AeroPress Timer for Negative User Reviews

Poor custom optionThere is no way to add a bloom stage for custom recipes. Many of the recipes pre-loaded have multiple pour stages for a bloom, but this is not possible to have for the custom recipes. You cannot add a second pour, stir, or steep stage into your recipe when a bloom would require this. Given with how many recipes have this as a basic feature, this oversight is a poor one. I would not purchase this app again..Version: 3.1

Great design but crashesChamp pack and roaster pack crashes ios 7.1.2 not sure about rest of versions.Version: 2.0.1

Somewhat helpfulThe app is designed nicely and is somewhat helpful, but there is at least one recipe that is incorrect. The "inverted" by Stumptown says to use 120 ml water for 17g coffee. This is incorrect. The water should be 220ml. I suggest this be fixed. I also suggest listing the water temperature each recipe should use since most are a little different..Version: 2.4

Can be confusing at timesSome of the recipes have a two step ‘pour’ ie step one is ‘pour 100g’, then step three might be ‘pour 120g’, it doesn’t clarify if step three is an additional 120g or to a total of 120g, also some recipes have a notes section before then the timer starts and doesn’t give you the information you need to follow the recipe.Version: 3.1

Great, but..I still haven’t gotten the chance to make my own recipe ‘cause the app keeps crashing whenever I reach the temperature portion. Hoping for a fix as I wanted to use this app for the AeroPress Competition in the Philippines that’s happening a week from now. Running on iPhone SE with the latest iOS..Version: 3.0

Recipes Are InaccurateThis app is a GREAT idea. The way it’s laid out is great. The functionality is great. There are three main problems. Firstly, I have discovered that MANY of the recipes are not recorded correctly. In clicking the links to the source for the recipe, the grams of coffee are often wrong, the grind size can be wrong, and other details as well. The recipe link is right in the app. These are easily verifiable mistakes. Secondly, it would be nice to have the option to edit existing recipes. Taking for granted that the recipes are correct, it would be nice to be able to make changes. Finally, it would be lovely to have a little more flexibility on the options you can include for making your own recipe. For instance, I have a recipe I like from the 2017 World AeroPress Competition winner, and she adds water to the coffee after it has been plunged and brewed. There’s no way for me to add that in the app. Maybe include a function where you can type in your own instruction instead of having to rely solely on the instruction items provided in the app. I want to love this app so badly. But inaccurate recipes? I actually can’t use this app now. I have to find the original recipes to get the correct data. Accurate, verified recipes, and a little more flexibility/customization would make this PERFECT..Version: 3.1

Crashes when creating a recipeThe tool as a recipe repository is good, however, the recipes are not updated, nor new recipes are being added. Furthermore, whenever I try to add a new recipe, the app crashes. As of now, the app is not recommended unless a new update would fix these issues..Version: 3.1

No longer updatedI just spent $5 for this app. I wish I had known two things: - it's been over a year since the last update - no measurement in grams, only "scoops" (turbine that came with the aeropress I can't imagine that any serious coffee app wouldn't use grams. But that could be forgiven if the app was still being updated. However, since no updates are coming, no fixes/improvements will be either. Save your money. Buy a different app..Version: 2.4

Missing features for such an expensive appFor an expensive app you’d think some pretty basic features would be included. Like how about the ability to edit a recipe? Or what about the ability to add water in multiple stages for a bloom? If I’m creating a recipe and want to add part of the water then stir then add the rest of the water I’m out of luck. What if I want to add something to the recipe other than coffee or water (like a specific amount of ice?) no luck there either..Version: 3.1

Great app!I love this! So innovative and takes a lot of guess work or anxiety out of the process. I have one suggestion. I want to import my recipes and ones I’ve found online to the app. There’s a feature for that, but it’s very rough and doesn’t give me the customization that the preset recipes have. For example, the “Blue Bottle” recipes says to “pour / 40g of water for ten seconds.” However when you customize your own recipe you’re not able to detail how much water to pour. This is a very odd thing to leave out? It nullifies the idea of importing my own recipes so I don’t have to remember them... because I still have to remember them. The app would immediately be 5 stars if I could use it to add my own recipes. For $4.99 it ought to allow me to do that..Version: 3.1

Should be so promisingCannot add own recipes. Keeps crashing after setting water temp. Restarted app and phone makes no difference. Shame really. £5 wasted! Will have to use Notes app (which is free) instead..Version: 3.1

CrashingTry making a recipe 5 times and you’ll notice it will crash. Also adding notes sometime does this. The developer needs to update it to fix the bugs..Version: 3.1

Great app, needs recipe updatesApp is must have with an Aeropress, but the cobwebs are starting to show. Hasn’t been updated in over a year. New recipes badly missed with what is otherwise a must own app. Updates please!.Version: 2.4

Great concept, still needs workI love the idea of this app, and I'm hopeful that the number of recipes expands with future updates. However the timer isn't working right on my iPhone 5, sometimes going way faster than it should. This is a critical function in the app. Pleeeeease fix it, as I really want to right a better review in the near future!.Version: 1.0

Really?That's it? That's all the app does??.Version: 2.0.3

Create your own recipe lacking simple detailsI love the timer and how it easily breaks down the step. I bought this app because it allowed you to create your own recipe. The recipe creation definitely needs some work. It does not let me specify how many grams of water to pour. Also, if I enter something incorrectly, there is no way of going back to edit. You just have to start over. I hope future updates fix this issues. Right now, it’s not worth $5..Version: 3.1

Urgently needs an edit functionThe app works well for simple recipes but a glaring omission is not being able to edit previously created recipes. The whole point of the Aeropress is to tinker and experiment. It is very annoying to have to start a new recipe from scratch versus just tweaking an existing one. For $5 I would expect such a basic feature as being able to edit an existing recipe.Version: 3.1

HelplessI don’t see any benefits paying for this. there is no recipes, just few methods. You can find more datas and all champs AeroPress recipes online for free. and nothing is best than a chronometer to brew coffee (not a minuter with messed up steps between pours) I only see an accumulation of bad design decisions that will for sure disappoint users..Version: 3.1

Useful but incompleteAs a newcomer to using the AeroPress I was looking for an app that could help me look for recipes and give me a chance to enter in my own. The interface of using one of the pre-load recipes is very well designed and works quite well, taking you step by step through the brewing process. The one thing that is frustrating me is that when I try to enter in my own recipe or one that I have found, the app crashes and force closes. This is MAJOR drawback to the app, especially given that I paid for it. Along those lines, here are a few things I would like to see added to the app. More in depth instructions for harder recipes, backgrounds on the brewing method/who made them, and videos to show how each recipe is done for reference. Overall 6/10 Needs improvement but not the worst thing out there.Version: 3.1

Bait and switchThe app while good, took away key features that existed prior to the update and did not disclose this loss of features in the update notes.Version: 2.1

Not Worth the MoneyWINS: •Concept is great -gives you the recipe and instructions: grind setting (shows pic of ideal size of grounds), when to pour the water and HOW much water to pour at that given step in the recipe, etc. OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT: •Creating Recipes: BUGGY -won’t allow you to specify how much water to pour at specific moment/step in the recipe i.e. doesn’t allow for a bloom stage (even if it did you wouldn’t be able to note how much water for said bloom) •Writing Notes: BUGGY -You can write as much as you want in your notes but once you finish you cannot access that note again AND you will only ever be able to read the first line.. nothing more. •Not Many Recipes -You are better off surfing the web or YouTube for good AeroPress recipes tbh.Version: 3.1

Terrible app, what a waste of moneyPointless app. No videos, photos or detailed explanations. Don't waste your money, or your time..Version: 2.0.3

Still crashes!!!There’s a review stating that this app crashes when setting the water temperature for your own recipe. A year on from that review it still crashes. I have therefore requested a refund..Version: 3.1

Great companion to the AeropressLove the app, but 3 suggestions. Please allow me to filter by type of grind as well as by my own ratings. Also let me turn off the sounds..Version: 2.4

AeroPress TimerWeak.Version: 1.0

Latest update changed certain recipesRecipies such as the inverted were changed in the latest update. No mention in release notes. Looks like errors in migration to the new app..Version: 3.0.1

No more than a timer, for £5???Not much more to say, other than what a waste of money..Version: 2.4

ABANDONED APP. Do NOT buyThe developer has not updated in over a year. Normally this wouldn’t be an issue for an app as simple as this. But it’s slow to start, crashes, and worst of all used 15% of battery (iPhone 11, latest update) in just 5 minutes... for a coffee timer. Save your $5 and look elsewhere. This app is abandoned..Version: 3.1

Needs an UpdateHas some good recipes but is outdated. Needs an update of the most recent Aeropress championship recipes. Not worth $5, better off using recipes found online..Version: 2.4

Good conceptInterface is attractive with the exception of the dark blue on black text and a little confusing at first navigating backwards. Would be nice to have recommendations on bean type for each recipe..Version: 2.4

Needs updatesI love and have used this app for along time. It works well, and for those starting out with an Aeropress, you can't beat it. However, I paid for the additional recipes (roaster and championship pack) quite some time ago, and nothing else has been added. I've found other resources online that are much more comprehensive, including better grind size detail, water temperature, more details (such as dealing the plunger after finishing the pour for certain standard method recipes), and more recipes. These would all be welcome updates to this app, as people keep coming up with new ways to use the brewer. Right now, for something that I've paid for, it seems like we're being neglected..Version: 2.4

Great starting out but lacking when adding recipesI really love this app when starting out using the AeroPress. The built in recipes are really easy to follow. And it makes it really easy to get a great quality cup even as a beginner. Much easier than doing a pour over. There is one thing I would like fixed, and that is I would like to have the create or add a recipe with as much detail as the built in recipes do. For example most built-in recipes will tell you how much water to add during a pour step, but when you are adding in a recipe you can only put in the amount of time in a pour step not the amount of time and amount of water being poured. This is bad if there maybe more than one pour step in a recipe and with each step there are differing amounts. Also the conversions don’t quite work well. And lastly editing a added recipe is not available. If you are putting in a new recipe you can go back in some parts during the add in process and edit but if you make a mistake in the steps section you cannot fix it, and have to start from the beginning. And if you want to edit your recipe later after creating it, you would have to either trash the old one and create a whole new recipe or keep the old one and create an entire new one with a new name. So for $5 the app provides you with access to some great recipes, however the customization portion of the app is quite lacking for $5..Version: 3.1

Mixed feelings about new interfaceHad previously rated this 4 stars as it was clean and simple interface. Not so sure now. I like the new design but the colours are not sharp on the screen and makes following the instructions a bit blurry against the dark grey background. Please use contrasting colours or just white. Also a great addition of the graphic showing the summary steps in the recipe is hidden and you have to pull down to see it. Why not just have it visible at the top of each recipe? Can still be improved..Version: 2.0.1

Force ClosesThe app is useful for the recipes already listed within. But, the app shuts off everytime I try to create my own. It specifically shuts off after I enter the degree (in Celcius). I wish I was able to enter the temperature in Celcius instead of Farenheit for it to work..Version: 3.1

Good design, missing basic featuresThe recipes are a good collection, although some are inaccurate (Tim Wendelboe’s, for example). Design is well thought out, too. Missing basic features, such as the ability to edit a recipe, even a recipe you yourself have created. Also, even though both volume measurements support a simple/weight setting, there is no such setting for grind. It would nice to be able to, for example, for simple say “Fine” but for the specific setting say “20” for the exact grind size on your grinder. At this point, it’s not a $5 app. But I would have been happy with a $1-2 price..Version: 3.1

It is a total rip offI am shocked. For the price I was expecting the recipes to have at least the temperature... come on guys, this is essential! Then the second problem is that I cannot input my own recipes. Already the recipes are useless if I do not know the temperature. Plus think about how generic the recipes suddenly become. It is just a timer. But 20 seconds stirring? How many times to stir and when, it is super important. Ok then, i could use the timer ignoring the recipes.. but this s not possible? What the use of it? How fine coffee is ground differs depending of the coffee grinder. Just medium? As a comparison, this is how a recipe for aeropress should look like ( and this is already quite open to lots of variable, type of coffee, roast, grinder used etc, but at least is a beginning, read it and compare with app..): Winner: 2014 World AeroPress Championship Coffee: 16.5g Water: 250g soft mineral water @ 78°C Brewer: Upright Filter: Paper Grind coffee at "9.5" on a Malkoenig EK43 Rinse paper filer with warm water Heat water to 78°C Add 40g of water Allow 25 seconds of bloom Stir five times Add 210g of water and stir once Press down very slowly for 75 seconds Leave 45g of slurry in the AeroPress Total brew time - 1:40.Version: 2.4

Some enhancements would be appreciatedPlease let us edit recipes we already created. Also let us edit the step names. I have 2 pour steps in my recipe and I want to specify the amount of water for each one..Version: 3.1

DisappointingSurprised that none of the measurements are by weight. Not worth the money when all of these instructions are on different cafes/roaster's websites..Version: 1.0.1

UselessAlmost useless as no information about water temperature and selection of beans..Version: 2.4

Aero press timerThis is not a well thought out app there is no way to modify a custom recipe, to make a single change you have to create a complete new recipe, which is a huge waste of time It also does not give you total brew times either in the pre-made recipes or custom ones as it only counts fill and steep times, not press or stir or flip times in the total needs some major updates.Version: 3.1

BuggyThere’s no ability to edit recipes. The selectors for number of scoops are wonky (in order to get fractional scoops you have to switch back and forth between grams and scoops.) And the first recipe I saved somehow ended up with 0 scoops and 0 seconds..Version: 3.0

Really needs an updateSummary if you want a quick yay/nay: Pass on buying this. It's fun and welcomes creativity, but is super limited for a $5 purchase (when you can easily find more detailed brewing descriptions online for FREE)... This app is fun and pleasing to look at with some great recipes. It functions great. But it needs an update bad... The only provided championship recipes are way back from 2014. Details are pretty limited on how to do the brews just right. Some of them or so vague that you could very easily do them wrong. (Sasaki's #1 recipe for example). There's the ability to create and save your own recipes which is awesome, but not worth $5. Just get a sketch pad or use your notes app..Version: 3.0.1

Not badYou should add a short video for each of the methods. Otherwise quite good..Version: 1.1.1

?Crashes after adding the temperature setting when adding a recipe so hasn’t been that useful for me..Version: 3.0

Good but too basicI like this app & really love my AeroPress. I think we're a few steps away from a truly great app thought. The one big variable that seems to get no mention is temperature. Do these recipes work better or worse with a preheated AreoPress? What is the targeted water temp? The info that is there is good, it's just light on info. Perhaps this app could contain links to other sources of info on recipes and tips for using the machine etc....Version: 1.0

A good startI like the idea, a very useful way of keeping track of timings. But, I'd love to be able to enter which coffees I use for which recipes as some would undoubtedly suit one method more than another. Also, aeropress, as any other kind of coffee making, is all about experimenting - it would be perfect for me if I could enter my very own recipes when I stumbled on a good method. Then, it would be a very useful app indeed..Version: 1.1.1

Add cappuccino, latte, macchiato recipesPlease add a basic “espresso shot” equivalent that can be used to make coffee drinks. I admit that AeroPress is NOT an espresso system and will NEVER produce an espresso shot. However, if one wants to make latte etc, using the current brews in the app, then some guidance will be a great addition to the app..Version: 3.0.1
