Fantastical Calendar for Negative User Reviews

Forceful subscriptionI already bought Fantastical 2, but I am so offended as a consumer that I had no choice to be forced into a subscription model now. Very bad business practice, and I will be looking for a new app to switch to now. If they made a new fantastical 3 as a separate app, I would be ok with that. But the fact that I had already BOUGHT this, and am now forced to spend more money to continue using it is not okay. Sorry, you guys need to re-evaluate how to do business..Version: 3.0

Switched to Calendars 5 because of costThis is actually ridiculously expensive for what it offers. The prices are some of the highest subscription prices I have seen for such a simplistic type of app. I switched to Calendars 5 which offers me virtually the exact same product. But at a one time fee... which is also reasonable. Sad to see greed take over a calendar app..Version: 3.2.3

The Subscription model is not the problem.Update: 1 year later and still can’t add invited members without making a flexbits account (used to work just fine with google account in version 2 before this new model). Plenty of companies have switched to the subscription model successfully. Usually by keeping reasonable pricing, being transparent about the change, and keeping existing features the same for users who already paid for the app. Fantastical has failed on all these fronts. The pricing is way too high, there are clearly obtrusive buttons prompting an already paying user to upgrade, and the new app ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT have all the same features for existing Fantastical 2 users no matter how much they try to gloss over this. They say oh no it's the same features, you just have to hand over your information, add all your calendars to our *free* account... yeah did I have to do that before? No? Then it's not the same features... This isn't a matter of "I don't like how the new version looks". People can disagree on preferences. The facts are simple: I paid for an app with certain features, now the app was updated to make some of those features inaccessible..Version: 3.7.16

Deleted after last update after 4 yearsOpened after update and had no idea what I was looking at. I thought something happened to my phone settings. Larger bloated fonts and cartoon-y choice of contrast and colors have made a once concise and clean UI too "busy" to parse at a glance. Deleted app and time to move on to something else....Version: 3.0.4

Paid Once now Expected to Pay AgainStay away from this application. I had to pay to get this app and now because they decided to change direction I am expected to pay again to get premium. I doubt this changes in the future, so unless you like giving away your money do not use. Tried to send the developers an email asking why I should pay again and received NO RESPONSE!.Version: 3.0.9

Can’t Access any of the Features without Upgrading to Premium and paying $4.99/monthI was using Fantastical for over 3 years (I had paid for the most advanced version) and was happily running and paid for V2. It was a way for me to integrate multiple calendars into one place. Then a couple of weeks ago I started getting a pop up message saying I had to upgrade to Fantastical Premium to access and use the same features that I had been using for the past threeyears. I can’t even look at the “full month” calendar view without upgrading to Fantastical Premium and that costs $4.99/month. I think when you have had a customer for so long you can’t just downgrade them and the features they are use to using like this. You can’t even do the most basic of things Without premium. It’s nasty that a company would treat a long time customer like this. It says a lot about who they are and I would trust them with my business anymore. I’ve got many friends who are paying $9.99 for the year to buy a calendar app that does pretty much everything that Fantastical does. Do yourself a favor and search online. I just found many more calendar adds/ organizers that are a fraction of the price and do the same thing. Sadly you all lost a loyal customer by not honoring all the previous investment I had made into your brand..Version: 3.0.6

Not so fantasticalI used this app all the way up to the point of version 3. When out of the blue came a £40 pay wall with the year view locked behind it. I mean come on what possible value can you add to a calendar app for £40 a year because going on what the app can do right now no value at all. I did pay for fantastical 2 because at the price it was it brought enough value to be worth it. So why could they of not done a new app and left me alone. As for customer service well I sent off an email as I needed help you see if you had version 2 you got to keep all what you had in version 3. But I had to delete the app because at the beginning I was having real problems with the watch talking to the phone. But when I went to reinstall I lost all what I had paid for with no way of getting it back because I can’t load up v2 so v3 knows I paid for in. All I got back was a standard please visit website for answers with no answers. So I’ve deleted the app and will stay with Apple at least that works. If you’ve read this far please save yourself some money and don’t waste your time..Version: 3.0.3

Can you fix the widget glitch please??One of the main reasons I preferred this app over others is because I liked the design of the original widget option that showed the whole month and tasks but was semi-transparent. Its incredibly convenient for someone like me who is crazy busy all the time and I prefer the look of the older transparent widget. However with the new IOS update it keeps adding the new widgets fantastical has and I don't like them. Its totally random too. Every so often theres a glitch or something and I do absolutely nothing to change my widgets and it turns my fantastical widget into one of the newer fully colored in non transparent widgets. It even moves the location of my widget (also annoying). Even if i delete the widget and try to re-add it, it doesn't show up in the “customize list” at all. I have to go to edit home screen and press the “+” button but even still the only options there are the old widgets which I don't like. I realized the only way to get it to show up on the “customize” list again and be the old semi transparent widget I prefer... is by restarting my phone which is very annoying. Please fix this..Version: 3.2.3

Not a good upgradeLike other posters, I found Fantastical 2 very good. As the only combined Calendar and Task list across all three Apple platforms, it’s unique. The iOS Calendar is cross platform but its task list Reminders (clunky in my view) is separate. Calendars 5 does calendars and tasks but not on Mac - and isn’t as user friendly as F2. Initially I thought F3 was an improvement but I now realise I have to pay a large recurring sum to get two things I would like, coupled with many things I wouldn’t . Why not adopt a more granular, one-time charge approach e.g. £3 for colours, £2 for templates, etc ? (I do think the monthly / yearly views should be free as standard F3 upgrade). I did actually upgrade to F3 Premium but cancelled it today having realised I’m paying for 90% of things I won’t use. I’m sure there will be others like me. Please re-consider before I start experimenting with iOS Calendar again.....Version: 3.0.2

Suddenly forcing users to sign up for an accountIt’s one thing to offer a new premium service. It’s another thing entirely to make your app suddenly unusable without signing up for an account. I couldn’t be more disappointed with Flexibits, this is a poor way to treat longer term users. I have been using Flexibits apps for 9 years, what a shame. Yeah yeah, I don’t have to pay for a subscription and I still get to use the app....as long as I sign up for yet another account, and put up with all painful attempts to railroad me into paying a stupid amount for a calendar. For what it’s worth, it doesn’t matter how “privacy friendly” your policy is, this is yet another vector for putting user data at risk. I don’t want a sync account, period..Version: 3.0.2

Loosing a loyal customerSo, I have been using this app for a couple years now. I love... sorry, loved it up until yesterday. I run my whole life off this app and it has been reliable and easy to navigate. Not now! I was not able to use this app yesterday due to you trying to make me sign up for an account. I now have to pay for features??? Really?? I already paid. It just became cumbersome trying to navigate through all the “remind me laters” and sign up for this crap and that crap over there too. Sad really, that companies do this to try to generate more revenue on the backs of those that use their product. A quick market study would have easily shown that the people using this app want simple, both in use and visual, navigation. You had that and now you blew it. See ya! My best advice is to avoid this app. I’m deleting it now. Edit: Two weeks later and I’ve tried a couple apps. Found a nice simple one to replace this one. The quick releases of updates, IMHO, is just their way of trying to bury reviews. Shame..Version: 3.0.6

Waste of time and money. Can't open app.Decided to splurge and go premium, in hopes to find a reliable & user friendly calendar. App just freezes up and can't do anything on it. Trying to give it the benefit of a doubt, I passed Blame on my phone being the issue. So I did a soft reset on my iPhone but to no avail. So then I decided to download it on my MacBook in hopes of setting it up and just syncing it to my phone from there(🤞🏻🙄🤞🏻). Ha. . . I guess that joke is on me- since now the app is frozen at the welcome page on my computer. I've tried rebooting & updated the app on both devices now, but still won't work. So it's been right at one month since I first got this, and not one time have I been able to enjoy using it. Disappointed is an understatement. ***Update:*** No fairy tale update though... Just wanted to warn you all that trying to cancel this is not like the norm where you can simply go to your subscriptions and stop this one. You have to jump through hoops to even find the option to do it! Took me over two months to successfully do so and that was only because I had to email them to ask to cancel only to find out I had to go to their website on a computer.... Log in.... Go to settings and then billing and finally you have the option to cancel at that point. It is unreal the effort required to do this. Zero stars all the way around for me.... Now I get to waste more time requesting a refund for this unusable app!.Version: 3.0.13

Not so Fantastical 3I had everything I wanted from version two. Version three is just giving me sooooo many issues. I have Aspergers and use this app to organise my life so when it suddenly changed, I did not deal with it well. For one, all of a sudden there is a weather forecast in the corner. Helpful, you might say but alas no. There is no way of changing it from Fahrenheit to Celsius so I have no idea what temperature is showing! For every reminder I have set, suddenly I am getting TWO notifications making different noises! I used to be able to mark that I had actioned my notification and had the choice if I wanted to delete it or not but now once marked it disappears so I have no record of it anymore! Honestly, there are so many things I hate about this now that I’m seriously considering seeking a different app..Version: 3.0.2

I hate this “upgrade”I paid for the full version of Fantastical, now this new version constantly prompts me to pay for a subscription, shows features that I cannot use unless I pay more and has generally ruined the beautiful compact nature of the previous Fantastical 2. I paid for Fantastical and effectively you’ve decided that payment no longer entitled me to my unrestricted version. This is pure money making at its worst. Shame on you. An update on this review, I still feel like I’ve been robbed of my paid for version of Fantastical. Apple should fine the company for selling an app and then changing to to a subscription service in the future therefore negating the previous purchase. It’s not like I’ve been given a refund on my original purchase?!.Version: 3.6.4

Better than Apple’s own but lacking a couple featuresThe interface of this app is great - it trumps Apple calendar easily. With that said, I would appreciate a “dim past events” feature across platforms. You can run a script to achieve this on Mac but it doesn’t work for iOS. You can also choose to only show timed reminders on Mac (or perhaps in widgets, I forget) but this option is lacking for iPad and mobile. I feel like the reminders functionality is too limited for this to be your primary reminders app, so it would be better if it only showed timed tasks as those are the ones you’d want to see integrated with your calendar. That said I am enjoying this app and if these features were implemented would be happy to pay and switch over permanently..Version: 3.7.1

Not free at allIf I could rate zero stars I would. Very misleading app. It makes out it’s free but you try and load it and it wants to charge you. No thanks I will stick with the factory calendar..Version: 3.5.3

Great but very expensiveHave been using Fantastical for many years, it’s a really great app, and made an outright purchase before the subscription plans started a couple of years back. I then paid for the subscription, but now after two successive price increases of 40-50% this is now simply unaffordable and I don’t derive enough value from it to justify the price, so will be downgrading to the free app and see how I go. I’ve never found background updating of my calendars to work, which is absolute basic table stakes that I would expect for a paid subscription. I’ll be shopping around for a more affordable alternative..Version: 3.8.8

Another great app lost to SaaS greedGreat for a couple years but has begun to add unnecessary calendar features like weather and requiring subscription payments for basic features like different calendar views. UPDATE: I see no reason why a full screen year view requires an account and subscription despite all the arguments that the new features. Sure, lock your API driven and cost associated features away but don’t handicap your core product..Version: 3.0.11

Needs premiumIt looks great but if you’re happy with an app that visually takes up over 50% of the screen reminding you that you don’t have flexibits premium subscription for a calendar. Otherwise look for an alternative. Developer response appears to force you to try the free trial and then not make the mistake of clicking on a premium feature link which is still half enabled and makes half of the screen Realestate into a large flexibits premium ad again. There are no instructions in app to support the assertion being made about what is available to be viewed. Bad ux design pre-flexibits premium upgrade..Version: 3.5.1

Disappointing for what it costsStill doesn’t have great Siri Shortcut support. Doesn’t play well with iPad multitasking. If they’re asking $40/year for a calendar app, I feel like it should at least be a better iOS citizen. Also, they do the really annoying thing where they don’t write release notes for the actual version they’ve released - i.e., the notes shouldn’t be the same for version 3.0.2 as it was for 3.0. But as someone who bought and paid for Fantastical 2, I do appreciate getting the new design for free and keeping all my old features. I just can’t imagine spending the money on the premium subscription, nor can I imagine recommending it to someone who is new to the app. I get that subscriptions are an easier way for developers to maintain an income flow than developing new products and charging a reasonable one-time price for them, which used to be what we expected companies that wanted to stick around to do. It’s just that, as a consumer, it doesn’t make sense for an app like this, especially when the app doesn’t support some pretty basic things that pro users would want..Version: 3.0.2

Forced UpgradeI paid for v2 and it was expensive for the Mac and apps on phone and iPad but it worked and gave me what I needed at a fixed cost. The move to v3 tried to change this model and hasn’t delivered anything I care about whilst looking to charge me again on a subscription model I don’t want. I can’t get the version back I paid for. This is a bad experience for any user and feels like the standard model of lock you into a subscription model for little improvement to actual features. I didn’t want this model which is why I paid a premium price for the apps on multiple platforms in the first place. Please listen to your users and engage us if you want to do this kind of change. The other reviews are pointing to the same advice..Version: 3.0.13

Huge failureFantastical isn’t a calendar service, it displays your calendars. In my case I already pay a monthly subscription for Office 365, they handle my calendar. Fantastical is a utility app that gave me a better way of viewing my calendars from Office 365 on my iPhone, iPad and Mac. Why would I pay for an additional monthly subscription for such a utility that displays my calendars? If you were providing the cloud based calendaring service, then maybe that would justify a subscription cost. This is a ridiculous business model, your app did one thing and did it well. I bought it v1 and v2 across all my devices, and it was worth that money. The app doesn’t need more features, what it did was great. It looks like you realised you can’t build a sustainable business on a one-trick-pony app, and lazily decided to introduce a subscription to keep money coming. You once made a great app. If you needed more money or wanted to expand the business, you should have come up with a new app idea, or new services that add value to customers. This is just rampant exploitation and greed that disrespects the people that gave you a business to begin with..Version: 3.1

Why ruin a good app with subscriptions?I have been using Fantastical for at least 5 or 6 years now on my iPhone and iPad. I hate the stock calendar app on the iPhone and Fantastical has been great up until this point. I like the new interface but I’m not paying any subscription especially £40 a year after paying £12 for the apps for my iPhone and iPad in the first place that I’ve been using for years now. The old Mac app used to be £40 or £50 but that’s included in the subscription now. It’s stupid how on the free version of the Mac app you just get a list of events on the left hand side and the rest of the screen says please upgrade to premium to get a full month view. I’ve always been happy with the stock calendar in macOS but not on iOS so that’s why I bought fantastical for them. I thought £12 for both my iPhone and iPad was reasonable because I hate the stock calendar so much. I never bought the Mac app because £40 or £50 is just ridiculous for a calendar. The new fantastical app is ok and I’m going to keep using the free one for now. I am going to look for an alternative calendar app though because I’m not happy with the direction it’s fine in and I feel limited not being able to use all the features that I previously paid for and I can’t get the new features without paying more. Especially not £40 a year for a calendar!.Version: 3.0

Fantastical & CardhopHave been using Fantastical for some years and have found it very useful. For some reason you had to have Cardhop and quite expensive subscription to access all the features; many of which the ordinary user does not need. Now there is an inflation beating price hike of £20 taking it to nearly £60 per year for what is essentially an calendar. Have now cancelled my subscription as there is no justification for such a hike for an App. Maybe the developers are targeting business users who claim cost back on business expense? I brought the original Fantastical App and was reluctant to subscribe to the service but was willing to give it a try. Thanks for clearing my head a seeing sense, both Apps will be deleted at the end of subscription. Sadly..Version: 3.8.5

Will try again later.**iOS 15 update** Decided to give it another shot after an entire iOS update was pushed. Tried multiple times, but could not get my watch to get past the login screen. Too much bloat for this to work nicely without major troubleshooting. **iOS 14 update** Now with iOS 14, the exact same problem is even more apparent as my review below. The new widgets barely show any information, while the native calendar app is cleaner, less cluttered, and has smaller text to simply display more information. **iOS 13 - Fantastical 3 update: I bought this app for it’s widget; The compact nature and that you could see a monthly view was the entire reason I bought Fantastical 2. Fast forward to the Fantastical 3 release, I’m happy that all of the same functionality is available to me. I’m not a power user, so the new features are not for me. However, the update has brought in this bloated layout. Text is bigger. Spacing is larger. The compact nature that I was initially happy with is gone. The widget takes up so much space when you have multiple events on any give day. It’s a real disappointment. Why try and change something that worked so well?.Version: 3.5

Wish there was a way to go back to v2I have been a longtime Fantastical user and have been pretty happy with the app, until now. Up until the recent update, the app always worked pretty flawlessly. But then came version 3. Let's start with the introduction of the subscription nags. The upgrade notes indicate that v2 users won't need to pay the subscription to keep using the app. But the reality is, it sure doesn't feel that way. The app has popped up the box to subscribe multiple times with no apparent way to close that box (aside, of course, from clicking on the Buy button.) But here's the main issue with the latest version - reminders are no longer showing up. To be clear, some reminders appear and others don't. It seems to be fairly random. In v2, reminders and everything else worked perfectly. The *sole* purpose of this app is to aggregate events and reminders. If the app can no longer provide that functionality, it's 100% useless - hence the one star rating. The latest version of the Fantastical app (v3) simply does not provide the most basic functionality it is designed for. In this case, the developers made sweeping changes that no one asked for or wanted, in order to introduce a subscription revenue stream. In the process, they broke the app's most basic core functions. Unfortunately, it seems that like many other people are saying, it's time to start looking for an alternative app..Version: 3.0.2

DisappointedAs I saw this used somewhere, I thought I would download it and try it out. It went well for the first 30 seconds. I signed in, made an account and allowed notifications etc. However, then it asked for me to verify my email. That’s totally okay, so I send the verification email. I received the email and pressed the very large VERIFY EMAIL button. This just took me back to the app. I then pressed (on the app) ‘I verified my email.’ All this did was make a pop-up appear claiming that I hadn’t verified my email, and that I needed to ‘press the link’. I then did this same dance for a while before giving up and deleting the app. VERY disappointed, as I would’ve quite liked to try the app out. PLEASE fix this stupid issue, as I cannot even access the actual purpose of the app, as it claims I didn’t verify my email when I clearly did..Version: 3.1.6

Almost perfect but not quiteI’ve moved away from the Google/Apple calendars because I don’t like having to click each day to see what I have going on. In this regard Fantastical is fantastic. I have a much better sense of what my day/week/month looks like, all on one convenient page. I don’t pay for the full version but have enjoyed the free version nonetheless. Though there are other minute issues others have pointed out in their reviews, I have one enormous gripe with this app. An annoyance big enough that it spurred me to write my first ever review: whenever you write the title for your appointment, for example, “Sally in webinar for vaccine information”, the app will automatically take “in webinar for vaccine information” and move it to “Location”, leaving your event titled “Sally.” I have to move the text from Location back into Title every single time. It doesn’t seem like that big a deal, but when you’re trying to schedule an appointment on the fly it’d be really nice not to have to take the extra time to REWRITE what you just wrote. App developers, I’m begging you, PLEASE change this! Or at least make it an adjustable setting!.Version: 3.3.7

New version feels like a step backLots of upgrade hooks littered through out. Not as compact of a design as before..Version: 3.2.1

Very Disappointed With Version 3!I used to love this app, but then Fantastical 2 was “upgraded” to version 3, earlier this year, and not only did I lose functionality, but the whole look and feel of the app is much worse than it used to be! I really don’t understand why they decided to make the dramatic backward changes they did! As for the change to a subscription model: I’m sorry, but this app doesn’t offer anything extra on a monthly basis that would make it worth paying over and over again, for a product that I was perfectly happy with before! There are apps for which a subscription model is appropriate, but this isn’t one of them! Subscriptions have just become a big money-making scheme for businesses that aren’t offering any added value for the money! I am now going to look for a better, nob-subscription based option..Version: 3.1.3

Was 5/5 star until...The subscription service came. Should have 2 separate apps, not downgrade Fantastical 2 users and put ads for the subscription everywhere. $52.99+ tax a year, forget it. $25/yr max, even then I’d probably skip it..Version: 3.0

Man, what a flip.I’ve been using this app since the beginning. Paid for v1 & v2. And now get saddled with a subscription base app. Really expensive when I compare it to Office365 which I pay the same for. Hardly a comparison. We make your company and now you gouge us. Time to leave..Version: 3.0.2

How to ruin a great appFantastical has been the best calendar app for many years and I depended on it for everything - until today and the new upgrade to F3. What made it great before was that it was just a kickass calendar. To the powers to be that obviously wasn’t enough. Now, it wants to be more and it’s a hard fail. The “premium service” reminders are already all over the place and will most likely drive me away. If I wanted something other than just a great calendar I would have had lots of options to choose from. Very, very disappointing. Not to mention that this initially was a premium product that now wants an extreme premium subscription or hound you with ads for it. I couldn’t be more unimpressed. Save your money and source other options, I’ll have to do the same..Version: 3.0

FrustratingI’ve loved Fantastical since version 1 and have paid for it on Mac, iPhone and iPad. I paid again for version 2 and it was worth every penny. Now I’m being hounded to pay £4.99/month to avoid constant nag screens to “upgrade” to features I used to have before. Despite the promise I would loose no functionality I find myself coming across the upgrade screen constantly when performing basic tasks. Although this is more so on my iPhone than on my iPad which has more functionality. Perhaps this is just a bug in the system. At the end of the day it’s just a calendar. £40/year is out of the question. Plus it no longer works on my Apple Watch. Flexibits you risk ruining your reputation. Calendars 5 from Readdle is the way forward for me..Version: 3.0

BloatwareUPDATE September 2020: I've been using the default Apple Calendar for many months now and what's remarkable is how weak the value proposition is for Fantastical in 2020. As I noted in my original review, it's *fine*. Little about Fantastical is revolutionary or, indeed, more useful than the default calendar these days. It certainly doesn't merit the steep price the developers are charging. If you download the app, you'll see its... ok. It's certainly not BAD. It's just a lot of features in search of a purpose being sold as a premium product when, at its core, it's simply an ok calendar. ORIGINAL: What used to be a clean and powerful alternative to a bloated but nonfunctional default calendar app now finds its situation exactly reversed. It's ok for what it is, but there is just no compelling case for the vast majority of people to spend money on Fantastical now, as it simply doesn't add meaningful value. If you want to support independent developers, great. They produce quality product, and Fantastical certainly isn't *horrible*. But it doesn't distinguish itself like it used to. It's merely ok. So I've moved on (to the default calendar app, much to my surprise)..Version: 3.2

WHHHHHHHYThis has been my favorite calendar app for YEARS. Most user friendly, organized, maximized screen usage. WHY IN THE WORLD does the month name default to a 500pt font and therefore make it so I can see only meetings underneath my calendar now. Horrible I wish I didn’t upgrade to this version and DEFINITELY not upgrading on my other phone. I’m addition now I have to add my accounts with calendars to fantastical vs using them through iOS on the app in order to send out an invitation to anyone? I am not going to add my accounts to your app- ridiculous! You have never needed my log in and password before as demonstrated by the last five years I have used the app. Hate this app now. Looking for a new one. Horrible. Horrible horrible. The worst. Someone clearly thought the large month looked “cool”. We are looking for functionality not aesthetics and in fact the aesthetics are horrible. Please let me maximize my screen usage on my phone so I can see my month and list of appointments below. With the upgrade I can see maybe two appointments yet with the old version can see 15. Horrible. I’m so mad this is on my work phone and almost as bad as apple’s native calendar now. ☹️☹️☹️😭😭😭😭😭whyyyyyyyyyyy.Version: 3.0.6

Bring back one time purchase modelNo subscription model.Version: 3.2.2

Used to be greatUpdate: Version 3.0.8 seems to have finally fixed the Apple Watch syncing. It’s too late for me though: I don’t trust Flexibits commitment to the “free” version now and I’ve found that Calendars 5 works well and is good value. The upgrade to Version 3 looks nice, but the forced creation of a free account is annoying. The subscription pricing is way too high, but I was prepared to continue with the free version. Unfortunately Version 3 has broken the Apple Watch app and complication, which either sync with the phone unpredictably or not at all. No response from support apart from an automated excuse about being really busy. I’m looking for a replacement now.Version: 3.0.8

RIP offThanks team! Great your took my money for an app that no longer works as it did. Thanks team! Version 2 was great worked great with my Apple Watch. Upgrade to version 3 and no longer works on Apple Watch. Day or so later new version of upgrade 3. Works on Apple Watch but not in the same way as before. Only one calendar now available. I need the two calendars that worked before on version 2. Ha! If you want that then pay £40 a year for software you already bought before. Thanks Team!! New upgrade again this morning. Apple Watch again stops working . Thanks team!! Want to see the whole year on your calendar - well you can’t until you pay !!! Thanks team. Congratulations on extracting money from people who have already payed. Uninstalled. Well done team!!.Version: 3.0.3

SEVERELY Disappointed in 3.0I’ve been a longtime supporter of Fantastical. Their products are notorious for having a premium price (both on Mac, and iOS platforms), and at that, you still have to purchase the app multiple times to use it on every platform. Needless to say, I bit the bullet and paid their premium price, on each platform, because it really is such a great app. That being said, I find it utterly mind-blowing that the already premium price was not enough, and the app has now transitioned to a subscription-based business model. This is completely ridiculous. Version 2 had minimal updates over the years (at least to justify re-paying annually), and I wouldn’t expect version 3 to offer valuable updates annually either - this is a calendar app, plain and simple. When other apps transition to subscriptions, it can make sense when there are server costs for holding the users’ data and running servers for the APIs - this is definitely not true for a calendar app (that sources data from third-party calendar providers). Granted it’s a great calendar app, but version 2 covers all of my needs quite effectively (and more). Again, the apps were expensive in the first place and I’ve been a loyal supporter, as I enjoy using this app. Switching to an annual subscription just screams money-grab. If you want more money, charge outright for version 3.0 and give PDF customers a heavy discount..Version: 3.0

Another (formerly) great app bites the dustFantastical used to be a robust and reliable calendar app. Unfortunately its developers have decided that fleecing their paying customers by bloating it out with features that require an account and a monthly subscription is more important than integrity and quality control. If you think the least developers who want to perpetually charge customers for a few crappy features could do is make sure their app works reliably, well, prepare to be disappointed. The devs love their customers so much they’ve let Fantastical become a buggy unreliable app while expecting us to give them money every month. The classic Today view widget doesn’t even work on iPhone anymore. It still works on iPad where it’s not as useful. Way to go guys 👍 Apple letting developers pull a bait and switch move to monthly subscriptions on customers who’ve already paid for an app is seriously lame. Imagine buying a car that works normally for a few months and then finding out you have to buy a monthly subscription to continue getting the fully functional vehicle you already paid for. It’s not an honest way of doing business. Letting developers charge monthly and even weekly subscription fees for basic features has filled the AppStore with crappy subpar apps and developers looking to make an easy buck fleecing their customers. Fantastical used to have a very high rating. Now it’s at 2.5 stars and falling. Stop ripping off your customers and fix your app and maybe it will rise again. If it’s not fixed in a few weeks I’m deleting it for good..Version: 3.2.2

High price for average appThe price is ridiculous but enough people have rented about that. What happened with me is that even though I paid for a year, I stopped using the calendar after a month and reverted back to native iOS. Creating events and inviting someone is way more tedious than the native app. When inviting people, it doesn’t remember last added contacts so I each time have to type the entire email address. There are other clocks needed that you don’t need in other apps just to get an entry going. Lastly, the invites that people get look different and the ‘accept’ button prompts them to google rather than accepting in app. All in all, I don’t use this app anymore -irrespective of whether it’s paid or for free….Version: 3.7.3

No grandfathering to people who paid?I get the switch to a subscription-based model — but what about the people who paid for it in the past? Moleskine’s Timepage app gave all members who paid for the app before the subscription began a free subscription. And Fantastical does nothing? Disappointed to say the least. Moreover, primary functionality features that existing users have paid for have been removed in lieu of the subscription. Not only is this wrong, but it’s a violation of section 3.1.2(a) point 7, of the App Store Review Guidelines..Version: 3.0.3

Killed the app with subscriptionFirstly, ignoring the actual 3.0 changes... whoever is in charge of Marketing at Flexibits wants firing. Basically rolled out a HUGE change to the fundamental premise of the app (an app funded by long-term users), without telling anyone, or giving them the chance to opt-out. As for Fantastical 3.0, I’m sure it will be remembered as an example of how not to do business and instantly kill your app. Most users loved version 2, and would happily have paid for an upgrade. Just needing a separate Flexibits account is too much, the beauty of Fantastical is that it sits on top of iOS Calendar. I don’t feel confident putting all my data in their hands. The less that’s said about the subscription model the better – sure there are power users that might want extras features, but most people don’t. They’ve clearly backtracked slightly already, but it’s too late for me, I’m deleting my account (which incidentally there’s no way to do easily) and, unbelievably, switching back to Apple’s Calendar app..Version: 3.0.2

New GUI is painful! Why just did you need to break a perfectly good user interface with this update. All-day events are squashed up at the top as slim lines, almost impossible to pick out a particular one with touchscreens (always get the wrong one!). Plus, you can't hide the day view when the left side has the calendar open, you basically double up on the same info. Moreover, when DAY is selected as display option, a full wide line is used up with dead space for each event. Looks hideous and so 80's! Not impressed with this update at all..Version: 3.0.4

It used to meet my needsI paid for this and valued it. Well, nothing lasts forever and I didn't expect all the fancy new features of the newer subscription versions, but I expected not to have ads for all the things I can't do shoved in my face while I try to use it. It's a shame as the endless quest for subscription cash - well beyond my means - sours my whole relationship with the app. I am now mostly back to using Apple calendar, which has improved in the meantime. Perhaps fantastical filled its niche, did its job, and now it's time to delete. **Response to devs** yes, I can still do everything I used to do, and thank you for keeping it updated for free when you could easily have abandoned it for a whole new app and left me behind two iOS versions ago. But I'd like an option in settings that hides all the things I haven't paid for because I seem to trip over paywalls all the time, which is the irritating part..Version: 3.6.5

DisappointedVery disappointed that you’ve gone to a subscription model. I would rather pay for an upgrade than pay 50 bucks a year. As more companies as yourselves move to subscriptions I will look for either other options that allow me to own the software or just simply use Apple’s default apps. I will not be updating this app..Version: 3.0

Not so Fantastical AnymoreSorry guys, I was a massive user of Fantastical 2 on my iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch and everything was working perfectly. Moving to a subscription based model is a big mistake and the redesign of this app is just horrible. After upgrading to version 3, my watch app doesn’t even work/sync with my iPhone anymore so renders the app useless to me for my day to day needs. There are too many subscriptions for apps these days and although I understand developers need to make money I simply refuse to pay a subscription for a calendar app that has become worse over time. It’s a shame now that I paid for version 2 as it was a worthy upgrade but with version 3, you’ve killed my favourite app and left your loyal customers hanging out to dry. Sorry guys but I’ll be moving to a different calendar app now. One that doesn’t get greedy charging monthly subscription fees for minimal upgrades and one that actually works on my watch. Fantastical WAS fantastic but now it’s a Fantastifail for me..Version: 3.0.2

Not happyUpdate: 1 March 2021 After multiple updates this app STILL cannot do the basics. Honestly why does it get the accolades it does? Widgets fail to load or display properly. If i remove or amend a reminder in apple’s reminder app it doesn’t correct itself in this app. Alerts will still go off. I have to open the Fantastical app to “resync” everything? Even with background app refresh on.!!!!! Have sent support email to developers and they did respond but no fixes. In fact there’s been a number of updates since but none correct the widget issue. Update: 1 February 2020 After two updates the iPhone STILL blocks standard options that are unlocked on the iPad. Even through the developers have stated that Fantastical 2 owners will be able to use this new version without restrictions. Mess of an app. I purchased Fantastical 2 for both my iPad and iPhone back in November of 2017. Two seperate purchases. Now my iPhone has upgraded to ver 3 without my knowledge. My iPad i had to upgrade manually. Could not use the iPad version as it wanted an account made. Something I hesitated to do. The iPhone version has basic settings that are locked and require a subscription BUT these same settings are not locked on the iPad. Was this app even bug tested? The layout is nice and clean and the weather option is nice but inaccurate for my country. I mean really inaccurate. Trying to stay with this app but frankly am looking at other calendar apps now. I hope they fix these issues for those of us that purchased their products only to find now we are being forced into money gouging subscriptions..Version: 3.3.5

New version is overall good butNew version is overall good but cluttered up with features you can’t use until you pay more money which feels pretty heavy handed and annoying. Please give me a way to hide all of the up sell options since I can’t use them..Version: 3.0.2

2.9 and Sinking Fast!!!It’s quite understandable why this is happening. Those of us that were loyal fans and customers of Fantasical and Fantastical 2 feel as though we have been cheated or duped with this move to the subscription model after having already paid for this app. Yes, it is said that we will keep all the features that we paid for on Fantastical 2, but this doesn’t seem to be the case with a number of customers, including myself. I’m terribly sorry to give such a low rating of one star to an app I have loved and relied upon for many years, but until I see the developers begin to respond to all the negative comments, this is where the rating stays. I hope Flexbits realizes that the fast decline in their rating is not helping them and that disappointed customers are hard to get back once they leave. Prospective customers read these reviews and rely upon them when making their decision to use/buy an app. Too many negative reviews are a real turn off, especially when they’re sudden and most current. It’s interesting to note that the developer has not commented or responded to very many of these negatives...very very few!!! It might better their situation if they did. But right now, sad...very sad!!!.Version: 3.0.3

Waiting 2 weeks for support to reply. Disgraceful.I’ve had an issue for some weeks now and I emailed support with an automated response but its been two weeks now and no reply as yet. This company has no regard for customers or supporting the issues they create. It only wants your money. Disgusting. I happily paid full price for the iPhone app. I happily paid full price for the iPad app (couldn’t use it as the UI was utterly horrible). Regular bug fixes, nice thank you. Now, without any warning you turn into a subscription app and current paid up users have no choice but to sign up for an account to let them take MY data and have it sit on their servers for anyone to hack!! Now you break the Apple Watch app too!! Get stuffed. They give you no option to opt out, they don’t give you any information on how your data is being stored. The don’t explain what security they have in place to protect our data. They treat their loyal customers like lab rats and don’t expect any blow back? You deserve to fail if this is what you think of your loyal customers. Whoever told you this was a great move, sack them! Sack them right now! Your dumb arrogance and greed has blinded your ration minds. Now suffer the consequences. I hope you read ALL the online reviews. Ignore them at your peril. Ta ta fantastical. You just screwed the pooch..Version: 3.0.13

Subscription Lost MeI was a fan of version 2, but this new subscription model has lost me. I will likely be finding a new calendar app that is free, or going back to the stock app..Version: 3.0

50$/year calendar?Lol on what planet does the dev team think they are. There is no justification in asking for such a price just for a calendar. 50$ a year for a calendar!? Seriously let that sink in for a minute... 50$.Version: 3.0.2

Great app but RIDICULOUSLY overpriced!I can’t work how they thought this app was worth this.Version: 3.2.2

Account + Annual Subscription RequiredI accidentally hit Update All. Hello v3. Here is just SOME of my experience: First, while F3 provides new functionality, much is misguided. E.g. Adding weather doesn’t make a better calendar, it‘s just more info. Second, as a past purchaser, I do NOT have access to all the functionality I had with F2. Their claim is misleading. Basic electronic calendar functionality provides day/week/month/year views. Now, I have to pay a subscription fee for this. Third, there are sooo many bugs now, and F3 randomly ditches my events after entry. There is a great deal of development, complexity, and ongoing infrastructure cost required to support the new functionality in F3. This should have been where a subscription was applied, not for preexisting functionality. Flexibits’ AppStore responses are confusing and simply don’t make sense. Most don’t match the comments they’re attached to, almost as if they are replying to wrong comment. Lately, some responses are short and have attitude, like bitter retorts. Unfortunately, they haven’t replied to the overwhelming majority. This is such a lost opportunity. Why have I bothered to write such long reviews? It’s simple: bugs aside, Fantastical 2 was by far the best calendar app in the AppStore! F2 was an integral part of my workflow. F3? Unfortunately, my new rating stands, and I deleted the app. ——— This app now requires a Flexibits account + annual subscription. NO to both! I had been using Fantastical for several years, but no longer. When switching monetization methods from “pay once” to subscription, they clearly upset most customers. I personally believe they should have left Fantastical 2 as its own app and launched Fantastical 3 separately on the App Store. However, I don’t think most customers would have purchased the subscription, and v3 wouldn’t have benefited from all the positive v2 reviews. Well, I guess the plummeting rating shows how well that ploy worked. Fantastical 3 is drastically over-priced. Fantastical provides/hosts neither the calendar service nor the tasks service. They simply connect to an existing service (which has its own cost) using Apple’s provided connection functionality. Sure, they do a nice job displaying and organizing, and they provide a little more flexibility with reminders than Apple does, but is it worth paying over $60 (with tax) a year? Not in my book. I don’t care about including the weather forecast in a calendar app. It’s already natively built into my phone, which includes a widget, and I also have The Weather Network’s app installed for when I want more detail or alerts. This is not a selling feature for a calendar. Natural language entry? It’s far too buggy. I can enter precise event details faster without it, and when I do use their natural language functionality, it too often misinterprets details, which forces me to then manually edit and correct the event anyway. What’s the point? If it took longer to manually enter details, I really don’t think I’d suffer the loss of a few seconds out of my life. What is very frustrating is when I manually correct the errors, and then complete the event, and it dumps the event instead of saving it. (An option to turn on/off NL entry would have saved me the repeated grief.) Looking at the latest fixes, Flexibits finally fixed *some* of the issues that have been plaguing me since I first started using Fantastical. I’m not upgrading to v3, so no fixes for me. All the other bugs are still there ... plus many new issues. If Flexibits had forked Fantastical 3, so it was a separate, one-time purchase, I would have purchased it, even if just to support further development, except ... Under NO circumstances will I ever use this software if I’m required to create a Flexibits account — especially considering that it offers zero added functionality, it now requires that I put my personal data on yet another 3rd-party’s servers, and the only real reason they’re doing this is to try and circumvent Apple’s policy of family members being able to share App Store accounts, meaning that each user will need to pay for the app. Fantastical 2 users retain all of their previous functionality? Read the other reviews with examples of where this is clearly NOT the case. Note the comments about all the subscription nagging. Who over at Flexibits who thought this was a good strategy? Even worse, who signed off on it? Swallow your pride. Get rid of the subscription, and charge a flat rate. Get rid of the need for an account! You clearly see the trend and customer responses. Do you think it’s going to suddenly improve? And for heaven’s sake, fix all the damned bugs already, instead of adding more. ——————— Original review: Fantastical is a much better calendar app than Apple's, but that isn't saying much given how little effort Apple puts into their base iOS apps. Fantastical is still buggy, and these are the same bugs that have been there since I started using it (events that change date once saved, events that disappear on save and have to be recreated, inconsistent results in the AI when creating the same event on different days, and some small things that escape me right now). Thankfully, these don't happen too often, but it causes me to have to double-check every time to be sure, and it can be frustrating when someone is being patient enough to wait as I schedule an appointment with them, only to have to start over. Still, it's MUCH better than Apple's, and it's better than others I've tried. Requests: Fix the bugs. Provide a preference toggle in settings to set the default for an All Day Event, so I can shut that off. I almost never set events as All Day, so I always have to turn that off when creating new events. Integrate To Do with providers other than Apple's. (Google's would be nice.) Apple's may be an easy add-on, but it's wasted for the greater number of people using the much more widely used services out there..Version: 3.0.12

Subscription? For a calendar app? No thanks.I’ve previously purchased older versions of Fantastical and although good, it was never quite right for my requirements. Noticed that there was now a version 3 and decided to revisit the app, to see what has changed. It appears that the major change for this version is that the developers have decided to try and gouge users with a subscription model, and require a seperate sign in. Seriously? An ongoing subscription to display my calendar? It’s not like you are hosting them. The price of the subscription itself is also ridiculously high - I pay less for some video streaming services, and they actually provide content. And the requirement to sign in? Yet another company wanting my private details for no good reason. I definitely won’t be subscribing, and won’t be revisiting again..Version: 3.4.3

A year and some later…Still hate the fact that you guys went subscription… What a shame… Once been a great app… Now… Worthless….Version: 3.3.10

Absolutely disappointed with the change to subscription based pricingI’ve been a Fantastical user for several years, purchasing version 1 and 2 for iOS as well as 1 and 2 on Mac and though I do like the UI, I am disgusted with the trend of moving to subscriptions vice 1 time purchase. Sure, I get the same features in version 3 as I did in version 2 but if I would like to try (and probably keep it long term) any of the new features, my only option is to subscribe to a CAD$52.99/yr service for A CALENDAR APP??? After I’ve already paid over CAD$100 for previous purchases? Is flexibits aware of what competitors are offering? Readdle offers their Calendars 5 app for a 1 time purchase of $9.99 and then a feature like “interesting calendars” in 3 options; 1 month subscription for under $1, 3 month for under $3 or LIFETIME for under $10. Sure, this app is not quite as pretty but arguably more functional. Say I use a calendar app for 2 years, is the pretty interface with equivalent features really worth $100 more than the competition? Nope. Say I use it for 6 years and the competitor charges $10 every 2 years for major version upgrades; Fantastical @ $212 vs competitor at $30. I know which I’m going with and it isn’t Fantastical. The settings are now littered with “premium features”, such as time to leave alerts and slight tweaks to the calendar and prompts to buy the subscription. Slight tweaks are not worth hundreds of dollars over time when the default apps are constantly improving and already offer time to leave alerts. I hope you’ll reconsider your pricing strategy. I would pay up to $19.99 for a premium CALENDAR app that is supported for at least 2 years but I’m done with subscriptions and done with this app until that time..Version: 3.0.2

So much ⭐️ fail everywhere nowI had bought the Mac and iPad/phone/watch versions of this once-great app, but now I have to pay an extra $40 per year to keep the features I'd already had? Technically Agilebits has added in a lot of new stuff (that I'm not the target market for and don't care about), but old stuff has gone missing. For instance, did you used to change your "Start Week View On: Monday" setting? That's $40 now. That one feature isn't that big of a deal, but it's a death by a million cuts. Also, even though I paid a lot of money for the previous version, now my whole app is littered with little red ⭐️ icons showing the stuff I could be using if only I weren't now tagged as a cheapskate. The stock calendar app isn't great, but it costs $40 a year less and isn't trying to upsell me to the full version all throughout the app. I'm absolutely certain that there are people who need these new features, but I'm only willing to pay so much for what to me comes down to a prettier UI. Sorry, Fantastical, but I've deleted you from all my devices. You'll be missed (but not $40 per year much)..Version: 3.0

Greed will be your downfallDon’t force upgrades on people who spent money to purchase a complete app. Shame on you..Version: 3.0

You lost meYou lost me with this subscription upgrade. I paid for the product since the beginning, but now it’s really expensive for what I need. Going back to Calendar..Version: 3.0

Another App Ruined By A Subscription ModelBeen using this for years and it’s always been my go to calendar and watch complication. Barring a few update glitches it has performed admirably. Now the latest update removes features I’ve already paid for in a previous version and new UI aside this just isn’t worth the monthly charges. Why remove the watch app or the ‘time to leave’ alerts when they were there before? Why couldn’t you just leave it alone or charge another one off for v3 with the ability to buy your new features as in app purchases? Your desktop app was nearly £50 and now you want nearly £39 (per year!) to use an app I only want on my iPhone. I’d happily have paid again for a standalone iOS app. Right now the in built Apple Calendar is looking like I might be dusting it off and trying again. It’s come some way since I stopped using it to go to Fantastical. Maybe it’ll do. And it’s free. Update: Switched to the £6.99 Readdle Calendars 5 and it’s like having a proper calendar back again! No nagging, no accounts, working watch complications. All good. Apart from a couple of functional differences I’m really pleased and won’t be going back..Version: 3.0.3

Great app turned poor due to greed. This was hands-down the best calendar and task app. Cleanest interface with great controls, and then the “overly generous” devs started to do a subscription model. I get it, you gotta make money to run a business- but this was clearly the wrong decision as I have seen this app go from 5 stars to 2 stars in rating. There must be an alternative such as raising the one-time-fee up and not requiring login to their account system. I’m more than willing to pay a subscription if other calendar apps aren’t doing the same thing as this app, with a little less flair. I’ve deleted this and moved on to something else..Version: 3.3.4

Ruined a great appSo disappointed at the recent changes...going to be looking for an alternative. I didn’t pay 60+ dollars for the Mac and iPhone apps to now have to pay even more for a subscription. This used to be the best app on the market and now it’s ruined..Version: 3.0.2

Scummy business modelTracking the updates: more “features” added over the past 6 months that don’t add any benefit to a calendar app! I used this app since sometime in 2013. Thankfully forgot to do the update to the new subscription model, but I’ll never give them any more of my money. I hope more users vote 1 star on here to save others the time of finding out for themselves. I’ll be looking for something else that does better while my version of this is eventually killed off..Version: 3.1.5

Greedy jerksApp was great now they went down the rabbit hole of trying to make you pay a subscription to change the damn icon...like really? I’ve been such a fan of this app now I can’t wait to find a replacement. This is what happens when a small company produces a good app they get greedy. I’m not paying for this app twice you money stealing jerks..Version: 3.0.6

UnfortunateI used to rave about fantastical and how it’s the best calendar app available on iOS. It’s now been a year since we were forced in to a new update that stripped previously paid for features and turned in to a subscription model. Not impressed..Version: 3.4

Not sure why review websites love version 3Fantastical was my favorite iOS calendar app by far. I liked the UI and the ease to input events, see event info at a glance, and most useful, provided Time To Leave reminders for my appointments that included travel. Fantastical had published many different times that ALL features from version 2 remained accessible to those customers who would choose not opt-in to their subscription model. This is not true. In "fine print" at the bottom of a web page they admit that there are two features not carried over to legacy users, one of which is Travel Time. No longer having access to this feature is truly a deal breaker for me. Apple's native iOS calendar app has this feature but it is not as easily executed as Fantastical's and doesn't have event color coding for different calendars but I'm going back to it since I can't use Fantastical as efficiently and I also CAN'T STAND the new home screen appearance. IT'S UGLY and DISTRACTING. Flexibits, I will not move to a subscription for your products but please at least consider giving back Travel Time to your legacy users, or fully disclose up front that that's a feature you did revoke, and offer a UI skin of version 2 as it was much nicer to look at. I'd re-review your product with higher stars if you do that..Version: 3.0.6

Overpriced subscription modelThey’ve taken what once was a decent calendar app and monetized it to no end. It’s way overpriced for the functionality that you get, and there are far better alternative options out there that are cheaper and have less bugs. Who needs the weather on a calendar app? Who doesn’t have a specific weather app on their device?.Version: 3.3.3

Default Reminders Don’t WorkAfter scouring online reviews, I bought this app for the sole purpose of being able to set up multiple alerts to remind you of events in your calendar. It would even appear that you can set up to five default alerts at different time intervals which I was initially so excited about. However every time I set up a new calendar event, the default alert reverts to the one set closest to the event and the rest don’t work. Needless to say the function is no better than outlooks singular reminder for events. I wasn’t able to find any online help topics on this either. It’s a complete waste of money for me and sorely disappointing as I thought I had finally found a solution to what I needed which is a calendar that has the ability to create multiple default reminders for events..Version: 2.9.8

Agenda Has a Better Subscription ModelUpdate: Thank you for the reply. Still only two stars for your subscription plan. Nowhere in your reply did you address my suggestions. What you are offering is a subscription in perpetuity. I would gladly pay for any updates that you roll out over a given period of time, say one years time, if it allowed me to keep all those updates that happen in that time period without the obligation to continue paying for the next years updates. Again, look at the Agenda app and how they structured their pricing plan. I honestly think you would win back some burned customers. Fantastical is a nice piece of software, but the new subscription model is a big turn off. The Agenda app is free, with no time limits. There are also extra premium features that require purchase to unlock. When an upgrade is purchased, all current features are permanently unlocked across all of the user’s Macs and iOS devices. The purchase is good for one year and all updates that they roll out you have access to. After the year is up you can choose to upgrade or not, but you get to keep the software that you’ve paid for. You don’t automatically lose access to your calendar. If fantastical switched to that style of subscription, I would be much more inclined to stay with them..Version: 3.1.4

No Longer The BestIt is unfortunate that I got sucked in and paid for a yearly subscription, and now with the latest update the app is asking for my password every two minutes. I don’t have time for this. Fix the app or refund my money..Version: 3.5.1

Ruined by subscriptionThis used to be my go to calendar app, but not anymore! You removed features that I paid for in version 2 and now I get constant nagging to subscribe to remove all of these newly introduced artificial limitations in version 3. Uninstalled from my iPhone, iPad & MacBook..Version: 3.3.10

No longer full featuredIf you want a sure fire way to miss meetings updates and new event invites, get this app. Unless you subscribe for $60 a year, calendar updates don’t get pushed to your device. Sad that this app is held back by a subscription, wish they could just charge a higher up front price..Version: 3.3.3

I agree with everyone elseNew design - OK, I guess, but not necessary. The subscription model is a joke though. While the features I had are still there, I am now plagued by things I cannot do which require a subscription. This is bugging me a lot. The update was pushed on my iPhone, so I cannot revert to what was working for me. So it’s been deleted. Back to Apple Calendar, I think. Options might’ve been: release this as a separate App and offer the benefits for existing users if they upgrade (see how Omnifocus moved from one version to another for hints). Or, at least make the ‘upgrade’ to 3 optional (not pushed) so that users could make the choice (see 1Password). To force users to use a subscription-based app when they’ve paid for something else is just not thinking about customers. So, flexbits. You’re on the list now....Version: 3.0

Please give option to disable natural language!Natural language input is great, however sometimes you want to set a reminder that at a glance you can read with a time but natural language corrects it and can’t be disabled - For example ‘Meet Bill for shopping at 3pm’ - I may want this to be an entry with an alert for 1pm to remind me this is coming yet Fantastical will change it to ‘Meet Bill for shopping’. Other apps like Due do this, however you can tap and get it to revert to original text AND have the effect of the natural input.Version: 3.2.1

Useless With Persistent Pop-up AdSince the pop-up Ad for the new premium version 3 can NOT be disabled, it is a disruptive intrusion that turns Fantastical into an unpleasant experience rendering the app USELESS! Subscription model is just another curse on the human race. It’s limited lifespan expected to implode Tech 3.0 within the next few years as even power users are opting out of all but what they consider their essential 10 subscriptions for everything. If App or Software development is your gig, you’d better hope that whatever it is that you develop is considered by users as one of the 3-4 most important Apps or Software in existence. Otherwise, the subscription model your banking on is “the wrong economic business model (Forbes, Oct. 2019).” The Wall Street Journal’s recent advice to consumers is to stop wasting money on all but “the essential few subscriptions.” Apple has been the most egregious and irresponsible party in their promoting the subscription based economy for mobile app development. They see it as a win-win scenario for themselves as they no longer have to put in concerted efforts in developing unique built in features to iOS. They like having independent developers do their work for them..Version: 3.0.6

Long time user but no longerThe new design is nice, and I would’ve paid to buy it if the option was available. I was happy to keep using it and put up with the reminders for the premium subscription until I tried to enter in travel time for an event. It’s a premium feature, fine, but it’s also a stock standard Apple Calendar feature and you’re blocking me from using it because you want my money. I get you’re trying to run a business but blocking standard Calendar features to try and trick me into thinking I need to pay your idiotic subscription price? No way. Just deleted Fantastical, hope you can make your new business model work before you run out of users..Version: 3.0.6

Missing some featuresI like the app and it looks nice, but some features I need are missing. I would like to be able to reorder my tasks in the order I would like to do them (without assigning a specific time). Instead, they are in alphabetical order. I also wish I didn’t have to create a task 4 times to have it repeat weekly every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. There is not an option to choose which days the task applies to, so I have to create a task for each day I need it on and set it to repeat weekly. This is cumbersome. Also, I use the reminders app on Apple Watch and created a Fantastical calendar set without tasks for my watch so tasks wouldn’t show on my lists—this is because the reminders app shows MUCH more of the text whereas Fantastical only shows a word or two on the watch, making me click/tap into each task to see what I need to do. I also wish I could disable day and week views on the iPhone. They are far too cluttered so I just use Calendar and Dayticker views, which are functional and beautiful..Version: 3.3.6

Now useless!!After version 3 update my Apple watch refuses to sync. Constant nagging to pay greedy subscription price. This app, which I have used for a long time, is now USELESS. Goodbye..Version: 3.0

Look at all the 1 star reviews!Does anyone else think it suspicious that there are so many 1 star reviews and then out of the blue a random 5 star saying that all the other reviews are just whingeing. Hmmm yeah. Its not. Devs got greedy and now they are feeling the backlash. Already using a better alternative so hopefully the entire operation goes down the toilet and they can learn a lesson on not stealing from customers. Because thats what they did. This isn't about paying devs fairly because everyone already paid £10 for the app. If thats not enough to cover your costs then it should've been freemium from the start. You don't change once already out there and remove functionality from the people who paid for those functions..Version: 3.0.3

Stay away.Yesterday I had a fully functioning app that synced great with my watch. A nice little vibration to remind me of a meeting. Today I’m constantly being nagged to subscribe to premium. I was late for a meeting because there was no handy vibration. Why? Because of an auto-update that has ruined this software. Want to sync to an Apple Watch, well now you need to create an account in their server. And the developer is being “overly generous” (their actual words in a Tweet) in giving the F2 users all the functionality they had & then some. I paid for those features, I expect to keep them if you’re forcing a new version on me. If I could give them 0 stars I would..Version: 3.0

The sheer arrogance and audacity of this developer is beyond belief!I paid full price for this app and today without notice, I am no longer able to use it without creating an account with the developer. I don’t want to create an account, but I am now unable to use this app that I paid FULL PRICE FOR any longer without being bullied into creating an account. Beyond this, they are now telling me I also need to PAY A SUBSCRIPTION on top of the FULL PRICE I ALREADY PAID THEM! Absolutely, absolute rip off and theft. Don’t have anything to do with this ridiculous app. Use the Apple Calendar or Calendars 5 instead..Version: 3.0

This application had a place on my phone and iPad for yearsSame page as everyone else ... a one time charge i would of did to get some of the features and just pay for the time they spent on the facelift ... now i have a paid application that has advertisements of premium all over it. Every calendar on the market has multiple views, customizable icons, even weather options with no subscriptions... it worked good at what it did .. now they added many bells and whistles that the average person might not want with an elaborate subscription price tag. Maybe they should make feature based purchases ... you want custom home screen icon and 10 day forecast, 1.99 one time purchase. Why would i pay a monthly fee for that. I can see many people jumping ship and many long time customers choosing elsewhere. Maybe its not too late for them to change their price structure before people start purchasing other calendar apps for a one time price. For the business person that can fully unlock this apps power it’s worth it. But for personal user that maybe wants to be to customize alert sounds, calendar views & colors, Home Screen icon, that should just be one time charges for UI appearances..Version: 3.7.1

Crashes on Apple WatchDoes not work, crashes after opening.Version: 2.5

I don’t appreciate being lied toOn the Fantastical website it says, and I quote: “If you’re using Apple Reminders, Todoist, or your calendar service has tasks built in, then you can get everything into your calendar. If a task has a specific time it’s due, then it will appear on your calendar exactly when it’s due”. If you try to use Google Tasks with the app, this isn’t what happens. A task with a time set always appears at the top of the screen, not at the time it’s set to. This is on the Apple Watch. On the iPhone app, Google Tasks simply don’t show at all in the day view, even when the option is specifically enabled. However, if you use Todoist (another subscription based app) everything works fine. What a surprise. I recommend not supporting yet another subscription based app that doesn’t need to be, especially one that’s prioritising development features for paid apps over free ones. You can use Google Calendar + Google Tasks to provide equivalent functionality for free as this and Todoist, and those two apps are cross-platform and completely free..Version: 3.6.4

Don’t appreciate the liesSorry but it’s a no for me . Sneaky app.Version: 3.3.3

Ruined by the subscription modelOh great now you can’t set what day of the week you want the week to start at. I paid good money for this app last year for you people to ruin your app just so you can make your business more ‘sustainable’. I want to know – for £40/year, what possible improvements are you going to add to the app? How? You can’t reinvent the wheel when it comes to apps, so I sincerely doubt you’ll be adding any good new features or that I’ll be paying for ‘continued development’. So this is basically just a racket – sorry ‘access’ to a ‘service’. Well I have bad news for you: the reason why Microsoft and Adobe can get away with this business strategy is that they are monopolists. They can and do exploit their customers without consequences. By punishing your long term customers (like why not just publish Fantastical 3 as a new app and let me keep my purchase of Fantastical 2?) you’ve guaranteed myself and many others will *never* spend money on your app or company again. A shame as you used to have a great app.Version: 3.0.1

Really disappointed with Fantastical 3There is a horrible upgrade. Features they claim were remaining active from Fantastical 2 are not active completely. Had to completely disable calendars from iOS in favor of logging in using a iCloud app-specific-password account, and creating a “free” flexibits account. The free flexibits account is a joke!! All it does is ask me to upgrade to a premium subscription, with no other account settings to mess with. I don’t even have the option to change my account password. Update my email address, etc..., let alone let me see what is actually syncing or what it is doing. This is completely unacceptable. I have also had to completely remove the Apple Watch app for fantastical as it no longer shows any data about my appointments or events. Also it first stated I had to log into my free account to sync anything at all.... what the hell?? I thought all fantastical 2 features were still accessible?? Also the large complication no longer shows events or appointments just the day and date, I have the default watch day and date complication for that!! Seriously, horrible. And you want me to pay for premium features?!?!? How can I trust those will work if your so called free features no longer are useable??!?.Version: 3.0

Fantastical 2 was betterI was impressed with the UI design, the integration with my Apple Watch (which was one of its more useful features to me) and the smart look of the app. I was quite happy to pay for the version of Fantastical 2 I had and continue to use it this way. However, Fantastical 3 came out and I was forced to upgrade to the new unaffordable subscription model. With that I lost the acces to my Apple Watch. The developers claim that fantastical 2 users will have access to it on Apple Watch. This is not true- it has never worked for me on my watch. I would have preferred keeping the fantastical 2 version as it did everything I needed but had no choice. I have now had to switch to using Apple calendar on my watch so am quite disappointed..Version: 3.1.1

Not a FanWhen I originally purchased this app a year ago, I was happy I finally found a calendar that could do it all. Not so happy with the recent changes forcing everyone to move to a subscription model. Features I originally paid for are now all gone and I’m being forced to get the subscription to get the features back. If there was a way to switch back to the original app, I would 100% just do that..Version: 3.3.4

RIP FantasticalThis app has been stolen from existing users and replaced with some buggy freemium garbage. I literally feel sick seeing what has been done to this app. No respect shown to existing users. The excuse that existing features work does not cut it when the app is clearly designed to make you feel like you are getting a nerfed version unless you pay for an expensive subscription. I want a refund and an apology..Version: 3.0.3

Shame!!!I like many others purchased full price the pro version and had no issues. Then the subscription method came in to the app and the developers completely ignored that and made EVERYONE start from fresh. I purchased it literally just before the subscription method but hey that’s life. Deleted. Edit: I went back to Fantastical after a long hiatus thinking about cost etc but then succumbed to its amazing use and little extras that make this app great. Yes I subscribed to another year but literally after the year is nearly up I get email informing me hat the subscription is going up by nearly 60%. Again it seems it’s just about money money. I understand developers have to make a living etc and things cost but I cannot justify again more money for this calendar app. Sorry but yet again I’ll be leaving and deleting, but this time for good. Very sad day indeed..Version: 3.7.7

Increase in subscription cost without adding valueLet me preface this with the following: - I’m not against subscriptions. If it means developers have an ongoing income and make my app better - I’m happy to support them. - I didn’t have an issue with Fantastical switching to this model from the original. So far so good. Now - what I DO have a problem with, is the price of this sub going from 65/year AUD to 100. Broken down over a monthly cost that might not seem too bad, but they aren’t the only app charging 65/year. The monthly bill adds up quick. And simply put, the increase comes for very little increase in value. Few genuinely meaningful feature updates. Cardhop (which is also part of the sub) feeling almost lite abandonware and having a terrible Mac interface. It comes down to the value proposition no longer making sense, when it’s just one tool of many in a pro’s toolbox. Would flexibits rather have 65 dollars of mine in their account, - or zero? And is it genuinely worth losing customer numbers and goodwill for a few extra bucks, without a sensible justification?.Version: 3.7.5

Great app, widgets need improvementThanks for the great app - predictive functionality adding events makes usage very streamlined (as long as you confirm what the app has predicted before adding the event) BUT the widgets need improvement - too much blank space, especially in calendar+event list views, where it will often display, for eg. “two all-day events” where there is a lines worth of space underneath that statement so surely it should just display both events???! Perhaps even being able to adjust the font size in widgets to fit in more text would be great. Otherwise thank you, long time loyal user!.Version: 3.7.6

Well, this is unwelcomeThe latest update, 3.0, was very much an unwelcome change. While the UI improvements are excellent, and visually it’s pleasant to work with, this update completely broke Apple Watch support unless you sign up for a new account. The app begs for subscription *constantly*. The Office365 integration asks for email permission??? Overall a calendar app I couldn’t recommend enough has become an app that I now have to replace with a tool that *works*.Version: 3.0

Zero respect for paying customersSo we pay for an app and now you want us to pay for it again? If you want to switch the subscription model that's fine but leaving your existing PAYING customers in the dust is despicable..Version: 3.0

Fed up with subscriptionsFed up with the subscription models.Version: 3.6.7

Used to love it, when it workedI have been a fan and user of Fantastical for 5 yrs+. I use it on a Mac, iPhone and IPad. Recent ‘improvements’ since IOS 13 have made it unusable and I’ll be looking for a replacement if the next update doesn’t return the functionality back to how it was. It’s desperately slow to acknowledge inputs, if it registers them at all. It’s slow to launch, it freezes, it gives error dialogs to say it cannot update items due to the ‘helper application’? I have really enjoyed using this and the benefits for me were huge in terms of organisiaon if tasks and calendar in one place. Today it simply doesn’t do what it is supposed to be for. I am using Fanrastical 2 on an iPhone 8. It’s frankly pitiful so I won’t be spending any more money on it and waiting for an improvement. I have waited long enough to make this judgement: it’s broken and there is no serious will on the developers part to fix it..Version: 3.0.6

Too expensiveThe app itself is pretty good, but the subscription is just not worth the money when the Mac version is worthless to me..Version: 3.4.3

Now we pay?I get Office 365 for the same amount. Fantastical, you’re good, but not that good. Time to delete..Version: 3.0

The last strawI’ve been a Fantastical user for 5 years. I paid for the app in full and use it across all my devices. Then they introduced the subscription model and along with it, a fee that is simply eye-watering. A lot of standard features suddenly commanded a premium. But the ‘free’ version retained all the features I really needed so I figured I’d stick with it. The devs must have read my mind, because the one feature I really loved was the Apple Watch syncing. It was really handy to see my next meeting on right there on the watch face…except now you can’t without subscribing. So that’s it, you’ve lost a fan and a customer..Version: 3.4.3

Major bait and switchFor those of us that bought the app when it was a one-off purchase, we have now been locked out of basic features (can’t invite attendees, can’t see hidden events). We also now need to transmit our calendar data to the developers to get sync working with the watch like it was before. This move to subscription with no warning was a really scummy move - jamming constant ads to upgrade in a premium app - and I for one can’t support this kind of developer behaviour. I want my money back, and I’m going to something else..Version: 3.0

I do not trust this appI set up meetings ... they sometimes get sent, they sometimes don’t. It’s bug ridden, unreliable, and I paid $70+ for a year’s subscription. Yes it looks nice, but I don’t trust it..Version: 3.0.13

Watch won’t syncI really want an app that combines calendar with reminders, and has a useful and useable watch complication. Stumbled across fantastical and just about cheered! But despite opening the mobile app as directed and even holding my phone right beside my watch, they won’t sync, so the app is the next closest thing to useless for me right now (I can’t use my phone at work, and my PC is shared often enough that I don’t want to be setting up my schedule and reminders on it). I have a sneaking suspicion this is to do with iOS 14, so I’ll keep an eye on this and try again, but for now... no joy..Version: 3.1.6

Embarrassing ProblemsThis app tries to be helpful with several shortcut features, but they often take effect without notice and actively create scheduling issues as a result. 1) When creating an event, if you make the mistake of putting numbers anywhere in the title, the date and/or time of the event will be changed automatically. This is a very frustrating an unnecessary feature that often creates major problems. If I select October 1 and create a new event, I do not want or need that date to be changed automatically. This feature actively sabotages a basic scheduling task. 2) Time zone shift. This is an embarrassing disaster. If you travel outside your timezone, all of your event times will shift automatically and create massive confusion. 3) Start/end time shifts. If an all-day event is multiple days long and you change the start day, the entire event will be shifted automatically instead of just the start day that you are changing. This, again, creates confusion and incorrect scheduling if you do not happen to double check every setting after making the specific adjustment. 4) Same problem with start and end times. Changing the start time of any event will automatically change the end time. It is exhausting trying to quickly schedule events when making a single adjustment results in silent, automatic changes elsewhere. I have to stop using this app because it has burned me too many times in too many various ways..Version: 3.8.2

Rip offFirst we had to pay for the app they now offer for free and added a subscription. Screw that’s use some other calendar app instead of this money grupping app..Version: 3.0

A Real RipoffI paid for this app about 5 years ago. Now the company has unilaterally blocked me from using it unless I pay a subscription. The company has not given previous buyers any alternative like continuing to use my purchase, or buying the new version. In the meantime Apple’s Calender app has been improved so much, I recommend like me, you all DITCH FANTASTICAL AND USE APPLE’S CALENDAR..Version: 3.0

Subscription= DeletedAnother app destroyed by nonsense subscription model. I gladly paid for every update when it was one off price. now you want me to pay monthly to be able to see a year overview? insane! there is definitely type of software that can justify subscription. Those are complex packages that are for professionals which make them money or help them run business! Fleet vehicle tracking, Photoshop, MS Office, etc... Before Apple allowed this idiocy on the app store, developers were happily making apps for one payment. Now they all think they deserve to be paid monthly. You want more money??? Make more good simple apps and let people buy them. Why should i pay monthly for calendar app? Which i already paid for, anyway? This totally puts me off from buying any app these days. I pay now and tomorrow devs decide to flip the switch and start asking me for money all the time. Garbage approach to customers..Version: 3.0

Have to pay again?Bought this app years ago and now they moved their model to in-app subscriptions. They should have grandfathered in those who paid already..Version: 3.3.7

Once a fantastic app... now just a disappointment. It was great, until the developers got greedy and started charging for options you could use before or new options that don’t justify the premium cost. Paid for the iOS and Mac version and now they ask me to pay more again on a subscription basis. It is really too bad and really disappointing that it has come to this.... hope it was worth it.. you lost a loyal Fantastical user that supported you from the start..Version: 3.0.2

Sneaky app replacement by devI’m fine if a developer wants to introduce a new version of its app with subscription-based features. The market can decide if it’s the right move. However, what Flexibits did was borderline unethical. Instead of launching a new app, it effectively switched all of its customers to a new and different app by pushing it out as a regular software update. Now users who paid full price for the app are stuck with a different app which is full of prompts to pay for a subscription. Now it feels like one of those free apps that’s constantly trying to get you to upgrade, except in this case you’ve already paid. Since there’s no easy way to roll back to a previous version you’re stuck with the new one. Flexibits, if you’re confident in your product put it out there and let people switch over to the new version on their own - if it offers compelling value they’ll do it - but don’t do a middle of the night bait and switch. I’m not opposed to subscriptions because I respect that developers need to earn a living, but the way you’re treating loyal users is really poor. I had actually been considering buying one of your other apps but you’ve lost my trust as a customer..Version: 3.4.4

Used to be greatGot this app for its complication on Apple Watch. Used to work great. Since they made it that you had to sync data via flexibits account the sync stopped working. Reinstalled app, reset sync, reset calendars. Nothing worked. Disappointing. Got the free Apple calendar + watch complication now. Works fine as well. I am iPhone XR and Apple Watch 2 user..Version: 3.0.7

Fantastical no longer Fantastic1) The new subscription model is terrible: the features aren’t worth $5 per month. 2) I already paid for an app that worked for me and you decided to replace that with a free version that bugs you to subscribe all the time. 3) It is no longer syncing with my Apple Watch. They “know it’s broken, and they are working on it.” Which means they know it’s not working but they still want you to pay a subscription in the meantime lol 4) they want you to have an account with them even to use the free version. Everyone wants your data these days... now they do too. Don’t worry though, you can “trust them” with your data just as you “trusted them” by paying for an app that they replaced with adware..Version: 3.0

Brilliant but buggyThis app is essential to my workflow, and I use it daily. Having tasks and calendar together is essential for me. However I’ve been disappointed by the degree of bugs for an app that has been around as long as Fantastical. In particular, the home screen widget doesn’t update – showing tasks and events from several days ago instead of today. I’ve contacted support for this but after weeks of waiting I have no solution. Reminders are also buggy, often freezing the app. Great potential, but it needs some love..Version: 3.6.5

Not happy anymoreNot happy with the new changes in v3 and I am not a fan of the subscription model. I would rather have the choice to pay for an upgrade or stick with an older version. I hope you may reconsider this switch. Time to find something else to use....Version: 3.0

Niche UI design issue sent me back to the native appI really wanted to like Fantastical (for iOS), and I used it as long as I could until one small UI design issue fouled me up for the umpteenth time: When looking at the calendar view at the top half of the iPhone screen and the list view is at the bottom, it REALLY messes me up that if you pick a date that has nothing on it the list view, while updating to that particular date (showing nothing on the list), it also shows the continued list, showing the next day or days (depending on how many event entries you have). Three times in the span of a week I went to schedule business meetings and travel plans, believing I was looking at events on, say, a Tuesday, when the list was showing Tuesday (no events) and then a list for Wednesday (with a couple meetings already set) right beneath it. I didn’t notice Tuesday was empty. It catches me EVERY time I go to look for availability and find an empty day right next to a busy day. I’ve reluctantly switched back to the native iOS (and iPadOS) calendar app, which shows only the list for the day you’re on. Between my law practice calendar and my legislative calendar, I can’t afford any misfires with scheduling. Time is my stock in trade!.Version: 3.1.4

Scammed their usersLiterally scammed their users by going to subscription-based and taking away features from users that paid for their app..Version: 3.0.7

Another bites the dustThe horrendously I’ll-planned move towards subscription completely drove me away from the app. Being a lifelong user, I couldn’t have been any more frustrated. It was actually a good thing, since I found a much more solid solution that’s unlikely to fold on crazy measures to stay afloat..Version: 3.0.7

Increasingly badHave been using for about two years now and seems to be getting worse - sometimes all events disappear from view beneath calendar and I have to restart, repeating events simply don’t repeat, seems to be some kind of bug that isn’t getting fixed. Do I really have to input the same event every week for three months?? Why anybody would pay £40 a year for a calendar is beyond me - I already paid once when I downloaded the app but to see the same events on my laptop is apparently a premium service? Nonsense. I do love how intuitively the calendar takes info from the text title and applies it to the event (times, locations etc) but this thing is seriously slipping. Leaving a review in the hope that these problems are fixed. A few tweaks and a little less cheekiness in the pricing would make this a great product..Version: 3.7.5

It's pretty meh compared to iCalYeah it's alright, but with Apple making constant improvements to iCal it's now made it harder to justify the spend. I enjoy supporting these kind of projects, though the Dev isn't really open to suggestions/ features to improve the platform; they're happy to plod along and release mediocre features every once in a while and charge a monthly fee. The closed response to improvement suggestions was the nail in the coffin and I will not be renewing my annual subscription in 2022. Sure it's got a couple nice features integrations, but without improvements over time what's the point. This App is reminiscent of the Evernote ship, that was a force and now is just pffftt to the free alternatives..Version: 3.5.1

Worse than Apple CalendarThere is absolutely no sense in getting the free version of this app and plugging it into your Apple Calendar, rather than simply using Apple Calendar itself. The interface is clunky and inferior to Apple. You can’t switch easily between month, week and day views, you can’t add travel time without a subscription and you can’t change the calendar colour without a subscription. Adding events is frustrating as it’s counterintuitive - you need to tap on the start edge line of the hour you want to start it at, for example, instead of tapping in the middle of the hour space. Not worth even trying for free..Version: 3.7.5

Long time user, deeply disappointedHave used the premium version for years and sing its praises to everyone, however i am DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED with the change. The new layout and design of daily events has created a cluttered view which is not conducive to fast and easy reading when you have many events in one day. It is cluttered and messy to view and use. For a previously brilliant calendar layout, there really should be an option to choose the old version for users who were happy with your product as is..Version: 3.0.1

Extremely Disappointed... app deleted nowI understand that businesses need to adapt to continue being viable and to offer high quality products. While I don’t fully agree the subscription based model I don’t condene it either. The updated app (Fantastical 3) is a bit buggy, asks to create and account, spams You to upgrade and severely limits the usability for those of us who come from a fully paid fantastical 2. “New” features are not worth the hefty monthly and yearly costs. I am (or was?) a supporter of the app, always recommended to everyone, and have bought all the versions - iPad, iPhone and Mac. However, I feel betrayed by the developers. This is hard for those of us who have supported the apps doing multi-platform purchase, considering that I have invested more >50usd (>65 AUD). We should have gotten a better deal to convince us to upgrade. I find hard to justify the payment of yet another subscription, more so for a calendar now that Apple (and other) are closing the gap. Good bye fantastical, you use to be a friend but you have betrayed my trust..Version: 3.0

It’s... ok.Fantastical 2 is a good app, but it’s not great. Want to add travel time like you can on the standard iOS calendar? You can on Mac, but you can’t on iOS. Want to use the group calendar lists on iOS like you can on Mac? Sorry, for no apparent reason, you can’t. This app has been out for years and is missing things that have no reason not to exist by now. The support is really good and I love how flexible the repeat options are. But really, it’s only slightly better than the standard iOS one, and in some ways worse..Version: 2.11.4

Still buggyPaid for Fantastical 2 and had to upgrade. Watch sync doesn’t work anymore. New version doesn’t work as good as old version and it’s not being fixed. Price is also steep now, wouldn’t buy at that price..Version: 3.0.10

Heading in the wrong direction - App deleted!Sorry state that all apps are turning towards essentially micro transactions models. Whilst I understand the direction that developers have taken to create a sustainable business model, I don’t think that this, or any calendars are worth £40 a year! Fantastical is just the stock calendar and reminder apps rolled in one. The reason I used it was for natural input, nice widget and watch complication. A one time purchase I can live with. But £5/month, or £40/year to keep up with the latest update is just greed. I shouldn’t have to open an additional account to use a watch complication. I am sure that within the next iOS update there will be deeper Siri integration with natural language input so that just leaves a nice widget for the rest of the money. And there are now two calendar apps that have better widgets for £5 or less on one time purchases. Where every app is trying to grab a bit of money from, I cannot justify this price, I can see other apps premium models with upwards of £10/year, looking at certain weather and note taking apps, they garner returning revenue and a higher likelihood of subscription due to fairer pricing. Good luck with your app, but I currently be a part of this..Version: 3.0

No longer “Fantastical” Deleted. No reason to push a subscription in an app that already cost about $8AUD on iOS and $80AUD on Mac. Fantastical 3 should have been a seperate app and not have interfered with version 2. As you can see from all the bad reviews on here and twitter this was a bad decision so hopefully you can revert or offer a “fair” lifetime price otherwise we won’t be coming back. Anyone reading can get a refund from Apple Support by saying the app you bought is now a subscription and I’d recommend calendar by readdle which is a one time purchase and they seem to be a bit more with it and care for their users and are not all about money..Version: 3.1

User-hostile. A shameful step backwardA subscription so I can see the whole year? What a joke. I’ve been using fantastical since Sunrise died. I paid for the v2 happily, and would’ve considered paying for a v3 upgrade. Unfortunately, v3 seems to just be a way to force people to pay a subscription. It interrupts you with giant pop ups constantly, like when you try to view more than a month. Just trying to learn the new version I was interrupted so many times I quit. Free/premium is a fine model, but you have to actually let users use the free version. Fortunately other calendar apps have made many improvements in the past few years and this app offers nothing that you can’t get for free elsewhere. I’ve enjoyed watching the rating of this app plummet in the past few days. Hope flexibits learn their lesson for their next try..Version: 3.0

Features I’d expectThis is a good app. I’m using it happily, but... I was searching for a cross-platform replacement to Apple Calendar, across phone, iPad and Mac - so I’d expect a little more feature parity for the collective price tag, plus the odd extra nicety. We’re talking a collective price tag of AUD $103 for all thee apps, after all. Missing: - iCloud sync for app settings - Calendar Sets (an amazing feature on the Mac version) - Portrait week-view on iPhone (check out Calendar 5 by Readdle) - More view options, in general, to make it on parity with Google Calendar, Apple Other items: - Dark Mode is half a dark view. If I want ‘Dark’, I want all the interface to be darkened. As it stands, it’s half dark and kind of annoying - Creation of Calendars and Reminder Lists would be great. I also don’t see an option for Google Task integration..Version: 2.10.4

Very Buggy recentlyThe app often opens in a previously saved task/event but the information is from a version older than the last edit of that task/event Natural language recognition gets in the way in quite a few instances (can’t think of any right now but I know it’s an annoying… I’ll let you know how to recreate the conditions of the bug when it happens again).Version: 3.5

Create an account for a calendar?Title says it all, give me a break. I’m a software engineer myself and this is just ridiculous..Version: 3.3.7

Time to move on?UPDATE 3.0.4: You still have a lot of unhappy people because of the core functionality removed. Please rerelease Fantastical 2 for all of the paid users and keep Fantastical 3 for all that want to new functionality with a different pricing model. UPDATE 3.0.3: You still haven’t returned the basic functionality you had right in v1 and v2. You’ll be deleted soon if this doesn’t happen. Read everyone’s reviews and realise what a mistake you’ve made. UPDATE 3.0.2: I don’t want to add my calendar accounts directly to Fantastical. The functionality worked before through the iOS integration so please update again or lose this customer. Having been a long time user of Fantastical and singing it’s praises wherever anyone needed a good calendar app, version 3 has completely changed my perspective. One auto update later and I can no longer invite people to meetings without changing the setup that has worked for years? And seeing that half of the functionality requires more money from me but I can’t hide that functionality is a sure fire way to get me to look elsewhere. I’ll keep the app for the next month to look for future updates to rectify this. Otherwise it’s getting deleted..Version: 3.0.4

Subscription price increased to 10$/monthGreat app but 10$/month for a calendar is too much. With the greed and the new price increases i’ll have to quit using it. Unfortunate since i discovered it a few months ago..Version: 3.7.6

Good, not greatFantastical is a nice calendar app, definitely better than the built in offerings. Not so much so I’d pay 40 quid a year for it though. I did try out the openings feature which I thought might have been worth the money but it seems to do half the job it ought to. It cuts your day up into slots of the size you specify but that seems to suppose you want to have multiple meetings of the same type every day. For example, I’m trying to set up a single 4 hour meet up in an 8 hour window. That only allows the option of two times. Whereas if I was scheduling that myself I could suggest the meet up start anytime between the first slot and 4 hours from the end. Perhaps the use case is only for people who make business meetings of exactly 1 hour slots but I already have teams for that and would like something to help organise my social life..Version: 3.6.4

Massive Backfire! As you can by now no doubt see, this app is being slammed for adding a subscription fee when untold users had already paid for the application over the last however many years. Delighted to see users standing up for themselves and slamming this developer for introducing a subscription for features that are just simply not necessary in a calendar app. 2020 is the year that we say “No!” to this money grabbing tactic. We purchased a working app the overwhelming majority of us loved, and the developer has chosen to take this away. To the developer: I suggest the developer looks at Readdle as a shining example of the way to proceed in a crowded app-filled world. They produce absolute first rate, top quality apps and keep their loyal fan base by not billing subscriptions but instead widening their breadth of applications. If you want to make money off of a new version, that’s fine, but don’t screw over your loyal fan base - you are receiving tons of 1 star reviews because you didn’t let users have a choice - keep their existing and paid for app or choose to pay 1 time for an upgrade..Version: 3.0.1

Gross update! Goodbye liars!I shouldn’t have updated the app. Give me refund if you require subscription. Also, it doesn’t sync with my Apple Watch. Gonna use Apple’s own calendar app. Worst experience! Goodbye liars!.Version: 3.0

Confused about the changeWhy does it feel like the version I’ve paid for is a lot lighter with the upgrade to the latest version? I’m continually being plagued with notifications to upgrade to a subscription to get the features I was previously used to. I’m quite disappointed. Guess I’ll be switching to the default calendar app on both my iPhone and Mac....Version: 3.0

Conflicted. Notifications are broken.I honestly don’t mind paying a subscription for an app like this (though i wish you could add in sub tasks....), everything seems to be pretty good, but unfortunately the app is broken for me. For whatever reason, push notifications essentially do NOT work, as well as any sort of alert before an event...they only push to my Mac, I have yet to have them consistently push to my iPhone or iPad (iPhone is the worst out of the three). When they do push, it’s usually only at the time of the event itself, if it does decide to do anything. I have tested it over and over again, creating events just to test this: lets say i type an event for “Lunch at 12:45”, with an alert at the time of event, and an alert for travel time or one 30 minutes before. I will not get an alert before/travel time alert, and i MIGHT get one at 12:45 if I’m lucky, but that’s very sporadic. On my Mac, no issue...all my settings on all devices are correct as far as I’ve checked. If this were to be fixed, I would be an instant subscriber, but alas Flexibits have neglected to remedy this (as far as not responding on Twitter), etc. i just want this fixed!.Version: 3.0.3

DisappointingI have been a loyal Fantastical user since it was introduced. Having purchased both version 1 and 2, I was surprised to find that I now had to pay for features I already paid for. Deleted the app and won’t return..Version: 3.0.6

Trying to find something betterI’ve enjoyed trialing this app. But taking into consideration the pros and cons, it’s not working well enough for me to stick with it especially because of the cost. There are two main issues for me: 1) The little dots / bullet points are too small. Compared to iCal I’ve overlooked (missed/forgotten) more events in my calendar because it didn’t stand out enough. Why a bullet point for an event? The line style in iCal - and used across days in the horizontal - makes sense, as it communicates the duration of the event. Not to mention it’s easier to see. 2) Sometimes I want the word ‘with’ or the day of the week in the title of the event. There needs to be a way to override the predictive feature. I’ve spent way too long typing and re-typing disappeared event titles - or worse, thought the event was in my calendar, not realising the event has flown off to the wrong day..Version: 3.4

Frustrated!I’m getting weird behaviors with the app that have made me go back to the Apple calendar. Feels expensive for something that is just making me crazy with troubleshooting. Price is definitely not an indicator of a good user experience on this one..Version: 3.0.6

Hard Lesson for FlexbitsGuys, you deserve compensation for the good products you produce, but you have to smart about how you do it. As a consumer, here’s my two cents: - don’t gouge existing users when you move to a subscription model. We’ll rebel; and - don’t force people to create accounts. People are sick of giving away their data. In my opinion the team that produce the Agenda app have a good model in place and it’s worth checking out. I’m giving you a four star review instead of five because of the account introduction. I’m also recognising that you’ve corrected the issue of restricting features previously available to your exisiting version 2 users. Hopefully the scathing reviews you’ve received are a warning to other app developers. —Edit— Downgrading to two stars because the subscription model you gone for is poorly priced, plus the new interface contains icons that do nothing except remind non subscribers to subscribe. This really is disappointing. Like others, I’ve also paid for the Mac version and had the app over 6 years. I’m hoping you enable a rollback to version 2. I’d be happy to stop there..Version: 3.0.2

No public holidaysPotentially a great and simple to use app. No ability to have public holidays displayed, not even Christmas or New Year. ’Help’ don’t even know how to add them, so may look for an alternative.Version: 2.9.2

GoodbyeBeen Fantastical user since it came out, for the most part thot it was fair value for what u got. No more, done!.Version: 3.0.2

Was great, but getting more buggyOn iPhone X it stalls and crashes (assume its hanging with connection issues, but still should be more gracefully handled). Also when creating events the text shoots off the top of the screen so you can’t see it and have to guess what you’re writing, pretty fundamental and a pain. Otherwise it’s a smart and intelligent app.Version: 2.10.5

Request a refund! My advice to all the Fantastical 2 owners from Australia is to ask Apple for a refund - they will happily oblige. This blatant bait and switch tactic the developers are playing with this app breaches Australian Consumer Law and you are entitled to a remedy. Additionally, I suggest lodging a case with the ACCC as these developers should be investigated and potentially fined for this behaviour - just as Valve was with Steam. To not communicate with customers ahead of a change like this and then remove the versions of the app we paid for is not acceptable. Their false claims that version 3 includes all the version 2 functionality is laughable as the Apple Watch doesn’t even work without being forced into signing up for a cloud account that you never agreed to with the original purchase. They literally think that it’s a good business practice to demand customers trade their privacy to get these features back. I couldn’t delete this app and move on quick enough!.Version: 3.0

How to alienate long-standing and loyal usersUpdate 31 Jan 2020: I don’t like the new look at all - I need a single line for each event, don’t want each event to take up so much space. But the killer is the subscription model. This is a calendar, for goodness sake! I echo the dissatisfaction of other reviewers of this app following the update. Have reduced the rating to 1* for such a bad business decision, in terms of the redesign but particularly the subscription model. I shall not be upgrading my MacOS version, and will not be subscribing. —- Love the app on iOS and MacOS - a minor gripe: please give the option to open locations in Google maps as well as Maps in iOS. Edit: Kudos to developer who were in touch by email within a few hours of this review, with information about the (very simple) way to do this which I had overlooked in the app’s settings. Thank you..Version: 3.0
