Guitar Tuner - Ukulele & Bass for Negative User Reviews

Not so freeThey now stick you with $8/week subscription. Who in their right mind would pay over $400 a year to tune a guitar? Any professional would certainly have something better than this app. They way out of it? There is the world's smallest x in the upper left corner that blends in with the background. Looks closely and you'll find it. Hit that and you can bypass the subscription page. I'll be looking elsewhere for an app that doesn't so blatantly try to rip me off (even though I know how to get around it)..Version: 4.23

Are you freaking kidding me?I have used this app for years. It was a pretty good app. I liked that it gave me such precise feedback and allowed me fine-tune so effectively. I put up with an ad, it let me use its basic features for free, it was a good symbiotic relationship. If they’d offered it as-free for a few bucks, I’d have gladly paid it. If they’d updated it in a way that extorted a few bucks from me, I’d have grumpily paid it and continued to enjoy using the app. Instead, they issue an innocuous “update” that completely locks it away unless you sign up for an $8/wk subscription? Not $8—$8 per week. Are you freaking kidding me? It went from free, to $416 a year? What kind of blithering nitwit would pay that, for any app? I am stupefied at the sheer audacity. Fine, I’ll go pay another developer a reasonable, or even an exorbitant price, for their tuner app. I cannot even process the hubris required to pull this stunt..Version: 4.17.0

Apple needs to ban these scam apps!My mother, accidentally subscribed to this app and I was shocked to learn that she was committed to paying $10.49 per week (over $500 per year) for this app! Even the 1000x more sophisticated Adobe Creative Suite subscription cost less! I wonder how many people are being scammed. Because there is no justification for this high fee. The developer’s response seems to miss the most important point that this app’s subscription price is absolutely absurd. $500 per year? Seriously?.Version: 4.9.0

Guitar TunerOne of those apps which catch you out and grab your cash, without warning ... what is on offer is no way worth 7 quid a week. What is irritating is that there doesn't appear to be a means of accessing account or setup in order to stop payment which is totally unacceptable..Version: 4.1.0

$10.49 a week!? No thanksI just realized this app subscription has been charging me $1O.49 PER WEEK! Wow! No thank you..Version: 4.18.0

Fraudulent failureIt tricks you into signing up for a monthly payment (for a *tuner*!) when you think you are getting a free version. It looks like two different buttons but it’s not. It’s only free for a week. Then it bills iTunes. I only figured it out because I paid extra attention and was suspicious. It’s kind of a pain to cancel the iTunes subscription, you have to google it. Of course, that’s Apple’s fault. (The most non-obvious thing is clicking ON your actual Apple ID in Settings.) Best part is they fill the screen that comes up when you finally find the Mange Subscriptions window with redundant choices in order to push the cancel button below the fold and hide it. It’s down there. If this is how this company makes money, stay far away..Version: 3.2

PaywallThe app used to be a great free to use app with many useful features for the free version, I even purchased a subscription at one point or another but this is outright ridiculous! I open up the app to tune my 12 string and immediately promoted with an unclosable paywall that doesn’t let you do anything up pay or restore a subscription. No longer can you access the free to use features and instead are locked behind a paywall..Version: 4.18.0

Not for violin! It says it’s for violin but doesn’t contain the option to choose violin to tune. Currently trying to work out how to unsubscribe before getting charged a rediculous fee of $12 per week!!!.Version: 4.0.3

Forced SubscriptionReally enjoyed the app until it randomly forced me to sign up. The app is labelled free but it is not! You can’t use any of the features without a subscription. I understand the developers need to make money but forcing a user to pay for a free app is confusing and false advertising. I honestly would pay for the app if it wasn’t done in such a sly manner. The app is perfectly fine but the selling tactics should be reconsidered..Version: 4.7.0

OkOk.Version: 4.16.0

Forces SubscriptionThe app forces you to trial for a subscription. The title of the app says Guitar AND Violin tuner but there only is an inaccurate chromatic tuner and no specialised Violin tuner..Version: 3.1.4

Being charged to use ?I loved using this app for tuning my guitar. It worked perfectly, had no glitches or general problems with the app, until Recently I must pay in order to use the very same app there is no way of getting past the screen that says I must pay for “unlimited access” I have since deleted it due to this flaw.Version: 4.5.0

Removed free versionWouldn’t let me use the app unless I payed for the full app or use a trail subscription in which I would be bill at the end of the three days if it renewed.Version: 4.18.0

SadBefore I was able to use this app without having to pay subscriptions but I think they made an update and you have to pay now. It was really great before now I’m just disappointed 😔.Version: 4.18.0

DO NOT PURCHASESCAM!!!! After the 7 day free trial it will automatically charge you an outrageous price which unfortunately I did not realise until 3 months after. This app has cost me over $100 in fees for an app that I used ONCE and deleted after first use. even after deleting the app it will continue to ‘subscribe’ you and charge you fees. AVOID!!!!!! SCAM..Version: 3.2

No violin just for guitar and ukulele onlyNo violin just for guitar and ukulele only.Version: 2.5.3

Subscription!?! £6.99 a week!Subscription of £6.99 a WEEK!! Are you mad? It was a lovely app, tuned my uke well and I wouldn’t have minded ads or paying a one-off amount for it but this change means instant uninstall for me..Version: 3.1.4

Going back to clip-on tunersI used this app to tune my ukulele for over 2 years and loved it. It was free! Now... it’s asking me to pay $10 a WEEK? Seriously... who pay’s more than $500 a year to tune their guitars/uke? It’s a joke! If all the tuning apps does this, everyone will go back to the good old real tuner that are $20 on Amazon!.Version: 4.18.0

AVOID !Update FORCES users to get the pay for version - which in miniscule type along the bottom of the screen says after the first week you will be charged for automatically at the most outrageously expensive cost I’ve ever seen in an app. A truely disgusting strategy to make money from users who have already installed the app, before they realise what’s been done and cancel their account and delete the app..Version: 3.1

Would put no stars if I could!!Beware when downloading, it appears free when you initially download, however with no warning I was stung with 2 x £6.99 weekly subscription fees, even tho I had not signed up to anything and had deleted the app within a week of having it!! No idea why they took two at once but did so without pre warning or invoice. £6.99 per week is ridiculous even when you are expecting a charge but an absolute con when you haven’t specifically agreed to a subscription. Not a fan!!.Version: 3.1.5

Was good, now extortionate! Avoid!!!I’ve enjoyed this app previously but am really disgusted that the upgrade now forces you take out subscription at $40 per month!! Deleting the app today which is a shame but there are others out there that function just as well and don’t break the bank..Version: 3.2

UnhappyI have been trying to unsubscribe and can’t. The trial finishes with an auto renew weekly charge with no option to cancel in the apple subscription management. I have just emailed support and expect a refund. Please be sure you are prepared for the same, I don’t understand why apple allow apps on their store with no unsubscribe facility..Version: 3.2

Buyer bewareWhile the free app is tolerable, the flaw is in the fine print. If you aren't incredibly careful, you'll end up auto-subscribing to this without otherwise giving consent. This is likely by design as I was approximately $40 deep in this before I realized what was going on...easy cash for the developer. If you do not know you've auto-subscribed, you have no reason to be on the look-out for the additional charge..Version: 4.10.0

Waste of money and internet$12 a week for this app when there are free alternatives? What a rip off, especially when it used to be free..Version: 3.2

Money PhobiaThe developer are interested only on gaining money. Dont download this as they wont even let you try to use the app a single second without making the confirmation of payment after 14 days or whatever they say. Save yourself..Version: 3.2

Rip offI got this app a while ago. There was no subscription needed. Now I can’t access the app without it saying that there’s a subscription needed..Version: 4.17.0

Impossible to useThe app makes it impossible to use without either signing up for the free trial (in hopes you forget and they can start charging $8 A WEEK) or signing up without the free trial immediately. I understand app developers need to make money. But most tuner apps do this by locking alternate tunings, chromatic tuners, etc behind a paywall. Not the entire app. If that’s the case the app shouldn’t be ‘free’ with in app purchases because it’s literally unusable without doing the trial or paying the weekly subscription immediately. What a scam. This used to be my go to tuner app..Version: 4.18.0

FrustratingIf I could give you less then a star I would, this app hasn’t changed they make you click premium to use the app and then you have to go through the whole mess of unsubscribing to them and they should just have the option in the app to cancel it and its completely ridiculous. I won’t be using this app till one of you people get your act together and stop scamming people. Also ! They make you pay for things and they don’t tell you it cost anything you’ll just get a thing from Apple saying you didn’t pay them yet ... well excuse me I thought the app was free but I guess you can’t use anything in the app without paying absolutely ridiculous. Don’t buy the app because it’s free it ends up costing more then just buying one of the other apps that cost something. Sorry guys but you screwed up on this one ....Version: 4.1.1

Started charging me out of nowhere!Noticed strange weekly charges on my credit card! Found it is was coming from this app! I haven’t opened it in months. How do you unsubscribe?! Seems to be happening a lot on here..Version: 4.16.0

Ridiculous. I have been using this app for years and I am beyond disappointedI have literally been using this app for YEARS and opened it the other day to see it is now completely locked behind a paywall of $8 PER WEEK??? You have got to be kidding me! Years ago this app allowed you to tune your guitar to so many different presets — free! Then they locked everything except standard tuning which I guess I can understand. THEN came the first paywall. You were asked to subscribe but you could click a little x in the corner to get off that screen and tune the guitar to the standard tuning. Now I open the app today and notice the x is gone. The app is UNUASBLE. I am sorry but literally no one will pay $8/WEEK to tune their guitar! I’m just going to delete this app and download a better one. I am so disappointed. I understand developers need to make money but could you not just put ads on the app? Pretty sad. I’m happy to watch a 30 sec ad to tune my guitar but NO ONE will pay $8 per week for a 1 minute tuning job. I will not be using this app ever again unless things go back to how they used to be. :-(.Version: 4.18.0

Was good, lost a userKeeps saying I cant connect to Itunes, was free now you have to pay. Very poor for the long term users. Not worth the money when I can buy a tuner from the store for half the money.Version: 3.0.1

DisappointedI was unable to even try the tuning experience before being forced into an expensive subscription service..Version: 4.18.0

Obnoxious Rating RequestsSeems to work okay, but the devs are so desperate for ratings it is obnoxious. Here. Have your rating and leave me alone..Version: 4.12.0

What a jokeI’ve been using this app for years and today I got a notification that I need to update because it’s no longer compatible with my phone’s iOS. I update and reload the app and now it’s asking me to pay a subscription fee?? Moreover, it now only has the standard tunings included and I have to watch a 30 second add just to tune in Drop D??? What an absolute disappointment from a convenient app that I loved. If you really wanted money so badly, why not just sell the app for a one time $5 fee? This greedy ad and premium subscription model that’s dominating the app store is so disgusting. Deleting the app. You guys should seriously be ashamed..Version: 4.22

Read reviews firstWish I would have read the reviews first. I was looking for a quick up to tune up a guitar. It looked free. It’s not. I wasn’t about to set up a subscription that they hope I forget to cancel to be able to use the app. I don’t mind paying someone for their work. But the way you’re trying to trick people is slimy. I backed out and downloaded a different app that let me tune my guitar up quickly. It’s a good app. I wouldn’t have found it without your help. Thanks for making me look a little harder. And developer, don’t worry about replying the same reply you’ve given to others. Not interested. I’ve moved on. Btw, first review I’ve ever written. Congratulations..Version: 4.18.0

Well snapped a string cause it couldn’t decide what more it wasTrying to tune kept jumping note couldn’t decide what string it was, it was fine before last update.Version: 3.3

Weekly Subscription?? Way overpriced!!I have had this app for quite some time and it’s been great. I open it today and it now wants $7.99 a week for a subscription!! Why would I pay that every week when I could just go buy a tuner for $20. That’s a ridiculous price when there are plenty of other tuner apps out there. Do the math at 52 weeks a year and that’s over $400!!! Why would anyone pay that?? I can buy an amp with a built in tuner for that price and keep it for years. Good app when it was free, but not paying $400 a year for a tuner..Version: 3.2

Not freeSubscription is required for use. It’s not free which is incredibly annoying. I don’t want another subscription. Have a one time payment..Version: 4.22

Scammers!!!$10.49 weekly!! And they make sure that you can’t unsubscribe! From a useless app. Don’t do the free trial!!!.Version: 4.12.0

😂I can understand a one-time payment of $10 for a guitar tuner but LOL $10.49 billed weekly LOL. Yeah ok sure free to download the AD for the app LOL. Who took something amazing and broke it with bad math..Version: 4.18.0

A stupid trick...When we read “GET”, we think it’s free. Many tuner apps are free. Then, when have downloaded it we discover that what we “GET” is a subscription not free. Of course the subscription is mention in the Apple store, but we are not told that without it we can’t either try it. What we are asked to try is the subscription. Sorry, that was a trick I didn’t like. I deleted your app and will never know why you say it’s the best. I have bought many tuners, apps and not apps that you put on your guitar or in front of it etc. It was always very simple and clear. Other apps let you choose between free light version with tons of apps and a paying full version without adds. When we like the free app, we always buy the full version. That subscription system looks like more of a money trap. Good luck!.Version: 3.1.4

Not good tuningThe standard tuner messed up my guitar and as a beginner this is quite frustrating.Version: 4.11.0

Changed to subscription based 👎This used to be my favorite tuner. Easy to use and accurate. I had installed on my previous phone and it still works there but I’ve upgraded to iPhone 12 and now when installing the app it wants me to pay $8 a month to use the app. That’s horrible, considering I will probably only tune my guitar once in a blue. At this point, it makes more sense to go to the guitar store and buy me a tuner there. One time payment beats a monthly subscription lol.Version: 4.18.0

Extremely disappointedI have used this app for the past two years and I loved it. I get on it after the update and now I have to pay to get tunings. This is a terrible mistake by you guys because I was very impressed with how well it turned my guitars but you will no longer have my service. You guys have just lost a loyal customer due to something as stupid as making people pay this much for things that used to be free..Version: 3.2

Never get this appThere is no option to cancel the subscription and then they take 2 weeks worth of subscriptions out of your account (£6.99x2) I want a refund as soon as possible. And I wasn’t consulted before the take your hard earned money out..Version: 4.7.1

Didn’t realise how expensive it isI downloaded the wrong version and meant to download the limited version. But the cost is incredible and now I am signed up for 12 months. Good app but the price is ridiculous.Version: 4.1.2

RuinedUsed to be an excellent free app. Now you have to pay ongoing fees for everything but the most basic features. Ruined..Version: 3.1

Billed twice a monthFound that not only had I deleted this app bud had for four month been charged twice a month subscription! Amount charged through the months changed Shocking Have found better app since.Version: 4.4.0

Great app but just stopped working!I love this app and it has proved very useful during the pandemic as I could no longer tune my young students’ guitars before lessons. I put my iPad with Guitar Tuner open in front of them and they were able to tune their own guitars (with guidance) However, a couple of weeks ago the app just stopped working. It won’t open. The Gismart page comes up, hangs around for ages and then the app crashes! Very frustrating! I’ve updated regularly so I don’t understand it..Version: 4.20

I mean..This is one of the best tuners I’ve downloaded, because it’s easy to use and it wasn’t that complicated, but ever since the pop up (I call it a pop up because it’s like a pop up ad) came i wasn’t able to use the tuner what so ever. Last time there was a pop up like this, I was still able to use the tuner but this time it was not possible unless you subscribe. I know that subscribing is free and all but my phone doesn’t allow in app purchases, and I would need permission. So I’m sure there are people like me who can’t subscribe even though it’s free, so if there is a way to use the tuner without subscribing that would be very helpful..Version: 4.18.0

Add an X to the subscription thing!Uhm? As soon as I open this app am faced with something to do with a subscription. There’s no X on the screen to get rid of it and you can’t tap it off. I don’t want to buy unlimited access for a tuning app this is ridiculous. Add an X to the screen because it’s annoying as hell..Version: 3.3

Arnaque10$ WEEKLY to tune a guitar?!?!.Version: 4.18.0

If you can't even open the app without a subscription just make the app cost moneySimple as that.Version: 3.2

DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!!I subscribed for the free trial and once I realised I would be charged $12 PER WEEK, I deleted the app. I have since been charged for the past three weeks despite no longer having access to the app!! Had to go through Apple ID to completely delete the subscription. Nasty trick for what was once a good app. Unimpressed..Version: 3.2

DisappointedHave used this app for last few years and as originally was for free very handy when have forgotten my tuner, now asking for ridiculous $13.99/week, deleting app & will find another free one.Version: 4.18.0

DisappointedI used to use this app all the time and it was really great. I used the free version to tune my ukulele and it worked very well. Usually when you open the app it asks you if you want subscribe to the premium version which costs money, but up until now it has always given me the option to continue with the free version. Now when I open the app it won’t let me continue unless I sign up for a 3 day free trial. I don’t want a free trial, I don’t want to use the additional features, I just want to use the basic free version of this app but now you can’t use the app unless you give it permission to charge you money. It feels like such a scam and I’m very disappointed that I will have to switch to a different app. I wish this app would either give you the option to continue for free without the free trial that you would have to later unsubscribe from or just advertise that you have to pay to use this app..Version: 4.18.0

Have to sign up to try it 🙄No idea if it’s any good because you have to commit yourself to it financially in order to try it out. Fine if you can remember to cancel the ‘free trial’ after the week period but iTunes don’t make that particularly straightforward and it’s all too easy to find yourself paying for an app monthly without wanting to. Just let us try the app! If it’s good we will pay for it! Works better to have ads and then remove them than a free trial that can end up being a huge hassle.Version: 4.12.0

I got tricked.I downloaded this app one night. Figured it’s free so whatever, I don’t play guitar at all but I have one and wanted to mess around with it. I signed up for what I thought was a weekly trial, I knew I would just unsubscribe soon anyways. I thought I did just that and never thought about it again. Until today, nearly 7 months later. I was just checking my iTunes payment history, even though I never purchase apps or do in app purchases. And what is this? I HAVE BEEN GETTING CHARGED WEEKLY FOR 7 MONTHS. Now I take responsibility for not watching my bank account closer or my iTunes charges closer, but seriously, make this more user friendly, if I download a free app, make it free. Make it clear what I’m getting or not getting. Make it clear if I’m paying, or not paying. Like this app hasn’t even been on my phone for seven months..Version: 4.8.0

Be warned!!!Beware of the opening screen after download... I’ve just opened the App after the last update. You’ll be presented with an info screen and a yellow button to click to the next screen. This repeats so you repeatedly click on the yellow button only to find the last click of the button is to subscribe at £7.49 per week. Fortunately I noticed before clicking again with Touch ID. Shame on you Gismart for this sneaky trick that has now shaken my trust in using your otherwise great tuning App. Update: After writing the above I’ve looked at other reviews and found a number that have found or fallen foul of this. I’ve now deleted the app, but again be warned, the app suggests that even deleting the app doesn’t cancel the subscription. So I’m now quite nervous about what I may have inadvertently clicked. Great shame, as I first downloaded this a couple of years ago and found it very useful for the very occasional times I’ve needed to tune a guitar..Version: 4.10.0

$12 PER WEEK????? What? The cost of this is insane. Many common instruments need to be “unlocked” - at some huge amount per individual week. 11 per week. Yes, per WEEK. For a tuner app. 50 per year - ongoing, year after year. That’s the price of a cheap learner guitar - and all you’re getting is a tuner. There’s cheap tuners out there - I thoroughly recommend getting one..Version: 3.1.4

DO NOT DOWNLOAD.A screen will pop up after you have opened the app and make it look like you’ve selected not having a trial to have a free basic version. It’s intentionally confusing. Plus even if it wasn’t $12 a week is way too much, you could buy an amazing real tuner for much less than even a few months subscription..Version: 4.21

Be careful....I have been using the app for about 6 months. Then one day I go to use it and it will not let me use it without signing up for a trial period and then a $7.99 monthly fee. I can appreciate that these people would like to make money. But I would rather they just say outright that they are going to start charging and I can either start paying or stop using it. Unethical business practices. I am speaking with iTunes on how to delete this app as it is still listed under my subscriptions on my phone. There are too many other tuner apps. Be careful..Version: 3.1.6

Don’t download!I downloaded the free version of this app, but as soon as you disable the ‘free trial’, you don’t even get a confirmation before you are charged £7.99. The developers are conning people that downloading this app, and I’m having a hard time getting my money back, so steer well clear!.Version: 4.28

UNFAIR pricing policy ripping people offGuy's have you really looked at the price of this one. It's nearly £400 per year! There's a reason that some of these apps are subscription based AND quote their prices weekly rather than monthly. You could buy yourself a new guitar every year with that money (admittedly not a top end one!) but the point is this is eyewateringly expensive for what you're getting. Why don't they just charge you a one off price for this - that would be more than fair but this is an unfair price and ripping people off by quoting the price weekly. Save your money and go elsewhere for a trumped up tuner! And before you reply thanking me for choosing your app I didn't, my son did and then I noticed what you were charging him and was so angry I wrote this review..Version: 4.18.0

What a shame, and the developer clearly doesn’t get whyBeen a minute since I picked up my guitar and ukulele. This was always my go-to tuner. The free version. The one you could click to avoid a trial by clicking the x in the top corner or whatever it was. Now you are forced to either use the free trial of death ($8/week after three days) or pick a new app, which I will be. If this app is making money, it is by scamming people who either do not realize there is a weekly fee, or didn’t remember to cancel their trial. No one would knowingly pay more than $400 a year on a guitar tuner app masquerading as a free service on the App Store, and Apple should honestly do the right thing and remove the service like they did other insane fee charging apps. What makes it worse, and the reason I’m bothering to write a review, is that the developer clearly either does not understand or care based on their responses to other reviews on the matter. We aren’t daft; we understand what a three day free trial means. We understand we can cancel it, but what is confusing is that you would purposefully neuter your app and then act completely ignorant as to why such an insane and immoral change as a forced premium-to-use model and sketchy free trial period/fee would upset years-long users..Version: 4.18.0

Ridiculous. Also I’m salty. This ridiculous, for lack of a clean word to use that truly shows how ticked I am, app refused to let me bypass their intro without subscribing to their premium “trial”. The “trial” automatically begins drawing money after it is over and is darn (again, lack of a word) near impossible to turn off. How do I know? My second plan after closing out the app and clicking back on it again (The intro only appeared again) was to sign up for their subscription and immediately cancel. The instructions say you can close it out through iTunes. Okay, 1. iTunes is an incredibly hard platform to manage, as anyone without a computer science degree who has spent five minutes trying to work the thing out will agree with. and 2. This is an APP. iTunes is for music! That’s why it had “Tunes” in the name! And lastly, I DON’T HAVE ANY MONEY TO PUT ON MY CARD TO EVEN SIGN UP FOR THE THING! I’M DOWNLOADING A FREE GUITAR TUNER APP, DO YOU THINK IM ROLLING IN DOUGH HERE? ALSO, THE PREMIUM FEATURE IS $8.00? Seriously, this app is ridiculous. Maybe if they got rid of this marketing scam at the beginning of the app I would be able to actually see the rest of it, including the actual tuner portion. DON’T BUY UNTIL THIS SCAM IS OVER..Version: 3.2

Excellent BUT far too expensiveExcellent app. Easy to use. Accurate tunings. Wide alternate tunings. Only drawback is the prohibitively expensive unlock price, which is literally 5X what it should be. I would have rated this app five stars if the price was reasonable. It is literally far cheaper to buy a hardware tuner than unlocking this app for a few months. Twelve months of subscription could buy a new guitar with a tuner onboard..Version: 3.3

Still goodBeen using this for a while still a good tuner.Version: 4.23

UnfairFor a while, this app used to be free for all and you had the option to subscribe if you wish but were never forced to. Now, you can’t continue the app without either starting the free trial or immediately subscribing. The devs say that you can start the free trial and just cancel when you’re finished but that isn’t fair at all. Why have only a limited time to use this app for free when it was much better when we could use it for free at all times with only a few limitations and some ads here and there? And also still have people who’d like to subscribe as well? This is also unfair to many beginners who would like to use this app and can’t pay. How disappointing I used to adore this app. Please give us the option to use this for free again devs I’m begging you!.Version: 4.18.0

Bye…It was the best tuner until it insists to charge you $10 a week, est $500/year for this OR you can’t even use a basic function. Wow!! I can pay $10 for one time purchase but weekly?! No thank you. I understand I could use it as a trial for 3 days, but then what about after that? We have to pay anyway to use the tunner and at the end of days we still pay $500/year for a guitar tuner! It’s even more expensive than buying a video editting program from Apple. Stop talking about 3 days trial because nobody is gonna tune their guitar in 3 days. If your team wants customers to keep supporting your business, stop being greedy! 1 star because I used to love this app so much until they change their marketing strategy..Version: 4.22

Appalling!!!!The only way this app can make money is by tricking you into paying the membership. No options to cancel the membership on the app so you have to contact support team directly. A sly attempt from the developer to get paid just by making it difficult to cancel the membership!.Version: 4.1.0

If my love is not enough. As I sat spamming all 5 strings (yes 5, the smallest one snapped the other month during a riff session of "puff the magic dragon", it was transcendent, but you had to be there) on my authentic Les Paul copy, singing with lethal enthusiasm such classics as "twinkle twinkle little star" and "happy birthday to you", I noticed that my remaining strings sounded a bit off, not much, but enough to pour myself another drink, sweep my musician hair out my watery blue eyes, so tortured yet filled with hope, and question why I chose this life of music...ing. I reached for my only friend, the only true ear that would turn green and tremble as I made the most beautiful music...noise...tone...sounds. Only to find that it now requires a subscription. I feel used, bated even. Like being in the arms of a beautiful woman that finally understood me, only to find my solace is not the heart fortifying understanding of my tormented soul that I believed it to be. Good bye...my favourite guitar tuning app...but...I cannot pay the price you require. If my undying devotion is not enough to appease the once a month usage, fiddling of your buttons to watch that needle tremble, then, alas, I cannot give you what you require. Rest assured, I will treasure your memory in the historic listing of my account, forever <fade out>.Version: 3.1.4

Pretty good, but needs improvingThere are several guitar tuning apps out there, this one seems to be the best, I like the look and feel of it, but there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the irritating sound notifications? This is a bug. Definitely needs ironing out. Also I don't want a subscription, can't I just pay a couple of quid to get rid of the ads? As others have said, the greeting screen where you're faced with a "pay to subscribe" with no clear X or "use free with ads" option isn't very user friendly. I'll continue using it, hopefully I won't find money disappearing from my bank at the end of the month!.Version: 4.10.0

Are you joking?10$ a week? Don’t waste your time in uploading this..Version: 4.18.0

$8 a week after free trial?? NO THANKS.Look, I get it. People that work hard to develop an awesome app deserve to get paid for their efforts. I’ve used this app since 2013, and honestly could have sworn I paid a one-time premium fee a long long time ago (maybe to remove ads??), but maybe I just have that confused with something else. I would HAPPILY pay a one-time fee comparable to the cost of, you know, an actual physical guitar tuner. I’d maybe even pay a little extra because of the convenience of always having a tuner handy on my phone. But $8 a WEEK?? Are you crazy??? If I had been paying that fee the entire time I’ve used this app, I would have spent nearly $3,000 just to tune my guitar at home myself. And to the developers - please don’t bother responding to my review with your “oh but you don’t have to pay because we’ve got this free trial” nonsense. What are we expected to do after the free trial? PAY $8 A WEEK or never use the app again. *rolls eyes*.Version: 4.18.0

Developer ruined a great appThis used to be a great app, one of my favorite music apps. Unfortunately, the developer recently added a subscription trial that is impossible to decline even if you only want to use the basic free version of the app. The only purpose I can see for this change is to take advantage of people who don’t understand that they have to cancel the trial or they will be billed $8 PER WEEK until they figure it out. I would be happy to pay a reasonable one-time fee for this app but nobody in their right mind is going to knowingly spend $400 per year for this. Absolutely dishonest..Version: 4.18.0

Tries to trick you into starting a subscriptionThe walkthrough at the beginning finishes with a big start button. You think it’s to start using the app? It’s to start a paid subscription. What you want to do is tap the fine print that says use the limited version 🚫.Version: 4.1.2

Not really free, do not download!I downloaded this app about a week ago with a two week free trial. While the app itself is great, the price is not justified. They want to charge you a weekly fee to use the app of over $7!!! What a rip-off. I made the mistake of accepting the terms for the two week trial, and now I am struggling to figure out how to cancel my subscription before I am charged. My advice--avoid the hassle all together and purchase a tuner for $15 at the store. You will get more for your money and save yourself the hassle..Version: 3.2

Stupid changes to free versionI have been using this app for years and I’ve really liked it. In fact, I just used it last week. However, I just tried to open it and could not get to the tuner without first accepting a “Free 3-day Trial” that triggers a $7.99 per week subscription charge. After reading the reviews, I discovered that you MUST accept the 3-day trial (and resulting subscription) in order to use the tuner. But, in order to avoid incurring charges, you must go into the settings and cancel the subscription. This is a sneaky business practice that borders on dishonest, essentially trying to make money on unsuspecting users who will inadvertently forget to cancel the subscription at some point. At this point I cannot recommend this app and will be deleting it from my phone..Version: 4.18.0

Was great but very bad nowWent to access my Uke tuner as I did twice a week and now have to subscribe £7.99 a month? No warning, no access without purchase, will not be subscribing to an app that has no loyalty and £7.99 a month for a TUNER? I get beggars can’t be choosers but you can buy a tuner for less than that Once so I’m out..Version: 4.18.0

If I could choose “0” I wouldI signed up for the free trial and didn’t enjoy this app. I went to my settings and canceled the trial subscription only to receive a charge on my account today. Been trying to reach support ever since. Very frustrated with the trial subscription policy and the fact you didn’t adhere to the cancelation process within the less than 1 week timeframe. Won’t be telling my music friends or any others about this app..Version: 4.1.0

Paid for additional tunings and now I have to subscribe!A few years ago I paid to have all of the tunings and now I have to pay a weekly Absolutely absurd... avoid this app like the plague Money grabbing, just going to buy a tuning pedal now as this will be cheaper in the long run.Version: 4.18.0

Awesome but expensiveI enjoyed the trial offered and would happily subscribe if it wasn’t 10$ every week.. unfortunate Because I love the app. If it was more affordable I would certainly reconsider. Use for my ukulele and since that is all I need it for it just is too much for me, if you are very musical maybe you could benefit more from this than I.Version: 4.16.0

Awful bait & switchFree version of App is suddenly unusable and demands an upgrade to the Advanced version to continue - it says “or continue with the limited version” but when you tap continue there is a further pop up window prompting you to pay. Awful..Version: 3.3

Scam!I am appalled. I bought the guitar tuner app, thinking it would help me, but instead it has only cost me over $35, for an app I used once. In order to access the full features you are forced to pay an extortionist fee of $12 a week ( more than my car insurance) I am disgusted that it has cost me my hard earned money. I only just realised it was still taking money out of my account weekly. I want my money back, and I won’t be recommending this to my friends. Absolute scam, this should be removed from the App Store , as there are way better apps available for FREE! I will be reporting this app..Version: 3.1.2

BS pricing changeThe most recent update included “under the hood improvements” but really meant “an attempt to take more money.” When I initially downloaded the app, everything on it was free. Then after a while they changed it to a one time purchase to unlock all tunings and instruments. I paid that one time fee, and it worked amazingly. Now I don’t even know how well it works, as it is trying to force me to pay $7.99 a week just to use it for basic tunings! I uninstalled it immediately. I personally expect the team behind this train wreck to up the price even more in the coming months. Not worth the time or money..Version: 3.2

Way too dangerousIt constantly asks you to pay! And not just a little bit, but up to 50$ a time! Way too dangerous..Version: 4.9.0

Scam!!Doesn’t give an option to NOT have premium subscription, i’ve downloaded the app today and no longer need it by it won’t let me cancel the subscription so am now worried i’m going to have to pay the ridiculous price of £7 A WEEK for something i will never use. !!!!!! 😤😤.Version: 3.3

10.49 a week Nope!I loved this tuner app. Great app. But no guitar tuner is worth 10.49 week. Greedy! Deleting all Gismart apps because of the apparent greed. A great big Boo!.Version: 4.19

No more free versionI used this app for years on the free tuner. I didn’t mind the ads, just tuned my guitar and went on with my life. But a while back there was an update that forced you to either do the free trial and then pay or pay at the start, free version is no longer an option. So I decided to get rid of the app. This was all about a year ago. I decided to give it another try today only to find they have not changed a thing. If you want people to pay for an app, then why don’t you just make the app cost money straight at purchase. Disappointed. And yes I know you can sign up for a free trial but that’s not the free version I used. I don’t want premium features I just want to tune my acoustic and move on..Version: 4.18.0

10.49 $ mandatory subscriptionI used to tune my guitars with this app but unfortunately after the update that I did, a pop-up comes and It can’t be gone away until you apply for the subscription . So practically I cannot use it anymore... I’m looking for a new tuning app btw.Version: 4.18.0

BruhFix your your app or I’ll fix it for you.Version: 4.18.0

Used to be free, not anymoreLoved this app. Used to be free with the option to subscribe. I considered it, but over time there’s been more and more of a push to make you subscribe. Now you’re forced to. Can’t use the app without paying now, so I’m not going to use it. This was the best there was in my opinion, but now there are plenty of equally good, free alternatives. Forcing you to pay for this after years of being free was a bad choice, especially with no warning period.Version: 4.18.0

Phishy marketing tacticsAfter many prompts to "upgrade" I finally agreed (just to get rid of ads, as promised) and clicked OK and then purchased the musical instrument bundle (which I don't really need/want). So now I'm stuck with these unwanted instrument apps and of course the ads are still alive and well in the tuner app!😩 Not very honest marketing, and I'll never purchase anything from this developer again, even if it's something useful. Beware!.Version: 4.18.0

Stop trying to steal moneyI could use this app down until the newest update when I tried to get in and I can’t get past the subscribe screen. Don’t hit me with the, “oh but u can cancel the trial” because I didn’t get a free app just to be forced to do a free trial when a perfectly good app is there. Please tell me how to just use the free version of the app! I just got the reply and I said exactly what I said not to...🤨👳🏿‍♀️.Version: 4.18.0

It’s now useless, and totally not worth the costHad this app a few years. Was free at he start and it went through a few different advertising and feature models over the years but it generally did the job. Considering how many adverts you had to sit through to tune one guitar it seemed a fair deal. They now instantly expect £7 subscription. A clip on tuner costs less than this. Where is the logic? Big brain move right there by the developers....Version: 4.18.0

Why the subscription?I know you need to make money but why so much? I just wanted to use the app without the subscription to tune my ukulele. But I can’t use the app without the subscription! So I had to delete the app and find a new app to tune my ukulele..Version: 4.30

Disgraceful (in my opinion)Used to be good when it was free but now you have to pay? Nah m8 not worth it. Disappointing. To pay £7 or however much it is EVERY month to use maybe once or twice every couple of months?.Version: 3.2

StupidThis is so stupid I just want to tune my guitar so I can play it not just paying $100.Version: 4.15.0

Originally gave this a 5* now it’s a 2*This was my go to FREE app to tune my son’s guitar with. It was easy, straightforward, and you didn’t need to think twice. I don’t even play guitar! BUT they’ve now felt the need to charge for using their app - $12/wk subscription! I think not! Way to lose your audience. Have deleted app and gone to the next free one. Way to lose your base in a second!.Version: 3.2

Fix this problem pleaseI had downloaded your app and started your free trial and the day I did, I attempted to cancel the trial as it wasn’t what I was looking for, but there was no option to do so. With this reason I deleted it and now receive a notification that I am to pay for something that I haven’t used and as I do not have anything in my bank account I am forced to have to add money in to my account as I am now unable to download any free apps, I would like this problem to be fixed, thank you..Version: 3.2

DupedI had this app for about a year, and have really enjoyed using it to keep my uke, guitar, and harp in tip-top shape...until now. All of a sudden, it makes me subscribe to continue using it for nearly $8 per week. Not month, but week. And shame on iTunes for not making that clear to future users—they make it seem like it’s still free, and not a pricey weekly subscription. I understand that the companies and developers that create these apps need to get some financial reimbursement for the services they provide, but to pull the wool over the users eyes like this is ridiculous..Version: 3.2

False forced subscription to useThis app tries to trick you into paying for a subscription. It has a deceptive launch GUI that makes it hard to find where to click to get through to the free/limited version..Version: 3.3

Just buy a hardware tuner!$8.... a week? If my math is correct that’s over $400 a year. Are you insane? It’s a tuner. I’m not even paying that much for all of my subscriptions to streaming media and my music lesson apps. No way! To call this a scam would be putting it kindly. There’s nothing this app could offer in terms of value that would qualify the comparable yearly cost to an affordable guitar or a well made solid body ukulele. Shame on you guys!.Version: 4.18.0
