Cocktail Flow - Drink Recipes for Negative User Reviews

Used to love this appHad this as my default app for my home bar for quite a while, but now that they’ve introduced the premium subscription I can’t see all the cocktails I had before! I’m not paying for something that was free and now isn’t, I’ll delete them app now..Version: 3.0

Promo code didnt workMade two of my friends sign up for this app but it still didnt let us have the free stuff so like whats goin in here.Version: 3.4

Needs an updateGreat app but has been abandoned, please just update with new recipes.Version: 3.4

Hate the New Update - Bring Back the Old OneI used to absolutely love this app and used it everyday. Not anymore. With the recent update a lot of the recipes that were there before are now gone. I miss the “search for anything” option. Being able to search on an ingredient was one of the options I used a lot. A lot of things it used to do and have it no longer does even with a paid subscription. Wish I had not bought it. If any of the developers are reading this, is there anyway I can get a refund? Probably not. After this review, I’m off to find another app. There has to be another one in the App Store that is better than this..Version: 3.1

It has its limitsNice app, especially adding what cocktails you can make from your own bar items, however, it doesn’t allow you to suggest to the owners to add other items such as types of gin, types of whisky, types of rum. In fact there are no recipes using Spiced rum. I won’t renew my subscription after my year is up unless they make the app more intuitive..Version: 3.4

Monthly/Yearly feesTo someone who wants to try an odd combo from time to time, this app seems a little too expensive..Version: 3.4

So disappointing!I used to love this app, it was a constant source of reference in my work, albeit very US centric with the lack of millilitres in the measurement unit options. It was informative, clever, helpful and aesthetically beautiful. However..... Since the latest update, a ridiculous paywall has been introduced behind which, a large part of this app’s content has been hidden. All the cocktails that I had carefully added to my favourites have been reset and now the count stands at zero, I assume because most of them are in the premium section. I had taken a great deal of time in cultivating my favourites and don’t feel that I want to search for them all again. It’s such a disappointment to see that the developers of what was once a truly great app, has taken the capitalist route and decided to reap money from their loyal users. Why couldn’t they introduce ads like most developers or, if they were dead set on charging users, have a one off payment rather than a subscription. It’s so baffling considering that we are just an internet search away from getting very similar content. App deleted. ☹️.Version: 3.1

Was better last year...Used to have suggestions when you say what you had in your bar. It used to suggest you what ingredient to add to make the most cocktails out of your bar. Was the best feature....Version: 3.4

Good, but not quiteGood layout and easy to use, but two important drawbacks. The first is that there are some serious drinks missing from the list of ingredients. The second is that the cocktails it says I can make include ingredients which are not in the list of gradients that I have entered as having..Version: 3.1

Pretty poorFinds very few drinks with selected ingredients. Different app same ingredients yeilds much better results..Version: 3.4

Liked it for a while … then I got in deeperBought the year subscription, and liked many of the recipes but as I ventured further into the recipes, I found more and more recipes with missing or wrong preparation steps. “Corn and Oil” lists one set of ingredients but prep steps are something entirely different. No easy way to tweak a recipe to the balance you like. Painful to enter your own recipes, and they don’t have the “scale” setting, nor are they very attractive. Canceled my subscription and now trying Mixel..Version: 3.4

BummerRecent update made this app less useful. Now you have to be a “premium” member to see certain recipes. Also, it no longer shows which drinks you can make with your own ( sometimes limited) bar selection, which was one of its best features..Version: 3.1

Hmm, not great.Used the old free version for a while and it had some good cocktails on there. Excited to see the ‘Premium’ features in the new version - very disappointing. Still very glitchy (ingredients missing/mislabelled etc.) and some classic cocktails completely missing! Don’t make the same mistake I did and sign up for a year subscription as Apple will not issue a refund. A good idea but stick with searching online - it’s free!.Version: 3.1

Not really freeCosts to buy extra recipes.. I'll get them for free, thanx.Version: 1.01

Comes up short on the cocktailsGood looking app and able to add ingredients. But was surprised that, with 40 plus ingredients (many of them common) app could only suggest 2 cocktails (3 more if pay for the premium package). Despite that, I’ve been making dozens of cocktails with that selection from my local bottle shop’s cocktail guide. So, underperforms and relies on in app purchasing to obtain any real value..Version: 3.4

Took a free app and added paywalls because greedYou guys updated to the app and locked off cocktails to a £4.99/mo fee when it was all previously free why? I would have preferred you added advertisements. It’s nice you added new cocktails to the list but locking off ones that were already free behind a pay wall is scummy, especially when all of them are a single google search away. Your app isn’t a replacement of google it’s a convenience to use instead of google.Version: 3.0

Not nearly dynamic enoughBest thing about it probably the visual design. The ‘assistant’ is so lacking in what should be USP of the entire app. I can look up cocktails anywhere on the internet, but I downloaded the app (and tried Premium) to get cocktails based on what I’ve got in my bar. Ultimately I just get the same 8 cocktails generated for me no matter how much I update my ‘bar’ with new spirits/liqueurs/mixers, no way of refreshing the suggested cocktails, filtering based on what kind of cocktails I’d like to be suggested or even just getting more suggestions - ends up falling really flat..Version: 3.4

Premium costs too muchLove the app, clear instructions, helpful tips, tons of recipes. I just wish you didn’t have to pay so much to make notes/see premium cocktails.Version: 3.4

Good concept needs finishingThis is a very good concept. A few bugs in that it Reccomended cocktails that needed ingredients I had not said I had in my bar. Also the subscription model is not appropriate. It just needs a one off charge of umber £5 and I would buy it. I’m not subscribing for cocktails..Version: 3.4

GreatMissing a few drinks put the great UI makes up for that. Would be nice to backup/sync your bar & favs with other iOS devices & iCloud..Version: 1.01

What a shame! This was a great app, I used it far too much at weekends!! If it was a one off purchase of say £1.99 I’d do it. £4.99 A MONTH is crazy. Can’t you make revenue with adverts? I suffer one for every 2 or 3 cocktail receipts. I am two working days away from deleting this - cone Saturday I will finding a new replacement app. What a shame....Version: 3.0

Good in theory, but almost useless if you don’t payThis app looks great, and sounded like an awesome idea. Load your ingredients in, and it will give you a list of the cocktails you can make with those ingredients. I took the time to load my whole liquor cabinet in, as well as mixers and other ingredients, and I got one, yes ONE cocktail recipe - and it was literally “mix bourbon and amaretto at equal parts”. It said there are more recipes if I subscribe. Either charge for it up front or make it free, but don’t scam us with a free version that is useless. I’m deleting and looking for something else..Version: 3.4

No pimms? Are you kidding me? No pimms? Waste of time. Find another by people who actually know what they're doing..Version: 2.2

PointlessWhat is the point of a free cocktail recipe app if you have to pay to actually see the recipes? Pointless waste of space..Version: 3.4

Pay?You have to pay now to see certain drinks when it use to be free they see all..Version: 3.2

Stunning to look at but...Great looking app and has great features, but you put in the ingredients you have then it suggests drinks that contain ingredients you don't have. Fix this and it would be a 5 star app but for now I'll have to use a different app 😕.Version: 2.0

Lost my cocktails thanks to paywallWow. I’ve used this for a year or so, I had library of around 40 cocktails. More than half, and pretty much all of my favourites, are now locked behind a £19 a year sub. You’ve gone from my go-to cocktail resource to being removed from my iPad..Version: 3.1.1

The “update” is just reduced content, inconvenience, and overpriced membershipVisually, this is by far the most polished cocktail app. Previous versions had some limitations in terms of content but no app can have everything. There were some inconsistencies in the measurements that have not been addressed for years. These are irritations that can prevent an app to get a perfect score, but it was a very decent one. The picture changed with the new release. What the new version “adds” is a reduced list of cocktails and inability to import previously purchased content unless one kept the receipts (who and why would keep all receipts over the years?). Very curious what market research was done to justify the premium subscription prices... good luck with your plan. Very disappointing developments..Version: 3.0

A great app, abandoned?Cocktail Flow has always been a solid mixology app, going back to their WP7 days. Being able to add your available ingredients and filter by those is invaluable. Unfortunately, the app appears to be abandoned, with support requests going unanswered. Modern iOS features remain absent. As such, it feels dishonest to offer and charge people an ongoing subscription. Subscriptions are meant to be the incentive to continue development, but if the latter isn’t forthcoming, don’t offer the former..Version: 3.4

Double dippingGot the app ages ago and paid for all the add one now I f I want full functionality again I have to continue paying for it.Version: 3.4

Average at bestIt looks great, but there is basically 0 variety in the free version, which is a little dodgy.Version: 1.0.2

Did you get bought out? What was once a beautiful bit of craftsmanship, clearly made by someone with a love of cocktails is now a shell of it’s former self. Intruded a massive paywall, out of the blue, which is unreasonable compared to services offered. This is a good app, I would be more than willing to pay for it now I know what it’s like. But nearly £4 each month? This is rather insulting because similar variations on the market can’t get away with £2.99 in a one-off purchase. Let alone this. It feels like you don’t know your market at all, the app does not have a subscription based demand, it’s a reference app for spotty occasions. Very rarely is a subscription necessary for ‘every day use.’ I wish you all the best of luck in the future, but this is too much for me. Thank you..Version: 3.1.1

Poor Handling of subscription updatesPaid for this app and now locked out of premium content. Bad communication and product model transition! Subscription price to high for an annual sub. Not really worth the coin..Version: 3.1.1

If this is number 1 the rest must be terribleI can make about 20 pre and prohibition era cocktails with the ingredients I have so I was looking for more. It tells me there are 4 cocktails I can make, (5 more in the premium version) how does the number one app have so few recipes? I’m guessing through marketing.Version: 3.4

Premium = Subscription = DeleteBye bye..Version: 3.0

Hate it when developers get greedySo with Cocktail Flow’s latest version the developers want you to subscribe. Nothing wrong with that, in theory. But now, unless you subscribe, you won’t have access to a number of the recipes which were previously in the app! My daughter’s favorite - the alcohol-free Designated Appletini - gone! French Gimlet - bye-bye! And that’s just what I noticed after 30 seconds. This app never had that big a selection of cocktails... and now it’s even smaller. Yeah, that’s gonna encourage me to give these guys 5 bucks a month. You should probably look elsewhere at this point. There are much better-known cocktail apps containing significantly more recipes which only ask you to pay once - go with one of those..Version: 3.0

Started well, but soon deletedI was really impressed to begin with but when I started searching the most popular/new cocktails were for premium only and it kept trying to get me to upgrade…..Version: 3.4

Very good cocktail guideLove this app. Has everything I need to start making cocktails and I know I have the ingredients because of the super handy lounge feature. Well done- Lacks the ability to add custom cocktails of your own however- many would love to see that in sure!.Version: 2.0

Awful experienceBought this app before they “redesigned” it (made pay-to-win-ish subscription bullcrap). And now they offer sane thing but for month-by-month. And cynically offer to unlock full app if you send them a purchase receipt (Apple Store email). Who’s keeping wmaiks from 5 years ago? Zero stars!.Version: 3.4

The premium featureThis was an amazing cocktail app until the recent update making most of the cocktails only accessible if you pay. They took the best free cocktail app on the App Store and put a price on what they had previously offered for nothing! I’m also angered by the fact that I was just planning to have a cocktail evening later this week with friends from school which has been massively hindered as I had hoped to offer them cocktails from this app!.Version: 3.0

Money grabI used to love this app and 6 months ago I would have given it 5 stars. After introducing the premium membership the app is hardly worth using anymore. Many cocktails that I had made before are now locked as premium content. I’ll be looking for a new app..Version: 3.3

Pricing structure is ridiculousI’ve liked Cocktail Flow for a while: it’s got a good interface, has handy features (like keeping a “pantry” to help determine what drinks you can make), and has a decently large if relatively standard selection of cocktails. There are a few things that are off, like some of the recipes being copied to the app wrong, or the pantry feature having a relatively small selection of less basic liquors and mixers, or some cocktails being made oddly simple to fit in better with their sorting and ingredient database. Nevertheless, I thought it was the best iOS app for most purposes. But... the pricing. I didn’t mind it too much when I first started using it, and it had a few $.99 -$2 cocktail packs that were mostly seasonal or other special occasion related. However, ever since the big revamp I think the pricing is kind of ridiculous: $20 a year or $4 dollars a month just to use this app that’s just doing what dozens of other apps and websites do, for free or just a single payment? When you look at the lists, more than half of the cocktails, including some very basic ones, are premium, which is incredibly frustrating. I know app developers have to make money somehow, but I would rather have just paid $5 once and had a few small IAP for seasonal collections at the worst, or something. But just adding some improperly transcribed cocktail recipes copied from someone else’s cookbook? Not worth it.Version: 3.4

Fantastic but incompleteI really like this app. Love how simple it is to use and love the design. However, the cocktail list is incomplete.. it's obviously impossible to know every cocktail in the world, but I would suggest a feature to edit the list. Maybe add cocktail recipes to one's own view, or add a way to send recipes to the app managers so they can upload more cocktails. Also, what I think would be a BIG improvement is to let users get a small description of each ingredient, maybe with a picture too, by tapping on the ingredient..Version: 2.0

Decent App but Ridiculous PriceI’m fine paying for an app; developers gotta eat too, but a subscription just to get a list of cocktail recipes I could get online for free is insane. Subscriptions make sense for platforms that are continually posting new content like movies and articles, but no one is using this app expecting dozens of new cocktail recipes every month. A single payment for premium would be fine, but no way am I paying $4/month just to get some extra recipes..Version: 3.4

Easy to use, decent feature, missing lots of cocktailsThis app is by far the best cocktail recipe app available on iOS, but it is not by any means comprehensive. Many drink recipes and ingredient options are not available. I would rate this a 3.5 if possible. I do hope future updates add to this app..Version: 3.4

Premium member but can’t see Christmas cocktailsSeems like there is a bug that does not show the Christmas cocktails for premium members..Version: 3.4

A farce!Don’t bother! I just downloaded the app & virtually every cocktail I browsed was ‘premium only’! Find another! ☹️.Version: 3.4

Could be amazing!Love the idea of this app. How convenient to be able to list your cabinet and see what drinks you can make. But there are many of really basic mix-ins are not listed in any section. One of the developers should walk down the aisles at a top notch liquor store and mark down every add-in (especially all the flavored liquors and bitters) to include in their next update..Version: 3.4

Oh no~~I like the last version which I can browse over 150 different drinks offline, and I like that layout design, feels fancy and cool. Now, I just wanna puke on this one..Version: 2.0

Doesn't workIt would be good but you tell it what you have and it just shows all drinks anyway made with things you don't have!! If it actually worked it would be good but a bit useless seeing as it doesnt.Version: 2.0

Like old version betterNewest version is cluttered. Steps move from left to right and then diagonally to the bottom left. Old version moved step by step down..Version: 3.2

Like the app, but it could be betterIncluding reviews for the different recipes is a must. Not just your own review either so you know what drinks are good to try. Also, a sort feature and drinks based on your likes would be nice as well. I like the layout of the app and things are pretty easy to find. It just needs a little more work to bump it up to a 5 star.Version: 3.4

I love this app, but..I want to be able to provide you feedback from within your app via the “say hi anytime” link, but the link is dead. I tried reach out to you via Twitter but go no response..Version: 3.4

Directions often don't make senseI have no idea what a"a piece of egg" might be and have yet to receive a response to my inquiry. Also, some ingredients are given in ratio (one part of this and two parts of that) but another ingredient is a specific amt like 1 tsp. Clearly the teaspoon ingredient would change depending on how much each of those "parts" were. Again, no response to inquiry as to what one should assume is a "part" in a recipe. Not working well so far..Version: 2.3

One of the cocktail apps out there, but too expensive consideringI’ve tried a dozen or so cocktail apps, trying to find one that lets me store my own favorite recipes, search for new ones based on ingredients, keep track of what ingredients I have and what I need to get. This app checks almost all the boxes and hands-down has the best interface, but it has a comparatively limited database of cocktails and requires a $25/year subscription for most of the basic functions and for the full (be still quite limited) list of recipes. $25 one-time cost *maybe* - but not $25 every year with no guarantee that it won’t be unsupported in a few years and everything lost..Version: 3.4

Beautiful app but crazy subscription costThis is a beautifully designed app and that deserves to be paid for and not cluttered but ads. But $4/mo or $20/yr is insane. Are cocktails High-technology that goes out of date every year?? Offer a time price and I’d probably pay it. Offer paid packages of “new” cocktails each year if that’s a thing. Maybe this makes sense for professional bartenders. For me it doesn’t. I’ll go elsewhere for cocktail advice..Version: 3.4

Lovely UIBut a bit light on recipes. Love the shopping list idea, would be great if it showed some more..Version: 1.01

Probably malware—DO NOT DOWNLOADI am such a sucker for paying for a yearly subscription. This app charges to access all but the most common cocktails and even those are sometimes not quite right. I should have seen it before, that it was fishy. Unfortunately enough people love it that they give it glowing reviews on here and meanwhile they are having their device clipboard (or other device clipboards if Handoff is enabled) scraped for sensitive data like passwords and bank account numbers, and thank goodness iOS shows a notification every time it happens..Version: 3.4

Unnecessary PaywallFor the love of god why does every single app have to be subscription based? It’s a cocktail app. This information is readily available elsewhere but they put things behind an arbitrary paywall. This is just pathetic. It’s a shame because the app is extremely well designed and pleasant to use. But I’m not paying for cocktail recipes..Version: 3.4

Good if you know the cocktail name…… not so great at matching what you have in your bar e.g. select vodka, Kahlua and cream - no matches; add ice - 2 matches. Would be better if you got all possible cocktails from ingredients entered and whittled down by entering more. This works opposite way round. Might be enough for me to pick a different app..Version: 3.4

Disappointed with the premium featuresI paid for the premium features so I can enter my own cocktail recipes but found that I can’t link them to the ingredients so there’s no way of knowing if I can make those cocktails. I can’t add picture either of my drinks. If only the custom drinks can have the same features as the regular drink recipes, this app would actually be useful. Right now I have zero desire to continue to pay for this.Version: 3.4

Doesnt need to be a subscription! The app is cool but it’s basically a glorified database with a pretty UI - nothing in here justifies a monthly subscription. Id absolutely pay a one time purchase for a premium upgrade, but theres no chance I sign up for montly payments for this app..Version: 3.4

Limited ingredientsMissing some ingredients I consider key to creating drinks for my palate (mezcal, cynar, to name the first two that came to mind). I was hoping I could add ingredients and keep track of what I had mixed but it doesn’t do that..Version: 2.3

Broken recipesThis app has beautiful art but and a decent selection but about 10%+ of its recipes just have straight up bugs. Missing quantities, ingredients switched with a different recipe in the method, database tags showing up instead of ingredients. I’ve tried reporting them but I don’t get a reply from the dev and the app hasn’t been updated for 3 years despite advertising new drinks being added as a feature of the premium subscription. A real shame.Version: 3.4

Errmm photos?Photos on the app don't load. Really has missed out on the main selling point to use the app.Version: 2.0

Great butThis is a pretty good app but for some reason on my iPhone 5, it takes some time for the pictures of the drinks to display. Are they loaded on the fly? It would be better if they showed right away..Version: 2.0

Changes to app turned it into a money grab. This used to be a great app until the changed it t and started charging people $27/year..Version: 3.3

App is Useless Without Paid SubscriptionJust charge a small fee for the app. Otherwise, I’ll find free recipes, make free notes, and log my ingredients elsewhere - like in books. 🙄.Version: 3.4

Old version is betterI like this app and I often use it to make drinks. However, this update disappointed me. As for the interface of my bar, now you can not see the ABV anymore without click each cocktail. In the past, it was quite good to find a strong/light one in my bar from a list of drink. Strongly advise to recover that function!!.Version: 2.2

Good app just missing a few thingsThis app would be a full five stars if it wasn’t missing some key drinks. Doesn’t have a couple different schnapps flavour. Which is actually understandable because there’s many. It’s also missing other keys drinks that make very nice drinks..Version: 3.4

Limited bar, drink recipes behind purchasesHalf the stuff I stock in my home bar wasn’t available to load into theirs (including only 5 types of bitters), and the first cocktail I went to check out (last word) was behind a purchase wall. Not impressed for a first attempt at using it..Version: 3.4

Really a big disappointment after the latest updateNot only that you need to pay now, but a large number of cocktails have disappeared from the list (unfortunately almost all of my favorites) I hope this will be fixed..Version: 3.0

LOVE IT!Absolutely love this app! The app gives a massive range of cocktail choices, the cocktails are arranged in categories from summer to winter to different locations. As well the app makes you aware of each cocktails strength (from mild to strong also giving you a percentage of alcohol in each cocktail). You can also choose a list of cocktails base upon spirt incase you don’t have a variety of spirts in your cupboard to choose from then you will still get an idea of what you can make. The cocktail recipes are also extremely clear to understand, they tell you what is in every cocktail as well and what kind of glass they are served in to what garnishes are on or in the glass. You can also create your own personal list of cocktails that you save from the app that you are interested in so that you can try making them later on..Version: 2.3

Looks fantastic...butSo many of these cocktail recipes are off the mark or missing ingredients..Version: 1.0.2

My first review. Not sure how many star I should give. I mean the app is fenomenal but the premium feature is total garbage. Developers absolutely destroyed their market..Version: 3.4

Some great features but would suggest more optionsThe base functionality is quite good. I had an old app where I had many custom recipes stored. However it has been removed from the App Store and I lost access to all my recipes. Been trying Cocktail Flow and it has many of those same features so I’m generally pleased with the app. However, after subscribing to the premium features, I was disappointed by some of the limitations with creating custom recipes. E.g.: allow custom recipes to specify glassware and portions/servings so that the number of servings can scale up ingredients like in the stock catalog..Version: 3.4
