✓ Used to be so great, so much promiseI used to just love this game, but the community here in the Bay Area is a ghost of what it used to be and for me the unbearably pretty and sparkly prime UI still disrespects the role play/time investment a serious agent has to make to really immerse oneself in the agent role of this game. Basically I just can’t pretend I’m an ‘agent’ anymore using a ‘scanner’ that looks so much like a stupid game. The old scanner was designed like a tool not a toy. The genius of the original Ingress UI and shtick was in the ‘make believe’. I just can’t make believe anymore no matter how hard I try The UI reminds me I’m just playing a boring and sadly declining game and nobody cares anymore if I accomplish the mission anymore. Hope someday this global friendly capture the flag get off your sofa concept gets a reboot cause for a time in my life it was a really great way to get a little exercise, meet great people and explore the world..Version: 2.66.1
✓ A Game in DeclineIf you haven’t started playing this game, you probably shouldn’t. The whole, “time to move” concept is a cruel irony since the hand full of people still playing the game are largely spoofing. If you like disappointment then you will love going out to the middle of nowhere to capture a portal just to watch it get taken back by someone who isn’t actually there. The spoofing is a growing problem that undermines the whole premise of the game and niantic is pretty much indifferent when you report it. This was probably a fun game once but like niantic, most people have lost interest in ingress prime..Version: 2.77.1

The lack of proper service - copy paste responses from a “support team” that honestly does not care. In game progress is rewarded by you having time to play, plenty of charge and network data, local competition and travel. ✓ A great idea, let down by its developersIngress is a lot of fun when it works (once you are past the initial steep learning curve) but at the moment it rarely does. There is so much lag that it feels like a chore to play. Your play time is constantly interrupted by frustrating delays of around 20-25 seconds where the game is completely unresponsive. Sadly the developers seem disinterested in resolving this and instead are concentrating on augmented reality, despite the proven indifference of their user base to this battery draining dead end. ✓ Prime is a step backwards.This rating is for the new scanner software (Prime), not the game. Ingress is a great game. However the new scanner is worse overall the old one. Inventory management has been improved, but actual play is worse. ✓ Enjoyable but for me lost interest....I have been playing Ingress for a period of time and played it everyday, now my interest in the game has deteriorated and I have had enough. From the first moments of putting resonators down as a level 1 and taking over a Portal which was exciting, to then see the portal taken out later that day by someone on level 16 back to nothing was a fight back and forward over months. To spend time walking, capturing portals, putting resonators and links down, destroying enemy things and levelled up to Level 6 in the end. After my IPHONE 6s crashing numerous times while playing the game due to the battery drain, the speed of the game loading and general use I have decided to delete the game. ✓ You messed with a good thingIf it’s not broke don’t it doesn’t need to be fixed. That’s how I felt when prime came out. I started playing in 2015 and after the change it was never the same after that for me and interest faded quickly. The game concept is great and the old scanner was great. I kept coming back to this give prime a try but the new menus and everything just never felt right and never sunk in. Asked for my account to be deleted. ✓ Ok gameI think the Prime version is a huge improvement on the game. Though honestly I don’t play much, there’s simply so much more going on in Pokémon Go and Wizards Unite (I’ve played all three and mostly play WU these days). Solo Ingress play is just kind of meh. I’m sure it’s a lot better if you find the local community. Communication about events also feels vague or fleeting. You can’t access news or an event calendar in game. ✓ The game is great and fun to play, but with every release the app becomes more and more unstable.I got to say I love to play this app. Its social aspect is great and you get to know pretty nice people. BUT, ever since two releases back the COM's button was working perfectly... Nowadays it makes the app unresponsive for minutes (5 to 10) and who knows what the hell is doing. If you task switch is worst, either kills the app (because it crashes) or renders the phone unresponsive and it takes a long press on the home button to get siri to switch to something else. Another thing driving me crazy is the fact the app goes bananas at some point in time and you need to shut it down and restart it to recover its functional state. It literally stops sending or receiving any action. You fire a XMP and you see the wave moving, but nothing happens. You hack a portal and it tells you the hack has failed... you drop items or try to recycle it and all of it is back once the app is restarted. When this happens is certain the app crashes within 10 to 20 minutes if you don't close it without any other human interaction. Seriously guys, before releasing anything else, try to fix the existing functionally. The app is getting unusable and is killing the mood of playing it..Version: 1.61.2
✓ Not like the old days in 2013The game became huge the summer of 2013 and then the updates started and in 2017 most original agents got frustrated with the complete remake of the game. The UX became crammed with too many objects and it became frustrating to use. Bring back the old app or enable a feature to have the old school layout back! ✓ Addictive Game Let Down By Buggy AppIngress is a fantastically addictive, augmented reality game, a cross between geocaching and capture the flag. Unfortunately the app makes it hard work sometimes. The app needs a good 3G data connection and GPS but even with both, COMMS fails to load more often than not. The speed between screens can drag somewhat and the GPS can take sometime to catch up. There are also lots of features droid users are blessed with that, whilst aren't fundamental to the gameplay, are completely missing from the iOS version such as passcode entry and picture submissions..Version: 1.59.1

✓ Wish I could play…I used to play this years ago with my dad and loved it. We even drove to an event in Florida many years back and then one day I was randomly banned and was confused as to what I did. When I tried to appeal it they declined it and I asked what I did wrong and they said they couldn’t disclose the reason. Some friends of my dad said that if you pick up items that someone had gotten illegally then your account could be banned and I’m assuming I picked up either keys or something else and didn’t know they were illegally obtained (since there’s no way to know). Because of how long ago it was I recently tried signing in and was met with “access denied”. Maybe I’ll make a new account and try to restart but if I remember, having multiple accounts was against the rules so who knows if I can do that….Version: 2.98.1

✓ IOS 14 is not “unauthorized modified client software”.Ingress is a game run by a company called Niantic, who profits from the free labor of those who play this game. Niantic claims they want to curtail cheating in their games but instead they punish large groups of people (with banning and accusations of cheating, detected by an algorithm they implicitly trust) who have been legitimate players and whose collected data made possible all of the success Niantic has had in their other games. What do all of these “cheaters” have in common? They installed iOS 14, which was detected as “unauthorized modified client software” by Ingress’s cheat detection algorithm. And through all of this, in addition to cheating going unpunished by actual offenders, Niantic engages in the barest minimum of communication with the “cheating” players who are confused as to what they could possibly have done to warrant their punishment. If you were interested in this game, I recommend looking for a game not made by Niantic. Unless you are okay with being labeled a cheater while the actual cheaters are still running wild and using automated means to cheat, stay far away. I would give 0 stars if I could..Version: 2.55.1
✓ Interesting premise but fails on delivery of gameplay contentThere’s no other game quite like Ingress, and for good reason. It’s surprisingly deep but also lacking in gameplay elements at the same time. This is a PVP game where you battle other agents in real life locations via the portals in game. Issue here is that the game became extremely dull when you are located in areas with few players. You cannot play the game anymore because almost all the gameplay is aimed at local in person PVP interactions. There really needs to be more marketing and dynamic content because there’s a huge opportunity here to have a fun engaging game. Live world events organized by players are the best part of the game but that’s pretty rare and you have to travel which isn’t really possible with Covid pandemic. My favorite part of the game because of lack of players for PVP is the missions for exploration of different neighborhoods. Unfortunately lately even that feature is broken and new missions are not getting approved. Overall I think this game really needs some rework as the gameplay concepts haven’t really changed in years while the player base has suffered almost a complete collapse in my area without new updates in content..Version: 2.56.2

✓ Worse than previous versionIt looks really slick, but this version is very hard to use. It will consume battery faster than any other application I’ve ever used and get about 1/3 of the battery life as the previous version. Recharging is much easier in this version, but attacking is entirely too difficult. ✓ New update is awful.Understanding that everyone will complain when something changes, my issue is with basic UI layout and design. The new update looks flashy, but like flashy webpages from 2004, things aren't easily labeled or identifiable. Even seasoned players are left doing the "what does this button do?", And "where did the button for [x] go? Is this it? Nooo.. is this it? Nooo...oh wait, this is it over here". Everytime I've loaded up Prime I've submitted through the menus. It's sincerely terrible layout. Everything has a black background, but also overlays each other and is semi transparent, meaning often the boundaries of the menu you're looking at aren't clear and bleed into each other. Inventory menus with no labels stretch 2 or 3 times wider than the screen so you're left scrolling, looking for your desired item every time. It's terrible, terrible design. I have no idea how anyone who has any design experience could make this UI. The devs had years to design and plan it. I'm absolutely stunned this is the best they came up with. What a mess. I say this to make it clear that I have spend considerable time with this game. In addition, I have allowed a lot of time to pass by before voicing my opinion on Ingress Prime. When this game was released on iOS in 2014, it played like a game well ahead of its time and looked like a game from 2000. Once Ingress Prime was released years later, it looked like a game from 2014 and played like a game from 2000. It is very unfortunate that the game Ingress has digressed so far. I have given the new version, Ingress Prime, a fair chance. The very name Ingress Prime is oxymoronic. There are a number of examples of games that started out very underwhelming. The developers listened to the players, adapted, and improved. As a loyal Ingress player, I feel that the opposite has happened in this case. An excellent game that was loved by many now has an average rating of three stars out of five. That is a significant drop. While I do not regret the progress I made in the game previously, I cannot, despite repeated attempts, continue to support this game the way I used to. Who is left are people who will stalk you in real life to protect their turf, and spoofers and scripters who can play all day from their couch without any of the real-world effort that once made the game so amazing. ✓ Prime looks slick but has loads of bugsOk so I’ve had Prime installed on my iPhone XS and so far: UI navigation randomly stops working forcing you to close and restart. Browsing your stats screen and then expanding the completed mission badges causes the close button to shift off screen. Player indicator doesn’t recenter itself if you tap on a portal while moving and then try to select another portal. XM meter randomly disappears. Alerts feed randomly disappears or redraws in the middle of the screen. Player name at the top of the screen randomly disappears. Percentage indicator bar that displays when trying a focused attack is far too big and obtrusive. This sort of stuff should have been picked up and squashed during beta testing.....Version: 2.11.2

✓ Pointless for newbies. How to get started?Latest update - I’m starting to get my portal submissions accepted. It’s only 7 years since I quit. lol. Update for latest version: You are now required to give access to your email to play the game. I don't like spyware. I'm not granting that access, so am forced to stop playing. Was also a pity they took away the option to propose new portals in a previous version. We waited a long time for that option! Original review: When the only players in the city are L1, the portals are L1, and the only resonators that can be placed are L1, the longest link that can be made is apparently 160m. Unfortunately, all the portals (if you can actually get to them!) are at least 5km apart. Without the ability to add portals it all becomes a bit pointless! Would also be nice if there was more to go on when choosing a faction. And would be nice to be able to zoom in/out on the intel map. In a city with more portals it can be good for exercise. However, it chews through an excessive amount of both battery and internet for some reason! Don't forget to turn off cellular data between portals or you will use a month's worth in one day easily! The iPhone's pseudo GPS is so inaccurate in many places (typically where there are portals) it makes it hard to get close enough to many portals theoretical position..Version: 2.72.1

Be warned there are players who take this game way too seriously who have used the game to stalk or harass people into not playing the game. Niantic will do nothing about it if you try to report them. People have actually followed my family members around in their cars (because none of them actually walk) and driven from other states to claim portals they are so obsessed with this game. The premise of the game is really unworkable. It sounds fun to go out and explore but no one actually does, and it is frustrating if you do and then have your portals taken back while you are still there but no one else is. If Niantic can’t stop spoofing then they should level the play field by creating their own spoofing platform. This game doesn’t actually promote building community and outdoor exploration. As far as I’ve been seeing it promotes bad behavior which Niantic seems to contribute to. This game has actually been a very toxic experience and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. If anything this is an example of a game that should actually be banned based on the type of behavior it promotes. ✓ Was awesome... wasBefore the Prime update, the game was exhilarating, I had a sense of excitement every time I played. The interface was easy to use and the general appearance was good and made the game look exciting, it’s now hard to see what I’m doing when I play. The new wire frame appearance in Prime isn’t tasteful. A lot of friends who used to play have also quit for similar reasons. I consider Prime a bad move overall. I miss the older version, the new setup is also confusing. I don’t feel like an Agent anymore, it feels like a low budget game now instead of something high tech and cool. ✓ Some good ideas but the basics are brokenI was looking forward to the UI update. However, too much emphasis has been invested in superfluous animation at the detriment of basic game play. Make a link takes a beard growing eternity. Don’t try to make a link to the last available portal. You can’t. Try glyphing after a link? Wait forever for the glyphs so much that I have to force quit and start again. And don’t get me started on battery consumption. Ingress was always lighter on juice than Pokemon Go (I go around with a PoGo player) but now it’s the other way around. I do like the quick way of using power cubes but everything else is poorer than before. I enjoy the real life fantasy underworld integration. I’ve been playing for 6 years plus. Competition can get a lil spicy. There’s many levels and layers to the game that, depending on your involvement, can keep you involved even when you can’t get out constantly. The cons…. In a word, CHEATING! There’s plenty of rules and regulations to help keep gameplay even for everyone. Where there’s a will there’s a way. And in this game there’s plenty of will for some reason. Some players have no problem using their tech savvy skills to take advantage of the players who don’t. Cases where it has been shown that internal staff gave access to players of a faction making the game benefit with confidential information to an entire group or the case of the photographer who worked for the same company and who was "wrongly" banned without evidence during a live event or all the Vanguards that have left stating that they do not support the current vision of the game are just some of the many things that show that the internal management of the game is deplorable and leaves much to be desired. They abet the spoofing by incentivizing it. They do this in ingress by leaving traces of the cheaters on the game board, even after they get banned, if they get banned at all. They abet the spoofers by making it easy for them to troll, by allowing them access to boosts at low levels, by allowing them gear codes to obtain gear they don’t earn or deserve. They abet Spoofers by not implementing a reporting mechanism that can quickly freeze a harassing account so that it can be investigated for more action if necessary. Niantic has lost thousands of customers because they continue to ignore the problem and ignore the advice and begging of their paying customers. Living in Hawaii there’s only so many unique portals and so many missions without having to travel really far… I figure that’s very similar to the problems rural players have. Having been back to playing it’s still a fun game concept, with slightly less money grabbing by Niantic than Pokémon Go or the new Peridot. “Recycling” items for xm makes a lot of sense that I wish Pokémon Go would do for its items. ✓ Unfair gameIn my city green outnumber blue by 5 to 1. Probably higher, It’s impossible to progress in the game when you have 5 players against you, every portal you claim, it gets taken back over within minutes, they seem to be but hurt they lost a portal. It’s sad. There needs to be a 12-24hour stand down period where if a portal is taken over, it’s then immune from being attacked, give the opposition time to fight back, It’s also impossible to take down huge fields. For this same reason, it’s back up within minutes, huge fields should have a higher deterioration rate. And last only hours. And not be able to be recharged. for many of these players they seem to waste hundreds of $$ on petrol per week and they play while driving,have plenty of free time and just play this game like they have no life. They seem to own 1000plus portals each, compared to us who can’t even own one portal. So it’s not fair play, I also don’t get their logic of not playing less, it would benefit them as we could get fields established and links, that they could destroy for their medals. You can also spot those players they have recursed 5-10times. Playing for years. Seems like a boring way to spend life, Because this unevenness our team don’t want to play. It’s losing players. So soon the green team won’t have anyone to compete against, so I’m quitting and hopefully in a few months many of those green players have quit. I liken this game to chess.
