With massive companies price gauging us for all we’re worth (£75/month for Adobe alone is killing me but I need it for work) the “it’s less than a cup of coffee a week” thing just doesn’t work. I understand that a one-and-done model doesn’t really work anymore. You can’t keep updating something if it’s not making money. But when you can get every piece of popular music you could possibly imagine or millions upon millions of hours of TV and movies for less than this, I really can’t bring myself to lend my support and that breaks my heart..Version: 8.4

✓ Streak ended, not sure whyI just started using this app and so far it’s been really helpful and it has given me the motivation I need to start this journey and approach it one day at a time. However, I opened the app this morning and my streak has ended and I don’t know why. I haven’t missed a daily check in but somehow the app is telling me I missed a day and therefore my streak ended. It’s discouraging. That number matters and there’s power and encouragement in seeing a number growing each day as I stack days upon days of winning. And now I’m back to Day 1 even though that’s not true. It’s actually very discouraging and frustrating which isn’t a good thing to feel for a person who is battling something like this. I’ve seen other people have this issue. It has to be fixed or the app loses a ton of credibility and usefulness. It makes me want to turn away from the app because the negative effect of seeing my streak taken away even though I haven’t faltered is kind of crushing and very counter productive. It makes me feel like the work I’m doing is being ripped away. The app is good and there’s good content and tools here. ✓ Missing an important featureLet me just say this app has been so so helpful for me that I’ve made it much farther in the reboot process than I ever have before. But even though I listed my self as a gay male, it still shows pictures of cute straight couples on the “choose your path” exercises and asks if I’ve experienced any more “real-life” attraction to women on the nightly checkup. I know the concepts would be exactly the same, which is why I’m continuing to pay for this app, but it would be really nice if the app just made it a little bit more personalized to people’s sexual orientation. Also, it offers no explanation for the whole team thing. ✓ Not really for gay menI really love the concept, but as a gay man who is trying to utilize this, when you see “emotional growth” videos that are exclusively catered toward straight men, it kind of takes me out of it. Watching a man and a woman live a peaceful life together doesn’t really help me when it comes to remembering the “genuine joys of human connection” as I don’t relate to that at all. I mean it’s not a bad thing to see in general, but it’s not something I relate to whatsoever and I don’t understand how I can grow from watching something I don’t relate to on a deep enough level to make it effective. ✓ Some help but with major flawsI subscribed to this app (paying a weekly subscription) becuase it seemed helpful. The videos and audio files that get unlocked each week are helpful and contain good information. BUT if you don't check in everyday it MISSES that/those day/s completely! They just disappear - even if you didn't watch porn or bustout, those days you didn't check in just vanish and there is no way saying you either did or did not bust out. Even if you forget to use the app for a week all it does is aske you about the ONE missed day? What the?? I then tried to email the company though the app and online and all I got was an 'undeliverable email address' message... I tried multiple times to contact them but no response... Great to see that when your paying a premium subscription you can't even contact the company who you are paying.. what a joke! TO top that off you can't even unsubscribe via the app - you have to open your itunes account and unsubscribe from there... ✓ Developers please listen..I’m a porn addict and it’s tough. Here’s my complaints and what I like about the app. The blocker doesn’t work. Don’t bother it’s useless, you deal with addicts here not idiots. It’s so easy to turn off the blocker and the blocker is only on safari! Which means you can use any other browser. It has to be irreversible for it to work, the addict’s willpower won’t do much when he has an urge. Take some inspiration from parental locks.. but giving an accountability partner the power instead. Which means it’s permanent, porn will be blocked and you can’t change that. You have to take strict measures.. The same visualisation videos its too repetitive, add an element of freshness with new clips. Also there is a bug that doesn’t allow you to see what others replies to your comment are in the help section. Nothing has changed much since the app first came out, other than change in the interface and the app runs more smoothly. Overall the app in itself is great there’s just a lot of things missing and I know this app has the potential to even more people. The app is helpful it just needs new features that are tailored towards the extreme end of the spectrum, for compulsive users who will do anything to get porn on the phone. I thought this was a bug that would be fixed after doing another checkup but nope, doesn’t even count it. Why track days and give you a percentage for rewiring if it doesn’t even work? This isn’t the first time this has happened. Why pay $15 a month for a shoddy service? Response to the devs: I have never used the other features in the app, and when I have for a week I noticed no additional percentage gained for a week of being free from PM, compared to another week with none of the side activities. The app doesn’t allow you to friend and continue being friends with someone. Then the app presumably switches people around into different teams based on their days of being clean. When I try myself to get into a group, it’s incredibly hard to know if they are active on chat or not. So if you are into the chat feature, forget about this app, it’s a headache. ✓ Not worth the monthly paymentsWhile Brain Buddy does serve a very good purpose, and is working in that respect, I just have a couple issues with the app. First, there are quite a few bugs which might not be noticeable at first but today a streak clearly did not have the right number, which was confusing so I had to rely on my own math. Second, you can't delete help posts (that go to the community). When attempting to email to delete a post, they just asked me why... it's a pretty personal app. I shouldn't have to explain myself via email and this should be a very simple feature to add to this app. Maybe if there was more documentation on the specific event that was occuring (which seemed to be very common in the community) then I wouldn't have to reach out so much in the app. Either way, it's not worth the monthly payment as soon as you just memorize the maybe 3-5 daily activities you need to do (and was not worth it for me as soon as I had to ask for a feature that seemed pretty common, which unfortunately made me pretty uncomfortable)..Version: 9.2

Just recently I went to report for my checkup and a message was on the screen saying 'sign up to keep track of your progress'. ✓ Not for Everyone/Weird FeaturesThis app has helped me, but I have some serious problems with it. For example, on the homepage they give you the option of reading a Success Story. I know they do this for motivation but some Success Stories have explicit descriptions of sexual encounters, scenarios and/or vulgar and inappropriate language. I thought the purpose of this app was to help people NOT read or think about any of those things, so why on earth is the app recommending me that stuff to read on the ‘homepage’ of all places? Same with the Advice/Help section of the app. Some posts and comments are helpful and motivating but others are sexually explicit, rude or mock/belittle people of religious faith or spirituality. I understand why it’s giving people a place where they can ask for help, and I understand the developers of the app can’t control every post, but they should at least have a warning stating that they don’t control what’s said there and that it may contain explicit content. ✓ Design 5/5, the rest 1/5After 10 minutes there’s already many red flags. First, the quiz is not accurate and wants to clock you as an addict so you buy their product. Did the quiz twice, changed some of my answers, and obtained the exact same percentage point. They then compare you to an arbitrary average to make you feel bad which isn’t backed by anything. First impression was clear. “Take our survey, and you bet you’re an addict so you’ll need our app.” Second, despite claiming to building the app around research, the 2nd exercise I did was complete rubbish. They want you to practice to stop thinking about something, and so they show you an elephant and says do not think about an elephant. That’s the EXACT most common example given when having to describe the definition of reverse psychology. Of course you will think about an elephant. You shouldn’t fight thoughts, you should notice them and handle them instead. Anyone with beginner level of meditation knows this, but apparently with the app offering meditation classes, they surprisingly ignore that. Third, they over dramatize the whole situation to make you feel extremely bad about yourself. Don’t let porn be a scapegoat. The app is trying to convince you that everything is due to porn, but it’s not. It claims that there’s research backing them up but there isn’t. There’s a reason why porn addiction is not yet recognized as a pathological addiction - the research hasn’t yet proved the claims that this app, NoFap and others are putting on pornography. ✓ Great concept, but app is marred by a few bugs in key placesI love the idea. The meditation content is great, and also the encouraging messages. However some really glaring UI bugs made me unsubscribe. First, the team chat had this strange bug where sending any message exits out of the thread. I have to click back into the room to see the message I sent. Second, I set the checkup time to “next morning”, but it seemed terribly bugged: not actually prompting me for a checkup the next morning. These are super basic UI bugs that are aggrevating, and greatly affect my use of this app. Please fix them and pay more attention, devs! I did enjoy the assessment at the start of the experience. I got the 1 week trial right after that. Figuring if it helps then it’s worth the money. The app went into an evaluation mode and it was testing my natural willpower and started a timer on it. The timer has been going and I can’t stop it. There is no indicator of when it will stop. I would say as a Black man there isn’t much representation of people like me in the videos. What this shows me is that it’s not a Black person problem (which I know is false).
