Buggy SoftwareI realize bugs don’t affect everyone, hence the good reviews by some, but this is a pretty horrendous bug. So my deskjet 2700 series I setup with no problems the first time. We switch internet service providers and it “breaks” the printer. Apparently (this makes no sense to me) the first time you setup the software is fine and guides you through all the steps. The 2nd time if it has already been setup and is switching, the setup software does NOT tell you to press the “i” button on your computer to proceed the FIRST time you are supposed to do this. It does the 2nd time, but the setup manual just says “Follow the steps HP Smart guides you through” so if you don’t recollect this step from the first time you setup the printer (when it properly walked you through “not press the “i” button when flashing) what happens is the “i” button starts flashing, possibly you realize it, possibly not while waiting for the software to “guide you”, and if you don’t hit it, instead of telling you to hit the “i” button or giving an error that says “Error: Info button not pressed” it just times out and says “An unexpected error occurred.” and asks you to try again, make sure you are within range of WiFi and connected, etc. This is simply the software team not testing their software (probably did not have the budget/hours to test properly) and then not updating and fixing this bug when reported (not enough hours/budget from Corporate)..Version: 9.4

Stopped workingI liked the app and was helpful especially when away due to many medical issues that I have to be in the hospital. I’m able to print from hospital for my family even on the out of town hospital stays. Suddenly the app stopped working. I thought it was because needed to update my phone with the new ios15 but I was wrong. It still won’t work. I deleted the app and reinstalled and now it wont let me get pass the agreement page. I can use the back button but won’t go forward. Very upsetting. I’m thinking about switching brands if I can’t get this app to work and find a company that has a printer with app I can get logged into. The printer is useless if we can’t print from it. Between my kids school, my medical stays where I need the access and my husbands job having a working printer is a must. Tried to contact the app developer but sent me to a web page and it only wanted to help with purchases items. The app is not purchasing so it wouldn’t let me contact at least on that page it sent me too..Version: 8.11.1

Good when it worksWhen it works it’s a great app. Helps you get the printer set up etc but it has too many flaws where you’re trying to print a document say from a pdf and it prints a few pages then just stops and it hasn’t printed off the whole thing and you’ve got to do it again but you can’t seem to print only certain pages it has to be the whole document so it goes over it again and fails part way through again and it does it loads of times and eats through not just valuable ink but also your paper allowance when signed up to hpinstaink. It is massively frustrating. It’s not what I would call acceptable. However, when it is working ok, the printing quality is exceptional. The whole order ink thing it does is good although it takes a long time to arrive. But the new cartridges are good quality and last a long time. So overall the app is good but what I would refer to as a fault with the printing, it will cost you money and your paper allowance. Plus it causes undue stress..Version: 8.1

Incredibly frustrating POSIf printer is not used on a regular basis it disconnects from wifi, goes to sleep, won’t wake up when prompted and the inkheads dry out so I end up wasting my time trying to get this darn printer to work………..Version: 16.5.1.2557

Overly complicated - takes your informationImpossible to plug in, set up, and print. App (which takes all your information by accessing your files, otherwise won’t work), makes you jump through 17 more hoops than is necessary to print a document. Don’t waste your time with HP products - a disappointment of the highest order. I hope whoever signed off on this fleet of printers and this unnecessary app are ashamed. This is what textbooks refer to when they say ‘over-designed’. Printers don’t need to connect to all your files and store your info... they need to print. I’m not even going to return my printer or sit through rounds of troubleshooting or customer retention with HP. I’m going to revel in the unfettered joy and satisfaction of throwing my deskjet into a quarry. I’m not even going to donate it or resell it. NOBODY deserves to suffer like I have..Version: 8.5.1

Complicated, fiddly and frustratingSetting up the HP Deskjet 2721 printer has taken me a whole evening. I wanted it to print from my windows laptop as well as from my iPhone. Each step was tortuously baffling with many dead-ends. The virtual assistant was also pretty useless. I’m not sure if it’s working fully yet but have managed to print a few documents now from both devices so it’s probably ok. Can’t face setting up the scanner tonight as well - too exhausted from all the hassle. Also, the power cord connection to the printer is flimsy as hell and the power stopped several times due to the wobbly connection. And the first few printed pages were very patchy and streaked. So all in all I’m pretty disappointed with this printer and wish I had bought something different..Version: 8.5.1

I’m only writing a review because they keep asking me to write a review so I’ll be honestI’m not one to write reviews because I don’t care enough but since the app wanted me to write a review so bad here you go. This app/printer is terrible. Every time, not once not twice, EVERY TIME I try to print something with this app it can’t find my printer. Every single time I have to reset the connection on the printer or restart the app on my phone because for some odd reason the app can’t find the flipping printer ever. If this only would happen occasionally that would be a different story but no this happens every time. It’s my grandparents printer so every time they need something printed I need to do it because there’s no way they could figure it out. The app is supposed to be easy, which it is, only if it could actually find the printer the first time. They need to update the app so that it works with the printer most of the times (note I didn’t say always just most of the times please) instead of me having to screw with this printer every time they need something printed. Hint: I only said the word screw because I’m sure Apple wouldn’t like the f word. Do better developers!!.Version: 8.1

Hello?? listen to our issues!!I used to be able to change the color options to print in black/white or color. but for some reason, that option is no longer there. i've last used the b/w option because i didn't need any color at the time. now i'm stuck with b/w with no option to change it. however, fortunately, that option is available when i use a pc to access hp smart. but it's so inconvenient to turn on my pc for a simple document that i can pull up on my phone. so basically, the hp smart app for iphone/ipad is useless, unless i'm printing in b/w. the only answer you get from their support is to go to the color option and switch from b/w to color. but it's a useless answer because that option is LITERALLY not there! that's what their support is not understanding! there is probably some bug/glitch that needs to be fixed, the option to change colors/bw print is not there! i've watched the yt videos from hp themselves on how to change the printing colors on the hp smart app and i wish the option was there and i know it was ONCE there, but it isn't there anymore!! i was frustrated for a whole hour before i decided to use my pc instead..Version: 9.6.1

HP sign in now required just to scan a documentApp was fine until version 12.9.0 which now requires that you sign into an HP account to scan a document on your own printer and computer in your own network. Arbitrary and unnecessary privacy encroachments described as “bug fixes” and “minor changes” erode trust. There is absolutely no justification for requiring HP sign in just to scan documents. Up until recently HP sign in was only for “exciting features to enhance the printing experience”. No idea what they were and had no interest. Scanning documents is entirely different. Will be returning the printer and never buying an HP peripheral again if not reversed..Version: 8.7

Convoluted and confusing!!After 50 minutes with your operator, he did not understand several issues with my new printer, he could not find the printer email address, he refused to diagnose problems I'm having with a brand-new printer and told me I would have to call back for the information. He told me he was going to further investigate problems his end and when I asked him to explain that, he told me he would look into it. I told him that I did not believe him and that he has spent more than 50 minutes trying to resolve this issue and he has not helped other than to thoroughly confused himself. I then told him I will record his next comments as he was being evasive. l I asked him his name and his location, he started pretending he was having problems with his handset and cut me off. HP Instant Ink Can Burn in You Know Where!!!I cannot even begin to express my absolute SEETHING hatred of the HP Instant Ink subscription you practically force onto the poor schmucks that buy your printers. I’ve already spent a decent amount of money buying a printer from (what I thought) was a reputable brand and now I can’t even consistently use it?!?! I absolutely loved my previous HP! But the hunk of garbage I had to purchase when my old one went out has me swearing off the HP brand going forward. The fact that you LOCK MY ABILITY TO PRINT BECAUSE I DIS-ENROLLED FROM YOUR SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE is just absolutely insane to me. I don’t rent this printer from you, I own the dang thing! I should be able to use whatever friggin cartridges I want (again, THAT I PAID FOR!!!) without having my printer lock me out of printing documents. Then, to top it all off, you have to spend an hour troubleshooting and updating account info just to print off a single frickin’ page! Whoever dreamed up this garbage rip off of your customers can join the Instant Ink subscriptions in you know where. Awful app. Absolute TRASH! Forces you to log in and share everything you print with HP.App is less friendly than previously. You actually are REQUIRED to log in to scan using the app. No background printing, you need to leave the app running while printing - 1980s style. Seems they watch whatever you print, SSNs, financials, etc. Check out the App Privacy section in the app’s description below - incredibly intrusive and invasive tracking and data collection on you and your phone. The HP Printer app has 8 data categories tracked, Epson has 1 necessary tracker, Brother has 2. This app is like a phishing email. And it requires compliance with an intrusive End User License Agreement before it lets you print. If you actually read it, the new EULA is extremely invasive, & cedes all rights to HP and leaves users with little to no privacy in printing or user rights. No option to opt out that I could see. The HP Smart app WAS useful in the past, but this new version requires accepting an invasive EULA to launch. Spyware so they can sell your data, including whatever you print. It’s TRASH..Version: 9.7.2

When you say you offer mobile fax You should mean itI’ve been wasting my time and energy getting very frustrated while being stuck home very ill with my second bought with Lyme in less than 15 months and thought I’d give this mobile fax a try. Big mistake since stress makes Lyme so much worse and I am disappointed that I had to just give up. I have an IPhone XS Max and plenty of options like acrobat and Adobe to condense files into whatever PDF or dox is needed for faxing but nothing is working for the “so called easy to use fax” option and it has a mind of its own and just picks out a screenshot that I have no interest in faxing anymore and I have been dealing with severe symptoms for over two weeks now. I have no more time to play games with this shoddy fax system. In the past I never had problems with all the other options they provide but faxing using your Apple phone is futile. Perhaps someone would be so kind to guide me through the process since I’m in a difficult position. I would appreciate it more than you could understand. Thank you.Version: 8.6.0

Very poorThis app doesn’t work properly I have used the built in printing app on iPhone and iPad to print. I bought the printer a year ago and then it wouldn’t work properly after a firmware update stopped working and said there’s an issue with the cartridges even though they are the ones that came with the printer. Support is useless all it seems to do is push the subscription for the ink. I don’t want a subscription from Hp. Would not buy from Hp again. It installed a scanner printer,( Hp envy 6020 multifunctional printer in other words all in one!) it then tells me I need a colour cartridge, I have just put one in. Plus on the Mac it automatically try’s to send a fax, useless! I can’t believe the lack of support from hp I went onto their website and told them it’s trying to send a fax which I don’t need I just want to print something NOT FAX! I still haven’t sorted out scanning and saving to my Mac, it says that there’s a connection problem + keeps on adding another printer to I presume FAX! Printing difficultyI find that I waste so much time trying to troubleshoot the printer and actually get it to print. As I write this message, I am currently trouble shooting. I was under the impression that hpinstantink service was meant to ensure availability of ink and make printing more efficient. It has actually been much more complicated than going to the shops and buying a new cartridge. I’m not sure of the benefit of a monthly plan when I waste hours trying to print a document..Version: 9.7.2

Hellishly difficult to setup an Envy 6020eThere are no basic instructions! It took me 5 minutes to pluck up the courage to open the top and put the ink cartridges in. The top is so stiff that I was concerned that I might break it. It took me another 20 to find out where to load paper. Then my problems really started: the printer resolutely refused to find my Wi-Fi for 3 hours. When I did finally get the printer to link up with my MacBook Air I printed a test page successfully then I photocopied it and the printer lost contact with the laptop! I managed to reconnect eventually after two retries and then spent another half hour and three tries to connect my iPhone. Fortunately I only have two devices to connect..Version: 8.10.1

Disappointed customerI have always been able to print from my phone or laptop to my printer, but now I cannot get it to connect to WiFi without having a modem. Before it used its own WiFi but now will not connect via this. I understand Microsoft are making it impossible to continue using Windows 7 , but was very disappointed in HP seeming to also put restrictions on my Laptop and Printer which are both HP products..Version: 9.7.2

I hate this printerI bought this having happily used HP printers for over 30 years! This one is driving me mad. ‘SMART” - it’s anything but. One minute I can print from my iPad - next I can’t without going back through the HP app and signing in again. It has no way of requesting ‘double sided’ from the iPad - though my previous 552 all in one could easily - so I am wasting paper. It works best if I forward what I want to print to my very old desktop, and print from there. Not overly impressed with this ‘smart ink’ system either.. I’ve no idea when cartridges might be cominG. I wish my old printer would print in black (as well as colour) - but it stopped printing black and lots of comments on the web suggested this was a common fault in older printers. What a shame and a waste of a printer. Hp printing has gone from OK to totally the worse.From being able to choose what, where and how to print your school, work or personal projects at home after buying a printing and the ink, hp had taking control and charge extras fees for every single thing possible and if it's not posible to squeeze more money out of you they come up with something, and on top of you choosing to buy an hp printer and hp ink now they even charge you por the number of pages you print each month and on top of that they keep your laptop, tablet or phone monitoring day and night, and on top of all the points mentioned before on this review now they charge you for black and white pages or color pages, my question is what is next for hp? Having control of my gadgets, my printer that I bought for me to used as I wish and where and when I wish, they will probably thinking on controlling how many letters we print? Very DissapointedI am very disappointed with the ink program. Upon starting I received two large cartridges. I didn’t print out ten pages when the color cartridge would not work. I kept getting an error message and though I would be contacted by HP. Then a week later my son needed something printed out for school. I would up going to the store and purchasing an ink cartridge so he could do his assignment. My credit card I used for the ink program expired about the same time and I did not respond to the emails they sent me regarding payment due and found out quickly that they take over your printer and you cannot use it until you are paid up. So all in all I’m paying them even though the cartridge they sent me was very short lived. I guess I’ll have to call them up and find out when I can get out of this program without them shutting down my printer. This program is nothing like I expected and in the long run I am paying much more than if I had just purchased cartridges from a local store..Version: 7.0

Sleek but AwfulI logged in, which all on its own was not the best because multiple times it gave me an error message that was the equivalent of “something went wrong” without any explanation, after struggling with the app for 20min it finally connected at which point the instructions, which are repetitive and clear as mud, were to close the printer door which I did admittedly closed the wrong door and struggled for another 5 minutes. Finally, after going through all that the printer printed the first side of my sheet fine and then proceeded to print some sort of HP tester page on the other side (it held no information by the way) so I reprinted that sheet and moved on to the next which printed the first side fine but for the back side IT PRINTED IN TINY FONT I never figured out why, never changed the settings, never moved anything but the sheets and this happened twice then it printed the sheet right but was missing parts at the bottom so I tried again and yet again it printed in tiny font and then I ended up using 2 sheets of paper which for what ever reason worked and finally finished it up after and hour of struggle (this process started at 9:40 and ended at 11:10). I’ve struggled before with other hp stuff and the customer service are awful and I will NEVER be buying from these people again..Version: 8.2.1

TerribleHonestly this app give me rage. You have to keep signing in every time. It keeps asking if you want to buy ink and you can’t get out of it. AppaulingAbsolutely dreadful. It won’t install from my PC by USB or wifi. I had it working briefly from my laptop but then when I changed the cartridges with the ones sent to me by HP it said there was an error and that they were store bought cartridges and refused to print for me. Now the only way I can print is using my iPhone and that is only now and then. This is by far and away the worst piece of rubbish I have ever bought. It’s not as if I don’t know what I’m doing I am an IT professional. Hang your head in shame HP. I wish I could give negative stars. I bought this tack to replace my old HP all in one (Laserjet MFP M175nw) - which has lasted me faithfully for 13 years. Why can’t you make kit like this anymore? The worst app ever!This is the worst app ever and the worst customer service! If I knew that HP printers are so bad I wouldn’t have spent my money on it! Absolutely ridiculous! I’m printing 3 pages then it disconnects from the network. I’m trying to print from my iPad but 90% of the time the ipad won’t find the printer even though they’re on the same wifi network. The HP smart app is useless, just an interface that is sending you to login on different websites, you can not check the status of your cartridges or how many pages you’ve got left on your monthly plan without being sent to different webpages! Also there’s no settings option for double sided printing on the app. Do not spend your money on HP printers or products. Go for another brand! I would give this app 0 stars if I could!.Version: 9.4

Great potential, but user experience needs improvementThis is a great printer and the AirPrint features make it really convenient. However, the printer or app have great difficulty in together holding a wifi signal such that they recognise each other. I can print over the air from my computer just fine. I never have an issue. However if I’m sat in exactly the same location and want to scan something, the app needs to connect to the printer. Well this routinely failed. It took over an hour to try and scan 3 pages. In the end I gave up. Before you blame it on my Wi-fi...I have a rock solid signal everywhere in my house. My computer, phone and printer all seem to work fine....all the time. The issues start when I need to use this app to scan something. When I manage to get it to connect. It drops the connection half way through scanning the first page. Overall, the printer is great. But this app needs improvement. It needs to work. Like others have said, it needs to be more intuitive and let you know what it’s trying to do so users don’t think it’s frozen. And it needs to sort out this connectivity issue with the printer. I.Version: 8.5.1

How do I change wifi connection?Recently got a new modem, which means new network name (SSID). Wow, I didn’t know how many devices I have now that would be impacted by that. Made the change in the vacuum cleaner, it was straightforward. Even the sprinkler controller could do this without a hassle. And the HP printer app? Has never heard of this situation. Looked it up online, LOTS of hits (in other words, lots of people with the same problem), a few suggestions for hacks to erase the settings and start over as if it’s a new printer, none of which worked for me. The initial setup was clunky, support for making changes after setup is non-existent, I’m basically just going to end up doing any future configuration through the printer’s four-inch touch screen, and this app seems mainly designed to encourage me to use up my toner cartridges so I have to buy more. Why am I giving it two stars instead of one? Well, the original setup was… easy-ish. Not as easy as other similar apps I’ve used, but reasonably straightforward. I’ve loved HP printers for forever, but when it comes to the wi-if connection, they REALLY need to up their game..Version: 8.5.1

Great printing app...but...I absolutely love this printing app, it has great features for cropping, resizing etc BUT it's major downfall (hence the 3 stars) is the "Please wait on this screen until job is sent". This is the most frustrating part of an app that I have ever used, having to keep the phone awake and stay in the app until it has finished printing all the pages. You can't put your phone down and do something else whilst waiting in fear that the phone locks and the printing cancels and spits out a half printed document or picture. Please please please developers can you sort this out, your app is worth a full 5 stars but the 'please wait...' screen is its major downfall and almost makes it unusable for larger documents or multiple prints..Version: 11.0.1

Don’t do it!This is the most frustrating app known to mankind. I’ve literally spent hours trying to log into the app! I chatted with HP support and they remoted in, which meant I had to install yet another app. Then they wanted access to my PC, even though the app is in my iPad. I don’t own a PC. Weird experienceThe app was fantastic and I used it extensively for scanning documents to be saved as pdf’s BUT all of a sudden it stopped offering the option to save as PDF and would only save in a photo format. I tried to uninstall it hoping it would work properly after I reinstalled it. But for some reason it doesn’t uninstall and will not open or do anything it I try to launch it. Such a shame as I’ve been looking for just this type of app but unfortunately it doesn’t work and cannot be uninstalled..Version: 8.5

Awful printer/app combo.Seems intentionally obtuse. It is so hard to connect wifi to printer. Troubleshooting is a nightmare. Having to print pages for info is asinine when you have an app on your phone for troubleshooting..Version: 16.0.1

Scanning and EnailingMy review score of three stars reflects a frustration with HP. When I first bought my Office Jet Pro 9015 about three years ago, the scanning app had this nice email feature, which was quick and simple. I would scan and immediately had the option to email, at which point it would load an email with the attachment. All I needed to do was address it and send. Now, If I want to email a scanned document, I need to scan the document, save to my desktop, go to Outlook, draft a new email, go back to my desktop and attach the newly saved pdf file. Some brilliant mind at HP thought I would enjoy pointing and clicking my mouse all afternoon. Another option would be for me to create an address book in the app. Why on earth would I waste my time doing that? I don’t know what motives your marketing crew, but it sure does not seem like it’s user-friendliness. Otherwise you would have left the app alone so people like me could direct our frustrations toward other tech companies, like Microsoft..Version: 9.4

HP 6200 series with new updatesI rarely have a problem with this printer until now. I normally use my iPhone with go smart. Since the updates I’m getting error codes the AirPrint is freezing when I tap on the HP computer and if I try to use the updated HP smart app their is only two paper sizes to choose from. And I haven’t found the place where to unjust this if it’s at all possible..Version: 9.6.1

Horrible and deceptive.Both the computer app and the phone app took multiple tries to connect - an hour of my life lost to watching a spinning wheel. But the kicker is the privacy settings: you are given a toggle bar where one side is white and the other is blue. Which one turns on the device tracking? Your guess is as good as mine. So I looked online (nope) tried to chat with a HP help bot (nope) and eventually called HP. They wanted my personal info as well as my serial number to help me (yes to the serial number, nope to my info). Surprise surprise after several attempts to get my personal info they attempted to answer my privacy settings question without my personal info (the irony of this was lost on the representative). The HP rep said “gray” is off. But my choices were white or blue. The rep was unsure if white or blue was gray. Her directions didn’t say left or right, just gray. So I asked which setting is the default and she wasn’t sure either. So I picked the default, white, in the hopes that means HP isn’t tracking my use and selling my info but who knows. Thanks HP for filling out my review! (Need B&W support in photos!Everything in brackets appeared when I pressed ‘Review’, including my name! Seems like HP is gaming the system! I’ve had HP apps on computers before “smart phones” and they had some benefits. I could see how much ink was available and how many copies made etc. This app is totally useless. Ink supplies simply sends me to an Internet page for ordering supplies every other function is unnecessary for me. It does not relate to the printer I own and run and offers no feedback on the actual operation of my can my printer. Contrary to the instructions you do not need the app on every smart device you own in order to print. Cartridge Hostage CrisisI have had my HP7850 for about 1.5 years. In that time I have printed a small number of documents. Some for school and some personal. I am on my third set of cartridges due to printer not working properly. The tech support had me run several cleaning cycles to get it online the first time. It wasted all my ink on cling on a new printer. After that I could not even print black and white because the color cartridge was out of ink. I’m on my fourth set of cartridges, and have barely printed anything. And there is a problem with the color cartridge. If I print quickly after reinstalling, then it prints. If I wait a couple minutes the printer reports an error with the cartridge on the printer and my phone app says the color is out. Obviously it is not out. This is due to the computer chips on the ink so HP can hold you hostage and rake in money selling you cartridges that cost them pennies to produce. Give me a printer from 10 years ago. I did not have these issues. The technology hasn’t changed much mechanical for a long time. It’s all in the software..Version: 7.1

Far too basic an app for a market leading printer brandI have had HP smart for a while now and although it works fine as far as connecting to my printer, it is very VERY basic. It may be a ‘free’ app but considering its a proprietary one for use with HP printers, it is far below the standard where it needs to be. Printing multiple pages per sheet is impossible and I think that is a necessary feature, for environmental reasons as well as cost saving ones. I need to print long academic documents with photos and cannot justify the use of so much paper and ink that 1 page per sheet would use. As more and more professionals move to depend on iPads for work, these kind of features are an imperative! I also do not get a warning on my iPad if the print job pauses due to low ink or no paper, and for printing on WiFi that is a key requirement for me. I could be far from the printer, thinking the print job has gone ahead, but when I go to collect what should be a sizeable printed document a few minutes later, it hasn’t printed for one reason or other and I end up wasting time while I wait for it to print. This may be a ‘home printing’ targeted app but this year has proven that working from home is normal and more common than ever. iOS apps need to be able to compete with the functionality offered by a basic laptop printer driver, and in comparison, this is pretty much useless..Version: 8.2.1

Upgraded after reading improvedThe intermittent connection onthe upgrade from an HP5540 to an Officejet 8010 series was clearly just a marketing ploy as nothing has changed. If you don’t use the printer for a week or so be prepared to have to waste time getting it all working again due to connectivity issues despite nothing changing. So fed up with HP and its unreliability now. Same goes for instant ink, had three printers on it, my daughters (Uni) not received cartridges for around two years due to connectivity issues and so cancelled the contract, £70+ for no ink, and they then disable the cartridges in the printer. Ever feel conned. At that cost they should have sent some out but fair is not what HP do. Number of times I run out of ink due to a splurge of printing and then have to wait around two weeks for the ink I pay monthly for to arrive is a joke. That is why I am always in credit on the pages I print, really poor service.I currently have 900 pages owing with 276 credit left for this month,over 1,000 pages and no replacement cartridges to ensure if I print what I am owed I don’t run out of ink!.Version: 11.0

Doesn’t stays connectedI have my HP laser jet for little over a year now. The only way of using it it is through this useless app. I’ve changed my broadband provider and suddenly all connections gone. Deleted and installed several times in my Mac and iPhone. None worked. Spend most of my working time with fixing it for two weeks. Eventually on my fifth call to helpline fixed it. Then ones I changed my Wi-Fi password, all the connection settings gone again. This time was worst than previous. Experienced this kind of disconnects several times and each time was worst than previous. Non previous fixing techniques worked with next one. It gone up to split the broadband signals to two different GHz’s. Tried to connect with wire-it does not work that way too. Couple of times I barely stopped myself from crushing to pieces the printer, it drove me nuts. Additionally almost every few days the app forgets me, not other devices in use or connected. So each time I have to log in again and again. HP does very good devices but is terrible with softwares like this app, keeps downgrades . AcceptableWhy do you have to have an online account in order to scan from the printer to my phone? Both devices are able to communicate with Bluetooth and with wifi. At least it works. Can’t sign in or create a new accBeen using this app for many years, no drama’s. Recently stopped because of the sudden sign out of my HP account. I have been struggling to sign back in as the webpage is no longer available and cannot create a new account as I come across the same issue. I have a HP printer and having the app makes it easier and convenient to use but with the current situation I’m planning on getting rid of the app and possibly the printer as well. Limited printing optionsThe printer I’ve got is definitely capable and built well enough with the features I needed when I purchased it. The app that is developed for mobile use (this app) is by far the most frustrating experience every single time I go to use it! If my phone falls asleep (screen goes dark) the print job will terminate mid print. You’re not able to do anything else on your phone (if someone calls you’ve got to ignore it) and the absolute worst part is that you CAN NOT print more than five copies at a time AND you can’t print two items on one page!!! So far I have printed 70+ wedding invitations on card stock and could only do five at a time. Then pull those, flip them, put them back in to the paper receiving tray just to print FIVE more again (two invites fit on one page). There’s zero customer service for options or to call and get a clear answer on how to fix this and it seems the virtual agent from this app only gives you options on what you can ask- one being literally, “Save the planet.” Are you kidding me?! Does not workI have always had HP printers. They came with good software and worked. My current printer from HP is a mess but this app is even worse gets in the way when I want to print without their special software because it works better that way, but sometimes the only choice that I’m having is to use their software, I’m probably going to uninstall that software, and then the printer might work again. It’s hard to imagine that a company like they used to make really good printers and excellent software on with it but get this bad it came with no instructions for set up except a few stick pig figure pictures I need words I don’t read pictures. And addition this software does nothing and does not work doesn’t even do what they tell you it would do. ReviewFirst off the pop-up that “suggested” I download the app froze my screen so that I could no longer access my photo roll etc and even when I proceeded to download and install the app the pop-up remained in place thus blocking access to My Photos. I had to reboot the phone. Ok now I start using the app to resize some photos so that they would actually be visible. Although I quickly navigated to the resize function there was no obvious way of previewing the resized image - if there is a means to preview it ain’t looking me in the face which is what it should be doing - printing photos is ink-heavy as it is without introducing sort of Russian roulette to the outcome. Please add a preview function to the app or at least put a button within the editing screen. While you’re about improving the buttons try improving the “feel” so that one definitely discerns when a function has been selected. Piece of shipI keep falling for HP printers.. it’s been about 10 years since I threw out the last one and swore never again for how complicated absolutely everything was, I spent more time trying to connect to networks than the time it took to print a sheet of paper. Trying to report a bug but no customer support (paid subscriber too!)I literally go in circles trying to get Last Pass to Autofill passwords. I open my web browser or app I’m trying to sign in to, sign in that way, then am prompted to sign in to the Last Pass App, then when I do I get taken back to my browser where I am promoted to sign into Last Pass again, then get diverted back to sign in on the Last Pass app. Round and round in circles so I’ve given up and just open the Last Pass app, and copy paste my sign in details. Do NOT recommendThe printer comes with many weird bugs and glitches. for me, one of the main factors i find strange is the fact that customer support is close to none when contacting hp. very unhelpful and difficult to find and contact. secondly, its the fact that i am being charged around £27 - £29 pounds some months even though my ink plan is the £2.99 plan and i don’t even use the printer that often! i am yet to receive clarification to what the hell is charging me so much. if i had known the cons that come with this printer i wouldn’t have wasted my time, money and patience buying it at all. when printing, a large majority of the paper used is WASTED due to the way the printer forces you to always have a thick white border when printing, something which is extremely annoying especially when printing out photos on actual printer paper which isn’t cheap in some cases. this alongside all the effort spent cutting off them annoying white borders is an absolute waste of time and complete annoyance. to add to that, the quality of the printer is horrible and most of the time comes out blurry or with a thick layer of ink which wipes off when you touch it almost like a dust. if you are looking to buy a printer, please do not make the mistake of getting this one..Version: 15.0.1

Updates but no improvementI pay for 50 pages a month. ive lost count of the number of times i’ve placed a document on the printer to scan and get the ‘printer unavailable’ message. If i reset the home wifi to HP Envy (my printer) suddenly it is recognised i can scan my doc. As soon as i reinstate my home wifi the printer has vanished. It’s a joke. And a bloody poor one at that. While i’m at it, who thought that when i’m scanning a series of documents to a PDF the message ‘Replace or keep’ makes any sense when ‘replace’ actually adds the next doc to the previous file rather than replacing it. It’s confusing until you get used to HP’s wacky terminology. If i’m scanning in several docs to one PDF surely i would add subsequent docs rather than replace them? Usb printing is a jokeFor some ridiculous reason usb printing is now 100 times harder to use then wireless, literally doesn’t make any sense. Attempted to setup a m29w on Mac, I installed Hp easy, which actually recognizes the printer through usb which is great! But the hp easy program then gets locked in a screen requiring you to get hp smart app to finish setting up your printer. That’s also ridiculous because I just installed a program thinking it would setup my printer but all it does is redirect you to another app that sets your printer up. Why not remove the fricken hp easy program then!? Especially because it’s listed on HP’s website as the program you NEED to use to setup your printer on Mac. Then in setting up a new printer in hp smart it just doesn’t recognize the printer through usb, I sat here for an hour watching the spinning circle while it tried to recognize the device. Meanwhile the hp easy easily recognized the printer instantly and even in printers and scanner setting on the Mac the printer shows up as plugged in through usb. My only problem is HP is REQUIRING the use of hp smart app basically and it doesn’t even work as good as hp easy?.Version: 8.5

FrustratingFrustrating to set up. Took forever to work out how to print with the printer. No where doe it tell you about a password. Eventually found it in the tiny screen that when you touch it goes off into something else because my fingers are larger than the places you need to touch. Took me almost an hour to get it to print. Ended up direct printing by connecting via my iPad. Still not got it working on my Mac. Why do I have to print via the app! Grrr. Cannot print black and whiteNot sure why this keeps happening, but every now and then, the option to select between colour and greyscale printing just disappears. This happens on both my iPhone and iPad. Not good serviceI installed and subscribed and it printed ok but after I unsubscribed from instant ink and replace it with hp ink from a retailer it saying that I have cartridge problems. Pretty rubbishy appIf you’re subscribed to the “instant ink” scheme one of the most important things to know is how many pages you have printed, particularly when you’re getting near to the end of the month. However we have a 2600 series printer and either due to the printer or lack of function on the app, or perhaps both the app loses contact with the printer and although to all intents and purposes it tries to convince you it is communicating with the printer it obviously isn’t! It is just guessing. What seems to happen is the printer seems to go into some sort of suspended animation state and the app comes up with a tick by the printer and an estimate of the state of the cartridges. It DOES NOT show the link to the instant ink “function” so there is no way you can see how many pages you have used, nor the estimate of when any new cartridges are due to arrive. This is stupid! The user needs to know how many pages they have printed in the month and therefore whether they are going to get billed for more..Version: 6.0

Spend more time configuring than printingYou always spend more time you don’t have to spare to configuring and creating accounts and saving those accounts on a notebook you don’t have at hand. Then you need to wait on another time were you have free time to focus on configuration and accounts. Just to print one page. On windows is worst were sooner or later you have problems with a driver and need to reconfigure. Where are the engineers? Stop making trash. I want a single button to print and that’s it! No accounts. No nothing. A single button to print. To spend 2 seconds to print. Not 20 minutes. I will not make an account and if I did I don’t remember it. I can no longer print with this app because I won’t spend my time creating another account. I used the time for the review. A definite unintall after review. Hopefully a higher hierarchy manager read this and order to enable a big button to print without accounts. Network password and printer should be the only thing to enter only the first time and local storage it on user’s device app. Less than 4kb text storage. Easy. I wanted to see a single first top centered big button labeled “Simple Print”..Version: 9.2

It works but it wastes your timeYou can feel HPs stranglehold rather than them enhancing the process, it makes the printing process feel 20x longer. Things they need to improve: - Actual size printing option on all devices not just iPad- if it was designed that size, that’s how I want it to print, not everything is text. - Auto display full file name on LHS menu (hover/panel resize), if the difference is the last 3 chars you can’t tell which is correct file. - Send whole file to printer rather than requiring you to remain on page, having to wait for 50 pages to print is annoying and so is trying to track which part printed if you do exit the page (final update should display list of pages printed). Also happens when screen saver is activated but seems to only be for large jobs, again frustrating trying to figure out what has printed and constantly having to tap screen during printing, if it’s a requirement to keep the page open and active, why doesn’t it override the timeout like videos do? If I had a printer choice again, I’d consider wireless printer offerings properly as not impressed with this brand, but printer reliability has been good..Version: 9.7.2

If it is business critical, get an Epsom.If you need a reliable printer that is business critical, return the hp while you can. Cute for home or casual college use but if you need it to be reliable for critical tasks, do not risk this product line. The app should clearly be called hpStupid, not hpSmart. I laugh at that welcome screen. I had just enough time to scan one very important, business critical document before work that was 15 pages long. Not too complicated of a task. So I scanned it with just seconds to spare before my ride to work. I first tapped share and save 15 images to phone so they would be safe. POOF. ALL GONE. The app went back to the main menu and my document was GONE. Well, at least it saved pictures of my .pdf to my photos so it's SOMEWHERE, that's why I clicked that option first below saving it to a.pdf. NOPE! It randomly threw the first three introductory pages in there that I DIDN'T need as much, but the important stuff: DEFINITELY NOT THERE. GONE. No time to rescan it all now, I'm at work without it using their epsom printer to get the job done right and on my lunch break I'll be shopping for a new epsom printer and tonight I'll be returning that crappy hp system..Version: 5.6

Can’t print from iPhone 12This app was functional on the iPhone 7 I had. The only issue was I wish I could print directly from gmail attachments but I have to pull everything into google drive to print. If there’s a way to print through gmail and I missed it...then I think it should be easier to figure out how to print from gmail so that’s still an issue to me. Beyond this though, I am now on an iPhone 12 and this app is basically useless. It’s connected to the printer but every time I try to print I get an error message telling me there’s something wrong with my internet connection. This is the only thing on my phone where I have trouble with the “internet” so I’m positive it’s not my internet connection. I switched back to my iPhone 7 to try it out and was able to print just fine. The support experience through the app is terrible, so that’s why I’m writing a review here. If whatever bug with the app on iPhone 12 is resolved, I’ll adjust my review but for now this app is totally useless to me and I can’t print anything..Version: 8.1

No colourMy iPhone and iPad will no longer print in colour. I’m have had no trouble until a few weeks ago. There are now no menu showing to choose which pages to print or colour to choose. A document will show as colour- but as soon as you select the HP printer the document reverts to black and white. It does however give me all options from my HP computer. So no issue with ink. But that is not convenient as I use my iPhone 99% of the time to print. After spending nearly a day asking HP to look at this they say it’s Apple’s fault. Apple checked and said it’s HP fault. It is not an IOS update issue as I tried to print from another Apple device which has not updated to latest IOS. I had the same problem - no colour! In reading other reviews I realised lots of people have the same problem. I think it is about time HP sorted this or people will start to cancel their subscriptions!.Version: 11.0.1

Troubles with scanningWhen I start a scan job that is supposed to scan several pages, process them, and then upload them to Dropbox the job never finishes. It just spins on “Processing page x”, where x is the last page. Just keeps spinning. Never quits. I just have to force-kill the app. I’ve had to disable the final upload step and do it manually. It had previously been a really efficient way to process a bunch of multi-page scans. Today the printer/scanner had a real fit. It kept “processing” even after I force-killed it. I’d restart it, still “processing”. It finally lost network connectivity. I tried to get to the web interface to cycle power but the pages took forever to load and then wouldn’t execute correctly. Finally all connectivity disappeared, and the front screen went blank. After several tries I finally was able to get it to shut down. Started it up and tried scanning with manual processing and what I did worked fine. Seems like a race/memory leak or something. Is anyone else now having problems? I just upgraded to iPadOS 14.0.0. Third HP printer is a no goIf I could talk to the powers that be at HP, they would get an earful. I am sick and tired of buying brand new printers and having the ink run out and signing up for your program and getting in the middle of a very important document and my printer shuts down because it says I need to contact HP support. What the… Seriously you guys whatever happened to the days of printers that you plug-in, you buy ink when it needs it and live happily ever after. Today I picked up a brand new cheapo 2700 series because it was 59 bucks and it’s cheaper than buying new ink for my other brand new jet pro 8035. Which has been sitting for months unusable. Every time I have to print a single document I have to either go to my sons house which is 4 miles away or go to a library or something of that nature. I’m sick and tired of having to be bound by a contract to do a simple task. Horrendous app, please sort it outNever have I used such a terrible, frustrating app. There are numerous things wrong with this app and the printer it is supposed to work with. The printer randomly disconnects when it pleases and then the process of reconnecting it is a long and hard ordeal that may not even work and you will be back there within the next week. Furthermore, recently when I’ve tried to print documents it has told me the printer is in use and can’t print my documents. This is just a blatant lie. I can get around the issue by setting it up all over again on a different computer, but should this really be necessary? Also, getting the computer to print double sided was a tiresome project and this should not be the case, it was not obvious how to get this to happen and when it finally did, lo and behold, the printer disconnected itself. The frustration this app and printer give me is nothing compared to anything else and my life would be infinitely better without it. There are plenty of other reviews with similar themes to this one; Something is clearly very wrong. Please sort it out, you are wasting everyone’s time, patience and sanity. Takes me two hours to set up and still with errorThis app is poorly developed and bad interface with HP print. Causes dramas all the time. like slow detection, keep loading the page for ages etc. It took me two hours to set up and finally it told me there was an error with my black ink cartridge, it is not authentic but I used the test cartridge which coming with the printer. AwfulApp is slow to load, each time you click on something it takes ages to load and I’ve setup my printer multiple times but when I go in a few days later, it asks me to set up a printer as there’s none setup. I try to do it again and it can’t find my printer despite it being turned on and in the same wifi network. This has been by far the worst printer experience I’ve ever had. Could be betterLet me start by saying there are many good things about this app - I can scan documents directly from my camera on my phone for example which are far clearer than a photo would be...I can also print from my photo albums and documents. There are many features missing in my opinion though. For example the previous app would let me choose what paper size I wanted to use (A4, A5, 6x4, 5x7, letter etc) and this one as far as I can see does not. There’s also no option to print multiple pages on one sheet to save paper or have a smaller finished document. I would love to see integration with the HP ink service to see how much ink I’ve used or if another is being shipped, I’d like to be able to do so much more from the app and feel it is too basic in features whilst being overly complex on its appearance. I’d love to beta test an update if you’re reading this HP...I use my phone to print from my printer a lot and would love to do everything seamlessly from your app without having to research and spend money on others that have the features I need as well as heading back and forth to the website. The app always said my printer was offline even if I just printed a document. Try to register an instant ink but it needs to go to the website that my laptop warned about the virus. My previous printer (another brand) was more easier to use. It just only connect through the cable and download a program. No need to login before scanning. Nightmare with Mac Monterey & Big SurCan honestly say that I’ve never experienced problems with installing a printer, however just about drove me to madness trying to get the So-called Smart app to open and when I did it would not find a printer that was installed by usb and pick-up up by the Mac. Uninstalled several times and gave up. No VPN’S Installed even turned Apple firewall off and still no joy. Then I thought I’d try on my son’s MacBook with Big Sur on. And guess what? it wouldn’t find it connected to his Mac either. However I tried it on my Windows 10 pc. No problem at all. Thanks for the lack of hard work HP for providing a crap service for those who own Mac’s By the way get great features with windows and by all accounts crap features on MACS.Version: 9.0

Terrible. Doesn’t workI could download the app to my phone, but it won’t work on my computer I’ve downloaded it and it freezes every time and “doesn’t respond” so now I can use my computer to scan . EhI’ve had major issues printing from my iPhone to my HP network printer because it chops off the bottom in the top of images when I print them from my phone and I can’t choose the size or change hardly any parameters, so I’ve stayed frustrated trying to use the print-from-phone feature.. So I downloaded this app in hopes that it would work, and it does! I printed the whole image and the quality is great! But WHY am I limited to printing five? I needed to print 15 copies so I had to do it three times, and it says “stay on the screen until your print job is submitted” but it stays on that screen the whole time. Also, the verify you’re a human was really annoying. And I had to do it three times. Why do I have to set up an account to use your app to print my own printer it’s made by your company? It’s a little weird. Maybe this is not an HP app. I don’t know . I was able to print my image the way I needed to print it so I will continue to use this, but it’s not quite as seamless or user-friendly as I had hoped. Frustrating glitchesI don’t normally leave negative reviews, but I’ve struggled with my Smart Printer since buying it in January. The app on my phone connects fine when printing and scanning, but the minute I try to connect to buy new ink, it says the printer is offline (it clearly isn’t - the blue wifi light is on and I have full signal on my mobile too). So now I’m low on ink, but the service doesn’t recognise I’m low on ink because it says I’m not connected and therefore won’t send me any ink out. I’ve managed to input my payment details end set up a subscription. It just won’t recognise I’m low on ink. Very frustrating. I’ve also found the printer will suddenly stop midway through a large document print and it’s not straightforward reprinting from where you left off. You have to go into the print options from a different location, to then print your remainder of pages. I bought this printer for working from home during the pandemic on items I can’t do online. I’m finding I’m having to go into the office just to do printing, because this app and printer is so temperamental and just doesn’t always work. Horrible appI downloaded the app and tried to set up my printer. No matter what I did it would not recognize my printer. I keep getting the message that no AirPrint printers are found. I followed all the instructions I got from Apple regarding air printers and from the HP trouble shooting website. Nothing has worked. I can’t print anything. Sub servicesBasically you have to subscribe to use the printer you can work around it but unless you are a tech junkie like me it’s next to impossible and even then I’m solving new issues you can’t even use the app last time I knew without paying a subscription so everything must be done through hardware prompts, prompts that the user manual don’t tel you how to do you have to scour the Internet for answers it’s crazy like why should I have to pay monthly to use a printer that I bought and to use ink that I bought ( that’s the thing that will get you the most you can’t use or keep carriages from the sub service they must be used during active subscription and if you run out of pages tough… you can’t print more regardless if you have 20 spare cartridges, you can buy cartridges from the store and use those just need to bypass the app by getting the right drivers and using windows default printer tools. Bloody AwfulMy third HP printer, there’s nothing wrong with printer and I like the fixed cost ink subscription but the app is useless Whether on my phone or macbook. It consistently claims to not have a connection requiring the whole system to be rebooted, or drops out of a job half way through scanning a series of documents. It will suddenly start defaulting to documents on scanner glass even though I’ve loaded the feeder. HP Support is non existent and cleverly leads you back to where you started when you troubleshoot: pure genius. Real support is non existent, there is never any response from live chat or email. I will be seriously thinking about other printers when this one inevitably dies as they all seem to, for no good reason, but I suspect they’re all as bad as each other and congratulate each other at the Annual Printer Awards as to how they’ve tied in the world and deliver such crap service..Version: 9.5.1

Not able to reinstall after updateIt was working fine until it got updated 2 days ago... I’m using an iPhone 6 I know it’s a stone age phone with a 12. Something update and now this app is telling me that I need a 13.0 and later to use the app.. oh come on... IOS app will not allow printing from default trayIf What is the point of a printer app that will not allow you to print? I have HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 printer. On both my iPhone & my iPad, if i am on a website, or within another app, and want to print, I select share, then print with HP smart. The only option that appears is to print to photo paper from tray 2. (I don’t have photo paper in tray 2. I have envelopes in tray 2. I have checked my settings a gazillion times - I have tray 1 set as default tray, and tray 1 has and is set for plain letter size paper. I have tray 2 set as secondary, and it is set for the envelopes I in fact have loaded in tray two. ) Printer keeps trying to print from tray 2, and the envelopes jam repeatedly (even though envelopes print just fine from laptop without jamming).. I have to clear the document from the queue to get it to stop. If I print from within the HP smart app, then it prints onto plain letter paper from tray 1 just fine. However, the documents you can access from within the HP smart app are VERY limited and not of any use to me..Version: 8.11.1

Need a degree in IT for this printer.Every single time I try to print something I get an error of some sort, and don’t get me started on the nightmare it is to get this thing to connect to the internet! It constantly has paper jams, and when you finally get it running smoothly it’s out of paper because it has the smallest paper tray on record! It’s also really frustrating that you can’t order more ink until the printer says it’s low, meaning if I have a really big print job I have to wait for shipping to print half of it. Technical support is non-existent as well, so don’t buy it thinking they will walk you through it. I have struggled daily with this thing since I plugged it in, it’s constantly glitchy, tells me paper is empty when it’s full, won’t print for no reason at all but I open the app I can get it to print from there, the list goes on. No clear tech supportI spent half day to reset the printer due to wireless issue when printing from my phone. When you look for answers, just found only download the software and install!!! Never works properlyThe constant need to enter passwords is a time consuming and not needed when you are wanting to get something done especially when it needs to be done for each new item printed. The printing if it works takes forever, 1 document actually took 3 days before it printed. The scanner is hit and miss as to weather or not it can be used some days it’s available on the app and others for no reason it’s not able to be used from the app. The paper settings change of its own accord making it absolutely useless some days with no way of changing them back and then randomly it will be normal for a day before going back to being a good for nothing other than a paper weight. HP DESK JET 4120e3 easy steps they say I’m so Frustrated I’m spending half a day trying to find the printers details model number . Suspicious appDeleted it immediately. Why does the app need a connection to the internet to scan a document when it already has a connection to the printer/scanner? Had a direct connection to the printer over WiFi and it could display ink levels and all technical info. When I went to scan a document which was why I wanted the app it couldn’t do it unless it was on the internet. It’s really suspicious that it needs a connection to the internet when the app and printer can already talk to each other. I deleted it as my concern was that my data/scan didn’t need to go anywhere other than from the scanner/printer to the app. I didn’t want anyone being ‘helpful’ and taking a copy for ‘backup’ purposes. That coupled with the initial screen that wants you to consent to data tracking and personalised ads outside the app..Version: 9.7.1

Terrible appThis app DOES NOT WORK, nor it is required in order to use HP wireless printer. I finally figured it out. I was trying to set up my new hp printer and followed instructions that came with it. Second step was to download the app than everything else would be set up from the app. After connecting my printer to my WiFi next step would be to set up printer in the app. It would not work. It kept popping a window saying No network connection, try again. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I finally contacted customer support, which halos was useless. They wouldn’t know what the problem was either and couldn’t help me. Finally after a couple of hours of frustration and almost decided to return the printer I decided to just try printing something from my phone. iPhone had an option to print from every photo, document and everything. I started printing everything from my phone, pictures, emails etc just to make sure it works and it did!!!! I don’t need to use this useless app at all. As long as my phone and printer connected to the same WiFi, it prints just fine. I deleted this “smart” app. Can’t believe I was blaming my printer!!!.Version: 8.2.1

App options not really functionalAs a basic printing interface, app is fine. For the more advanced printing settings, the app does not provide details intuitively. Particularly, the menu option for “Supported Supplies” does not indicate what type of ink (or any other supplies) supported by the printer, but only takes you to a window for a subscription service. The buried links to stores for ordering inks individually doesn’t take you to the correct supplies link as well, only to general homepages, so doesn’t identify which supplies are supported either. There isn’t a way to tell either what the ink levels are. App appears to exist as a way to push subscription services, rather than a useful management tool for the printer..Version: 9.0

HorrendousI got this app as I currently don’t have my computer to scan things to, and let me save you the headache by saying straight out that it’s been a complete hassle. First it made me create an account to even gain permission to scan (why do I need an account??), next when I had finally scanned and edited my image, minimising the app caused me to lose the image altogether.. so scanned it a second time..... I go to save the image and I am asked to set permissions to allow the app to access my photos. THE APP sent me to settings I set it to allow read and write... come back to the app to check the photo saved and guess what. GONE AGAIN I’m just trying to scan a single image it should not be this much trouble..... please please HP sort it out why do I lose all progress when I minimise the app??? ProblemWe have had the printer for about 2 years now, it has worked perfectly fine. Yesterday I tried to print an image but a paper jam kept happening. I kept moving the paper, removing paper and adding paper but nothing happened. Equally as regularly the printer would say out of paper even thought there was enough paper. I looked inside to see if there was any paper jammed inside the printer but I didn’t see any. As well as that, when the printer was printing, the paper would shrivel up and move to the side and also make a funny noise. I also tried to print other images, turn the printer on and off, take everything on my device off list and re-open the app, but it still didn’t work. DisappointingI can understand the ease of setting a device like a printer up with a phone. It’s a great idea, unfortunately it doesn’t actually work. I went through all the steps as outlined in the app when prompted ... and the process timed out. When I tried to redo it, the app said my printer was ready to go; it wasn’t and I couldn’t print anything. So I switched to my laptop, which I’d be printing with anyway. The software told me no ink was installed, because ... duh, the program on my phone hadn’t had a chance to even get that far. Anyway, the desktop app told me what was wrong, but not how to fix it. I opened a panel on the front of the printer and took care of it myself. Since then I’ve had any number of problems, from the printer not connecting to the app, to it printing test sheets for no reason, to it printing the same page multiple times despite my having set copies to “1” and clearing the job list. HP printers are complete trashHP printers are complete trash! I’ve spent over an HOUR to get get the “simple setup” printer to do anything. First the HP app would not load on my laptop it said for best results set the printer up on a mobile device so I set it on my phone. Surprise! To use this printer I have to create an HP account!?!? Why should I have to have an account to use a printer I paid for? Why do I need to use your app?! Why do you need to see what I am printing? Because I know that’s what apps do they track you. So I add another account to my growing list of passwords. I do the test print it works. Then I try to load the app on my laptop again. I finally get it loaded and try to test print…. NOTHING!!!! It says it’s printing, it’s in the que, nothing! I say screw it I’ll print the one page I need off my phone. The test print worked before. Right? Print. NOTHING!!!!!!!! I try pushing the power button on the printer and NOTHING!!!!!! I unplug it, plug it back in and try to print again. Ok now it says waiting to print. Sounds good. The “rate this app” pops up, I give one star. The “write a review” pops up, I write this. I’M STILL WAITING FOR THIS ONE PAGE TO PRINT. I would return this piece of trash if it wasn’t past the return date and don’t know what I did with the receipt. Guess it’s my fault for not setting it up when I bought it..Version: 9.4

Nothing “smart” about HPSmartI have struggled with this printer/app/software trifecta of disaster for far longer than I’d care to admit. From issues of the app simply never wanting to work in any sense of consistency, to the printer itself too stupid to recognized the difference between used and brand new ink, it baffles me I have not simply thrown the whole thing into the dumpster. There seems to be a new flavor of difficulty every time I want to use the thing, which is rare and saved only when there comes a time of desperate need. That is how much I despite using this printer. I have reinstalled the app more times I can count on one hand, due to issues that can range from being inexplicably unable to to save a pdf to something as major as not being able to use it at all because it can’t sustain itself from crashing long enough to log me in. And if I can miraculously get the program to execute its basic functions, the printer suddenly decides it will simply not print more than half a page, or worse, that it will cease to remember how to wirelessly connect to the computer in the first place. This product uses technology that makes it “sleek” and modern but is riddled with more bugs than a NYC dumpster and good luck manipulating their virtual assistant into getting you real, human help. I have tried time and time again to fix and make this work, but it’s clear now I will be staying away from ALL HP products from here on out..Version: 9.2.1

HP Smart for MacThe HP smart is a good way to access mobile uses, printer setup settings, and various other useful tools. The software seems to work well. However, the development team seems to have left out a very important function for Apple Mac users that used to be in the old “HP Utility” application before “HP Smart” came around. The printers have a “scan to computer” function where you stand at the printer and load files and press the printers touch screen button to scan the loaded pages directly to a computer. This function can only be turned on to recognize a Mac computer to scan to by turning on the tool under the “HP Utility” scan settings on the computer itself and not through the printers webpage settings. Now that HP Utility is no more and we only have HP Smart this scan to computer setting is missing. There is no longer a way to scan straight from the printer to a Mac. Instead now you have to load the items to scan at the printer and then walk back to the Mac to press the scan button on the HP Smart app and then go back and forth to the printer again to retrieve the hard copy pages. Additionally, I assume an update to the software would be in the works to better support the apple silicon devices. The current version has to run in Rosetta..Version: 8.5.1

HP Smart Tank 7300I have had HP Printer before upgrading and loved it. This one not so much. The printout will say I’m connected but go to print and it tells me I’m Offline. If I could take it back I would. Not happy at all. Even when I had it working, I had to sign in to HP site to be able to Scan. Whatever happened to plug and play. Wishing I had never bought it - thinking it doesn’t like my Mac and all the information seems to want to take you to information for Windows.Version: 9.7.2

It could have been better.I’m so sorry that I have had to write a bad review but it is not what I expected at all. I honestly didn’t want to write this but I am, I got this for Christmas in 2019 and it was one I was looking forward to.. however I had issues with this. I can not print nothing at all from this except scanning things which in my opinion is not the same. I needed to use the product to print out some documents and I couldn’t because when I try to press print it doesn’t let me, some may say the problem is that maybe I don’t have enough ink; but I have put many ink in there because I thought that was the problem to, obviously not. Worst printer I’ve ever had (HP envy 6430e)Printer doesn’t print. Spent over 30hours across weeks trying to get it to print. Hooked up the wifi, replaced paper changer the HP original inc cartridges with new HP original cartridges. Looked up the error codes 0 & 9 and followed the online steps to resolve them. Printer then changes from yellow status (error) to blue status (good to print). Then I’ll attempt to print only to have the printer return once again to yellow and start all over again. The app doesn’t help either as it is connected to the printer, says every thinks ready. But when trying to print, has yet another error and the printer does nothing. If your looking for a good printer I’d steer clear of the HP envy 6430e as it’s been nothing but trouble since we got it! Very difficultVery difficult to know what to do when I received my printer. I unpacked the printer but there was no instructions for how to set up and connect printer to wifi. The only instructions I had was how to install ink and load paper. I had no idea how to connect to wifi so I ended up googling that thankfully took me to the HP setup website that in turn led me to download the HP app. This would have been so much easier if instructions to download the app accompanied the printer. The App itself is temperamental. It took 4 times to be able to connect to wifi. My phone wasn’t finding the HP setup in wifi settings and there was no guide anywhere or anyone I could contact via the app to help me understand why it wasn’t my showing up. I had to press a few buttons on the printer and play around with some things before the HP setup became visible in wifi settings. Once I was connected to wifi and set up the printer I managed to print the welcome document and the alignment paper to align the printer. So I assumed everything was all good to go. However, I have tried to send various documents to print and nothing is happening. It just says printer is busy and not printing anything! The idea of the app sounds great but there appears to be no help or much of a guide when problems appear. Just a list of standard questions and answers and no one I can actually talk to for help. I currently have a brand new printer that I can’t use at the moment!! Very frustrating!.Version: 10.0.0

Not impressedI needed a printer for one off printing. The only small printer they had in a respectable retail store was this, paired with the subscription. So i bought it. At first i received extra cartridges by post straight away for some reason, even when I didn’t need it. I printed about 20 pages only because i had the subscription, which allowed me 100? I think. And kept rolling over. Was trying to cancel at the end of the free period, mind you i already paid extra 10 pounds for the printer, but they were gonna charge me five bucks for cancelling, so i thought i might just keep it. Then i decided that i go for the one pound option cos I don’t print that much. Needless to say that for one day they charged me 5 bucks again for the next period, but for some reason i lost all my roll over pages immediately. If you cancel they say your ink won’t work anymore, which is unfair to be honest, it is ok they don’t supply you any more but that you cannot use your current ink is a bit too far. The app is unreliable, not always responding, also difficult to navigate, constantly asks for login, and each and every time takes you to the external website. Don’t see why this service is better than just buying ink. Well i know i should have reviewed the app, not the service but as I said the app is not great either..Version: 9.2

DON'T GET INSTANT INKIf you haven't already purchased an HP printer, DON'T!!!!!! If you have, DON'T GET THEIR INSTANT INK!!! Once you subscribe to this service, they won't let you cancel the subscription without remotely turning off your printer and disabling ANY ink they have sent you for this program. Last month I didn't have much printing to do, instant ink works off number of pages printed, so I paused my service. I then received a threat under their notification center in their app they they would be deactivatng my printer for the paused month, and if I wanted to print I would have to purchase other ink cartridges as the ones they sent me through the Instant ink program wouldn't work until I reconnected my service with them. I don't care if that is even poss or not, I tend to believe that is an idle threat, but what kind of company threatens their customers to add an additional service they no longer want or they will turn your property off?? I won't be threatened by a mediocre company on their best day. You have lost a loyal customer forever..Version: 9.2.1
