Un-smart thermostatThis is one of the stupidest ideas ever. Unless you are always moving around in front of your thermostat, it can’t learn when you’re at home so you have to turn off the auto adjust. Then, even with all the smart settings off and just setting a schedule, often it will just leave the heater on even when scheduled to be off or off when scheduled to be on. Save yourself the trouble and just get a cheap ‘dumb’ thermostat from eBay..Version: 5.69.0.3

Not impressedI just want it to be the temperature I want it to be. I don’t care about the energy. There are way too many energy features. Even when I think I have it turned off. It’s now 2am and it’s still hotter than I want in my house. The fact I’m up writing this review should tell you something..Version: 5.53.0

Almost uselessAlerts come through however it won’t play the 5 seconds of footage and just shows the buffering circle. This also happens when trying to view the cameras live feed which means you can’t see or communicate with whoever is in the room even though the screen alerts the room occupants the feed is being viewed. This frustrated my children when they think I’m viewing the feed and they’re trying to pull face at me but it’s worse when they’re arguing because I can’t figure out who I should yell at this time, so annoying especially since they’ve removed stealth watching..Version: 5.75.0

Disappointed. Wouldn’t recommendAfter spending a lot of money on nest cameras and the high quality that they are it is majorly disappointing that the feed to the camera is delayed by about 2-3 seconds on 1gb speed internet. Also the most concerning thing the push notification of spotting a person is delayed by at least 30 seconds to a minute. In the worst case situation this would make a huge difference. Nest. Sort it out please, your customers who brought your products deserve it..Version: 5.20.1

Constant Temperature SettingWhy can’t I set my Nest to a constant temperature and it just STAY THERE?! I don’t want to have to set up a schedule. I just want it to stay at the temperature I set it to and forget it! Here I am sitting in my home office, and all of a sudden I feel it getting really hot. I look at my app and it’s 77° in the house and the Nest thinks I’m “away”, when in actuality I just haven’t walked past the thermostat in a while so that it knows I’m here. Our house is 4,700 sq ft, and we just have the one unit, so hours can go by before I’ll walk anywhere close to the Nest device! Another example: We set it to 72° the other day when it was hot outside and left the house for several hours. We come home and it’s almost 80° in the house, again because it “thinks” we’re away and shuts itself off! It was almost 3 hours before it felt cool in the house again. NOT gonna work for me… If I set my thermostat at a desired temp and I come home and it’s not that temp, that device is malfunctioning. And no - it’s NOT the AC unit. It’s all the Nest and it’s “smartness”. If someone can’t tell me how to set it at a constant temperature and it keep maintaining that temperature indefinitely until I tell it to do something else, I’m ripping it out of the wall and back to the store it goes for a refund..Version: 5.70.0

Unable to playback most videosMy cameras detect motion every hour or so for something as small as a bird passing through the gardens. Worst part of all is the app is laggy and rarely allows me to playback any of the recorded videos. For $9 a month they can forget about it until they fix these problems..Version: 5.60.0

Emperors new clothesNest is a terrible ap that is worse than the manual programmers it replaces. It relies on connectivity to your WiFi so like any connected device you can communicate only if both of your devices are online. Any drop off in wifi, change of router, phone batteries out etc means it’s not working or passwords have to be reset. The actual ap on your phone has a long complicated menu most of which you will never use. Doing something simple like turning up the heat or turning off to go away on holiday requires a detailed knowledge of the ap. First item on the menu ?’ Set up two factor authentication’, then ‘Connect to a Google account’. Surely the first time should be “Change temperature in my house”? Something is wrong with a device that requires two factor authentication to turn of the heating in your own house! The only advantage is you can change the heat remotely, but how often would you need to do that? Obviously all houses will now migrate to connected devices and we won’t really question why it’s just the latest technology , but the standard manual programmers were so much better. You could easily visually see how to turn on and off the heating, change temperature and set times. Nest is the emperors new ap..Version: 5.73.0

Expensive brickGoogle nest outdoor cam iq….I’m on my 5th replacement and less than two years in, it’s died…yet again. Apparently, as it’s a replacement, it’s not covered by the warranty. Google has wriggled out, yet again. They probably need the money more than I do! I’m paying for nest ‘protect’, which is a complete joke as it categorises detected people as ‘movement ‘ and not human beings who are intruding on private property….leaving me and mine extremely vulnerable. I also have the Google nest thermostat and smoke alarms fitted in my property, I wonder what Google’s response will be when they fail and my house burns down? I’ve bought 3 iegeek cameras for less than half of what I paid for this rubbish and they knock it into a cocked hat. My advice? Don’t be fooled by the slick marketing , not on something that is as important as this, these devices are supposed to protect you and your families’ well being. Buy from anyone but Google nest. The integrity and strength of a proper company is evident when problems arise….Google shirks their responsibilities and focuses on profit before customer safety. If I could give zero stars, I would..Version: 5.70.0

JunkWaste of money, since merger with google it changes temperature when it feels like or just turns your AC or heat off, constantly signing in wanting to share my data,.Version: 5.65.0

Battery low warning yet new batteriesSame issue as everyone else - unit is a few years old and all of a sudden, batteries only lasting weeks, not years. Clearly a design issue. Really disappointing..Version: 5.52.0

DisappointingI keep getting notifications for anything, I MEAN ANYTHING, OUTSIDE of the zone I created which is just infuriating. This is for two outdoor nest cameras that have been installed, what’s the point in creating zones and then switching off notifications for anything outside of these zones if they just send you notifications anyway. I can’t get the camera to not cover the footpath which catches EVERY person walking past. Secondly my real gripe with the app, considering we pay for nest aware and the cameras etc are not cheap…is that whether I am looking at past footage or just trying to look at the app whether on 4G or Wi-Fi in the house I get the message “there was a problem while connecting to the nest service. Try again in a few minutes.” This happens almost every all open, I’ve checked and rechecked my internet multiple times in or out the house etc however this is clearly a nest issue. Considering it’s a paid service this is below satisfactory for something that I rely on for safety. If someone was breaking into my house and I was watching it live whilst calling the emergency services can I trust that i won’t constantly get this message at the most crucial time? Not at all. SORT IT OUT PLEASE we are not living in times when home security a new thing..Version: 5.68.1

Not horrible, not amazing, super annoyingThis is more of a review for the nest device itself, the app being a secondary factor. It does seem to work/run more smoothly and consistently then the ecobee I previously had but only marginally. When it’s actually functioning, my biggest complaint is that it won’t allow you to set a temperature. It autocorrects to w/e temperature it ‘thinks’ it should be. When the device is fully charged it works fine enough but it only stays charged for a few hours at most and inevitably disconnects from wifi and the app due to low battery. This is when the thermostat stops responding and decides to maintain a 74 degree temperature no matter how many times I readjust it. Then I have to pull it off the wall and plug it in until it’s charged enough to work again which can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour and only works half the time. Some times I have to reset the device in addition to charging it before it will work. This is a daily occurrence. Not only is it frustrating and annoying but my pet St Bernard really doesn’t appreciate it. 74 is about 15 degrees too hot for him and it’s not so great for me either..Version: 5.68.0

Review of Nest after 4 yearsI started using Nest in 2019. I purchased 8 cameras, 4 of which are currently working. When the cameras work, they produce good quality pictures. I contacted the Nest customer service to report warranty claims since 4 of my cameras quit working during the warranty period. The Nest customer service was a nightmare to connect with and to work with. It is difficult reaching a live human and when I did I was transferred multiple times to different departments to be put on hold and each time I would have to provide all of my information and claim data again to a different agent who would then put me on hold for several minutes and then come back to tell me that I needed to be transferred to yet another department. The experience was nothing less than than a customer service sketch that you would see on Saturday Night Live. I never did get all of my cameras replaced although I was told they would be replaced. I am a veteran and one of then agents did thank me for my service. Truth be know I just wanted my cameras replaced according to the warranty, but that didn’t happen. I have already begun using another system since my expensive experience with Nest has been so disappointing. Unfortunately I cannot recommend Nest and would advise looking at other security systems..Version: 5.71.0

Smoke Alarm can’t share with FamilyNest app says you can’t add a family member because of Google Home. This is a “Critical Safety” addition to my home. Crippling the Nest app to force me to go to Google Home just so I can add a family member to monitor the safety of my home is absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn’t have bought it if I have to work between two ecosystems to get it to work with my family. No more Nest products for me..Version: 5.60.0

CostNone of the packaging or advertising says you have to PAY for the recorded video. It’s free for the first month but then they cut you off. Now I’m stuck with 4 camera’s that only take a snap shot and hold it for 4 hours. RIP OFF!!!!.Version: 5.66.0

Battery Life is TerribleFirst the quality is not that great and the rechargeable model doesn’t hold a charge for more than a few days in a high traffic area like an entry way. I’ve used several cameras in that spot to see if it was the unit but it must draw down the battery every time someone walks by it. If it’s in an area that has zero traffic you’ll get a decent amount of time on the charge. The night vision quality stinks and in order to see a video past 4 hours old you’ll need to pay for a monthly service agreement with a fee. If I was to start from scratch I would look at the Wyze product that allows a SD card for storage if you don’t want to pay any fees, but you won’t have the wireless. I also have the wired version from google and those are no better other than they don’t need a charge. I’m still only using them because I’ve spent about $1,000 on them and I can’t find myself to just throw them away. I’m sure google is aware and like all the big companies they could care less with the billions they make. But if you don’t mind charging the camera every few days this is probably a decent solution for some applications out there, just not the home or business..Version: 5.70.0

Horrible appI wish I’d known how bad it was before I spent $1,000 on Nest cameras. Super disappointed. Can’t even set up activity zones - crashes constantly.Version: 5.72.0

SlowI’ve had a google doorbell for 6 months and now a nest smart thermostat. My app has become really slow and cannot display a full video any more without freezing, same happens when I scroll through the history of videos. There is a delay when someone rings it comes to the doorbell and it’s practically impossible to speak to delivery people when I’m away, due to a frozen app. (Edit: I have now removed the second zone and this has helped, which means I cannot have more than 1 activity zone). The thermostat has been a headache, it doesn’t show the currently auto schedule/smart learning is off, home/away assist off, true radiant is off and it still changes the temperature correct temperature, constantly and various times during the day... When I set it up to reach 23 it stops when it reaches 21. I certainly cannot recommend Nest..Version: 5.66.0

Unable to change wifi network connection easily.Unable to change wifi network connection information easy. Have to remove and reconnect its very painful. It’s 2023 you would have thought they would have fixed this issue by now..Version: 5.70.0

No sensible notification deletionIf you have a Nest Protect smoke alarm, you cannot turn off its notifications. If you have a power outage, each Protect device sends a notification. If you have multiple Protect devices and have a series of power fluctuations, you can easily rack up a hundred or more notifications. And each one has to be deleted by swiping it sideways. Do you know how much pain that causes? I do, I’ve just had to delete 100 notifications! This issue has been raised previously, multiple times, but they can’t be bothered to fix it. I doubt they even have the grace to feel embarrassed, which they should!.Version: 5.75.0

Disappointing. Our subscription ended, suddenly, and without warning. Despite being on the phone for over an hour and a half with untrained offshore customer service, all working from home, they couldn’t reinstate us. You get put on hold and then hung up on by people who can’t do the job. Also the app often sports a never ending time wheel constantly having to reboot the app. So, obviously, we have invested in a ring camera which works approximately 200% better. We get 2.5 days more for 2GBP per month less and it covers multiple devices which work better. At the moment you are not providing any service at all because the app constantly asks you to sign in with Google and when you do it says, “something went wrong “and ask you to do it all again forever . If you don’t maintain your software/ service and also you don’t provide knowledgeable, helpful, Customer Service then obviously you’re going to lose business to those who do. Inconvenienced, annoyed, no longer paying and tired of trying it to to spend. I give this information in the hope that it may be of help when choosing between Google nest and Ring because we wish we had gone to ring a long time ago. It works, it’s better value, and there is good effective customer service. Sincerely..Version: 5.70.0

Nest Aware is UselessI purchased a Nest outdoor camera and signed up as a paid subscriber for Nest Aware after my neighbor’s car was hit by a drunk driver a few years ago. Since then Nest has cancelled my Nest Aware service without notification multiple times, and each time they do I have to go through the entire onboarding process of entering my exact same credit card info, and setting up security zones and preferences. The repeated need to re-onboard with Nest Aware after they cancel my service without notice is very annoying. Annoying to the point where I end up going weeks without service. This has gotten worse recently and is starting to impact the safety of my family. In May, during a period in which Nest had cancelled my Nest Aware service we had someone rifle through our cars overnight while they were sitting in our driveway. So the next day I re-onboarded with Nest Aware, re-entered the exact same payment information, and setup security zones and preferences. Well Nest only gave me a trial subscription of Nest Aware, which ended very recently. And once again last night, during a period in which my Nest Aware service had been cancelled by Nest we had someone go through our cars and yet again I have no footage of it. Nest’s thermostat is great, but their Nest Aware service is useless and gives me no peace of mind whatsoever. I’ll be switching to Ring once we move to our new house..Version: 5.71.0

Consistently worse every time I use itThe nest app used to be great and worked seamlessly. Somehow Nest consistently releases bugs and the app gets worse every time I use it. At this point scrubbing through video streams is completely unusable. It glitches and jumps and freezes so much while trying to scrub that it becomes so irritating that I just give up. What’s strange is that it used to work just fine, some how they totally messed it up. Not only that but they actually accidentally removed the button to be able to switch between events and the ability to scrub through the video feed. The button was still there just didn’t have an icon so you could still activate it for a while. Overall I’ve become so consistently disappointed with nest and their app that I’m slowly getting rid of all of my nest equipment. For the record, I have four nest cameras, a doorbell, thermostat, the security system and two smoke detectors. I also pay for the subscription monthly. I also understand it might be hard having employees work from home and that updates might be tough but honestly it’s almost as if there is no quality assurance whatsoever. I work in software engineering and if I released the garbage that nest releases I might get away with it once but on a consistent basis, like nest, I would totally be fired..Version: 5.59.0

Long term userI have had Nest products for about 8 year in my 2 homes. I have enjoyed being able to monitor and manage the temperatures at each home at any time. I have not found the Protect product as useful. I went all in a brought 5 Protects and found them to be supper expensive and annoying to maintain. After about 6-8 years Nest will send you a notice that you Protect will no longer work and you have to replace it with a new. The other annoyance it takes allot of batteries 6-8 that don’t last that long. It test it self once a month which is annoying and create a lot of unnecessary messages and disruption. Given the cost of batteries and the device and frequent messages I have decide not to replace theProtect as they obsolete. I will just replace them with stand alone 10 year maintenance free devices and save a fair amount of money and aggravation. When I started with nest they were just Nest but now that Google owns them ever time I sign it to maintain my device Google wants me to switch over to my Google account to manage them. I use a lot of Google products but at some point I want to restrict how much info they have on me so I keep saying no I don’t want to switch to Google. It is very annoying..Version: 5.60.0

After investing a lot, it’s still very slowThe hardware is very good, well made and high quality. The software however is a big let down. It’s messy, buggy, slow and has a legacy issue with the switchover the Google. There have been no observable improvements to the software for years. I have a nest cam outdoor, two thermostats and a doorbell. Notifications are often slow, pinging different devices (partners iPhone, iPad, my phone) in a seemingly uncontrollable order with a few seconds delay. The video is also buggy, often freezing when viewing, closing or being incredibly slow. The blue spinning ring is something I see more than the actual video itself. The thermostatic controls are ok, reliable and clear. No problems with that at all. It would be nice for Google to commit to moving to Google Home and including notifications and settings control of the cameras, but we have this weird halfway house at the moment and I’m not sure if it will ever be sorted. I’d consider an alternative brand until this is all resolved..Version: 5.72.0

DisappointedI bought the Nest Hello Doorbell after reading lot of good reviews online. After installing and using, I noticed and realised that there is no difference in notification when someone rings the doorbell. It would be really nice if they introduced a call facility when someone ring the doorbell rather then a push notification like all other notifications. It’s hard to see what happened and you can easily miss someone at the door when you are outside. It makes the doorbell useless if you can’t answer the phone on time when you are outside. Another issue is that when you use announcement function with google devices. The doorbell ring is very short, it would be nice if you had option to extend the ring for longer time. Other than that, the app is very function but missing important features..Version: 5.60.0

Sadly not what it used to beWhen Nest was Nest all was good. Had a problem? They cared! Google Nest... no real support, they just don’t care. Products have issues, app crashes, they don’t care. They are playing the numbers game, enough people use their products and apps that they could not care less when a percentage of users experience major issues after spending lots of money with them. As a nest pro, “technically part of their outsourced sales force” I can honestly say...”Don’t waste your money” if the going gets tough you are on your own. The technical help is designed to grind you down until you loose the will to live. Every excuse is used to distract from the real issue... it just won’t work for you if you don’t comply to their perfect scenario set up. Buyer be ware, if it works it’s great, if it doesn’t then give up immediately, don’t even expect to be treated like a valued customer, it’s not going to happen. You can not speak to someone who hasn’t got a standard reply already prepared for them. Give up. Realise you are no one in the google important customer universe..Version: 5.60.0

Will not be buying a nest product again. This is my 3rd review on the same issue in nearly 12 months. This will not work on any of my 4 apple products, IPhone X and 3 iPads, 2 of which are running iOS 14 plus. Sure, I have a picture for 10 seconds then it crashes telling me to try again. I am very disappointed with this issue as it has not been fixed. Don’t advertise that it works with apple. It does work on my old Samsung S5 through the google play store app. Luckily I only purchased one nest camera 2 years ago. Read reviews before purchasing a product..Version: 5.57.0

Very buggyDoesn’t open every time. Video feed and sound is really unreliable even though I have really fast connection. So frustrated to have expensive cameras and subscription just it not to work properly. I can get better results with way cheaper cameras. Embarrassing from mega corporation like google..Version: 5.67.0

Terrible AppWork fine until I migrated with google app nothing works on any application. I redid the app and thermostat not working cannot control heat or air. Thanks google.Version: 5.66.0

Generally GoodCamera quality and usability good, but often has glitches and is freezes when trying to use the back/forward 15 seconds function, the zoning is also pretty hopeless, you get notifications for activity in the zones but it saves hundreds of useless clips per day for activity outside the zones that are totally unwanted. Thermostat is also good in terms of functionality (although doesn’t have the features of Hive and is far more expensive) but main bugbear is that it can’t be locked for different users, so I want my kids to have camera access but not be able to play with the heating settings, why does everyone with access have to be a ‘manager’ the function to restrict user rights should be easy to develop and is a major miss..Version: 5.69.1.1

Nice, but…… can’t get google nest camera to work with video calling to another google nest. Confusing as to how to fix it. Is is the old Google Duo app SW inside the Google home app or the Nest App itself, or other . Even the SW and HW names makes things confusing..Version: 5.70.0

TerribleI have google Home and want to use the Nest app. It’s forcing me to set up in Home (which I have already) then there’s no explanation as to how to migrate. Talk about making a simple thing difficult..Version: 5.70.0

Integration with Google has made things awfulWe use our nest cameras as baby monitors. We like the capability to check them anywhere with WiFi and knew there would be trade offs given that these weren’t designed to be baby monitors. They’ve always been a bit spotty and the nest service has been down in the middle of the night at less than ideal times. However, now that they’ve forced users to merge a google account with nest account, we have had nothing but problems. We leave the app up all night to monitor our kiddos and it hasn’t stayed active without crashing in WEEKS. I have to wake up multiple times each night to re open the app and check on our kids. This is absolutely unacceptable especially given that they’re designed to be security cameras. I expected the service to improve from our previous issues with the integration with google accounts but it has been nothing but downhill from there. I am seriously considering a different product because the app experience is so poor. Get it together google. You’re supposed to set the gold standard for app experiences. If you’re a user reading this it’s probably too late and you’ve already bought the equipment to go with the app but if I’ve caught you early enough, steer clear..Version: 5.42.0

Good, but has a mind of its ownNo matter what I do it controls itself. Turns itself up makes the house too hot. I turn it down two seconds later it’s back up again for controlling your thermostat from far but controls itself..Version: 5.76.1

Must migrate to Google to use the app!I’m a new user of the Nest Thermostats and like the equipment so far. My issues is with their remote services, in particular, their requirement to migrate my account to my gmail so I can use their smart services. In order to do that, Nest wants to have access to my google home names and the names and emails of my google home members. Why do they need this information? When I asked this question of Nest support, the employee didn’t have an answer. I refused to allow Nest access to my private and personal information and, in return, Nest denied me access to their smart services. In a nutshell, I now have a very expensive manual thermostat with no accessible smart features! I cannot use my thermostats remotely, and the sensors are completely useless because I can’t access them unless I migrate my account to google sign-in. There is one workaround: create a bogus gmail account and use that only for Nest app. So I did that, because let’s face it, I got a smart thermostat so I didn’t have to get out of bed at 3 am to adjust the thermostat! Worked fine for a day but now my account is offline and the Nest solution is to restart my router and disrupt all the other services and devices on my router so Nest can find my wifi signal again!.Version: 5.42.0

Not always reliableIt’s great when it works but it doesn’t always work. I often have to make several attempts to get into my home google nest. And then when I am at the camera view, it will kick me out. I trialed it and all of these glitches turned me off going ahead with a paid subscription. Definitely not worth paying for this subscription.Version: 5.72.0

Horrible from start to finishAs with just about all of my nest products I’m mortified at how horrible this app performs. I’m so invested with nest at this point I feel stuck after buying a massive bundle package a year or so ago. They’re app crashes constantly and takes forever to load anything. They’re notifications would rather focus on shadows and bugs then the mail man or cars in my driveway. Their previews never load and instead I get a blank screen. While using the app or in between opening the app I am constantly logged out as is my wife on her phone. The quality of my WiFi doesn’t seem to matter but cameras are co stay my offline. The smoke detectors are constantly giving false smoke detections giving me a heart attack. They’re support is horrible and says use the google home app. Well that apps worse as you can’t open the app and see your cameras. You have to click on every camera to see it and it loads just as slowly and horribly as the nest app. I’m about to just throw it all in the trash and drop a bunch of money on a better product. You’d think a massive company like google would be on top of their tech and have something as sought after as this preforming like the public would expect it to do. So yourself a favor and look into other security options..Version: 5.58.0

Does not work with Apple TVDysfunctional with Apple TV. Can’t even login..Version: 5.76.0

Struggle to useIt is a struggle to use, the system is smart system learning from habits etc but makes it harder to just choose when you want it on and completely off like a traditional system. The heating comes on in middle of night out of schedule - lot of fiddling around with settings to try and stop that from happening. Starting to get the hang of how to use it but it isn’t the easiest. I do like the way you can adjust this on the phone however sometimes when I change settings on the phone it doesn’t remember it and I have to redo often. Also i would like if the app knew the location of our home, because it has a safety temperature option meaning if the temperature goes low the heating comes on however the UK doesn’t get as cold as other places in the world. It also had a default feature of preheating for 5 hours which is an extremely long time - we keep getting too hot!.Version: 5.58.0

Nest does not doing what it is toldMy Nest thermostat seems to have ‘muscle memory’. Even though I change the schedule for heating, it has retained prior scheduling and heats the house when nobody is home. Real frustrating. It would be nice if you could mirror a schedule over an entire week rathe than copying and pasting each day. Also, a monthly schedule would be beneficial when on vacation or when guests use my property. Hopefully Nest will offer greater functionality in their app in the near future..Version: 5.69.0.3

Kitchen Smoke Alarm Requires Updated SettingsThis feedback is about NEST Protect. We are currently doing a kitchen extension and require a heat only alarm for the kitchen area. Currently Nest protect doesn’t have either a Heat Only alarm OR the option to disable smoke detection through the app on the current model. My question is for the developers of the Nest App. Is there a potential for the current Nest Protect model to be able to disable smoke detection if you allocate the Nest Protect to the Kitchen? Smoke is unavoidable in the kitchen (cooking burgers/sausages, etc.). What I won’t to avoid is the alarm going off and setting off the others in the rest of the house (particularly while our children are sleeping). What I’m proposing is that if you allocate a Nest Protect as “Kitchen” there is an option to disable Smoke Detection. Obviously if Smoke goes above levels determined by law the alarm should still sound, however any level of smoke that can be silenced should be able to be able to be disabled in the kitchen. I’d be happy if this is a function that you can turn on temporarily while cooking (i.e. a pre silence smoke function) or a function that you can have active at certain times of the day. If this cannot be an option it makes me wonder why I bought Nest Protects in the first place. And would have to look at alternative options in the future..Version: 5.66.0

Some great functionality but not perfectWe’ve had our nest for a couple of years now, and I love the convenience of being able to control the heat when sitting along a chair at or away from home, and ensure that we’re not wasting heat when we’re not home. The only thing that I struggle with, is the automated schedule is still a bit off. It seems to decide to come on at weird hours, and of seems to almost randomly update the schedule. All fixable manually, but this could do with some attention. Overall would still recommend..Version: 5.72.0

Can never get to the saved clips always a hassleHard to navigate.Version: 5.76.0

The scheduling section needs revisingIt’s so much work to keep on top of the changing temperatures throughout each season. I don’t want to have to constantly switch between Heat, Cool, and Heat-Cool modes. For the Heat-Cool mode, having a window of 3 degrees of accuracy on the temperature makes it so that when you want to cool the house to the upper limit during the day, at night time it will be too cold because the temperature drops to the lower temperature limit. So I have to raise it at night. Maybe we are temperature picky people but like all other thermostats I’ve had, I wish Nest would let me choose one temperature to either heat or cool to, and the Nest decides if it needs to heat or cool without needing my input. I don’t care if the AC system is heating or cooling, I just want one temperature selection. Last point, the the scheduling tab needs a complete redesign. Why are there no vertical and horizontal guidelines? I have to hold my finger down and hope I select the right temperature and time without shifting my finger too far one way. Also, placing a temperature change at midnight has issues. It won’t select exactly at midnight. That being said, I really appreciate the notification emails I get if something seems to be wrong with our AC system..Version: 5.68.1

Frequently Drops outI think Nest/ Google needs to decide which one they want to be. Some cameras are viewable in Google Home and some in Nest and sometimes all cameras are viewable in both apps. The Nest “help advice” to reboot all cameras and log out of the app and login again is just such a bad “ customer experience “. In 2023 this just isn’t an acceptable way of keeping products going. Nest was good until Google got involved and bought Nest. I’m ditching all my cameras for a more reliable system..Version: 5.73.0

Absolute garbageI use the app for my Nest camera and it’s absolute garbage. If I want to review footage from the previous night it’s nearly impossible. Endless loading time, boot up time, a serious lack of controls or scrubbing options. The camera works. The footage records. But you can’t view it!.Version: 5.68.0

FrustratingThe products themselves are excellent quality. But this app is a huge disappointment. It has such a high latency rate - you open the app and it takes 45 seconds to load up to the main menu. (It’s not my wifi or cellular connection) So let’s consider this: your doorbell rings. You open the app, wait 45 seconds, then navigate to the doorbell where you can access the microphone and begin talking. At that point, the interaction time has been about 55 seconds. Most people, after ringing a doorbell, won’t stay at the door that long, thus by the time I can finally get to the mic the person is gone and the feature is no longer useful. Additionally, it’s a pain to guard nest guard with the app. I’ll tap the shield and it will load for 30 seconds and then say it can’t connect. I do it again. Can’t connect. After 5 or 6 times it will FINALLY arm the system. A last complaint I have is that nest is no longer integrated with HomeKit. It was previously before the company was purchased by Google. I get that Google instead wants you to use the Google home system however, as an avid Apple user, it’s frustrating to have to use 2 systems. We chose Nest because the physical products are far beyond the competition but there are some serious rooms for improvement for this application. Reduce network calls on app launch, considering auditing latency for the app and see where the problem lies, and please integrate with HomeKit..Version: 5.57.0

Away settingHave tried multiple times to not have the app follow my phone. Goes into away mode constantly despite having dogs at home that require the heat or air that get shut off..Version: 5.71.0

Was a good product until Google took overI like the device and the app, by and large. I bought it well before Google bought out Nest, I would never buy one now. If Google weren’t trying to milk data out of it, it would be four or five stars. But since Google took over, it keeps trying to get me to move from the old Nest account to tying it instead to a Google account, which would open me to all kinds of privacy exposure I don’t want. And I can’t even access my Google account because it won’t let me use it any more without giving it my cell phone number. The claim that this is for “security” is ludicrous, I was a security researcher for a decade, and the only security effect is keeping people from making duplicate google accounts for spamming or other dubious purposes. Cell phone numbers have almost no value in authenticating people, since it’s easy to get a burner phone with virtually no ID certification. It does have some value for 2FA, but that’s not why Google is asking for it. So, when I have to replace the Nest, or if Google finally forces it to be tied to a Google account, it will be replaced by something that’s not a probable privacy nightmare..Version: 5.70.0

Seasonal savings disasterDo not activate seasonal savings as it ruins the whole idea of having the nest thermostat. I have the heating set, so the idea of the part of the world I live in is quite wet in winter and you need to have the heating on a little bit longer to actually dry the upstairs to make it more comfortable to sleep in and by having the seasonal savings reducing the temperature by half a degree, also means the heating won’t go on so much and will cause a less pleasant atmosphere in your home , I cannot understand why after having the thermostat for eight years this year they’ve decided that my schedule needs changing next time it flashes up I will be switching this feature off. I know energy is expensive but also comfort is also very important as well so half a degree for comfort is far is superior than half a degree in savings, because really it won’t save you that much anyway in the long run because the rooms at it will be a lot colder than they should’ve been.Version: 5.70.0

Needs hold feature and to be night shift worker friendlyDon’t get me wrong I love nest and nest products they are great. However, I have the Nest E and I wish that there was a temperature hold feature for this or something similar to that. I have attempted to troubleshoot this problem by clearing out The schedule and setting it two times but it always reverts back to Eco or the temperature goes up. I work nights which means I sleep during the day and since I live in a hot dry air and state waking up at 1300 hrs drenched in sweat because The thermostat and the app didn’t talk to each other showing my location and the thermostat were in the same place; the schedule that I set up wasn’t followed; or the fact that the thermostat did not detect any motion for an extended period of time. Not only is this a problem when I am sleeping on my work days as a nurse, but it’s also a problem on my off days when I just want to spend the morning in bed and after six or 7 AM it throws the temperature up to 86°. Google developers I know you can fix this and I hope you can even if it means downloading firmware to help and upgrading the app. I also know that these are changing times and more people are at home so even more now than ever the thermostat doesn’t know what the hell it’s doing because we are all home now. But you would really help an ER nurse out if you could truly get this fixed on the Nest E and other thermostat. Thanks.Version: 5.50.0

No, I didn’t forget my passwordHorrible! Every once in a while the app forces you to re-sign in. And then your password doesn’t work. And, no, I didn’t forget it because I have it written down. How is that possible? Bad app..Version: 5.67.0

Less than averageNest cameras are not worth the money! Ever since they merged with Google I get less than three hours of recordings to review, so hardly worth having them should something occur overnight or whilst at work. We use to have 7 days worth of records which was handy, but when we added additional (cordless / battery) cameras we had to change from the Nest app to Google Nest app. Now our cameras are across two apps 🤬🤬🤬, and a recordings reduced 🤬🤬🤬. Would never recommend Nest cameras to anyone, ever considering changing over to an alternative brand and throwing these in the rubbish..Version: 5.73.0

How big is right?Tied up with the big boys now, pay your subscription but try contacting anyone, nobody wants to know the little people. It says there a problem with my payment but the money has gone and the system part performs. Sold as a simple system but seldom seems that way. Now suggests it’s not sold in New Zealand. “Hello, I’ve bought three here, well, four but one failed” Subscriptions end with no reminders from Big Brother, so the service drops back until you figure out why it’s not working..Version: 5.41.0

Lots of function and control but hideously unreliableThe app functions are great but the app constantly crashes. Instead of buffering when internet connection isn’t great, the app drops out and you have to start all over. This is particularly frustrating when you’ve been cycling back through days worth of footage as you have to try and find the same moment again. It will often crash out within a couple of seconds multiple times until you give up. This is really not acceptable for an app where you have to pay to use but can’t use. This app would be fine if it was maintained properly using the money we pay every month for it! It seems to be neglected and the Google app that can also be used is just rubbish as you lose a heck of a lot of the functionality. Step up your game please google/nest!.Version: 5.69.1.1

No way these products rate above 2Just DONT. Get a NEST CAM. Simple problem. You have google home to bring things together. This app is designed to not do that and the products that require it sit outside of Google Home. Then if it a camera they require a subscription for it to be of any use. Get a Ring Cam, or Arlo, DO NOT use a Nest Cam. Just dont. Unless you only use the Nest app or a gmail only account. Like to pay extra. Nest and Home, once combined with an integrated storage plan and no limitation on the type of google account you have will be great. Until that point (and its completely unclear on packaging and in manuals) just dont. If its certified to work with any (workplace or gmail) account then thumbs up..Version: 5.66.0

Frustrating. Good when it does what it’s supposed toHad nest a couple of years, setup was easy and the Home/Away assist is a great feature. When it works. It was fine for probably the first year, then I had to reset our home address and reconnect phone locations to it or it would just stay on once we’d gone out. I’ve tried resetting it all from fresh again and now it just does what it wants, either it doesn’t realise you’ve left and keeps heating, or doesn’t realise you’ve come home and doesn’t do anything, so at the moment it’s just working as a normal timed thermostat. Also the learn function just does what it wants and bears no resemblance to how we set it for the first few weeks before it fills the plan in itself. I’ve now given up trying to fight it to do what I want when I want it to, at this point it’s a remote controlled thermostat at best, hence the rating..Version: 5.67.0

Smoke and carbon detectorsThese are great but the app keeps thinking that I have not set the app to run in the background and it is set to that automatically but every time I start up the app it tells me that it’s not and to set it to do so it is so annoying I have even deleted the app and reinstalled it to try and fix this problem but still never worked the support in the app is useless and does nothing at all it just brings up a blank page so over all the detectors are fantastic but the app and support is no good.Version: 5.60.0

Works great until you change the WiFi PasswordWorked great in -40 temp to 104degree F temperatures, night/Day, worked great for really almost a year. The girlfriend changed the WiFi password about a week ago, and since then I have tried and tried to get back in to the camera, it just won’t connect, google has no support for it in the end. Just leads you around for trouble shoot your issues, I only keep getting the C100-C119 codes. Trouble shoot them atleast 3 times a day for the last week. NO LUCK AT RECONNECTING. Google says try using your old password, umm yeah okay so change wifi back to original password, reset everything uninstalled the app etc etc tried to connect with it and still nothing. So changed password again disconnected everything then rebooted it all left the camera plugged in and gave it the password again, wouldn’t connect to wifi, dun matter how close u bring it to the router it won’t connect. Anyways I left it alone for almost the whole day and it connected for about 5mins. Then it just lost connection again. So $188 don’t seem like much to a lot of ppl but it’s a lot to me. ALSO GOOGLE JUST TOOK $60 from me to renew the fkin yearly plan for data I did cancel it and still yet to be reimbursed so there’s that too..Version: 5.65.0

Been poor for too long nowThis app after several years now is still slow, clunky and unreliable. Especially for security you often need to access information quickly and accurately which this fails to do. The app takes ages to load and get onto a live feed (if you don’t get logged out in the process) and then doing even mention trying to browse through your history and timeline. At the actual time you always want to look at often the closest it will let you start playing back the history is several minutes away and you keep battling with the app until you get to what you think you might want to review in the first place. Considering the backing of Google and the fact hardy anything has changed in several years I think it’s gotten past a point of being acceptable especially when people are paying a subscription for a service they rely on for information. I’m only a causal user (ie, checking the odd security alert and for parcel deliveries) and it’s often not even worth the effort anymore to check. Please be aware of you considering purchasing the Nest Cams that this is a system which is behind the times..Version: 5.69.1.1

Missed OpportunityAwesome hardware but bad software execution. Navigation is bad. I’ve been using the app and nest secure for over 6 months now and I’m still having problems finding the settings I need. The navigation is so confusing. Another missed opportunity is notification for door sensor. You can look at history in the app but who use this. Surely you can provide an option for the end user to enable notifications when the door or window is opened right? Otherwise why would I install the door sensors?.Version: 5.41.0

Great Thermostat RUINED with ABSURD SCHEDULEWe love our new thermostat , BUT The way the schedule is configured is impossibly difficult and exceedingly frustrating ! I can BARELY SEE the times I’d day and night at the bottom , in fact I have to use a magnifying glass . Yes , I’m over 70 and eyesight not excellent , dry eyes and at present on painkillers post op . But then , as I write , a huge percentage of the population will have some of these problems and , like me , find it literally impossible to easily adjust the schedule . The whole thing needs rewriting by someone who is not just youngish and with brilliant eyesight Also , although still grappling with getting this schedule right for us as only had for a few days , I do get the general idea of how it should look .. but I’m woken e dry night with heating on full blast and I CANNOT see why .. I’ve checked and rechecked that schedule with huge difficulty , but still it looks as though I have it roughly right , and no sign on that schedule of any heating on then There is probably a simple solution to this which I’m sure my son will discover when he takes a look .. But I hope you get the message that the schedule needs a rethink and a total re look to it . It is not rocket science . There are Plenty of people who understand design and the way people think AND the needs of the WHOLE population . Please hire some to sort this out .. and soon !.Version: 5.73.0

The new Eco mode function takes over control of the scheduling in a way that is difficult to manageA few weeks ago, a message came up on the thermostat that we could save energy by going into Eco mode scheduling. That sounded fine to me. However, it turns out that just means that it turned the temperature down to 56° in the middle of the night and leaves it there, so that it’s freezing in the house in the morning. I looked at all the scheduling in the app and everything seem fine, but it wasn’t syncing with what the thermostats said, which was to take the temperature down to 56°, and then occasionally raise it to 62°. When you change the temperature manually, that would only last a few hours. I eventually figured out how to remove all of the programming, which is kind of a bummer because now there’s nothing really smart about the thermostat at all except that I can change it remotely from my phone. I will go back to doing some sort of scheduling, but I strongly suggest that you don’t except the Nest recommendation to let it do it for you. Too bad, because it would be a helpful and energy saving feature if it worked, but it’s not ready for prime time..Version: 5.67.0

After transition to Google - the app has become pathetic!!!!!!!I think there is no connect between the two apps - Nest kicks us to Google Home and Google Home sends us back to Nest - this just an unbelievable nightmare. If I find a third rate option, I would switch over without blinking an eyelid!!!!!! The interface between the two apps is just horrible!!!!!!.Version: 5.65.0

HorribleWorked for a a long time, but suddenly needs me to log in… no idea my Nest password and won’t send me password reset. My nest is a nice 100% manual wall thermostat now, lol.Version: 5.70.0

Good but cameras always go offlineA real pain is that the cameras often go offline for no reason and the only way to get them back on is to disconnect the power and reconnect. Have spoke with support a few times and they just say silly things like “reboot your router.” Not ideal when you’re not at home and can’t restart the camera physically..Version: 5.42.0

Awful!! Tons of issues with the thermostat staying constant!!I bought this thermostat because of my newborn son. I bought the additional sensor to keep in his room so no matter what his room stays warm. This stupid thermostat constantly gets stuck on a temperature, or doesn’t even properly use the sensor in his room that it end’s up being colder than it should be. I had to use a heater several times because of this god awful thermostat. I can’t sleep at night because it sometimes doesn’t turn on the heat. The app shows lets say its 67 and I have it set to 72, but it stays grey and doesn’t turn orange indicating heating. It just kept letting the house get colder and colder, and I had to get a space heater for my newborns room and stay wake until it warms up and turn it off. Biggest mistake I ever made trusting this thermostat and app to keep my newborn son safe and warm. As a parent you’re already barely sleeping because you have to feed them, but then not sleeping because of a freaking thermostat is beyond me. Im researching other thermostats now to purchase because of this stupid, god awful, poorly made product. I wish they just stopped selling this product and causing lots of people grief and headaches.Version: 5.69.1.1

Playback unreliableThere is a time delay in the door bell when someone rings it. The playback freezes and can’t replay the clip..Version: 5.76.0

Constant playback issues, currently unusableFor the last month or so, I have been having constant playback issues from the app. It seems the majority of the time it will just load infinitely, especially if you try to seek to a particular point in the timeline. Given this is a paid service, this really isn’t an acceptable level of quality. In its current state the app is unusable. Other misc issues: - Constantly logged out and it can sometimes be difficult to get back in - Zooming in the viewfinder can be extremely finicky and will sometimes just swipe back to the previous page, losing your place.Version: 5.68.0

I have nest for 5 years now, and I’m sad it’s going away because of googleI originally picked nest because I was avoiding ADT and any other huge companies for over charging us a service! I love that I open the Nest app and i can see everything from nest smartdoor, all cameras, thermostats and sensors. I was so happy with it for 5 years, but when google bought it, everything is changing. The Nest app is slower and now its saying there will be no future updates after April 8 of this year and also whenever I buy new cameras, it doesn’t show on Nest app anymore, only on google home app. Even the yearly price with Nest aware went up, this is so sad! Everything i used to love with Nest is all going away because of google. The sensors for the door and windows is now going to be non functional because google wants to sell us ADT service. We had it good and now it’s being ruined by google. I love the new camera google is adding, but that would have been great if that shows up on Nest App as well, we can continue using the nest app because most customers love the look and how easy it is to navigate, and pls dont remove our home sensors!!!!! We dont want ADT, if this all continues, im leaving Nest and switching to other companies similar to Nest..Version: 5.74.0

The nest is too challenging!I have used the nest for 9 months and just when I think I’ve got it figured out there’s another challenge. Btw…it’s just not me. I’ve asked for help from far more technologically savvy people and they r just as frustrated..Version: 5.67.0

Increasing issues with sensorsI don’t use this connected to Alexa or any other voice activated device, I had to turn off learning mode because I had to turn it down too often, I turned off home/away assist because it would put me as Away when I work from home (whether I use the phone location or walking past the thermostat) and I have ongoing issues with the setting of a comfort sensor (remote sensor from thermostat). I have 2 additional sensors other than the thermostat, they are not on a schedule. One is downstairs and I manually set to that one when I finish work upstairs. I used to have to set it about 3x a night to keep it on. The heating schedule (sensor is supposed to remain selected until the next change in the schedule) in the evening starts when I finish work and ends just before bedtime. I shouldn’t have to keep setting it. I searched the support community and this issue has been going on since 2022. This is now increasing in frequency and will even switch back to the thermostat before I even close the app. I had to force quit the app to get it to stick. I love the product but it’s disappointing that this has been an issue so long with no fix. For what I paid, it should be working perfectly, especially since I don’t use most of the bells and whistles..Version: 5.73.0

Worst app everI hate this app It keeps giving an error message so I have to repeatedly “try again” It doesn’t update the temperature if you minimise the app before it it shows the temp has changed, so you have to hang around in the app until that happens You can’t boost the temp for a set amount of time, you have to remember to switch it off. For example, if you want to put the heating on for two hours. This has lead to the heating being on for several hours because the person who put it on doesn’t remember to turn it off. Not very energy efficient. The interface for setting your schedule is abysmal. Having to drag tiny circles to the time you want and Temp you want is infuriating and you can’t even clone days so you have to do it for each one! I’d rather put numbers in please. You could have all sorts of advanced options, such as a saved summer schedule, a saved winter schedule, a “I’m at home” schedule, a “I’m going to work” schedule etc- user defined by preference, then you could switch to a user-defined pre-set on any day depending on your schedule. The days of predictability are gone- many of us work odd hybrid schedules which can change from week to week. I think the whole concept of a learning thermostat is defunct (at least for a significant proportion of the population) and a different type of advanced functionality is called for, as described above!.Version: 5.70.0

SmithBought 1 outdoor nest camera which went onto the nest app, paid monthly subscription so I could keep an eye on my motorbike, decided to invest in 5 more cameras for each room to keep an eye on the cat haha and a doorbell. Had to download google home as they were not compatible with the nest app. Which is disappointing. I changed my banking provider and let my nest aware expire. With my new banking details and the new cameras and doorbell set up on the google home app, I tried to get the monthly nest aware for I think £6 a month, I got a message back from google demanding government issued ID like a drivers license or passport and a utility bill with my name and address, I tried to contact someone on the phone which is impossible and the instant chat to 6 different agents resulted in nothing but a demand for me to produce ID and proof of name and address, I’m giving them nothing as it’s a bit over the top for someone who just wants to keep an eye on a motorbike and a cat. So after spending £750 on the equipment I’m left without nest aware and unable to have any footage saved to cloud. Really bad experience and gave 1 star as no option for zero stars which is more deserved..Version: 5.75.0

Good app but needs some updates in the schedule. My goal is to maximise my contribution to help the environment. Since I put the thermostat my energy consumption went down and that is a good sign. I have set a schedule to heat the water in a daily basis, as I don't have a combi boiler. I wish there was a setting to flick somewhere to override the default schedule mechanism and to be able to set the timer in minutes, as there's still plenty of wasted energy there I believe. For example, wanting to heat the water for 50 minutes instead of 1 hour would be beneficial with the same result. But you can't do that, as there are only segments of 30 minute intervals. If everyone could have the option to do the same adjustments, then imagine how good that would be for emitting less gases to the atmosphere from all of us! Therefore, when I receive the emails from Nest reporting my green leaves, it's quite contradicting, as I could definitely do better but the app doesn't let me. Another suggestion is that the thermostat could measure the temperature in the house and adjust the schedule accordingly. For example, It needs more time to heat the water in the winter and less in the summer. Also, the app could ask us "how was your shower today?" [Too cold - Cold - Good - Hot - Too hot]. Thereafter, it would fine adjust itself daily after selecting one of the answers above. Ok, I'll stop writing more now ;) Thanks..Version: 5.70.0

No good if you want to set and forgetI use this app to control my heating system. I have to check it every single day to delete all the random temperature changes at random times of the day that it adds every single day. I wish I could just set the temps I want when I want them and forget about it - not even remotely possible. The only thing that I can rely on is when I change the temp on my way home to make sure the house is warm when I get there. I have an up to date iPhone 13..Version: 5.72.0

Missing basic features and old designThe app works but is not that user friendly and lacks of basic features, probably because of its old design. The support of the sensors is done like a patch (when you are able to add them…in my old apartment I had a ticket open for 3 months before getting it fixed and being able to add them), meaning that is not properly designed and integrated. You can see the temperatures of the different sensors but you can only set one sensor to trigger the AC manually or based on only 4 time slots of the day, regardless of the day of the week, which is a big limitation. Should it be clever enough to calculate the average of the temperature of all the sensors of the house and use it to set the temperature or the average of specific sensors? Yes, it should…but it doesn’t!! What a big disappointment. Last: there is no “snooze” / pause button if you want to temporarily stop the air from blowing : you have to change the temperature to do that and then change again when you want it to start again. I think it’s time to rethink completely at the app with the features in mind of the 2021..Version: 5.66.0

Easy to useWe purchased this unit years ago. It was easy to install and contained very helpful instructions. Once we install the app we were set. I enjoy the fact that at night I don't have to get up to change the temperature on the thermostat. Our home is rather large and has a very strong blowing unit. Since the temperature we set on the thermostat doesn't always need to be the same temperature it tends to cause me to get up several times at night to adjust the thermostat. Now I can just pick up my phone and push arrow down or arrow up to the set the temperature I want and I'm good to go. I also like the preprogramming aspect. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to make life easier. The price was a little high but I'm hoping it will save me in my utility bill so I can at the very least break even. Negative aspects: the app keeps logging me out sometimes 3x a day and then makes we verify my Google credentials to log in. It Doesn’t work consistently with Lenovo products like the clock radio when I say Google set upstairs to 75 the Lenovo product proceeds to tell me that product is not set up yet you need to set it up again even though we both know it’s set up. this will happen sometimes 3 to 4 times before it finally does what I need it to..Version: 5.69.0.3

App doesn’t work with google homeCamera video quality is good for google nest. However if you accidentally put someone you know into unfamiliar face you can’t change it. Failed heatlink within a yearThere is no manual swicth to on the boiler when heatlink fail. Though it was replaced free as it still under warranty, we had wait a week. Thermostat is an important & essential part of the heating system that should never fail…. That is how the old bimetallic gauges were lasting over 39 years… the old thermostats were made to last unlike the google nest thermostat… Mine is version 3 & it should be a more refined device… saying these, smart devices are an integral part of our lives now. I am thinking of having a spare thermostat at home… to avoid the downtime in future. The guy who changed the heatlink took defective heatlink with him. That is not right. I wanted it to analyst it to find the fault as I have electronics background… they should not take the faulty heatlink as it belonged to me… it denied my right to troubleshoot that device. I should have arranged for their technician to come here to fix the heatlink. I should just ask them to mail me replacement… I have 2 thermostats(3rd gen) & 1 failed within a year… if the other one failed judging from numerous internet posts on failed heatlink… I have no confidence on the other one. I will not arrange for their technician to come to my house next time, simply just sent the replacement...Version: 5.68.0

Used to be brilliantSince google has taken over the product the app has become an exercise in frustration. A change in the wifi meant I had to reconfigure the two nests I have. It took me two days of resetting to factory settings and continually getting timeouts on trying to find the nest, trying to enter the wifi details and timeouts adding the nest to my account which btw I am refusing to convert to a google account. The alarms themselves are excellent but I will never buy one of these again because of google.Version: 5.67.0

Don’t Buy!Nest is a terrible product dressed up to look fancy. Nothing in the system is reliable (except it’s ability to go wrong). The boiler will often (and I mean 1 or 2 times a week) come on in the middle of the night. Check the app and it says everything is off.. so you can’t just press a button in the app and turn it off. You have to go to your boiler and power off the entire central heating as there’s no “Stop” or “Off” button on the heat link. I thought it was the learning mode that was causing it to randomly come on so turned that off. Then it still comes on hours before the schedule due to its preheat setting. Turn that off too. Now it should just be a dumb schedule - but it fires up multiple times burning through gas in the middle of the night instead of saving you money. Oh, and you paid hundreds of pounds for the privilege! Seriously - please don’t bother. It won’t improve your lives!.Version: 5.67.0

Impossible to change, thumbs down v2I have had the Nest for about a month now. Initially, the learning feature worked great. However, as summer approaches it’s getting warmer faster than I can create inputs for the device. So, I’m waking up in the middle of night to a boiling home. When I attempt to manually make changes to the schedule, a few glaring issues arise: (1) it’s impossible to make broad changes across multiple days (2) it’s literally impossible to delete temperature changes - once the Nest has added a temperature change you are stuck with it - I have instances where the temperature schedule requires 3-4 adjustments in the same 3-4 hour span of time. Brutal. I have an iPhone X - there are Most certainly bugs in the app that inhibit the user from rapidly making changes to the schedule (3) the app forces you to use this non intuitive landscape mode for schedule changes, additionally - the schedule settings screen is so poorly designed and requires you to press buttons on your iPhone in a ridiculously precise way. I’m frankly shocked the app experience is so poor given this is a google acquired company. I wish I had gone with another brand entirely, with a newer app..Version: 5.60.0

Support is not greatHardware and cloud is fine but support is enough to want to make you change to another system. Impossible to get any help directly and have to rely on external forums. 4 months on and still waiting for a request to help with renewing subscription.Version: 5.69.1.1

V. Good....when it worksOur Nest Thermostat is soon to be the 6th and our Heatlink the 3rd, fitted in less than 2 years. Some of the problems have been hardware, including a failing battery on the Thermostats and a damaged Heatlink, mis-installed by a Nest approved technician. Some of the Nest support has been excellent but there have been too many mistakes, such as sending the wrong or a faulty replacement part or sending it to the wrong address or customer support not having sufficient level of technical skill to solve a problem. When Nest authorises repair work, they expect you to pay the Nest technician upfront and then reimburse you with a cheque within 40 days, so you are regularly out of pocket. Maybe they should show some consistency and offer all their products to customers on 40 days’ free credit. Nest needs to up its game, in particular its customers focus. Firstly it must improve quality control on hardware leaving the factory gate. I’ve been sent brand new replacement Thermostats from their factory in Poland that were faulty. Secondly, it now needs much stricter monitoring of approved installers. My experience has been that you have a 50/50 chance of getting someone who will do a good job, which means that there is an equal risk of employing someone who will mess up the Installation. Thirdly it needs to reimburse customers by direct bank account transfers within 7 working days..Version: 5.42.0

The app is stuckSince the last few weeks the app is just got stuck on the splash screen (looks like it’s trying to get connected). The progress bar keeps spinning forever. I tried to update the app but did not help. Then I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it and still same issue!.Version: 5.76.0

Thermostat app is garbageDoesn’t adjust the temperature via the app. It shows the template has changed but doesn’t adjust it it on the thermostat then just shows off line. Better makes available.Version: 5.76.0

Badly designed NEST Protect could have been excellentThese products do not work in a kitchen. Whilst it has heat and carbon monoxide sensors, the smoke sensor cannot be turned off so it cannot be used. This means the most critical part of the house is left unprotected so I had to buy and install a different stand alone sensor that will not alert me if there is a fire. Also I don’t want to have to use a Google account to set them up with. Google is very complicated to use and I’d rather have a completely separate Nest account like they did at first. Finally if the movement sensor lights up the light at night, why can’t it act as a burglar alarm when my app GPS knows I have left the house? The cynical side of me says Google wants to sell us the best burglar alarm set as well, because no Google engineer worth it’s salt would not have come up with the same idea I had. Solve these three issues and your product will be unbeatable. Otherwise it’s a badly thought through mediocre made in China product..Version: 5.70.0

Better than the old 2 off 2 on timer switch but!Big improvement over the old 7 x 2 on-off a day timer. Good integration the google voice devices if you have a Google home. Though only half integrated. Can set the temp manually but not boost hot water. Still too many gaps in the auto temp setting, so have to use the scheduler, which has its own issues. It’s difficult to switch between a holiday schedule and back to school schedule. Increments for hot water scheduling stuck in 30 mins increments. In the UK the hot water pump must running before and after the gas fire, hence the Nest keeps the pump running for a min of 30 mins even if heating only takes 10 mins. Both the UI and energy efficiency could be much better with improvements in the software. I wouldn’t go back to a manual timer but there may be better solutions out there now..Version: 5.70.0

Inflexible for no reasonI hate this app and don't understand any of the design choices. For one, setting up the schedule requires you to randomly put your finger along an XY axis and hope that you get the time of day and temperature you were hoping for. Why isn’t there an easier way to set the specific time and temperature? I don't even know how they came up with this awful setup. You also have to set each day individually with no ability to duplicate a schedule throughout multiple days. Moreover, you should have the ability to set a temperature based on a specific sensor. As it's set up, you can either have the sensors set up to a constant preset schedule that is very rigid (morning 7-11, midday 11-4, evening 4-9, night 9-7) or otherwise choose which sensor you want to use throughout the day manually (that defeats the whole point of a programmable "smart" thermostat). This is extremely stupid. First, these times are completely arbitrary. Second, my days vary, as do most people's. I don't wake up at the same time on days I have to commute or over weekends, so I would like to use my bedroom sensor in the mornings up until different times. I would also like to use my office sensor only on days I work from home. I just do not understand why they made this app this way when there's an opportunity for high flexibility/programmability..Version: 5.68.0

Some good some badWhile my Thermostat is working great, my outdoor camera is not. After I changed internet provider, it will not pair with my app. I’m not happy..Version: 5.76.0

Will NOT SAVE ChangesI have owned 8 thermostats controlling radiant heating and 12 hard wired detectors in my house since I built it over 10 years ago and I had NEST since it came on the market in a previous house I built. I like how the detectors provide voice notifications and identify where there may be an issue, which is usually “Low Battery”, because they burn through batteries way too quickly. The Lithium lasts longer but they still shouldn’t drain so quickly unless the power is out, which doesn’t happen. However, my biggest frustration is going through the laborious process of changing times and temps on the 8 thermostat schedules and then have the changes not save and either reset back or in an occasional instance have changes I didn’t make. I am the only one of the four of us in the house with the app and the thermostats do not get changed by hand. The heating system is turned off most of the year because I’m located near the coast in San Diego where it doesn’t get very cold and I don’t have AC. It is December and I am just now turning the system on and adjusting the schedule in each zone and I’m going through the same long process multiple times because changes aren’t saving. Frustrating!.Version: 5.70.0

Not for automationNest is great if you don’t care what temperature your house is as long as you’re “saving” money. The good: It’s digital and wifi connected with an app It uses geofencing to control temperature when you’re away. The bad Nest attempts to “learn” your temperatures by remembering every time your adjust the thermostat. The problem here is I don’t adjust my thermostat at the same time every day and to the exact same temperature. So I’m often finding myself at some random time saying why am I so cold? Or so hot? I go and check the temperature to find out that nest decided I wanted it warmer (or colder) because last Tuesday I set the temperature. But it then resets it to Wednesday’s temperature the next day (which may be different). Nest does have a schedule where you can set the temperature but often, if you randomly adjust it for say a party or a dinner with friends nest will yet again decide that this is the preferred temperature at that time so next Friday be prepared to have your heat suddenly turn off ( or the AC) Overall the device is just over thought. Temerpature doesn’t need to be this complex..Version: 5.70.0

Confused confusionThe controls and management Thermostat is very difficult to make sense of. While eco mode may be very good at cutting back on fuel bills understanding how to A) switch the heating on if you wake up earlier than usual in the morning. This is true even when you walk around the house B) setting up your partner’s iPhone for access to controls via her phone C) switch on heating in advance of coming home from a holiday D) how to set timings on programmer All these simple operations seem complicated and problematic to manage. Often the boiler doesn’t behave as you expect ie heating does not come on or it comes on only when you switch eco off manually even though you have been moving about the house for some minutes upstairs and downstairs. Is the thermostat only sensitive if mobile phone is in one’s pocket? Our home is currently only lived in periodically so no pattern of use can be established. Mostly the house is empty in winter. Some simple instructions on how to switch the heating on remotely BEFORE arriving (but also guaranteeing it will not left it on after we have left ) would be helpful. Also how to make heating come on when in eco but getting up earlier than normal would be appreciated If both these require switching of eco each time, please explain. DisappointingReview 2: over the last few months I’ve really noticed that my Nest doorbell has just got worse and worse, I can’t load any video, just constantly loading. I try to answer the doorbell and it takes two minutes to even connect by which time whoever rang has gone. The camera function is way too slow to ever be useful. Seriously considering binning it off and buying a Ring doorbell instead. Review 1: Can never actually silence the smoke alarms from my phone, it just says turn on my phones Bluetooth (which is always on). Given that I don’t have long between the smoke alarm alerting me to my partner burning something in the kitchen and the full alarm going off I don’t want to have to faff around reconnecting via Bluetooth every time. I thought they were connected via WiFi so when I get a notification I can quickly silence from my phone. Also, considering my google account is all now linked in to Nest, why can’t I ask my google home mini to make the alarm shut up??.Version: 5.68.1

Why I gave it just one star. Most of the time the app just goes around and around trying to connect. Even when I’m in the same room as the camera. I have a very good and fast home network so I don’t understand why I can never have a look at what’s happening in the one room in my home that has a camera. When I first got the camera and set up nest, about 18 months ago, it worked perfectly. Every time there’s an update to the app I update it and it’s just got worse and worse, to the point where now hardly ever works. I don’t think it’s now a very good app at all. Sorry..Version: 5.70.0

Shame on you GoogleBought a set of Google Nest camera on battery for 3 . I could not install the camera via either app or browser regardless of how much i have tried to follow the instructions. The team should look the Nest app seriously and make sure it work again.Version: 5.69.1.1

Very good but needs some attentionGoogle support means Nest can no longer be accessed off an Apple TV. However, a Nest App can still be used on an iPhone thankfully. It also means a Google account is a requirement. Troubleshooting support from Google is good when things go wrong but such information updates should be available beforehand e.g. on transformer brands and voltage. The subscription is reasonable. The app has a confusing mode switch called ‘home’ and ‘away.’ Home means there will be no alerts or recording. Away means there is recording on and doorbell alerts. Otherwise, face recognition works well and you can save names to faces. Occasionally, unique door chimes are released such as at Christmas time, which is nice. It’s an intuitive app, well designed, and reliable for the most part. The service is generally reliable but suffers from lag, black outs, and non-connectivity. When you need it most it might let you down e.g., the doorbell rings and you check who it is but it’s buffering away with no footage available..Version: 5.72.0

No thermostat progressionI’ve had the Nest for 6 years and am disappointed in the lack of technical development of the app. The energy history is impossible to decipher if there have been lots of manual adjustments, and I would like to have more insight and control eg notifications if temperature changed above a certain value, or max settings without a pin. In a household with people who “fiddle” (especially small children) these things are essential, I feel like going back to the horrible old wall thermostat that no one else knew how to operate! I would also love to know how much hot water I have in my tank, as telling me when the hot water has been on is not going to tell me if anyone else has left me enough for a shower. Surely these things aren’t difficult? 2 stars just for the fact that I do like the interface and how it knows when to start heating my house to reach a temperature when I get up, and turns off when I’m away..Version: 5.76.0

Still logs out too muchI’ll be using the app, then I have to log back in all of a sudden. Apart from that it’s fine..Version: 5.67.0

Trapped in a service that I did not want.I bought my cameras two years ago and have had no complaint until recent. I have upgraded my plan and down graded my plan with no problems until late. I called myself upgrading back to 30 days video history to find out about EBR(event based recording). The most ridiculous thing I have ever came across. Now there are patches of footage in my history that are missing. I have missed arguments that the cameras use to pick up but now don’t because no one was in view of the camera. I can not stand it. I bought the cameras because the way they function. With the upgrade I’m now generation two and the owner of 300 dollar cameras that function how google feels they should. To top it off I was paying $40per camera a year. Now to get them to function the way they were when I bought them.I have to pay $60 a year per camera. The costumer service is below average the take turn transferring you to the next person that can not help you. Defiantly a product to avoid. There are other cameras out there for cheaper. That offer the same thing cheaper and you can avoid having patches of important footage missing. The company is trying to save storage space or charge you monthly for it is my best guess. Either way it’s at the cost of the consumers sense of security..Version: 5.60.0

Google ruined NestNot sure what happened to the Nest thermostat product line, either Google took over and tweaked the product to their specifications, or Nest produced a product that was meant to be disposable and then sold it to Google... My two year old nest thermostat woke up one day and decided that it couldn’t/wouldn’t connect to my wifi. No reason, that Google would admit to, just because it felt the need to be independent I guess? After a day of back and forth with google support, they graciously offered to replace my two year old thermostat (just a few months out of warranty... what happened to products that were designed to last and last and last???). I waited the week to get my new thermostat and just finished the almost two hour installation process... same issue as before, first it couldn’t/wouldn’t find my wifi network, then when it finally found it, it wouldn’t/couldn’t connect (keep claiming the password was incorrect...no it wasn’t), then when it finally conceded to doing what it was designed to do, it wouldn’t connect to my nest app on my iPhone... after several resets and retry’s, I was finally able to convince the two products to communicate with each other... probably my last nest product... my A/C guy says go with Honeywell... think I will next time....Version: 5.60.0

App sucks get a ring doorbell insteadThe app is awful in terms of the door bell footage. The front door footage never loads and gets false triggered all the time. The actual door bell itself doesn’t chime when u ring it even though chime is on in the settings. If you need a good reliable doorbell and a good reliable app I recommend ring 10 time out of 10.Version: 5.67.0

Doesn’t work after paying $120I have had this service for several years, and it’s been a fantabulous platform. However, last year in the month of April, both cameras stopped working. It acts as if I don’t have a subscription. I decided to pay for the next one year which wasn’t due until June of 2023 in the amount of $120. It still doesn’t work and I have tried everything. There are no resources, no customer service personnel to assist. In the past, I was able to call customer service if I had a problem and they would resolve any issues or concerns. Ever since Google took over the service has gone completely downhill. It seems no one is willing to help resolve the issue and also I don’t even know how to cancel the service. Needless to say, I am very unhappy with this service and I wish that someone would reach out and do something about this. I feel the only way to resolve this problem is to take legal action to regain my losses. I just believe the company can careless about anyone so long as the are making a profit. This is the worst company I have ever experienced in my 58 year of living. Sorry but I have no good things to say about this as I have spent many hours reading blogs as they have made the customer blog their customer service to eliminate staff. I was also sent to a scammer in India. I was on to him and ended the call. Please help me to see this company in a different light. As for now it the worst and I’d beware..Version: 5.73.0

Love it but..I love this app but what I find frustrating and they need to fix is torturing to turn the heat on and it keeps going on Eco mode... what gives!?!?.Version: 5.60.0

Avoid, costly and doesn’t workNot sure that I would invest again. The thermostat keeps randomly turning the heating on overnight which interrupts my sleep, costs me money and damages the environment. I called Nest and was put on hold repeatedly for the best past of two hours, they tried to fob me off by saying that my boiler had a stuck valve and have since emailed me to say that the complaint had been forwarded to their technical department. The issue has still not been resolved and and is obviously a software problem as the app has many glitches some the recent iOS update. If I was naive I would also have a large invoice for a heating engineer to check my perfectly behaved boiler. Regarding the Nest cams, I have never been able to access my footage online on any computer (either MacBook or PC (only on my phone) so when I needed to download some footage for the police it was very stressful. This again is despite over two hours on the phone on two occasions with pretty helpless advice. Look elsewhere if you want a system that works and doesn’t literally cost the earth..Version: 5.41.0

Buffers endlesslyLike other recent reviews, the update has broken the app. Takes forever to load. Video constantly buffers when I select events or scroll through the timeline. Please fix this. I pay $180 a year for this service so I expect it work. Very frustrating and am contemplating selling the camera and buying either a Eufy or Reolink to replace..Version: 5.68.0

Absolutely garbageBought the cameras to replace dlink ones that stopped working after a year, it took multiple attempts by me and 2 and a half hours to troubleshoot via text on customer support, they finally added to google home app. Will not add to this (nest)app, rubbish customer support they have an option for calling but this never works so you have to do the whole thing by text. At three cameras costing $900 and a $18 month subscription the footage is great but it’s useless without customer service, would not bother with the headache again. I’ve also got a nest hub, tons of issues pretty much can’t use the camera in any app..Version: 5.67.0

The app is not dependableI have been using Nest cameras and a Nest thermostat for a few years now, and they work well. Sady it's a different story for the app. Home and away detection has always been erratic. Sometimes the heating turns off when we both go out, but the cameras don't turn on. Other times, the cameras stay on when one of us comes home. Or nothing happens, even though both our phone apps show the correct home/away status. Now, the thermostat history shows "no usage" for most days, even though clicking on those days does show the heating activity! That's a real nuisance because I can't get the total daily time just when our usage has stated to matter. Sometimes I have to sighn out and back to get any history updates. And signing in - every time I have to go through "Nest wants access to your Google Account" palaver, even though I first agreed to that years ago :-(..Version: 5.69.1.1

Nest hello doorbellMy 2 x nest thermostats and 6 x nest smoke alarms look and operate perfectly and are very clever and I’m very happy with them however my nest hello doorbell is disappointing! For such an expensive product it’s very difficult to install compared to other brands such as the Ring doorbell. I have fitted and used both. Too many limitations on the nest product unless you are prepared to pay for a yearly subscription. The quality of the video is excellent and the product looks great but the internal door bell sounder is very complicated compared to the Ring, the app has crashed on several occasions whilst talking to people over the door bell. The alert perimeter adjustment can’t be changed unless full subscription meaning allot of false alerts etc. I also feel that having £200 clipped to your front door is asking for a theft issue. I think the product should be redesigned so it has two parts, one being the expensive components inside and the cheaper components such as the camera/mic on the outside. These two items could work in tandem to prevent theft issues and installation ease. Nest make elegantly designed simple, clever products but in my opinion the nest hello needs a rethink. Hikvision also make a smart doorbell..Version: 5.42.0

Worst app everCamera worked great for a week but after that the app kept having issues. It won’t record most of the time and the clips that it does record won’t play. I used to be able to view a clip from the day and watch the playback but now it won’t play anymore.. it’s just a photo which is so useless. For something worth $230 I would expect it to work.. it won’t even do the bare minimum of what it supposed to.. useless product and app. Never buying nest cameras again.Version: 5.60.0

Near doorbell cameraValue sucks for what you pay for! Not worth it! Wish I had known the subscription fees before purchasing. Also for the last year my nest keeps going offline, I have strong wifi so that’s not the issue. I have to try to reconnect manually multiple times and it’s still not working efficiently..Version: 5.76.0

Upsetting annoying - don’t get a Nest!!!I’m going to be very surprised if this review makes it onto the App Store but what the heck- here goes. Despite reinstalling this app it loves a crash midway through programming. And I mean constantly- ever time I use it. And by the way we are talking different iOS and different age devices. Constant sign in demands. Constantly not working. Also I hate that it’s impossible to have an account with nest that isn’t linked to google. The man has it all now! I have to sign in via Google to use this. (And wow do I sign in: re-programming Nest ensures a lot of these happen). And all that data share, my valuable data, is now being used analytically without me being paid. For what? Nothing improved in two years of ownership. Well analyse this: I’ll make it easy for you. Nest you are a thorn in my side. It will cost me a fortune to get my plumber to come and take it away and get me an alternative. I am stuck with it, it feels like a massive con. So my advice to folk: don’t ever get involved no matter what good reviews top this feedback. I want a refund but can’t ever qualify for one. It’s an enormous outlay as it needs pro installation. And it’s a load of not right. Additional info- the nest device stops working if you have a crash to its power source. This means your heat stops working and it’s impossible to override. Also once the fault is detected it won’t work as it needs to charge its battery. Avoid this device and its app at all costs..Version: 5.70.0

Ecobee is far betterProgramming the week on this app was created by a lunatic that hates people. There is absolutely no way whoever created the programming for the week was sober when they made this app. I could ask my 3-year old cousin to come up with a better solution. It is so complicated. Ecobee is easier and fewer bugs..Version: 5.72.0

Not worth the subscription priceIt decides on what is an important event or not. Despite having my camera pointed directly at my front door and vehicles, we get zero alerts when someone comes to our door and got nothing when we had tires slashed and one of our vehicles broken into. Twice. The app showed nothing for that time. But every car driving down the street (about 15+ metres away) was an event worthy of saving. Useless to say the least. Thankfully we have more reliable Ring cameras that picked up the crimes and visitors without issue. And doesn’t send us stupid alerts for cars driving down the street nowhere near our house. We can set inactive zones which Nest doesn’t do. Ring lets us know when someone is in our driveway too. Something the Nest cam has never done. Also, when trying to go to review the 30 day history, I have to click on the date (30 days previous) 7 or more times before it goes to my chosen date. Then, if you turn to landscape mode to get a better view and turn it back to portrait, you lose the option to save. Then you have to go back to clicking on the date multiple times to get back to where you were. It gives you the spinning wheel of death frequently. And it is not my device or wifi or mobile network. All tested fine. It’s the useless app. It works great for the thermostat and the Co2/smoke detector (which are great products), but the cameras are useless and as soon as our subscription is up (they keep your credit card on file and won’t remove it), we are cancelling and will be removing our cameras and will be adding more Ring ones. They and Blink are much better. I suspect other brands are too. Also, they haven’t done anything to improve the app over the years. They just take away features and then charge you more for less. I should be able to determine what an event is, not your useless cameras..Version: 5.76.0

Does not play nice with google homePurchased a nest protect unit to work with my google home and google nest pro. I found the nest app does not talk to the google home . I was hoping I would get notifications from my nest protect to my google speakers so I would be notified if there was issues or a fire in the other part of the house. This is not the case. I have spent a few hours trying to connect the two apps / logins together. This is very poor given the price point of the physical equipment.Version: 5.60.0

Very poor performanceUPDATE: Why is Nest totally ignoring my phone’s volume settings????? If I need to check the cameras during the night, I want to be able to do that without the audio blaring out and waking everyone up. Very poor Google. Sort your software out. The app itself has a decent level of functionality- I tend not to have to use it much, with 2 x Protects and 1 x Thermostat, interaction is done on-device. However, recently bought Nest Hello and this relies heavily on app for daily use - really showing up limitations. Issues are mainly around performance. I have very fast internet, but the app seems to be constantly in a state of loading. For a device where most of the time you just want a quick update, the performance isn’t good enough. The Apple Watch app is also broken, and seems to require a complete uninstall/reinstall to get working. All in all, great hardware, good proposition, lousy server backend & client app..Version: 5.66.0

Thermostat works ok, cameras are terribleI don’t seem to have any issues with the thermostat it works well. The issues I have are with the cameras, I have used them for years and the app has simply never been any good, I have the outdoor IQ cams (expensive) and the app makes them almost useless. Playing back video is impossible, it simply loads a still frame and never plays and I was receiving alerts for things outside the zone for alerting. I actually dropped my subscription and used the free sub and since then it hasn’t worked at all, even scrolling through the time line just gives a blank window, I can’t download video any more (my old way to view clips due to the problems mentioned above) and so I can only really view the live video stream. I would sell these on eBay but I would actually feel a bit guilty doing so, it’s that bad! I don’t say this lightly, this may be the worst implementation of software I’ve seen in many many years. Unless I see an improvement in the next few months I will not be re-subscribing to Nest Aware, I will be taking the cameras down and replacing them with a different brand. Sadly, the fact it’s been pretty broken for years, I don’t think things will change any time soon..Version: 5.57.0

Nest thermostatsPlease if anyone is thinking of buying a Google nest thermostat think twice the after-care is horrendous the company you’re based in Poland and they take an upfront payment of £139 for a replacement unit that doesn’t work and then cannot provide you with the correct postal label to send back but they will still take your money and promise you they won’t take the money from your account if anyone is thinking of buying any Google products think twice about the after-care if anything goes wrong they are working with no governing bodies there is no way of contacting anyone to help you with any sort of problems they just fob you off with lies when you try to contact anyone in Britain about it citizens advice bureau ombudsman they all say you need to contact the American embassy to find out who their governing bodies are when I’ve asked Google to supply me with this they never do they change the subject or say they can’t do so because they don’t know who they are for eight weeks they’ve held my money promised me a new postal label to send their products back but never do this is probably the worst service I’ve ever had from any electrical company in my whole life please be aware anyone thinking of buying any of their products.Version: 5.60.0

My own thoughtsHaving used Nest for a few years now, here are my thoughts. Apart from a few occasions when the system lost its connection, the operation has been reliable. This is a learning thermostat, it attempts to learn your habits. As such, unless you add some manual overrides the system may act spontaneously in unexpected ways. For example we do not like to have heating on overnight. If you want 20 degree C heat at 08:00 Nest will preheat to achieve the required temperature by 08:00 taking into account local weather forecasting. So if the outdoors temperature is very low, the boiler may activate at daft o’clock (3 am) which then causes me to overheat in bed and wakes me in the middle of the night. I had to set manual low temperature point through the night to prevent this. There is a handy setting which shuts down heating when the house is empty. However if you are away from home you might want to trigger the heating on to warm things up in time for your arrival home. But then it turns off within 15 minutes because there is nobody at home. Overall I am reasonably satisfied with the system, but be aware that it can fight against your intentions..Version: 5.70.0

So far so good - easy to use.App was easy to use - picked up Nest Protect and ran me accurately through the steps. Recommended..Version: 5.5.0

Great theory. Average executionOn the surface, Nest looks like it has everything you need to set up your smart home. Whilst the hardware is slick, in reality the functionality is poor. Two examples (of many small niggles) after 2.5 years of using it. - The App is SLOW! I am yet to an instance when someone rings my doorbell, I am notified by my phone (even when I’m at home), I turn on the App, it logs in, it allows me to select the ‘Live speak’ function, and I actually speak to the person at the door. They have always cleared off (often with a package I was expecting) while the App spins its wheels and I look at a still picture of the visitor (taken 2-mins ago). - The Room Thermostats are too smart for their own good. I want to set the temperature cycle for my house and have it at the temp I want. I don’t want some ‘clever’ eco-tech (apparently) ‘learning’ when I don’t need to be warm and then turning off my heating at any point it decides on a freezing day. I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to override this ‘helpful/smart’ feature…..but apparently I’m not qualified to decide on my own house temperature….so the algorithms continue to cut me out of the loop and dictate my carbon footprint for me. Overall - it looks nice but the user experience is….average…..and the App is too slow to be useful..Version: 5.73.0

Getting from bad to worseI’m not sure why am I asked to write a review every time I open the app?!? No positive change yet, actually, is getting worse! When I was researching which doorbell to buy, Nest was in my opinion the best choice, it ticked all the boxes. Two & half years after, it seems it’s getting worse by the day. The connection is very slow, although we have a super fast internet connection at home and a stable full range 4G. Whenever I want to check what a push notification was received, by the time I get to connect and open the specific seen, I give up considering that you can’t see anything more than a frozen clip. The actual video recording won’t start at all. ‘Person at the door’ ringing and I am trying to connect using ‘Talk’ function option, however, by the time I get connected, whoever was at the door, is long gone! It’s very important to mention, we have been paying for the premium extras, cloud recordings etc, buy decided to cancel it due to the poor inability to use the service. Poor, poor, poor!.Version: 5.70.0

5 years and still not paying offAs I write this, the outdoor temperature is 12 degrees Fahrenheit. We woke up to a dead battery in the Nest and a sleeping furnace, leaving the house at a balmy 58 degrees F. Not an unusual situation for google’s little privacy intruder. I had the opportunity for 8 years to work in Class A HVAC network controllers and data analysis. And purchased the puck in a geek driven optimism that I could use this to track my monthly energy savings after upgrading the windows and insulation of my house. Energy company only gives me cost history, not therms by day. The puck collects internal temperature, outside temperature and humidity, all I need to see I made a difference! But no! The consumer data only tells you how long your equipment ran for and only recent history, not over time. But lo! The Nest API does! And you can ping the API with a script connected to a spreadsheet for that! But no! Google buys Nest and now no more data collected about you and your home! Oh, it’s still getting collected, you don’t access to it! So not only does the device internals wear out and shut off your heat at the perfect time of the year, endangering your pipes, you get 10% more functionality than a 50 y.o. analog thermostat. So it’s off to Menards I go, to save big money (over a catastrophic plumbing failure…).Version: 5.70.0

Nest app a bit slowSlow.Version: 5.68.0

Ecobee is so much betterI had an ecobee at my last home and now have a nest. I was suffering the first few months with it on learning. It did not seem to be learning anything other than how to switch me to uncomfortable temperatures despite my constantly readjusting to what I wanted and turning eco off. I got frustrated and finally turned off learning and tried to set a manual schedule after finally finding a way to do so. The manual schedule option in the app is a nightmare to work with. I don’t quite know how to describe it but it’s something to do with the annoying need to turn your phone into landscape, scroll, and click and drag. Also, there is a copy week and paste week function that doesn’t seem to work. The schedule shows the days of a week, not multiple weeks, so where is it pasting? After thinking I finally figured out how to manually set a schedule and updating all the days, I’ve now gone back and see all the temperature settings have changed again somehow to settings I would never choose. I live alone, am in my 20s, and have an engineering degree. How have you made something so simple so difficult?.Version: 5.75.0

Perfect eyesight requiredI don’t have the camera, just the central heating bit. Everything seems to work as it was designed to work. We can turn our heating on when we’re out so that the house is warm when we come home on a cold winter’s evening. My only complaint is that when using the App on an iPad, you click on the "Schedule" to adjust the timer settings, all the letters and numbers are so small, I have a real problem focusing on the detail. I’m an OAP with glasses for close up work, but it’s still a struggle to see the characters. I would like the software creators to make it adjustable for people with dodgy eyesight. Then I would probably give it 5 stars. Also, in the "History" section, it would be really helpful to be able to see your history for more than 10 days, like weeks and months, to see your gas usage patterns..Version: 5.60.0
