✓ Com-lately ruined by broken update.Continually being given a zero score. Not placed on tables. Different languages coming up on tables. Bombs out on iPad when trying to sync progress from cloud after playing on Galaxy S23. Just how such a great game could be so completely broken by an update takes exceptional skill. ✓ A Wordament Facelift is Long OverdueHas the creative team that originally developed Wordament left Microsoft or moved on to other projects? Nothing has changed many years now. Zero aesthetic creativity or feature improvements. Every map is literally just going back to the beginning of the same map. Where’s the “Adventure“ in that?Eventually, even endless AI-generated word puzzles start to feel repetitive. Some new scenery would at least create a more interesting illusion of going somewhere. And how about adding an in-app dictionary and other features to enhance the game’s vocabulary building benefits? At the very least, please give us more variety by finally developing a Microsoft Ultimate Word Games app for iOS instead of leaving us stuck with the browser version. If the current “if it ain’t broke, don’t change it” attitude continues, I will probably end my subscription..Version: 4.2.1211
✓ Fun game, but...A fun game to kill time but playing multiplayer is frustrating when you see the top scores of a round and winners consistently have “found” over 120 words, which is impossible considering it’s 2 minute/120 second rounds. While it doesn’t really bother me, it does take away any drive to actually try since it’s all pretty much expected you’ll not win regardless of how good a round you have..Version: 3.7.3050
✓ The old version was betterIt seems like I used to score better in the previous version. There are a bunch of useless and distracting bells and whistles on this revision. I enjoyed seeing the country flags and the three letter country codes. I used to look up the codes to identify the countries and added some to my geo knowledge. Some of my frenemies seem to have disappeared ... maybe they preferred the previous version. Or maybe there is a way to get the “classic” version and I haven’t figured that out yet? Really, I don’t need endless levels of what is it? novice, apprentice, seasoned, advanced, what? I know I’m aiming for #1 and I hope to get there eventually, so please don’t waste my time giving me a bunch of useless tiers and cheering me on. ✓ Update sucksNow there are ads of course. The number of players was going down for a long time so an update was thought necessary. What were they thinking though? ✓ Long ads, weird wordsThis is basically a pretty fun word search puzzle, that gets progressively harder as you move through the steps. However, I have two big gripes: lately all the ads are 30 seconds long, much longer than I’m willing to sit through. And many of the “words” it expects you to find are so obscure that even with my graduate level vocabulary, I’ve never heard of them. So lately, after I find all the familiar words, I just resort to plugging in every combination that could conceivably be pronounced in English. If I feel like. it, I can look up the meaning, but they’re usually never a word I’d want to add to my vocabulary: the name of some obscure fish, or the archaic Scottish word for something. That makes it into a different kind of game, which I guess is OK too. I prefer the New York Times’ Spelling Bee, but you can’t binge-play that one!.Version: 4.2.1211

✓ I Love the Game, but...The game is great. If you like Boggle (which I’ve played since it came on the market in the late 70’s) you will love this. The only problem is that Microsoft doesn’t update the game and you’re playing the same games over and over. With the millions of combinations of letters, the game has so much potential. My guess is that’s why there are so few players (and when it was taken off Facebook the number of players went from thousands to 250 at most.). Very sad. A little more advertising would help too. I see the same players every day. Potential is there but this is obviously not a priority to Microsoft...lol!.Version: 3.7.3050
✓ Bug with last upgradeI play multiplayer every day, but after the last upgrade, where the icon changed to a red one, it now hangs every time the rotation accidentally changes on my iPad, and sometimes just when I move the iPad. So frustrating. The only way out of it is to reboot the iPad. Otherwise would have been 4 stars, due to little minor things like the sound often disappearing for a few games..Version: 4.2.1211
✓ An addictive game but ruined by excessive advertisingIt works well and is useful to practise foreign languages. However I have discovered that the French versions have all sorts of words and letter combinations which are not French. The description in the App Store only mentions English and I wonder if an error has been made in releasing a multi language version before it is ready. Any comment Microsoft? Despite the above this game is addictive and is satisfying to play but it has now been ruined by unacceptably frequent adverts. It really shouldn’t be necessary to interrupt the player after every couple of short games with a long advert. One of these is for a Mobilityware game. ✓ Good, what would make this great ..What's good - unique and addictive format, multiplayer w ability to match up against friends, simple but clever user experience. Been playing for over a year. Yet it can be rather frustrating after a bit.. Now what I really wish it had - the biggest thing missing is the ability to play non-timed version, maybe as an option, with ability to suspend and resume, or at least allow users to set different times instead of hard wiring to 2 minutes. Especially while learning the game. Second, the game does not know all words - make it simpler to nominate words that are missing from the dictionary. ✓ Love the gameI love to play the multiplayer game of Wordament. It keeps me on my toes with vocabulary words. The only thing is there seems to be a large amount of bots playing. Too many words possible for a human to type/think of in the amount time provided. It makes the competitive part of me hate the game. I, nor any real person can compete with a computer. I still play, but with disappointment. In addition, sometimes the themed games are lacking. For example, the other day the theme of the puzzle was “nose” but no credit was given for “nares.” Really? Just got done playing a game with the theme, “occupations” but the word “potter” gave no extra points. That being said, if you can ignore the “Leaderboard” in the game and just try to beat your own record it’s a fun game..Version: 3.7.3050

✓ What an awful idea.SkyPaws27 here. I am so freaking mad over this new update. This was the ONE game I played. First, you messed up the statistics and lost more than half your players due to removing the Facebook connection and only allowing Xbox accounts (you went from 1,000 players at a time to barely 300). At that point I had played thousands of games and was miffed I had to create a new account. But the game was the same, so I sucked it up and began anew. And then you go and do this. WHY. No one likes this update. Put down whatever you were smoking when you decided this was a good idea. Unless your goal was to kill the app - in that case, congrats! But alas, I’m sure you don’t care. ✓ Great...butAn updated review following another classic Microsoft “down date”. Love the game but since the last Microsoft “update” I now have to constantly interrupt games if I happen to move the iPad and the auto rotate function flips the screen. After that the screen on Wordament freezes and you have to completely restart it. And, no, I am not turning off and on auto rotate just for the sake of one game that has a major glitch. Since on the Wordament support page it is actually impossible to contact a anyone about this, I have to downgrade the rating. I dislike the repetitive ads that have crept in and no early exit from them as in most other games. I do like the harder levels interspersed with easier ones and that most puzzles can be solved with plain words and not exotic ones. ✓ Were you high?Who in the world thought that this new layout and game experience would be better than the old version? Because whoever it was, should be fired. I used to LOVE this game. My whole family did!! I even had friends that played and I loved having them as frenemies; it was fun seeing them randomly pop up at the end in leaderboard. It was so simple, clean, and just perfect. You got exactly what you came for. If not immediately then within the reasonable 120s(+/-?) countdown. You got to play. Nothing more nothing less. But now, every feature of this game that had made it beyond compare is now replaced with this poorly executed knock-off, void of any visual appeal, and if that wasn’t enough, don’t forget the hundred and one unnecessary gameplay add-ons that completely depreciate the value of the game. ✓ Was great now horrible do not getThe previous version of this from maybe a few weeks ago was phenomenal. simple interface clean fast and fun head to head multiplayer matchup with timed games. lightweight advertising at the bottom of the screen. fun and nice. the latest update has added the worst possible advertising - insultingly stupid unskippable videos of six to fifteen seconds each showing braindead click the matching color games that pop up randomly between games. the word games are still good but the advertisements in this case destroy the app. borderline unusable. I had given this five stars for simplicity and fun. downgraded to one on account of the incredibly intrusive ads. ✓ Good ideas in the latest update, but execution is lackingI like the new options for styles of game play in this latest update. However, the game is now a lot slower and a battery hog to boot. Playing fast for high word count is a lot harder due to lag, even when connected to wifi. The compliments it gives you when you do well (is there an actual name for those?) also interfere with speed because they obscure the board and also lag. The graphics and visual style may also contribute to the performance issues, since they are a lot more complex (unnecessarily so in my opinion) than previously. The game is also much less visually distinctive now, and its style blends in with every other game out there that I don’t play due to general spaminess and battery hog issues. My suggestions are to simplify the graphics, distill everything so it’s focused on game play rather than a debatably pretty package, and remove any other unnecessary “features” causing performance issues..Version: 3.0.11

I don’t begrudge someone for monetizing their development efforts through advertising. HOWEVER - When the developer of the app gives you a setting allowing you to disable sounds so you don’t bother others around you while playing, and yet they allow video ads to play that contain audio that doesn’t care about the app settings that have the sound disabled-it seems rather inconsiderate (and annoying), in addition to creating disruptive and embarrassing situations. ✓ Two problems foundI have neglected writing for a while now but they are beginning to annoy me. The program shuts down every once in a while. I don’t see any correlation between the stops. The program hangs up my iPad for a short time, 15 to 30 seconds then shuts down and I have to restart the program. If I am in a puzzle, the puzzle has to be restarted, nothing is saved. The other problem is when I am finally at the last gate, I cant open it. The access link is below the designated square. To get thru the gate, I switch to me iPhone. ✓ Really wish there was a little more to love about thisThis is a great version of the classic word find boggle-style puzzle game. But the reason I am writing this review is that nothing about this game is difficult at all! There are so many levels with absolutely no progression of difficulty, no different than gimmicks, heck even all the different "maps" you unlock look the same! There are no timers, no move limits (in the main game), and while this lends itself to being played for a few minutes here and there, it's just lacking interest. Even some 5x5 levels would be a nice change of pace. It looks and plays great! I wish Microsoft had more games in this Casual series. ✓ Getting used to the new versionI really liked to original version. It was clean and simple. And I loved seeing where the other players were from and their flags. Really miss that in the new version. Also been having problems playing on both my phone any my iPad. The app identifies that the data on my phone is different than my iPad when I say I was to use my iPad data it keeps saying it’s unable to sync my info. Frustrating! Also disappointed that the new version could not take my existing stats and assign my level. ✓ Where are the Developers?When I sign in I, as of a few weeks ago, my game appears to be frozen. The game simply won’t respond. I can only play as a guest now, which reverted me back to ‘novice’. I reached out to the game developer but heard nothing back. Also when you reach the top at the end of your challenge, the game boringly drops back to the bottom to begin again. Makes you feel like you’re starting over; definitely no cute or fancy graphics to make you feel a forward momentum, or graduation onto the next level. The developers never appear to improve the game. Finally, the counter doesn’t always add your points for discovered words. Lots of glitches! No new updates. Gets pretty boring after a point. ✓ New version is nigh unplayableApart from the 30s loading screens, you’re forced to play single play tutorials for a single player “adventure” no one asked for. When you finally find the multiplayer section, you’ll be presented with another loading screen and an unskippable 20s video ad When finally in the game proper you’ll notice there is horrible background music, extra crappy sound effects and jarring animations that didn’t used to exist but worst of all is just how laggy it all is - the original was designed to work on low performance windows phones, this new version is obviously only designed for those with the latest flagships. ✓ Strange objectives and brokenFirst off, the objectives are a bit unsatisfying. Instead of trying to find all the words, you are cut off after a certain score, and are trying to do things like find words using the corner letters or three letter or four letter words. The multi play is a bit more of the traditional play against the clock kind of thing, but the solo campaign seems weirdly casual in that there is no clock and you aren’t trying to find all the words and get cut off when you achieve the three objectives of each game. That would be ok, but when I got to the last puzzle of the first campaign “world” the game broke and I couldn’t play further. Even closing it and reopening it would just take me straight back to the same crash… no way to avoid it. So I had to uninstall it..Version: 4.2.1211
✓ Fun game and all, but…After the first few maps, the game becomes repetitious. Same stuff over and over and over, ad nauseum, to the point of being boring. Similar or same puzzle, different map. Ultimately, it seems there is minimal creativity. It’s almost “copy and paste.” Each map starts out easy and gets progressively more difficult, until I come to a gate. Go through the gate and puzzles are easy, becoming more difficult, until I come to a gate or complete the map. The pattern repeats endlessly. I’m currently in the middle of Map 39, so it’s not like I did just a few maps and wrote a review. I keep playing because, right now, I don’t have another word game. ✓ Ads not gone despite paymentI paid a fee of £9-99 to remove ads. Now they have all re-appeared after just a few days even though I have not updated the app or altered it in any way. When I click on link to remove a notification appears saying there is a problem and the App Store is not available even though if this really was the case I couldn’t be writing this review! It also seems that if I delete and reinstall I will lose all my progress and I am on World 7. I will be reporting this to apple and asking for a refund..Version: 4.0.11240

✓ Disappointing updateTo add new games to attract a different audience is understandable, but I cannot fathom out why the brilliant straightforward format, that set Wordament apart from other games, has been messed with. Please get rid of the ridiculous and annoying words,like 'nice', 'superb' etc., that crop up throughout the multiplayer game, to make it closer to the previous version. Also, please let's have the countries of participants back because it made it interesting. ✓ Love this GameLet me start by saying that this game is brilliant, and the daily challenges are challenging and fun. I'll now explane the two star rating. I play this game on my way to work, I go to work via underground witch has poor to none internet connection. Because this game has an obsession on syncing you progress every 2 seconds, it makes it impossible to play it because of the poor internet connection. It just keeps to trying to sync, and because of the poor internet connection, it just keeps trying to sync for ever. I have to switch data off to be able to play it..Version: 3.5.8020

✓ Nice game but a MAJOR, MAJOR FLAWI absolutely love this game. I quite enjoy the fact that there is nothing to buy or any money to spend. A lot of these games are hogs for money. Like I read in another review it’s a very simple game, I love it. However, I have a major flaw issue! Every time I get to the 80th game and it’s time to play that mass bonus it freezes up. At first I just had to uninstall it and then reinstall it. Now after every 80th game it freezes completely so I have to uninstall it and reinstall it three or four times. I switch from my iPad to my iPhone but now it doesn’t update. What I mean is I had a level of 200 grandmaster. When I went back to my iPhone from my iPad it was lowered at 197. It is no longer updating. Please fix this. I should not have to uninstall my game from my iPad or my iPhone. Why does it do this??? It doesn’t move to the spot where I can tap to proceed. ✓ Not greatI only downloaded as I enjoy the solitaire app from Microsoft. Wordament is not bad, but becomes very monotonous after a while. For the daily challenges, they are sometimes extremely hard to beat, and I’m not thick in fact I’m quite a decent scrabble player. Invariably you end up with 4 and 3 letter words. ✓ Redesign?I miss the old Wordament. The old wordament was a clean, visually pleasing, and fun game. It was easy to play with family and friends. The graphics were pleasing to the eye, and not distracting. It was just well designed, with the end user experience in mind. This new wordament is designed around capturing your time, and along the way, makes some serious sacrifices. The old game is buried in the app. The design hearkens back to the 90s. I loved the old game, and would hate to disappoint the developers - but I cant recommend this app anymore. ✓ Like the single play stuff but I want to cryLove the new different ways to play. This is a much needed update after years of the same ol’ same ol’ which in hindsight was amazing. I love Wordament - 16,000 games of love. The biggest issue I have is the overlay of “Nice!” or “Excellent!” in the middle of a tournament. Who’s completely lousy idea was that???? I can’t see the letters underneath - which means I can’t make words which means I can’t make as many words as I used to! This is a game of speed (duh!) so why would you do something that hinders and slows down a gamer? Why? Why? Why? Contrast on the tiles is much harder for me to see the letter especially when I am trying to go fast. Why would you maker it harder? Also - the update look is outdated. It looked more modern and cool before - now you have buttons with gradients, bevels and dropshadows? What? Why would you do that? This is one of my favorite games ever - and the new game plays are fantastic (if kinda look-wise derivative and uninspired) - but you messed with the part that was already perfect. ✓ 'Improved'?Total disaster. The new, improved version is unplayable on my iPads (2). It is unbelievably slow, taking two, three or even four goes to enter a five letter word completely, then having to wait while the letters change colour before entering another word. ✓ Disappointing updateFirstly, there is nothing wrong with change when it is done well, sadly this has not been the case for Wordament. The fluidity of the game play is completely gone. What we have now is a clunky, headache-inducing, slow, mess of a game. The colours and graphics are incredibly jarring and distract from the gaming experience. I managed two rounds before I had to stop because it was starting to make me feel dizzy. Some of the new aspects added (like the daily challenge), are really good ideas, but they have been so poorly executed. Everything is so slow! Pop ups and flashy graphics seem to have replaced functionality. I can only discern from the new update that the current developers neither play nor enjoy Wordament (in any version or form), because the fun and addictive elements of the original have been completely destroyed. I assume that they have been trying to engage a younger audience, but in doing so have completely disregarded the longtime players and current demographic that this game has attracted. ✓ Very nice but they have to improve a few thingsThe nice things: - You get extra points for 5+ letter words, themed words and digraphs - Wordament exists in many languages, even languages like Swedish, Norwegian and Arabic - Wordament knows what words are foreign (judo, pizzeria etc) - Kids can play it too The disadvantages: - Wordament does NOT have a dictionary - even when you press on a word - Wordament on the MSN site does not have Microsoft's writing font - Words people make in other languages are not foreign (not all) sometimes feel to the Microsoft system they obviously ARE foreign. - You cannot play Daily Challenges or Multiplayer without internet connection. - Multiplayer sometimes says you don't have internet, even if you do have. - Wordament in German and Portuguese have different rules and objectives - Wordament does not tell you how to pronounce a word in any kind of English. - Wordament's adventures do not have leaderboards - Wordament Solver sometimes tells words that you cannot make on Wordament. ✓ Fix it pleaseSince the compliance update the game wouldn’t work at all. I’ve since followed support and now it intermittently works. I suspect the update made a change to force watching ads, however it seems the loading of these is causing the issue so force closing and opening the app doesn’t help (as it really want to show you an ad). The app flips screens in between games instead of using popups so users lose visual anchors. Last, the numbers shown for level of play versus numbers shown on the path make no sense and appear unrelated - as in being rewarded by advancing to level 65 but returning to a circle on the map showing 43. Over time you learn quirks, like ‘Mises’ is a word (famous Austrian economist) but many common proper nouns are not. Playing on iPhone I find it personally irritating that you can’t turn off the HINT button, which I occasionally hit by accident. I haven’t played in a while and I just checked back to see that the whole entire layout has changed, and how many unnecessary features there are. The old sound effects were better, the old layout was better, and just how simple it used to be was so much better. ✓ Don’t play at nightIf you enjoy winding down at night by playing this sort of game, be warned that Wordament has random video ads that ignore your device settings for volume. I enjoy this sort of game, and I have my volume down, off, and my phone in Do Not Disturb mode, but this game plays random video ads (for gambling, no less) that still get around my settings. There’s nothing like having some EXTREMELY loud, garbage video ad blast me into wakefulness. Also, this game gets minimal developer attention, does not have night mode, and it ignores the color inversion options to always display intensely white play screens. ✓ Used to be descent... until the Ad AvalancheIt is disappointing that the MS team has decided to require you to watch an ad between EVERY puzzle. It used to only pop adds after a few puzzles. So irritating. Also, they way they allow you to jump into the middle of an ongoing live competitive match can really mess with your personal stats. Just because I got put into a match with only 10 seconds remaining should NOT be allowed to negatively affect my stats. Only games that a user joined at the BEGINNING of a 2 minute match should be allowed to impact their stats. Also, the live “players” who tend to win the multiplayer matches appear to be bots - that either MS tosses in as virtual players, or there is some kind of technical cheating going on (compare the scores and stats at the end of a multiplayer match and decide for yourself if it is *humanly* possible to get the winning scores shown). When I tried to sign up via my Facebook account, it took me 6 trues before I got to an actual Facebook sign in screen. Then when I signed in and accepted the terms via Facebook, your game told me that I lacked an internet connection. Funny - that’s the same screen I got the 6 previous times before you let me attempt my connection to Facebook. Being connected to the internet isn’t an issue but I suspect that your servers are having a challenge performing this task based upon the time of day/high traffic. Guess what though? ✓ Ruined by unnecessary updateThis was our favourite game, one of the few out there that lets you just play without pointless bells, whistles, adventures and distractions. Now the update has arrived, it is just like all the other junk with annoying sounds, intrusive pop-up comments (“nice”) that cover part of the board every time you get a better word and generic soullessness. I found the multiplayer option a bit like the old game but all my achievements have been wiped and it still suffers from the same distractions and annoyances. Very, very disappointed.
