Warning, fellow Aussies avoid this app!Dog-eared books, blank pages, misleading price. It’s more expensive then you realise. The price you think you pay is different to what gets taken from your bank! Be warned that you may think you have upload images, but they never ‘sync’, leaving blank pages in your book. Don’t commit to this app, as you may find yourself disappointed after hours/weeks of work uploading, editing, storing images. Books arrive dog-eared, so don’t make good gifts and image quality is not that great, plus it’s very small. The customer service is fine, until you place an order and pay, then no one will help you..Version: 3.5.5

So frustrating!!!!!!I was given a coupon for a "free book" and worked on making it for hours. Then when it was time to order, I found out the coupon wasn't good for just one book, I had to start a subscription. I just want one to see if I like it first! Then when trying to make my free subscription book, I'm trying to add just one more picture and instead of adding that picture, it is adding multiples of other pictures I already have in the book. I have done everything I can think of. I restarted the app, I resigned in, I updated the app... I cannot get it to add that ONE picture from ANY of my means of getting pictures (instagram, Facebook, my photos...). I've been working on trying to get these photos added that I want for almost an hour now. I thought this was supposed to be EASY!!! It's NOT!!! I have 2 young kids. If I wanted to spend this much time on a photo book, I'd order one through Shutterfly, at least I already KNOW they have good quality. I'm so upset about this. Edit: I finally got my book. Extra chargeHave received my book today( small square size). Book is ok. Can’t say it’s wow. It’s a book for its money. Unpleasant surprise was that I had to pay extra £12,50 at the post office to collect it. Import duty... that isn’t mentioned anywhere while ordering. Bait and SwitchPretty ridiculous they advertised a $5/month product that ends up being $15 in the end and now they’re raising prices even more halfway through the year so if I don’t go with the price increase I don’t have a full year like planned. Tempting but incredibly frustratingIt may be me... but on my iPhone I can’t seem to find a method to figure out how to access my entire camera roll and allow me to select individual photos without using the swiping interface. I have a lot of photos and after 10 minutes of swiping through my collection I have started to lose interest. I think the interface needs working on, I also think that something so personal like a photo book needs to have more opportunities for personalisation. It shouldn’t be this difficult to select the photo you want as the front cover. It needs to be more intuitive. A lot of prospects, I love the outcome of the little books from the marketing photos but can’t seem to find the patience to deal with the interface. Maybe I’ll try again in the future. Wasted hours of my lifeThis app was incredibly buggy, but I was giving it a chance because I really liked the concept and so badly wanted it to work. I spent hours trying to create my perfect photo book for the past 6 months. It crashed and bugged out so many times which is why it took so long. Today it was being buggy so I closed the app, reopens it, and all the work I had done was gone. I was so excited for it and had tried so hard to make it good, it makes me want to cry..Version: 3.13.3

Going DownhillI loved this app. I’ve had it for several years and had the subscription that automatically creates books from my favourites. I have over 20 books from here. However recently the quality of the photos are so grainy. I can actually see the dots on each photo. It’s such a shame because it was never like this and I wanted to continue my series. I have contacted customer services on numerous occasions and waited days for a reply, sometimes not even getting one. I’m disappointed..Version: 4.8.1

It’s okThe idea is great. Monthly subscription that won’t break the bank, and automatic shipments. The issue I have is with the app. It is slow and buggy and frequently hard to use. The pictures don’t load, or changes don’t load, or the app itself doesn’t load. It’s hard switching addresses to a different address (I do that if I want to send the book straight to a family member instead of giving it to them in person), it would be nice if there were saved addresses that you could select. (There may be a spot in the app to do that, but I don’t know where it is if there is one.) Also, I have no idea where I would be able to cancel a subscription (if I eventually wanted to do that). It would be nice if there were bigger books offered as well, or even a different layout than just a single picture per page. I consistently need 2-3 of the 60 page books for each month with the amount of pictures I have of my son..Version: 3.18.1

Its okay.Printing quality is great. But rearranging images on the app is the worst thing I have ever seen in the world. It moves and refreshes back to the old arrangement and moves some random image to random location. And makes it more complicated and disorganized..Version: 4.8.1

Super buggy and hard to useThis app is an exercise in frustration. It’s poorly designed, functionally inconsistent, and often fails in its operations. You have to really work hard to get results. Fortunately, the output barely balance the painful labour of its production. The company’s support staff are exceptional. Unfortunately, the company’s developers do them no favours and constantly fail to deliver an app that functions as intended or even can be depended on..Version: 4.10.0

Customs charges!!Been having these books for a while. Postage was paid within the price as always but this time I’ve had to pay £12 customs charges because Royal Mail wouldn’t deliver. It’s put me off. I won’t be using them again. I know it’s not the fault of chatbooks but if Royal Mail are going to start charging when I’ve already paid for the item and postage then I won’t bother anymore. Such a shame because they are beautiful books.Version: 3.2.6

App is not friendly to tell you it’s US onlyI mocked around and wasted couple hours to find out via support that it’s US only. They advertise in Canada and allow Canadian shipping address but don’t tell you until you call them that’s its US only. Perhaps Canadian Marketing and advertising agency can fix it for them. Too hard to get customer supportI have been getting chat books for 4 years and loved them but for some reason the last 8 months I have been getting a double up of books and been charged for 2 books each time when I only ever ordered one. I have contacted chat books and sent emails multiple times and haven’t ever received a response finally decided to take it upon my own hands and pause my subscription and can’t even get the app to do that so I’ve now had to delete the app, miss out on my chat books and I’m out around $120 from the double up of books.Version: 4.0.1

App Glitching and LaggingThe app is a pain to work with. Editing, rearranging, setting up the layout of the photos reminds me of the internet connection in the early 2000’s. Especially if you have quite a number of photographs to deal with, sometimes you just have to close the app and reopen it again. For the price it asks you’d expect a cruisy virtual experience but nope. They need to invest more in fixing the glitches and laggings..Version: 5.0.1

Deceptive for international usersWhat started out to be a $10 monthly photo book, turned into $20 per month, after selecting a few extra options, which I was fine with. Then at check out, shipping wasn’t free as it originally stated, I had to pay $4 (and estimated shipping was 3 weeks!), again I was fine with that. Looking at the total, I realised that there was another $2.20 tax included and in small print on the right hand side - “all prices are in USD”!! (No where does it state that on the app.) Living in Australia, that makes the prices also double. So annoyed that I spent over an hour putting together the book that was meant to be $10-$20 and only to discover it would be costing almost double..Version: 3.9.16

Easy to use, but charged 3xI don't usually write reviews unless something went really well or really wrong. This unfortunately was not really well. I was so excited to use Chatbooks! It was cheap, easy to use, and had great reviews. I purchased my first book, but cancelled it the next day to get it in a hard cover instead. Customer service was really nice, but then a few days later, I see another charge from Chatbooks show up... I haven’t opened the app since the cancellation of my other book, so I have NO idea how this happened. I did get that money back though. I ordered my book 07/22 & it’s August 4th (the estimated date) and the tracking number does not provide much information and hasnt been tracked since 5 days ago. This might not be their fault, but this is a gift & I hope to give it on time! I might give Chatbooks another shot, but I’m a little disappointed I wanted to use it over Shutterfly & everything else! Good app but beware customs charges when ordering in UKI did find this app easy to use and made up a great little book of my baby’s first year. However after spending over £100 on the book I didn’t expect to get an additional £25 charge from customs and this was purely because they didn’t categorise the package correctly! Thanks Chatbooks.. Simple to use but glitchesNot always the most user friendly, app often glitches and have to restart. Thankfully it saves progress as you go. Support staff is friendly and helps. Over simplified design options but if that’s the look you want it will be good..Version: 4.10.6

Loved It Until I Needed HelpI first want to say that I find both the browser and the app a little clunky. It's not always easy to navigate to where I want to be. Secondly, I have a subscription for two books a month from Instagram and when I get the email it never links me to the correct place to review. Lastly, I recently had an issue where I needed to recreate and re-print books in my subscription. It took me over a week to get a resoonse from customer service, and even once I got the customer service person the responses were very long in between and now all I want is a confirmation that my books are back on schedule and I keep getting an email from the Help Desk asking if my issue is resolved as though they are not seeing my responses - so disappointing. In the past if I've had an issue it's been taken care of without a problem and now I feel like I've been abandoned. If you have customer service set up for texting, someone needs to respond - I finally had to find an old email to reach anybody. Good customer service is so important, and I feel like I'm dealing with a whole different company from the last time I had to contact you..Version: 4.11.7

Concept is cool but the app has too many bugsI’ve been using Chatbooks for 5 years now. The concept is very cool and simple. The books themselves are cute and are becoming better quality. At first I had wished the photos were better quality, but with the most recent book I received I was actually impressed with the improvement they’ve had. The text is small. They’ve made improvements but it still seems there’s plenty of room on the page to make the text bigger and/or allow more text. The But what I really want to review is the app. This app is the most frustrating app to use. I’ve never used an app that has as many bugs/glitches as this one does. And this has been constant over the last 5 years. You’d think they’d be able to get it together. Just weird things will happen like I can’t manually sort my pictures how I want, or new pictures are being added to a previous, locked, book. Or the captions say they’re within the allotted space, but then when I save it, it goes to a caption page. Their customer support is easy to contact and always try to help, but they often don’t know why it does it either. They’ll say things like the app is “being glitchy right now” except it’s been 10 months with many app updates and the app is STILL doing the same thing. Customer service/User experienceI ordered a hardcover large book to cover the first 6 months of my daughter’s life. I wanted one to keep and one for my parents and one for my husband’s parents. I ordered one to start with as I hadn’t ordered before and wanted to make sure I liked the quality. I used the app and found it pretty user friendly. I received the book and really liked how it came out. I decided to go ahead and order 2 more but wanted to change the cite design on the cover. In the app I had trouble. My book I had ordered wasn’t saved under my books and the only way I could see it was as a prior order. However, I couldn’t edit it at all. I texted support which it said usually responded with in minutes (it was during the day on a weekday.) After a few hours with no response I played with the app more and figured out how to copy my book and then edit it. I did so and changed the cover design and ordered 2 more books. The next day customer service got back to me which is not an unreasonable response time except that it was supposed to be much sooner. Fast forward to receiving my books today which were supposed to be gifts. The title on the outside literally says “Copy of *the book’s title” Upon going into the app I accept that this is my fault for not noticing but I do think this is a design flaw. The working name of a book is one thing but then changing the text of what’s to be printed to that same name is stupid. I’ve now wasted well over $100..Version: 3.8.1

Recent updates have been very buggyI love the product and affordability of the books. I love that the app reminds me to make them and shipping is typically very quick. However, making my last 3 month books has been quite a trial. I often have the app select photos for me, but do make some edits. This process has been a nightmare. I will go though and select my photos and go to put the final touches on the book and it hasn’t saved. After several attempts, I finally deleted the pictures I didn’t want, made sure it saved, and then closed the app and reopened to add the photos I did want. I have also had problems with 2-photo displays where the second photo does not load. I have tried both on WiFi and on data. I have deleted the app and reinstalled. I have ensured I have the most current version. These glitches have taken what used to be a couple minute process once a month and made it take several hours at times to edit my month books. Clunky AppApp is rather clunky and goes in total disarray when you change you phone - does not sync anymore with your favourite photos. Albums take quite a long time to arrive... from the US! I want to love this app but too many bugsI love the books and it’s so easy to navigate the app. But there’s always some sort of issue so I’m unable to checkout. It’s always “sorry something went wrong” I check to make sure the app is updated and then bam another error. This app is full of bugs that need to be fixed. Was so excited for my first book but then it arrived1st I would like to say the app is great easy to use and takes just moments to make a book. I loved the idea of this app. So it took almost 3 weeks for the book to arrive. That’s ok I picked free snail mail. So today I open my mail box and there it is. So excited then I touch it.... oh gosh it is wet and muddy . But I think surely they mail it in something that is water proof. NOPE. Worst service- 6 weeks later and no bookI was very excited to order my first chat book. My wedding got cancel due to the current climate and I had been separated from my partner. I wanted to send him a chat book to cheer him up. Sadly, this did not happen. I ordered my book on April 17th and SIX weeks later have not received my book. Nope, nope, nope don’t do it!!I’ve been meaning to print pictures for over a year and heard about how easy Chatbooks was to use. Downloaded it and with some monkeying are figured it out. Did a monthly subscription, after editing something like 8 volumes ordered my first volume. Then decided on bonus prints. The first book came and I was a bit disappointed with the pages not being glossy photo paper, but okay. I had taken some new photos and popped open the app to add captions. The printed volume was completely messed up even though it was locked. The rest of the volumes were now screwed up too. The support people were able to somewhat fix the locked volume to push the pictures I had not printed back so I could have them in volume 2 but, I had to re-edit EVERYTHING. Ordered volume 2 after hours of re-editing. The prints from volume 1 arrived the other day and again, not on photo paper. Even worse....not the ones I picked! So, now a couple days later, I open the app to once again find everything MESSED UP!! I refuse to continually re-edit my books it takes the joy out of looking at the photos of my precious babies photos. Sigh, I guess I’ll move on to another service/app. I doubt Chatbooks would refund my money either. 😡.Version: 3.3.6

Okay, not greatI use Chatbooks to make an annual book for each of my boys using Instagram posts, and while I am able to do it, they certainly don’t make it easy. Having to scroll through alllll the photos posted on IG is a huge pain. There is no option to filter by date. The only option under filter is to filter by hashtags. However, the app does not allow you to enter any hastags, which is annoying. It also constantly kicks me out, so after scrolling through all of the photos and selecting the ones I want, I’ll get kicked out randomly and have to start all over again. I also think it’s annoying that if I post multiple pictures under one post, but I only want a few photos from that post, it doesn’t pull the caption unless I pick the very first photo in the post. It should pull the caption once for that post regardless of what picture I choose. I keep using Chatbooks because I haven’t found a better alternative yet that would make this easier, but when I do, adios!.Version: 4.6.2

No way to change filterWorking with customer service on an issues with selecting a filter, undoing the filter and selecting a different filter. It either lets you have no filter or the original filter selected. Customer service first tried to say “unfortunately there is no ‘undo’ button with the photos edits. So within the app once a selection is made it sticks unless the photo is re-added.” I am editing 100 photos in the book that were manually selected from 400 wedding photos, so I will not be deleting photos to then find and re-add. Then I also pointed out to them that “there is an option that says ‘undo last edits’. It goes back to normal at that point. Then when you go back in to select a different filter the old one sticks. So there is a button, it’s just not working.” They responded with “yes I’m seeing that option as well, can I get back to you via email?” So, it is very time consuming adjusting filters. If only one can ever be selected then there should be the ability to select all photos and edit with the same filter. Instead you have to go in each photo one by one to change the filter. It makes no sense that you can’t try out a filter to see if it goes well. Waiting for their response to see how they will be fixing this issue. IPad Version is trashI subscribed to the monthly Chatbooks to find out I can’t use their website like I have with other Chatbooks I have made and purchased. I have to use their app. The iPad app does not have the same function as the phone app. I do not want to have to tap out caption and rearrange photos on my phone but have no other choice. With my iPad I can use a Bluetooth keyboard and have a bigger screen to work from. I wear glasses and don’t like working from a small screen and tapping on a tiny keyboard. But since I have over a year’s worth of books I paid for (my fault for letting them pile up) I am stuck with the phone app since I am sure they won’t refund me. I am cancelling my subscription. There are lots of other services to choice from. AND I started working on a book and didn’t finish. They printed it and sent it to me. It was not the book I wanted for that month. Date issuesI really want to use this app as it seems so easy, and I like the idea of a series. However, my issue is the dates are all linked to the US and not the dates of my actual photos here in Australia (or at least the dates I uploaded them to Instagram). It’s ok for the majority, but when it is a special occasion like birthdays or Christmas, it’s frustrating that the date is one day out - but even more so that the edit date function on individual photos just doesn’t seem to work!.Version: 3.5.5

Error with photos uploading - no notificationI recently ordered a Chatbook on 14 August 2018. After waiting 11 working days I was concerned that the booked hadn’t been shipped yet. I was surprised to see when I checked the app that the status remained as “ordered”. I emailed support to see what was going on. They got back to me within 24 hours and let me know 3 of my photos hadn’t uploaded. It would have been good to have know this at the time, rather than 11 working days later. I now have to re-order my book and wait another 12-14 working days for it to arrive! Really disappointed. The only reason I leave 3 stars is I have been told the books are great. App needs workI have been using chatbooks since it was first launched and it’s great but the app has NEVER worked. Can’t sign in most of the time and if I can it just crashes. The new shipping rates are atrocious. My last order costs me $70 AUD to ship. The most I’ve ever paid (from all around the world) is max $10. Decent app. Bad service.My order is a week late and the tracking info (provided by chatbooks), says it started in Miami and ended up in Utah. I’m in Fort Lauderdale, 30 mins north of Miami. I messaged support to ask and they said my item didn’t come with tracking. So obviously I asked how I’m being provided tracking info that says it’s in Utah, if it can’t be tracked. They’re response was that SOMETIMES it does come with tracking, but the tracking is incorrect on USPS part. I’ve asked several times to give me the tracking number so I can look into it myself, and they ignore everytime. They told me to wait until 12/31 to ask them to look into it for me. That’s 3 weeks after I ordered, 2 weeks after they said it’d be here, and a week after xmas (it was supposed to be a gift)…before they will even look into it! Wish I could add screenshots of the weird conversation. Anyways…. If you download the app, definetly dont order any of the products. If you do, don’t believe the fake tracking. They will never provide an actual tracking number, and they won’t take 2 seconds to track it for you unless it’s already 2 weeks late! Bad biz..Version: 3.25.0

The app is lacking easy use optionsI just received my 1st book I ordered last week. Quality’s not bad. There are definitely quite a few improvements that are needed on the app. 1st as you allow access to your phone images, it selects the year you’d like to select images from and it goes to the beginning of the year without allowing you to select your most recent pictures, if you wanted. You literally have to scroll through an entire year to get to what you’re looking for. So annoying!!!! Also, now that I received the book, I’d like to request new copied for other family members with a few modifications. However I can’t find an option to copy the book and make the changes I want. I just emailed the support team. I truly hope they’ll help me make this easy... lastly, I received an email from the CEO regarding security breach on May 5. I also received another email stating there was an issue with my credit card and I should use the link in that email to update my CC#. But when I go to the app to view & update my CC, it’s not even showing me my payment method. I get a blank page. I’m already frustrated. It also takes a long time to view other pages under my profile, order history, etc. I feel like I’m in early 90s, using a dial-up service while I’m on this app. (And I know it’s not my internet service because I just checked on a few of my other apps)..Version: 3.12.30

Hate the recent updateI have been a user for many years and every month we print a mini book for our son and we all love looking at the photos. I am a busy parent and one of the main sources of my son’s picture is from his daycare mobile app, which saves a low-res photo but at least we get to see him playing and laughing. I have been putting tons of his photos from the daycare into the mini books, but for some reason i can no longer add those low-res photos. They just don’t show up when I open my album on the phone. I understand that pictures need to have a good quality for them to look nice on the book, but if customers don’t mind then why can’t they add low-res photos? Without those photos I was only able to collect 13 out of the 30 that’s needed to print the book. So I had to add redundant photos and even some photo from the next month in order to fill the gap. Bring back the functionality to select ANY photo we want… or I can definitely see myself switching to another platform because this just doesn’t make any sense..Version: 4.7.3

Used to be Great, Not AnymoreI used to love Chatbooks. I did all our family photos through them for years. Very disappointed when I tried to go in to the app after a long absence to try and get caught up to find that no matter what I try, the app will not work to let me continue. I even paid only to find they sent me an old Chatbooks without my permission. I tried on my PC, making a new account, to no avail. They let me down..Version: 3.24.5

Very poor1. App crashes 13 times in a row when trying to add a caption to a picture. Even after turning phone on and off midway. 2. Pictures don’t always load and a Very nice customer service lady emailed me that I’d have blank pages. No way to delete an entire book and start again either in the app or website. Instead need to delete each of the 60 pages one at a time..Version: 3.13.1

Cant change the date on cover pageThe Monthbooks: you can’t change the date on the cover page of the Monthbooks which is ridiculous. I want to print pictures from years ago but the cover page only shows the recent month you are in..Version: 4.11.7

Brutal customer serviceI ordered two books Dec 5 but the shipping went to a PO which fedex doesn’t do in Canada.. I contacted fedex but they said shipper had to fix.. contact Chatbooks and after days and days they apparently couldn’t figure that out so they issued a reprint which now won’t be here until after Christmas. Brutal efficiency and service. Will never use again..Version: 4.11.5

Glitched HeapsLots of glitches, it became a painful process of having to close the app multiple times. They also charge tax at the end as a surprise cost and base it on your total including shipping which is very dodgy. Hopefully the book is good because it took forever to make. As far as what I’ve seen online the quality is solid and should last which is why I persevered..Version: 4.11.2

Easy to useFun and easy to use app. You do need to edit your pictures before uploading them to the app though. I'm a little disappointed that the app advertised free shipping, but when I checked out my order shipping had been added 😞.Version: 2.3.7

Doesn’t work, customer service is friendly but slow** Update: Logged in for the first time with a new phone and suddenly all my old photos were added again to my album. Had to contact support yet again for something that didn’t work the way should. ** I feel like every time I want to get into this app, something new happens. First, I wanted to set up an automatic book from my Favorites. The app had to sit there for HOURS with the screen on and the app open to sync all my thousands of favorites. It also crashed after every 500 photos or so, so I had to babysit it while this sync happened. Then after all that, I had to go an individually delete all the old photos I never wanted to have printed anyway. Next, they sent me a book full of someone else’s pictures. When I contacted them, they spent a good week asking me questions before sending a replacement.. to the wrong address. It took 3 weeks to get that issue resolved. Now I get a message every day that some photos haven’t been uploaded. They don’t say which ones and the only solution is to leave the app open (they suggest overnight!) or contact customer service. So I’m contacting customer service yet again and it’s the same friendly but unhelpful back and forth that I’m so used to now with this company. I was ready to give up after the first problem, but I kept giving them more chances. For something that promises to make photo books easy, I can say they do not deliver on that promise..Version: 3.4.9

Very nice - but not worth the price for CanadiansReceived my photo book and was pleased with the quality of it. Sharp pics are sharp, instagram pics aren't too bad. I was not pleased with the fact that they only had one shipping option for Canadians (no rush delivery) which took 4 days longer than expected, almost a full month. Then I had to pay an additional $12 duty. My book was $40USD + $8USD shipping then the duty which is well over $70 Canadian total. Could have found something similar, locally, for less. Friendly customer service and good quality but not worth the price..Version: 3.0.3

Worst experience!Just gave birth to my baby boy in August and wanted to make amazing photo books for the grandparents and it has been nothing but hell and stress since I started. First, takes forever to get photos uploaded and make sure they don’t turn to blank pages or sync. I have never had an app take so long to sync photos and sometimes wouldn’t even do that. Once I thought my books were ready for printing, i reviewed my photo books that I made...there were pages missing, pictures all our of sorts My sons 1,2,3 and 4 month photo was missing from half of the grandparents books...the pictures my husband and I were most excited about 😡 Good luck calling chatbooks, you have to text them...good luck getting a response... Took 2 days for me to get a response and having those horrible books shipped to me so i have “something” to give the grandparents for Christmas. Only good thing is I got a full refund...never again will I use this app and do not recommend it to anyone Walgreens or Shutterfly 🙌🏻.Version: 3.12.8

Good price but very bad qualityThe app is great and very easy to use. But the paper is very thin and unfortunately the plastic of the cover, after just 2 days, started peeling off. From all the apps I used in the last 10 years to print books, this one was the worst..Version: 3.9.7
