Sony | Music Center for Negative User Reviews

Omg!Omg! The bluetooth connection is sooo bad. I spent hours and hours figuring it out. Looked up online but just cant reconcile. And this app is not helping either. It connects and disconnects and connects and disconnects. Good speaker. Bad applications and hardware? I am beginning to regret this purchase..Version: 5.9.0

Bare MininumInterface: The interface looks like it hasn’t been updated since 2015… It would be nice if they made a universal iOS/iPad version too. HomeKit: The app adds HomeKit support for the HT7000 soundbar. It would be nice if it added support for turning the soundbar on and off, and changing sources from within HomeKit (mostly for automations). AirPlay: The app adds AirPlay support for the soundbar, but it is finicky. Sometimes it’ll start playing with no sound. To troubleshoot this, I’d have to turn off the soundbar, turn back on, then try again..Version: 6.4.0

SlowJust got the app it is so slow and laggy! Seems like it hasn’t been updated for 5-10 years, adds pretty minimal value to my Sony speaker and inconsistent with the quality of the hardware.Version: 6.7.1

Just annoying...I just bought the srs xb31 for $150, I love the speaker but you must have the app running and Bluetoothed in order to use any extra features.... ok that’s ok if it actually would work 1/4 if the time. It’s always losing its sync and goes to default. There’s a party mode where you can bang on the speaker to play drums and stuff and I love it! Gives you something to tap while listening to music but half 75% of the time the app doesn’t recognize the device even when I’m still playing music, so I have to close the app, turn bt off and on, reconnect because it doesn’t try to automatically, then go into the app crossing my fingers, and half the time it shows 3 extra speakers saying “need to be setup” but still doesn’t connect to mine.... so repeat. Finally have it working and your settings ready to go!? Well have fun when you lock your phone and go back into the app because it’s unsynced again... and just a helpful tip, don’t lock your phone while in the app, eventually you’ll have to restart your phone to even get it to work because it bugs out.... the quality of the speaker is what I expected with Sony but the app really ruins their reputation with me if I see “extra features in app”. Recommend the speaker if you just want good sound and bass, but don’t recommend it if you was wanting to use the extra features of the speaker and if that’s you deciding factor between $150 and another good speaker with as good quality for $60....Version: 5.11.2

So PoorThis is the worst App if it’s kind I have come across. I thought Sony would have provided a quality app but no. I have tried to group two speakers the SRS XB20 and SRS XB41 but although they are both connected by Bluetooth to my phone the app consistently tells me they need set up and aren’t. I can see why this app has such poor reviews, so different with Bose app. That is the quality I expect. Sadly it seems Sony has taken its customers for granted and will eventually lose out because of it unless it mends it ways..Version: 5.13.0

Doesn't workWas working before an update now can't recognize my device so I can re-register it even while I'm playing music. Settings on the device changed at the same time and now get reduced battery life. Thanks Sony.. Your the best.Version: 5.12.0

Need support for Sony SRS XB13I know this product is new but please add them to the app as soon as possible so I can use the app on its full potential. At the moment it does not detect the app via Bluetooth even when I constantly pair the speaker and re install the app. Please fix this issue as soon as possible..Version: 6.2.3

This app is brokenBy easy to use at all. Battery level read isn't accurate..Version: 5.9.0

It’s been 2 mins since updateThe speakers are so good but the way this app functions makes the experience not worth it. Every time you want to use the speakers it always goes back to default settings and have to set up the sub treb and others again and then the app... the app won’t even recognize my speakers 90 percent of the time, maybe even 95 percent . Literally playing my music through Bluetooth on the speakers and the app still will not recognize the speakers. Good thing the speakers come with a remote, although it doesn’t have all the buttons for settings... if it didn’t the speakers would just be a big paper weight -_- And there isn’t even have web version. THIS APP’S ONLY FUNCTION IS TO CONTROL THE SETTINGS OF THE SPEAKERS.Version: 5.17.0

Can’t check the privacy policy box to even use the app!IPhone X cannot get past the privacy policy. Read it, re read it, read it again. Still can’t check the little box to allow me into the app. I’m a private person so I get the need for a privacy policy. I have privacy policy for using the restroom thought it isn’t written so I don’t have a check box, but if I did have a written policy, my check box WOULD WORK! But the door would still be locked to I guess this analogy doesn’t really fit this situation. All I’m saying is that rather than sitting here writing a crappy review (get it?) I COULD be using my SONY app. Please fix this Sh!t..Version: 5.8.0

When it works .........good sound from speaker - but the previous reviewer about the buggy app is right. It is not stable - image keeps fading out and shows several pictures of the speaker that all need connecting (but you can’t) - also keeps going black and closing. Speaker good, app poor. Please update ASAP to correct the app performance! The days of turning it on and off again ... and again .. should be well over by now!!.Version: 5.11.0

No longer worksThis app no longer works on my iPhone 6 since the current update. A black screen appears and then disappears from the screen. Not happy..Version: 6.0.1

Cannot See Wired Receiver (Anymore)Sony, what is wrong with you? My Yamaha app is the perfect supplement to that receiver. An old version of your app use to be annoying because it would turn on my Sony wired network stereo every time the app was active, but at least it works! This version, it makes me connect to the receiver via bluetooth, which is not only worthless because my receiver is in the basement, but then it changes my source and stops the music every time! Then, I go to network setup and the app changes my receiver to WiFi and screws up my static IP and network settings. Just make this work if you ever want to sell me another receiver..Version: 6.3.0

Please enable access to “Display” button data for ST5000It would be great if this app would show the “Display” button info (LPCM, number of audio channels, kHz, etc.) for the ST5000. When viewing content in 4K with Enhanced format HDMI, the Display and Options buttons don’t work because the soundbar is unable to overlay the on screen display while in that mode. Getting access to that information in this app would be a great workaround. I currently use this app to adjust the a/v sync settings while in Enhanced format HDMI because that setting is not accessible from the soundbar itself unless I switch back to Standard format HDMI..Version: 5.8.0

I wish I had never bought itI use an iPhone 13 and/or iPad. The speaker repeatedly needs setting up, and I have zero wifi issues in my house. Every other wifi connected device I own works perfectly..Version: 7.0.0

Terrible app if i could give minus stars i wouldThis app has been the same for at least 5 years (as long as i have had my sony speakers) and nothing about it has changed. The UI is terrible. Connecting speakers is terrible. Reconnecting once you finally get everything set up- terrible. I am actually looking for new speakers to upgrade my current ones and Sony is out of the question because of this app..Version: 6.7.1

Fail - can’t even accept Ts&CsDownloaded. But can’t work cos won’t let me accept terms and conditions.Version: 5.11.2

Good for what it doesGreat app, gives you some really good eq controls for being a free app. I just feel like there could be a refresh. App seems pretty slow for how simple it is. The UI also feels kinda old. That’s the only reason for 3 stars..Version: 7.3.0

Please fix!I purchased a Sony car Head Unit for my car, and have an Iphone 6, and I downloaded songpal to use Bluetooth as instructed in the manual. Every time I get in the car I have to connect again, and after taking a call via bluetooth, the app stopped working and started asking me to allow the connection again, leaving me driving at speed on the highway in a strange city with no GPS. Please fix these issues, I am really starting to regret having purchased this Sony head unit which is a shame considering I've always been a big Sony fan.Version: 3.5.0

Sony is an utter disgraceThis app, which has never been great, is now completely useless. Couple this with the appalling customer service I endured after my 12 month old MHC-V7D speaker started growing rust on the connections, forms the basis of my decision never to spend another dollar on a Sony product. Unless they started making toilet paper..Version: 5.14.0

Something is buggy here july 2020Had the app for a long time. Purchased a new speaker and app doesn’t recognize it and asks for bluetooth to be turned on..... when I’m already using the speaker without issue... also asks for wifi.... why? I’m on LTE, what’s the problem? Come on Sony, quality product with mediocre software support..Version: 5.16.0

Good bye Sony. Why would you even offer an update to people that make their devices non compatible? Grow a brain..Version: 5.1.1

Sony. What. Trash. This thing is Hot 🔥 garbage 🗑. I mean I takes 3 ages to load as well as every time I use it, I get booted out of the app. Nothing will change it to 5 star, 2 stars if you are lucky. Oh yeah I have to put in my Apple ID to update it🙄. Can’t even delete it....Version: 5.16.0

A buggy, broken app that’s only useful when you’ve lost your remoteTried using all of the music features but it’s a frustrating user experience.Version: 6.5.0

BrokenSpeaker shows up twice. One is normal but won’t connect and the other says “needs setup” but the setup doesn’t work because its already set up and it doesn’t detect the speaker even if you are currently playing music to it on the same phone. Useless until it’s fixed.Version: 5.9.0

Using a Sony xg 500 for review *It’s sick when the lights change colours but I feel like maybe you guys could make the app a lot cleaner and simple…it feels sloppy and it’s really flawed and who let this drop as a final product? I spent 600 dollars on a speaker to get a garbage app? When skull candy’s headphone app is better in most ways for comparison..Version: 7.1.1

Works somehow ... but expected far better.Connectivity is the big problem ... it just doesn’t connect sometimes. Interface is very cumbersome. Switched to Sonos and don’t look back..Version: 5.13.2

Sony can do betterApp works well but needs a updates look to it.. seems outdated so I was c. Same with the l fiestas app , need fresh look.Version: 6.5.0

It’s ok…It works, but it could definitely be more user friendly. Accessing sound options, then speaker levels, then going back to basic volume control is a task..Version: 6.3.0

App is slowApp hangs when providing basic functions on IPhone 14. Very annoying..Version: 7.1.1

Run away!I’ve been able to get the speakers to painter and a part in chain mode as they said you can do. I bought an XB 20 and an XB 21 they will not party chain together one shuts off the other one turns on then the other one shuts off and the other one turns on it constantly disconnects from one and reconnect to the other but never plays the two together I have read the instructions several times I have looked online to try and find a way to make them work together as they are described because even on Sony‘s website it says that they are fully compatible together and even gives instructions of how to connect an XP 21 to another XP 21 and I was not even able to do that do not buy the Sony speakers and do not get this app, unless you only buy one speaker in which case one speaker works fine all by itself..Version: 5.12.0

SpeakersIt’s ok I love it, it’s just it would be nice if the tweeters could go different Color’s, instead of the edges..Version: 6.6.0

Was this App created by a work experience student?Sony, please. You make such wonderful, and good quality hardware items. I for on love my CMT-X5CDB unit. It’s sleek, good looking, stylish, and sounds great. It takes pride of place on my sideboard where it just sits looking cool, waiting to produce some lovely music, with good bass tones, at the touch of the unassuming and almost covert remote control. So, for a companion app I am given Music Centre? This app couldn’t be more of an opposite to everything I wrote above. It either doesn’t connect to my unit, or once connected, will happily disconnect itself at random. It is clunky, difficult to navigate, and isn’t intuitive at all. It would make a very good first pass at a beta release for a work experience undergraduate doing their placement year with you. It’s now 2021 and this really isn’t anything like the kind of quality that I would have expected from a company of your reputation and quality standards. Please please please will you replace it with something that has been developed to help the user? A true companion app. And PLEASE do it very soon..Version: 6.1.2

No bluetooth connectionMy ipad can not connect the bluetooth to Sony SHAKE 66D..any info please..Version: 2.1.1

App is the perfect 20th century solution to a 21st century problemThe speakers are great. Sony knows sound, no doubt. But the app is absurdly complex and full of friction points. -why can’t I name a speaker group (maybe like: yard party)? Or an individual speaker (like Dan’s XG-300)? We were left with 4 identical speakers that we could not tell apart in the app. -If the speakers don’t belong to the grouping app owner and software updates are needed, the whole process grinds down until the speaker owner updates that speaker? C’mon, we are just grouping already functioning speakers for cryin’ out loud. -Party Connect process is just as clumsy. Spent an hour trying to calibrate (must control individual speaker sound on the speaker itself?) and add other Sony speakers brought to my house by friends. It seriously felt like working with 2001 software, complete with ungraceful actions that provided little or no accurate feedback as we worked through the app. Like software written by folks who never even tried it for themselves before inflicting it on us. The four of us (an engineer, a product designer and two quality process managers) wasted far too much time on what should have been simple, quick and frictionless. With Bluetooth 5, there is no excuse for all the clunkiness,Sony. Do better!.Version: 7.1.1

DisappointedSony still make beautiful hardware, they just can’t seems to back it up with functional firmware and software. They ruled analogue but have failed to make a successful transition to digital. Very very disappointed..Version: 7.1.1

I like it, but it could be so much betterI have two vehicles and two separate models of Sony compatible devices using this app. I like it because it’s great for controlling the music etc I my camper especially. It can be a bit flakey connecting some times, but overall happy with it. It would be great to have the App actually store the device settings rather than pull from stereo. When stereos get disconnected from battery for whatever reason you at least have personalised settings saved... perhaps an option to backup and restore configuration?.Version: 6.0.0

Utter Crap.Just like the endless updates on the laptop that are supposedly so vital to improve the performance but in reality do the total opposite, this latest update has done the same for the speaker. It WAS paired with my laptop, and according to the Bluetooth info on said laptop still is, but when I play something it only comes through the inbuilt speakers. It’s also referring to my laptop as “Jericho”, a name I didn’t give it. If the speaker or laptop just won’t function without this rubbish of an app and so forces you to have to have it, make it do what it’s supposed to and not just add to the inordinate amount of needless stress that already exists. Or is that it’s main function? How can something be working OK and then an update totally screw it up? I despise the modern world with its so called advanced technology that is always at best just overpriced tacky trash, and it’s useless, unworkable garbage like this rancid garbage that makes it unbearable. Give me an old fashioned boom box any day of the week..Version: 6.0.1

How bad this app isI tried to download it in in the Apple store it says open like you have download the app and then I go to my home screen and it’s not there and then now all my music from the music app I’ve always used listening to music off-line, which is SoundCloud doesn’t work all of a sudden with the app not in my home screen. This app has screwed up my music..Version: 6.7.1

Complete waste of money on speakersBought 3 srs-xb20 to use multi room as told they were a 'good all rounder'. Completely unusable. Why is it so hard to connect them every single time you want to use them??? When I eventually manage to get them to work half the time one has a delay so you can't use them in same area. Tried another app and still doesn't work. going back to the shop tomorrow and will be exchanged for a better brand. Expected more from Sony. Won't be buying anything of yours again..Version: 5.5.0

Great Speaker AWFUL AppThis is my first ever app review...that’s how frustrating this app is. This app seems like it’s a “use once and trash” app. It only works the first time I open it. If I open it a second time it seems to lose connection with the app, even though the speaker itself is still connected. I subsequently have to delete and then download the app again. It’s especially frustrating because in order to adjust some of the features on the speaker (ex. Lights) I have to delete and download the app constantly. It essentially makes those features useless due to the impracticality of trying to use them. Strongly considering returning the speaker..Version: 5.11.0

The app is unsafeThe pop up the comes up In my iPhone every time I start my car is a unsafe unwelcome distraction. I have disable it in notifications and yet it still comes up every time. As you can tell it’s annoying I have tried to disable it to no avail. Why not just allow it to open in the background when connected it doesn’t need permission and a human response every time. The app does help with setting up my radio settings but other wise I wouldn’t use it..Version: 5.13.0

It’s alrightI have a mac iphone and apple watch i would like to connect it to the other devices but it only connects to my phone i keep on trying their bluetooth setup but it just won’t show up on either of the devices so that’s why it’s a 2 star rating it works fine but only for my phone not my other devices. hope this helps :).Version: 5.15.0

Good at first now terribleBought a Sony Bluetooth head unit to keep cable free was good at first then this app started screwing it all up coming up with errors all the time, the music cuts in and out when the phone is right next to it, I have given up and now using USB cable won’t be getting a Sony Bluetooth headunit again. Save your money don’t get Bluetooth it’s 2018 and the world still hasn’t got a grip on this basic tech.Version: 5.11.0

PoorFor such good speakers and Sony being a giant company you’d expect an amazing companion app to fluidly and seamlessly adjust and altar settings and preferences to the user’s request however this app is extremely poor and slow, it feels like an app made in 2002 thats never been tended to or refreshed and upgraded. I am actually disgusted that Sony would publish an app of this bad of quality to be honest. Constant connection issues, speaker constantly duplicates itself on the device list causing errors and a pathetic excuse of ‘troubleshooting’, I even get to the point when my speaker will not change volume via phone or speaker because the app has gone wrong in some sort of way as per usual, then, after a little while, you obviously turned your phone up to full volume and when the speaker/app finally decides to kick in and work again, it blasts out at 100% volume out of nowhere or whatever volume you left it on hence because the volume mixer had frozen or broke. Fix it Sony C’mon its 2019 for crying out loud..Version: 5.13.2

Negative improvementsHaving multiple SRS speakers the multi room option is paramount, it no longer works. The original Songpal app was superb and did everything easily and effectively. Since Music Center has arrived the functionality has steadily deteriorated to the point that it only works with individual speakers, not what I bought them for and really quite ridiculous given Sony’s claims..Version: 5.11.0

Really waste of moneyWorst app ever. Unless battery is above 75% charged you cannot conect two speakers. Pairing two speakers will not work everytime, most time end up playing one speaker instead of two. Cannot believe Sony supplies it. Do not buy Sony until app is sorted. Steve.Version: 5.7.0

Experiencing bad sound quality after pairing (started recently)I havent used the pairing (party) option for sometime. I have 2 speakers SRS xb31 and xb41. Recently when i started pairing the speakers together, the sound quality becomes very mediocre. I am sure it happened after the last few updates. Please fix it. The Bass is okay, but various other instruments such as percussions and vocals kind of cracks down. It is like a “Hissing” sound..Version: 5.18.0

TerribleYou need this if you have a cheaper Sony system in your car. But the ui looks like it was designed by 12 year old. The connection is spotty at best and is rather disappointing. If you are considering buying a Sony system that requires this app I would suggest looking elsewhere however if you are seeing it’s probably too late and you’ve wasted your money..Version: 6.7.1

TrashI bought the SRS XB-32 speaker. The speaker itself is great but this app is so bad that I actually thought of returning the speaker. You need the app to adjust to eq and the lights. The app often can’t connect to the speaker and I’ve had to restart multiple times before it can connect. The app is slow and clunky. It’s a shame too because when it does work, I enjoy being able to control the speaker via my phone when it is connected to my computer. After many tries I’ve finally adjusted the eq and lights to how I want it. Hopefully I won’t have to use this app ever again..Version: 5.13.0

Terrible AppConstantly loses connection. Starts talking in the middle of the night. Will not keep a stereo setup..Version: 7.1.1

Functionality taken away!So this app wasn’t great in the first place, but at least I could do the basics of controlling my amp from my phone. Now, after only 2 years support, Sony have decided to remove the STR-DN1080 completely from the app!! I wouldn’t have updated the app if I’d known this! The amp Is still advertised as being Wifi controlled!! No support, no communication from Sony...they have even deleted all the forum posts regarding this issue online!! With my current set up I now have an expensive lump of electronics I can’t do anything with. Absolutely horrible behaviour from Sony!!.Version: 5.11.2

The app is atrociously bad, almost ruined a partyMy new Sony SRS-XB21 Extra Bass wireless speakers are fantastic. Sony knows great sound better than anyone. This app that controls them however, is atrociously bad. Bought 3 of these speakers specifically for a party I hosted and this app alone almost ruined the whole night. Extremely clumsy and complicated to add other identical sony wireless speakers to it, called a “party chain” which takes at least ten minutes, and multiple dead ends through the app. Once they’re connected, all is good. But then try doing the same thing hours later, with the exact same speakers and the exact same app and you have to go through the whole process again, from scratch, which is insane. Also the app won’t let you “rename” the speakers (e.g. “living room,” “kitchen” “dining room”, etc), so if you buy 3 or 4 wireless speakers and they’re the same color, they’re all labeled “SRS-XB21” in your phone so you have no idea which is in what room. Also you can’t control volume of individual speakers through the app (like Sonos), you have to manually control the volume on individual speakers. Had to uninstall and reinstall the app it each time I had to set them up (3 total times) which was the only fix that worked. SRS-XB21 Extra Bass speakers themselves: 5 stars Sony Music Center App: Zero stars.Version: 5.11.0

Waste of TimeThis app does nothing. It connects nothing. It lists nothing. I can not do anything from the app. What a WASTE of TIME. I would have given much less than one star if it was possible. Perhaps do some research into some other apps that deal with blue tooth devices, then try again. On a different brands app, I can see each product, check battery level, turn on/off, adjust volume, add and subtract devices in the area. I think I’m done with Sony audio stuff - it just hasn’t stayed up-to-date with today..Version: 5.14.0

App connectivity issuesThe app should work better.Version: 6.4.0

Sony music centre. Zero starsOnly have this on one IPad, says up to 6 family member sharing . but won't let me download to 2nd iPad. First iPad died. Didn’t transfer through with other apps through cloud setup on new iPad. Totally disgusted, so now I can only use my brand new speaker playing cds.....very disappointed.....so much for technology. If I could leave stars blank I would give you a big fat zero!.Version: 5.11.2

What happened?I began using this app in 2015 when I purchased an STR-DH750 so I have seen my fair share of software updates. This app had its quirks but otherwise functioned enough to make it useful. Now the app takes longer to load the features, if they show up at all. I had to open several times to fully load. Also bring back dark theme! The organization of the functions could use a refresh. A volume button on every page would be useful. It feels like this app is now an just after thought in the realm of Sony..Version: 5.15.0

Cannot change nameNot user friendly. Cannot change name of the device. Cannot change the illumination to desired preference.Version: 5.10.0

The worst app in the App StoreI’ve never written a review before, but this app is so bad, I feel compelled to warn other would be buyers of Sony receivers to avoid this situation. I need this app for one primary function, which is to control my Sony receivers remotely, via my phone, primarily to stream music and it can’t even do that. This app can’t connect to either of my receivers via wifi and does so only sporadically via Bluetooth. I have dozens of connected devices in my home and this is literally the only one that doesn’t work. If wifi controlled music streaming is important to you, I would avoid this app and all Sony connected receivers at all costs..Version: 5.14.0

BLUETOOTH CONNECTED!!!!The only reason i got the app is to turn off the unbelievably loud bluetooth notification that sounds whenever a phone is connected or disconnected. Also if I’m playing music i don’t want my roommates phone call to suddenly override the music. This should never take phone calls. Ever. It’s for music..Version: 6.2.3

FrustrationI use this app regularly to revive the casting function of my Sony sound bar. If Sony can’t make something work consistently then they shouldn’t advertise it as a feature of their product, otherwise it just becomes frustrating garbage..Version: 6.2.1

2005 looking appWhy is such a huge company with applicants causing hundreds making users use an app that looks and feels like it’s from 2005, takes literally minutes to even load anything within the app and most of the time doesn’t actually register that your device is connected when your Bluetooth settings tell you that it is?.Version: 5.14.0

Great app for portable Sony speakerBut... it uses over 500mb just on documents and data. What documents and data?! It should only be controlling the speaker not storing anything that big on the app. How do I clear documents and data on the app? Also needs to stop asking to open the app every time it connects, if I want to open the app I will..Version: 5.9.0

Functional but trash in some waysI use this with my XB41 speaker which is great BUT clear audio+ enables by itself when I've customised the equaliser and it's done this ever since I've had the speaker (about a year now) and it isn't fixed???? maybe that's something to look into. otherwise it isn't TERRIBLE..Version: 5.15.0

Bluetooth ConnectionsThis software has major problems with maintaining Bluetooth connections..Version: 6.4.0

Bluetooth device name can’t be changedName of the device can’t be changed as described in documentation..Version: 5.13.1

AstonishedThis app is ridiculously broken, you'd think that with a company like Sony they'd be able to make a decent functioning app for their products that cost in the triple digits. I Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they had some college student design this app. How many updates has this app had? Yet how does it still not work? And why is the interface so poor? Sony, you are on the NYSE. You're one of tech's giants, yet somehow in 2019 you can't manage a simple app. I'd leave zero stars if I could. please fix the bugs and redo the entire interface. nobody that has a phone capable of installing apps needs to access their library or streaming platforms via the app--please remove this the entire aspect is pointless. if somebody is going to download your app, it's to customize the settings, not to play music on apps that they ALREADY have installed. This app doesn't have to do much. Just fix the issue where the settings you select won't stay permanent! They only work when the app is open or recently used. Like I said, there are issues present in this app that it's like they assigned this to an intern. Sorry to the intern that made this app, but I'd leave zero stars if I could. 5/5 stars for the product though..Version: 5.11.0

RuinedSony have ruined an existing app... I used to be able to control my amp with song pal... no idea what idiot decides to change this but has made my amp useless.Version: 5.9.0

Doesnt open on ios 16!!Please fix. Thanks.Version: 6.7.1

Sync issuesI have two xb-20 speakers and for the most part work as intended with the app - however - occasionally the speakers will lose their sync - usually if I turn them on and don’t play music within 2 to 3 minutes - then I have to remove them from Bluetooth , delete the app, reset the speakers to default and then add everything again - rarely, when trying to put them in a group again the app goes haywire and can’t figure out how to group the speakers so i have to remove them from Bluetooth etc....Version: 5.14.0

Waste of timeI have bought 4 sony bluetooth speakers that have party chain or ability to add another speaker to each other yet none of them are compatible with each other let alone work with this app , i don’t understand how hard it is to make these all compatible with each other after spending just under 1000$ and finding out the hard way im not a happy and will be taking all of them back for a refund so I suggest in the future you update your hardware if you dont want to lose customers and money.Version: 5.5.0

How to put XB21 into double/stereo modeoInstead of just repeating what everyone else wrote about the app (which is all true), let me tell you the steps to put XB21 (and similar?) speakers into double or stereo mode. #1) Do not follow their instructions. #2) Download this app but do not open. #3) Take the first speaker and turn it on. #4) Press and Hold Power Button. The Bluetooth icon will flash quickly. #5) Go to your General Settings, click Bluetooth (will show SRS-XB21 at the bottom), and wait until it has connected. The speaker will also give you a 2-tone beep. Note, other Sony speakers may have a Bluetooth button. #6) Click on the blue ‘i’ circle beside the connected speaker (on your Bluetooth settings on your phone) and disconnect it. #7) Follow steps #3-5 to add additional speaker. Disconnect from bluetooth additional speaker you just added and click connect on first speaker. #8) Go to the app. Agree to their terms of service, etc. #9) You should see a speaker at top. Click to Edit Speaker Group. It will take you to another screen and should show you the second speaker you added. #10) Click to Add speakers. This will link them into double mode. From there you can change them to Stereo if you want via the Edit Group button..Version: 5.14.0

Frustrating. Nonsensical. Garbage. It won’t pair. It keeps freezing. Been tinkering for 20 minutes and can’t make it work. Bad time for your automation to ask for a review. Bose is so easy. This feels like half baked software..Version: 6.7.0

What were you thinking. You removed a device less than 3 years old from support (the STR-DN1050)..Version: 5.2.0

The most annoying app I’ve ever used. This App is so bad that I’m considering returning both of my Sony GTK-XB60 speakers because of it. It somewhat works if you have only one speaker, but it will drive you absolutely mad when trying to group for stereo use. EVERY time you leave the premises and Bluetooth disconnects, the speakers don’t reconnect as a stereo group or even remember their previous settings. The speakers revert back to an annoying default of Rave mode lighting, which will send you into a 1970s disco epileptic seizure. Then when you go in, try to reconnect, the regroup fails 9 times out of 10 times after taking 10 minutes of hour glass wait times to get to the appropriate screen. If anyone should write a functional app for these speakers please let me know. I will gladly buy it!!.Version: 5.12.0

This app is ridiculously bad.Every time I use this app on my iPhone 8 as soon as I select a new song the stereo freezes, I have to cut the power and restart the stereo. If I use the remote it’s fine. Please Please Please fix whatever is wrong..Version: 5.10.0

Expectations and PerceptionsAny positive reviews are warranted against a sea of one star reviews. Imagine how the developer feels reading them? When it does, it works adequately, it’s alright to tweak settings etc. What underscores the negative reviews is the impression it gives, because it’s SONY. If a massive company like this is on the very periphery of commitment, it just instils a lack of trust that the speaker you have made an investment towards. It’s sad to see them failing at the details when so many attentive names are entering the speaker space like SONOS. This dated looking clunky app is a representation of SONY’s approach to the future and that’s sad to me..Version: 5.14.0

Connectivity IssuesIt’s nearly all been said, this app looks like it was written in the 1990’s and behaves similarly. Frequently loses connection to my speaker and reconnecting is hit & miss. The fact that Sony seem to be ignoring the issues confirms the arrogance & complacency of the company, an awful shame as the actual products are very good but let down by poor apps..Version: 6.1.1

App keep screen open unlimited timeThe fact that this apps keep my screen active unlimited time make me nervous, if I forgot to close the app in order to not have burn in screen, this is the reason I deleted it.Version: 7.3.0

Shockingly clunky setup and reliabilityTrying to use this to group two new Sony speakers to listen on both at the same time. Everytime I try to group it never quite works. It will disconnect one speaker and only play on the other (and vice versa). I finally got both speakers connected and then grouped only to come back the next day and they were disconnected again. Have now tried for 40mins to reconnect and regroup with no luck. Driving me insane!!! Such a time waster!!!!!! Fix it!!!!.Version: 7.1.1

Unfinished AppI love how songs that don’t even exist appear in my library, and give me an error informing me that they don’t exist if I tap them, and there is no way to remove them. It’s also pretty great that it’s completely random which of the songs that do exist actually appear in the library (and yes they are all drm free, supported formats that should appear). Sony’s DAPS are excellent, it’s a shame they don’t put even a single percent of the same effort into their apps..Version: 6.2.3

Illumination Setting never savesThe Illumination Status once set is forgotten each time the Speaker is power cycled and on each restart it turns Rave Party lights back on which I never want. The system should save the last used setting because there should be a presumption that is the users preferred setting. Every time I use the speaker I need to go to the settings to turn the party lights off and this makes it a chore and reduces significantly my enjoyment of the speaker and this app..Version: 6.7.1

PointlessI cannot understand why this app even exists other than to get you to agree to give Sony access to your music and sign away your privacy. Seems more like Spyware..Version: 7.1.1

Input resetsSony needs an update. The input resets every time you turn on a device forcing you to open the app to select the correct input again. Happens about 1 minute after you turn on the tv for example. Frustrating..Version: 6.3.0

Scrolling through tracksIt would be amazing if we was able to scroll through a mix when connected to Bluetooth stereo, I have mixes on my usbs and I want to scroll through half way on the mix but I have to hold the skip button on my Sony radio to fast forward and it takes forever please sort this would be amazing.Version: 5.10.0

Really rubbish appYou’d have to select a mode on the phone before driving off, which means it can’t play audio while you’re driving and take calls at the same time. You would’ve thought Sony would’ve considered people using a sat nav and driving and receiving calls on the go. Unfortunately they’re quite behind on this front it seems..Version: 5.5.0

Expect a lot more from Samsung and gravely let downTerrible application! as an avid user of apple due to its easy to navigate and clear UI I thought I would give some Samsung speakers a try, the whole process from installation to app use is completely un user friendly. Maybe it works but you need to actually explain how this works not just expect people to know. I have connected the device multiple times and the app won’t even allow me to go to the next screen to use the full features of my sounds bar and sub. This needs urgent attention and redesign..Version: 5.13.1

Complete dud! Never buying Sony again! The App won’t update, won’t install, won’t do anything! Really tired of Sony choosing particular avenues to go down to suit themselves and have very limited support and accessibility of certain features also very limited!.Version: 5.5.0

Cannot set equalizerCannot set or adjust equalizer or any option while playing.Version: 7.1.1

Wake Up SonySony’s SongPal app stopped supporting my AV receiver STR-DN1050 about 3 years ago. It is only one model behind current DN1080 and previous version of app supported it. Technically there is no reason for Sony to stop supporting the previous model except they want to force users to buy newer model. SongPal app always had horrible performance still it was possible to make setting changes through app. On top of it, they don’t even bother to respond to the reviews on App Store. I can attribute this behavior to poor leadership of the company. Wake up Sony, consumers have choices in market with much better customer service and better or compatible hardware..Version: 6.0.1

Just garbage for use with Sony ReceiversThis app may well work with wireless speakers and the like, but for control of Sony receivers, well…it just doesn’t work, at all. I have their current top-of-the-line STR-AZ7000ES, overpriced like all Sony stuff for comparable items from other manufacturers, but the extra cost certainly doesn’t help the consumer at all. Every other receiver manufacturer I’ve used (Yamaha primarily of late), the connection to their app just works. With Sony, it’s impossible to even get the app to find the receiver, whether through Bluetooth or network. The receiver itself is connected to the network, and yes, the same 5GHz network that my phone with the app is using, but the app just doesn’t see it. And the receiver connects with no problems to Bluetooth, but, alas, the app still sees nothing. Sony got really lazy by attempting to make an all-in-one app, but it’s utter useless garbage. I’ve found absolutely zero people online who have been able to connect any of the ES receiver line to the app. Part of the problem is it makes Sony’s already useless instructions and troubleshooting pages too generic and even more useless, instead of being written for the device you’re using (and in the case of the STR-AZ7000ES, paid a lot of money for)..Version: 7.3.0

Music center cannot access many music appsAs the name says it’s a music center, but the fact it cannot access many music apps. For example. You cannot link it to ‘Musi’, ‘EverMusic’, ‘Tiktok’ etc. The appropriated name is ‘Music Corner’..Version: 6.7.1

Awful!I’m currently stuck with this in my car as the stereo was already installed when I bought it. I thought it should be no issue because Sony has a decent reputation. So wrong! The only way I can connect my phone to the car is via a usb in the front of the head unit, and that only works for music. Calls still come straight from my phone speakers, there’s no apparent way to make it work through the steering controls either. I’ve spent literally hours trying to work out the trick to the Bluetooth connection so that it works more than once out of every 15 attempts. I think I found it… get a new stereo that doesn’t use this pathetic software. If zero stars was an option that’s what I’d rate it..Version: 6.3.0

Auto connectCan you please make it so it will allow access automatically. Every time I start my car it asks to allow access, really annoying..Version: 5.5.0

Warning to all potential sony customersThis App seems to be a sales tool. If you are buying a Sony amp thinking it will be smart phone compatible think again. With in a year of buying my STR-DN1050 Sony removed support saying “you can still control the device with the remote control or from the device”.. well thanks for the 1970 level connectivity..Version: 5.9.0

Garbage. Doesn’t work anymore.Useful app. However I’m using it with my new Sony STR-DN1080 AV receiver. I use botmy receiver. It would be better to include an additional toggle so that both zone’s volume can be controlled simultaneously. Currently I have to go into each zone separately and adjust volume individually. One toggle on the home screen controlling all would be WAY better..Version: 6.5.0

Misleading labelsI recently had my Sony Speaker stolen and while getting the appropriate information for the cop, I realized the serial number cannot be found anywhere on the even though I "registered" my speaker on the app. After searching the web and the app, I come to realize that "registered" really meant "add new device". I usually do my best to registered my products with their companies for moments like this, but poor wording has screwed me over. I would recommend changing the wording or actually register the device with our official Sony account..Version: 6.3.0

Now I need an iPhone 15 to update my App?Why would Sony decide to only support this App with an iPhone 15 or better going forward. Hopefully I can continue to run it by just not updating my phone app, but what a pain. The general forced upgrade path where you have to bit new hardware to replace older still working fine hardware is getting pretty stupid. I also don’t find the app terribly intuitive or user friendly, for things like operating zone 2, but that’s another story..Version: 7.3.0

PainIt is supposed to connect to multiple speakers from my iPhone. Every time it drops speakers and I have to connect manually. It is an absolute pain. Compared to other apps, this is still to develop into a real app - not yet though..Version: 5.8.0

SuggestionsCould you please make it so that this app does not instantly turn my receiver on? Sometimes I forget to close the app and if I bring the app to the front, then it turns on my stereo which I want to stay off. Also, you need to improve connectivity. I am not usually much of a phone/app guy, but for my whole house audio system which is a few remotely controlled stereos, the Yamaha has you far beat because it always sees the stereo with no delay. I’ve always loved Sony, but this is an important fix you need to make if you want my next stereo (s) to be Sony..Version: 5.17.0

Auto AccessAuto Bluetooth Connect would really add to the user experience.Version: 5.8.0

Terrible app.Absolutely useless. If you had a SRS-X7 you needed the app. At some point support for the SRS-X7 was removed. Now with a new model you can play songs but it tend to only play one song and then stop unless you select a playlist. You can't close the app or lock your phone since that makes it stop playing. No playing in the background. You can't use your phone for anything when you if you want to play music. Terrible app, pathetic to think this is acceptable. So your battery keeps draining since you need to have it open and on..Version: 4.5.0

UselessEither this app, or the speaker I paid $500 for are useless for managing music over a network. Best bet, plug your iPhone into the back of your high definition speaker, with a cord. I’ve bought my last Sony product.....Version: 5.9.0

SONY MUSIC CENTERI downloaded this app thinking it’s quick and easy to use Hell NO!!! When you connect the speaker to the app it says troubleshooting and cuts the app off every time even doe I tried everything to step by step to make it work it’s not working period. Come on SONY what’s going on with this app it’s not working period ? HELP Please I love my speakers but I need this app as a remote to work so I can change the lights music eq. Etc .... FIX THIS Problem Quick !.Version: 5.11.0

Works fine but...Works fine, probably a bit basic considering the giant Sony is but it does a job. I use it in the car connected to my Sony car stereo, the only real problem I experience is every time they connect I have to set 'Allow' on the phone, is very conducive to a hands free set up..Version: 5.17.0

Non supported stereosThis used to be a good app until it stopped supporting STR-DN1050. Why should I have to buy a new stereo to get a wifi remote when the current one works just fine. Don’t drop support for older models so quickly..Version: 5.4.0

App is like a virus which ruins your speakersOnce you install this app and pair with your speaker, it cripples the speaker. What used to be an excellent Bluetooth speaker that any device could connect to now ONLY WORKS if you have the app running on your phone. No sound comes out of the speaker until you open the app. Which means the speaker is now permananetly rendered mostly worthless. Friends coming over and want to show you some music? Sorry only works with the app now. This seems to be irreversible once you pair with the app. Speaker basically permanently ruined. Do now download this app!.Version: 7.1.1

AwfulThanks for removing support for my 2 year old receiver. Never buying Sony again..Version: 5.7.0

Awful appThis app feels like it was developed as a university group project - one that was started hours before the deadline. The app isn’t intuitive, it seems to forget a speaker configuration- after setting up a wireless stereo pair it immediately forgot it and forced a full reconfiguration of the right speaker. I have 2 x SRS-ZR5’s which are fantastic speakers it’s just a shame the Sony developers make the user experience of these speakers so awful..Version: 5.15.0

UselessAll offers nothing really. No option to adjust the sound or configure a profile, simply includes some basic presets that you can’t configure. As a person with impaired hearing, the Sony soundbar in combination with this app is absolutely worthless, a set of £20 Advent pc speakers sounds much better and I’m sad to say this. At the very least they have to add equalizer to the app.Version: 6.2.1

Needs a refreshHaving used this app for quite a long period of time and now using it for a Sony AVR I think it’s long overdue for an refresh and update. Be good to see more options available for settings etc..Version: 7.1.1

Blue tooth not connectingBluetooth doesn’t work from far distances. Please provide a solution. This happened after updating the app.Version: 7.0.0

Replacing Sony deck because this app is horribleI purchase a really nice Sony deck for my car and have regretted it every day because of this ap. I made that purchase almost two years ago and I am astounded by the lack of attention Sony has given to improving the app and making it functional. Every time I turn the car off and restart it I have manually connect my phone with the app. There is no way to do this automatically and it drives me nuts. I have purchased a different brand of deck for two other vehicles and they work perfectly and automatically connect. With the requirement to drive and use hands free calling I am going to replace my Sony deck and get a third deck from “other brand”. Not going to ever look at a Sony deck again. You had your chance and two years later I am not waiting any longer for you to realize that customer experiences matter. Good bye..Version: 5.16.0

Withdrew dn-850 supportWe can’t downgrade apps so if you withdraw support for devices like dn-850 (which was already clunky and unreliable) we can’t even have that. If this happens with some kit then what’s the point in buying new kit from Somy- the same may happen. At least release the last version that worked with DN-850 separately so we can have *something*.Version: 6.7.1

UselessThis app is useless. I bought a Sony SRS - XB41 wireless speaker. You connect your speaker to your iPhone or iPad. No problem there. When you open the app, it shows you’re connected and you can use all the features fine. Say, you flick off the app to use another app, when you come back to the song app, there will be another device which says “ Needs to be setup “. So now you have 2 devices showing. The one you’re connected and the other saying need to set up. The connected one will be greyed out. If you click the connected device, the app will attempt to connect again even though my music is still playing through the speaker. It then says please connect to Bluetooth. Whilst in this state, you’re unable to communicate with the speaker using phone. You can’t lower volume, skip track etc etc. When it says please connect the speaker to Bluetooth, I go settings, Bluetooth and then look at the available devices. As expected, it shows my speaker is connected to my phone. If I select the device which is already connected, nothing happens as it’s already connected. Now, when I go back to the Sony app, it’s working. Basically, everything I leave the app it’s working, when I go back the app is saying need to set up. I have to constantly keep going Bluetooth settings to reconnect even if it’s still connected & playing my music. Get a grip Sony. Very very poor..Version: 5.10.0

Unable to setup speakerI recently upgraded my speaker to the Sony SRS-XB32 portable speaker but live in a house where other family members have an SRS-XB30 and an SRS-XB22. One of the main reasons I purchase the Sony was the big sell point that Sony uses regarding wireless multi-speaker connectivity and your ability to ‘Enjoy the same song, multipled, with Wireless Party Chain. Connect up to 100 wireless speakers, with BLUETOOTH technology and the music lights sync-up so everyone dances to the same beat. Set a random pattern or set the lights to blink in a circle.’ (Quote from Sony’s website). Unfortunately, aside being happy overall with the speakers performance, the quality of this app is really where the Sony customer experience falls down. The app is clunky and fails to detect the speakers the vast majority of the time - and that’s just in trying to control one speaker. I’ve been unable to sync up the 3 I own never mind the theoretical 100 that Sony pitches with this product. Disappointing from a huge tech name like Sony. Really requires an update especially given the similar reviews and an a 1-2 star App Store rating. Hope it’s updated soon or I’d be looking at a Sonos or other brand which promotes wireless connectivity in future..Version: 5.13.2

Good riddance. Dropped support for receiverIn today’s market, customer experience *is* the brand, even more than features or price. Sony used to know that. I bought the STR-DN1050 because I could control it with my phone. After a quick “Update all” on iPhone apps and SongPal was useless. I have a degree in computer science and know it’s not rocket science to support multiple interfaces for backward compatibility, *especially* for an army of loyal customers. Sony, you think this is going to push us to purchase new receivers? LOL. Your influence in consumer electronics is shrinking and this is just another example of the acceleration downward. I’m exhausted being screwed by companies selling products that don’t work as marketed - or sneaky/aggressive product support decisions. Good riddance..Version: 5.12.0

Rubbish, works 1/5 times.Once upon a time I would just restart the app and my speaker would show up again instantly. Now I can’t get past the loading the speaker part. Just loads for half hour with nothing coming up. All I want to do is turn the bass back on from normal but it’s impossible..Version: 5.14.0

Still garbage. Wouldn’t have bought speakers if I knewChecking in almost a year after first purchase. App is still garbage. Basic functions continue to fail. No idea what all these monthly updates are for, literally nothing has gotten better. App still crashes every other time I try to connect to a device. Forget party chain. If you ever get it working, which is rare, leave the app and don’t return, or it will crash. If this app represents Sony, they have fallen a long, long way. I would never have bought these speakers if I knew this app was required. Their failure to address major problems in over a year shows they just don’t care. UPDATE: Another year gone, and this app continues to get worse. I have no idea what updates they are making, but they obviously don’t read these reviews or bother to test their app in the least. I can almost never pair speakers correctly, and when they do pair, the volume on each gets reset after each song. Most of the time the app just fails to work properly so it doesn’t matter. I have 3 speakers, all of which are great individually, but this app is so, so, so terrible. Any 2+ star reviews are either from company employees or people who haven’t actually used this app. Update: 4 years later and nothing has changed. Still the worst app ever published..Version: 7.1.1

Proof Of Sony’s Care FactorThis app is a classic example of proof that Sony just don’t care. It’s horrible as a replacement for remotely controlling or using any settings for my STRDN1080. You could probably download a free universal app that would do a better job. After making numerous Sony purchases and being a loyal and outward brand ambassador over the last few years I have finally had to admit to myself that there is no point being loyal at all. 2 months after purchasing my receiver Sony announced at the same retail store they would give away a free pair of Atmos speakers with purchase of the same amp. I asked Sony direct if I could please get a pair too but.....OH NO WAY! HOW DARE YOU EXPECT TO GET A FREE PAIR OF SPEAKERS LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE WHO HAVE DONE THE EXACT SAME THING! Great service for an ex loyal customer from a crappy consumer electronics company. Goodbye Sony! 👋.Version: 5.12.0

AwfulNever in the history or apps has one as woeful as this utter nonsense been allowed to exist. You HAVE to use it because it’s the only way to make use of the stereo pairing aspect of ZSRS speakers, but my god... if the app could remember from one minute to the next what was connected to the network that would be useful. Google home manages to find the speakers every time, however does not do stereo pairing... utter crap, please bin this and write a new one #sony.Version: 5.14.0

Just 1 new issueAfter the latest update I have to agree to the terms to open and re use the app BUT! I can’t agree It won’t accept my agreement so I can’t use it Except for that it’s a great app Easier to use than the actual stereo So could you guys please look into fixing this with maybe another update.Version: 5.8.0

Why bother at allSuch a useless app for the iOS version, good luck trying to play music from your library it’s a hit and miss kinda thing, seems like it’s a common problem so why do the developers not test these things prior to releasing!.Version: 5.7.0

Limited and dysfunctionalI want to be clear, below is from my experience and thus is an opinion, other people’s experiences may vary. Even when a device is active and functioning perfectly via a Bluetooth connection, the app does not connect to the device and requires the device to be turned off and on for the app to work. Even when the app is working it offers extremely limited options. Don’t waste your time with this app. I use Apple Music unlimited and with my Sony Bose SRS-XB20 my phone and iPad and laptop connect perfectly to the speaker using AUX and Bluetooth. The devices are perfectly functional and no app is required. The app offers no addition (which work) that can improve the experience..Version: 5.7.0

IPhone 6 PlusI have an iPhone 6 Plus and With the latest update I am unable to install as the end user licence agreement will not allow me to select the box I read the above contents and agree even though I have read right to the bottom of the document.Version: 5.9.0

The app and the speakers are definitely 2 different thingsA lot of these reviews are the same—speakers are great but the app is not. I agree. I have xb31 and xb32s—using party chain became a challenge because of the chain got broken, I had to disconnect all the speakers, forget them, then repair—even if the party chain worked with the same speakers. Once I got it fully working, I kept having to relevel the volumes on the speakers after a while—the leveling out didn’t work at all. Luckily I only had 4 to maintain during a party and not more or it could have caused the music to fail altogether. The speakers are phenomenal. The app is almost a dealbreaker because it makes them seem glitchy. These speakers have been marketed with this feature and it just doesn’t work well enough to be reliable. I hope that Sony fixes this soon—it’s enough to cause me to question the brand..Version: 5.13.0

Sony app won’t connect to Sony Device!Had to get a new iphone handset. Brand new. He app won’t recognise my SONY Home theatre system as a device in the speaker group, even though it’s connected via Bluetooth AND PLAYING MUSIC THROUGH THE APP ! Still works perfectly on an older handset!.Version: 5.8.0

The app is extremely brokenI bought a bass boosted speaker. The speaker itself is probably the best I’ve bought but the music center seems to be the controller for it. I have my speaker connected to my phone and I’m playing music but the app thinks I’m not connected and refuses to let me control it. I’m currently laying in my bed while my speaker is on its full fledge race lighting mode. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to do this and I might return the speaker. I’ll probably have another night without and another day with it’s battery being wasted on lights instead of used on music. I hope this app will be fixed soon.Version: 5.13.1

Apps not workingIm.! Impossible to change to stereo mode. It’s greyed out..!.Version: 7.0.0

Not at all what I expected from SonyI’m running this application on the iPhone XS MAX, so I know it’s not the phone but the application that keeps on having problems. You have to re-sync and do the Bluetooth process constantly just to be able to keep using the sounds setting and other features that the app has to offer. I bought and SB41 speaker and while the speaker is of great quality I can’t process why the app is so unreliable. For such a known company it should at least be able to serve the most basic functions. Come on Sony just invest in this at least a fraction of what you’re now investing in marketing!.Version: 5.12.0

Full of bugsIm using this for my Sony SRS-XB21. This app is great when it works, but half the time it doesn't work - it keeps saying I need to connect my device, even though its already connected and playing music. Then when I try to connect it says there was a problem and wont let me. Its really annoying. Ive seen other reviews highlighting the problem, so its not just me. How can a firm as established as Sony have such a buggy app?? It baffles me!.Version: 5.11.0

5.11 update has broken the app!!!It was working fine, until I updated to version 5.11 on my iPhone 6+ and now it is terrible! I tried deleting and reinstalling, rebooting my phone, all made no difference. Every letter when you type in the library search field takes ages to register, as if it is in slow motion, but even worse it is not picking up all of the songs in my iTunes library - useless! Navigating around the whole of the app is jerky, slow and laggy, everything was working fine until you released this version, clearly something has gone very wrong with this update. I’m very disappointed and worried that, having spent thousands of pounds on several of these srs speakers, I now find that I can’t use them until you fix this mess. I can’t even roll back to the previous version which was working. Come on Sony, someone please sort this out as a matter of urgency!!!.Version: 5.11.0

Does the jobThis app does everything that it should. My problems are with the layout and how clunky the operation is. For example, I run an STR-DN1080 and often run zone 2 speakers. I hate how hard it is to get to control the volume for that zone. I have to open my phone, open the app, select the zone then adjust the volume. The zone 2 options should be right up front with everything else. Also don’t like that there isn’t an EQ for zone 2, but this probably has more to do with the stereo. It’s also odd how the settings are at the bottom of the page when this is an item selected more than the source. In the end this app holds the monopoly on Sony connectivity, does everything it needs to do but is clunky to use. It’s creation is certainly only to serve the app market but didn’t have much thought out into it. This app is definitely not a selling point of their products..Version: 7.0.0

Really?!I have been considering multi-room system for a while. I invested in a HT-MT500 and 1 ZR5 to start with. Happy with the sound produced BUT the app... really?!.. how can you provide something so basic and limited? The app, doesn’t find the speakers all the time, you cannot manage easily separate room and separate music, The Music app from apple is not seeing the speakers, tune in same, sound cloud same. Everything looks old fashion and limited in term UX. I’m really considering put 200£ more and change for Sonos.. unless you are telling me that a major update is coming.. are you? When? With what changes?.Version: 5.6.0

Can't see fiestable on the appI'm trying to use fiestable for my speaker, I'm trying to find the fiestable app on the songpal but it just won't pop up and now fiestable is a useless tool app for my speaker. Pretty disappointed :( Please let me know how to do it or just get it fixed because I have done some research and there is nothing to say about the problem..Version: 5.11.0

Impossible to useThis app needs a lot of work. Trying to set up a speaker that is already paired, can't detect the speaker that's already connected, showing multiple speakers but I only have one..Version: 5.14.0

Disappointing from SonyI purchased the BDP-S6700 Blu Ray Player and then invested in the HT-NT5 soundbar with the SRS-ZR5 rear surround speakers for multi room and surround sound which does work, however if you want to change from surround sound to multi room the app keeps dropping speakers and the amount of time spent trying to get things going again is a nightmare. The app and hardware in today’s world should connect with no fuss. Sony you really need to get this app talking to the hardware no nonsense fashion. Disappointed considering the amount of money I have invested in your products..Version: 5.5.0

Useless! The only things I’ll ever buy from Sony are their PlayStation game consoles and their cameras. They don’t stand by their products no matter how good they are. This lame app is proof of that; it basically rendered two great sounding speakers useless. I also had to buy another sound bar that I didn’t have to keep reconnecting every time I wanted to use it in conjunction with these speakers. I was unable to use the speakers by themselves to listen to music, because of this app not connecting- or staying connected. There’s no reason why this app should be the only way to connect to their wireless speakers..Version: 6.2.1

QualityGuys the latest update has made things worse, I can’t even switch from any zone other than main or the app crashes so I can’t even use my zone 2 at the moment.. not happy!! and there is still no eq on anything but main zone either! fix it please.Version: 5.11.0

IncompatibleDoes not work with iOS 15.Version: 6.2.4

Awful. Worse than uselessDuplicates the speakers in the listing. Can’t set them up. Can’t connect them together. You have to do the manual connection to get them connected in the left right pair. Won’t do it in the app. Don’t bother..Version: 5.14.0

Getting betterI have an STR-DN106 A/V receiver that I bought a number of years ago and didn't even know there was an app I could use until a little over a year ago. At first the app was useless, would consistently drop connection when it would connect which was only about 1/4 of the time. I started using it recently again and it has been a lot better. The receiver controls sound in multiple rooms and sits in a cabinet so it’s nice to have such easy access to the controls. I would have been much more frustrated if the app was required for the options. It’s come a long way but there’s still room for improvement. This app has the potential to be a great value added to Sony products but only if they’re able to improve its quality..Version: 5.12.0

App insists that I should update speaker software, but failsI have the SRS-XB43. The app tells me that I should update the speaker software. So I said ok, go ahead and do it. It then tells me that I need to plug in the power and charge the speaker sufficiently. The problem is that the speaker is already plugged in and charged to 100% battery level. The app is straight up refusing to update the speaker. Very frustrating. Also, I wish Sony would pay a native English speaker to verify documentation and messages. I am used to seeing funny English from products purchased from a fly by night Chinese operation. But I expect a little more effort from Sony..Version: 6.7.1

Impossible to get past accepting terms and conditionsIf an app wants me to read Sony, Google, Gracenote and do not know how many more legal terms, some even in Japanese before being able to use it and not able to get the checkbox ticked I give up. Which is a shame as I have several Sony products. It is same lack of consumer centric service I have experienced before trying to get money back as part of their offer when buying expensive TV. In the end you do not want a Sony anymore.....Version: 5.10.0

Dj effects poorJust got the Sony GTX-XB7 and it’s amazing. However app is very poorly made. Dj effects only allow one effect to be used at a time (flanger, isolates, wah). Also those are the only 3 options. On Sony’s website the picture of the dj effects is different than on my iPhone. It seems on there website you can have multiple effects in one menu and can use them all. Other than these effects there is no reason for the app besides connecting your speaker to your phone, which u can do anyways in Bluetooth settings. App is in great need for an update to make customers happy with available options that are on there website but not on the app..Version: 5.11.0

RemoteCan't make the remote work.Version: 7.1.0

Too omplicated on zone 2My amp (STR-DN1080) The whole zone 2 thing is complicated to make work..Version: 6.6.0

Needs faster connectivityIt’s a great app when connected. But if I switch the app or open it after a few minutes it takes a long time to connect or it doesn’t show the volume bar. I have to restart the app. Surely Sony knows this but hasn’t fixed it. Please fix connectivity. Else its a great app if connected..Version: 5.8.0

Sorry Sony, doesn’t cut itI know Sony seems to be trying to improve but they really need a brand new UI layout and the interfacing between the application and product needs to be streamlined A LOT. The current way it interfaces with it is clunky and more ugly than doing without the application. We’ll see what Sony has in store..Version: 5.12.0

Sony stereo compatibilityDoesn’t show any of my music information like song title or artist name with Bluetooth Using with a MEX-N5300BT car stereo.Version: 7.1.1

No airplay supportSince 2017 firmware update Sony airplay speakers play ahead of time of laptop output, airport express and Sony mini systems... app should control this just like Airfoil™️.Version: 5.13.1

Trouble in the treble! Needs improvement! The speaker itself, is great. However, the functionality of the app needs improvement. While it’s great that I’m able to adjust the equalizer settings for the bass and mid range and will notice the difference thereafter, there is absolutely no difference or effect when adjusting the treble.. why??? Has anyone else experienced this? I’m not able to increase the treble and decreasing it makes no difference as well. Anyone else having this issue???.Version: 6.5.0

What’s the point in a £999 wifi speaker if it cuts out all the timeWhat’s the point in a £999 wifi speaker if it cuts out all the time? Sony need to re build this app so it’s really simple and quick to connect and it needs to not cut out from wifi all the time (it’s 1 metre from my fibre router!) nothing else in the house cuts out so why does my Sony srs speaker? Surely if you built the PlayStation you can afford to have a team who can build a good working app Ui as well as a good working system????.Version: 6.5.0

Sony FFS Fire whoever is supposed to make this app workMy god this app is atrociously broken. I’m trying to party chain two of my speakers and it’s a nightmare doing so. It’s a 5 minute process trying to find the other speaker (which is connect leas that 10 feet away) and it has trouble doing that. After that, some unknown error happens and the process restarts all over again. Then when the group is even made (which as a heads up, you apparently got to make the group again EVERY TIME you use the app), the speakers will either play static, disconnect, or even sync the music so badly one of the speakers is a second slower than the other. You would think that a big name like Sony would be competent enough to make a working music app, all their competitors have no problem doing so. Whoever made the app this bad should be thrown over a cliff for making something more broken than Sonic 06..Version: 5.16.0

Doesn’t work with Apple Music high resThe app doesn’t integrate with Apple Music to play high res, lossless or Dolby Atmos music very well. I have 1,000s of songs in my library but the app can’t recognise or import them..Version: 6.4.0

Nécessite de l’améliorationBeaucoup de bogues. Je ne comprends pas que Sony ait une application aussi instable..Version: 6.3.0

I still don’t see the valueI get what they’re trying to do with this app, but I don’t think it’s smooth enough..Version: 6.7.1

New Update Causing Issues?Never really been a fan of this app, and it’s always been kind of annoying that I need it to connect to a Bluetooth speaker. However, not sure if it’s a new update but in the past day or so we haven’t been able to connect to our speaker at all through the app. We can connect through Bluetooth, but then not through the app. And thus none of the audio plays through the speaker..Version: 6.9.0

Apps are just disappointingI bought the GTKXB60 and the settings on the app are just disappointing. The speakers great but this app and the fiestable app are just childish. Make these a little more advanced and not so crappy. Also, PLEASE make the lighting options better. Both these apps are just trash compared to the speaker. Also, just a heads up but if you change the light settings on either app you’re stuck with those options. I personally thought the factory light settings were great, but you can’t change back to those if you change any light settings in the apps. Even tried resetting the speaker multiple times and multiple ways..Version: 5.14.0
