Whova - Event & Conference App for Negative User Reviews

Good with glitchesGreat to have everything organised, uploaded, scheduled that part works. My profile including work history and photo is of someone completely different, I have no idea how this happened or how to change it, I emailed & no response. Had to turn off notifications as I was swamped with emails..Version: 7.15.0

Very quirky, but works if you work at itWe used this for an annual industry conference this year due to COVID. Many participants experienced audio and visual difficulties. We were able to work through this using the Whova chat function and logging in to the meetings directly on Zoom. Be very careful not to click on any chat “pop ups” that appear on your screen when you are in a session. If you do, you will be removed from your session to view the chat box. When you reenter the session, you will be put into the session “waiting room” and the session facilitator will need to readmit you. I do hope that we can begin to have our conferences in person again soon. This conferencing platform is a great idea, and I’m sure Whova will work through the bugs in their software over time. However, there are so many software bugs and usability issues that an app like this will never be able to take the place of in person learning..Version: 6.13.0

High maintenance appThe amount of pop-ups and notifications the app shows is probably the highest I've ever seen. It's hard to do anything basic in the app because it's all obscured by notifications, tutorials and unhelpful suggestions that are unrelated to the task you're trying to achieve. Incredibly hard to navigate with all the fluff obscuring the basic scheduling functionality and unreadable personal messages constantly sent to you from the app itself..Version: 6.13.0

ChoicesIt would be good if our choices of talks came up on the app.Version: 7.7.0

Good App Needs Better Notification ClearingI’ve used this app for 4 events, and each time I find the notifications to be hard to use. Each time I opened the app there would be as many as 100 new notifications for 60+ events (comments, updates, new events), and you need to scroll through them all each time - even though you won’t be attending most of the sessions - before you back out and mark all as read. The app should all you to only be notified of updates to sessions you’ve already RSVPd to (or new ones). There were also excessive notifications about attendees with similar interests, but with no granular “mark all as read” function. Likewise, if the Whova team insists on sending in-app mail messages everyday, they should allow replies!.Version: 9.4.3

Nice idea, but very buggyUsing the app for the first time for a big conference. It has promise, but has some disappointing flaws that are so obvious they should have been caught before release. The most frustrating bug to me is in the community section. On my iPhone I see a red bubble apparently saying there are over 300 new posts I haven’t seen. It is absolutely, completely, utterly impossible to see these posts and/or the topic threads they are under. No matter how I sort the threads using the menu option, I see the same ten or so threads—nothing ever changes when I sort. No, the 300+ new posts aren’t all in the 10 threads. So apparently there’s a lot going on at this conference. I’ll just never be able to use the app to learn about it..Version: 10.2.0

Automatically strip mined my LinkedInI was surprised to learn that Whova, on their own volition, had connected to my LinkedIn account, sucked up my data and then published publicly within Whova. No opt in, no opt out, no privacy settings at all in fact. When questioned on the issue, their response was that it’s mentioned in their privacy policy, and happens by default for Whova attendees ‘to aid in networking’..Version: 8.11.0

Hard to find new content.I have it sorted by newest reply, but I still have to scroll through all the groups to find me that have unread content. Then when I open the group I scroll through to the and don’t see any that are marked as unread. But the group is still showing unread. I clicked on the “New” on the top bar but it shows nothing, even though is new content available..Version: 8.10.1

Invasive and infuriatingThe fact that some of my social media accounts would be pulled automatically was not made clear when I signed up for an event. This felt incredibly invasive and quite frankly creepy to see a photo that I did not knowingly link posted publicly on my account there was no opt out option made clear at account creation and I would not have consented to the sharing my now defunct self employed business that was also wildly irrelevant to the event I was attending. Furthermore the agenda sign up and overall use of whova was truly terrible with speakers, tours etc not listed in any kind of chronological order, the multiple attendee tickets a bizarre copy and paste of the full individual information instead of simply purchasing two tickets was infuriating and confusing. I found the leader board, trivia and all the extra “features” forced and obnoxious. While it is possible whova was not optimized for this type of event (sand hill crane festival) it has guaranteed I will avoid the use of whova as much as logically possible in the future.Version: 10.1.0

Can’t update, so locked out of the appThe app update requires IOS 14 - my iPhone 6 is only IOS 12.5.6. A few weeks’ ago the app gave me the option not to update but now the update is mandatory... but it’s impossible to do with my IOS! Which means I can’t use the app for an upcoming conference. Please make the app available to use without the update - or, better still, develop an update that those of us with older IOSs can use (because the app is otherwise terrific).Version: 8.6.0

MrDo not relegate old tech to redundancy by your decisions. I don’t have a camera on my laptop and use a smart phone to video chat and my computer to view slides but Whova won’t allow having two devices connected. We know to turn off the sound on one of them! Really annoying and I will not recommend Whova to anyone, in fact I’ll actively advise against using it.Version: 7.7.0

Unfair PricingI consider myself to be one of Whova’s early clients both as an event attendee and event organiser. Whova is a great app, with new features being added on from time to time, part of which I did recommend to be added. However, it’s disappointing to note that the app pricing has and is still undergoing hyper pricing increments, so much that, as an event organiser, I have now decided that it’s time to look for new/ fresh event apps on the market, with competitive service and pricing. My pricing query on this issue was stealthily attributed to increased software development costs. I am aware that price increments are expected, but definitely not at this rate. Please take time to appreciate and recognise your clients who have supported you over the years, instead of turning around to exploit them..Version: 8.3.1

Can’t flip iPhone to LandscapeEvent layouts often include poetic seminar titles like “Make Every Day A… (off-screen, so must drill down) …featuring world renowned expert Billy-Bo… (off-screen, what expert?) Let me flip my iPhone landscape, make this app re-orient so column width become useful! I would be able to decide which of four 11:00 seminars to attend, instead of seeing a list of mysterious choices..Version: 9.9.1
