TunnelBear: Secure VPN & Wifi for Negative User Reviews
✓ Progressively gotten worse, poor reliability.TunnelBear has gradually gotten worse over the last 3.5 years. The application for the iPhone has become evermore unstable, dropped connection, not connecting to country or just not responding at all. The desktop app was ok, but that has also stated to perform in a terribly familiar fashion as the mobile app. Often the application will tell you it’s connected to required country, but opening application that requires different country or running basic speed test shows that it’s not actually connected to the chosen country. The mobile application often required a ‘kill and restart’ sometimes several times before it actually makes the connect. External applications have also started to recognise when tunnelbear is in use and blocks connection. Defeats the purpose of the app. The recent price increase and service being provided by tunnel bear is not proportional..Version: 2.8.1
✓ OK when it works, which is increasingly rareBeen using TunnelBear as a paid subscriber for a while now but in the last couple of months reliability has fallen through the floor. Often at work when connected to free WiFi I’d find that the VPN despite saying connected actually wasn’t. In the last month or so even when it is working speeds have dropped dramatically and whilst I’d been about to log a support call I found out something that means I’m no longer interested in the product. This is for me the main issue - McAfee. TunnelBear is now a McAfee company and for quite some time now I’ve gone out of my way to not use their products and sadly this is now one of them..Version: 2.9
✓ Not working, customer support?I used the free service and happily found that it solved problems I was having with my previous well-known VPN. So despite still having a few paid months left on that service, I decided to switch to Tunnelbear and paid for a long-term subscription. Unfortunately, after using it successfully for a few days, it then failed completely. Just won’t sustain a connection. I’ve not been able to figure out how to get customer support either. At this point, I feel like I’ve wasted my money. I now have two paid subscriptions - one which is slow and oversubscribed - and Tunnelbear which is inoperative. I realise that there may be issues with how it’s configuring but in the absence of customer support how can I address those? Where can I get assistance? Or failing that, a refund. After all, I’ve paid my dues and the clock is ticking on my subscription but but I am getting absolutely nothing for it, except frustration..Version: 4.2.4
✓ LIESThe app works as expected, it’s a simple VPN. If you go with the free plan, and run out of data you are given the option to download on a computer for an extra 1GB of data. Except they only give you half that amount. They also say to tweet at them for another 1 GB and they will reply and reward it within an hour. It’s now been two tweets and days later with no reply or extra data given to me. If you’re going to pay for a VPN, there are ,ich better ones (basically all of them) that won’t lie to you about what they offer. If they lie about the simple amount of data you’ll get, why would you EVER trust them to keep your personal information safe? Update for the developer response: obviously nothing is stopping the data from going to my account because I still received HALF the amount promised. If something were preventing me from getting data, I wouldn’t have gotten any. TLDR; the app lies, don’t expect any of your information to be safe because what they say isn’t true..Version: 3.2
✓ HorribleWhy would I pay money to play games at school and have to pay so much money worst app ever 😤.Version: 4.4.1
✓ Make it better for Warzone mobileNow.Version: 4.4
✓ Previously 5 star but current performance is unacceptableUpdate 11 Nov Raised to 3 stars from 1 star as, whilst the issue is still there, the proactive and quick and intelligent response from the team to try and work the issue and find the causes is really impressive. 1 nov 20 - I have used tunnel bear for many years as a paid up user - as have my family - and I have recommended to work colleagues and friends as well. So I get no pleasure from giving a 1 star review but I need the developers to pay attention. Given that a vpn is all about protecting your device and data it is totally unacceptable for the widget to say connected and secure when you then do a double of control panel and see the VPN tell back is missing and then check the app to find it stuck in some uncommanded “do you want to add this network to your trusted users” and “rate your experience” loop and actually not be connected or protected in any way. The bears are funny, the interface is simple but unless you nail the basics quickly and restore confidence then I go and find another VPN service that can..Version: 4.0.5
✓ Unsubscribing after McAfee acquisitionTunnelBear was great, but I do not trust McAfee to not run it into the ground, and more importantly now that they have a US parent company they will certainly be required to hand over all of your browsing history to the US government without a warrant and without informing the user. I will be unsubscribing, uninstalling, and with any luck getting a pro-rated refund. Edit: I understand that Tunnelbear as a company would like to continue operating independently, and maybe you will. That does not change the fact that you are now subject to US law as your parent company is based in the US, and no matter how much you don't want to surrender browsing data at some point you'll either do it willingly or the Feds will just come take it. I have reached out to support regarding a partial refund but I have not received a response yet. I guess after Tunnelbear gets your money they no longer care, which doesn't inspire much hope regarding your future..Version: 2.9
✓ Unfortunately doesn't help whatsoeverI'm out of my country of residence (Canada) and currently in India, and unfortunately tunnel bears VPN doesn't give access to any services currently blocked by ISPs here. For example: tiktok, crunchyroll, twitch, and many websites. After trying many servers on the app from around the world I've come to the conclusion that for the end user all tunnelbear is doing is slowing down my network and providing any of the services a VPN claims to offer. Would give 0/10 stars if I could..Version: 4.1.16
✓ Tunnel bearPurchased for China and found totally useless Did not work at all.Version: 2.14.4
✓ I guess it’s ok if you don’t do emailSo I took out an annual subscription aa I needed Wi-fi a lot as I am on the road . Seemed just fine until my BT accounts started throwing out errors. That means no emails. Solution is to turn off Tunnel Bear and go on 4G for a secure connection. Not sure how to make it work, yet. Hard to search their help stuff on my iPhone. If I click app support in the iTunes Store, I can’t connect because their connection is not secure. What’s a customer to do? When I get near my Mac I’ll try again but I just want people to about this especially since user support seems to be in some parallel dimension. Real pity as I can’t even evaluate it properly. An addendum. I cancelled my subscription. Bummer..Version: 3.2.2
✓ Slower internetI have fibre broadband and usually it's really fast without VPN but now it's slower and I'm connected to Mexico which is my closest server.Version: 2.5.4
✓ Deleted. Now owned by a company known to give away privacy infoNow owned by Mcafee a company known for giving up information about its users with very little pressure from government agencies. Your choice if you still trust this app to protect your privacy..Version: 2.12
✓ Doesn’t workAs soon as my data on the app ran out I purchased the £4.99 package. But when I restarted the app and tried to connect the VPN, it said there was an SSL error. I tried again multiple times, deleted the app and reinstalled it but it wouldn’t work, it wouldn’t even let me log in. So I tried to check the help pages but it wouldn’t let me connect to them either. I don’t know if it is my phone or what but I could connect to similar VPN apps successfully so I don’t know. Overall, it was just a complete waste of money.Version: 2.8.1
✓ Keeps logging off and supports BLMKeeps logging off of all my devices!!!!!!! Seriously a big pain ..would not recommend. And supports a terrorist group called BLM.Version: 4.4.2
✓ FixUsed to work fine, now whenever I try and connect it won’t load, and my wifi disappears during connection. Please fix..Version: 4.4.3
✓ Not worth itGave it a try for 3 months and used across PC and ios under iPad and iPhone, and used across Germany Kuwait and turkey...just not up to par. Can’t stream any service that is uses ip location like amazon-video Disney+ or Netflix. PC program crashes all the time, though chrome extension worked fine. iOS app would go possessed and cycle through connect/disconnect continuously until I force end the app. VPN’ing would go through spells of dead slow speeds, Europe vpns were a bit faster but US was like snail mail slow. There was also spells were I would go hours without being able to connect to any vpn location. I was lured by the low price and bitten by a cobra. I ended up I switching over to NordVPN and all issue disappeared. Would not recommend TunnelBear at all, and if TunnelBear is listening....it would be awesome if you could refund me the annual subscription price I paid..Version: 3.5.1
✓ It’s okayMy favourite moments are when the app logs me out for no reason or when it refuses to connect to the vpn server.Version: 4.4.2
✓ Unnecessary political agendaTried the app out for free on mobile and PC. Was impressed at the functionality, privacy policy and ease of use. Subscribed. Went to the icon change option in the settings and saw it full of options including BLM and LGBT propaganda. Completely unnecessary from a VPN service. We are all entitled to our opinions on these subjects. However, it doesn’t need to be front and centre in this service. Unsubscribed and uninstalled. Shame because the app itself works flawlessly..Version: 4.0.5
✓ It’s doesn’t workThis really got my hopes up then crushed me down. There is like no shows available in Canada so when I saw this app and it’s good reviews and how it was free I thought it was to good to be true, and it was..Version: 4.4.1
✓ Won’t workIt’s says connecting when I try to tunnel to a server it just say connecting so I leave it for five minutes then I come back and it says disconnecting... Worst VPN I have used.Version: 2.8
✓ Sort of ok vpnAlways have to manually activate this vpn when i close down airplane mode (which i use while travelling). Shouldn’t Tunnel Bear automatically reactivate when i reach a destination with wifi? 3 ⭐️.Version: 4.4.1
✓ 6-35% drop in Wi-Fi and 4G speed using TunnelBearBeen using TunnelBear VPN for a month now, on my iPad 10.5 and iPhone 7 Plus, I find the drop in D/L speed Mbps is around 6% on home BT wifi(35Mbps down to 33Mbps), and on EE 4G it’s 35% slower(37Mbps down to 24Mbps). These can vary tho but I’ve done a handful of tests before writing this to get an average. For every day use it’s not really noticeable the drop in speed pages load up at so I’m happy. The losing a star is for 2 things. First, Netflix will throw up an error and refuse to stream with TunnelBear VPN on, you have to switch it off. No getting around it, Netflix refuses to work. Second issue is using google, it will ask you to verify by clicking on the squares in a picture showing a car/signpost etc to verify your not a robot, very annoying and time consuming process. Common to all VPN’s? I don’t know.... Also to add that if you try the free version despite the promise of 1gb free data if u tweet them, they don’t respond. You have to go into ur online account to message them as whoever handles their twitter account has yet to respond to any of my tweets for free data like they promise. Annoying rather than deal breaking..Version: 2.8
✓ Unable to use in UAETotally unable to use this in the UAE - thought the whole idea was that this got around the stupid firewalls that countries like the UAE deem necessary to deploy to “protect”their citizens. Would be zero stars if I could.... waste of one months subscription for our UAE holiday. Update - sending a reply that I should contact support via a url that is blocked in the UAE really wasn’t useful - sending me details on how to fix the problem would have been more useful - as I said don’t waste your money if trying to get this app to work especially in Middle East - authorities have blocked access already so you can’t get around their firewalls..Version: 2.9
✓ OkayNot bad vpn overall. They do support several woke causes which is why I quit..Version: 4.4.1
✓ Victor KMy bear has problems connecting to some apps. I have to turn it off when that happens. Apparently some spammers know how to force popups or even change vpn and claim l need a secure vpn to continue. The bear needs to connect better and maul these bad hunters on the apps. I may get into trouble stating this but Google is a hunter itself because they know what’s phishing and spamming us but like a bad prosecutor ignores these baddies and may actually get paid by these robots. My Chrome gets high reviews but l have connections problems. Google even goes over any apps and vpns l believe. I am an American. I believe in the freedom of speech. We seem to have lost much on internet and Congress knows it. We have baddies insiders. Thanks TunnelBear for trying. But there’s still room for roaming the internet Forest..Version: 4.3.2
✓ Very slow connectionBrowsing internet on safari to book flights with loading page took for ages . Gave up and remove the apps.Version: 4.3.1
✓ Question?I have three star because it’s more of a question, it’s my first time using vpn so I just pressed a random state/country I’m I good to go now?.Version: 4.4.1
✓ Kind of good i guessSince it works for other people, ill give it a two star. For my mobile, i downloaded it but it kept saying “did it verify” or something like that, it didnt do anything on my mobile niether did it go in anybodys mobile that mine is comnected to.Version: 4.1.8
✓ UnderwhelmedSlick UI but failed to connect every time time I tried to use it.Version: 2.9
✓ Have to agree it just gets worse and worseI have read a lot of reviews and most recent ones seem to say the same. TunnelBear gets worse and worse for reliability. I am not a technical person so no need for any technical response from the developer. I only really use TunnelBear to stream UK tv and sports programmes when working overseas. I have had TunnelBear for several years and, by and large, it worked fine. However, not in the last 6 months. After EVERY update it is impossible to connect to the UK channels without first uninstalling the whole app and reinstalling!! If you are looking for reliability then I would look elsewhere. I will certainly now start looking elsewhere. You really need to read my review instead of giving standard responses. My problem is nothing to do with the channel providers. It is after every TunnelBear update that I have an issue. So it is related to what you do not others!.Version: 2.10
✓ Pretty goodSo far I’m using the free version and it works pretty well. I previously used CyberGhost’s free trial and between the two I like CyberGhost. TunnelBear sometimes take a little longer to connect, and it’s missing the crucial option to turn on a connection WITHOUT removing my home WiFi from the trusted networks list. That’s a big plus of CyberGhost. Also, I wish TunnelBear had more pricing options. For example, I can get CyberGhost for 3 years for only $99. On the other hand, TunnelBear costs almost $60 just for one year. That’s a big difference! Overall, TunnelBear is a decent VPN and is great for the very minimum, or a beginner VPN service. I appreciate that they still have a free tier available..Version: 2.14.4
✓ Boo!This app never works anymore, and it never sends me my free data for tweeting..Version: 2.7.1
✓ Troubles with connecting automaticallyThe app works great when everything is connected, however in its current iteration I have to disconnect then reconnect manually before I want to use the internet. Extremely frustrating, especially when opening push notifications. If this problem still exists when my subscription needs to be renewed, I will probably give another provider a go.Version: 3.1.2
✓ No dataIt’s quite a good app but after my first month my 500mb data wouldn’t renew and it kept telling me to get premium even though I should’ve had my data renewed. Please fix.Version: 2.14.4
✓ DisappointingI wasted my money on an annual subscription, and I’m finally moving on after being frustrated with this service for 6 months. TunnelBear disconnects multiple times on a daily basis without notifying me. I want a VPN that reliably runs quietly in the background without having to worry about forgetting to check if the service I’m paying for is actually working. Sometimes TunnelBear runs seamlessly, but more often it slows or even completely prevents browsing and downloads. Additionally, TunnelBear is detected as a VPN and doesn’t work with streaming. The interface would be user-friendly if it actually worked. The bear is cute, but that’s about all this VPN has going for it..Version: 4.4.3
✓ STILL not connectingFurther update (23 October 2018) Just received another random email from them saying they don't know enough about the problem to respond! What is it about what I have said below about it not working that is so difficult to understsnd? Sub has now been terminated. Further update: Ok. I can see from all the other comments that I am not alone and TB has no answers. TB’s repeated replies to complaints that we should go to a link which “resolves” problems is pointless and they must know this. They should be honest and admit they can’t overcome the BBC’s and others technology which blocks us so we can choose whether to terminate and get refunds. Very disappointing. Update: I am now back from my travels, in the U.K., and even here I am being blocked for “rights” reasons. So I can’t even use it in the U.K. This is a waste of money. I have contacted the TB tech people and they say they are working on the problem but meanwhile I am paying for a service I’m not receiving. The applications I use it for have been blocking it permanently for 2 weeks. Their suggestion for solving the problem - clear the cache, toggle the application - are a joke and I’m not paying for a comedy show. They need to get their act together Come on bears - sort yourselves out.Version: 2.13.1
✓ Frustrating connection issuesSeveral times in the month I’ve had TunnelBear, the connection is made and immediately broken. Then the process of connecting to the server starts over again. This happens during the early evening more than any other time. This leads me to believe there are too many users and not enough servers to handle the traffic. This will prevent your computer from closing the app, and from turning off. Additionally, the 176 Mbps service I have gets chopped down to 20 or less during high traffic hours it was under 5 mbps. I expected a slowdown but not that degree. Update. After a constant run around with the same recommendations from tech support and answering the same questions multiple times, I’ve decided just to give up on this app and uninstall it from my computer..Version: 2.11.1
✓ Want to be SJW campaign fodder?I noticed my app icon had gone monochrome and was concerned something had gone wrong. I checked if connected, checked it seemed to be working, gave up, came back next day to worry a bit more, then thought maybe there was a critical update I had not applied. Checked updates and received a BLM message. Still no explanation about why my icon was monochrome and no apology from TB for my wasted time and worry. What next month? Maybe pink, maybe rainbow? If the app is to be used as a social media platform this should be clearly stated in its promotional material so potential users are warned. We are paying for a VPN not to be social justice campaign fodder..Version: 3.5.2
✓ Works in some countries, not othersTunnel Bear does not work in Vietnam. Nor in Spain. Nor in Sweden. GhostBear is unavailable for iPhone. This app doesn’t have along shelf life..Version: 4.4.1
✓ Used it and it got 27 users using my networkAfter using this i tried to connect something to my network and it said that it was overloaded and i got help with it and it said there was 27 users using my network and the cause was a VPN. A vpn is supposed to prevent this not cause it..Version: 4.4.1
✓ Poor connectionsToronto and Montreal always have a shotty connection.Version: 4.4.1
✓ They are stealing your money !This app is cancel since 4 months and they still taking my money on my expired credit card ! Very hard to cancel membership, be aware !.Version: 3.5.2
✓ ProblemHey it’s great it says I have data but how do I turn it on please.Version: 2.14
✓ Auto-disconnect???Hi, after almost a year of excellent service the TunnelBear App now auto disconnects (maybe related to Apple’s recent iOS update?) when not in use, this is very annoying. I travel a lot for work and normally enable the App throughout the trip, it has worked perfectly up to my current trip. I would normally have rated this app as 5*, but I believe it only warrants a 2* due to this auto-disconnect issue. If it is a new feature then please state so on the main page. Thanks.Version: 3.2.2
✓ The geniuses need to rethink itI bought this virtual provider to book flights so carriers don’t charge me high Australian prices for flights I know I can get cheaper off shore. Every time I tried to book using this the airline site jammed and refused to work. Turn it off and bookings at full Australian prices worked. Airlines obviously have built in a detection system into their sites..Version: 2.12
✓ Looks pretty. Doesn't work.Used to love this app. Doesn't work in China or for Netflix though. Asked for a refund...got ignored. Sorry guys - not a fan..Version: 2.6.3
✓ Paid To Get More DataThe Ping is Kinda Decent But Can you Make it More fair Than paying money for more data? Becuase I couldn’t find any vpn apps that are free but can’t change the app to a cheap app or free?.Version: 4.4
✓ Used to be very good, now does not work nor service team cares.I have been using TunnelBear for the last 3 years and was very happy with the service and application until 4 months ago when connection to certain locations stopped working. I have notified Customer Service several times about that asking for help yet NOT once i got the reply and the issue was never fixed. I do however paid for a yearly subscription which became pretty much useless for me. I would now think twice before you purchase this app... sadly..Version: 2.10
✓ TunnellerIt’s been so great and now it is completely unreliable. I am trying to use my corporate WiFi with the VPN on my iPhone and it constantly disconnects (despite choosing the option for automatic connection). Now it will not connect at all (manually or otherwise). I am unable to access any of the help pages as my corporate WiFi is restricting access and the mobile internet is awful in my location so I can’t troubleshoot. Can you please fix the disconnection problem! I’ve just paid for the yearly subscription, so this seems a little coincidental....Version: 3.2.2
✓ Glitchy<12mnths use. Amazing, fast and reliable at first. Now constant glitching, bad connections, internet stops working, connection stops. Could be my network provider but it’s happening on two devices with two networks. Customer service are great! It’s just too irritating for user ability.Version: 4.1.18
✓ Doesn’t work, slows or stops InternetSadly this just doesn’t work well, it might for a minute or until you leave the app but after that in the background it doesn’t work. I want a refund honestly because it’s $60 which is ridiculous but Apple won’t refund it even though it’s a year subscription to a completely broken service. Slows Internet down or stops it completely and I’ve tried it now with 3 different routers, also I have excellent internet speed without it and I always have. Tested it across multiple devices too, same thing. The other very annoying feature in the app is not allowing you to just turn off the VPN, it forces you to put the network into your “trusted” section and then to re-enable the VPN you have to remove it from the trusted status. Ridiculous, just let me switch it on and off so I can try to fix this app which barely functions as it is..Version: 4.2.0
✓ App gone down hill and don’t buy on iTunes!Originally bought this last year and it worked like a charm. Unsubscribed and then signed back up yesterday and not only do any of the tunnels work but I signed up through iTunes and when I logged out of Tunnelbear as suggested by their customer service, I couldn’t log back in! Furthermore, I contacted customer service via their website and they still haven’t got back to me. The tunnel problem was that even though I tunneled to other countries, it still recognized my VPN in the country in which I’m located..Version: 2.14.4
✓ RubbishI have cancelled my subscription as the only uk channel I can get is channel 5. I am so disappointed as it always used to work but not now. What on earth happened??? Don’t tell me that the channels are getting more efficient in stopping it as other site are working. So tunnel bear you better do something about it or you will lose lots of customers. Perhaps you don’t care and only support USA. I have already tried all your suggestions and it still doesn’t work. When I was last in Slovakia it worked perfectly but not now..Version: 3.5.2
✓ Not keeping upI’ve been using Tunnel Bear for years and have been extremely happy until recently. I don’t feel that Tunnel Bear is keeping up with the changing Internet landscape and customer needs. Recently Tunnel Bear started pushing my VPN connection point to San Francisco, but I live in Central Time, which means you can’t watch prime time streaming shows as they come on after I’m in bed. Previously my connection point was always NYC area. Tunnel Bear’s response? Log off and on until you win the lottery and get NYC. I do that now, but after 10 attempts, I usually give up. Other VPN services are cheaper with user-selectable connection points. Tunnel Bear also doesn’t offer smart DNS and has given up on outsmarting Netflix and other services. Basically, Tunnel Bear grew a huge customer base, but now they are resting on their laurels and have forgotten us..Version: 2.11
✓ Constantly have to re-install vpn profileWhen the app connects, usually it works well but waiting for it to connect to a tunnel is a genuine chore. Sometimes I’ll wait well over 10min for a tunnel but then still have to stop the attempt and re-install the vpn profile which takes another 3-4min. I’m over it, and I’m abandoning ship..Version: 4.4.2
✓ Slow connection with PokerStarsThis app DOES NOT work up to speed with PokerStars. It’s horribly slow. And I’ve been trying to call to cancel and NO SERVICE!.Version: 4.3.2
✓ No sirveNo sirve te corta el internet.Version: 4.4
✓ Doesn’t connect to anythingUseless.Version: 4.3.1
✓ Tried it. It didn’t work deleted it.Read reviews. Thought it was worth a look. Installed it and registered an account. After around 15 minutes and many attempts to join the UK server it would not connect. So sadly the bear is no use to me. App uninstalled and account deleted and all within 25 minutes. Ok. Following the Tunnel bear saying please try it again, I did. Four days after my first attempt I had another go. I downloaded the app again. Created an account. Logged in and despite several attempts to connect it failed. It would not connect to any server. So after 10 minutes of trying again, I gave up. Again I deleted the newly created account and again I deleted the app. Another waste of time. Sorry bear, but this is the most toothless bear I have ever come across. Tried twice, failed twice. Time to move on..Version: 2.9
✓ OkDoesn’t always work.Version: 4.3
✓ Must we buy food for the Bear?Loaded up. Short trial consumed the 500Mb free monthly data. Turned off TunnelBear (so I thought) till I felt I might really need him again. Next morning my internet connections were slow or wouldn’t work. After thinking my internet was up the spout I finally started suspecting Bear was playing tricks. On closer observation I realised he just kept switching himself back on and with no food (data) left, he therefore blocked all my internet traffic. No matter how I tried to turn off Bear, he kept turning himself on and asking me to buy him food i.e. a monthly data package. No food.... Bear’s going to punish you. This bear is greedy, agressive and obstructive. Bear has been sent back up his own tunnel where he belongs. Bye!.Version: 2.12
✓ Mon opinionJe suis déçu je suis pas capable d’écouter rien !! Je suis de Quebec au Canada et en Arizona US pour 2 mois et je n’ai pas encore été capable d’écouter aucune émission du Québec !!!.Version: 4.3.2
✓ Length of time waiting for data to returnThe time to wait for bandwidth to return is way too long.Version: 4.4.1
✓ Used it from USA to canadaIt seems like TunnelBear is into censoring websites. I went to the advocate.com site to read the news, this is a gay website on issues. It was blocked. I turned off the VPN and was able to access the site. Its not blocked in usa and not in canada. Only on this VPN.Version: 4.4.3
✓ Nice Bear but cant watch tvLove the bear but struggle to watch any of the tv platforms with ease. a shame becuase i love the bear design etc..Version: 4.4
✓ Can be good but glitchyI agree with lots of previous comments that TunnelBear seems to be getting less and less reliable. A couple of years ago it worked all the time on both desktop and mobile. Now it frequently won’t connect to VPN at all (especially on mobile), and often on the desktop it does not successfully make websites think you are browsing from a certain country so is basically useless. I will not be renewing my year’s membership when it next expires and will try another service..Version: 2.11.1
✓ Nice app but..I don't understand why you have to wait for data to refresh over a span of 15 days. What if you're on vacation or visiting family in a country that most texting apps are blocked there? 15 days seems too long, in circumstances where you're in a country for less than 15 days, I don't seem to find reason to just wait instead of using a different one. Not only that, my internet stops working when I try to connect. it takes at least 5 tries to actually connect. Even after connecting, I still can't use apps that should be available in the country I've connected to. Overall, it's a good vpn with a few flaws that I'd definitely look over. Would recommend if you aren't on vacation or anything for a long time..Version: 4.4.3
✓ Please helpEverything was working fine until 2 months ago. Then 1 by 1 the UK Apps I was using abroad no longer worked - I was blocked receiving the message ‘not available outside the UK’ - So I gave up!! I then recently spent some time online and easily found information on how to get my apps working again!! I followed it and now they all work - unfortunately for Tunnel Bear with a different provider. Can Tunnel Bear contact me and can we get ‘their’ APP working like my new provider please?.Version: 2.14.2
✓ Terrible VPN, terrible support. This VPN has never worked properly since I’d purchased it in February. The biggest issue being it doesn’t allow communication from my five iOS devices and two Mac OS devices to Google search engine. And customer service is pretty much redundant. You know, “is the app current?” or “did you turn it off and turn it back on again?” Okay, the latter is something Apple does. Be advised that TunnelBear does not refund one bloody zinc Abe’s head (US) for this alleged VPN. They politely guide you to Apple, and Apple has become the largest money grubbing, fraudulent, don’t give one half a care about their customers. So one has to fill out the “report a problem” on the Apple site. And, suspiciously, at least in my case, the “refund” portion is greyed out. And then Apple responds with brilliant links to forums, etc. Gosh, why didn’t I think of that? I asked Apple to stop jerking me around and refund my $63 and some odd cents USD. I was told it would have to be elevated to the BoD because, clearly, Apple and their crony developers need the money. EDIT: As suspected, Apple denied my refund request. As far as TunnelBear goes, I just tried opening a .PDF email attachment and after 15-20 seconds, I was greeted with the all too familiar “no connection” banner. This happens when TB is active. Turn off TB and BAM! The doc opened immediately. No sense in contacted TB no-support..Version: 4.1.16
✓ Connection issuesHi I have using this app since last update I have been facing whole lot of issues like logging in take longer and even getting server omg which takes forever just keeps connecting very disappointing might need to look for something better now!!.Version: 3.5.2
✓ Usually pretty goodWhen working as advertised-- great! When it's on to access US sites, often can't open NZ pages or even open Google. Sometimes the bear end up in the ocean (around the Caribbean). Bear connects (digs to US) but TunnelBear app won't work.Version: 2.5.4
✓ Just add one featureThe app is overall great, connection is generally reliable and fast. However, the way the app manages Trusted Networks is clunky and often downright annoying. Instead of prompting a user to add a network to the trusted networks when they try to turn off the VPN while connected to that network, please add the option to temporarily disable the VPN for the network. Unfortunately, many web developers either intentionally or unintentionally make it difficult to use a VPN with their site, which ends up forcing me to turn off the VPN occasionally. That said, just because I get forced to turn off my VPN to have a feature/site work does not mean I necessarily trust the network forever in the future. There would be a few ways to implement temporary VPN disables (time limit, session limit, etc), which I leave to your expertise, but please change this and I will give 5 stars and not switch to another VPN when my subscription expires..Version: 3.5.2
✓ Affordable, fast, and user friendly. The title pretty much sums it up. I am not a techy nor am I 100% technologically challenged. I live on the internet, but not doing anything that requires Tor or anything that I don’t even pretend to understand the meaning or function of. If you want fast affordable and easy to use protection simply because it is nobody’s business what you are doing on the internet or where you are while you are doing it, then TunnelBear is the VPN for you. I used the free version to begin with, just to check it out. Worked great but kept dropping signal. I signed up for the Grizzly account for a year the beginning of December 2018 and never looked back. Highly recommend. Update December 2019: I renewed my Grizzly subscription through TunnelBear directly instead of Paypal. Hasn't worked correctly since. Causes iphone XR to drop wifi when it is connected, but most of the time it disconnects. I've contacted vustomer support.. we'll see..Version: 3.4.5
✓ Lacks good serversHad this got rid of it when I discovered Windscribe and got 60 gb’s a month free, this you wont get even 10. Deleted it . Not worth it..Version: 3.4.5
✓ This app? Meh.I have had this VPN installed for over 6 months and I’m not a fan. I mostly use this app on my iPhone. When I’m on a public network, the app just blocks all traffic. My phone shows I’m connected to cellular data, but nothing works until I turn off wireless. The app also prevents my security camera feed from loading, even if it lets me connect to the WiFi. It only allows the camera feed to work if I’m on a trusted network. On my laptop, I have to turn off the VPN or add the network as a trusted network to get online, pretty much defeating the purpose. After I’ve added a network to the trusted list, it tells me to turn on the VPN, like its not running. I was excited for it, but I think there are better choices with less complications. I’ll find out soon enough..Version: 3.0.1
✓ Connection issuesThe VPN won’t connect in China for some reason..Version: 2.14.2
✓ This is a grizzle.I will keep it short, I’ve read some fairly offensive reviews about the Bear, but I just can’t see what they are on about, I saw a review on it in a pc mag and decided to give it a try, I can honestly say it was very very simple to install and set up, and has been fault free, it’s not expensive and does all I expect from a vpn. You have nothing to loose except your privacy. But now there is a notice to say your communications may be monitored, well doesn’t that defeat its purpose? 🙄 NOW I AM ASSURED THAT THIS CAN NOT AND WILL NOT HAPPEN.......OK ALSO USING THE AD BLOCKER......EVEN BETTER !!!!.Version: 2.12
✓ Stay unpolitical plsStop supporting looters and rioters..Version: 3.5.1
✓ VPNFirst I'll start with the fact I appreciate this VPN as it is free and easy to use. On the other hand... this VPN configuration through Apple is not steady. Half way through searching on safari browser it will disconnect sometimes within the first 30 seconds and sometimes 1 min - 1hr ( completely random ). I've tested this on 3 different devices using 3 seperate wifi networks. Now for people using this VPN to remain anonymous I would definitely say this is a problem....... Please work on this.Version: 2.7
✓ Good but not 100% reliableReally enjoy using tunnelbear when it works. Nice app, simple to use, bear puns are often amusing and light-hearted. However, I'll quite often find that it will just stop sending any data after a while, turning off and on again sometimes fixes the issue but not always. Perhaps a indicator of the speeds of each country would be useful, so I know if the country is slow, or whether I have some other issue? I don't know whether this is an iOS issue or a Tunnelbear one. Noticed the map in the app goes a bit funny sometimes (missing tiles when connected). Also noticed the developers have fallen into the trap of having a 0:0 lat/long somewhere, so the app locates me in the sea off the side of Africa sometimes :-).Version: 2.7.1
✓ Default settings use a ton of batteryI tried to use this app over the past couple of months but finally had to delete it. The problem is that on the default setting using openVPN it used over 20% of my daily battery capacity, causing my phone to run out of battery before the end of the day. By switching to IKEv2, it could use much less, but performance was a problem, taking far longer to connect. Sometimes it would never connect and I’d be on plain WiFi. And at the same time the app still showed up in my list of apps using the most battery (albeit only at 1%). The last update before I deleted it had a bug that kept switching back to the unusable openVPN. Now I use the free version of a competitor VPN app on iOS, and that app always connects, does so fast, and doesn’t even show up in my list of apps using battery it uses so little. TunnelBear support was great and responsive, but there must be a serious problem with their iOS app development process..Version: 3.4.2
✓ Clumsy and poorly designedThey do update regularly-that is the good. They do not notify you of the update, they just do it. When they are done the app is turned off so you are unaware that you are unprotected until you figure out from problems that something needs to be fixed. That something is you must login to TunnelBear to enable it. You must go into the options and reset them because these people have not figured out how to carry settings forward to the update. In short, they update with no notice, turn the application off, and throw away your option settings. Clumsy is generous..Version: 4.4.2
✓ Video TutorialI have used and been happy with TunnelBear for several years. As a "novice" one of the reasons I chose TunnelBear was the wonderful video tutorials for set up and use that were on your website. I have recommended this app to many for this reason also. I now find that the tutorials are no longer there. I have had to apologise to many people for my erroneous statement when recommending it. Until the tutorials return I cannot recommend the app. This is a huge step backwards in my opinion..Version: 2.12
✓ Doesn’t work in some countriesI need VPN to work in a country that has strict network rules. TunnelBear unfortunately doesn’t work well and, after trying to get support, I was told simply that it’s something TunnelBear can’t do in those countries. This, despite the fact that other VPN providers do operate well. I have since switched to Nord VPN and they offered me several workarounds with which I am now able to use VPN where Tunnel Bear failed me. Replying to developer response: I have already been in touch with your support team. After the back and forth, the last communication from them was to basically tell me that it’s not workable in some countries and that if I’m within my 14 days, I can ask for a refund..Version: 2.12
✓ Do not buyIt use to work however now does not enable access. No customer support..Version: 4.0.6
✓ Slowest VPN I've ever used. What's the point of this? This is the worst service ever. Ping is decent No where close to my max bandwidth ***Can't select city*** USA and Canada are pretty big countries there's no reason to be connecting to California when you're in NY Pretty expensive compared to others - Find a different VPN!.Version: 2.7.1
✓ Very unreliableFrequently fails to connect, at least for me. The app UI hangs completely, while settings shows connection getting stuck on either “disconnecting” or “connecting”, the former more often than the latter. I’ve tried everything from changing servers, reinstalling the VPN profile and the app to rebooting the device numerous times. Other apps like 1.1.1.1 seem to have no problem connecting so I’m sure the issue is exclusive to Tunnel bear..Version: 4.1
✓ Not happy,!Not liking it. Can’t get sky sport now when I’m out of nz.Version: 4.3.2
✓ Issues with TBCurrently rating this 3 stars as since th last two updates, TB hasn't worked on my iPad and I have no idea why it doesn't, despite being compatible. I'll change my rating to 5 stars when it's fixed. Additionally, Tunnel Bear is the best VPN I've ever used. It's compatible with iOS devices as well as the PC. Even if you are unsure about it, you can try it and get up to 1.5 gb a month (you start up with 500mb and I you tweet, you get an addition 1gb). Thank you Tunnel Bear team!.Version: 3.0.2
✓ Got PoliticalTunnelBear got political. It doesn’t matter who you’re supporting nor why, just for the love of all that is holy, shut up and stick to providing a service. Politicizing yourself is off-putting to say the least. In response to the developer’s response: You don’t understand. By taking a political position (and when there are riots and public disagreement over such a movement, it’s definitely political), you have undermined your position of being a neutral actor. You are no longer a company providing a service, you are one with a political position. It means you cannot be trusted; where will it end? Will you convince yourselves in future it is okay to curate and censor what people can see and say online? What IPs they connect to? Sorry, but no thanks. Taking a political position, *any* such position, means you aren’t a neutral actor and should not be trusted to be one. Oh, and by the way, this update which presumably should have just changed an icon broke using your VPN on cellular networks for me. Great job..Version: 3.5.1
✓ Won't work on multiple devicesI wanted this to use on two of my IOS devices. Only works on one and wants a second purchase for another device.Version: 4.4.1
✓ Had issues with internet connectionThe app was working fine for me for awhile until one day my phone could not connect to my wifi or use my data which is why I had to uninstall the app.Version: 3.4.3
✓ Update not workingUpdated the app Not working anymore Paid a full year subscription Ends in a couple months.Version: 3.4.5
✓ Used to work well, but now not fit for purpose, a waste of moneyI have used TunnelBear to watch Spanish TV on a Tv app for years, but the TV app now picks up straight away that I’m watching from abroad and will therefore not broadcast. I’ve reinstalled the VPN etc, sometimes I get to watch a few minutes on my app and then it goes off with the “not supported in your region” message, most times won’t allow me to get on at all. Unfortunately paid for a yearly subscription which renewed automatically, money down the drain, wasted loads of time trying by all means to use it like I did before but no way is this working anymore..Version: 4.3
✓ FailedWorked once only..Version: 4.4.1
✓ No customer serviceI accidentally bought a year long subscription to TunnelBear instead of buying the monthly subscription as I did not realize the portrayed monthly price was for a one time year payment. I immediately contacted customer support through their email after finding out they have no phone customer service and asked to be switched to the monthly plan and a refund for the year subscription. After a week of receiving no reply at all from tunnel bear even though on the site in says up to a week of wait time, I contacted them again. After contacting tunnel bear at least 10 times I have gotten no reply from customer service. I’m very unhappy with the service and as I am a student the price for a year subscription was a big loss for me. I would not recommend this service to anyone..Version: 2.12
