Google Home for Negative User Reviews

AppallingHorrible app to setup wifi. One star is one too many. If you are a Google Home developer I only have one thing to tell you: forget about everything your managers are telling you, and just reinstate the Google Wifi app. It was working, don’t break it! The Home app has so many lags to the point it takes several seconds between taps. Then you tap again, because you don’t know if the first one went through- just to find that it will execute all your taps sequentially with all sorts of unexpected results. It’s infuriating! So many bugs also. It can’t even tell which point the device is connected too. Checkboxes that you check will appear unchecked, but in fact are checked! And so many other bugs. All of that was working perfectly on the Google Wifi app - which I made the mistake of uninstalling, and can’t get it back..Version: 2.43.111

Really disappointingI started using Google Home about a year ago. Everything worked well and I was pleased with it. I then decided to go full smart home with more Google home devices, smart switches, Google WiFi, smart blinds, smart lights etc. Not long ago my whole system just stopped working. After two hours on the phone to Google, I was told to get a new Google account. So I started from scratch and set everything up again. Although it’s working now, the service is definitely not as good as it use to be. The assistant keeps getting commands wrong, tell me to set things up again which worked fine before, simply don’t do commands etc. The whole thing just became very messy. I hope Google sort this mess out, but for now it’s a 1 star from me..Version: 2.18.115

Doesn’t work well with Google nest routersGoogle home always shows Google mesh routers to be offline when they are not. I have tried getting help, but the response from support is that it is a bug in the google home software. There is no way to communicate with anyone at google home who can fix the problem. This appears to be poorly written and poorly supported software. If anyone in the Google Home team would like to respond, that would be great, but it’s unlikely. Stay away from this app if you can. Update in response to developer’s comments: Suggestion to turn off IPV6 is a red herring (I don’t use it). Restarting and reconfiguring from scratch also does not work to fix this problem. If you read the google home forum messages, you will find many people have the same problem and have tried the same useless suggestions. The problem is recognized by support as a google home software issue, but I can not rule out google nest nest router firmware issues. After at least 4-5 months of complaints, nothing has been done to fix this. I would like to believe the suggestion that Google is “looking into it” but I a skeptical at this point. A number of Google forum members are starting to abandon google devices due to the poor response to this problem..Version: 2.56.107

Not for shared accommodations (student houses, halls, apartment complexes)The app itself is fine, if a little complicated. The products that the app is designed to work with do NOT work in shared accommodations. There is no safeguarding against other people changing your music on the home mini, changing what you’re watching in chromecast etc. I imagine it’s the same with smart bulbs or thermostats. Everyone on the same WiFi can see everyone else’s devices locally, and google considers this a design choice, not a flaw. One slip of a finger and I’m casting music to someone’s speaker, and people are accidentally and maliciously casting to my devices. Good thing I got my mini for free, as it would be a waste of money. Don’t bother unless you’re in a private house with private WiFi. 2 stars not 1 because the idea is great, but the execution is terrible. My solution would be the ability to lock devices to certain google accounts. It wouldn’t be hard to add a whole household onto a device, and would allow people in shared buildings to use the products as intended. Sort it out google!.Version: 2.29.110

Awful doorbellDoorbell hardware looks great. I read great reviews about the latest doorbell. I got one over a year ago. It's been problematic from day one and i wished i returned it. It's right next to the router (with a wall in the way) with a 35Mbps upload speed (500Mbps download). Accessing the live doorbell video on an iPhone 12 Pro IN THE SAME HOUSE or elsewhere takes so long, the person at the door has already given up and left. Sometimes clicking the "live video" button doesn't actually give you the live video at all, but you still have to wait for it to load and then fail. The video history often says the clip isn't available, so even trying to figure who just walked away from my door is impossible for the first 5 minutes. This app needs major improvements for the doorbell. The other Nest cameras only give a live view and no history like the equally awful Nest app which has its own set of issues including not seeing the Nest doorbell. It's only a matter of time before Google discontinue this as well. RIP Stadia..Version: 2.58.104

Waste of time on a iPhoneJust a horrible piece of tech. Doesn’t work at all with an iPhone, doesn’t connect to devices, there’s a work around of putting your phone in flight mode, but in reality how good is a app if you have to go in and out of flight mode daily to use it?.Version: 2.59.211

DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!This app has ruined google home for me. Google home was working fine for 6 months with no complains. I wanted to connect voice recognition so I could set specific reminders etc, however as soon as I recorded my voice it no longer responds to me. It lights up when I say “ok google” however she doesn’t respond when I give commands or ask questions. I have tried re-recording my voice several times, disconnecting google home from power & unlinking my voice from the app, however nothing has worked & the speaker is now useless to me. I have noticed a few other people have this same issue in the google forums, however there’s no reply or answer from google. DO NOT DOWNLOAD!.Version: 2.10.109

Don’t waste your time and moneyGoogle home app worked ok for 8 months. It is somewhat clunky, like a prototype design. Starting in Sept of 2023, when reviewing prior video the app frequently and randomly crashes. This happens when using either my iPhone or iPad. I have not been able to use the app one day for more than 2 minutes before it crashes. Tech support is not helpful. Each time they ask me to do the same steps. It is now November and I get an email asking me for proof of my iPad and iPhone SW version and asking me to upload the latest GOOGLE HOME APP sw version. I can’t tell you how many times I have deleted the app and installed whatever is the latest available. Unfortunately I can “google” search and find way too many people having similar app crash issues. I suggested to their support to google search all the problems. I also have offer to have engineering contact me directly to help troubleshoot. What do i get, but another email asking me to ensure my software is the latest and to raise yet another feedback and include photos of the sw version. ARGH !.Version: 3.9.104

Upgraded app downgraded featuresSo I’m a huge fan of Google nest associated products I have them to control most of my house. I recently needed a new camera. I purchased it from the Google store only to find that this camera needed setting up on the new Google home app. The app itself feels clumsy and complicated compared to the old Nest app. However the biggest issue is you lose your schedules for the cameras which means they have to be on all the time or off all the time you can’t set a schedule. This seems a basic feature that most people would use to schedule the times cameras are on which makes my new camera purchase useless as it’s only compatible with the new Google Home app..Version: 2.65.105

Poorly organizedIt’s difficult to navigate, setup and use. There are so many things to look at, but editing or changing anything is not intuitive or simple. very frustrating. I wish there was another option..Version: 2.23.112

Good when it worksWe have a wifi extender in our house because my room and other rooms don’t have good wifi. I had set up my google home mini, chromecast and tp-link smart plug and connected them all to the same wifi network (through the extender). The plug works amazing with its own app and just thru the google home app. But using it with the google home zis TERRIBLE. Because of the wifi extender I get excellent wifi coverage but it still manages to stuff things up. I can’t change any of my homes setting because it says “some settings are unavailable right now”. And when I try and change them they say “connect to the same wifi network to edit” even if I am. I would give the settings part of the app a zero but the smart plug saves it. Get it together Google!.Version: 2.8.107

Google is ruining NEST :(I originally picked nest because I was avoiding ADT and any other huge companies for over charging us a service! I love that I open the Nest app and i can see everything from nest smartdoor, all cameras, thermostats and sensors. I was so happy with it for 5 years, but when google bought it, everything is changing. The Nest app is slower and now its saying there will be no future updates after April 8 of this year and also whenever I buy new cameras, it doesn’t show on Nest app anymore, only on google home app. Even the yearly price with Nest aware went up, this is so sad! Everything i used to love with Nest is all going away because of google. The sensors for the door and windows is now going to be non functional because google wants to sell us ADT service. We had it good and now it’s being ruined by google. I love the new camera google is adding, but that would have been great if that shows up on Nest App as well, we can continue using the nest app because most customers love the look and how easy it is to navigate, and pls dont remove our home sensors!!!!! We dont want ADT, if this all continues, im leaving Nest and switching to other companies similar to Nest..Version: 3.12.104

Camera Interface is TerribleI’ve had Dropcam, turned Nest, cameras for over ten years using the Nest app and Nest website to view the footage. I recently bought a few more cameras and learned that I had to view all of my new cameras through the Google Home app. No problem. It seemed kind of cool to have all of my smart plugs, cameras, etc in one app. Then, I started using it regularly to view the cameras and holy cow is this interface terrible. Let me freely scroll, without buffering, through my videos. Please. I do this regularly on my Nest app for my old cameras. Also, I can’t believe I’m even having to say this but let me view my cameras on a desktop. I was blown away when I went to view my cameras on a desktop (because the scrolling feature on my phone is such garbage on Google Home) only to discover that there’s no way to review my footage on a desktop. Google, you were given a perfect app when you acquired Nest. How did you mess it up so badly? Please, please play around on the Nest app and match your Google Home app exactly. They did the hard work for you. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Nest app is far superior to Google Home..Version: 2.63.110

A seriously awful platform2 weeks ago I got google home setup with a few bulbs I ordered. I can see them, I can turn them on and off, great! I added a routine to one so it woke my daughter up at a set time. Now I cannot find these settings anywhere. I’ve googled it and even official docs do not make sense. I’ve gone through every menu, cannot find the blasted thing. If I can’t edit a schedule, I simply have to stop using the app. The app is a hot mess. Settings in 3 different menus. Persistent other menus on every page that contain largely pointless details like app versions and links to help. Menus that are just not clear and totally text based requiring you to really study the links - and still get it wrong - rather than skim. Really poor UI realestate usage. If you’ve looked at Apple’s home app and then tried using this for some non-HomeKit supported hardware, you’re going to have a bad time..Version: 2.31.112

WiFi ARrrrrrBecause of the fantastic idea of broadband services that still join into old school copper wiring and despite having 3 phone Communication towers nearby we still have internet access issues made worse if something is not paid up the entire system slows down to the point turning the lot off and doing basically anything else. If you’re Apple ID is not paid up or your iCloud account is not paid up or if the internet service provider is not paid up....one thing not paid up and the entire system moves slower than the first dial up Internet modem ever invented . I have paid up my phone bill my Netflix is paid up so you would think my WiFi should be running sweet BUT NO I haven’t paid my $5 monthly fee for the cloud and the 2 have nothing to do with each other you would think but no one small thing not paid and you can’t even watch a movie I’d have more fun using this iPad as a frisbee 1problem and my iPad slows down Netflix stops playing and Crome Cast becomes useless. 3 different things but 1 effects the other so much they all play up and become more trouble than they are worth in total frustration and defeating the entire purpose of convenience.. FIX THIS ISSUE.Version: 2.15.517

Update seems to have broken itBeen using the Chromecast from Google Home for a while. Took the Chromecast to a new place and tried to change the WiFi supply but, couldn’t get it to switch over so performed a reset on the Chromecast. Now, I plug in the Chromecast as normal and see the display on the screen telling me to download the Google Home App. I go into the Home App, select “add device” and then click into my WiFi option on my iPhone and select the ChromecastXXXX from the list of WiFi options. I then go back into the Home app and nothing happens. The screen on my tv stays the same and the app doesn’t do a thing. So I can only assume that either the Chromecast itself is busted or the app is screwed after the last update 5-days ago. I’ve gone into help but, I can’t get an answer for what is wrong. All was working fine up until a few days ago..Version: 1.31.910

Connect to Bluetooth speakerGoes good so far from what I can tell. Would give higher amount of stars however I’m kinda annoyed by the lack of options in regards to connecting the video to a chrome cast and playing the audio through a seperate Bluetooth speaker. Currently trying and failing to connect a UE boom..Version: 2.11.112

Constantly crashingApp keeps freezing and crashes each time when viewing the recorded Google security camera footage. Probably since the last iOS update because I didn’t have these issues until recently. Reinstalling the app and restarting the iPhone made no difference. The same issue happens on my iPad lately. Another couple of feedback points: This App is not user friendly and super touchy. As soon as I try to zoom in during live view and move the position slightly, it automatically jumps to the previous recorded video footage and starts to play that before crashing again. Also, it would be helpful if live viewed footage is recorded automatically. I certainly expected better from Google and prefer the Ring camera app, which is a lot more user friendly and stable..Version: 3.8.107

Says can’t connect to wifi but shows up when setting up as a new deviceWe have had our chrome cast set up for at least a year and no settings, modem or anything has changed but now says it can’t connect to wifi. However if I try set up a new device it automatically appears. I won’t finish setting up the new device because google keep adding in extras into the privacy agreement which I am not keen on reading each time in order just to use a product I have paid for and expect to be able to use without all these added agreements..Version: 2.47.111

Overcomplicated and trying to be too cleverOverall the chrome cast is a great idea. Casting from your phone for videos and photos is relatively easy. However, ambient mode is trying to be far too clever. I've spent ages trying to get it to broadcast all of the photos in my favourite album, yet there is no way to do so. It just seems to rotate a select few photos from my favourites, perhaps only 1/4 of them. It used to show the portrait and landscape photos, yet now only seems to show landscape photos. Incredibly frustrating when you put a lot of time into creating albums to show on the screensaver. When casting videos, it repeatedly disconnects meaning you cannot control the video without closing down the streaming app and reconnecting multiple times. Again incredibly frustrating..Version: 2.8.107

Shocking privacyRequires precise location to set up. Totally creepy and unnecessary, Google. They could have used approximate location to confirm the city the device is in but they want precise location along with a wifi password.Version: 3.1.108

BillingI had the app on my iPhone and someone accidentally deleted it so I’ve tried to reinstall it however it is now charging me? I didn’t have this problem before and I do my card details and everything and it just takes me back to the first step over and over again?.Version: 2.63.110

App crashes while playing Nest Cam footageBroadly this app is great, fairly well designed, and does the job. However recently - must be the most recent version or two - I’ve started reliably seeing the app crash when playing back events captured by a Nest Cam. This causes the screen to fully black out, showing just a loading spinner, and then the iPhone recovers to a locked state with the Google Home app closed. This really needs looking at, as it limits the NestAware functionality that I’m paying for..Version: 3.8.107

When it works...So my wife and I own a google home, I set myself up as the primary yet at every major update it throws me out of the system (won’t recognise me anymore, but all my preferences are there) and it always sets her up as the primary. With this latest update I can’t even get her to do anything anymore, and can’t teach her my voice either. When it works it’s fine, but when it doesn’t it’s incredibly frustrating to fix (when it’s even in the right voice, she seems to decide she’s using an American accent half the time). Terrible program, built by programmers with no idea about user interface. Get a graphic designer to help you, or get an alternative, because this is awful..Version: 2.7.307

Horrible. The app is NOT user friendly. the help center is a joke. the talk help is an even bigger joke. if you click on some of the default question you “could” ask, some answer will be “i don’t understand”. how don’t you understand your own question. link devices is impossible to figure out. the help center just says to open setting. that’s all it ever says “open google home app and go to setting”. when setting doesn’t even let you do anything. the instructions for next step are super unclear. my google home wasn’t connected to wifi. google said to change it on the app. the app said to make sure in i’m on the same wifi. how can i be on the same wifi as my google home, if my google home isn’t connecting to wifi. then come to find out they meant go to the seething on your phone and change the wifi. so i did. change to wifi to my google home wifi (which isn’t really a wifi but i guess that’s how to access things??? idk). when i switches over now the app doesn’t work because it isn’t a real wifi connection. so i’m conclusion: i have a google speaker that can’t access wifi. a google home app that can’t access the speaker to change the wifi because it can’t connect to wifi. and when i try to “connect to the same wifi as the speaker” i can’t access the app. help center is a joke. the app is unintuitive. wouldn’t buy it for my enemy..Version: 2.24.112

Unable to setup Google home miniI’m trying to connect the google home mini through this app. Previously I had set it up, then I moved to a new place, it was connected earlier, it was having some issues so I disconnected and tried to set it up again, however I’m unable to do so now. Please let me know how can I set it up again..Version: 2.29.110

Poor app, badly designedFor such a huge company to produce an app like this that is so vital for controlling your Google Nest network is just astonishing. It’s absolutely terrible. You can’t find anything within it, settings for various aspects of your network are hidden inside secret books and crannies that defy logic in finding. They’ve migrated everything from the better (though not perfect) Google WiFi app to this one - why? And I don’t think all the controls have been migrated across. Or else they have and they’ve been hidden somewhere only the designers know where. The app shows, for example, that in this house we have zero devices connected to the Network. So how am I writing this review, Google? I can’t prioritise a device to improve the bandwidth that Google WiFi somehow restricts because there are apparently no devices connected. I can’t see why my Internet quality is so poor on this network despite my “lightning quick” 100mbps broadband service because the testing capability has gone somewhere very mysterious. When I bought the Google WiFi equipment I was told it was smart tech and would optimise itself automatically, but really I’m better off just using the basic hub my broadband company gave me. Good Lord..Version: 2.40.104

Fix ThisViewing any recorded event crashes the app on my iPhone and sends me to my Lock Screen. I see that I’m one of many with this problem. Fix this!.Version: 3.9.104

Hopeless app for Nest camera AVOIDWe had been using the Nest App for years to control our cameras and smoke and fire alarm ; a great app easy to use, reliable. We then bough an addition Nest wired camera and (after purchase) discovered it was not compatible with the Nest app and we needed to use this one. The app is a nightmare - unreliable, extremely slow to react, very difficult to navigate. In particular is frequent tells us the camera footage we want to view is not available- after shutting down the app and starting again it eventually appears …… Does nobody test apps before release? Why replace a superb Nest app with this rubbish?.Version: 2.57.109

Really difficult to navigate and get workingAnyone got a fix got a fix for how to connect the chrome cast to wifi? Both my device and the cast are on the same network. This is nuts, it was working perfect a week ago then suddenly messed up with this new updated app. Probably better off getting an updated smart tv with app installing features at this rate. Been trying to fix for hours by following official And non official troubleshooting guides online and nothing is working! Hooray!.Version: 2.66.106

Wifi problemsThe Corecam cameras keep going offline or being disconnected and I am sick of wasting more time trying to set them up. There is something rotten in Denmark going on with the neighbours hacking into our Wifi and it looks like the same thing has happened as before with the other two camera setups. They don’t work. The front step was covered in dog urine again and the neighbors are laughing at us. Until the internet police come and clean up this street from the neighbours nefarious activities, honest people like us will continue to be ripped off and hacked into. My family are walking around in denial and blaming me for the cameras not working. I give up. Another $800 wasted. This has been going on for a long time here. I feel like smashing the whole lot of them..Version: 2.62.115

Bad update for ChromecastFirst, let me say my experience on the phone with customer service (Michael) was outstanding. He helped me fix the original issue. I had every item in our home set up, but I was unable to set up the Living Room. After hours of failed attempts, I got in contact with support. Michael walked me through a few different troubleshooting ideas to no avail. When he realized I was using the iPhone XR, he told me that was the issue. I had to get my son’s iPhone 6 to complete the set up. Great. Problem solved. An hour and a half later, all of the items in our household crashed. I attempted to walk through the steps Michael had provided. It all seemed fine, until it came to the last step (connecting to Wi-Fi), at which point, the TV showed my the screen with the 4 digit code...again. I went in circles for 2 more hours. I requested replacement Chromecast devices and Michael said he would definitely pass the word up. For everything in our house to crash and not reboot, I am guessing it has something to do with the update. After all, the last question it asked before I had to start over was, “Set up some smart lights”, which is actually more of a command than a question..Version: 2.12.107

MehGoogle seems to be getting worse and worse . It can no longer take a two sentence command like play music for 20 minutes. You have to do it in two commands but can only put the timer after the music starts which also takes like 30 seconds to starts..Version: 3.11.104

Pure DisappointmentI am just disappointed at this point Google is a multi million company but yet they managed to make me hate a service and product like never before. Where should I start the app that hasn’t changed for years with many bugs or the product that also hasn’t changed with many bugs. The app is a horible experience it’s like I bought a cheap smart home device and only one person designed the app. I have a google nest thermostat now tell me why I have to open the app click on thermostat for it only to go into a loading loop click out of it go back to it and change the temperature JUST for it to change it back to its original state and then i have to keep fidiling with it until it decides to stay on the desire temputure next I have a google home mini 2 of them and a smrart display why when I speak to my smart display it answers from across the halway even tough i changed the sensetivity settings why does it have to think for 3 minutes straight when i say turn the __ lights off why does it do what it sposed to do after 3 minutes of thinking and then couple minutes after just screams something went wring try again later now i could keep going but i dont have the time just like i dont have to time to deal with a broken products that I spent my money on. Google youre a disgrace.Version: 2.60.118

Calendar is not supportedDownloaded the app from the App Store and couldn’t connect my calendar. So I did a bit of research and then set up and synced google calendar with my Apple calendar. But for the life of me I cannot get this to work on google home. After some hours researching apparently multiple calendars are now supported (since Nov 2017) I downloaded the app 3 days ago and double checked just now that it is the latest in App Store however there is no calendar in my settings even when following the help advice on google and other sites. Very frustrating not to be able to use my calendar on this device.Version: 1.26.810

New nest cam livestream problemI just replaced my old drop cam with the new model provided free by google. To install the new camera I had to migrate to the new google home app. I uninstalled and threw away the old drop cam that was still working flawlessly after ten years on the nest app due to its upcoming end of support. The new camera and app are a big step backwards, most particularly the live streaming. The new system will only provide a live stream for about 6 seconds before it spools and them blacks out and says camera unavailable. The new camera is installed in the exact same location as the old camera that would live stream indefinitely. I have high speed commercial comcast internet and strong router. There is plenty of bandwidth as demonstrated by the previous drop cam working flawlessly for ten years. Don’t try to tell me the problem is my wifi signal or band width. Also, I migrated the paid up camera subscription. Without a live feed for more than 6 seconds at a time the new app and camera are useless to me. It seems a number of new camera users are experiencing the same problem with no acknowledgement, solution, or fix provided..Version: 2.67.102

Doesn’t work with iPhone 11For a big corporation I expect thorough QA and testing. So gets 1 star for a basic fail. You can’t even set up the google nest / hub via iPhone 11 (IOS 13) - it’s forever stuck on the loading screen as it can’t see / can’t connect to the new phones. I had to get an old iPhone 5S on a previous IOS to get it to connect. And then the UX/UI on the Google home app is horrendous and fragmented. Why are home and assistant separate but very similar apps? Why so many nerdy convoluted parameter screens. Why such poor clarity? The set up isn’t intuitive at all. I’ve started to believe Google are a team of amateurs for so many obvious fails in user journey logic. And now google assistant constantly prompts for Bluetooth connect (when it’s not even needed.) thus blocking the screen. Thus blocking assistant. Appalling work!.Version: 2.15.414

No screen mirroringI think its pathetic that there is still no straight forward way for us to mirror our screens with google home on chromecast. Instead I have to download a third party app to do it, who knows what info their taking from my phone. 110$ for a chromecast just for it to be useless for me without a third party app. Allow screen mirroring!.Version: 3.1.108

Constant WiFi problemsThe apps is on to something good but still has major connection and WiFi problems. I have kids and have them on a usage schedule through the Google Home app. I’m also using the google WiFi router as well. I constantly have issues where the WiFi will stop working for one of the computers or other device. The “pause” or “not pause” option (which is confusing anyways) always gets stuck or shows “paused” when it’s not or vice versa. This wouldn’t be a big deal if Covid didn’t have my kids schooling from home. I’ve stayed on top of updating the app but I still have problems. Another issue I have is connecting to 3rd party smart media. The interface is always confusing with too many options and flowcharts. Make it simple guys. I went to school for computer information systems and I get stuck sometimes, think about all those elderly folks, they probably have to hire someone to set up google products. Google has never been like Apple where it’s user interface is super easy to adapt to. The programmers need a separate user interface team for just about all of their software. You guys are good but you need some big changes..Version: 2.27.109

Didn’t like itI downloaded this app to use chromecast. It worked for sometime but it’s not working anymore. So didn’t like it..Version: 1.31.910

I NEED HELP!!!It is helpful but I download tris app to get my Google home mini set up and it did not do this. The app must have a bug or something for me because I am unable to set up my Google home mini (I got it for Christmas). What I mean by this is that when you go to settings and go to the google home app there is should be an icon that says ‘location’, mind does not have this. Could someone please help me because I’m not sure what to do. Could someone check if they have a location icon when you click settings and then Google home. Please HELP!!! I was so excited to use this 😓😥.Version: 2.47.111

Is it just me?I’ve had two 3 chromecasts now. Every single time I set it up it’s never straight forward. Can’t connect to my wifi even though I’m connected to it. Then I connect to Chromecast, successful, go to the app. Now connect to wifi. Can’t find it. Or turn on local networks. It is!!!!.Version: 2.38.107

Notifications too quiet and bad night visionThis is my last review. I have posted a few since the IOS 17 updates. Not satisfied with the response from Google regarding the quiet camera notifications. We’ve missed many important events since the update and since my original contact with Google. By events, I mean people coming to our house and packages being delivered etc. The camera sees the activity, it just doesn’t alert us with adequate sound. No solution has been given for the quiet notifications, no acknowledgment that it needs corrected. I haven’t even mentioned the bad night vision that occurred at 1:15 am several weeks ago, that has remained. Like other reviewers, I too, could enjoy full color video in low light at night, but not any more. In fact, I had to buy an illuminator to see clearly at night even with the camera in night vision mode. I was sent an invite to the public preview, but much to my amazement, I didn’t see anything that I hadn’t seen before. Wish you would just address the actual complaint: camera alerts that can’t be customized and nighttime video degradation. Although, the alert issue is critical. The illuminator helped the camera see effectively at night..Version: 3.7.103

Redesigned app is rubbishGoogle has broken the Home app on iOS with its redesign in the last week. Update requires you to add all of your devices again, changes the voice to a default, and doesn’t have an option in the app to change the voice back. Frustrated!!!Chromecast was working completely fine until I did the last update. Now my phone is connected to wifi but the Chromecast won’t recognize ANY wifi within range...tried deleting the app, signing in and out...NOTHING WORKS.Version: 2.6.113

Prefer previous versionI prefer the previous version now its more complicated than needed and the app only works once at a time and then i need to reopen the app again to be able to use it.Version: 2.9.118

HorribleI’m standing right beside my chrome cast with it on, my Bluetooth on everything that needs to be on is on, it’s telling me what my chrome cast name is and everytime I search for a device it never finds my chrome cast that I’m literally touching with my phone, does this app even work? Done this for like an hour for the past 2 days this is ridiculous..Version: 2.24.112

Great when it worksFantastic when it works but just doesn't seem to be reliable. Every update of iOS or sometimes without I find some of my devices lose stability with connection. I have a mesh WiFi network and that seems to create problems with devices not been visible depending on where I am in my home and Chrome cast groups is a real pain with groups working one minute and not others. I have 9 speakers throughout the house with Chromecast or assistant built in so don't believe I have too many but just not reliable despite resets and re-adding devices numerous times..Version: 2.14.110

Google Cast A1, 5 * all the way.I've not used my cast device for ages, it's the 1st one they sold, so eventually I realised that I needed to push the reset button on the cast device, then it would not work with my router, Aghhhhhh but fair play Google I rated your help page as crap and wrote a scathing report as well, as if by magic my old device updated its self connected to my BT router and minutes later I was watching Netflix on my tv! Wicked and well done Google. For a 3/4 year old device idle for ages Otis faultless. I have not updated to OS 10? On my 6+ phone Maybe that helped ?.Version: 1.28.508

Glitchy and temperamentalI have a disability and require my smart home to turn on and off many devices (over 50). More often than I would like I find that Google home stops turning things on and off with voice commands, even though Google itself says it’s doing it. The lights, fans et al remain unchanged. I don’t have the ability to go round and unplug everything, reset everything, reinstall everything, or basically go through the whole setup procedure every time the system stops working. So my smart home that is designed to help with my disability becomes a hindrance. I wish Google would provide support for people like me..Version: 2.32.111

Issues with nest camerasThis app does not play nice with the older nest cameras… Not only can you not use certain cameras on the Nest app itself“nest camera with spotlight“ you can only use them on this Google home app, but when you try to view the older nest cameras on this app, 80% of the time the app either freezes up and shuts down or you have to delete the app and then reinstall it just the view all the other cameras, except for the ones that are specifically designed for this app, it is completely useless If you have any of the older cameras “1st GEN“ of nest… Google had claimed over a year ago that they would do the integration of the newer style cameras with the nest app and vice versa, so far “as usual” that has not happened, and because of this, they will be losing almost $1000 sale from me…. You can’t even view “full” history, meaning if the camera is continuously recording you can only view that clip, so if something happened before or after the actual clip you cannot view it, but if the camera is on the Nest app you can view before and after that clip, so once again, they are very “restricted” on this app.Version: 3.1.108

Frustrating!!The Google home hub is the worst. It’s stops working randomly and it won’t do the things it used to. You delete and reinstall as the troubleshooting suggests and it makes no difference. I used to get the bedtime routine and that stopped working. We also used to be able to say “hey Google what’s the weather today” now it says I can’t help with that. I can basically set an alarm to wake up and have my photos displayed on the screen and that’s about it everything else has stopped working. I should have got an Alexa. There is nowhere to get help either. I have 2 now, that basically don’t work..Version: 3.10.103

??It’s not easy to set up and all of a sudden it don’t work and i can’t connect my wifi on to it and it says to enable the local network and I do that and it still says to enable it I’ve been trying everyday for the last 4 days and nothing has change the pw is correct I restart the cast turned my wifi on and off and still nothing how can I fix this?? Might need to make a few adjustments to this cause it’s bugging me I’ve did everything it says tried googling it still nothing at all.Version: 2.48.106

WTH???ALSO (see previous review) … where are you (Google Home/ the App Store) getting the 4.5 star rating from ???? From the hundreds of reviews I’ve read through, they’re certainly not 5’s and most people are experiencing the same or similar issues that I have been. Is Google actually looking at these reviews? Are they reaching out to get input from the users on the app, especially the updated version? Am I missing something??? And reaching out to support is a waste. You don’t speak with an expert on the Google Home app, you speak to someone in India reading from a script!! So frustrating!!! Google is a multi billion dollar business and I understand that have and offer TONS of different services but as we move into a more automated, voice activated world, than I would think that figuring out from the people using the services what works and what doesn’t (not just, I don’t like the platform kind of complaints but actual technical issues with the connection between app/device/user) seems really important to having and improving those services, no? Just the thoughts of a consumer that’s really curious and frustrated and would love to continue to use the service but also feel like I shouldn’t be in a position to spend more time writing a review than enjoying the service..Version: 3.1.108

Wasnt able to get soundHi, Even though I was able to connect my Iphone to the chromecast...It was not able to play sounds even thou I tried to change the settings on my phone it still wasnt able to play sound 😑😓.Version: 2.56.107

SO DIFFICULT to connect new devicesThe app feels broken - once devices are connected, they work great, but it feels impossible sometimes to connect new devices. Also the error messages are very “computer says no”. Like okay it didn’t connect, what do I do? This should be seamless, but I’ve now had issues connecting Phillips Hue lights, Yale home alarms, and even Google’s own WiFi router/points. As I say, devices work well when you manage to get them paired, but it’s hard work each time. Also - there’s no way to group groups so if you have multiple lights in multiple rooms, you can’t “dim the downstairs lights to 70%” for example. Feels like no one is looking to improve this app, it’s just sitting there with the same issues..Version: 2.47.111

App gets more confusing to use with every updatePlus chromecast audio devices seem to never be connected to my wifi according to this app, but they are working fine with every other app on my phone..Version: 2.6.113

An app written by nerds for nerdsThis is the clunkiest and almost most stupid app I have used. Create a shopping list is a good example. We have a speaker thingie which responds to “OK Google”. “Add potatoes to the shopping list. Done.” Great where is my shopping list? Open Google Home; go to “Settings”???!!!!!! Down the bottom of the page is “Notes and Lists”. Select this. New page with Notes and Lists on it. Select Lists; new page with Shopping List and other lists. Open the shopping list. This is 5 steps to get to my shopping list. Stupid, stupid complexity that is unnecessary. At the top level there is enough room for the shopping list. Why is space used for “adding another device” when the most used items are down 5 levels?.Version: 2.48.106

No support for Apple Music in CanadaDon’t bother buying a google home mini: despite what they said in December 2020, Canada still doesn’t have Apple Music support, making this device useless since you already have a phone..Version: 2.37.107

A truly, spectacularly awful app, and a downgrade from previous versionsGoogle designers appear to have lost their way with this. The point of home automation is to make life easier, but with each new iteration of this app things get worse. What happened to the Media setting which allowed volume control to be adjusted for each device within a group? The problem is every time that music is played through a group, the volume of each device is changed - either louder, or quieter. So frustrating! The app also deletes groups occasionally, and they have to be recreated. Speaking of groups, it’s now impossible to change music to play from a single device to a group..Version: 3.7.103

App software is uselessSystem works ok but app tells you wifi units are offline when they aren’t. It is truly awful for a company like Google to produce such cr*p. Tech support from Google provides no useful information, so you are left with an ok system and at best you only know what it is doing because it does work most of the time. Have invested heavily into this as a Wifi mesh system but over the last 6months the App has got worse. I know just try to ignore what it thinks is going on. Suggest you look at all reviews / alternatives before buying this system atm. Hopefully Google will put in some effort, sack the app software writers and employ someone who knows what they are doing and test it before sending out any new versions. I feel better now!.Version: 2.58.104

Once it was working now it seems it’s not picking up my iPhoneIt’s terrible trying to set up, it’s taking me a while to set this up and it’s not working via an iPhone. One night it was working fine and then the next morning i couldn’t cast and still cannot find the issue!.Version: 2.47.111

Routines settings no longer availableIf you have an iPhone, you can only get half the Google Home functionality currently because Routine is no longer available in the iPhone app. The old workout (asking your device to create a routine so it sent a notification you could follow to the routine settings) now no longer works. Google has known about this issue for months and shown no interest in fixing it. Don’t waste your time until the app is improved..Version: 2.32.111

Not at all intuitiveThe whole idea is good but the app is not at all intuitive. There aren’t “windows” where you would expect and hope them to be and it’s difficult to navigate around the app. Also maybe one day, somewhere, someone will invent a bluetooth system that actually works properly all the time. Google, Garmin and Apple are all the same…..inventing devices that rely on and only work by using bluetooth and which only work sometimes. Trying to pair a bluetooth speaker to a Google Home is like fishing, sometimes you’re lucky but most of the time you’re not and, unlike a leaking tap where you can see the dripping water, replace the washer and it’s fixed, with bluetooth it’s impossible to see and fix..Version: 2.40.104

Terrible updatesWhile the calling is great, the accessibility you can get for this app is quite good. The updates are frustrating… like linking a duo account just to call someone off a contact you should already have linked on your mini because it’s in your PHONE and you out the contacts into the settings when you get your mini in the first place like I have done myself.. now you can’t call anyone without the troubles of fiddling with the settings not just on your phone but getting your friends to download everything it needs just to have a 5 minute call every now and then.. this WAS a good all but it’s becoming too far fetched. Making it simpler and more abrupt in the settings don’t need to overdo everything.Version: 3.1.108

HORRIBLE APPThis app is the worst app I have on my phone, I wouldn’t even give it one star, but you have to put something in for the rating, but the annoying part is, I have no choice but to use it. I have spent $1000s on my google setup at home, with the lights, wifi, and 3x google home devices And of course this app is the centre of it all. Your app CONSTANTLY FAILS, it’s constantly goes “something went wrong”. Whenever I get a new Phillips Hue light, I have to completely delete every light and reinstall every single one to the google home system, which as everything else does, keeps failing. On Monday, I had purchased 3x Philips Hue Colour Bulbs, to replace the 3x white bulbs I already had, I had to completely delete the philips hue system and it took me 2 HOURS, to set it all back up again. Because it kept failing and saying “something went wrong”. In the process of this, it deleted my WeMo devices and now will not allow me to reconnect them. One time when I purchased a new google home device, that also take several hours for it finally to connect with the app, and in the process, it deleted all of my google devices. This app is horrid. I HATE using it. I actually cannot wait to the Apple HomePod device comes out, at this rate, I will be changing over. Because it seems more simple. Get your act together Google..Version: 1.26.810

A bit of a joke for a company the size of GoogleIt groups your lights in a room and there is no way to split them. So if you have a 2 lamps and 4 down lights you have to drill down and turn on the lamps individually if that’s all you want on. Trust me, you’ll get tired of it. The routines run an hour early suddenly. No changes from my side and everything checks out. Problem has been around since at least 2018 from my research. It’s 2020 now and no responses from Google to people asking about this. The user experience is amateur. There is no way to jump to a room. You have to scroll down each time. I have a fair few rooms and it’s tedious for sure. Make a grid like security cam viewers have. If you add 10 lights you can’t do a multi select of all 10 and assign to a room. No, it has to be done 1 at a time. I could go on, but this is like one of those apps written by the most inexperienced programmer on the team. It just smacks of inexperience. I wonder if the staff of Google actually use it? Surely, they would find this unacceptable..Version: 2.32.111

Google home is great for alarms a little frustratingI find the app display really unintuitive to navigate. Settings in weird places. Headings not necessarily intuitive for what they include. Also the format is very spread out, spacey and not particularly easy on the eye. Everything works pretty well though I find my google home struggles with making assumptions about certain song requests and is quick to jump to conclusions and pull up the wrong song. For instance I might say “Hey google, play all eyes on me(song only) by Bo Burnham” and it will play “All eyez on me” the Tupac album. Otherwise everything works great and the speaker is phenomenal quality for its price. Would be nice if you could unplug it and use battery power sometimes..Version: 3.13.105

Takes 10+ seconds to notify or not at allIt setup ok however in using it will take longer than 10seconds to notify if it notifies at all. This is currently not fit for purpose! I’ve followed all the advice online and nothing fixes how slow this is. Even when someone presses the doorbell it takes forever or just doesn’t notify.Version: 2.46.106

Work good butCan’t remove devices that not mine nor it connects to my devices because it say it can’t connect but the net is working fine and my other apps works fine with it except google home..Version: 3.9.104

Unable to change time of night modeEverything else is great! But it’s such a pain that every IOS device is unable to change the time of night mode. There‘a no way to adjust the time when you’ve chosen the setting to change. Such a pain, especially since the display is way too bright on my smart clock to be used in a bedroom..Version: 2.32.111

Bad app for such a big companyWhy oh why do I now need 2 apps to use my nest system, the whole idea of buying it was to have everything in one app, I need the nest app for my smoke alarms as this app doesn’t show them, and I can’t use the nest app for my new wireless doorbell, as it only works in this app. What a strange decision Google. Also when streaming back through history the app is now so buggy and only jumps into live video when it feels like it, very disappointed. I’ll leave my review on nest app as well. Also not everyone wants to use Google home I much preferred the nest app. It was simple to use but now I’m forced to use this app just because I bought a wireless doorbell. ☹️☹️.Version: 2.50.105

Great BUTWhen changing WiFi settings it’s a nightmare! The instructions could be simplified but seem difficult for the sake of it! Some instructions it gives for this task are impossible to perform due to the tabs not being available! Bluetooth connection isn’t always working even when in range. Giving instructions when music is playing requires VERY loud shouting which often results in having to physically picking up the device to stop it and google isn’t able to pick up on difficult words or names of singers! Considering buying Alexa. Why google mini doesn’t have a cordless facility with battery back up is beyond me, in modern times I’d have thought that was a given, was quite disappointed from day one that it doesn’t!.Version: 1.30.114

Update neededIt seems that despite several bad reviews, there is nobody in charge to try sort out the problems reported. The app could be good if all the bugs would be fixed, obviously. The location services need to be updated, since they make the “home” and “away” routines totally useless. You need to switch from one to the other either manually using the app or giving to the assistant a voice command. That’s quite far from the “automation” you expect from such a technological company. Also the possibility to customise the routines would be a nice improvement. When I’m home I could be happy to get my curtains open, my music played and my lights on, but if I’m back home during the day I could not want my lights on, and that’s something possible so far with apps like “Smart Things”, but surprisingly not with the Google one! Unfortunately it seems that when the market doesn’t offer too many choices the companies totally forget about the customers. It’s probably better to start trying Alexa….Version: 2.47.111

JunkIt’s a pain to set up. Requests all kind of permission to do nothing at the end. Junk..Version: 2.23.112

DisappointingThis app although sporting a nice layout is beyond frustrating. I have two Google nest minis which I received from my mobile Phone provider as a gift. I should have declined the offer! Set-up is easy enough to navigate, but time and again these nest mini devices drop out and stop responding so I am forced to factory reset and do the whole dance again and again. Menu after menu of settings to tweak and they always seem to double up the same controls or settings info and scatter it across the app in odd spots. I set it up, functions ok. I do not use these devices daily for chit chat or performing tasks via assistant. I simply want the speakers paired and ready to play music when required. But the time the mood strikes to stream some music the connection has inevitably crumbled again and I receive the dreaded “sorry something went wrong message yet again”. It takes all my self control not to hurl these Google devices at a wall!!!! The software continues to show the now bricked devices in the list with no way of deleting them as it can’t find them. So I delete the app reset the devices and install as new. For a technology super power Google’s Home app, along with these useless home assistant devices seem to be laughable at best. So you can basically track where I am any time you like but you can’t find your own devices in my living room?.Version: 2.44.105

Have an integration issue with LG SmartThinqEvery time I tried to link LG SmartThinq from the Add Devices menu, it says 'LG SmartThinq' is linked, then after couple of colourful rounds, it says 'Something went wrong. Try again later.' I keep trying and never get it working. Another's downside is we need to be connected on the same Wi-Fi in order to access the Google Home device (i.e. the Google smart speaker).Version: 2.12.508

The home that never connectsAt first Google home was amazing. It was reliable and my music subscription would always work. However, a few months ago something happened. I’m not sure if it was a new update or the introduction of an additional google home, but everything started failing. At first it started with my music subscription. On occasion it would disconnect and I would either get a notification that too many people are in the account or the music would just stop without explanation. The issues progressed to connectivity. Now my app was not able to discover one of my two google homes. The device was constantly “out of range” or “not on the same network” but in reality it was just the apps inability to establish connection. I went through the motions of resetting my network, resetting my devices and even starting fresh and deleting my google home and recreating it. Nothing worked. Creating a new home in the app made thins particularly bad because now the app doesn’t discover any of my google home devices and my music accounts will no longer sync. The device have turned into nothing more than glorified Bluetooth speakers and that only when the Bluetooth function decides to work. All in all this started off great and I was super excited about being able to create a mesh network of speakers in my home. However once I started experiencing issues there had not been a solution and the troubleshooting attempted have all been extremely time consuming..Version: 2.49.106

Used to be goodThis app used to be absolutely amazing, but as of recently with all the updates, it simply does not function the way you used to. I’m unable to view my cameras it’s constantly freezing..Version: 2.66.106

No Access to ListsI don’t know why this remains such an issue. ADD A BUTTON THAT GOES TO THE SHOPPING LIST. NAVIGATING THROUGH 14 MENUS TO GET TO IT IS NOT OK. I don’t even know how to get to the f’in list after the latest update. No idea. I should NOT have to search online for how to find my shopping list. IT DOESN'T WORK TO SYNC TO KEEP. I DON’T KNOW HOW SUCH A BASIC AND FUNDAMENTAL FEATURE HAS TO BE SO CONVOLUTED TO ACCESS. Does anyone on the Google product team actually even use Google Home? Do they understand how ridiculous it is that there is no easy way to access the shopping list?.Version: 3.7.103

Google home keeps falling shortCompared to Alexa: (1) home hub doesn’t show the time at night (the “ambient light sensor” turns the screen 100% black) (2) can’t call a specific room (3) can’t play a song without blabbering for a minute about every artist and service involved (4) can’t set family reminders that go off for everyone (5) the hub devices can’t hear anyone speak well (6) google can’t play popular songs like the Lion King (featured in their own commercials) without manual intervention otherwise they play knockoffs (7) will only play white noise for an hour unless specified (8) don’t have a quiet mode so if you ask something at night have to listen to it scream across your house nonsense like “this is what white noise sounds like” (9) assistant only sometimes connects to the devices and when it does it can’t even perform the same tasks (eg play white noise) (10) Hub doesn’t display the time if the hub is doing anything besides nothing which makes it a terrible bedside device -even white noise turns off the clock which is stupid by every measure.Version: 2.8.107

TerriblePlease reconsider chromecast gen 1 and maybe create a new update to remove bugs and make it smoother. I also can’t seem to pair my chromecast with my iPhone as it keeps on saying that it might be set up but it couldn’t communicate with your iPhone. I would be happy if you could fix..Version: 2.40.104

Nowhere as useful as the Alexa app! So frustrating. No ability to use the app the see what’s been playing on speakers lately. No ability to play music or a station from the app to a speaker or speaker group. Setting up speaker groups is easy enough but getting the ai to actually play to a specific group is frustratingly hard / impossible some days. With Alexa I can go into the app and teach the ai what was incorrect when translating voice commands - no such capability here. Renaming speaker groups is hit and miss. Changing the internet password requires all speakers to be re-programmed instead of simply entering the new password into the app. And re-programming isn’t simply changing the password, each speaker needs to go through a lengthy setup requiring ten minutes each. So for five speakers it’s an hour by the time your done, just to change a password or network. I’ve been using the Google ai with this app for three weeks now and if I could swap for Alexa, I’d do it in a heartbeat but unfortunately, the rooms have google mini speakers built into the ceilings..Version: 3.2.104

SO DISAPPOINTED- go back to the old Nest app!!!!This app is terrible. I have been a Nest customer for years. Forcing migration to this app is fine but the layout is absolutely awful. Forcing customers with older products into new products because of the lack in features from the old app to this one is seriously enough to make me want to invest in something else! I own a oldschool dropcam, a new battery cam, doorbell, thermostat, and thermostat sensor. I also subscribe to membership monthly for video history. I’m telling you I’m really disappointed in this app. You can’t view all cameras in one feed (have to click on one by one individually), you can’t access settings for doorbell (ie. bandwidth preference, alerts, etc), no ability to customize thermostat schedule, and on the old app once you click on the camera from the live feed (OF ALL CAMERAS AT ONCE), it displays screenshots of every motion/sound alert so you can easily scroll through the “events” for the day. If you have an old camera, you won’t be able to see history without clicking on a ton of buttons. Yet, I purchase the new battery cam and I CAN view history easily with a timeline feed?? I could go on about my disappointment in Google for the lack of care in this app compared to the old..Version: 2.46.106

Youtube on google homeWhy do i need to have youtube premium if i want google home to play songs from youtube?.Version: 2.6.113

No more pause for Wi-FiI come to this app after a forced migration from the Google Wi-Fi app. Over time I’ve discovered that some of the features we had relied upon do not work in Home. Pausing shows as on and shows the devices paused but the affected devices still work as normal - this issue alone could force me to buy alternative routers and move away from Google. Apparently the solution is to use a guest network rather than Google fixing the issue. Other issues are a lack of notifications when the network goes down and an unintuitive interface to actually get to the features like setting up schedules (which don’t work when enabled). I was a happy customer of Google Wi-Fi but Google has a long time history of dropping services I use - if they’re not concerned with fixing it, what choice am I left with but to switch?.Version: 2.47.111

DisappointedThe overall app experience is great but there are small things that yes are only minute problems, but cause significant pain for myself. 1. Since iOS 17 public beta 1 came out I could not click into the gif notifications when an event has been recorded on my Google cameras. This is extremely annoying as I use that feature heavily to decide whether to open the feed inside the app to see what’s going on. All that shows up when you hold on the notification is a black background with a play button and line through it. 2. I have a extremely fast internet connection at home, all camera are within a reasonable distance and I am trying to view on either the home wifi or a 4G/5G connection but it takes an extremely long time to load any of the camera feeds, and then most if not all times it says there is an error. Why in the day and age of 2023 can I not easily stream a camera to my phone? I have friends in very similar internet connection circumstances then me with Arlo and Eufy cameras and they do not have this problem? Why can google cams not handle a simple stream?.Version: 3.6.104

RoutinesSeems people are having numerous problems with the routines button disappearing after first setup including myself. There does not appear to be a fix for this considering the number of complaints. This is very poor and I wish I’d never purchased the product..Version: 2.31.112

Great hardware let down by this truly awful appShockingly bad app. It’s a couple of years since Google bought Nest and the Nest app is still light years of anything Google has produced. The latest generation battery Nest cameras are great products from a hardware perspective but the app experience renders them pretty much useless. There are third party products that allow you to divorce the cameras from this stinker of an app but they require to use the cameras with a mains connection, thereby losing their best feature. It’s clear that Google bought nest to get a foot in the home management market but has no clear strategy for developing it. Such a shame….Version: 2.50.105

Lame, not even trying app developersNest app you can save any part of the camera recording as a clip locally. Google Home you can only save if there is an event detected even if paying for full-time recording. Hardly useful when you've been burgled and the camera doesn't catch the movement or you want some 'background history' or added details to the clip. So instead of easily selecting start/end of the saved clip, I have to play the video in Home and use my phone's screen capture recording to get the results necessary. From the help page: You can only create video clips from detected events in the video history. You can’t create video clips from footage with no activity..Version: 2.47.111

The recent update is terrible! The app now does not recognise when my smart lights are on or off, could not connect to devices when switched on, not even the google dot. The interface is also not as intuitive - why do we need to go into a secondary menu to access changes for example colour/ brightness of the lights when they are already grouped in a group? They are grouped because people want to control them as one, so functional controls as a group should be in the first menu and list of individual devices the second. The previous app version is a lot more logical. I wonder who/what changed?.Version: 3.2.104

A Step Backward in Smart Home IntegrationAs a long-time user of Nest cams, the transition to the Google Home app has been nothing short of disappointing. The integration has forced me to use an app that not only falls short in features compared to the original Nest app but also proves inadequate in its basic functionalities. Alerts vanish before I have the chance to view them, and when I attempt to access a camera display through an alert, I’m greeted with a black screen instead of the live feed I expected. Viewing cameras live, a previously seamless experience, has become a chore. Attempting to review the past 24-hour content feels like navigating through a labyrinth, devoid of the user-friendly interface we were accustomed to with the Nest app. It’s bewildering that Google decided to phase out an app that was clearly superior in favor of forcing users to adapt to an inferior, less intuitive platform. This transition feels like a step backward, undermining the very essence of what made Nest cams so appealing. Google, I urge you to consider the feedback from your loyal user base and work towards an app that not only matches but surpasses the functionality and ease of use that the Nest app provided. Until then, users like myself are left with a diminished experience that falls short of the standard we’ve come to expect..Version: 3.15.104

The reason updateThe most reason update doesn’t allow notifications, despite this being enabled in Settings, the options list is actually blank on Settings > Notifications > Google Home and only allows “Critical Alerts” for notifications , despite this, no notifications push through to my phone nor am I able to “Find my phone” with Google anymore. All other features work as intended, but since the update, no notifications work at all and always get told by Google to “Enable these on the app” despite being enabled in-app and my iOS settings….Version: 3.7.103

Home Mini volume changes randomlyI have Home Mini speakers in both of my young children’s rooms. I play calm, quiet sleep music all night for them. I specifically and deliberately set the volume to 40-50% depending on the playlist. For months, more and more frequently I’ll notice in the middle of the night (around midnight, weirdly) the volume on both of their speakers will completely randomly shoot up to 100%. I have no idea why it’s happening, but it’s the most infuriating quirk about these speakers. I noticed my youngest tends to wake up every single night around midnight, and this has got to be why. A while back I thought I fixed it setting Night Mode from 7p-7a supposedly limiting volume to 40%, yet just 15 min ago my child woke up so I went in and the speaker was ABSOLUTELY BLARING. My child is crying awake and now scared. I am so mad at this product. What kind of a weird glitch could this be? Almost seems intentional how routinely this happens. If it weren’t for my children’s sake I wouldn’t be so upset about it, but it’s like someone is intentionally making these speakers blare in the dead middle of the night. Unbelievable. Please make a setting that ACTUALLY prevents speakers from changing volume at night. PLEASE FIX THIS!.Version: 3.0.111

The new update made it so I can’t even connect to my chromecast. The new app doesn’t even find my chromecast anymore. What’s the point of redesigning an app if it then starts not working for your main product.Version: 2.6.113

Nest Camera UI/UX needs serious work :(Google acquired Nest a couple of years back. If you log into the Nest website or use the original Nest app it accomplishes to do what the current Google Home app doesn’t: deliver a quick and snappy interface with 99% of the functionality that any user would want. You want to save a clip? Easy; slide the section of timeline and save it, upload it to social media, or even download it to your device. The sliding timeline interface is amazingly quick and snappy. Great app! This app leaves a lot to be desired. If you want to save a clip you’re forced to do either of two things: hope the AI is able to tag the event properly and at the perfect time OR fork over the 15+ bucks a month for the 24/7 recording and Screen Record the video off a device. The old functionality from Nest is nonexistent. I’m writing this review because someone suspicious drove into my property and the AI failed to tag it correctly. I suspected this was gonna happen so thankfully I had already paid for the 24/7 recording and screen recorded off my iPad. For a multinational corporation to buy a company/product, revamp the product line, and then not do a 1:1 product feature release is bonkers in this day and age..Version: 3.9.104

Severely lacking, poor integration with Nest productsI like the idea of having all my google products in one app but the execution is poor. I have a few Nest products since we loved them at our last house and decided to get newer ones when we moved into our new place. However, the Nest Protects are in their own separate app for some reason and in the Google Home app they’re labeled as inactive when they are indeed active and working fine. Despite excellent wifi (Fios, using Google Wifi, 3 points of mesh network in a 2300 sq ft house) the app lags a LOT. For example I’ll get notifications there’s someone at my house so I go to check the app and… it just spins and spins and spins. I did not have this problem with cameras and doorbells not loading when they were on the Nest app. When we had the Nest app for all our products I could even look them up on the desktop which was helpful since I have an iPhone mini, without that desktop feature I can’t even check the videos on there if the app decides it’s going to have a 30-60+ sec lag if it ever does decide to load at all..Version: 3.6.104

Nest quit working a couple days agoEvery time I ask google to do something it keeps saying there was a glitch. Restarting, unplugging doesn’t help. The app won’t load any of my settings. It’s a miracle when it decides to listen once in a while. Not to mention -when it does work- asking google for 10% volume and it immediately blasting 100% at 2am. Every. Single. Time. help.Version: 3.11.104

Love Hate relationshipI love all the ideas that sit within my Google hone app but the fact that it mistakes still my daughters voice for mine and can’t use either to add things to shopping lists and follow routines I’ve set up makes me angry! Why have these things if they don’t work . Signed a Google fan.Version: 2.32.111

Everything was fine but now it’s broken? All my devices are showing as offline when they’re not. This started happening after updating. What a mess..Version: 2.56.107

Additional CamerasI purchased 3 floodlight cameras to add to my Google home. I have a google doorbell camera. I installed the first floodlight camera but could not get it to connect to the google home app. After several hours of trying and watching Utube videos I decided to create a new Home with different address in the Google Home app. Camera and floodlights connected first attempt. I can use the camera and lights, but have to switch between homes in the app to go from doorbell to floodlight camera. I have two more floodlight cameras to install but do not want to if I have to invent two new homes in my app to use them. VERY DISAPPOINTED. These floodlight camera are more expensive than the competitors. Thinking google should take all their devices back give me a refund and I can buy ring or Eufy.Version: 2.49.106

Their should be a “standard” to technology.Been a tech person for decades. Worked in it, did it and sold it. As a business partner to tech it’s always nice to see what is coming down the pipe to consumer land. The Lenovo Smart Display 0148 has got to be recalled. It was gifted to our home during lockdown as a way for our families to stay connected via video chat with a difference. It was a novelty at best. This device and OS is of the lowest standard to defective tolerance I have seen in tech. It’s outside of warranty which is a farce, don’t get me started. This device works for about 24 hours in any given week. It blanks out (shuts down) when it wants to. Takes a day to load / start up when I. have to hard reset it. Now it’s asking to be set up via the Application software on my phone, which is hit and miss 6 out of 10 times on failing to recognise the wifi, the device - your choice. Will be shopping this weekend for another smart home display device and will steer clear of anything Google/Lenovo..Version: 2.44.105

Extremely disappointingI've only had chrome cast for the last 2 weeks and I have already started having problems not being able to cast and view programmes. Very disappointed. These problems should of been sorted, prior to customers paying for a half baked device??? Come on google you should know better than that!!!.Version: 1.25.1223

Absolutely glitching gadgetsAfter couple of years of using Googles Home gadgets I still trying to understand the way they work. Speakers - your Mac literally wouldn’t see them in Bluetooth list. And, you can buy as many as you can speakers from Google, link them on one sound system, but remember, you won’t be able to play the music from your iPhone/iPad/Mac on all of this speakers, but just only on one of them, which is stupid. Google Nest Hub - extremely slow “tablet”, after iPad you will feel seek of how slow this screen works. Don’t understand how it’s even possible to make such primitive tablets this time. Music in general - even after linking your Apple Music account you won’t be able to see the app on your Google Nest Hub, only the way you can play your music from Apple Music it’s just ask Hey Google… but no way to choose the album, playlist etc from your Apple Music using screen. So, typical Google - stupid, slow-working gadgets which are working in absolutely non-logical and not user-friendly way. Al I want to do - just grab all this Google Home gadgets scrap and bring it to the Googles front door. Just commit suicide from this sphere, and stop torturing people with your dumb illogical service and extremely glitching gadgets..Version: 3.6.104

Doesn’t stay connected for more than a dayI have to factory reset my devices each time I want to use them. I go to my living room and can’t stream anything, have to spend 15 minutes resetting it because it doesn’t successfully pair the first try. Same thing for the bedroom. I don’t understand why this is such a consistent issue but I’m about to just be done with them and find another casting device..Version: 2.37.107

Use some common senseYou have to wonder who the thick head designer was that thought it a good idea for the google assistant to speak error messages back when it finds a problem rather than have text appear on screen. I have a lights out routine I use last thing at night and the last thing I want is for the entire house to be woken up just because Google Assistant starts blaring out that there is a problem with a device. FFS I typed the command in - I expect a typed response - if I talk to the assistant then use voice replies. Use some common sense Google !!!.Version: 2.50.105

TerribleDo not download this app don't get a Google Home it is absolutely terrible the last few weeks crashing nonstop of course there's numerous people posting it online but Google keeps hiding the reviews and the problems people are posting.Version: 3.11.104

Average UI, poorly designed...Whilst I appreciate Google like to design things with minimal aesthetic, this is one app that needs an overhaul on the UI. It's boring and really not user friendly in comparison to the native Nest app I used my older cameras for. When I open a camera the volume by default goes to full on my iPhone, it's far too loud, ideal default volume would be 1/3 or 1/4 of the iPhones volume capacity from its loud speaker. The UI of the camera history is really poor, again when compared to the Nest app. Google, if you are listening, please overhaul Google Home and give it the Nest aesthetic which is not only more appealing, but also far more user friendly!.Version: 3.0.111

Hey GoogleDue to the poor reach of my Virgin Wi-Fi box I decided to buy Google Wi-Fi, to set up Google Wi-Fi you have to use the Google Home app, which was fine with me as I already had a couple of Google speakers. Though used the app to set up the speakers I never really begin to properly use it until I got Google Wi-Fi and in all honesty, though functional, the app is a poorly designed confusing mess. For starters one big bear of mine is the fact that you cannot set an alarm on your speaker from to the app which is insane, to not include such a basic function that the other speakers from other companies have. The biggest disappointment is the design overall, I use other Google designed services for work and home and such and services such as Docs, Photos and Drive are wonderful in their functionality and simplicity whilst still packing in all the features and more of the other players, the Wi-Fi app by comparison is atrocious and I hope that at some point an overhaul of its design is implemented..Version: 2.48.106

Drops Bluetooth connectionI just purchased my google home. It drops connection with my iPhone X frequently. I did some research on internet and I found that it’s a common problem with iPhone for google home. It’s so frustrating. I can’t play songs with my iPhone. And they didn’t add iTunes. If it has iTunes I could play my playlists with that. I hope they will add itunes or do something else for iPhone users..Version: 2.23.112

Very Poor ExperienceAround a couple of moths back, it took me almost an hour to find an option to grant access to share and control my devices with someone else. The option was lying under an unintuitive title probably WELLBEING or so. Again, when I really wished to use that option the “settings” options were changed as the new update brought a major change in UI. So, it was really disgusting and annoying to look and find the options one may need. Smartlife gave me much better experience though. Everything, creating the home, room, and managing the devices was intuitive. I wish Google Home had learnt something from third party apps, too!.Version: 3.3.104

Sucks BallzOptions that Google say are there are not..Version: 2.32.111

It’s great but…The app has some major advantages over its competitors which is nice to see a change of pace but it’s not without its shortcomings, this app allows for a wide variety of products to use and sync with virtually no cost other then an assistant and the product itself but that’s to say how other more costly products are not so useable with this interface and the app is very restrictive when it comes to customization. I’ve written reviews for a few smart home interfaces and just would wish to see more connectivity among my products and services instead of having to result to expensive complex hubs and servers and huge data work which if your not a computer programmer is almost impossible to get into I wish the rivalry between companies would end and focus on bettering their own systems instead of blocking each other out I wish it was up to the consumer to be able to choose and build their ecosystem how they choose and not what the customer can afford and knowledge capacity allows for..Version: 2.67.102

Wifi connectionI’ve been trying to connect my chrome cast to my phone but it keeps saying wifi can’t be found. And I know my wifis fine because I haven’t moved my chromecast anywhere and it was working fine not long ago. And I’ve reset it plenty. So im guessing it’s the app, since it did update not too long ago right before my chromecast stopped working..Version: 2.43.111

Wants ALL your dataI’ve had a Chromecast for years. Just had to change wifi networks and there’s no longer any choice but to use the Google Home app. I’ve tried to avoid using Google Home until now as I value my privacy. In order to change wifi networks Google FORCED me to use the Home app and REQUIRED me to link Chromecast and my email to the app. It also REQUIRED my location data, and REQUESTED my physical home address and where in my house the Chromecast is located. This is CREEPY and UNNECESSARY..Version: 2.25.105

GOOGLE IS A JOKEI don’t know what it is anymore and i’m going crazy literally crazy trouble shooting for hours a day just so i can watch tv. My chrome cast has never really had issues over the years but Then 2023 happened. My chrome cast disconnects from my wifi constantly and i’m talking 5-10 times a day it’s actually ridiculous. So i try all the typical restarting my router, my modem, factory reset the chrome cast. I contacted my internet company to see what was wrong with my wifi they said nothing but i didn’t believe them so i got a new router and modem and we were working again!! for about a day…. then the cycle started again. I have even tried to creating its own personal ip address because i thought my routers ip may have blocked the chrome cast due to unstable network and not even that worked and that always works. So today i have come to the conclusion that the chrome cast was and is a waste of money do not do it to yourself your sanity is more important. if i could post this review with zero stars i would but i can’t so at least they get a star for existing. Going to get my new roku today!!.Version: 2.63.110

Basically this is Beta it’s direI’ve been using this app for about 6 months and it’s appalling. Maybe it’s because I usually use Apple products so expect things to just work? This doesn’t. It feels like something produced for a school project. What the app does do consistently is lose speakers and devices from the network. It’s fine with my Hive rads and lights. But anything made by Google just doesn’t work reliably. I have 8 speakers and a doorbell. The app never accurately reflect the status of all the speakers, some, but not all. When a speaker is playing it says it isn’t, when you select Media it shows nothing as playing, when the radio is already on in all rooms! Speaker groups work intermittently and radio may or may not play to the chosen group. My Mesh WiFi is excellent and strong in all corners of the house, and every other smart home product that isn’t produced by Google works fine. I have spent hours following the hopeless Google advice & guidance. Used their hopeless support line (a call centre where they read from a script telling you to do what you’ve been doing for the past 3 hours). All in all I would avoid Google’s shoddy overpriced products. Because you have to use this glitchy unfinished beta app for everything. They really need to just stick to being a search engine..Version: 3.1.108

Poor updateThe most recent update has caused inability to connect with both Chromecast devices in the house (the only reason I have this app). Both Chromecast are connected to TV fine however we have no option available on devices to connect to the Chromecast. I’ve tried uninstalling both this app and the streaming apps, restarting phones, doing all updates etc..Version: 2.35.109

Difficulty in listening to radioI have a number of Google homes Nest Mini’s and displays in my house. However recently I discovered that I can no longer listen to Sky News Australia since it was removed from I❤️Radio to the Nova App player. Is there a special command I now need to use? Also why is it that I cannot set a radio alarm on my Google Nest Display? If I ask Google to play a radio alarm on this Google device it just says “I can’t do that yet” surely this could be fixed with a software update as my other Google smart speakers has always been able to do this..Version: 3.4.103

FrustratingI have a Google nest mini, home max, multiple chromecast & nest hub max. I use it in conjunction with LIFX tiles, beam, bulbs, led strips (multiple) and Iv synced our swan security cameras with the Home app too. The swan security video has never really cooperated properly and would only cast to a TV or the nest hub max if you posits till it will finally cast to selected device. The LIFX lights work most of the time but cooks out every now and then. The nest mini constantly has internet connection issues to the point I have to reset the speaker (and it’s a nightmare) and it will work for a few days then repeat the issue no matter where in the home it’s positioned. The home max and nest hub max work reasonably well so far but when playing music to a speaker group I used to be able to control the volume and skip via the app but not anymore. It shows nothing playing even tho there is.. and it will play a few songs then randomly pause music till you request music on the speaker group again. Iv reset all devices and reinstalled/synced with the home app again but still not working properly..Version: 2.32.111

Very confusing and annoyingIt’s too confusing to use, it sometimes stops working cause of the wifi it’s connected to but then i dont know how to connect it to a different wifi and it’s no help that it doesn’t show you how to do that so I always delete the home thing and reconnect it the long way, 10/10 would not recommend.Version: 2.14.109

Not workingI’ve used this for a long time and no problems. (Well over a year) suddenly today I can’t cast Netflix or Disney to the TV. It shows the ambient screen but won’t detect my wifi even though there’s no wifi issues. I have restarted and rebooted countless times. Please update the app..Version: 2.45.106

Not goodHistory I bought two Nest Protects all worked fine and still does, however Google took over Nest and later I needed to remove my devices for battery replacement. After it was very difficult to get them back on my network due to the changes Google brought and added complexity. I ended up with a New Home with much of the same details, same address. So to date I now want to remove my unused home which I renamed however the rename does not show in this App. Should I take pot luck and delete one of them hoping its the right one. If I delete the wrong one I have to setup my devices again…. Not easy. Or possibly I should flatten all and start again. The 10 year life of the Nest Protects is nearly done and I will not be replacing them to avoid the un needed intrusion and complexity brought by Google and this App..Version: 3.0.111

Doesn’t work with ios13Update your app, you cannot set-up anything since iOS 13..Version: 2.14.109

Linking services hasn’t worked for agesGoogle Home can’t seem to resolve an issue with 3rd party devices and software. The wifi lights I have are all Mirabella Genio lights. When I first got them I downloaded the Mirabella app, setup account info, connected the devices etc then went to Google Home to link them. It worked and all was good. Then my google nest mini lost wifi connection and wouldn’t reconnect without dropping out shortly after. I reset the nest mini, deleted and reinstalled Google Home, tried to reinstall everything again but could only connect the Chrome sticks I have. It wouldn’t connect back to the lights or continue its “linked services” connection. When trying to delink again via Google home app it confirms that it has but can’t/won’t load the next section showing the devices details. For the last several months I’ve been using Mirabella Genios app to run the devices which is not how I ever intended to run them. The entire point was to use voice commands and live a life of convenience. instead I’ve just been frustratedAnd disappointed by the Google home app.Version: 2.30.123

Incredibly buggyOriginally very good but over time this app has become a challenge to use. It stops connecting with linked devices and attempts to reconnect simply generates errors that say “try again” although the error continues indefinitely. The app has potential but how about debugging it first!!.Version: 2.60.118

Smartest computer company in the world with the dumbest app I’ve ever seenHey, I’ve got an idea let’s make an app to monitor home cameras, but anyone who has access to these cameras can change ownership of the cameras, and lock others out, no matter what there role in the household is. Seriously if you want anyone in your house to watch these cameras, or have access to them, they have admin level access, there is no other option. They are then able to delete everyone else’s access. It is beyond stupid and shortsighted. What are you guys thinking at google ?!? Hey, guess what if you want to change the password on your Wi-Fi net work you are now required to reprogram every single one of your cameras individually by powering it off at the actual camera and resetting it, which I still have yet to figure out how to do. I’m a novice with electronics, but this is the dumbest system I’ve ever seen that is two major stripes on the Google Home like I can’t imagine this thing being any worse than it is. Who the heck is running this app? It’s a good thing they bought 30% of AT&T because now the same security system I’ve always had is technologically being run into the ground by foolishness..Version: 3.2.104

Doesn’t work properly on iOS 15Cannot add new devices such as WiFi points to an existing Home account, and cannot change the name for that Home account when using the app on iOS 15. Developers need to get ahead of these bugs..Version: 2.45.106

Google Home AppThe Google home App worked fine until I had a Feit smart plug go bad. The only way I could remove it was to unlink Feit which would delete every Feit device connected to Google home. I had multiple devices installed and would have to reinstall all of them. I search the internet in vain trying to find out how to delete a single device. In the help I just says to select the device and the select settings and then remove device, but there is no option in settings to remove a device. I removed the device from the Feit App, but it still showed up in Google home. I finally created a new home transferred the Feit plug and and deleted the new home. Now I have duplicates of all my rooms and devices in my original home. What a mess no smart home App should be deployed without a method to remove a device that is no longer needed or no longer working. I am seriously thinking of moving Amazon’s or some other smart home App. What a total waste of money!!!!!.Version: 2.62.115

Connectivity issuesI’ve had this speaker for quite a while and haven had no issues until now when my speaker disconnected to my wifi and now I cant connect it back up again. I tried removing my device and connecting it again to the app but now it won’t even let me do that. Is there any way to fix this?.Version: 2.19.115

Violation of child privacy a real concernI bought the Google Home for a convenient and fun way to stay connected and try something new. Only after using it for two days did it dawn on me that everything my 5 year old was saying to it was being recorded and stored on Google servers. He loved it. “Hi Google” could have gone on for hours if I let it. I work in software development and decided to look further into where things stand with smart speakers and Child Online Privacy and Protection - COPPA (including the collection of children’s personal information, audio, video and images). Bottom line - I couldn’t find anything addressing it. Some concerns have been raised that might lead to legal action at some point, I also saw articles alluding to future patents that could make the listening tech even more invasive. Imagine ads targeting your kids based on conversations you’ve had with them at dinner. These have somehow been sold into millions of homes with a loophole. For now I decided retire the Google Home. I deleted the multiple voice recordings of my son that had been stored via the Google Home app and can only hope that they are permanently gone from Google servers too..Version: 1.26.810

Amusing gadget, that's allWe were given this hamburger-sized HAL as a gift from a tech-savvy, tattooed twenty-something, who was anxious for our souls. After a week of shouting 'Hey Google!' at it about once every two hours, when we could think of something to ask, we got a notice from our ISP to say our data use had gone through the roof. The little rascal seems to gobble bits just by sitting there ear-wigging. We pulled the plug, and only reinsert it when our well-meaning, inked friend visits. She tells us her homebound mother depends on the apparatus to tell her the day's weather, but since her mother never goes anywhere, including her own balcony, we don't quite see the need. The Google device is useless for serious research, which is my profession. I need to see, study, examine, review, bookmark, download, save; not merely hear. We don't stream music, or watch movies, or TV, and we sure as eggs ain't gamers. Even our cyber-aware sons and their phone-tethered wives mostly leave their Big Brother Google oracle sulking in a corner unconsulted. So at present, the little grey clamshell in its basket-weave jacket is unused, and as far as we are concerned, virtually useless..Version: 2.9.118

Crashing AppIt is constantly Crashing while using it. Not Customer Friendly. Best app is better in terms of usage. Quality of video in both are good no issues with quality..Version: 3.10.103

Just okay.. There is a lot of room for improvement.TLDR[[ things that could be improved (simplier/intuitive menu, reorder/hide roommates devices that i don't want/need to see, so the ones i actually use aren't at the bottom) ]] this review started because i'm having to keep factory resetting my smart speaker so it shows up in my new office and not my bedroom at my old house) i've used this app with google products (speakers, mesh networks, chromecast, etc) for over a year now. I spend more time googling how to move devices/troubleshoot connection problems, etc than i would like. this is especially true since i moved into a new home with other users who have their own devices. i'm constantly paranoid about turning on my roommates lights off or on when they're sleeping because i can't hide their devices or even reorder them so they're bot at the top. the menu options are spread too thin, across too much menu. it's hard to find the function that i want, but you cam only do one or two things for a device in a certain menu. just put it all in one with a '...' for the less commonly needed functions. 😒😤.Version: 2.37.107

Nest integration is horribleSo the integration with Nest is horrible. The feature to set up sound detection for Nest Aware worked ok, but now that option is missing under settings. I wasted 2.5 hours with chat support, passed between 6 people . They had me try all sorts of things that could not have anything to do with the app not having the option. I asked to be escalated to a supervisor and always got the run around that I just needed to try a few things more first. I asked for the case to be escalated at least 10 times. When “Wendy” asked me to go borrow a phone from someone and test on it, I lost it . When she asked me to send a screenshot of my account info, which has personal identifying information, I finally ended the chat. If you are not in the Google echo system and expect their Nest products to work with their Google Home products, run away quick. If you expect any sort of functional support for their products, run away quick. I would strongly suggest avoiding Google for your smart home solution. They are definitely a monopoly who could care less about their customers..Version: 2.32.111

Loved this app until Broadcast changedThis app was awesome until Google changed the broadcast feature. Being in a large household, I could broadcast my voice on all speakers and people would reply with their voice. Now though, Google uses it own AI voice to replace my own and everyone else’s, so I never know now who is actually replying to the message because all of the AI voices are the same. I wish Google would fix that glitch and when a broadcast is made to all speakers. It broadcasts the users voice and not the AI one..Version: 3.9.104

Merging Google WiFi app features done very poorly!!This WAS a good app, and the Google WiFi app WAS a good app for managing your Google Nest router’s network settings - like DHCP Reservations, and Port Forwarding (something many home users who work with networks or software / product development DO OFTEN use and require). Combining the two apps has been a disaster so far! Editing DHCP Reservations is more painful than pulling teeth on a toothless fish, and editing Port Forwarding is similar! To the point that I’m considering entirely ditching the Google Nest stuff and going to something that actually makes these features more usable and accessible. I’m hoping with updates with app will bring back ease of use, because whoever wrote that part must’ve been under the pump and not had any time to pay attention to usability (like even sorting the Port Forwarding rules, or DHCP Reservations in SOME sort of usable order, and not putting the big + button at the bottom over the top of the list so I can never get to the Delete button for the last item in my DHCP Reservations list. PLEASE fix this horrible and almost unusable interface, otherwise I will definitely be ditching Google network products. Sorry for such a negative review, but I’m actually shocked this was let out SO unfinished, and the Google WiFi app was shut down, so we can’t even continue using that!.Version: 2.44.105

Change of UI in may 2023 worse than older 2022 UI no option to change back worse than iOSNovember 2023; now the google home crashes on iOS and makes the apple device go back to lock screen and fails to load or playback👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Change of UI in may 2023 worse than older UI no option to change back worse than iOS redesign from scratch by google home, no way to revert .. not a theme, not what we paid for in 2023. Linked devices showing offlineWhat’s going on with this app, linked devices are showing offline even though they are connected to internet and working fine, have reached to support multiple times they are saying leave a feedback on App Store and engineering team might fix in the next release, this is unacceptable from a company like Google, please fix the Home App ASAP.Version: 2.56.107

DreadfulThis device is dreadful. It constantly wants me to view the app. I want to be able to set notes and then to be able to hear the notes I have set. I want to be able to set lists and then to be able to hear the lists I have set. The device has caused me a great deal of distress. I am glad I did not purchase it. I am glad it was a freebie from BT. If I had bought it I would have been returning it as the device does not meet my expectations. You have to have an app to operate it. You have to be able to see and understand the app to operate a google home. I am disappointed with this device. It does not appear compatable with apple either. And of course the instruction Manuel is on an app. Very unconvent and unhelpful..Version: 2.11.112

Would give 0 stars if I could. We’ve had our chromecast for a while now, and both it and the app have been fine. But after a phone breakage, one member of your home switched to an apple device and they are completely unable to cast and the app is useless. So know that google will give you speedy casting and an easy set up, IF you buy their stuff. If you buy Apple? They punish you by making your services inaccessible, and their help is garbage. If your problem doesn’t fit into one of their vague, old lady plugging in the wrong wire kind of issue, either take to the forums and hope SOMEONE ELSE can help you or you’re screwed. The app is no help, it gives no guidance on issues you have and has no troubleshooting features. Google Wifi setup issue / missing featuresI had trouble picking up an old Google Wifi unit to mesh with a new Nest Wifi network. I only managed to get this setup to work by using the old Google Wifi app to mesh my old unit with another Google Wifi network and cancelling it. By fluke I then found I could pickup my Google Wifi in the Home app after this test and add it to my new Nest wifi network. The setup process should be seamless for adding old Google Wifi units that have been reset and have the latest firmware. Also, I am glad the Google Wifi app is still around (and can be used with Nest Wifi) and hope as much of the functionality from there makes it to this app such as advanced settings and seeing what device is connected to which point..Version: 2.17.110

Poor for nest camerasMost of the home options a great, easy to use and in most cases works well. But for their nest cameras it takes too long to look at footage, you cannot look at all reordered footage as on the old nest app, only footage cameras pick up movement and sometimes that is not enough as it misses chucks of evidence! In our case missed someone that should have not been there😡. If you have the outdoor battery camera you have to re set your zones every time you take the camera in to charge (very annoying) and if you want it to record more footage the battery is poor! Normal settings again miss loads of incidents as it seem to re set its self after every recording! Over all the home App good for setting up light schedular, but after over 6 years of using their cameras (Nest(& their prices this year going up by about £20 to save camera footage)) I will be looking else where for security cameras!.Version: 3.10.103

Stop asking me to give google everythingKeeps asking me to turn on wifi to setup my chromecast although the wifi is on.Version: 2.14.109

Terrible devicesNot so much about the app but the terrible devices associated with it, nest mini constantly disconnects from chromecast and refuses to play sound, says it’s still connected but I have to go to settings and disconnect and then reconnect every single time. Chromecast remote constantly disconnects whenever it wants. Devices refuse to connect to wifi on a daily basis. Sort this out google, multi billion dollar companies shouldn’t be suffering from basic issues such as these, will be using a basic Bluetooth speaker from now on cause somehow older simpler tech functions better than your “smart home” filth..Version: 3.15.104

ConfusingTo be honest, prefer the previous version of this app cause it was easy to use and I figured out how to use my chromecast. Now with the new update, it’s so confusing, whenever I try to watch Netflix on my tv with this app, it works fine but later on when it times out (Netflix connection to the app) I have no idea how to get it to wake up and continue. Just saying that I want to previous version back please..Version: 2.7.307

Different between countriesThere appears to be different versions for different countries which makes troubleshooting extremely difficult. Some features just aren’t there which can be a real problem when dealing with grouped speakers and especially with google home/home mini..Version: 1.26.810

Google nest hubWhy does my Google nest hub keeps on losing connection with my outdoor camera front yard camera which is also Google And I also have three Nest wifi pro wi-fi-6e it seems to work a bit better with these three new Google boosters but sometimes I still have to unplug it and plug it in to reboot my nest hub I also have Google front doorbell.Version: 3.11.104

Updates have been terribleSince the recent updates I have experienced nothing but issues with the Google Home app. Many of my devices say “not connected” when I try to use features through the app…even though they indeed are connected. Cameras have shown offline, devices such as my Roomba unable to operate (through the Home app - work just fine if I give an audible command to a speaker). I’ll have music streaming through a speaker, go to adjust the volume through the app instead of barking a command in to the air only for the app to tell me the device is not connected even though music is playing through it. At first, I went through the steps of disconnecting/ forgetting the device and adding it again (troubleshooting tip offered by Google). It didn’t solve the problem. I have speakers, hubs, cameras and a security system set up to operate through the app. All Google brands. I am familiar with how to use them and hardly a layman when it comes to set up, use, troubleshooting etc. Prior to the redesign/ update, I did not have complaints with the G Home app. I am hoping the issues are fixed quickly. Seriously disappointed at the moment..Version: 3.1.108

What have you done? This app is broken, The app used to work great, no trouble setting it up but it has had updates and after I moved house when I plugged my google nest hub in at the new place with new wifi and went through setup it wont work, my phone see my new wifi and connects fine, all my other devices also, but google home no , it either doesnt see the wifi at all or it does see it but then simply will not connect to the wifi, i factory reset it , still wont work, I deleted google home and reinstalled it, nope still wont connect to it, this app is broken and has rendered my google nest hub useless..Version: 3.13.105

Speaker keeps telling me to log inMy speaker keeps telling me to log in. I’ve logged out, deleted the app, re installed the app, logged out and logged in then all above repeated several times. Stupid voice keeps telling me to log into the app. Just out of the blue one day and now I can’t access anything to do with the speaker. Conveniently there is no help options either during covid. Only get the run around from automated help engines... Angry customer.Version: 2.22.116

Absolute rubbish. The old app worked. I can no longer control anything on google WiFi devices. WiFi mesh settings never open and on factory reset of device if this dog app even finds the device will never complete the set up. Not far off moving to a better mesh system. Previous app was easy, worked and the best. Google home it’s ugly devil sibling..Version: 2.37.107

Terrible terrible Google productIf you ever have the misfortune of purchasing a nest product and are now forced to use this app, I pity your soul. When nest was acquired by Google, the seemed to believe their app (non-functional) should replace the much more feature rich and totally functional app (nest app). We now get to enjoy staring at a camera loading screen for several seconds, way past when we got the notification, and by the time the person or vehicle is gone, we get about a flash of who or what was there before losing image again. Get ready to be plagued with “Live Video Unavailable. The camera may be unreachable or saving battery.” Because that will be what you’ll get 90% of the time. I haven’t been able to stream more than 20-30 seconds without it erroring out with that. And the cherry on top, not just the streams are messed up, but the history too! It is so frustrating trying to find a little video from days ago without just giving up from the absolute horrific lag and instability. At times it feels like they’re just taking 4 second captures at a time, transcoding that snippet in the cloud, streaming that to the app, then beginning to transfer the next 4 seconds after the video is fully received from the app. Insanity..Version: 3.10.103

Worthless piece of garbageBought a google nest hub and all it does is display pictures on the screen. WORST OF ALL IS THAT IT CAN’T EVEN SIMPLY DO THAT? Worst purchase. Horrible app. The user experience is garbage. Don’t get a google nest hub. So frustrating ugh..Version: 2.16.124

ChromecastMy chromecast was really great till i had to reset it and now i go and connect it and everything goes well till it connects to the wifi and a second after it says something went wrong and i follow all the steps but it keeps doing it 🤦🏽‍♀️.Version: 2.62.115

Disconnects from wifi And I can’t reconnect itI got my best mini about a month ago and it was great but it would disconnect from wifi and I had no clue how to reconnect it. I got it the it to connect couple times but it didn’t work soon after. I’ve tried everything to get the stupid thing to work again but I can only connect to the device by using its “wifi” and then it won’t recognize any other wifi signals to connect to. This is so frustrating because is was really helpful and now it’s useless..Version: 2.29.110

New Nest Doorbell BatteryIn a nutshell, not good, but then again it was released just yesterday. Most of the negative is with the video history and the lack of options to delete. If you look at something that was detected, there’s no way to delete that particular video from the screen where you watch it. The ONLY way to delete videos at this time is to delete all of them at one time, you cannot delete single videos. With Ring, and I have an app version that’s working fairly well and you can at least select which ones to delete. Also with Ring you could get a preview upon opening the app. With the new Nest doorbell, it just says the camera is “Idle” and you have to go to live view to see what is currently happening. So, Nest doorbell developers, this system needs some work. Also, the doorbell has a built in battery, so what happens in about 2-3 years when the battery gives out, can the battery be replaced or would I need to buy a new $180 doorbell ??? UPDATE 9/2/21: Returning the Nest doorbell battery. Tech support is worthless, the interaction with Google Home is terrible. and the lack of a replaceable battery just caps it off. Too bad, I expected better..Version: 2.42.120

Needs serious work from GoogleNest app. Google nest app. Not all the devices work with both apps so you need both which is annoying and confusing. Also they are supposed to work with Apple home kit, but don’t. First generation devices, second generation devices that don’t talk to each other. It’s a minefield. You call Google, waste an hour talking to the doorbell dept that can’t help you with the thermostat dept and can’t decide if the smoke alarm should or shouldn’t talk to other devices. GET A HOLD OF THIS ALL please Google. It’s a mess and all you do IS give untrained people who have no real idea of life in modern cities and what it’s really needed. Fluent understanding follow up and open the problem service. Come on, Tim Cook wouldn’t allow this, at should you. PUT THE SERVE IN SERVICE!.Version: 3.4.103

Could be better.Home mostly works but it still has lots of bugs. It stops playing streams at least once or twice a day. It looses connection to the internet. When I place a phone call, it thinks it is the first time I have used it, and reads me a boring script. It is difficult to manage notifications. A Reminder is easy to miss because it does not include an alarm sound. Although Google has access to my every word, they never seem to push software updates. It drives me crazy that it is not user configurable. If you speak to it it sometimes doesn’t respond, if you yell at it, two speakers respond. If you start a stream on one speaker, there is no way to add a new speaker when you move to a new room. There is no way to group lights and or speaker into a scene, So you have to turn them on one at a time or turn on all lights in a room. There are still limits to wireless switch and bulb configurations on the market. This is not Google’s fault but some smart rocker switches are incompatible with standard cover plates. There is no two gang switch yet. All wireless outlet units stick out of the wall and make the plug hit furniture, etc..Version: 2.15.414

Routines has gone missingRoutines has been missing from the app for months now and it still hasn’t been fixed. My “good morning” routine is messed up. Google assistant says “here’s the latest news” and then doesn’t play anything and skips to the next item in the routine. I need to fix it but the app is also broken as routines isn’t present anymore.....Version: 2.35.109

Terrible for security camera’sUnfortunately forced to use this app. Nest app is much more reliable. The new Google camera’s will not work with the nest app. So had to switch everything to Google home. Constant issues with the cameras being offline. Always need to restart the app to connect to the cameras. Junk..Version: 2.53.103

Flaky home automation and very limited automation logicHome automation frequently doesn’t work. Not entirely Google’s fault as the devices and their integration services can also be flaky. However the app doesn’t do list to help in these situations, like automatic retrying and telling user what is going on so they can try to fix the issue or contact the device’s support. Furthermore, automation functionality is frozen in mid 2010s. Very lame and basic routine logic available, can’t even play different audio chimes/alerts as you can with Alexa’s equivalent feature. The UI for editing automations appears to be a wrb app that is monstrously slow every time you want to make a change..Version: 3.4.103

InconsistentConstantly having issues connecting to it. Not simple or user friendly. Continually having to u plug and plug back in just to make it work. Wouldn’t recommend.Version: 2.34.114

Unable to detect locationWe are using Google home as we have to for Nest. When we were able to just use the Nest app it was very reliable and telling when we were out and turning the heating up away. Since being forced to use Google home it has been a nightmare as the app does not detect when we leave and so leaves the heating on unnecessarily which is such a waste of money and energy. Very frustrating. We have invested in a smart thermostat but are having to manually switch it to eco everyday when we leave. Would be great if Google could fix these faults or just let us use nest again. Specifically: - you cannot use your device to detect your location in both Google home and the nest app. If you switch to detecting in Google home, Nest will disconnect that device from location sensing. We have therefore opted to use Google home to detect - Google home does not detect location, and yes, my settings have it to always have access to location. The first day it managed to detect me but since then location history has been blank so the thermostat has been unaware if we are home or away. - there are two of us in my household, is this too much for the app to handle? Please can Google fix this fault as they have essentially made having a smart thermostat redundant (and costly) since they took over. If you can provide a helpline number to call about this that would be great. However, I see other people have not found their Nest customer support particularly supportive..Version: 2.47.111

Lag in systemIt seams I always have issues with slow response time when I ask Google home to turn on lights or anything else. I have reset the system numerous times but it goes back to slow all most right away. Not sure what to do next..Version: 3.11.104

HorribleAs with just about all of my nest products I’m mortified at how horrible this app performs. I’m so invested with nest at this point I feel stuck after buying a massive bundle package a year or so ago. They’re app crashes constantly and takes forever to load anything. They’re notifications would rather focus on shadows and bugs then the mail man or cars in my driveway. Their previews never load and instead I get a blank screen. While using the app or in between opening the app I am constantly logged out as is my wife on her phone. The quality of my WiFi doesn’t seem to matter but cameras are co stay my offline. The smoke detectors are constantly giving false smoke detections giving me a heart attack. They’re support is horrible and says use the google home app. Well that apps worse as you can’t open the app and see your cameras. You have to click on every camera to see it and it loads just as slowly and horribly as the nest app. I’m about to just throw it all in the trash and drop a bunch of money on a better product. You’d think a massive company like google would be on top of their tech and have something as sought after as this preforming like the public would expect it to do. So yourself a favor and look into other security options..Version: 2.30.123

Worst Google CreationIt’s pretty disappointing to expect such an app from Google. Extremely non user friendly. To access the shopping cart each time, we have to go through so many steps. Need to consider a better user interface like all the other google apps..Version: 2.22.116

Thanks, I hate itI don’t know why Google is so unable to make anything decent other than a search engine. Every dollar spent on a Chromecast is a waste and this app is just as bad, it can’t even remove the old copy of the same Chromecast that I had to reset and re-add because it periodically refuses to connect to wifi..Version: 2.46.106

UI/UX terrible compare to NestI was just strongly encouraged to migrate from the Nest app to Google Home and while everything appears to work, the experience is a huge downgrade. The Nest app had a flow of devices with relevant content. For each thermostat, it showed the settings and current temp. I only had to click through to the device of I wanted to make changes. In Google, I have to select the category thermostats and then an individual device before I see any information. That's two additional clicks pet device instead of just being able to see it all at once. In Nest, I could invite anyone to join the home by entering their email address. It would send them an email invite with a link that would walk them through setting up their account. In Google, it simple tells me I can only add people with a Google account. I have to tell them to go setup an account on their own and then add them later. That is not a friendly experience. I can only see one camera at a time. In Nest, I could see them on a single page and then choose one to get a full page view. And finally, the color scheme is much more stark and less pleasing. This app is in every way worse than what I had with Nest. It works. But from a user experience standpoint, it is a huge disappointment..Version: 2.16.124

Terribly designedDid you have anybody with any UI experience or did you just make a giant list with no thought to design. Not at all intuitive and lots of hidden links. One of the worst google apps I have ever encountered. Forcing google wifi users to move to google Home was a huge step done. Google wifi itself is ok but not great either as you have to have the mesh pucks pretty close to each other in almost line of sight to get them all green excellent. Seems to have issues with plaster walls vs drywall so if you live in a bigger Victorian you will need a lot more pucks then you think. However at least the mesh works whereas the Home app is almost unuseable and designed to create frustration..Version: 2.48.106

Indifferent app badly in need of a severe tidy upThis app is extremely illogical in its layout and takes a lot of getting used to. It crashes widgets from other supposedly supported smart tech companies every time it is updated requiring a phone restart to get them back working again - but do Google bother to tell you that? Do they b*ggery, you have to work it out for yourself. And there’s the rub - the entire app relies on being intuitive to use BUT IT SIMPLY IS NOT! As an example wifi network settings sit under an associated button EXCEPT the wifi restart which sits elsewhere. And although the app is supposed to support associated smart technology it doesn’t - the non-Google devices appear in the app but that’s about it, there’s zero control of most. And then there updates - today’s update crashed my entire wifi network requiring a hard reset on my router! And do Google tell you this will happen with the update? You guessed it, do they b*ggery. There’s some serious work to be done to make this what it should be, not what it is at present - a seriously flawed app..Version: 2.59.211

Routine functionality limitedSo google provides a few routines off the bat for example a “good morning routine” only problem is for some reason you can’t add delays to the pre made routines and other features are disabled on pre made routines (which is baffling to say the least) Not only is the functionality in pre made routines stupidly restricted, you can’t delete these pre made routines either. For example I had a routine set up on my Alexa device before upgrading to google that would turn on my bed room fan wait an hour before turning it off, now on Google’s pre made routine I can’t add a delay to have my fan switch off. So I create a new routine but then I can’t use the words “good night” because Google’s pre made routine already uses it so I have to find alternative phrases instead of just allowing me to delete the pre made routine or use the full range of features and ability So far I regret upgrading to a google system over Alexa due to these strange choices on routines..Version: 2.52.104

Good but Used to be betterTrying to intergrate so many features makes it very difficult to navigate and do simple tasks, sorry to say but this used to be a lot easier to use. Still does the job eventually though....Version: 2.15.414

Would make a better paper weight!!Changing your Wifi password stuffs it up and you have to go through 2hrs wait for a service provider to stuff about with settings! 😡 I tried deleting the app for Google home and then reinstating it from the app store. I even tried restating my mobile. Honestly Google need to simplify the reactivation should a person change their password. As outlined, to have to go as far as contacting ones service provider just to be able to use the thing is a ridiculous amount of buggarising around just to be able to have it use Wifi. I honestly feel like tossing it into the bin. I have so far reset the device, reset my modem, reinstalled the app. Checked and found UPnP already activated and still nothing. Ive even tried clearing saved Wifi on the app itself and all up so far have spent a good hour of missed income just trying to get this to successfully connect. One would assume they'd had considered that people have a life and need to work to pay for these little luxuries but to through all this jargon on top is simply outrageous!.Version: 1.26.810

Cameras are a jokeThere’s a lot wrong with this app, but what really infuriates me is how poorly the cameras work. For example zones. I have 2 zones on one my my cameras. Basically one is for the driveway close to my house and one zone is for street/sidewalk. I have different notification settings for each zone. For example I want to be notified if someone is in my driveway but if a car passes by on in the street zone it should record but not notify. There’s a giant area separating these zones. It defies logic then why no matter what the camera sees, it places it in the Driveway zone when it clearly has no motion in that area. I’m just dumbfounded. It’s like they added features but never really checked to see if they actually work correctly. Also the face recognition rarely works. It has not saved a face in weeks. Support said to reboot the camera, guess what you can’t from the app (WTH!) so up the ladder I go because you can’t just cut power because of the internal battery. Guess what, no change! I work in IT and site security so I’m well versed in this stuff. Don’t expect a real security solution when you purchase a nest camera from Google..Version: 3.13.105

Irksome, poorly designed (T-stat use only)Edited after a season's use. Just don't. An advance that is far worse, cumbersome and otherwise difficult to use. I would put the old t-stat back if I hadn't recycled it. Junk. Overall, feels a bit like an acquisition they now regret and will let die. Like others say, the app is cumbersome, slow, and awkward. Using this for an old-style Nest t-stat obtained from my electric utility. As an example of poorly thought-out operation (that is, privileging circuit design over utility) it took me longer to find out which device version it was than to put it on the wall. (A page of text would be much better than lots of fun bouncy graphics-we're installing things like thermostats, not playing). Yes the device is an improvement (and is the only reason this isn't a one-star review), but really, it's easier to set the thermostat manually if you are away than it is to do it here. Just more things to go wrong with no actual advance. PS I really, really dislike the lack of a sign out in this app. Update 3/23: Pleasantly surprised that it has operated more or less faultlessly since setup, so will add one star (now 3) as I add another device to a different furnace. Just my opinion, but the secret seems to be to keep it local only (don't attempt anything other than in home & on same network) and use a simple routine-the rest is just a problem in search of something to do aka unnecessary..Version: 2.67.102

I hate this appI’m not super knowledgeable about technology but shouldn’t an app be easy to use. How hard is it to set up chrome cast? Using this app it’s always a mission. Made it easier to follow for those of us who just want to enjoy the device not have an in depth understanding of how everything works seriously!!!!!!!!!!!.Version: 2.37.107

Extremely disappointingPurchased 4 indoor cams and 1 year nest aware couple months back. Before the update the app was okaish, even then it was missing a lot of basic features, but most was working. But now with the last updates, it makes me regret spending a small fortune on these cameras and nest aware, because now the cameras are unreliable and the video quality has degraded. The app is just shallow and complicated and buggy. Even the volume and sound in general is messed up when looking at live and event videos. I honestly can’t be bothered to go through each issue because there are so many. Very disappointed google, a company of your size and experience should not be producing software like this..Version: 3.3.104

Google home app and Nest devicesWorst thing that ever happened to people who loved their Nest devices was Google buying Nest. I never had a problem with Nest devices before Google bought them. They try to make it look easy but everything is a pain in the a**. Nothing works like it should. When you look for help the customer service people have no idea about anything but what they read on their computer screen and you darn lucky to understand a word they say. A major problem is when you look for an online solution is what you see in the video is not what you see on your own app (and my apps ARE updated). Just trying to change your WiFi settings is a major hassle, you’d think it would be easy, just look in settings, and that’s what CS tells you but when you go to settings there is nothing about WiFi. It was there when I installed it, but no longer. ‘ BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH GOOGLE IS THAT NO ONE WHO WORKS THERE CARES IF THEY ACTUALLY HELP ANYONE, YOU’RE JUST A NUMBER, YOU’RE JUST AN EQUATION THAT THEIR BEAN COUNTERS FIGURED YOU IN, AND THAT HOW THEY TREAT YOU’..Version: 3.11.104

Don’t underestandIt wouldn’t play from Apple Music even though I’ve previously played music through my tv this way. Unlinked my account and then it wouldn’t re-link. Uninstalled the app to reinstall it and see if it would make a difference and now it won’t even download. This last point may be more of an App Store problem but the other things are not. even if connected to Apple Music it doesn’t link properly. It plays music randomly on shuffle and you can’t pick songs to play from your playlist or control it at all via the actual Apple Music app..Version: 2.49.106

Trouble for Apple UserThis would be great if it was easier and actually worked from an Apple iPhone. We have tried connecting to 2 different Chromecast devices and both times it has been a massive task and taken hours. From the Google Home app we can find devices and start setting them up. However, as soon as it gets to the step where the device has to be connected to the WiFi it says “connected” for a second then suddenly the “something went wrong” notice pops up. I have set my iPhone settings as recommended; also tried to reset my phone, the Chromecast device and WiFi modem but it still won’t work. When we did eventually get it connected with one of the devices we tried, it was great!.Version: 2.43.111

CompleteGarbage.Version: 2.60.108

Clunky UI and missing key functionalityThe UI is unintuitive and dated. But my biggest bug bear is that I can’t remove devices from the wifi network once they have connected. Ie no way to block a device from reconnecting. Background: My kids wrongly gave access to some friends to the main network instead of the guest network. Now I can’t get them off the main network unless I change the wifi password or change each device individually and remove my my wifi. Very annoying considering we’ve paid a motsa for google nest throughout the house. I’d be happy for a paid app if it provided better functionality.Version: 3.3.104

Slow and BuggyThe app has always been slow, but in the last few months, the notifications don’t work. They sometimes pop up, but then immediately disappear from the Lock Screen. If unlocked, the banner notification will pop up and stay indefinitely until it is manually dismissed, even though settings are set for the banner to dismiss itself. There are no longer previews in the notifications for cameras (note: the old Nest app still has camera image previews in notifications and works as designed. It’s also much better for reviewing 24/7 footage, and has always moved quickly as compared to Google Home). Another issue I have is the Smoke/Carbon Dioxide detector support. I purchased these pre-Google Home, and there is still no way for me to add them to Google Home. I still have to use Nest to monitor smoke/carbon alarms. Annoying and interesting since Google has owned Nest for a while now. There are blogs full of posts from people with the notification issues, and all say they have had a lot of trouble getting this issue acknowledged by Google. Fix these basic things, and this app is back to being slow and clunky, but would at least not make our monitoring products ineffective for timely monitoring..Version: 3.13.105

ComplexThe installation is far to complex and I have all but given up. It won’t recognize my home WiFi network or it it supposed to be the one in Chromecast - like lounge etc. To many confusing steps. You need to do it a better and easier. Why is everything have to be registered. Just create something easy to install..Version: 2.8.107

It’s fine but fiddlyI love using the shopping list feature but (a) it takes far too many clicks to access the list and (b) they’ve recently updated it such that it does not appear to be possible to change the order of the items, which was previously possible. The change is most irritating! The change to get rid of the picture is fine - that was pointless. But please reinstate the ability to reorder the items in the list - it really helps before/when going to a shop! A big bonus would be the ability to add to the front landing page of the app a quick click to access your favourite feature eg my shopping list. Would love to know if I’m missing a trick..Version: 2.47.111

What a painTrying to navigate the best at and how it communicates with the Home app is a pain. And why did it ask me to sign in with a random non google email ? Ugh. PITA !!!.Version: 2.22.116

Google Home showing different Nest data from Nest appThe Nest thermostat shows different data from Google Home and different again from the thermostat. Neither app show the correct daily usage even though the thermostat does. Tech support say this is a known problem and there is no fix. If you rely on Google Home / Nest thermostat app to check heating usage as I do, the Nest thermostat is not for you. Given huge increases in electricity and gas prices, knowing accurate daily usage has become even more critical. I have spoken to tech support 3 times in the last week apparently this issue has been known about for a long time as can be seen by the posts on the Google community but still no resolution..Version: 2.58.104

Nothing ever worksReally frustrated with google home products. They constantly have to be reset and the home hub video calls never work bc you you have to use a proprietorial app that no one has. Really disappointing..Version: 2.36.113

Setting up a chrome cast tvThis app worked fine when I had to set up one google home in my brothers bedroom and when I was setting it up I used my phone but his account and so when I got mine it was so difficult to set up because I want the google homes linked but under different accounts so they can access different personal information. Of course everything got worse when I decided to get a chrome cast tv. I have been trying for 3 days to set up this darn thing but currently all it does is show pictures. It is horrible and confusing. The app has a very bad layout and it needs a search bar..Version: 1.31.910

Cumbersome; limited controls. I expect more from GoogleI have a Google Chromecast and Google Nest Mini, latest generation. Even though my Apple devices can readily find and pair with this hardware via BT and WiFi, the Google Home App consistently has trouble finding and pairing. There is no useful error message; Google Home simply displays an irritating graphic of falling shapes and suggests to “try resetting”. Useless! Further, Google Home has very limited controls. I can select devices and turn them on and off. That’s it. To cast, I must do this from individual apps. There is no reasonable way to use Google Home to adjust settings on the devices or help them to work together. Yes, I created “Rooms” and “Groups”, but these structures do not enable the most basic of features such as syncing audio/video from Google Chromecast across multiple devices (TVs, Speakers). And heaven forbid I want to Cast something from Chromecast directly to the Nest speaker while doing something independently with my phone: the Google Home app prevents this from happening by stopping the active cast from the Chrome device. Why the heck would you have this? At least add a toggle switch to selectively enable this feature..Version: 2.37.107

Connection Issues with ChromecastI can’t get my Chromecast to work on the app on my iPhone. Seems like an issue that everyone is facing based on all the negative reviews. It gets to the end of the setup and it says connected for a second before saying something went wrong. Please fix this asap, it’s been months now with no update or fix, gummon google!.Version: 2.47.111

“Connecting to joining device” issue - nothing worksAnd Google is just too big to care about bugs affecting current customers..Version: 2.47.111

Routines Need WorkThe overall app is solid, functions as it should. However, I am having great difficulty and frustration when it comes to the routines. There is only one routine option that allows for “non-voice starters” (aka times you choose to have something done like turning on a thermostat), which is the workday routine. I find it quite silly that even a custom routine category I created still cannot have more than one time slot (starter) where I don’t have to tell google to do it, but instead have it automatically done in the background. To add to my frustration, the one routine (workday) that does allow more than one time slot bugs out every time I try to add a time now. It will let me proceed to pick the time & action, but when it goes to save it cuts for a second and takes me back to the start of the routine—time and action unsaved. It sometimes allows me to do one or two after I’ve hard restarted my phone, but I’m unwilling to do that for every time slot I want to create. The app does work well otherwise, but I find that to be quite a silly feature. The entire point of having “starters” and automatic actions is so that I don’t have to tell google to tell my devices when to do..Version: 2.67.106
