CodeRED Mobile Alert for Negative User Reviews

Needs “zero” starsThis app needs a major overhaul before I download it again. I don’t know how many times it has alarmed with an emergency that isn’t anywhere near me. Adjusting the settings didn’t help. And can you imagine how annoying it is for the alarm to go off in the middle of the night—with information not even remotely pertaining to me. I have a hard time giving it even one star..Version: 5.1.32

Trash! So apparently there are over 300 alerts in my area. Can’t read any of them. Not one. I signed up thinking I could get notifications on the boil water notice that’s currently happening in my county. Nope, not happening! And yes, a rep from the county’s watershed department said I could get them through the app. Went through the whole sign up process for nothing! If the developer isn’t going to take the time to keep the app up and running properly, then just take it down. And the developer has the nerve to charge for weather updates! Seriously?! I doubt any updates would come through even if I did choose to pay for it. 🙄.Version: 5.1.11

Poor implementation and possible security riskI would rate this app a 0 star if that were possible. Have to register on the website and then separately register the app. The app was recommended by our local E911 director but I don’t think he adequately reviewed it. When I tried to opt out I found that I could opt out of alerts, but there was no mechanism to remove your account data. The opt out site actually says that if you happen to login again, all alerts would be restored. This indicates that your personal information is retained by the company..Version: 5.1.34

Needs workWhoever designed this app did not take into account the design of iPhones. The controls are so far in the corners of every screen that they cannot be used effectively. Almost makes the app useless. Since the update so in frequently, I suspect this is not an app that gets much attention. Too bad..Version: 5.1.11

Not freeNo Canadian warnings, and it costs you..Version: 5.1.5

Needs updated badlyRegistered on my city’s site, and created a profile by signing in with my Google account. However, no option to sign in with a Google account exists in the app. I also know that my city currently has a state of emergency, but it’s not showing in the app. This app doesn’t do what it set out to do, and can’t even connect with a profile created in their own servers..Version: 5.1.32

Active alerts needs to be more customizableWhen I open the app and see 80+ “active alerts” but none of them actually apply to me it’s frustrating. The app is overly alarmist and won’t show you details of active alerts either. Instead you have to expand out to see if alerts are occurring where you plan on going, click on them and then see details. It makes it frustrating to use..Version: 5.1.11

The City, County & State Should Notify You That You Are Being ChargedI downloaded this app and while it was downloading I read some of the comments. When I signed up for this app, I was not told that I would have to pay a fee to use it. While $0.99 per year isn’t that much, the Entity should let you know that you are going to be charged to use this app. If that was done, then I might not have deleted it as soon as it downloaded. I know some cities pay the $0.99 so that you are better protected. Wonder why they all don’t do it??? It’s all about the money, not your life, and that is a real shame!!!!.Version: 5.1.30

Trash... Just TRASH!Absolutely GARBAGE to charge people to know if they’re about to be blow away! There was a tornado siren going off and I didn’t know what was going on (I’m originally from South Florida -so not used to tornados- I didn’t know about the sirens UNTIL TONIGHT) because I couldn’t see the alerts without paying. It took me 15 minutes to scroll through social media to figure out what the sirens were about. Had this app functioned like it was supposed to -allowing me to see alerts in my area- I would have been able to get the information I so desperately needed instead of fumbling around like an idiot trying to figure out what to do..Version: 5.1.11

Not free and not workingDownloaded this app and when my area in Canada tested it, it did not work. Six months later area tested again so tried again and it said I had to resubscribe - at a cost. Not impressed..Version: 4.41

No information! The Bay Area is on fire all over right now and it isn’t showing most of the fires. A 25 mile radius isn’t enough, and there are huge fires 8 miles away that aren’t showing up. You can choose to get alerts for wind, temperature, cold and other things, but there any a specific one for fire. I wouldn’t want to rely on this thing to save my or my loved ones’ lives..Version: 5.1.19

Simply crap! When an app wastes my time making me give away private information to “create an account “ then congratulates me on successfully creating that account…but then continuously tells me I’m unable to login and I should waste more of my time contacting support….time’s up! You’re done! If you can’t figure out this simple step, imagine how reliable the information you’re putting out would be! No thanks!.Version: 5.1.32

No notifications! We had a major storm here last night. Zero notifications from this app! 65 mile per hour winds, hail and rain. If it hadn’t been for another app that I had, we would have been caught in the storm while outside instead of safe in a sheltered area. Our city went to notifications from this app only! At this time it was the WORST decision someone has made! If you could give less than a 1 star I would..Version: 5.1.11

Doesn’t work wellSigned up days ago and went and personalized the settings. Says each day a different number of alerts but no way to see what they are. Checked my phone number, everything is all correct in the app. Just doesn’t seem to let you see anything but a map and no way to open the alerts up to view..Version: 5.1.11

SCAM/HACK4Ur$/Waste of$/time; avoid!!So I downloaded and PAID for the CodeRed app that my county recommended and linked on it’s site. It’s a TOTAL waste of money. It doesn’t allow access to the acct I have created through the county which is the same program/THIS program but online. I had to create/register a NEW account just to find out the two are incompatible. It ALSO has no way to access the Active alerts it has listed nor the message option on the program to read updates. WHAT A WASTE!! It is the most useless app I’ve ever downloaded AND I paid for it!!! I’m very disappointed with the app and even more disgusted that it was recommended for public use when it’s not even compatible with the account I registered with for the online version of this app. I want my wasted money back from this download. I don’t know what to do and am so enraged that I spent money on something that does nothing AND required I Pay annually to have more of NOTHING!! This program is incompatible, incompetent, useless, costly, time wasting, space/memory wasting, a hack to take your funds, disappointing, enraging, nothing like what it claims, lacking in features/operation, A SCAM!!! Wish I could give it NO STARS!!! I’ll delete this and stop leaving negative reviews as soon as I get back my funds wasted here!!!.Version: 5.1.34

Not formatted properlyThe display does not support newer iOS devices and places “functional buttons” beneath the top right and left of the iPhone display. For example, on any given alert, if an audio recording is attached, you cannot access the “play” button. ▶️. Also you cannot access the “back” button in the top left of the display. I emailed them weeks ago….no action taken to update the app. Deleting the app for poor functionality..Version: 5.1.35

Pas gratuitPas gratuit et pourtant Longueuil nous donne le lien pour s'inscrire.Version: 5.1.11

No login via Facebook?I created my account originally through the website using my Facebook login. Then when I switched to the app the app does not let you login using your Facebook. I’m sure you can login using your email which is gleaned from the Facebook login but that’s not the point. Why allow you to sign up with your Facebook but then not to login after that using your Facebook? Ugh..Version: 5.1.11

Used to workI’ve had this app for years for wildfire evacs, I set my personal radius to 25 miles because fires can move fast. This year though, CodeRed hasn’t alerted me even once to fires in my area! I checked my settings, emailed them twice and no help. The alerts sometimes don’t even show up on the map even though the count is in the corner. Like 204 active alerts but you zoom out and nothing is there. Other people have gotten codered alerts for the River Fire but I haven’t! So frustrating!.Version: 5.1.32

Useless! Don’t bother downloading.COMPLETELY USELESS APP!! There’s a brush fire about a mile from our house right now. A friend who lives miles away texted me to tell me there was an evac order level 2 for our area. BUT I GOT NO NOTIFICATIONS FROM THE APP!! I opened the app, and sure enough, there was an alert listed, correctly spotted on the map. But no notification was sent!! 🤬 Yes, I have notifications turned on in the app. Yes, I have notifications allowed for the app from within settings. Yes, my notifications radius includes the location of this fire. But I got no notification. IF I HAD RELIED SOLELY ON THIS APP I WOULD NOT KNOW ABOUT THE EVAC ORDER!! Our county emergency services says we are to use this app, BUT WE CANNOT RELY ON IT. THIS IS LITERALLY LIFE AND DEATH AND THIS APP DOES NOT WORK!!!.Version: 5.1.32

Huh?City website said sign up for CodeRED to get alerts. Clicked link. Registering would not work. Failed each time. Worked connecting via Facebook. odd. Filled in basic profile info. Didn’t say what credentials to use to use moving forward. Ends with page with link to download app. FB info will not work on sane site. Odd. Installed App. App now needs you to completely re-register. Huh? Says that city sign up is completely independent to this app. Huh? Wow, this is insane. Now logged in, App will not show you the supposed active alerts. Not sure what this thing is. Will give it time but the registration process is soooo bad and confusing. The App looks ok but is a brick. Useless. I hope alerts will happen. Who knows..Version: 5.1.34

Très mauvaisCette application n’est pas à point. On s’enregistre mais on est incapable de se brancher que ce soit sur iPhone ou sur iPad. Je ne vous la recommande pas... une seule étoile est très généreux..Version: 5.1.3

Not impressedApparently you can’t just set a location and receive alerts, nope, they want to track your location at all time. Mm-hmm... that’s a nope for me, dawg. Also, they apparently serve “170+” countries but expect everyone to use “miles” lol Lastly, it shows me dozens of alerts are “active” but they’ve actually all hundreds of “miles” away.. why bring them up, then?.Version: 5.1.17

Most useless app I’ve ever installedDownloaded this app per my county’s emergency response team suggestion (and linked on their website) thinking I could get updated fire info since we have a ton of wildfires in the area. And sure, I did... for about an hour last night. Nothing since. Nothing in Oregon, CA or WA. I have “188 local alerts,” but nothing to read or click on. When in a genuine state of crisis or emergency, this is NOT THE APP TO USE. Freaking ridiculous that it’s even been suggested as a resource..Version: 5.1.19

Rudimentary Design, No SupportMy city & county use CodeRED to communicate information and when the recent Marshall Fire threatened my community I promptly signed up on the website. I then discovered this app, downloaded it and tried to sign in. However, the login I created on the website didn’t work. I tried a password reset, which didn’t work, then contacted their support. A week later I still haven’t received a response. I have received an alert on my phone so that part works. However, you can’t immediately see what the alert is and are prompted to open the app and login. You can continue to the app without logging in and as long as you are using location services you can see the alerts in your area so at least you can use it. The app design is very rudimentary. Compare it to any other app that uses a map to convey information close to your location, such as travel booking apps, and it is crude. It is not easy to use and communicates only the essential information. Overall the app does work but there is clearly a disconnect between their online system and the app. Not being able to login is irritating but not getting a response from customer service is unforgivable, especially considering this is an emergency alert app..Version: 5.1.32

No alertsI did not get an alert last week when PD was trying to locate a man with a knife who tried to stab an officer then fled. I only knew because I saw all of the cops in the area. The man then hid in someone’s house in a closet. When he was discovered by the homeowner he tried to stab them. He was caught after that. The ap shows no alerts tonight even though there is a search a few miles away (I saw on a Facebook group site)..Version: 5.1.32

Cannot log inI signed up on the web site on my computer. The web site suggested I install the app on my phone. When I tried to login, it will not recognize the login information I submitted on the web site. Apparently you need to register separately on the app. Don’t waste your time with this app. The web site has your phone number for text alerts..Version: 5.1.11

Mixed BagAs far as I can tell, most of the features of this app are great and the performance seems satisfactory in most areas. It’s not perfect, however. The satellite and RADAR map overlays do not happen, only the street map. I find this totally unacceptable and cannot believe that something like that could be missed in testing. One nice thing about the street map’ though, is that if you go into your account on a computer, you can actually correct where your location is pinpointed. My logging in experience was confusing. First everything was fine, then my credentials were rejected. It turns out that there are two login addresses, apparently for two different parts of the outfit, which is not made clear, is counterintuitive, and, in my opinion, is rather stupid. Getting everything set-up and verified took some persistence, but I managed to do it without turning to Support. About them: I used the provided link in the app settings to tell them about the map problems. My message never reached them, because the server rejected their address. Sounds a bit shady. So, this community alert network that the emergency services of the county that I live in wanted me to sign up with, because we are being surrounded by wildfires, and which, supposedly, millions of people are relying on, doesn’t make sure their app works, doesn’t make it easy to sign up, and may not be on the up-and-up. You’d think they’re in office..Version: 5.1.19

Wasted my money renewing in the past, and again twice today. They are counting on the fact that .99 x2 tries is not enough for a consumer to bother getting refunded. This is a particularly dangerous app if you are counting on it for safety. There is a fire near me that has caused evacuation and whose smoke I can see and smell, and yet it doesn’t show up on the map. Some time back, however, it did wake me up in the middle of the night for an Amber alert..Version: 5.1.11

Needs workHave the map overlay set for “satellite” and it just displays a grey shadow over the standard map... iPhone X running iOS 12.1.4 with latest version app installed. Also, not sure why I need to register a second time on mobile device, I must have reset my password on the website 5 times before I figured that out..Version: 5.1.11

Removal of In App PurchaseThanks for removing the In App Purchase. This will save many lives since this is severe storm and tornado season across the southern states (as we’ve already seen March and the first half of April 2020). I can’t give a 4 or 5 star rating just yet as I just registered but tomorrows weather forecast in my location (central Texas) is calling for severe storms with possible isolated tornados and I will update my review then..Version: 5.1.15

Not working, privacy issueFirst thing that I did not like was that the app wanted to accès my location even when not using the app. This is too much for an app or service I do not trust. Then it constantly displayed errors because of denied access to the location info. And, finally, I cannot log in to it with the credentials that work on their own web site..Version: 4.51

Worthless in northern CaliforniaI would be dead by now if I relied on this app to alert me to danger. We have major fires going on in Sonoma and Napa Counties right now, this app doesn’t even show that there’s a fire in Napa or Sonoma at all. This app says there’s 131 active alerts, yet I’m not allowed to click on them or read any of those alerts Still waiting on customer service to get back to me when I contacted them directly through the app.....Version: 5.1.19

Very unreliableOur county moved to this program a few years ago. This system works well, when it works which is extremely rarely. I have discovered that I have to remove the app and reinstall it once or twice a week for it to work properly. I was told I needed to choose not to delete old alerts during emergencies, so now I have 100’s of alerts that are old and no new alerts, which there should be. This app and system is extremely unreliable and a waste of time. I strongly discourage any emergency service to switch to this or anyone in the public to rely on it to consistently notify you in case of an emergency..Version: 5.1.32

No way to silent community alerts etcAlso no way to change sound for missing person, each type of alert should have different alert. Notification about a picnic happening shouldn’t have an alarm bell going off. I just had to turn off notifications like that for this reason. Best of luck fixing it!.Version: 5.1.34

NOT READY FOR PRIME TIMEI signed up for the service through my local Emergency Management Office. They subscribed our whole county to CodeRED. I have an account through them but the app is not connected to the local CodeRED registration. Why would anyone use two “accounts” for one service. Interestingly though, the competitor service, Everbridge, in adjacent counties does link local registration to their app. Keep up with the competition or you’ll lose market share!.Version: 5.1.11

Could be a great notification system but needs workI downloaded this app after it was recommended by my county. I travel all around the country and thought it would be a good tool for me because often I am in places that I am not familiar with. The alerts seem to come through late in the map overlays especially the radar is so jumpy it doesn’t match up with what other radar apps are showing. I like the concept and I hope that the creators will do work to make this a better app. It seems like a great idea but as of right now this version is not working for me..Version: 5.1.26

Doesn’t show firesInstalled app because CalFire said great tool to be notified of fires. Doesn’t show ANY fires in California— even though California currently has largest fire in nation. AND there’s a 3,500+ acre fire less than 15 miles from my location and it DOESN’T even appear on map. Set to notify me of ANY emergency within 25 miles. Evacuations taking place as I type, but no notice of same on app. Total fail!.Version: 5.1.32

App needs work, but it works-Please make it an option in setting to disable sounds for alerts -Please fix the top interface of the app for iPhone, it bleeds into the notch, time, and battery indicator on iPhone -Please fix notifications to make sure they load quickly and properly, sometimes it glitches and they don’t load in for hours.Version: 5.1.37

Unable to log inI downloaded this app after creating an account on the CodeRED site, but to date I have not been able to login. The app consistently rejects the same username password combination that works on the web. Avoid the app. #FAIL.Version: 3.002

Settings don’t workOk I would feel more confident in the app if settings worked correctly. I selected the Yelper alert sound and I received an alert using the “grating” Bell sound for a flash flood alert. I checked & it was still on Yelper the whole time. Now this sounds like a minor complaint but we just had a 16.5 billion disaster here and it would be good to be able to select a sound that allows you to remain calm and doesn’t get your heart racing & blood pressure up again=-0 Just my 2 cents. PS... a warning is definitely better than no warning so please just make sure the app settings work, Thanks.Version: 5.1.11

Worthless!Have this app 3 days now and did not receive alerts for golf ball sized hail nor for 🌪️ that went on in our area, but an alert for severe thunderstorm I did. I see over 300 active alerts, but cannot open them. If I click on an alert icon on the map it opens it, click on the ℹ️ and get the info, but then I cannot use the “back” button… doesn’t work either. What is the point of this app if it just doesn’t work? This doesn’t even deserve 1 star. I’ll stick with other free apps that does..Version: 5.1.35

Poorly ImplementedThe concept is a good one, but the definition of ‘emergency’ is poorly thought out. The two alerts I’ve received (with a jarring ‘red alert’ sound) did not apply to my area, and were not remotely emergencies. The last one I got was a notice that a *private road in another town* had not been maintained well enough for the town to plow it...how would that apply to me, or anyone not living on that road? Perhaps I’ll try it again if the signal-to-noise ratio improves..Version: 5.1.20

Useful?I installed app while displaced by a fire. I thought it might provide info since the local authorities were unable or unwilling to provide any info and the news reporting had no updates in 2 days. Because i was 11 miles from home and fire, the fire was not mentioned even in searches. The app provided info about the small shower that went near the motel. After returning home, i got an alert that a tornado had passed by 20 minutes prior. Later, I received an alert 15 minutes after a damaging hailstorm had already come and gone. Another damaging hailstorm and no alert. Maybe some day in the future it would be useful but for now, better to open eyes and look around!.Version: 5.1.35

Half baked systemI just want to know if I need to not park in the street because of a snow “emergency”, even if I’m away from home. You can’t really do this. You can enroll online for both SMS and phone calls, but I only want SMS. And with the app you can do a radius alert, but that catches everything within that radius. If I’m away from home I get the wrong alerts. If I’m at home, I get alerts for stuff of no relevance. Oh, I just noticed my town has a winter parking ban listed as “Community” while the next town over has the exact same ban listed as “Emergency”. Um... P.s. app crashes with ease.Version: 5.1.11

Please readWhy aren't there any warnings in Canada ever.Version: 4.41

Major bugsThey need to work the bugs out I have had 4 active alerts since I started the app(I’d say 30 min so far) and I cannot see any alerts…none…and when I started the app it was 72, now since I got through this review it is at 78? If there is 78 active alerts it would be peachy to be able to see what an active alert is trying to tell me, I haven’t seen the pay version of this app yet but won’t be going anywhere near it if this is what the app generates.Version: 5.1.32

FrustratedThere is no specific option just for wildfires like there are for floods, hurricanes or tornadoes. And I can’t actually see the emergency symbols to read the information on my Apple phone. I have tried deleting, reloading, changing the settings, and updating my phone but the symbols just won’t load. This is incredibly frustrating during a time of emergency and trying to track evacuations statuses!! CodeRed needs to do better if they are providing an emergency service..Version: 5.1.32

Alerts don’t loadOur county recommended this app. Alerts go off but then don’t load, so you know “something” is happening but God help you the app won’t tell you what. Seems from the ratings the developers should be aware how poorly it functions, curious they haven’t addressed the issues, it doesn’t seem that hard. So I keep it on my phone for alerts then look elsewhere to see if anything is going on - most of the time, nothing is happening. Boo..Version: 5.1.32
