Memrise Easy Language Learning for Positive User Reviews

Great Platform. Needs vocabulary improvement.I’ve been using this app for the past 2-3 months consistently. I’m nearly done with Russian 1. Overall, it’s great software, intuitive, and it makes memorization seem easy. My biggest criticism is the vocabulary. In the Russian 1 course, we learn about 400 words. However, these words are not the most common words that new Russian speakers would be using. For example, we learn the word for caviar long before we have learned the word for bread. What word do you think is more commonly used? I know caviar is popular is Russia, but personally, I think the latter. I wish a little more thought was put in to the curriculum, so students would be learning more applicable vocabulary. I find that in a lot of my Russian conversations, I am lacking knowledge of some basic words, while I know words that are a less commonly used. I would still recommend this app. For $40, you get your money’s worth it terms of the quality and utility of this program. I just wish they put a little more thought into the Russian curriculum. Hopefully they will improve the vocabulary selection in the future to help out new Russian speakers..Version: 3.2.3

Absolutely love this app but what’s with the update?I have been using Memrise for a couple years now and fell in love with it immediately. I had been studying Nihongo (Japanese) since I was young but never got to finish learning so this was an awesome way to refresh my memory and teach myself again. Anyways, it’s been awhile since I’ve been able to sit down and study with the app and I just picked it up again tonight but am sort of uncomfortable with the ad pop ups, not for any other reason than just not wanting to click either option. I love that you guys promote another version of your app that you have to pay for, but putting a rude or “sassy” option to close the ad is honestly annoying. I had a lot of respect for this app, still sorta do, but I feel like it’s now lost a bit of its approachable class for all ages and kinds of people. Why not leave the option “No, Thanks. Maybe Later” cause not everyone has that much money to spare and having to choose “No, I don’t like people” or “Nah, I like to stay in my own little bubble 😒” is sort of condescending and juvenile. Other than that, the app is good, but now I feel like it’s directed towards younger millennials and not the masses. It’s not that big of a deal, just annoying..Version: 2.3.50

The most fun of all the language learning appsAnd for me making it fun and keeping me interested is at least half the battle when it comes to learning languages (my school experience of language learning was that it was like some exquisite torture). So far after a good amount of time spent I am definitely improving, think the sequencing of material is broadly appropriate for day to day use and is “natural” as opposed to being academic, I like the various different ways the software teases me into trying to beat myself and win little awards (I learn best with lots of encouragement and less time spent feeling a failure) and the other elements of “gamification”. I think the inclusion of a camera based real time “what is the word for this thing” tool is cool and though I haven’t used it in earnest it’s enough for me to feel proud of the app. And whoever thought to include the phrase “you are a genius” was a real genius. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud and beam when it taught me that - caught me completely off guard and I felt like I had a new friend helping me learn..Version: 2022.10.3

Amazing app!Amazing app, unlike other apps it tells you the meaning behind each word *cough cough duolingo caugh* and is super easy to get the hang of! Really like the integration of locals (short clips an tips while learning) aa it really helps you get used to pronunciation a lot faster. Only reason it’s four stars is that you have to pay for some features but I really recommend this over other apps as the ads are few and far in between and the subscription is worth it though not mandatory to enjoy the app. Great app that doesn’t need changes..Version: 3.2.7

Learning Te Reo MaoriGreat app. Had a couple of issues with setting up which was frustrating - but once that was sorted I’m loving it!!.Version: 2.3.54

Clever learning techniqueThe memorisation style of learning is one that I enjoy very much and I am making great progress already with my language learning..Version: 3.2.3

My absolute favourite language appThis app is fun and very interactive. I love how it feels like a game! Very well designed. I practice French everyday for just 10 minutes and it’s extremely helpful in building a foundation for when I travel to France next year. Just 10-15 minutes every single day and you’ll be learning a new language in no time! Highly recommend..Version: 2.3.48

Addictive & InformativeI've only been using this app for a few hours. I am mostly self-taught and I think this app is good for those who are just starting out or are a bit familiar with the language. It seems to be a good tool to reinforce independent study. One thing I would suggest is that for languages with a different writing system, it's better not to rely on romanized spelling of the sounds. In my experience, it's much easier to train your ear to the sounds of each character if you aren't using the English characters as a crutch, since in a lot of cases, the sounds have no absolute English equivalent. I haven't gotten very far into the levels, so I don't know if this changes along the way, but that is the only negative I have found so far. I'm really enjoying this app!! *update* After initial introduction to the writing system/alphabet, the romanization is abandoned, which is great for general memorization of the characters and training your ear to the sounds. I also think picture visuals would be helpful in remembering verbs and vocabulary..Version: 2.3.7

Mostly great with some amusing flawsI’m using this app to learn Polish mainly, and a bit of Icelandic for a holiday I’m planning. Learning the languages is very good. I’ve just signed up for a month to see if I want to pay out for a yearly or lifetime membership and the extra features are very good. Difficult word review shows you the spelling of difficult words automatically, but I think having a toggle option would be better as the main learning section has already shown me my spelling mistake. The pronunciation section seems to work fine but I’m practising with a Polish friend so I’ve not come across a word I struggle to say yet, and that will be the test there. The Explore function is the amusing flaws I mentioned. My mobile phone is supposedly a surfboard. My computer mouse is a helmet. My foot is a Christmas stocking. With a bit of work here, this could be helpful, but not much use as it stands right now, even if it has taught me a couple new words. Overall, I highly recommend this app. Easy to use, though some of the features that I thought would be standard as learning a language tends to involve speaking such as pronunciation are hidden behind a pay wall, hence the loss of one star. If you’re serious about the language you want to learn, I don’t think the price is that expensive, and there are alway offers on so keep an eye peeled for them (present icon in top right corner). Powodzenie! or Good luck! with your new language..Version: 3.1.35

Fun and easy to learnI’ve been using Memrise for a little while now and signed up for the subscription and really enjoy it. It’s great being able to hear native speakers and how things would be naturally said, instead of textbook conversation. They also give short videos that are scenarios of when the words would be used that are super helpful..Version: 2022.2.14

Annoyingly EffectiveThis is coming from someone who has studied Japanese in college. I decided to use this to review and hopefully learn some new things. If you already know a good amount of Japanese already just skip to Japanese 2. The Japanese at this level is still fairly basic but it provides a lot of Kanji to learn and vocabulary as well. I think the key part of this app that may benefit a lot of people is its heavy use of vocals, which includes *some* examples from native speakers as well. Most of the vocal examples are slow and chopped up which would help break things down for new learners, but your key examples of how you should speak come from the short clips of actual Japanese people. The greatest (and yet annoying) part of this app is just how much you review material. Every time you have a lesson where you learn something new, you will have like 2 lessons of review before you learn something else. I say it’s annoying because I already know a lot so I don’t feel like I need to review things a million times, but in all honesty this method drills the knowledge into your brain effectively. If you want to get the most out of this make sure you repeat back everything you hear so you can learn it faster and retain it. Solid app so far..Version: 2.3.11

Best language learning appThe included sets by Memrise are great, I’ve used Portuguese (Eu) Spanish (Eu) French, and some Māori decks. Had a try making my own and recording my own voice, a very good app..Version: 2.3.31

For those serious about learning...I’m already fluent in Spanish, speak both Castilian Spanish (Spain) and Mexican Spanish. However, since my husband is Mexican and we are raising our children speaking Spanish I wanted an app that helped me keep up with my Mexican Spanish since Castilian is often the first thing my brain jumps to when I’m speaking in Spanish. My first language is English and I’m constantly improving my Spanish language skills. I found this app to be a good way to constantly perfect my language skills. I also have some knowledge in German and a little in Russian and would like to take a look at those languages as well though Spanish is my main focus. I really love the app’s features though it’s a little pricey and I find the format a little confusing. I’m stuck doing level 1 words when I am way beyond that level of speaking, reading, and writing but maybe I’ll figure it out soon and by pass all of that. Either way I think no matter what level you are at in your language skills this app will help you perfect and reach your language goals..Version: 2.3.27

Worth to pay forBeing able to read and understand other language rather than 2 was my long wishes and this app assist me in learning Korean by the basic word , i can easily understand most of its character now which will take quite time to learn outside. The price 160$ for forever is reasonable for an education app, it is even more cheaper than a calculator in high school which around $200 instead you have a range of language to choose , easy to access and learn then yeh why no XD.Version: 2.3.20

.......THIS APP IS AMAZING! all i needed to do was log in with my google account and guess what! YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY well for somethings you do but its your choice! I didnt pay but its only been 20 minutes and ive already learned over 10 words! This is the best app ever! Im only 10 but i know almost all the basics! This app is so simple and easy you can set a reminder for the time you want to get a notification that its time to do your little lesson! Im so happy i got this app make sure to download and if you dont want to pay dont. Because even without paying this is the best app I have ever had and i love it! Thank you for the people who made this app as you are helping me learn a new language! Thank you thank you! From Sam :).Version: 3.2.33

Memrise ReviewMemrise is an amazing app that can make you learn languages amazingly. I am deeply relying on this app as my friend who is Russian thinks that I won't be able to learn Russian but I said give me two years and I will probably be fluent by then. I only decided to agree on the bet that was a slap bet (which is when you bet on something and if one person gets it right then the person who got it right gets to slap the other person as hard as they can once) because I knew that I could rely on the amazing app. That's why I would rate it 5 stars. The last brilliant thing about this app is that is if free! I would highly recommend this app!.Version: 2.3.7

Pretty good but not flexible enoughLet me start out by saying I liked this app enough pay the subscription. It's a nice friendly app, and they have a lot of good content. That being said, I find it a pretty significant drawback that you have no control over how much repetition you get other than the "difficult words" – which more often than not represent times I was tired and misclicked. This feature would be a lot more useful if you could manually adjust the difficult words on the phone app as you can on the website, but feature parity is lacking here. Better, though, would be the ability to tell the app how much repetition you need both per data set and per word. For instance, for the Spanish vocab set I need far fewer repetitions in the app wants to give me, and for the Chinese set, I want way more. Even with in each language, there is variation by word – some Spanish words just don't click, and some Chinese words I've heard before or just seem natural. The lack of the sort of adaptability makes me not want to use the app for very long in a single session, or on consecutive days, because the practice feels extremely repetitive and not a good use of my time, even if I do nothing but "learn new words"..Version: 2.3.11

Ten times better than DuolingoFor all those out there searching for a language app, Memrise is the one. Unlike its popular counterpart Duolingo, the words stick in your head. And they’re actually useful, not the rubbish “basics” Duolingo teaches you such as “newspaper” and “radio”. I mean, I’d rather learn the verb “to be” than “I like radios”. What’s even better is that it’s add-less and free, again unlike Duolingo, which used to be, but now robs its users through in-app purchases. The highlight is the points system, which gets you competing against your followers. Duolingo tries to rob people into learning a language, Memrise uses a points system to make you compete through your own will. There’s only one improvement: could you add Danish, please, so that I could dump Duolingo once and for all? Thank you, Memrise, for showing me that language apps haven’t completely gone down the drain..Version: 2.3.9

Good learning!Easy n quick.Version: 2.3.11

Structured to help you memorizeI like that the app follows a technique so that you’re always learning new words while helping you to retain stuff you learned previously. If you take a break for too long then you have to review more which makes sense since you tend to forget things after long periods of not practicing. You can also omit words from the review that you’re 100% confident about so you can focus more on new content. It’s fun and easy because the app keeps track of the things you struggle to memorize and stresses more on it so you get it down quicker. You don’t have to turn back pages or highlight anything or remember where you left off. What’s also great about it, is you can choose which subjects to focus on to cater to your lifestyle or interests. I gave it four stars because I wish it had picture or situational references since I’m more of a visual learner and also since that’s how we all learned our very first language before we all knew how to read…for example, a picture of someone waving and saying 안녕하세요 would help me to recognize when I would say this and burn a picture in my mind to a word rather than having to memorize two different words that mean the same thing. In that case, we learn to “think” in the foreign language instead of our own…if that makes any sense..Version: 2022.4.13

Pros and consI really love using this app especially if your using something like Duolingo as well because leaning two different ways it better than one tho I do find that i get lost in The menus sometimes i also don’t like the fact that you can’t retake pictures in explore mode so if you took a blurry shot because you didn’t stay steady you can’t retake it I also don’t like that you have to pay for almost all the lessons but you do have to make money somehow I guess I think I would recommend this.Version: 2.3.61

Only 1 flaw!I really enjoyed this app. It really takes it's time to make sure you thoroughly understand each letter/character in the alphabet of whatever language you're learning. Unlike Duolingo, though it that app is helpful in other ways, I feel like Memrise does a better job of educating you and making sure you understand even if it is not in physical form and not assisting you directly. The only flaw I find about this app is that so many useful modes are locked away for only members. This is understandable however, how else are you supposed to gain money? Though I find that if some of these modes were to be unlocked for all to use, I would definitely rate this app 5-stars. Thank you for reading! I hope this helps.Version: 2.3.11

Bug?I’m learning Russian and every single time they give you a letter sound and you have to pick the letter eg, п л в ц ж it is always the top left letter. So there’s no challenge and it doesn’t help you learn. It could be random and would make you remember it better. Otherwise super fun and handy app..Version: 3.0.11

Engaging and fun!Very agreeable and satisfying.Version: 3.0.7

Awesome Language Learning App!I’ve been learning Spanish in school and fluent in Punjabi and thought that the idea of learning a new language was so cool! Being able to speak in a language not everyone knows seems so amazing and this app is so much fun! I’ve tried apps like duo lingo and it does have the same goal and format but Memrise is truly the best fitting language app for me! You can see actual people from all over speaking the language you want to learn (I’m currently learning french!) I haven’t even gotten far enough in the app to say “this is amazing” in French but it’s absolutely awesome, it’s not constantly bugging you to download their premium version which basically upgrades to features like seeing real life lessons from people speaking the language you’re learning! Not only does it help you to speak the language but it also helps to write and memorize in the language your learning which is something I don’t see very much in other apps, I’d definitely download this app if you’re someone who wants in depth lessons on learning your preferred languages! 10/10! Au Revoir :).Version: 2.3.58

Great appMemrise is a great app to learn languages on, great platform, although there's inapp purchases. I don't buy anything on apps normally so this will see how far I can get in the app w/o purchasing anything..Version: 2.2.35

Great but glitches when you have more than a few coursesI use this app every day and it is usually great. I’ve been running a 165 day streak on a French course with 2000 words. It had all worked smoothly until I added another course, this time German with 1600. I’ve only got a 4 day streak on the German course. The transition between the two courses isn’t very smooth. I’ll switch to the German course, say, and it’ll display the rocket sign with ‘165 days’ - when it is a whole new course. I’m sure that this is something that can be worked on. Also, today I’ve noticed that when I finish a level, the weekly view of my streak isn’t there anymore. I just see a series of grey dots, even though I have been doing my courses consistently and haven’t missed a day. I have to tap on the level before it will come up that I have successfully learnt my five daily words. This is frustrating as it has almost forgotten which day of the week it is... why?? Please Memrise, sort out the above. **EDIT - just to be clear, my courses have been made by others and they are not the generic ones that come with the app (I access them online first) **.Version: 3.1.43

Absolutely Worth It!!I downloaded the app to give learning French another another shot after different apps weren’t working for me (stupid owl). I’ve only just finished the first level of French, and one week of this app, has helped me more than months of others. I’ve also been able to learn much faster because of the techniques that memrise uses!! Anyway! I just had a an honest to god conversation in French with a friend in Quebec! I stumbled a bit, but we only used a translator very rarely, and it’s because of Memrise!.Version: 2022.11.22

I loved this app but the refresh is even better!I have had this app for four years to improve my French. I pay for the full version and it’s really worth it. I have tried lots of language apps and this is probably the best one I have ever used. It was good before with lots of different ways of reinforcing your learning with writing, listening and little video clips. Now with the introduction of dynamic grammar learning, conversations that you participate in and the whizz quizzes where you listen to a conversation and have to get the gist of it rather than clearly understanding everything ( like real conversations! ) and the change to the lesson plans to more informal conversation is just brilliant. I cannot recommend this app enough..Version: 2022.7.25

Excellent teaching style! It’s teaching style is so much better than other leading language teaching apps... in my humblest of opinions (I’m learning Dutch.) It’s very cutesy in it’s style which might put some people off but where it counts it works well. I actually enjoy the fun feeling the app has more so. I’m quickly remembering the words it teaches more so than the phrases that Babbel threw at me early on. I think it’s the way they’ve blended the audio with the words on screen across either the language being learned or the English translation, then the screens where they give you the foreign word and you pick the English translation from a small set of choices, or vice verse. There’s audio bits where you listen to three things spoken, one of which matches the word it says at the top. All I can say is it’s absolutely worth a free download, I wouldn’t be surprised if you took up the offer that’s on right now as it pops up..Version: 2.3.11

Memrise reviewI love the tutoring app Memrise! I really needed a video-social example of assisting me to learning the Korean language! I’ve sprawled for reading apps and single worded quizzes but including all that, I needed to learn to speak and understand full phrase sentences. Memrise is the absolute perfect app!.Version: 2022.7.19

Great potential, needs some workLet me start off by saying this app has some amazing and groundbreaking features that you would have a difficult time finding on other apps or material. I have had the full, paid version of this app for around one and a half years. I was already fluent in English and Spanish so I decided to take a change with this app to learn a language that was not a Romance language. I took the course for Russian and later Arabic. What I learned from taking these two somewhat impractical and difficult languages was that the app is stylized in a very “Romance language” way of learning. They teach in more of the style of “here is a phrase, now memorize it” (hence the app’s name) it is not often that it gets explained why I’m conjugating certain words or including/leaving out other certain words or phrases. It is a very good app for learning basics of a language but it lacks the context that learning a language in person creates. All in all it is a great app and I would recommend getting the full edition especially if you are interested in learning multiple languages..Version: 3.0.6

Good for Learning basics!!Learning the numbers, simple phrases and real life scenarios is easy on memrise!! However you don't learn how words are used and where they are used, word structure or grammar, which is very important when learning a language <3 I recommend using another app while using this one, like duolingo for example. It is good to refresh your memory, but it isn’t going to teach you a whole language because it has a few potholes. Memrise is a nice app, that I use almost daily, I would recommend it but it can’t teach you everything lol - yours sincerely , lacy.Version: 2023.10.20

Best app for language learningI love languages and in my opinion this is the best app there is for learning vocabulary - and let’s face it, learning vocabulary is the most important part of language learning but the most tedious. Not anymore with this app!! It feels like playing a game, but a game you will not feel guilty about playing :) I’ve used it so far for German, some Mandarin Chinese and some Italian and can only recommend it. The videos they’ve added with locals speaking the phrases are amazing. Of course I don’t recommend this as your ONLY source of language learning if you want to learn a language fast - that requires a combination of speaking face to face with someone, reading/translating longer texts, and maybe listening to a podcast / songs and watching some movies / videos in the language, but for the “annoying part” aka vocabulary learning and memorization, throw away your flash cards and vocabulary lists and just get this app :) I promise you it’s waaay more fun. Also, if you’ve got only 5-20min a day to learn a language I think this is the most effective way to use those minutes because it makes sure that what you DO learn in that short time actually sticks to your memory..Version: 2.3.61

Revised Japanese is excellent!I started using the Japanese module last year to supplement self-study, and it was frustrating. You only got hiragana, so words that are normally written in katakana looked wrong and were hard to read. Some kanji were introduced, but they weren’t really useful (e.g., tree, but no sentences using it). It’s almost always rude to address someone as “you,” but the module was full of sentences like “You look tired.” This has all been fixed, and I’m getting a lot out of it. They start with hiragana, and once you get the hang of that, they start throwing kanji at you for new vocabulary that’s normally written in kanji. It’s hard, but it’s a lot better than learning the words in hiragana and then having to relearn them in kanji. At level 16, you start learning katakana. They’ve also introduced names to use in place of “you” (e.g., “Ms. Riho looks tired”), which is the polite way to address people. The Japanese module is probably best for supplementing more-conventional study, and it will be perfect for someone who knows a little Japanese and wants to refresh or relearn it, such as someone who had a semester of Japanese in college years ago..Version: 2.3.21

Syncing doesn’t existLove using Memrise but it’s seriously annoying that the streaks don’t sync up on the online version and iOS app. Also, if you log out and then log back into the app, the stats for the day reset as well and it shows that I’ve learnt and reviewed nothing that day despite just doing hundreds of reviews before I logged out..Version: 3.2.24

Pretty greatI'd appreciate more options for learning items, as well as the option of viewing multimedia lessons. A complaint, when typing answers, the lowercase 'l' and the uppercase 'I' look exactly the same, as they do here. This is very annoying when the word is (apparently) spelled correct, as you cannot see the error. Also, when I am viewing the leaderboard, sometimes when I switch away from the 'week' leaderboard the app suddenly crashes. Otherwise, I love this app..Version: 2.3.0

Awesome appGreat app. I’ve always put off learning languages because I’m good at reading but certain stuff words I read I won’t know how the correct pronunciation. With this app not only does it teach you the spelling of what you learn it shows you correct pronunciation with native speakers so you can get the subtle parts right and even reviews your pronunciation for you. So rather then just learning words hoping for the best you learn to spell, pronounce and read sentences and it’s so simple and if it doesn’t sink in the first time you can review anytime. It also stores phrases and words you have difficulty with so you can go back to them.Version: 3.1.14

ImpressedI’m extremely impressed with the quality of this app. It’s free which is the biggest positive. This app provides you with daily words in the most common languages you would want to learn, but you can also learn more than just 3 words in 1 day. It provides verbal and written versions of a word and even puzzles you to spell it. Really recommend this app if you want to learn a language fast and easy..Version: 2.3.38

Feedback for the creator and my opinionI love the aesthetic of this app, although there is one thing that annoys me. There is a speaker button you have to press which is small, and sometimes when I click it, it thinks I’m trying to click that as my answer when I’m trying to listen to the speaker? This ends up making me press the wrong answer that I did not want to pick. Could you please fix this it would be greatly appreciated. Other than that I have learned so much from completing lessons and now I understand and know a lot more from the languages I chose to learn..Version: 2.3.58

Easy and funThe full app is easy to use and ensures you improve your vocabulary and grammar through read, writing and listening skills. There are also a lot of languages to learn which means you won’t get bored. Although I paid for it you have to think - there’s a lot of time and resources sunk into this app to ensure a quality product. Those people deserve to be paid and you won’t waste your money if you’re actually committed to learning the language..Version: 2.3.11

Very good! This app is honestly life changing. Worked very well for me compared to other apps ありがとう.Version: 3.1.7

Amazing(no lie)Please do NOT download Duolingo but download this. You are not wasting your time. It’s so easy and convenient to use. You can track a daily goal listen say and then get tested on words yo learnt. You can also review them. There are almost no ads at all and you don’t have to pay. You can listen to how locals pronounce words, test yourselves and scan items to see how they are pronounced. There is a variety of languages to choose from and it also has it’s own website online. You can record your voice to hear how you sound and set reminders. This app is AMAZING. I’m trying to learn French then maybe Spanish. You aren’t wasting your time downloading this app.Version: 3.0.6

An incredible appThis app is simply stunning not only in its effectiveness but also simply the way it looks and feels when you use it. I used to use Duolingo only and now I simply use that app to compliment this one! Another great aspect would be that you don’t have to necessarily pay to learn, you can learn everything you need for free but at the same time you can purchase the premium membership (a membership, might i add, that is definitely worth it) so as to enhance your experience and learn faster. I have been referring my friends to use this app and they all seem to like it. Personally I have been using it for French for maybe a few months now, and i simply love the program, and I plan to use it to learn german starting around the new year. I was also wondering if perhaps you could add in some more languages, my key example being Hindi, as both myself and friends (and I’m sure many others who use this app) would be thrilled to see more languages added. So to put it simply, everyone I know who uses this app as well as myself simply adore it, and want to thank, and congratulate you, on your tremendous effort you have put into it, so as to help us all learn, and better ourselves..Version: 2.3.36

Memory PowerMemrise uses spaced repetition in order to help you memorize a word or phrase, as well as it has an option for mnemonics, which I think is great. I love memrise and I’ve been using it for 2 years with pro membership for learning languages. Nonetheless, there are some things I really hate. For example, some people cheat making ridiculous amounts of points and that makes me feel mad because the points I make I put the effort and time for them. So I think it’ll be a good idea to have limited amounts of points you can make in a day, something reasonable and human-capable. Another issue I have is I’m a pro member and I can’t even review a general course with pronunciation, learn with locals, and listening skills. That was something that was available before and not anymore. It only works with individual lessons. So, why paying a membership if I can’t even make use of those features in a broader way? When I review words in the website, it gives me +150 points per word/phrase whereas in the phone it only gives me +5, and I think that’s ridiculous. It should be even, doesn’t it? A year ago I gave 5 stars to the app, but now I’ll give it just 4 because there are things to improve..Version: 2.3.48

Memrise deez nutsGreat app. A bit finicky at first but all round easy to use. Would recommend.Version: 2022.2.28

Good but...Overall, the App. is great. There are some tweaks which I would suggest you make to improve it. Some buttons are too small, like the speaker icon for repeating the audio - if you don’t hit it exactly dead-on, it won’t play the audio. Also, some multiple choice exercises are irritating because, when one already knows the answer, but has to rummage through six choices of wildly different options to find it, it can just be a waste of time. A better option would be, instead of having six options to choose from all wildly different and none of which, except the correct choice, vaguely resembling the correct answer, you could have two or three options which are all similar in meaning to the correct answer - this way the searching has a purpose, rather than just slowing down the process of finding an the obvious answer. Update - Also, the multiple-choice exercise is often so slow in responsiveness that often I’ll tap a choice and nothing will happen. If you try to tap them in order with any speed at all, some will not respond and you’ll end up with a jumbled up sentence that you then have to waste time fixing. These are small and easily fixable things, so it’d be a shame if they were left-in..Version: 3.0.7

Love this app!I started off like many people using Duolingo for my language learning. While I like Duolingo for learning and brushing up on my Spanish, when it came time to dabble in Korean, the app was a hot mess with learning it. It started off with Hangul (the Korean characters) and needless to say I was confused from the jump. I downloaded Memrise to learn Korean and I absolutely fell in love with how it progresses you with the lessons. I bought the pro plan because I am serious about learning Korean. With a few other side learning materials to learn Hangul, I found learning Korean fun and ways with Memrise. I’ve been using it for about 5 months off and on, can I speak fluently? No. Can I read Hangul and recognize certain phrases? Yes! It was a big help for me when I went to Korea last month. I will be renewing my membership and continuing my studies using this app. The only thing I can suggest is an option where you can slow down the pronunciation of words and phrases. And maybe add an official Hangul course to start off with. Other than that, great app..Version: 2.3.57

Mems are really usefulPreviously I’ve used other language learning apps and had to do the work of the mems by myself in my head which was quite difficult but now it’s all here for me it’s a lot easier. The app also provides many chances for learning a lot of other languages which I’ve had a difficult experience trying to find elsewhere. My only issue is, when I first attempted to get the app it came across as you had to pay to do anything which really confused me. Altogether this app has helped me a lot with my vocabulary and for that I’m thankful.Version: 2.3.57

In depth & varied learningIt starts you with the basics and you learn in a variety of different ways which makes the app interesting and effective! Including listening, reading and writing. Conversations with a pre-programmed bot is included, and while effective, it seems to throw you in the deep end with reading questions in kanji that are not yet learned. Luckily you don’t need to know what the names and activities are as you can work out the answer by coping from the question given to you, however maybe the english translation can be given with the kanji? Once you answer the question it does then tell you what the question was you just answered was in english, though it was awkward at first. Never the less, I am learning Japanese! and may even look at another language as many languages are avaliable to learn on this app!.Version: 2.3.16

GoodGood.Version: 2024.2.3

Top marksReally enjoy learning from the app. Thank you.Version: 3.1.12

My learning here has personality, and I see myself!I’ve been trying everything that’s out there to teach me some needed words and interactive expressions. This app has helped me to fill an empty space in my language learning. I was slightly annoyed with how much time it took me to complete the first level, especially since I have been studying and practicing intensely for the past 8 months. My first college course was 10 years ago, and I’ve been using some fantastic programs to help me learn and speak. Memrise came at just the right moment for me, as I am anxious to launch into conversations with the many native speakers around me. I’m only on Mexican Spanish 2, and the phrases have been so fun! I can see myself expressing my own thoughts with my own personality in conversation. I’m practicing in my mind (and out loud) without using the app as well. I’m speeding through at this point because I already have a lot of knowledge and recent experience with Spanish learning. I’m certain that I’ll slow down eventually. When I compare the process to learning how to play the piano, this app uses melodic phrases rather than presenting a song one note at a time. I don’t know how I would like it as a day zero beginner, but I’ll find out as I venture into other languages. I’m certain it works best when used everyday. What I really like is that I can make my own flash cards, or I can keep grinding and let the app do that work for me. ¡Eso es maravilloso!.Version: 3.2.20

Amazing! but i have one issueI love this app so much!! i’ve had it for about 20 hours and i was getting excited to do my next session of learning korean. unfortunately, i can’t proceed because it wants me to pay. just when i found the PERFECT app to learn a language with, it turns out it isn’t actually perfect. i unfortunately cannot pay because i don’t have any money because i’m a minor. i love absolutely love to keep learning with this app, but now i can’t. i would love for this app to be just free with ads with the choice of paying for extra features, but now i’m completely blocked from learning a language that i’ve wanted to learn for years. i’ve tried to learn korean multiple times with many apps and this app actually seems like it’s perfect for me, but now i can’t use it anymore. i understand that’s how you make money, but ads are also a way to make money, so why not just do that instead and leave people the option of they want to pay for extra features? let’s say maybe you can only learn a certain amount every day, but if you pay, you can learn as much as you want. see? that would be so much better. i’m actually so sad now that i can’t use this app anymore because it’s so good and i’ve never started to learn a language this fast on my own with an app. i hope you can maybe fix this so i can keep going!!.Version: 3.1.43

I knew I'd like it when I first saw it.I was recommended to try out Talk To Me In Korean! which was not a pleasant experience to try and navigate it or understand the words because they use an automated voice to pronounce the words, whereas Memrise uses actual people to pronounce the words. So right now I'm trying to learn Korean and Arabic because I feel like those are two challenging languages for someone whose first language is English and has tried French (with little success) and Spanish (which came easy to me). The only problem I really have is that I want to go back and try words that I don't feel sure on and I can't, or I just haven't found the way to do that yet. If I do find it, I'll be even happier than I already am. Also, being able to learn languages in terms of how the words and letters/characters are pronounced and also what they look like (if they don't use romanized characters--like with English letters) is really nice in this app, so thanks again Memrise for making it easier to learn languages!.Version: 2.3.11

Good, but there’s a few issues. This app is extremely useful for learning my weekly vocabulary tests for Spanish at school. However, I do have a couple of issues with the app: Firstly, when you are learning a long word, it will never ask you to type it. Instead, there will be a test where you pick the correct order of words. There should be at least an option for this to change, because it is a little annoying. Next, during the tests where you put the correct words in order, the hit boxes are a little small. This means that when you tap them, they don’t always react meaning that you have to tap them again. Finally, as of issues that have only started occurring recently (22 October 2019), I have noticed that when you go in for a classic review, it sometimes skips the first word during the test. Another, that I have found even more recently is when you go onto a typing test, the keyboard doesn’t automatically pop up anymore so I have to tap the place where I am supposed to type before I can write my answer. Anyway, good app! Hope these will be fixed soon..Version: 3.1.6

Awesome appLoving Memrise so far - great layout, easy to use and comes back to words/phrases until you learn them.Version: 2.2.35

(Would be 5 stars) Great... BUTReally great app for learning languages, the best I've come across. Would be 5 star, but put 1 star to hopefully get the simple issues below resolved. Four downsides: 1) It used to auto-"check" when putting words in the right order, just like it does when you're spelling a word. Please bring this back! It threw me off after the original change, now it's annoying it takes longer and doesn't let you fix it when you see it's not correct – it's much better to learn this way. 2) When putting words in the right order, there's still no dragging, so you have to delete all of the words if you got the order wrong. Please fix this – it wastes so much time when learning! 3) When spelling words out, sometimes the space button is below the screen, so can't be tapped (iPhone X). Please fix! 4) When spelling words out, please allow long press / 3D touch of space bar to move the cursor. This would make it much easier to fix a spelling mistake and match the functionality of the iOS keyboards..Version: 2.3.57

Memrise 😊This app is Amazing!! It help me learn Japanese so quick and so effectively. It kept on reminding me to keep going and revising and I did !! I could also review the things I learnt in the last lesson and could see what I had left too learn. There were many different things to learn like places alphabet and much more and many options for languages. There were also videos and visual representations Thank you so much!.Version: 2021.7.12

The BEST! 👌🏽✅👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼I am Loving this app!¡ Estoy muy contento! The repetition gets a little tedious BUT I really need it! I can’t believe how much I’ve learnt in six steady days of learning! Thanks Memrise!.Version: 2.3.55

Best language appDear memorise team, First off, I love the app, it’s the best one I have come across so far. Have learnt so much from it, maybe even more than from my tutor, but alas I have a bone to pick. Your recent updates have caused more issues than they have fixed. To be honest I didn’t see any issues before, but now the app closes down half way through a lesson or before I even start the lesson. Please fix this as soon as possible, as it it stopping me from learning at the pace this app has allowed me to learn in the past. Thank you for your time.Version: 2.3.25

Clever and Fun! However...A very fun and engaging way to learn a language. Broken down into edible chunks and great at helping to make the newly learned bits and pieces stick in your mind. HOWEVER, as someone using it for Japanese, the learning curve jump from Hiragana to Kanji is too fast. It never finishes teaching you Hiragana in stage 1 and suddenly jumps to learning phrases with Kanji. This would be okay if it also broke down learning the Kanji as we did the Hiragana. In short, I’m left guessing the answers the further I progress through stage 1, which means I’m not learning anything. I’m looking at symbols I don’t know the direct meaning of or if it’s a fixed sound. When you have to learn an entirely new alphabet (one with three separate “alphabets” to be exact) as well as grammar and discourse, I think there need to be more stages before jumping into mixing up Hiragana & Kanji - especially because we don’t learn the full Hiragana! Aargh. So I like the app. It’s great. But the Japanese option could do with a bit of revision before I pay for it..Version: 2.3.10

Solid learning appI’ve tried several language-learning apps and Memrise is by far my favorite. It has an intuitive user interface and makes learning a language easy. In my opinion, the “Learn With Locals” feature is what really sets it sort from other platforms. Hearing a robotic voice read something is often worlds apart from how native speakers actually pronounce things, so hearing locals speaks gives me a much better feel of how words and sentences flow together. It also prepares me better for speaking with native speakers in real life. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the “speaking practice” feature. It’s good, but the speech recognition definitely has room for improvement. There are times I’ve said things correctly, but it says it’s wrong- I’ve played my recorded voice and the demo voice right after each other and they sound exactly the same. I’ve even given it to my native-speaking friends and they can’t get it to accept the voice clip. It’s not all the time, but it’s usually at least one phrase each “session” of Speaking Practice..Version: 3.2.27

Really recommend, better than other learning appsIf you are looking to learn how locals actually speak this is the app for you. In my search for a language learning app I have downloaded all of them and found Memrise the most enjoyable, user friendly but not for dummies, with actual useful phrases unlike their competitors who made me learn “Art is sacrifice” - not that it isn’t, but this isn’t my first choice for words when I arrive in a foreign country. I would like to see more conversation like videos and interactive learning but I am sure these will come and can’t wait to see future versions of the app. All in all it’s worth the money (I was surprised this isn’t the most expensive app either)..Version: 3.1.7

Generally goodI use the Spanish advanced program to improve my vocabulary and most definitions are accurate but there are some exceptions where the translation is not the generally used meaning ( according to Collins). there are also some words where the sound is missing. It would be good to have a feature that allow you to report errors or bugs. overall though it’s good and excellent value for money.Version: 3.1.16

MemriseVery good language learning app! Working through Japanese and plan on hitting Russian and German at some point. The $99 for life cost seems well worth it, with other language learning programs costing twice that much for just one language. Great value, when you think about it! I’m using a Kanji-learning app to supplement my Japanese studies, as the rite-memorization method used for Memrise doesn’t help with actually LEARNING the characters. Being able to draw them with this other tool is helping my comprehension tremendously, though I suspect this is an issue solely with languages that have a VASTLY different writing system. My only true gripe with Memrise (and it’s really a problem with other language programs as well) is that it’s great to memorize phrases, but it doesn’t really help you learn to adapt the sentence structure to use additional vocabulary. You can infer some of that, but finding a way to work this into the program would set Memrise well above its competitors! Also, I really liked the space theme... can you add an option to go back to that at user’s preference? The new color scheme makes my eyes bleed! XD Thanks!.Version: 3.0.13

Simply awesome. ★彡This app has helped me SO much with learning multiple languages. The design is aesthetically pleasing and every part of the app is easy to access (+ the point system is great and feels very rewarding) Even with the free version, there are several tools to assist with progressing through a wide range of languages and topics. Memrise is easy, fun, informative and by far the best educational app that I have used so far. Hopefully, there will be more courses in the future so everybody can continue their adventure for the language they are exploring! ♥︎ Massive Thanks to The Memrise Team! ♡ Just a teeny-tiny suggestion for a future update: It would be super awesome to be able to edit our Memrise profile within the app rather than going to the website, although this is barely a problem at all!.Version: 2.3.0

An amazing app!I love the way they use so many native speakers in the lessons and tests. The comprehension tests are great! I also really like the immersion, TikTok-like feature. There are a few small bugs and the social features could be improved a lot. The main problem there is that it’s like going through a maze trying to figure out how to add people. If they improve this feature it would outrun Duolingo and the others by a mile. That being said, it already has the lead for sure! Thanks for making such a great app and at a good price point! 😊.Version: 2022.8.30

Fab!I have been using this app for sometime now, it’s my go to app whenever I have a bit of time to continue learning a language. I have been away for some time and recently came back, I’ve been learning Korean but recently found an interest in Spanish. Definitely tempting to get the full version now especially with learning multiple languages. One thing I’d say to be mindful of if you use the free version, in the free version the only thing available is review or starting the course again. The review feature is brilliant when consistent with your learning but unusable when away for a period of time, as I just find myself guessing and making lots of mistakes and I just add to my difficult words which I can’t access without a subscription. This doesn’t take away from the app entirely, its just a bit daunting to come back to and have to completely restart again if you’ve been away..Version: 2022.1.17

MemriseMemrise is awesome! I have been learning Spanish for 4 years now, and I am progressing really quickly. I really like how it reminds you to review, so that you don’t forget the words and phrases you have learned..Version: 3.0.5

Community Content will be hobbledI’ve enjoyed and paid for this app for a while, but I’ve just been told that all community-created courses — which is to say, the vast majority of the courses available, and the majority of the courses that I use — will be removed from the app shortly and placed on a website with far less functionality. This is extremely disappointing. I am hurt that MemRise will remove these useful courses while I and many others are in the middle of learning from them. I am not convinced that the few remaining MemRise-created courses are high enough quality to justify the continued use of the app. ETA — while I do not appreciate the response sent to my review, which falsely implies that the Decks website was originally designed to have anywhere near the functionality of MemRise (as their announcements made clear, it was not), I do appreciate that they have listened to the customer outrage over this decision and made a better decision. Decks will now be designed to have an app with offline mode (a crucial feature for many users, such as myself) and community courses will be able to remain on MemRise while the app is being developed. Changing my review to 5 stars..Version: 2.4.3

Great Japanese Course—But No Katakana? When it was on sale I purchased a year-long subscription to the app and I’ve been really happy with it so far! It has a lot of great features and is intuitive to use but there are a few things I’ve been wondering about. I majored in Japanese in college so using the Japanese II course in the app has been mostly review, which is fine, and I’m excited to get to Japanese III to see more new material, but so far the app has included no usage of katakana, and has only been teaching kanji separate from the vocab and grammar taught in the app. Ultimately words written in katakana are never practically written in hiragana, and while it’s been handy learning the kanji individually, I guess I just hope the app begins integrating both in more fully with the vocabulary and grammar being taught. I’d like to renew my subscription for next year if it seems there’ll be more to learn from it, but I suppose I’m wondering if a developer has any information on if I just haven’t gotten far enough in the lessons to see katakana and kanji become actually integrated or if there’s a plan for that in the future and if a Japanese IV is perhaps in the works? So for anyone who’s looking for an app with a good Japanese course, this is definitely the best I’ve seen, but it still feels like there’s an amount missing that you see available intermediate Japanese text and workbooks..Version: 3.2.0

Great app but something troubled meTeaches you basics main words which you need to know. Shows you videos which can be more entertaining and shows you the words which came up in the videos. Allows you to study the speech carefully showing both someone speaking and an ai which may be more clear in pronunciation. There’s also an ai chat section which is very entertaining and feels like you are putting the words you learned to better use. However there was a problem I found troubling me: For the ai conversation section, it was impossible for me to type in some languages unless I had the keyboard for it (e.g. Arabic, Korean, Japanese /ect) so I couldn’t type myself and practise unless I was to type in English (without much learning experience coming from that). So, I would like you to add a keyboard automatically come up while learning (like the Translate app which comes on Apple phones automatically).Version: 2024.3.28

Pretty well-roundedI’ve tried so many language apps, and this one is so far my favorite. It’s very immersive and repetitive, letting you hear, see, and say the words. I tried the Russian and the Korean courses as far as I could for the free version. For the Russian one, it gives you a conversation and has you answer a question about it at the end - you won’t understand everything said, but you’ll be able to grasp enough to answer the question. It’s very cool and motivating. There are a couple of things that I think could be added/addressed to make it even better. For one, writing practice. It does have you type words, but it doesn’t show you how to actually write either Hangul or the Cyrillic alphabets. The second thing is making a point to differentiate between formal and informal versions of words. So far, it’s only taught the informal versions for both languages - which is a huge no-no in Korean at least. I’m not sure how seriously formality is taken in Russia, but - still, you want to be able to greet a stranger properly (for example, hello is здравствуйте (zdravstvutye) for formal, привет (privyet) for informal). Even aside from that, this is the best learning app I’ve tried from what I can tell..Version: 3.2.24

Better understandingsThis app has helped me to understand words in different languages better. Right now I’m a student in Australia studying Japanese and I downloaded this app because I wanted to learn a different language to what I was learning (Russian) then realising that I cannot finish that course unless I pay for premium. So, I moved onto learning Japanese and I continued learning through different skills. I cannot wait to learn the other languages that I can learn. This app helps me learn through interaction of people who speak the language and this helps me because I know how to say like the people who speak the language I thank the Memrise team for putting this app, it’s a real piece of art 👌👌.Version: 3.0.10

Amazing app all around, could have more freestyle quizzesI love this app to me it’s honestly the best one out there. Everything is built around the learner and they even give you real people saying the words instead of just robots. I’m doing Japanese on the app and only have one small issue, while the app does have several quiz options such as “difficult words” or “speed review” it doesn’t have the option to review past words that you want. It’ll select several words it thinks you should review instead of asking you. Of course there is the ability to add a word to “difficult words” making so it shows up in the “difficult words” quiz, but this does not include words that I’ve learned but know I’ve already forgotten. And while I may not be looking in the right place, there also seems to be no dictionary where I can view the words or phrases I already know. I’m still giving this app 5 stars for its initiative taken in giving the user the proper teaching tool for learning a new language..Version: 2022.7.8

DOWNLOAD NOWI am a Spanish teacher who is fluent in English and Spanish. I decided to take French lessons from Spanish to French, because in my opinion Spanish is closer to French then English is. The lessons from Spanish to French are PHENOMENAL! They offer literal translations too, which is super helpful for understanding French grammar. The lessons have a diverse cast of native speakers so you can hear REAL people speaking the language, and also hear the nuances in tone, expression, body language, and how the people move their mouths to form the words. The app is engaging, and teaches you how to actually learn a living, breathing language instead of pointless exercises with animations (like Duolingo does.) Thanks Memrise, for including courses for Spanish speakers learning other languages. I hope you guys add a Spanish-Portuguese course, given that Portuguese is even closer to Spanish than French is. También aprecio las lecciones gratis, y cuando paso más tiempo en esta app me encantaría comprar la versión avanzada aunque me va a costar jeje :) amor y besos.Version: 2022.4.26

Pretty great for beginnersIn my opinion, this is great for beginners (at least in Japanese) coming from someone who has taken a language class, it categorizes the alphabets and particles while learning a few phrases along the way. I’ve recently wanted to learn Japanese but my high school schedule doesn’t allow for me to take a language class yet, and I’m very eager to start since my dad has been talking about visiting Sasebou. I was exposed to the culture and animated movies at a young age and always had an appreciation for Japan. But lately whenever I use the app to learn new words the ad for a premium membership comes up. I’ll say no thanks and try to press the learn new words button and the same message pops back up. This has struck me dead in my tracks as I was trying at least once a day to practice and made good distance in the hiragana alphabet. I’ve tried other apps and they’re not what I need right now. Many people think it’s a glitch since even I can still go past the launch pads on my school account/laptop. This app is great besides that setback, please try to fix it please.Version: 2.3.22

Better then Duolingo imoThis app makes learning a language pretty magical. My favourite feature is you have a little Pokémon like creature who evolves as you level up..Version: 2.3.20

Can’t recommend enough.Only started using this app 2 days ago. I have been trying to learn Polish seriously for around 3 months, I have many resources at my disposal, I have books, my partner is Polish and I have been to the country twice. Nothing I have tried comes close to this app, it’s brilliant. Within 20 minutes I knew I was going to pay for the subscription to get pro features, 5 minutes later it offered me 50% off for the year which I have taken. The camera scanning of objects to translate is really impressive, this tech isn’t perfect but it understands an astonishing amount. Genuinely recommend trying this and exploring its innovative teaching style..Version: 2.3.25

MemriseGreat app. Written and reading language coming along very fast. However I wish I could practice pronunciation by listening to each question and saying..Version: 2022.2.28

Great appVery interactive. Reading, spelling and listening 👍👍.Version: 2.3.58

Great tool to help memorising new words, but there are bugs...The latest Christmas has a serious bug. The input field is hidden by iOS keyboard if letter bank is not used. Please fix this as soon as possible! I’d also like a feature to allow users to adjust review algorithms for each course, as I find words in some languages are harder to remember and would prefer them to be reviewed more frequently. Even for each courses, I find the review intervals seem to be set for young people, who on average has a better retention rate than older people like me..Version: 2.3.57

Best app ever!!Hi guys, Memrise app is the best. So fun!! Enjoying everything. I’m learning Korean I’m just a beginner and I love the lil videos of the local Koreans talking and saying haja! And kaja! Which means let’s do it and let’s go!! Great phrases and easy to understand:) I’m enjoying the pace it’s not too fast which is really good because I’m a slow learner. Maybe learning Korean won’t be as hard as I thought!! I love K-Pop and K dramas so am learning Korean I hope to go to SouthKorea next year with my mum! One day, I’ll be a natural Korean speaker with the help of my little Memrise app!! Thanks Memrise for the great techniques and slowish pace and the classic reviews are amazing I’ve been using this app on and off for about three years and never had any issues with it. Love it it’s easy to start and not daunting at all. Hope the developer is doing well and hope Memrise continues for many more years to come!.Version: 3.1.12

Get Memrise, it’s amazing! This app is so helpful in studying for exams and just learning any kind of language. I highly recommend this app for anyone of any skill level, as I was able to learn an incredible amount of Japanese in one day! This app is very user-friendly, being easy to use, containing a wide variety of languages and being encouraging with a leveling system and daily goals. I love this app so much and I thank Memrise so much for everything that they have done to make Memrise the incredible learning tool that it is! Easily five stars..Version: 2.3.25

AMAZING!!!!SO much better than duolingo over all. this is the best app i've used for learning korean. it's accurate, and not at all frustrating. completely free with great features as is, and ad free!!!!! i've been a loyal user for years now and i've never wanted to switch to anything else. as far as constructive criticism for the app goes, the ONLY things i would suggest to change is adding a slow audio track to listen to as well, and the option to say things like duolingo has, but for free. maybe even if not fully free - have it to where you can test the feature every so often, or after using the app for (x) amount of time a day? with a language like polish or russian for me, it's better for me to be able to listen to the audio slowly to really hear the syllables and to pronounce the words and/or phrases better. i think it would be nice to be able to say things out loud without having a premium plan (comparative to duolingo, since they have it for free), but before that, i'd want the slow audio track option. over all, i'd give it 9/10 stars if this was a 10 star ranking system. i'm giving a full 5 on here, because over all, this is an amazing app. i love being able to easily see everything i've learned on here, the vast variety of languages you can choose from to learn, the order words are presented to you on here, and there's even more options on the desktop version than there is on the app!! to the memrise team, please keep doing what you're doing!!.Version: 3.1.17

AmazingI really find this helpful I’m finding new words that didn’t know! I just wish I didn’t have to buy the full course 😭.Version: 3.1.2

Love itI only just started. But so far best learning app I know. Not only will I learn words and to speak a different language but also hear it from actual people to understand accents as well. I tried on other apps. And after hearing some words from real people I still didn’t know what they said as it’s slightly different from the AI voices. UNTIL NOW! Only problem I might have that I haven’t run into yet is the monthly payment thing. So far as a free app it’s amazing. I’m just a bit worried that there will be a limit and it’ll just stop working until I pay. But so far so good.Version: 3.0.9

Very goodThis is a fun way of learning cue cards. I’m really enjoying it. Not sure if my subscription is really worth it though, you do get access to other lessons, but they don’t have the same quality and sound as though they’ve just been ‘made up’ by anyone. It would be great if some of these, like ‘500 most common words’ could be done in the same format as the main lessons. But a better way of spending time rather than playing games. It does have that game feeling, which stops the tediousness that learning a language sometimes can have. I think there are some changes that could be made, like before moving on so quickly, the meaning of the word and vocal prompt should be given, I feel it’s too quick and sometimes I’m just guessing right and don’t find the meaning of the word until the end of a test (perhaps an option to have this turned on). I also think that perhaps it moves on too fast and doesn’t give older phrases or words enough reminders before continuing. There should be a way to work through a more structured lesson; rather than random words, specific words, perhaps the ones that have been difficult in the past or less looked at words and phrases..Version: 3.1.43

I switched apps to MemriseMore enjoyable than Duolingo - not as monotonous and picks up when you’ve learnt a word without bashing it to death..Version: 2.3.49

Love it, fantastic, value-rich appThis app really is fantastic, it’s clear that it was designed and executed with care and effort, with genuine concern for using methods that stand out above competitors. Love it and will keep using for as long as I continue to gain value from it. There aren’t many apps out there that are worth paying fees for, and some people seem to think that quality should always magically come for free. ReviewThis app it very very helpful if wanting to learn a language.Version: 2.3.6

I finally bought the full subscription after 4 yearsI have been using memrise for maybe 4 years, it is by far the most enjoyable and interactive. I love this app and all it offers. Never breaks down, always keeps me on my toes and moves at any pace. UPDATE: Wow! I’ve been using the full version of the app for maybe 2 weeks and I am blown away. I can’t even figure out how I know things. The one improvement I could suggest is maybe asking in mother tongue what something is and letting us type or speak it in our lessons without other prompts, as sometimes I know what things are because of the repeated video or pattern of words, but I know I wouldn’t be able to recall without these visual and audio cues..Version: 2021.8.9

Good vocab builderI’ve used Memrise for 2 languages for travel (Spanish and Korean) and one language for advanced proficiency (Japanese) and have generally found that, like all flash card apps, its utility varies a lot depending on the quality of the deck. Its lower level decks are generally good for drilling vocabulary, and in conjunction with other learning methods can be a good way to solidify basic vocabulary recognition. It is worth checking out, I think, as combining listening, reading, and spelling words is much more effective than standard flash card drilling. Some decks do not have clear translations, especially at advanced levels; more than once I’ve encountered a multiple choice question with duplicate answers. Oh, one other thing; it goes SLOW, especially at lower levels. Your mileage may vary on whether you appreciate that, but as far as I can tell there’s no real test-out feature that allows you to skip words you already know. I prefer to be thorough and take the lower levels even if I already know maybe 50-60% of the words, but this makes it VERY annoying to do that..Version: 3.2.11

Good way to learnAwesome languages and amazing ways to learn good way to learn languages without going to a school yay.Version: 2.3.17

What I was missing with Duolingo - but too pricyI love Duolingo and use it every day, but I find some languages on the app are better set up than others. When I started learning Danish, I kept using it as obsessively as I had with other languages, but I found that something was missing. Memrise fills in the gap with native speakers in brief clips, reinforcing the correct pronunciation I’d been struggling with mastering on the Duolingo app. It’s also so helpful to see phrases and words in repetition on this app, which helps enormously with memorizing new words. I’m going to use both of these apps in tandem and I’m extremely excited to start using Memrise as part of my daily routine and to try out other languages on the app as well. I’m only on level two but I love it so far! EDIT: However, I think it is incredibly pricy for the limited amount of words that are available. The highest level will get you some elementary vocabulary, but 60 a year or 9 dollars a month is just far too expensive for something that does not get you in depth understanding of the language. It is set up incredibly well but until the developers offer a higher level of fluency and additional levels I can’t imagine myself paying for it, which is very disappointing..Version: 2.3.11

Enjoying it so far...The app is very educational and teaches languages in a way that seems easy to understand for a variety of ages. Although I am enjoying it, when my free trial is up, I probably won’t bother paying for the app. I would like to see Memrise change their app to completely free because it’d be one of the only free ones and certainly one of the best. If the app was free it would definitely be the app I’d want to use. That’s my only complaint for the app. That would be the best update for the best app. Keep it up Memrise team :).Version: 2.4.3

Good; but a lot of room for improvementLet’s start with the positives: Having a GIF of a real french person say a word or phrase brings the language to life and adds to the experience immeasurably Having regularly posted short, upbeat and whimsical videos where the hosts discuss a topic add a touch of immersion and provides a method by which I can test my knowledge by seeing how much I understand. The review function is brilliant, takes the work out of manually going back to review past material and it creates a mixed material deck using the science of spaced repetition which is even better. Improvements: The point scoring is borderline pointless, would be much better if there was achievements/badges to collect instead (streak of 30 days, learnt 20 words in a day, etc...) Personally would love to have a option where I can choose which types of learning methods are used. For instance I prefer to use flash cards, it says a word in English or french, I tap to reveal the answer and swipe left or right if I got it right. Personally find multiple choice too easy and gives a false sense of understanding and success. Would like to see more of the GIF’s after the initial introduction of a word/phrase. For the ‘immerse’ videos, would like to turn off the subtitles all together not just switch between English and french, so I’m solely reliant on understanding what is being said through listening and seeing how they said it..Version: 3.1.34

Iv learned a lot in one day, highly recommended!Get it already !!!.Version: 2.3.38

Good for schoolThis helped me with my homework and help me get good grades!!.Version: 2.2.35

One of my favorite appsI use three language apps in total. Memrise, Rosetta Stone, and Duolingo. Memrise is by far my favorite. I’ve used them for almost three years now. I liken it to teaching a child with word/item correlation. That flash card heavy curriculum is what makes it efficient. The best part is the videos of native speakers that speak in different regional accents, cadences, and tones. This was particularly noticeable in the French language course and made it easy to understand French at work spoken between coworkers from Cameroon, Paris, Togo, and Haiti. I’m currently studying the Spanish language course, and it’s just as efficient. My only caveat is the quality of the “homemade” videos audio in the Spanish course. Some videos are louder than others, some are professionally recorded, and some sound like they were recorded using a doorknob. This wasn’t something I experienced with French. But it requires my to raise the volume repeatedly then lower it which is distracting for a long study session. It’s still very much a five star app, and I know Memrise is always pushing and making improvements..Version: 2023.3.16

Please add Tagalog (Filipino)!! 🇵🇭It would be nice to add Tagalog into this app ☺️ definitely alot of people hoping you guys would add it!.Version: 2024.1.8

Better than other language appsFirstly this is the first free app that I've come across that teaches Spanish rather than South American Spanish. I have Spanish heritage and family that live in Spain so it's nice to be able to further enhance my knowledge so I can engage with their friends more confidently. This app teaches helpful phrases that you would likely use in daily situations (helpful for me as whenever I go to Spain I frequently get mistaken for a native due to my features) and it encourages you to use correct punctuation. I like how it has videos of natives speaking too. It would be nice if this app was totally free and if you had the opportunity to speak, but you can't have everything I suppose..Version: 2.3.15

Getting better and betterI’ve been using Memrise for years.. I started way back when anyone could make a learning deck and almost left when they took that feature away and made it exclusively their own learning decks. And while I do wish they would in some way reincorporate that feature I am glad that I stayed (and became a pro member) because everything else they’ve done with the app keeps getting better and better. I love the new grammar learning sections so you’re actually learning grammar rules and not just memorizing vocabulary, and I really hope they expand that and add audio to it. I also really love the learning with locals sections, and I really hope they expand those as well. That’s probably the most effective thing around for hearing how a native speaker would actually say what you’re learning. All in all, this is one of the best language learning tools out there. I would (and do) choose it over duolingo anytime (especially seeing duolingos new model). Combining memrise with something like Michel Thomas audio, some native books and movies, and an app that connects you to native speakers, and you can learn a language from scratch to fluent in 6-12 months..Version: 2.3.58

AmazingThis app is great! I have been looking far and wide for an app to learn Icelandic on, and I want to become fluent. The audio clips from natives are very helpful, as are the different types of learning on the app. ( typing, selecting the correct audio, etc.) I have not used Memrise for long, but can already see this is the app for me. I have not paid for premium but the regular features are awesome. I do think that maybe downloading courses to access offline should be included with regular though. I only have one suggestion: have slowed down clips as an option if you can’t quite catch what they’re saying, as the natives do tend to talk rather quickly. Or have a phonetic spelling of each word, especially as Icelandic is a rather difficult and complex language in which the same letter can make multiple sounds ( of course, the same can be said of most languages). Thank you developers for this beautiful, extensive, and useful app!! 10/10 would absolutely recommend..Version: 3.1.30

There are padlocked courses?I can't access more of the app without buying a subscription. Before, the course used to be free (granted, you'd have to access the courses online but it was doable considering the stable wi-fi connection I have at home) but they're locked with a padlock that you cannot access. I find this feature quite irritating as my learning goal is 30 words a day. I cannot reach 30 words a day through a limit. I will buy a subscription and see if my experience is better with one, but so far, despite the padlocked courses (yes - I am bitter about that) I do rate Memrise quite highly. The courses and fun and repetitive so you know what you have to do quite easily - the "Ziggy" mechanic is new to me but is very encouraging due to it being... Very cute. I have a soft spot for my Ziggy now..Version: 2.3.5

This is pretty fineI downloaded this app like a week ago. I’m in a Japanese class at school and I just wanted to help myself get better. It’s a pretty great app honestly I’ve used it probably twice a day every day and it quite fun to use. Not only that but the free part of it is good which is always and bonus and it allows you to take more than one corse at a time which is cool. I’m just testing it out so far but I’m considering using this on a daily bases to help me study. Great app keep up the good work!!!.Version: 2.3.4

I love it!!!This app is amazing. It isn’t like other language apps where it teaches you words you can’t use until you learn everything. This teaches you the things you need to communicate then gets harder. It feels like an actual teacher is in front of you and teaching you. The fact it has true people is great. It’s amazing and I would always recommend it. 🎖🎖🎖🎖🎖.Version: 2.3.62

Could be Perfect With A few Tweaks!I’ll try not to repeat what others have said about the good points of this app, but a couple of things I’ve noticed as a Pro subscriber: Clubs! It would be great to have them as I’m all alone on the leaderboard and it would be great to be able to talk to people and nose at their progress. Also, sometimes the next objective seems a bit random, (review/new words etc) and it’s a bit disheartening thinking I’m just getting anything thrown at me with not much logic. It also took me ages to realize that you can go back to the hub area as the arrow in the top left is so hard to see. Finally, it would be nice if the tabs at the bottom were a bit more useful. The new language one isn’t exactly going to be used often, the camera thing is terrible and can’t recognize anything, and the profile doesn’t have much information. I do really like this app, but it could be great with a bit of improvement. :).Version: 2.3.19

I think the app could be improved!I love the memrise website for language learning, and I would love to continue learning on my phone with this app, but it still doesn't have as many features and just isn't as convenient and helpful as the website on a computer is. I really would love to see the Speed Review option available on the app because it is on the website, but sadly, not on the app. I love the download for offline usage option in the app though, because I can continue studying anywhere with it, but I feel that I use Speed Review the most so I can't fully take advantage of this option when I am trying to refresh my mind of a large amount of vocabulary. Something else I would love to see on the app is the option of adding new courses. That is something I can only do on the website but I would love to be able to explore and try studying new languages during my free time on my phone, since I also tend to use my phone more than my laptop. These are my two biggest grievances, but other than those I truly love using memrise!.Version: 3.1.12

Good, but not perfectI’ve used Memrise to learn Japanese, and I actually liked the older version more when it came to memorizing hiragana and katakana because there were submitted ways to differentiate similar characters/strokes. This current version I only use free stuff, but I wish ya’ll could make when you end a review, if you get a vocab wrong, please have the word in the list either in furigana or romanji. It’s annoying just to show kanji because in Japanese many kanji have different sounds, and it’s irritating just to go to different chapters and hunt down the list I want to find the word to correctly memorize it. Another thing, please make the difficult mark be able to disappear in the free version. It’s annoying when I get one word wrong, it marks it difficult, and then it won’t leave no matter how many times afterwards I get it right. As far as course goes, its good, but it doesn’t always review old vocab, so unless you’re actively trying to speak or write/read, its easy to casually forget. Another thing is occasionally it will mark a correct answer wrong, like my answer and the “right” answer are literally the same so it’s aggravating when its saying its wrong when its not.Version: 3.2.12

10 x Better Than Duo LingoI have been studying Russian for over 3 years and tried lots of different apps and websites. This app is the most advanced, interactive and useful for learning a second language. The video is locals speaking in their native tongue is so valuable for learning the language and such a great idea. Awesome app.. I’d give 10 stars if it was available. Thank you!.Version: 2021.8.9

Less gamified than Duolingo, but possibly better for itOnly just started, and also using duo lingo, but head to head it seems memrise is more german specific - the literal translations of common phrases is really helpful, and I like the videos of people saying things, rather than just the audio. I’m glad to have both as it’s good to have variety as I progress..Version: 2.3.60

Brilliant little appReally pleased I downloaded this app. Total beginner at Italian. The short exercises teaching you so many words each time, mixing in words you’ve learnt earlier & the mixed way of learning them-sound, choice, typed etc is quite inspired; really helps you learn. You can go over them as many times as you wish without being forced to move on which is great. The side exercises like phrases are good. The “spaceship” look of the app is sweet & adds a bit of fun. Yes there’s adds asking if you want to pay for additional features, but even the options for turning them down are funny quips. Would you want to invest?Yes, maybe, if you get a lot out of the app by the end because I think it’s quite a well thought out app. Well done!.Version: 2.3.0

I learnt 3 different languages! This app is total amazement, I don't understand how it is able to make us learn so much in so little time. Witching 4 months I had become decent in English pretty much fluent I had also become fluent in Indonesian and am learning French (the first two I did in computer French is solely on app and within 4 days I am close enough at making basic greetings and similarly things).Version: 2.3.0

Excellent immersive way to learn colloquial languageIt’s heavily slanted towards a younger age group with lots of "partying" vocabulary. The tik tok, instagram style immersion videos are a great way to immerse yourself in the language you’re learning and go on to learn any words or phrases you found difficult. The way the “ learn” section is divided into scenarios means you can jump to specific vocabulary you think you’ll need. The Ai chats and “missions” are very well done and useful too. I’m presently concentrating on Spanish and this app has really filled in some of the gaps that other apps have when it comes to the kind of Spanish spoken in the real world. All in all it’s great value..Version: 2023.9.15

It’s a nice appI’m actually reading hiragana from 15 minutes using the app. It loses a star because rather than have a seamless transition to all of the free items it freezes with the pay to play and tells you you can’t go forward. Playing around with a few buttons got me to a page where I could move forward, thankfully. They don’t give you the information you need regarding what you CAN use so you are left floundering a bit. Being able to move forward and learn more in a day is useful. I’ll just have to wait and see if they have a revise what you’ve learned function. After all it wouldn’t do any good to learn a lot on Monday and forget it all by Friday..Version: 2.3.27

Worth the moneyIf you are serious about learning a language (I'm learning Mandarin Chinese) then this is totally worth the yearly subscription..Version: 2.2.35

Mui Bien - graciousThis is an awesome app!!!! Maui easy to learn Spanish in a quick and easy to understand way that is very fun ! I love the videos of the native speakers ( so cute to see them speaking in their native language and having a big smile on their faces! ) I been really wanting to learn Spanish and tried using Rosetta Stone, but it is soooo expensive and being a full time college student I couldn't afford it. To have this app available right on my phone it is so cool to be able to work on a few words as I get time throughout the day! I purchased the PRO version to have all the available extras and it was mui worth it !! I really really loved the section where it has me practice typing words and then sentences in Spanish ! Favorite and most helpful app I have EVER purchased ! When I graduate I am so excited that I will now be able to speak to my Spanish clients in their own language - maybe not quite fluent but understandable to communicate and I am mui confident that I will be fluent in a mui short time ! Thank you so much for such an enjoyable and fun way to learn a skill that will be so helpful to me DAILY as I work to help those in my community as a social worker ! Gracious!.Version: 2.3.2

Love itI just got this app and paid for it and I'm learning Russian. I know for some reason I picked a hard one. It is fun and good and easy to learn with the lessons. I do find though what would help would be if it would also come up saying the words with the English alphabet too like Google translate to help with pronunciations more as sometimes I find it hard to understand how to say what they're saying. And if I could go back on words and hear them again without going through difficult words. I find myself forgetting them the next day and it would be helpful to just go back to each word or phrase and listen and see it in English. To me this would really help and I hope can be done. It would make the app 5 star instead of 4..Version: 2022.10.11

Would be 5 stars but...During the lessons the correct answer is almost always the first choice out of multiple. In my case I am learning Japanese, so this could be different per language. I don’t feel I am really learning more so than just remembering to hit the first button. Other than that, it’s pretty helpful to my studies and pronunciation..Version: 3.0.13

Amazing but room for an improvementThis app is hands down the best app ever! It's gives you a option to create a memo for a certain word, lets you hear locals saying the word and much more! What I would like to be implemented into the app is a grammar course for the language. As you know only some courses offer grammar bot chats, but I was wondering if you could add a grammar course. Like where does certain things go? Irregular words, past and present and future tenses. The reason why I am asking is because while some languages follow the SVO agreement (Subject + Verb + Object) The language I'm learning, and others, don't. I'm learning Korean and due to its SOV and its language is built on social status, they're a lot of grammar things I personally don't know. I would be a big help if you did what I suggested! Also can you please improve the pronunciation stages? This is because I'm also learning mandarin and since it has tones it's very hard to pronounce it! I hope you can do this as well! To conclude this review and suggestions, its very well programmed app with a lot of amazing features. These suggestions will also help the app wildly as well. This app is more of a vocabulary app, I don't know if they did this one purpose, however this is perfect for me!.Version: 2.3.57

Love it!This is genuinely one of my favourite apps. It teaches full sentences by teaching you fragments of phrases until you can eventually make full sentences. I find it better for conversational learning than duolingo and i find I’m learning much quicker than with other apps. Very beginner-friendly. Big slay 😁.Version: 2024.1.8

Good learning aidI’m down to the last couple of hundred of the 5000-odd words Memrise says you need in order to cover 86% of the German language. It’s been really good as a motivator: the points challenge encourages you to do a certain amount each day, and it’s fun to get competitive on the leaderboards as well. I was learning really quickly for a while; now I’m having to consolidate somewhat, as I find that some of those words had not quite gone into my long-term memory as firmly as I’d thought. Their grammatical approach is rigorous: I am particularly impressed with the thorough treatment of nouns with their plurals and irregular verbs with their past tenses. I do have a couple of criticisms. The main premise of choosing a “mem” — a graphic or written aide-memoire for each word you feel you need help to remember — does not work particularly well for me, but I think that is down to individual ways of learning. There are the occasional words or phrases that my German friends say they’ve never heard of. When you’re revising you might be asked for the second, third or fourth version of a word that can be translated several ways: how you are supposed to remember which one they’ve designated thus is a mystery. They should allow any of the alternatives to be marked as correct..Version: 2.3.50

New UI ruins the appWhen I got this app over a year ago, it was great. Videos are excellent, the UI was lovely, I had so much control. I loved that I could choose to do vocab when I wanted. I could go through all the words I need to brush up on before diving into something else, on my terms. The new UI has changed this. Now I can't just do vocab until I've reviewed all my words. I can do one or two vocab reviews of 10 words before the vocab section decides for me that it is time to learn more new things. I am trying to review what I have already learned before learning new things, why does the app have to force me to continue my last scenario? It's been so long since I've used the app, I need to review before I go into new scenarios and just fail every question. I have over 100 words left to review and I have to keep manually crashing the app in order to allow me to actually just. Do. Vocab. Please change your UI so that I can just review my vocab until I decide I am done. I left duolingo specifically because they were doing this to me. I was no longer able to choose what I learned and when, duolingo chose for me, and if I happened to take a break and forget some things, then I have to wait until duolingo decides I am allowed to review stuff. That is incredibly frustrating! If memrise follows the same route and continues to cut me off from finishing my vocab, I will be cancelling my subscription and finding a new app that actually lets me choose..Version: 2024.1.8

MemriseThis app makes learning Italian (my voice out of many offered) a joy! The design of this logarithm truly aligns with the ability to learn a language on the run. I found myself accessing the app in the brief minutes I had between other chores or things to do and learning in these brief bursts covers a surprising amount of ‘work’. At the end of the day, reviewing the vocabulary I’d covered was surprising to say the least. I not only remembered the words and their meanings but I had a real sense of achievement. I’m so keen now to graduate on to more complex material which will allow me to ‘practise’ on my friends and knock their socks off with my rapid adaptation to all things (conversationally) Italian! If you want to have fun and surprise yourself with your ability to excel in the one about learning a second (or third) language, subscribe to this app, with a vision of yourself in 6 months time, sitting in an Italian cafe ordering a meal in fluent Italiano! Don’t delay - take action today..Version: 2.4.3

The bestI’ve tried quite a few language learning apps. For me Memrise is by far the best. There is a good variety of activities, plenty of repetition and relevant vocabulary. Grammar is clearly explained. I love the learning with locals and the speed review. There are many different voices and lots of pronunciation practice. Just one thing that I’d like to see - bigger writing on some of the pages. By comparison Babbel is a bit boring and Busuu does not give enough repetition because the review feature doesn’t work well. Duolingo has many useless phrases and does not teach grammar. Mondly is full of mistakes. Rosetta Stone is too expensive. In my Italian class I now find that words and phrases from Memrise are popping into my head as needed..Version: 2.3.59

Top starsBeen on this app for 3 years and I absolutely love it! I’m a teacher so it’s so good to learn different languages, the interaction on this app to learn is brill I love how it’s different, it’s much harder to look for courses on the app and would be amazing to not have to go on the website to look for more courses but tbh it’s not that much of a big deal because it’s a really good app! I love it and it’s genuinely the best app for me to learn anything.. my favourite course is Dothraki 🙃 thank you and top marks guys!! I love the different games and activities, it makes it a lot easier to learn. I love the way I don't get instantly bored n just delete the app.. if you want to learn a new language this is the really best app if you do find it difficult to learn new languages. I love it!! Thank you!!!.Version: 3.1.39

Great concept! You will never learn to speak a language fluently from an app, and this app is no exception. However, as a learning resource, I find Memrise to be more useful than other apps because you get to see real and different people using the words and phrases you are learning. I definitely feel a lot more confident in my pronunciation skills than I have with other apps. I also really like the tiktok/reels style videos featuring the phrases you are learning..Version: 2021.7.12

HelpIt’s like doing a big weez you know, sometime dat poo just not gonna try help ya.Version: 2.3.45

The best one - I've tried other popular onesThe best. Engages over time. Not repetitive and no too slow like other popular apps. I won't name the other apps like the popular ones staring with D and the other starting with D, but Memrise is the best by far. It's been months now, slowly improving in two three different languages. It strengthens learning in every way, strengthens your weak areas, and let's you get new words without endless focus on the same old words.Version: 3.2.1

Just needs one more featureI have been enjoying this app for about 2 years now. So far it has been very useful for my language learning process. I’ve gather about 2.5 million points in french, italian and chinese. The only problem I have with the app is the fact that I can’t do tests to skip ahead some of the stuff that I already know well. I understand that it is important to practice the same thing over and over until they are planted deep into the long term memory. But since most people use multiple sources to learn languages, it’s common to learn many words and phrases outside of Memrise. And when you come back to Memrise to learn new words, you have to go over the words you already know very well over and over because the app assumes that you don’t know them. It’s for the app to suggest us to review the words we learned already as it helps strengthen the memory. But when you have to repeat the words you already know over and over just to get them to bloom as full flowers, it can get really boring. So it would be great if the app could allow us to be tested to skip the planting the seed and growing the word flowers from scratch but still maintain the watering of the flowers you already have grown..Version: 2.3.54

Choose this oneI have downloaded and tried all the Spanish apps and this one is by far the best. There are several things I like about it: 1) It has lots of repetition and review of previous lessons, which is really what you need to learn a language. I have taken a Spanish class and used apps and they want to move you along so fast that you forget what you learned before. 2) The quality of the videos with local people is better and holds your attention more than any of the other apps, and gives you multiple different dialects to hear and the body language that goes along with it. This is probably the most natural way to learn other than actually being with people speaking Spanish. 3) They give you the basic meaning translation and the literal translation which I really appreciate. Even Spanish textbooks will not do this which I find frustrating. They want you to memorize the meaning without actually understanding the words you are saying. I feel if you want to understand a language you need to know exactly what you are saying. Thank you! Nobody elae does this. 4) The subscription fee is reasonable, and they don’t constantly harass you. They give you a good sample before they ask you to subscribe. There are lots of other apps that charge more and are way less quality. I am really happy I found this one..Version: 2.3.57

Memrise!I’m learning three languages at the moment (French, German and Russian) and Memrise has been the perfect tool to help me do so! It is super easy to use and buying the subscription is really worth it. You can get a 7 day free trial before spending the money and find you may not like it. Unlike other apps, you can learn quite a lot without having to pay to advance into higher levels/courses etc. You have the ability to browse through multiple courses for many languages with ease and I have found that I am learning at a quicker pace than using any other language-learning app! Totally worth it and would 100% recommend!.Version: 2.3.48

AwesomeLove this app ! I'm learning so fast ! Thank you (=.Version: 2.2.35

A pretty effective toolI have been using memrise in conjunction with Duolingo and a book set to learn Russian for a bit now. I’d totally give 5 stars, but there are a few issues, especially with the Russian course, that i feel need addressing. First of all, the way you learn the alphabet is a bit strange. I love how it gives you the character and the pronunciation, but sometimes in review, it gives you the sound of the letter and a few options in the English alphabet. For example, if there was a д sound, it would often just give me the choice of d instead of the character. This is a bit annoying since it doesn’t help me learn the alphabet, but rather makes me learn our alphabet, which I don’t really need reviewing on. I think it should at least incorporate the character, like show it alongside the sound button, or just have the character as an option. The app also doesn’t tel you what the characters are called, which is bad because if you only had the app, you wouldn’t be able to say what the character was, just the sound. Other than those alphabet learning issues, Memrise has definitely helped me with Russian, and I will definitely keep using it! Пака!.Version: 2.3.27

Removing learning EnglishI don't know why they removed learning English, my first language is not supported so they have to put something that I can learn English from English. This was my favorite app, I will miss it..Version: 2024.2.3

Great for casual learnersSo this app won’t make you fluent overnight, but it is an awesome, free and easy to use app that’ll help you towards casual knowledge of an impressive range of different languages! Also, the notifications are a lot less aggressive than duolingo 😂 Basically, this app does exactly what it says, and although it does have in-app purchases, they’re totally optional, so you really can use this app to learn languages for free!.Version: 2.3.57

AWESOME app, but where are the chatbots?I use memrise to learn additional things and to secure my knowledge, and it is great so far. Since I study German at school, I have no problem with understanding the grammar. However, some of my friends are having some trouble with the grammar. I would recommend getting the pro, because you can access many things such at speed review, learning offline, listening with locals. But even if you don’t get the pro that is still fine, because you still can learn a lot. I used it for 1 month without the pro, and I found it so fun and useful that I got the pro. I AM OBSESSED AND IN LOVE WITH THIS APP! WWW: speed review (my personal favorite, good for recap by storing it into long term memory, good for when you don’t have a lot of time), improves pronunciation (you get to listen to locals pronouncing the word or phrase) AWESOME APP IN GENERAL! EBI: 1) The explore picture section needs improvements, sometimes it gets wrong. 2) My streaks don’t save when I use offline learning, which is quite sad. 3) Where are the chatbots? I can’t seem to find them. NEED HELP!.Version: 2.3.49

LOVE ITTruthfully, I saw this app mentioned on a tik tok & have been extremely pleased with it ! I have tried other apps & I can’t believe it took me so long before I had even heard of this app.. in the small amount of time I’ve been using it I have improved dramatically, my pronunciation especially ! Even more so because of the ‘local’ videos loaded to the app where I can hear it pronounced as it would be when speaking in a conversation. & then the generated audio where I can break down the words & hear each letter helps. The extra pronunciation, speed reviews etc activities make it even better ! A happy subscriber, one app actually worth the small fee 😊.Version: 3.1.38

AwesomeI just got the app and I love it all ready. Before I had the app Duolingo but that didn't help because I have a bad memory. I also try the app Tiny Cards but it's all about flash cards but that didn't help either. This app is the best I can get and pretty cool. For being a sixth grader we don't learn Spanish or any other different language so this is an opportunity for me to learn knew languages before I go to high school..Version: 2.2.35

Where is the old memriseI’ve had alotof fun learning French with memrise and I love it more than Duolingo. I’m just wondering what happened to the old memrise where you could learn all things with the same methods. I was learning capital cities, astrology , maths, biology. I can’t find another app like it. Please tell me that will come back at one stage. I would pay to be able to have access to such lessons again..Version: 3.0.5

Mem riseOMG a this app is amazing this is so fun and I just downloaded it and I am already addicted to it!!! Totally recommended to download!!!!! 😆😁🤪.Version: 2022.1.17

Use of it: Does all day count???Personally, with this pandemic things have been quite rough in my education however I have unbelievably been able to sustain my knack for: History, Chemistry, Agricultural Studies etc... And when I found my french was failing and I was due to start German I got rather anxious considering the fact that all the exams were coming up it put me in quite an unfortunate situation as I had forgotten all my French vocabulary. So I quickly searched for anything that could help me redeem myself I found Memrise and was blown away with the course therefore practicing everyday and eventually gaining all my French (making a bit of time to slip in some German yup I loved being top of my class in everything)!!! Thank You, Memrise.Version: 2021.8.16

Learning to impress the missusBeen doing this for a bit over a month now. I’m taking it pretty slow and I’m learning at a pretty average pace. However even so I never expected to have made it as far as I did. I started learning to make the missus happy, she loves everything French, and is borderline fluent herself. She told me after even 1 week that it seemed I’d been learning it for a while. Can’t recommend the app enough. Really puts you into and makes sure you learn the language as well as colloquial pronunciation and all such. Brilliant!.Version: 3.1.42

Great app! Having fun learning JapaneseBetter than Duolingo 😁.Version: 2.2.35

Almost perfectI would love to see a ‘report problem’ button, so users can alert the developers to missing audio, etc Listening exercises should utilise the keyboard, rather than a selection of options, because it can be easy to 'deduce' the correct option, negating the effect. The 'completion' sound is a rather eye piercing bell, not a huge problem, but not particularly pleasant either. Other than that I absolutely love this app! It has successfully replaced Duolingo (after the health system introduction) and I'm not going back!.Version: 2.3.47

Love the Camera Dictionary!Feels like playing a video game with magical encyclopaedia!.Version: 2.3.5

New Davourite AppI just downloaded and already very impressed. Would love to have MemBot Beta be a stand alone app / be able to converse with the AI along with all it’s corrections/suggestions without the conversational prompts..Version: 2024.1.8

I’ve tried them all and this is the best!I’ve done pimsleur, micheal Thomas, rocket German, fluent forever and duo lingo. And I would say this is the most comprehensive language assistance out there. Short of actually going to a class or the country in question..Version: 2021.11.24

SatisfiedThere is no doubt that Memrise is the best language learning app. You guys can try it..Version: 3.1.34
