Lumosity: Brain Training for Negative User Reviews

Not eligible?!I have tried to sign in five times and it says I’m not eligible. The app if over four plus, I’m over four, It wants my email, I put in my email. No matter what it won’t work!.Version: 9.33

Elevate is betterI have tried both Elevate and Lumosity for a few weeks now and I find Elevate more interesting. The daily free doze of Elevate is more enjoyable and enriching than that of Lumosity..Version: 9.74.1

Terrible customer supportI’ve been automatically billed for a monthly Lumosity subscription for close to 9 months, but each time I’ve tried to use the app, I’m locked out of the premium content *that I have been paying for*, and shown a screen giving me the option of signing up for a premium membership. Absolutely frustrating. After several attempts, I was able to get in touch with a Lumosity customer service rep whom I sent screenshots of my billing statements. The rep said I hadn’t been a subscriber according to their system since May 2018, and that Apple, rather than Lumosity, was in charge of handling refunds. Alright, that doesn’t solve the problem of the app not working as it should, but if I can get a refund for the months I haven’t had access to the app (since May 2018), I could be ok with that. I contact apple, and the maximum refund they offer is for a single month’s charge. Oh also, according to Apple, I still had an active subscription, so then the rep James at Lumosity not only failed to fix my issue of the app not unlocking content I had paid for, he gave incorrect information about my subscription status, and furthermore, didn’t seem interested in actually helping me resolve my issue. So ~$12 x 8 down the drain, and neither Lumosity nor Apple will take responsibility, it seems..Version: 9.53

Just 3 gamesThe games is really cool but we just have 3 games by day andif we want to have More games we have to pay, that’s sad..Version: 9.74.1

Attrition vs Quality - which should inspire a purchase? The free version only allows you to play 3 recommended games per day. While these games are fun and slightly challenging at first, they start to repeat very quickly, and I found myself groaning, “oh no, not this again!” Unlike other brain games out there, I didn’t get a sense of progress. There were no achievements or rewards. Moreover, I was unable to train in any specific categories. This likely isn’t true if I were using the paid version, but how do I know for sure?! You gotta give me a taste, man! Nearly every feature and a plethora of over 50 games are locked behind a pay wall. A wall which I was never inspired to climb. I’ve always been one to pay/support apps I enjoy, but sadly, this one seemed more nettlesome than fun or scientific or educational. It left me asking, “why is this so popular?” and thinking, “there are way more rewarding apps of this caliber which warrant my money because they made me say ‘give me more’ without giving me almost nothing.”.Version: 9.88

Some activities need rehaulingSome of the games are poorly designed and would benefit from a rehaul. The river animals being one. As a mobile game, most of the time you fingers are covering where the next animal appears, hence tapping blindly as the animal disappears before you get to move your finger away (from the previous tap) to identify the creature. The pinball matrix is another one that would need some tlc too Additionally, the entire app is focused on quick solutions rather than letting the user try multiple times. This mentality is detrimental to taking your time to learn something and focuses rather on quick wins and instant gratification. If that was my ambition, I would play angry birds or candy crush. I’m here to learn and grow — even if that takes time..Version: 9.88.1

No further development it seemsI’m a paid member and have enjoyed the service for a little bit… but the longer I’ve had the service, the more disappointed I am in its development. It advertises as having new games being added and developed, yet I’ve not seen a single new game in a year. In fact, I’ve seen a poorly designed beat game listed as Early Access for about the whole time I’ve been subscribed. This leads me to believe that development on this app has completely stopped. Possibly so their team can develop their other apps, which I am not a fan of. This is your flagship product, and it appears to more or less be abandoned by the devs. I’ll definitely not be renewing my membership this year, as I’m paying a subscription for something that is no longer being serviced to a level that’s expected with a paid subscription. I would change my mind if I actually saw active development updates instead of just “bug fixes” updates..Version: 9.88.1

Buyers remorse, buyer bewareBought this app, paid for a full year subscription. I had been running for a while on the free version and thought I should support it. The buyers remorse came very quickly. When I got the paid version I came to the realization almost immediately that it is far better off sticking with the unpaid version. Games can become ridiculously hard at higher levels. Some of the games are very nearly nonsensical. There is one called fuse clues which involves inserting numbers into a numerical sequence. When you get to a higher level you get, for example, two clues out of nine spaces and there is absolutely no possible way to determine the sequence. It becomes frustrating very quickly. There is very little sense of accomplishment and the frustration detracts from what should be a positive, learning experience. When you first get the app, it can be fun. But if you stick with it, and rise in levels on the various games, getting to the higher levels Will likely result in hitting a wall and not being able to progress any further. That is where I'm at. Hence the buyers remorse comment. Also, just an observation. This is at least the third time I've written a review. They keep getting taken down. At least that's what seems to be happening..Version: 9.44

GlitchesOverall very Very poor reps after exchanging emails. Dev team needs to address simple glitches and thus customer service is lacking..Version: 9.88.1

It's litI kinda love this app so yeah.Version: 9.19

Great on iPhone - not good on iPod touchI love this program and having the app for on the go training is fantastic - after using for two weeks I upgraded to the family subscription so my son could train too but unfortunately it seems to continually crash on the iPod touch. iOS version adequate but it won't work - very disappointing. Low star rating is due to the iPod issues- if I was only rating it on the iPhone I would have given it five stars.Version: 2.51

Charged the full year without knowing it.I have liked Lumosity and their 3 free games. I paid for a year one time so I could have unlimited usage. I used to work in the brain training field and would refer clients to this site all the time. I still do when people find out what I did and ask me for suggestions on how to help get over their learning disability. Recently they had a free two week trial that was fun but I realized that I’m in a different stage of life with 3 young kids and I never used it to its advantage. Then they automatically signed me up for another year. I understand that I needed to cancel, but it’s one thing to charge me month by month and another to charge me for the year! I’m really mad as I don’t have $60 to spend on this and I can’t get a refund! I need to pay bills, not play Lumosity for a year. 😡 I feel taken advantage of and do not trust the company anymore. There are other sites for brain training that I will now use and refer people too..Version: 9.56

Free play for a few days?Says a free play of pet detective but don’t know how to get it unless I download app again and do the trial? Please advise? I loved the classic version, mostly for concentration but need a bit more than that?.Version: 9.84

This app is a SCAM!Paid for the 1-year subscription and it unlocked nothing and is still trying to get me to pay for the “premium” features. Way better, less expensive apps out there..Version: 9.88.1

Too expensive for a gameI've loved Lumosity for a long time but as I study for the GRE, I wanted to test the premium version so I can use the specialized math + language training. I tried switching my subscription from annual to monthly before my trial finished, but they make it difficult to do through the app because you have to go through the iTunes Store app which I deleted long ago, so I figured I'd delete some space then download the app again just to cancel a subscription. But then when I was charged I went back and that's when I realized the trial was only 2 weeks, unlike a month like most subscription trials. That same day I tried emailing them, but it's been days and no response (they said I should hear back within 48 hours). I didn't even request a full refund because I still want to use it for the next month until I take the GRE, but they couldn't even do that much. So now I'm stuck with a $60+ subscription for a game that's been free to me for years..Version: 9.44.1

Expensive. Why?Why is this app so expensive? I enjoy the games but, OMG, it’s way too expensive to pay for unlimited..Version: 9.66

ThievesIt is boring and a waste of money. Repetitive. They took a year’s subscription from me when I was only intending to pay a month. I am not happy at all..Version: 9.24.3

3 Games Only - BrutalWhy even bother getting the free version you only get 3 games. Don't waste your time..Version: 9.18.1

Liars, horrible people and thieves.Stay away. There are far better, more reliable, better games AND free. IF...(in 3 yrs, once I contacted them it was fixed that afternoon). Luminosity is usually a weekly if jit daily problem. Management are liars, company is thieves, no morals BUT very creative with their lies. Occasionally they do slip up and reoeT the sane ones, but usually different ones. 1-2 times a week to contact them. 3-8 days to get a reply, when they do, you’re the first person EVER to have that problem. It’ll take a soevuakust, if they can find ive ajd then some time to look for a repair. 2-3 months. If you stay in them, they’ll finally respond. It WILL HIWE ER he an additional lie, they’ll cancel your account . Then say you requested a refund. BUT if you just ask fir a refund they tell you Apple is the only one that can do tgat. If you write them back and tell them Apple said they didn’t do it, it was the app developer, they’ll agree, but then say they already refunded you. SUCH LIARS.Version: 9.74.1

New update is terribleAfter new update, games change multiple times per day. And content is laggy..Version: 9.29.1

Good app but Greedy DeveloperWell made app with plenty of potential however £8.99 a month is pure greedy. I appreciate the developers need to make a living however there are plenty other apps out there that charge half this. The developer needs to look at their sinews model, I believe by lowering the subscription cost they will massively increase their subscribers. For this reason I deleted and have gone to find a similar app elsewhere..Version: 9.87

Good app, shame about the price. It’s a great little app. Slick, fun and nicely challenging. Shame they’ve opted to go with a subscription model. I’m sure they’d get more uses if it cost less or if there was a one-off purchase option. Even with the discounts they start to throw at you, it’s still around £40 per year. That’s too much, I think, for what this app is. You could buy a console game for that, and own it. Or you ca pay much less money one-off for other apps of equal quality. Or you can just carry on using the limited version of this app for free and hope that one day the developers lower the price or move away from subscription-only..Version: 9.31

It’s a good game BUT MAKE THE FREAKEN GAME FREEThis game is good but PLEASE PLEASE MAKE THIS GAME FREE!!!! For example... schools are free and there giving u real education..... this game isn’t even that educational and u have to pay?!?! This makes no sense at all!!!!! The only thing that could make this game better is to make it free so plz listen to me and all the other people out there who don’t want to pay.Version: 9.74

Please don’t waste your time! This app kind of disappointed me. It’s basically asking you to buy the whole thing. You can only play 3 games each day, if you want to play more, you need to buy premium. Not everyone has extra money to be spending on a BRAIN game. We’re here to expand our learning! Not to pay for everything! If I could rate it 0, I absolutely would. A big DISAPPOINTMENT. Definitely would NOT recommend..Version: 9.62

ExpensiveThe games are fun but it only gives you an option to play the same 10 games unless you pay $100 a year for “premium”. As if life isn’t expensive enough.. let’s fork out $100 for an iPhone app! Not worth the download unless you want to pay for premium..Version: 9.68

Needs a dark mode then 5 star.I like this app, but it seriously needs a dark mode..searing eyes in a dark room isn’t fun..Version: 9.88.1

Wish I could playUnable to login to my account.Version: 9.88.1

Yet ANOTHER Subscription....This game seems OK but is it really worth £40 a year? What is it with all the subscriptions these days. There big budget video games out there like Red Dead Redemption 2 that take years of programming, thousands of programmers, marketing, no doubt lots of very clever minds coming up with many solutions to many problems, paying for the top talent in the business, over heads for properties and all sorts.... these games cost £40 and when I buy them I own them.... £40 is PURE GREED on your part £40 per YEAR is crazy. Unbelievable..Version: 9.55

Love the games but no technical supportHave tried to subscribe to this App twice. Each time it doesn’t let me log on. Checked help forums and info on Google, but nothing worked. This should be an easy fix, but there is no way to chat with support. One has to submit an email and wait AT LEAST two business days. So if you subscribe on a Saturday, the very earliest you will hear back from the help desk, assuming you do hear back, will be 4 days later. The second time I subscribed, I submitted a help email, received an automated confirmation of my email, and 10 days later I have still not received a response. First time I’ve had this happen with an App. I submitted a follow up, asking about the status 4 days ago but haven’t heard back from my follow-up request. I give up!! I will play the free games but had to cancel my subscription cause I can’t pay for an App I can’t access..Version: 9.88.1

JunkThis is such a stupid app. Don’t listen to any of their deals or false advertising on these games sharpening your brain. Some games do but these r junk. We looked it up and these games actually don’t do anything to your brain or me worry. Don’t fall in to this trap. Such a waste of money and bad game. Do NOT buy.Version: 9.74.1

Paid MemberI’ve been a paid member for years, they say there is new games coming but I haven’t seen any? Years and years and nothing new? I won’t be renewing for another year. Why do I have to pay yearly when nothing new is added? Feel like it is a bit of a scam?.Version: 9.88.1

Mixed messagesWhen I try to sign up for a game that claims to be for 4+ I do expect it to work for someone age 12. Apparently not, you cannot create an account if you are at that age. Therefore, I cannot play the game at all, and if I were to lie about my age to be able to create an account, I would be given false information, while I do not doubt that the rave reviews from older users are well deserved, from a younger persons point of view, this app falsely advertises and discriminated against the younger generation, whether this is due to a lack of demand or your opinion that we are somehow less able to pick up skills (despite the fact that your app is directed at people who aren’t able to pick up skills easily) it is still irritating and unfair. This should be changed!.Version: 9.84

READ BEFORE DOWNLOADINGThis app has good games but you have to pay for almost all the games. This doesn’t even deserve one star. This deserves 0 stars. DONT DOWNLOAD UNLESS YOU WANNA WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!.Version: 9.88.1

DisappointingAt first I found the training and games interesting and helpful. Now I find the games and training repetitive and somewhat boring. The new games do not interest me, so I don’t bother playing them. The training needs to lend itself to more variety, creativity and originality. It needs to be rejuvenated..Version: 9.76

NewbieI don’t write many reviews but I was so annoyed that I thought I would. I downloaded the app recently after I saw a commercial. I didn’t mind using the free app as I was learning more about the program because I wasn’t ready to spend money on the Premium app if I didn’t think I would use the app. So tonight I was excited to see that Lumosity was offering a 25% discount because they were being featured in the App Store. It peaked my interest and I considered going ahead and paying the annual fee. Then I realized that they raised their prices by about 25% and then offered the discount. That’s just rude. I just downloaded this app last week and looked at the Premium price so I know how much it was before the “discount”. Now I’m just so annoyed at the Lumosity’s business practice that I’m not sure I even want to continue using the free service. It’s a shame that people are greedy, it seems like a fun and helpful app..Version: 9.51

Weirdo moronI’ve said mean lies about people and people have said mean lies about me, I just want everyone to move on and be happy. If not that’s fine up to everyone . Sorry..Version: 9.88.1

Bad!The video at the top makes u think it’s free, but all of it is premium! U only get games if you choose them in ur set up, and u only get one game! The next day, the games u like are locked. That is rlly a scam, Everyone delete this! Will result badly..Version: 9.88.1

Eventually stops helpingThe biggest problem with Lumiosity is that after a while it stops helping you train your brain and instead cause chaos and frustration making it detrimental. Once you reach your threshold to be able to complete a certain level mostly towards the end, you go from training your senses and just get frustrated you just keep failing at a particular level. Most would think just keep at it but it eventually just becomes harmful to your mental help your inability to complete the level no matter how many times you try. There needs to be some intelligence in understanding stopping a persons progression or just ability to play manageable levels daily would be the best way to continually train your brain..Version: 9.36

OkThis game ok. You only get three games so yeah.Version: 9.48.1

LumosityI like this app a lot as it does train your brain . However , you only get to have 3 games a day and the rest are all locked as you have to subscribe and pay for that. I don’t think you should have to pay as its brain training and we want people to be clever. Also , we downloaded it wanting to get the best app and have great brain training but it only give you a choice of three games every day so the app would be a lot better if everyone could have access to all games and mindfulness e.t.c . Other than that I think it’s something that can really help and it also gives you emails when something new is happening or an offer ..Version: 9.31

DisappointedI was excited to get this app so I could train my brain and I know a few people who have this app and say it’s really good. And the reviews seem to say the same thing. But for some reason when I signed up and put my name, email etc. It flashed a sign that said 'Sorry, you’re not eligible to create an account.' I don’t know what I have done wrong with the signing in and if I misspelled something and the worst part is that it won’t let me to try and resign-in either so I downloaded what I thought was a cool app for nothing..Version: 9.85

Be very carefulI used to be a paid member. I cancelled auto renew last year and they still took money out of my account this year. I got it back, but what if I hadn’t noticed?.Version: 9.74.1

It’s not really science - it’s just another scamLuminosity is the typical door opened to bring you into their scam to collect your personal information in an effort to get that money out of your pocket. There isn’t a product to help you recover from a brain injury like they advertise - if anything it’s a criminal scam. You can’t delete an account not fully created without logging in and giving more personal information. You can’t login to delete said account until you take multiple tests which allows them to collect personal data from you. There’s no phone number listed to contact them directly - another layer of scam. No physical address listed to send them a letter requesting they delete your information - all scam levels under the guise of “good natured care”. All that to sell your information to the mental health field and yes they will sell your personal, vulnerable information. It’s a scam..Version: 9.87

TerribleThe App Store says that the game is for 4+, but when u get on and enter your age/Date of birth it won't except my age ( 12 ). This is just so annoying, I can't believe that I can't use this app (with 4+ appropriate content) because of my age !!! I feel like this needs to be fixed, There are probably a lot of people my age who would want to use this app, but can't . If this app take information from how you play, surely they would like to see 10+ people using it, it would bring in more data. It's so stupid, if people my age are interested in this app, let me safe you the time and effort by telling you there is absolutely no point !!.Version: 9.38

Good app but not entirely freeThe app lets you play games which challenge each part of your mental abilities (memory, flexibility, math etc). Thus each day you will be playing 5 games (3 if you are free version user) that challenges each particular mental part. The app has multitude of games for each part, however a free user can’t pick which games to play. As 3 games are seem to be randomly picked daily, and those are the ones you can play if you have no premium version. Alongside that you can’t track your progress or compare your score to other users to get your general idea on global average. Thus if you got spare 80$ go for it, would definitely be a good way to give your brain some workout..Version: 9.88.1

Overpriced and aggressive salesI don't know how people can afford these prices, I obviously cannot. I'm perfectly happy staying on the free limited version but this app is overly aggressive constantly pushing you to go premium. This is honestly a great app but I'm deleting it after writing this review because I'm tired of constantly saying no to going premium. I keep saying, only the rich can get good mental health care and this app is no different..Version: 9.88.1

Like to take your money. They are quite devious at taking your money and it’s hard to get the auto renewal to stop. My father hadn’t used his account in ages and forgot his password. All the links were conveniently not working to have it reset. I sent a unhappy email and the account was simply closed, no customer service, no we’ll try to fix the problem. Nothing. Don’t waste your money on a company that likes to take advantage on the auto renewal with non existent customer support when trying to stop it..Version: 9.88.1

What a shame you can’t just buy itIf you could just buy the whole of this app (like when you used to be able to buy a game, and then have it and own it) that would be so, SO much better. Instead, it wants to charge you an overpriced subscription, taking quite an incredible amount of money from you. I would say, overall, this app would be worth paying £10 or £15 for, as a total one-off price (though realistically, I myself wouldn’t be tempted to buy it for any more than £10). It’s nicely made but very simple. We’re not talking Grand Theft Auto 5 here, after all. Instead it wants to charge you much more, forever, so you end up paying £hundreds or even £thousands. Don’t do it, folks! :).Version: 9.46

Cancel my membershipI want to quit my membership immediately. Why do you make it so difficult to do this?.Version: 9.88.1

PREMIUMI don’t write reviews, ever, but I NEED this off my chest. I saw this app on some commercial on a game I play and thought it would be fun. It would help me rewind, make my brain work faster I guess, and, overall, rework my brain with its speed, attention and math, just like it was advertised. I downloaded, set up an account, went through the tests only to discover that Lumosity only worked well if you spent MONEY. You only get 3 games with the free version, can’t do the math portion and it won’t track you as a person. It’s horrible! Do not recommend! I’m only giving this two stars because if you’re not like me, and have money to spend on useless things like this, it might be worth your time. But it’s not worth mine and anyone who is just looking for a nice app to relax playing and learn a bit at the same time. My recommendations? Add a few more aspects to the FREE mode. Here’s one way: have half the games unlocked, the other locked for premium. Example: if you have 50 games, 25 of could be for free, and the 25 have to unlocked by paying. And don’t leave one option out, like you did with the math games. Have at least one. Also, add a tracking mechanism to the free one that is set up individually, and add a more highly functional one to the premium aspect. I don’t care honestly, just make it more than 3 games so I don’t get burnt out in 2 minutes and maybe this game would be worth it, because right now, it’s really not..Version: 9.52.1

Good app but crashes and doesn’t save your progressThis is a really good app with a lot of variety but I find the app crashes a lot in the sense it pauses after a challenge has been complete then you can go no further and it hasn’t saved your work out. I find this happens a fair bit (app is updated of course) and it’s extremely frustrating..Version: 9.18.1

Lambchop's reviewI have been playing three games most mornings for a month now. I enjoy replaying so I can get a higher score next time. I haven't played every game as of yet, as I haven't subscribed. I think it's a lot of money for only one year. I'm not sure I would pay that much for a game if it was to buy out right, eh maybe not sure . I've never paid more than £15 for a app. I'm just not sure about the subscription and as of yet none of my family feel they would pay for the full package. So I can't give a full review as I haven't played all the games or seen the locked areas. My Dad has my whole family hooked we all like different games and are all on different levels having different skills and ability so we all work at different paces. I have Dyslexia and memory problems with confusion from having sepsis and having other disability. So I at first found it extremely hard to concentrate on some of the games and levels. I don't skip I just try my best even though I get frustrated and mad at my dumb mind I keep trying to smash my scores each time..Version: 9.24.2

SCAM ALERT!I have lost my job due to COVID-19 and Lumosity was a great escape for me and helped me expand my brain level and helped me be calm despite losing my job. It will also probably help me get a new job as my IQ has increased by A LOT and I got to say thank you to Lumosity for that. But here’s the thing, this app and the Premium is a CHEAT. I wanted to try Premium for two weeks so I bought the free trial and realized that I didn’t like it that much. It literally said cancel at any time as long as you cancel it 24 hours before and I literally cancelled it a day after I bought it. Even when I cancelled it, the subscription isn’t going away and I’m going to continue getting payed. Literally a day later, I got terminated from my job. I already have a lot to stress about right now and this is adding on to my stress. How am I supposed to pay for a mind training game when I can’t even pay for my bills on time? Now, I know this was super long, so let me summarize. The lesson learned is DON’T FALL FOR THE FREE TRIAL. These people have probably teamed up with Apple to earn money and make everyone who purchased the free trial broke..Version: 9.77

Great app, not-so-great-privacyOverall, I love Lumosity. The games are fun, challenging, and appealing to the eye. However, through even a brief skim through the app’s overview on the App Store, the amount of data collected stood out as highly concerning to me. I just don’t understand why this app would need to collect things such as internet browsing history and personal media. It displays itself as a generally self-guided app with no logical need for most of the information collected. It was a major red flag to me, so I unfortunately had to uninstall. I was even considering buying a subscription until I truly dug into the privacy policy of the app. It really sucks that it came down to this..Version: 9.88.1

The games a really fun and well designed but.... it’s a scamAlthough the games are challenging and often times frustrating in the best way as well as the smooth design. There’s is no evidence to suggest that it actually “trains your brain” anymore than playing candy crush or subway surfers do. I will still continue to use the app however I strongly advise not to get the paid version if you want to “train your brain”. But if you enjoy the challenges and want to see your progress then by all means do it..Version: 9.74.1

Do some research before payingI don’t dislike this app at all, in fact I don’t have much of an opinion on it. That being said I would suggest anyone that is interested in paying for premium to do some research first. All the reliable studies I have seen can’t find a correlation between these kind of “brain-training” apps and actual cognitive ability. Instead the people using these apps just got better at the games, with no indication that they were actually improving in any way that transfers over to daily life. For me I ranked in the top 90% in almost all categories on my FIRST time playing! This doesn’t make a lot of sense because I have a neurological disorder that makes me pretty slow and anyone that knows me knows that I’m pretty much the opposite of traditionally smart. That being said I played a lot of video games when I was a kid so I blame my scores on that. If you think this looks like fun and you want to try it then go ahead but don’t be tricked by the company’s promise that you will get smarter..Version: 9.52.1

You have to payThe games are cute and fun but you have to pay if you really want to benefit. They only prompt you to make positive reviews..Version: 9.19

Color selection is strangeI have premium version for about 4 months, and in general I feel good about it. The biggest complaint I have is about color selection in Pirate Passage and Masterpiece. In Pirate Passage they are using very limited colors, say two shades of very dark green, so that it is difficult to see the difference between them. Masterpiece is not so bad, but still when outside lights conditions are not favourable it is hard to see difference between two shades of dark blue. Please update your games by using more distinctive colors: use red, blue, green, yellow, rather than very dark green and slightly darker shade of the same dark green..Version: 9.88.1

DisappointedThis appears to be a neat little app, giving personalised training. But my birthdate was completely ignored, despite being asked to enter it I am recorded as being born on the first day of the new millennium, so my scores were compared to a totally wrong age group, which was very discouraging. I may be in my second childhood, but I don't want my mental capacity comparing to teenagers! This needs sorting if I am to be persuaded to upgrade to the premium version..Version: 9.35

Not impressedThe first thing you'll be asked to do in Lumosity is play 3 games based on well-known psychological tests to establish a baseline. After each one you get a "you outperformed X%" comment. After the three games are complete... nothing. No consequence or conclusion. No personal recommendations. Just a menu of more games to play. So what was the point of that beginning? I went digging in my profile to find some stats, and when I eventually did they were totally inconsistent with the numbers previously given. Which means that the back end of this, the bit which makes it about you, doesn't work. If you just want to play trivial puzzle games then this app is fine. But a learning and development companion it ain't..Version: 9.88.1

Expensive subscription serviceDon’t waste your time.Version: 9.24.1

Good app, shame about the priceI have tried most of the games available through the app during the Premium trial period. They were decent, although not hugely different from those in other ‘brain training’ apps. The price tag, unfortunately, is far more than I’m willing to pay per month for an app subscription (£8.99). Many other apps offer reduced rates during or after the trial period and I was hoping this might be the case, but no such luck. As it stands, I will stick to another app with very similar games at only £2.99/month (on special offer)..Version: 9.74.1

Pay for everything! The app is ok, but it asks me to pay to play, pay to view, pay to unlock. It’s not for invest dozens of dollars, that I’ve installed that app. It’s for improving my concentration. If I can, I would give a 0. NOT RECOMMENDING..Version: 9.74.1

StupidityPlaying this game is not “brain training”. It will only train your brain to get better at playing this game. Same is true for solitaire, scrabble, crossword puzzles... or learning an instrument for that matter! When you do something often you get better at it. That’s all there is to it. This game is not making you smarter. Try learning a language or an instrument or taking up a new hobby. There is some actual science behind those things leading to cognitive improvements..Version: 9.35

Disappointed that the outcomes are modulatedThe underlying algorithms keep changing the outcomes based on your actions, without disclosure. That is disappointing and keeps you addicted to wanting to score better. So however well you perform you will get screwed at the highest levels, leaving you unfulfilled. Your actions will always leave you unsatisfied and wanting to try more. The magic of keeping one hooked. To this reviewer, modulating outcomes midway based on your actions is undesirable. Try out some of the games, let them run without inputs, and the scores are different every time, even though ones actions were a naught. Alternatively, take random fast actions, and you will score high. Knowingly playing hidden games with on my brain makes me squirm, unless I knowingly submit to it. My recommendation is a 60% value..Version: 9.84

Good, but too money-orientatedIt’s a good brain training app. There’s no denying that, but to be honest, that doesn’t really mean that much today. The App Store is littered with brain training apps, all of which contain similar games and offer a similar ‘premium’ version. I’m okay with that, after all, apps cost money to develop and maintain and the research involved in this certainly isn’t cheap. That said, an app that’s sole purpose is to develop the brain ought to include more than a few games and have at least some way of comparing scores to what other people have got AS STANDARD, not with a £45 per year price tag. If other companies can manage to survive with the same games on an app that is to a similar standard as this, but with more features available to free users, why can’t Luminosity do the same. It is clearly possible..Version: 9.24.3

This would be a five star review if...High IQ individual here. You don’t know me; so there’s really nothing in it for me to lie to you about it. Suffice to say: I have a health condition that involves attention from a neurologist and a neuropsychiatrist. I’ve taken actual iq tests (you can’t take them online, and no; the masses are not iq tested in their youth.) This game would’ve gotten five stars if its “rating” of you the user was more accurate...I live in an area of Texas that is saturated with morons...and the game rates me as below average for this region. Again...I have ZERO to gain from exercising bragging rights in this medium. The games are great, but don’t believe the ratings it assigns to you—the user—for a single solitary second; it seems fairly obvious that they keep you thinking that you’re a little dumber than you actually are so that you’ll treat the game as a must-have so as to keep your brain from withering down to the size of a cashew..Version: 9.77

MehAt the start I thought it was really good but after that you have to pay for everything. I’m now deleting it..Version: 9.47

Paid for premium, still no accessI just paid for a 1-year subscription but am still locked out of all the premium content. They obviously have a data synchronization problem between the Apple App Store and their subscription management system. They should really remove the app from the Apple Store until they get this fixed. Stealing customers money without providing them access to your app is a reputation risk. Based on other reviews it’s an issue you haven’t cared enough to fix for over 3 years. I’ve learned my lesson to always read the reviews first. Thought this was a reputable app, but I guess not… you need to make it easier for people to either get access to the subscription they’ve already paid for, or get a refund directly through you. Forget customer service, you have a whole end-to-end customer experience problem..Version: 9.88.1

Age Restriction ProblemHello, I think this app is an excellent use for brain training and to keep your mind “healthy”. Although, without as much negativity as possible, I think that many young people need to use this app to their outmost ability and can’t create an account due to the restriction of age. Yes, of course there should be an age limit, but in my individual opinion towards this app it should be at least allowing 12yr+ to use it! With all respects, this app really needs to get its priorities right or it won’t be doing very good in the popularity section, as well as people’s opinions towards it. Thank you very much, it would be great if you could fix that! Best regards - Leah..Version: 9.47

Child likeFelt like a toddler playing these. Very childlike graphics.Version: 9.88.1

Good but wayyyy over pricedI enjoyed this game until I hit the almost immediate pay wall. If the premium was cheaper or there were another way to unlock levels that would greatly improve this app.Version: 9.88.1

Too expensiveThe games are good but it’s very limited without premium. I would consider buying it if it was a one time purchase or a reasonable monthly amount like $5 but it’s almost $20 a month which is crazy.Version: 9.88.1

A lot of hypeI purchased this. And I had some fun with it, some of the games are more fun than others. I imagine it’s largely a matter of personal preference. Though I did find some of the games enjoyable and I think that it is nice that you have many to pick from - I really doubt you are going to see big change in your performance after a certain point. And so you can get the same benefits of play any game that will allow you some challenges and fun. I think the luminosity PR for bettering yourself is just that, marketing. So if you like any of the games and want to purchase to play go for it. But IMHO that is the extent of the value. Also I was a bit bugged at how easy the purchase was, but the links and info to update subscription are all dead or decoys. Meaning their is the extra step of going into the Apple App Store to make the changes. In my case canceling the auto renewal that the app defaults to..Version: 9.74.1
