Gym Hero Pro for Negative User Reviews

Great app…until you have a problem!Got this in July 2016. Served the purpose well for 6 months. Then it started acting erratic on my iPhone 6s. Couldn't enter sets and/or reps without backing out of it several times and restarting the app. Frustrating, to say the least, when you were doing supersets. Got an iPhone 7…same exact problem. Emailed support, no response. Emailed again, was told I was the only one "complaining" about it and to be more specific. Sent a very detailed email outlining it step-by-step…no reply. Then same problem started happening on my wife's iPhone. Emailed again…was then told to back up everything, delete the app, and reinstall. This was happening on 3 DIFFERENT phones so that would have been pointless. Had to dump this one, got another one that works perfect and does everything exactly as it should. And they reply to emails!. Customer service does exist...just not here. Good luck if you use this one..Version: 2.20

Needs updatingMissing a lot of traditional exercises in its database and some things are misspelled. Would expect more than this for a paid app..Version: 2.26

Decent App but the upselling is annoyingWhen I pay for the pro version of an app, I don’t expect to pay even more to use basic functions, i.e., weight and rep tracking. That’s just greedy..Version: 2.24

If you’re after a good gym App, keep looking.Gym Hero Pro is not a great App - for a number of key reasons and for a whole bunch of smaller ones. The curious thing about this App is not so much that it is a really average gym log, but that so many people have seemingly given it a good review. I’ve been using gym tracker Apps for my workouts since the launch of iPhone (about 7 years) and I’ve tried and used about 11 different Apps over those years. Sadly, the best one I ever used ‘Gym Buddy’ is no longer supported and has been removed from the store. Gym Hero Pro one doesn’t even make the starting line as a contender for its replacement though. To begin with the graphical representation in the latest version is just plain terrible. Not that it looks ‘unattractive' or that the developers haven’t spent time on it - on the contrary they have clearly spent a large portion if their time trying to make is look identical to an iOS 7 style generic App - it’s just that an iOS 7 style guide is not in any way a useful or sensible motif to use for a gym log. There are no borders around any of the separate graphical areas so it’s unclear and confusing. As any App user knows, interface is crucial for usability - and for tracking routines, set and reps you want something that is fast and clear to read. This should be the 101 of getting an App right and they have failed here. Then there’s the way the exercise data is handled. This should be the 102 of getting a data tracking App right, and it’s a fail too. When you come to doing a routine, the previous routine is ‘copied’ and pasted discreetly so there is no relationship from one to the next. They haven’t used a standard ‘database' style of exercises. Also the layout of the sets, reps and weight with their silly dial entry mode is literally backward, so again it’s unclear and I still struggled to get used to it after six/seven sessions using it. Muscle Groups don’t exist! Reading the FAQ they are 'supposed to’ exist so I can only presume that this is a failing of the current version and will be fixed again in a future release, but as it is that is an epic, immeasurable fail for a muscle focused program. There is no intelligent way to track warms-ups or miscellaneous ‘cardio' exercises that anyone might do before, during or after their workout (or indeed might do as a complete workout!) which seems really weird. How hard would it be to build an exercise type for jogging, exercise-bike riding or stair climbing and other ‘non-weight-lifting’ activities? Given that most other Apps accommodate it - not hard. There is no sensible way to track bodyweight exercises (would be smart if it pulled the user’s body weight from the preferences and used a calculation) and crucially there is no way to track negative weight exercises (where the more weight you add, the less you are lifting). There’s no super-set tracking either, and these would have to be done manually. Also, the timer doesn’t automatically start after you’ve entered a set, which is pretty annoying. In fact the App does not permit time to be stamped against sets at all as it has this ridiculous dial system for entering sets and reps, so it’s not even time-aware. It’s difficult to understand how they could have come up with this concept. I sent a long and detailed email to the developers with questions and suggestions, and asked them for feedback but I didn’t get so much as a “thanks for contacting us” I just heard tumbleweeds. I think these guys are asleep at the wheel. If you’re after a well though through gym tracker with good features and usability, keep looking..Version: 1.11

Good I use it. Could be betterIt's a really handy app. I use it everytime i go to the gym. But unless the developers update it with more features I will move on to something else. I would recommend testing what's out there as there are some really sophisticated apps before parting money for this one at this time..Version: 2.23

Lost ability to create exercisesI am no longer able to modify an exercise plan or an exercise. Where is documentation for this app?.Version: 2.27

ReviewWas a good app but for me atleast it's been crashing a lot and won't allow me to open my exercises to fill in the weight n reps. Loved the old gym hero from years ago..Version: 2.3

Cardio pleaseI like this app, but it would be nice if there was a feature to track cardio.Version: 2.27

Crashing issues make this unusableYou really should be ashamed that you continue to have people pay for an app that crashes more than it works. You cannot input a set within a lift without the app crashing. You have to restart the app, and enter every set. Changing exercises also causes the app to crash. The developers should be offering refunds to the people who paid for this. Absolutely terrible, I would have rather burned my 3 dollars..Version: 2.24

Doesn’t workThis review of the app. Just to let you know it doesn’t work.Version: 2.23

Keeps crashingI open the app and it keeps closing when it try to use it on iOS 12.Version: 2.24

CrashesI have a iPhone 6s Plus with current update and every time I open the app it just crashes, haven't been able to log my last weeks workouts... please fix or help!.Version: 2.20

They ignore feedback about bugsI like this app on the whole but there’s a really annoying bug I’ve highlighted on their feedback page, AND emailed about, which they haven’t fixed for over a year..Version: 2.27

Would be a great app if it didn’t crash all the time( Using iPhone X’s with latest iOS ) The app is easy to use, well designed out, but unfortunately has serious stability problems. Crashes all the time, it’s virtually unusable most times with the keyboard disappearing when entering workout details. Don’t waste your money with the “Pro” version, stick with the Free version until they sort it out and get it working properly. Once they do that and it’s stable, it’ll be the best workout app by far.Version: 2.24

Gets the job done.Been using for years..Version: 2.20

Bought the 5x5Bought the 5x5 workout and the “lb” and the “body parts worked” aren’t filled in, so the heat map at the end is empty. When I manually fill in the body part it only gives you one option. For example; deadlift, do I pick back? Or legs? (No option for hammies) I used some arms. But I can only choose one... Paid app and paid workout should at least come prepopulated. Other than that, I love the app..Version: 2.26

Good app, questionable supportPros - easy tracking of exercises and links to other apps/devices (apple watch, Runkeeper and lose it) Cons - support. I have received error messages when trying to create an account. Without the account I am not able to back up, sync to other devices or access workouts via the website. Sent emails to the support area but have received no replies.Version: 2.27

Don’t get it doesn’t workI paid for this app created an account but can’t login. Says I have to confirm my account, but I haven’t gotten an email to confirm. It’s been 2 hours and still haven’t gotten email to confirm..Version: 2.24

Keeps crashingThis app crashes a few times every day during my half hour workout.Version: 2.23

Doesn't load on iPhone 6 plusApp crashes when I try to open it on my 6plus. The basic version still works but pro is messed up pretty bad..Version: 1.11

Didn’t carry over my statsI was prompted in the free version to buy pro so that I could view my stats but none of my stats carried over to full version..Version: 2.23

Pre-fill Exercises doesn't workWould be a great app if the 'pre-fill exercises' from previous workout actually worked. Tried contacting app support but they didn't bother replying..Version: 2.27

Does the Job, But...This app keeps good track of workouts, and it allows you to plan your own workouts. It also has a database of exercises with good descriptions of form with an short animation and text. I wish these 2 aspects of the app were more well integrated though. There’s a lot of tapping going on to see the descriptions, when I’d rather just be lifting. This is a short term problem though. Once I learn the forms, it will be meeting my needs just fine..Version: 2.26

Good concept, buggy app.My favorite logging app in terms of layout and interface. Frequent crashes and broken Facebook functionality are frustrating. Notified the app creators of recurring problems and nothing has been done or even acknowledged. Thinking of switching apps if things don't change very soon..Version: 1.11

RIP OffPurchased pro in the hope of doing some of the plans, but everything is an extra in app purchase - not worth the money. The interface is very clunky not good..Version: 2.22

No mention of monthly paymentsOn the website i found out that this app is a monthly subscription but this isn't mentioned on the app store. I will be cancelling after a month as the app is ok but not worth it. Also when i upgraded to pro i lost my purchased workouts..Version: 2.6

Becoming UnusablePretty much unusable with the constant crashing since ios12 updates. Problem doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Don’t want to switch to another app as will lose all the data however cannot keep using this app if the crashing problem isn’t solved..Version: 2.24

Awful - Total rip offJust bought this pro app on the basis of positive reviews. Either they were written by those who only ever use weights or those 'close to'(ahem) the app makers. Going to a modern gym involves all kinds of exercise classes, cardio and resistance machines, swimming, etc. But what can you log on the app? Sets/Reps of weight-bearing exercises - THAT'S ALL!! Yup, you can't log any cardio work. No swimming. No use of anything other than weights. There are no standard routines built in. To start any training programme, you have to pay again - double the cost of the app (which costs more than most itself). What a complete and utter joke and I'm furious I paid for this pile of crap and outraged at the misleading reviews. Why would anyone think that it would be OK to not mention that this app is only for recording weights?! You enter the name of the exercise yourself and the reps/weight per set. So there is no way the app can do any proper analysis. Am going to request a refund..Version: 2.6

Update neededThis app was a 5 star hands down, but it hasn’t been updated in a while and isn’t working with the new iPhone versions. I can’t even sign into the community anymore. Please Update!!!!.Version: 2.27

Buggy as all hellLatest version rendered this once-awesome app just about useless. Text input is constantly jumping by around between fields resulting in erroneous input and endless frustration. Previous version was great. Now it's garbage..Version: 2.20

SolidGreat app, but recently, every time I log back in, my previous workout has been set to ‘planned’, and many of my lifts have been deleted. Makes it impossible to actually keep track of things..Version: 2.22

Fails to deliver- not worth the money!I purchased the Gym Hero Pro for $2.99 from iTunes and have tried to use it for the last month and half. Several of the features crash, it locks up, does not duplicate workout routines as stated, Autofill fails to add in Sets and Weight, sync with online Dashboard and Calendar is inconsistent, with days missing, and it does not sync with Apple Healthy. Lastly, Gym Hero Pro support is seriously lacking. When I contacted them, they said they were busy with kids and family. They certainly did not have any problem taking the money nor offer a refund..Version: 2.21

Upgrade bummerI’ve paid for the Gym Hero Pro to track stats and see my weights from last time and the update constantly needs to be restored, and even after restoring only works about 50% of the time. Very frustrating..Version: 2.27

A couple features missingBeing able to import workouts from other apps that allow you to export data, a more advanced heatmap (you can only select shoulders/arms/chest/back/legs and for example deadlift needs to have multiple muscle groups) it would be nice to have quads, hams, biceps etc added. There’s no rest timer either..Version: 2.21

Must do betterI have the pro version. I got after being annoyed at the limited features of the free version that stopped me from using the app properly. Not a good monetisation strategy. The pro version has great features but they are hard to understand so you'll find yourself often frustrated with the app. There's not a lot of decent blank canvas work out planners that are this fully featured and I bought it so I've persevered. I'm doing rehab for a knee operation so I need to keep changing and adding exercises of my own. The developers are really responsive so hopefully this app gets better over time..Version: 2.17

Terribly designed appI don't know why but pretty much all the fitness logger apps look unfit/terribly designed. Developers really need to take some human interface courses to learn how to make a simple and easy to use product instead of cramming in features here and there on the screen and having to click through for a few seconds to eventually find what I am looking for. Why's the statistics page with graphs have a big empty white margin on the right??.Version: 1.9.15

GlitchesGood app but seems to have a lot of bug fixes required, constantly freezes or turns off and is slow..Version: 2.27

Stay awayThis app is trash now. Paid for the PRO version. Can’t add an exercise without it failing and closing. Complete garbage..Version: 2.24

Crashes every timeEvery friggin time. Could be a great app if it didn’t crash constantly.Version: 2.23

GarbageWon’t show last workouts weights, paid for pro for no reason.Version: 2.20

Good ideaThis app is great for logging your workout and I can see where they're going with it. Unfortunately it's incredibly buggy and crashes at least 3-4 times a workout. I'm just glad that when it crashes, it doesn't actually lose the data for your current workout..Version: 1.11

App no longer opens with newest reviewCan't open the app with the latest review. App is great once you can use it.Version: 1.11

Pro not syncing with Apple healthWas using the free app and decided to go pro. Now it will no longer sync my workouts to my Apple health app and all of my completed workout got wiped out in my Apple health app when I got rid of the free app. Bummer..Version: 2.27
