Strong Workout Tracker Gym Log for Negative User Reviews

Good app, exorbitant priceLook, I'm all for monetising your app and picking a sustainable pricing model, But $280 for a full unlock (it used to be $10, remember) is beyond excessive. Sure, you could also pay $40/yr but I can buy a lot of pens and paper for that much, and spreadsheet software is a lot cheaper than this..Version: 4.21

One starAdded the app to my phone paid for the lifetime upgrade and on integration to a new phone all items were deleted and asked me to again upgrade to pro Don’t waste your money.Version: 5.15.23

Too exspensiveIf anything you should be charging money to give workout plans. I’m just trying to log in my workout and I need to upgrade in order to track my stats? Not the best..Version: 5.13.1

Same bugs foreverI’ve had this app for a while now, logging over 600 workouts. Frankly I can’t stand paying money for an app that has had the same bugs for so long. I had to delete the app and redownload it because it kept crashing. Apple Watch sync is atrocious too..Version: 5.15.18

Good but not perfectI’ve been using Strong premium for quite some time now and I need to say I’m pretty satisfied with it’s features. However, I wish the app had an iPad or desktop companion app (to work more comfortably on updating routines and seeing the stats) and some more video tutorials on how some of it’s features are meant to be used. Really hope the developers keep improving it because, if this was the case, I would definitely go for the lifetime one off purchase. Edit: after having subscribed to Strong premium for more than 6 months I had to move to another app (Hevy) due to the appalling customer service. After a bug report, I was told that the specific bug wouldn’t have been addressed nor considered because the team was focussing on a complete redesign of the app. When I highlighted how this meant that I was effectively paying a premium price for an “unsupported” app, I was told to “stop paying premium if the app didn’t satisfy my needs”. Not a nice way to treat loyal paying customers..Version: 5.15.15

Brilliant for all levelsAbsolutely brilliant app, as a newish gym goer this really helps me track all of my PB’s and previous sets and love how the pro version allows you to track using graphs. My only issue is that for the last month I have been using the free version (despite my pro version renewing in August next year) and the app won’t let me contact support or restore my purchase. Feels like a waste of £30 (which is well worth it in my opinion if I was actually able to use the pro version!) Would absolutely recommend using this app otherwise, I have yet to find a better version..Version: 5.15.18

Yet another poorly designed appThere are SO many apps out there trying to outsmart and out feature one another that they all disregard basic functionality. All I need is some thing slightly better than excel for logging my custom routines, this app still isn’t that. After spending all my time adding my custom exercises to my custom routine. I realized I missed an exercise I needed to simply add to my first superset of exercises. Nope sorry, despite all of the tech and functionality provided in today’s smart phone world, editing/arranging the order of my exercises in the routine I just made isn’t a feature they offer on this app (not that I can see anyway), is have to remake a whole new custom routine. I also selected the wrong category for an exercise I made and there was no way to change or delete that. Basically as long as you never make an input mistake, get everything right your first go, or just need pre packaged exercise/routines this may work out for you. Otherwise simply using excel provides more.Version: 4.22

So much greed for so little appBE WARNED: this app used to cost around $10 lifetime, but then the devs added a couple features and slapped the ridiculous price tag of $139 on it. AND made it a subscription app for $40/y! WHY does a LOG APP need a subscription!? Shameful display of greed! Forget this, here are some apps with the same basic functionalities for a fraction of the price and NO SUBSCRIPTION: HeavySet, Strongly and GymBook..Version: 5.13.1

Only one way to use itThis is a good app with an excellent variety of exercises in the library. It would be ideal if exercise could also be logged after-the-fact, rather than only being able to log exercises in real-time. This would especially useful when someone is working with a trainer and not setting their own workout plan/don’t have time to also be on the phone during the work out..Version: 5.14.1

Old version was betterNo way to turn off annoying pop ups and sounds..Version: 5.12.3

Good to build workouts but flawedGreat for putting in your existing workouts and if you’re familiar with building workouts and wanting to track them. A very frustrating thing is that a specific exercise that might be across different workout routines takes the same information (I.e if you mark it as a superset with lighter weights and more reps / less rest time, would also be translated to a different workout which might be a heavier set, longer rest period. So you find yourself editing workouts whilst doing them which is quite frustrating when you’re trying to be efficient. Would be great if this feature could be fixed..Version: 5.15.18

RolandI just purchased this app and I’ve used it for the first time in my workout this morning. The first major flaw that I see is that it will not calculate the calories you burn during the workout session logged. It also does not keep track of the total time you have worked out. It does offer you the opportunity to set rest periods in between sets but does not keep track of your total workout session time. It also does not appear to allow you to enter a custom exercise or movement. I have been using Fitness Buddy for 9 months and dont like it well enough to buy the subscription but what it does do is track your session time and calculate calories burned. The calories burned number then populates the apple health app as well as “My Fitness Pal” where I log my calorie intake and research foods. What I do like so far is the the data entry interface. I find it very intuitive well thought out, easy to log sets, weight and reps. It is color coordinated making things easier to see or identify. I also like that this app syncs with my apple watch really nicely. I also like that this app doesn't force you into a bunch of stuff you dont need or want. So far I wont start the subscription unless they add these features that are important to me. While I dont like Fitness Buddy it does do the minimum most that I need for it to do. Update: I found the workout timer. Cant find how to pause it if needed. Still unable to find a calorie consumption calculator..Version: 5.10.3

Workout log app for 139?I would like to see the logic behind this ridiculous subscription price tag. The app is good but it’s not worth that much maybe 5 dollars tops for permanent purchase.Version: 5.15.15

Not regularly updated and spotty connectivity between watch and phoneUpdate: Been using the app with the premium subscription for over a year. Compared to the competition its just not as well supported and reliable. Having constant problems with iphone to watch connectivity, and the app isn’t getting any better with any new features like the competition. Its was a good app, but now… theres better alternatives, that are still being improved constantly. Sorry Strong, but without continual support, this is getting uninstalled. Initial review: Takes alittle time to become accustomed to the UI and features. Once you’ve got the hang of it you literally blast through setting it up, doesn't take any time away from actually working out which was a concern with any fitness app. If you haven't had a reason to buy an apple watch, you have one now! I try and maintain a certain heart rate in workouts to build cardio/burn fat. Using the rest times and heart rate display in app on the watch is essential for this cant live without it now!.Version: 5.15.18

WasteDon’t even bother. they only let you store 3 free templates before they charge you A SUBSCRIPTION fee to have more. You’re better off using your notes app or pen and paper like before..Version: 5.15.23

Apple Watch app needs more workThe app on the iPhone itself is brilliant and I would rate that 5 stars. But the issue I find is with the Apple Watch version. As we move over to newer and easier ways of doing things I would expect the Watch app to have more polish and utility. But unfortunately it is a poor copy of the phone variant. It lists your pre programmed workouts and that is it! It is also hard to add on the fly a new set to your exercise and there is very little to change options. Other exercise apps seem to have more thought and effort with support for the Apple Watch. As time goes on and more and more people buy an Apple Watch I hope that the devs give more support and love for it..Version: 4.22

GreedyYour an app. Never in a million years would I pay you guys monthly or outright for 135$. Your app is very nice but I deleted it because I enjoy another app just as much for 5 dollars. You guys are going to loose out on customers with your greedy costs..Version: 5.4

Great App - Shouldn’t have a free versionTLDR: The app is great, the subscription model is not so. I love the app, the UI is well designed, the list of exercises is extensive and making routines is easy. Where the app falls short is the ability to only make 3 workouts whilst most people go to the gym at a minimum 4 times a week and to get more you have to pay… oh wow another subscription model I’m so shocked (not). To use this app the way it was designed you pretty much have to pay for a subscription which makes me come to the conclusion that this app should be a single purchase rather than a free app as being free draws people in then forces them to pay a fee monthly if they want to use the app the way it was designed. Horrible business model for consumers but amazing for developers and yes I know this is the way the world is heading..Version: 5.15.18

Great app, crazy priceLove the simplistic, intuitive ui. Obviously a lot of thought and care has gone into its creation. Was keen to upgrade to pro expecting a standard data/organisation management app price(in my experience is closer to a $15 mark). I can’t see any justification for this to be a subscription based app, or an over $100 buy out. Why is the health and exercise industries such a rip off! Wish I could justify using your creation..Version: 5.10.6

Mostly goodReally good for tracking lifts but it sucks if you have machines that are in Kg and Lbs because if you switch the weight measurement for one exercise it changes all of your previous workouts to that… for example I did face pulls at 42.5kg my last lift then today I went to do face pulls on a machine with lbs and I changed it to 92.5lbs and then looked at my history to see what my previous weight was in my last workout and it said I did 92.5kg face pulls when I definitely didn’t do that. This needs to be fixed because for those of us serious about tracking our progress this is a huge problem in the app and it makes my review go from a 5 star to a 2 star..Version: 5.15.15

How is this a subscription service? This is a great app, but I can’t even begin to understand why the developer thinks it appropriate to require users to pay a monthly subscription for it. All I want is the capability to log my workouts. I would pay for that, as a one-time payment, but forcing users to get a subscription is an insulting money-grab in my view. A pity..Version: 4.22

Duplicated workouts in apple or nothingIt’s been a week and this app just cannot sync with Apple health. On top of that. When you ask strong to sync the workouts they duplicate EVERYTHING. It’s embarrassing to call this an app. Synchronize should be a basic feature. Maybe strong is saving money from having to do development. But I cannot see to pay off premium for this app if basics cannot be figured out.Version: 5.15.18

Way Less ReliableUsed to love this app but it is way less reliable than it used to be. It deletes my notes every time I start a new workout. It crashes several times each workout. On the watch, the ‘Skip’ button for the rest timer no longer appears so I have to get the phone out. This is particularly annoying at the end of the workout where I have to wait 2 minutes just to end my workout (it is not recommended to do it from the phone). Sometimes the rest timer fluctuates up and down instead of showing accurately how long left. I hope it can be fixed to make it good again..Version: 5.15.18

$140 for full version, are you kidding me??If this app was $5-$10 I would have considered buying it but this app has gone the way of subscription which doesn't make any sense for this kind of app. If you want to just but it its $140. These options are just greedy, I’d rather use ios notepad to keep track of my workout!.Version: 5.15.4

Great when workouts actually show up or sync to Apple WatchI love the Strong app when it works properly to keep track of all my workouts but the problem is the app is very inconsistent with keeping record of workouts even after I click finish (either on my watch or within the app) and the app doesn’t consistently sync to my Apple watch. Today I did an 1 hour and 45 minute workout but Strong doesn’t show I completed this workout so I have no record of what I actually completed today (not great for tracking purposes or time since I took the time to enter all my workouts while at the gym :/) The app was on the entire time and also my Apple activity app shows I completed the workout but didn’t sync any of the stats, not the minutes, heart rate or the calories; so clearly there is a big disconnect since the Strong app isn’t even showing I did the workout yet my Apple activity app is, I would assume at least the Strong app would be accurate. Well, I’m disappointed in the quality of this app since I bought it to sync to my Apple watch and the activity app since my workouts were receding just fine when I just used the activity app with Apple, guess I’m going back and finding a new workout app and just wasted money..Version: 5.12.2

Only good for weights and lacking editsI was hoping this would incorporate stretches as well as I am in recovery. It doesn’t but it allows you to create your own exercises so I do that. I can’t add images to exercises even when the built in exercises have images. The most disappointing feature for me is the time keeping. I don’t use my phone all the way through a workout. I’m training. I input my exercises at the end. That means the time to complete workout is always wrong. And I can’t edit the time. There are better apps but this connects to apple health and that is why I use it..Version: 5.15.6

Apple Watch App BrokenSince the last update for iOS 13 optimization, it seems like the Apple Watch companion app is broken (crashes upon launch of a workout routine). Tried resetting, still no luck. I love this app otherwise, so please fix the companion Apple Watch app!.Version: 5.11

Great but only on airplane modeThis app is great for tracking your lifting. I really love it. The negative is that it only works when I haven’t got any signal. When I go to the gym I have to turn off WiFi and put my phone on airplane mode or the app just crashes out. I recently changed my phone and because I can’t connect to the internet whilst this app is open I couldn’t sync all of my previous workouts from my old phone and all of the data it had collected. I did send an email to enquire about this a couple of months ago but I’m still yet to get a response. If it wasn’t for this issue I would be giving it 5 stars as I find it’s the best app that I’ve come across for tracking my workouts..Version: 5.10.6

Good before IOS 17Since the update, the app is freezing when I try to view a chart for an exercise. Sometimes the rest timer is fullscreen sometimes not. This app used to be great and reliable but I’m now worried I might need to look for an alternative, especially for that price….Version: 5.15.21

Crashes on Apple WatchWorks well with the iPhone but app opens for a couple seconds and then immediately crashes on the Apple Watch..Version: 5.13.1

Decent workout app but too expensiveThis app is pretty solid and I’ve used it for a few years. When I find an app useful, I love buying it to support the creators, however the pricing model for this app is far too expensive for what I need it to do. It basically operates on a subscription at a price comparable to a Netflix subscription, which is something that bothers me about modern app pricing. Thankfully, the developers also included a single payment option, but I was shocked to see it costs a whopping $140. That is almost as expensive as buying Windows 11 home which is a full featured operating system. For comparison, most apps with the single payment option are around 10-20 bucks, including apps packed with impressive features like GoodNotes. Ultimately, this prompted me to switch to other workout apps that meet my requirements for a more affordable price..Version: 5.15.18

F*** youDidn’t give me any of the PRO benefits and showed that I wasn’t paying for it but continued charging me for the PRO subscription without my knowledge. F*** you.Version: 5.15.19

Latest update bad!Been using Strong for over a year now. Love it. However this new major update (5.0 I think) is so not great. To its credit, the home screen is better, I like how you can more easily see which exercises are in the pre saved routines. HOWEVER, the working routine is soooo unclear. For example: - where’s the exercise reorder tool gone? - how do I hide sticky notes?! Just cos I put notes there to remind me if stuff doesn’t mean I want them hovering there, cluttering up the screen - why does it look so childish?! Aside from the rounded corners on every box making it look like a pre-school app (I’m a sweaty guy throwing iron around!) it also puts a whole load of white space between every input box making the interface look soooo busy - also, possibly a corollary if the rounded corners, but why are the input fields sooo narrow? Feel like I have a much tighter margin to select the field I want Disappointed long term user here. Will keep using it but hope this review doesn’t fall on deaf ears. Take away note: Get rid of the kiddiness! (Even the app icon looks to have been simplified (read kiddified). You’ve taken the ideal of intuitive design and run with it all the way into preschool..Version: 5.0.1

Where’d my review go?Weird that I wrote a review earlier but it disappeared. Why is my workout come up like a temporary window? As if I’m changing settings or something. I have some exercises that I accidentally made with weights but they are just body weight exercises. I cannot change that fact unless I create a NEW exercise. This is stupid. I dont want to create a new exercise because of my history of that exercise. Also another thing I noticed, on those exercises with weights, but when I don’t put in weights but I put in the reps and click next, it doesn’t turn green and start my timer without me going back and put 0 as my weight. I prefer the old layout. It was much cleaner. Now I’m using a child’s toy. Might as well take out my crayons and colouring book and colour by number while in the gym. Imagine you just repped a huge 350lbs Squats. Then you take out this child’s toy to input your workout. Really....? I told my friend to get this app, then they said they couldn’t use it because it only has 10 workouts a month. I do that many before breakfast. Then to subscribe is $7 a month. Seriously?! When I bought it, it was a one time purchase. Everyone is using monthly payments, try standing out by doing something different. I’ll give you this advice for free..Version: 5.0.2

Apple watch appAm I the ONLY person that the Apple Watch app will NOT sync workouts or send workouts to the app? I’ve reinstalled and updated my apps EVERY TIME they update and it STILL DOES NOT WORK Their customer service is 5 stars but this review is for the Apple watch app. I’ve been using strong since it’s inception, the very beginning, and I bought the Apple Watch SOLELY so i could ditch my phone during my lifting sessions. The problem is, the workouts DONT sync back to the app. I’ve done everything they suggested, uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, unpaired and NOTHING works. The Apple health app has the workouts logged so I know the information is being sent to the phone and something is wrong with the app. Every other app I have on my watch is able to sync information to their mobile counterparts instantly and reliably. This is The ONLY app that will not. After communicating with customer service they could only come up with that they don’t have the problem so they can’t solve it. As someone who uses this app 26/30 days a month, I wish there was a better solution than that..Version: 5.5.1

Calorie CounterYour app is AMAZiNG but pls improve the colorín counting feature connected to Apple health it’s broken and inaccurate there’s no way I only burned 40 calories in a 1 hour workout (18 sets and 1 mile of running).Version: 5.15.18

Was once good - now absolute rubbishThis app is great - well was great. until they decided to gouge the cost of unlocking anything. my fault for not paying a small fee to unlock pro ages ago? maybe but $150 to pay for pro now - you guys are stupid. off to look for another app now that isn’t unrealistically expensive. well done.Version: 4.27.3

Deleted in favour of WorkoutHi. Like your app a lot but you can only add 3 workouts so no good for my push/pull 4 day split. WORKOUT. The app allows as many workouts as I want to add so I’ve switched to that one instead..Version: 4.27.3

Let me pause workoutsAllow me to pause my workouts, make it so i dont have to pay to make more than 3 templates.Version: 5.15.23

Let’s remove the gender biasLove the extensive list of exercises, detailed instructions and ability to put together your own work outs. However, I’m really disappointed in the gender bias in the illustrations. All weight-based exercises are depicted with a male character and all resistance-based with a female. Using a more diverse set of illustrations would be a step towards improving women’s engagement in the sport and help remove some of the limiting expectations that both men and women may have when it comes to gym-time. Would love to see this change in the app Strong Team!.Version: 5.11.10

Not sureWidgets aren’t working anymore. Randomly my babel squat and a bunch of other progression widgets stopped working. They just don’t register my training anymore. Tried removing and adding again. Same thing. If I’m paying a subscription I like my app to work. Doubting renewal..Version: 5.15.23

Greedy app creators again! This was a great app until yet again the greedy app makers decided that they want to charge monthly and yearly fees that are ridiculously high. In reality you can log your gym records in a five dollar notepad. The beauty of this app was that it made things convenient and simple. But like many creators these days they think it’s OK to screw their clients with upgrade features that actually should be standard. Shame on them. I just deleted the app that I’ve been using for a couple months and was happy to have given them a five star. There’s other apps that you can use that are far better and for right now are not charging. Who in their right mind would pay $199 for an iPhone app that simply logs their workouts and measurements?! Certainly not me and hope you won’t waste your money on this app made by greedy developers. If enough of us keep calling developers on this and deleting their expensive apps that take little continued develop perhaps the creators will get the idea and stop being so greedy with high ticket prices. Save your money on this one friends!.Version: 4.22

Charged me long before trial before was overUpon installation it offered a free trial period, which I accepted. Then THE VERY NEXT DAY I was charged full price for a year membership. And apple would not refund 🤬🤬.Version: 5.15.23
