Navionics® Boating for Negative User Reviews

Be aware of a very sharp practise. For many years Navionics allowed subscription up to a set number of devises under one account (although it did appear you were buying two subscriptions, but only billed once) so I have used it on IPad and IPhone. However when it kept reminding me to renew my subscription, I did so, at the usual way only to be stung with two bills! As the app was downloaded several years ago it fell short of a refund. Thanks to apple though I have had my subscription to the iPhone refunded. Since Garmin took over I have been bombarded with emails about logging in and updating my account. It would have been nice if they also let you know that the apps now were different and you need a subscription for each device. It left a sour taste for a otherwise great product! Update in developers response! It is poor customer service that that info was not send out to customer. The instructions in the answer is what I did!!! I also contacted Navionics via the app, but have had no response! I also contacted the very helpful Apple support, who has sorted it for me and it now works as it should, but no thanks to Navionics (Garmin).Version: 14.1

CrashesThe latest update crashes my iPad. It won't even open..Version: 19.0.2

Be carefulI had a subscription to USA lakes and marine but went to renew. The only Option it gave was USA and Canada. Since I was going on a fishing trip I went Ahead and renewed but honestly I don’t think I’ll ever fish in Canada. I’m old and don’t travel much so the extra mapping is useless for me. Just my 2 cents. I received a response to this review from the developer. They explained that the USA version was discontinued and the additional Canada mapping was added value. This IS true, however as I stated before, it is an additional cost to a good App that I will NEVER be able to use. I will not be fishing in Canada. Therefore no value to me. I suppose I will have to seek other mapping choices..Version: 17.2.2

Worth 10 stars before update now 1Before navionics updated their app just recently, i sold so many other boaters and anglers into joining up and purchasing the app because it was my must have every time i planned to boat somewhere especially any new places!! Now not so much.. the sonar overlay depths are now WAY off, showing holes and depths that are definitely not correct, and i mean showing it to be 50 ft in places where its only 3ft!!! And prior the update i trusted this app to still boat even when my depth Finder had broken one time!! This can be extremely dangerous for anyone trusting the app like i once had especially if in a larger vessel, someone could seriously damage Their boat or even worse hurt their selves bad. I truly hope that Garmin corrects this very bad mistake soon because if not, I will not be renewing my subscription and I’m sure many many others will feel the exact same way. Once this has been fixed, I will happily change my review back to five stars because like I said, at one point I felt this app was worth 10 stars at five, but not now. Hopefully they can go back to the old map or fix it before someone gets hurt, bad or worse..Version: 19.0.2

Maps in low resolution on iPadI haven Navionics on my iPhone which has lots of detail but when I use the same account on my iPad it comes up in very low resolution with no detail. I’ve tried all of the different map layers and played with all the settings and it still offered no improvement. I subscribed (and paid again!) with another account to find the same thing. Useless and frustrating, with no help anywhere to be found. We’re now £70 down and still don’t have a useful product..Version: 16.3.1

Auto-route is best feature—but keeps getting worse!N avionics has always done a mediocre job with data visualization. Their colors and fonts are very dated, and it always feels like you are using a 2000 version of Mapquest, or a commercial ECDIS. It was never /bad/ just always sort of clunky and visually boring compared to a modern map or chart program. I have remained loyal to Navionics for one reason—their auto-route feature; sometimes they call it “Dock-to-Dock”. It has been an awesome planning tool for my wife and I as we travel up and down the ICW, around the Chesapeake, and through New England. Until the latest version. They have now eliminated the ability to change the active waypoint. It seems inconsequential, but it has a massive impact. Developers: give us back our numbered vertices! (and hire a graphics artist while you are at it!).Version: 18.0

Effective but…The interface isn’t intuitive. No night mode 🤬 Maps take forever to download. 🤬 Would love an auto log feature. Every x hours it would plot your position and the data to add to your log. It honestly feels like the chart makers went to a software engineer and said build an app. The software engineer has never been boating and the chart makers had zero input on the creation of the app..Version: 18.2.1

NavionicsApp often will not open on my phone! Reboot phone, still no joy🤷‍♂️.Version: 19.0.2

Pretty good for North upBeen using the app for about 3 years, mostly the paid ipad version. Works well and the maps for perth local waters are fairly good. The customisation of the maps is also good, though not particularly intuitive to set up. Main issue I have is when I select head up or course up for map orientation. Sort of works providing you don’t pinch and zoom too much. Frequently flicks back to north up, occasionally locking me out of selecting head up again without force closing and restarting app. Bit annoying when you’re heading into a reefy bay..Version: 17.1.1

Was good until login requiredThe whole point of having this was that it could be used off line. Now it won’t start until I login and it can’t do that “because I am offline”. Really poor update on the 18th December. Has made the app unusable and I have paid for it..Version: 17.1.1

Looks like it needs improvingNote to developers: I’ve been using this app for over a decade, have always been very satisfied, and have recommended it to several other yachtsmen. However, it looks like recent changes have ruined it. I’m well overdue an upgrade but having read the recent reviews I won’t be parting with my money (golly, quite a lot now) until I start seeing some more positive reviews or a notification that the login issues are resolved. I recognise your decision to move to a mandatory annual subscription, but at the prices you have set you must realise this will deter a large number of users, potentially resulting in less overall revenue. But most importantly, if this subscription model means that users regularly need to log in, requiring an internet connection, then you have completely misunderstood the primary use case. To spell it out, the app is mostly used at sea or in coastal areas where there is often minimal or zero mobile data coverage and certainly no wifi. Although it should never be used as the primary navigation system, it must still be reliable otherwise it becomes worthless. As I say, I won’t be upgrading to the latest version until this is fixed, nor recommending the app to other yachtsmen. Please consider this feedback carefully and do what you can to restore the app to its former glory. GJ RYA Yachtmaster..Version: 20.1.2

Used to be goodThis app was perfect for navigation until recently. Why make it necessary to log in? 3 times now it has logged me out automatically and then not allowed me to log back in therefore unable to use app. Last time this happened I was in a situation where it was essential I could use it. Thankfully had access to another navigation system. Can not rely on this anymore. What a waste of subscription fee. Developer has since been in touch to say the problem has been resolved however it seems it is still necessary to log in which is not possible when you are out of signal..Version: 18.0.2

Charts no Longer yoursLatest updates removes ability to use charts after subscription expires. This is counter to what they stated in previous versions. Cost is also rising..Version: 20.0.2

TerribleWay too much crap want to keep it basic cant get back to simplicity location direction speed.Version: 19.1

Needs some attention. Please fix it.Several years ago this was the best. Now it does not stack up. It has not improved in 3 years. My biggest complaint is that I cannot use it on the intracoastal waterway on a leg of more than 20 miles. That makes it useless as a planning tool. It constantly throws a “too many points” error message on a leg of any length. I have a slow sailboat, but I still can make 40-60 miles in a day. This needs to be fixed or I will not renew. I received a relatively lame response and was send to a web address to learn than a route is limited to 200 points. I was told to break my day into multiple legs. That is not “dock to dock routing.” That is a pill. If you have ever seen their routes you can see that a route should be 2000 points, not 200. This should not be a difficult change for Navionics..Version: 17.0.2

Not confident about tide timesI use the boating Navionics app on my phone and iPad. However, the tide times do not reflect the info from every other reputable source. For example. On Fri 8th July HW at Poole entrance is 0403 according to the application. But admiralty and every other table I check says 0216. I love all the charts and plotting capability, but the tide times worry me. Is it me ? Surely they cannot be wrong!.Version: 18.0

Missing current data icons in CanadaWhere are is the information for Dodds Narrows etc. I paid for premium and now have less data. Not impressed!.Version: 18.1.4

Was excellent but no more. Too greedy nowBefore Garmin purchased navionics it was the best, most user friendly and value for money navigation app infinitely better than the Garmin app. Now they’ve applied their greedy business style and destroyed a perfectly good navigation app. Maybe they should get rid of the marketing department and save money and increase sales by supplying a good product. It’s so disappointing that short sighted nuff nuffs have ruined what was a great product due to their hubris! ( morons).Version: 17.0.2

Way to expensive$29.99 a year was not so bad but the same features and maps for $79.99?!?!? get real I’d rather paddle my boat five miles after ripping off my lower unit than be scammed into this.Version: 20.0.3

PainfulWe are planning a crossing of the Indian Ocean, Red Sea and Mediterranean this fall. I took the time to download all the potential areas that we might enter. Using a very expensive yet slow and unreliable internet connection here in Malaysia it took weeks to get all the little squares selected and downloaded. But I was persistent and got them all downloaded and thought I was ready to go. Now they have disappeared, gone! This is totally not a good situation, we could be weeks away from land and any internet or phone tower. When you are in the middle of the ocean, doing a new download is not an option! I just now checked my iPad, I had taken the time to download, using that tiny little download box, I worked my way all the way around Africa and through the Med charts. It was all loaded for offline use. Now the Africa charts are gone!! Two separate devices. Different missing charts. This is just a very frustrating application. Now it will cost me time and money to download all the charts again!! Is it worth it? You cannot rely on the charts you need to be on your devices. I would highly discourage anyone from purchasing this app or charts..Version: 14.3

Continually crashesI’ve been using the UK and Ireland and similar areas for a few years now but the latest versions on both iPhone and iPad crashes all the time. Forum chats suggest that having other apps open at the same time can cause problems but have tried avoiding that, I’ve re-installed several times and restart the devices but always have a problem that the app simply shuts down after a few minutes on every use whether on iPhone or iPad. Very frustrating and dangerous when trying to use for navigation of any sort if you continually loose your position..Version: 18.0.1

The maps are good but everything else could be better…I like this app, I want to like it more. The maps are solid. However the user interface leaves a little to be desired. Its hard to really put my finger on what makes the UI bad, but its just not easy and intuitive to use. However my biggest issue is that routes are limited to 1000 points. This is a really odd limitation they have placed in the app. What ever the reason for it, it needs to change. Other apps don’t have this issue. 1000 points in a route may not be a very long one along the ICW where it meanders and snakes around..Version: 17.2.2

Was a great app, but now it just keeps crashingPurchased the maps on this app and used it for a few months and absolutely loved it. Then all of a sudden the app keeps crashing to the point it won’t even open. Have already tried updating the app, my phone, force closed everything and it still will not open. Was worth the money when it was working correctly but I would not purchase it again until they sort the app out and it works normally again. Until then it’s just a waste of money if you pay for this app..Version: 19.0.2

David Griffiths14th July 2019. As a Regular user over the years of various Navionics products for many areas around the world with great success. Recently I have been using the latest Boating iPhone app that has replaced these and now found that after updating my subscription for the Europe area the Wind data that was previously displayed for SW Greece now comes up with ‘Connection failed. Please check your connection and try again later’ even though I have a fast home WiFi and 3 mobile phone connection. All this worked prior to my renewal subscription..Version: 13.4

Used to be goodKeeps crashing! Sometimes the charts I have saved wont zoom / are blocky. Struggle to rely on this now. Used to be excellent for years - had this on iPhone 4 / in fact bought the 4 for navionics. When it IS working fantastic - we’ve built the way we race on solent around this app..Version: 19.0.2

Navionics new update downgrade in qualityAfter the most recent update the quality of the relief shading has degraded considerably to the point where its very pixelated and bad quality compared to before the update. Its a great app and wouldnt be without it but just thought if make a note of this degradation on the new update.Version: 19.0.2

Trying to do way too muchThis app has gone from pretty good to rotten. It’s become overly complex and difficult to use for simple safe navigation. I love the active Captain integration and it’s the only thing keeping me as a customer for now. The charts are solid and I like the sonar depths. However there are lots of other sources for this data. The recent changes exacerbated an already undue amount of complexity. I’ll be looking for an alternative when my sub runs out. For context, we live aboard and have done 8000 sailing miles in the last 24 months. We also use Navionics in our B&G gear where this user experience doesn’t exist. Terrible terrible terrible..Version: 18.0

New VersionThe old Canada navionics was great. Just recently made me change to the new version. Lost all my waypoints and now is a yearly subscription..Version: 18.2.2

Great but recently buggyHaving constant crashes, failure to update location..Version: 19.1

Dishonest developerI’ve downloaded this app years ago as “free”. However, the free version is useless, so I subscribed to the paid version (3 times so far). They used to say (and it still might say) that your purchased and downloaded charts are free for life. Not so. I just opened the app first time this season and I couldn’t even open it without signing up for a new Garmin account. Once did, it tells me I got no downloaded charts for Canada or the US and I need to subscribe again. I also have two chart plotters that separately demands payment for updated nacionics charts, that were fully paid for in-store WITH LIFETIME CHART UPDATES, or I guess until policy updates. Bye-bye Navionics aka Garmin, I’ll never give you my money again, even if I have to go to a subpar competition of yours, or have to use paper charts for the rest of my life..Version: 17.2.2

Can’t login,Why is it that I’ve done the upgrade yrs ago and now I can’t access the app?.Version: 19.0.2

Terrible don’t use!Been using Navionics paid version for 2 years. I go and update my app today and now it keeps saying “error while logging in try again later” - unacceptable to have these issues given the success of earlier versions. Time for C-map 👍.Version: 17.2.2

Would the app developer please provide supportThis is the most expensive app I have bought. It worked well for a while but now it asks me to login which is ridiculous because the very nature of the app is that it takes you to places where the internet is not available. What was once a quirky but usable app is pointless now. I have not been able to update it and I cannot login so if you are a potential user you may wish to consider this flaw before you buy, it won’t work when you do not have internet access. If you are the developer then please rewind this change and return the product I paid for or just refund the money if you are incapable of common sense and rational thought. Thank you..Version: 15.1

Ok, it’s just okayThird year of using the App, it’s great for at a glance planning. Maybe some weather and a little helpful on routing. Just updated to the latest because the location specific apps are being sun-setted. The charts are ok, sometimes better than others sometimes worse. Have anchored on land according to charts in the southern San Blas at times for example. The biggest problem that hasn’t been addressed in the last 3 years is the initial chart down load. You pay for a region or chart then are forced to down load in pieces or squares. That works fine on fast connections. As a world traveler, a download all button even if it downloaded the same pieces would save hours and hours pinching and “requesting download” of pieces of the region. After every piece you have to re-zoom and go find the boundaries of what has already been downloaded. Downloading the pacific charts is going to take a few days of perseverance at the local watering hole. Ugh. It’s fine to have the selective download, but ALSO include a “gimme what I paid for” (ALL) option as well. That will run without having to have the app open and babysat the entire time. For comparison I use C-Map, Garmin and all kinds of public charts in OpenCpn and my “eyes” as most electronic charts are off at one time or another. 15,000 miles from Atlantic, Caribbean, to southern Chile, Pacific is next..Version: 13.2

Junk used to be free now everything is you have to pay and can’t even do 2 week trailApp used to be good now you can’t even do a 2 week trial piece of junk.Version: 15.5

Route/Track Header toggle***update to developer response. *********** Yeah, that is the problem. ONLY the track info is available in the header. The previous versions had a TOGGLE between track info on ROUTE info. The route info in the header had such info as time and mileage to the next route point. Without that, you have to do a lot of work to get that info. It was nice to have it quickly available. ********************************************** I used boating USA app to sail from New Orleans to Guatemala. It was a truly valuable app. Although I had other navigation systems to rely on as back up, I never used them. I will likely use this app again, next season, to continue down to Panama. The updates make the functionality different, and I'm sure I will learn it. If I can make one request, it would be to put back the Header Toggle between Route and Track info. Having that info available so quickly was very handy. That Header held a wealth of useful info, that just isn't there in the update. Bring that back, and you'll have a great product again..Version: 13.4

No definition on chartI’ve just bought a new iPhone transferred everything across to it from my old phone everything works great except the Navionics chart Boating! It now gives a basic chart with no definition at all useless!! I bought this chart some years ago on the basis that it was a one off payment. Please advise as to what has changed!!!!.Version: 20.0.3

Unstable, constant crashing.IPad with iOS 15.5. Program crashes frequently or does not start at all. When it’s open and I select Start to track: crash. Switch to another program, come back and it has lost the map. Or it shows the map, but lost the gps and does not show your position nor your speed. This version is not usable and in need of serious debugging..Version: 18.0

IPad Pro 2021 loosing gpsI bought a top of the line iPad Pro 11inch 2021 edition with M1 chip so that I can use this app and have the best app experience. However, as soon as I started using the app, I can see something that many users are complaining about- loosing gps signal. This happens constantly now, where the position marker defaults to north and the speed shows zero. I am running the app on multiple devices, and only the iPad doesn’t work. This is such a disappointment as I can now not use the iPad for the very reason I bought it. Navionics, please can you tell me the status of this gps issue that has clearly been ongoing for quite some time.Version: 17.0.2

Not GoodHave used this app along side my navionics on axiom on my boat for over 7 years with no issues apart from the massive price increases. Since the recent updates the auto routing on iPad and iPhone have been unstable and unusable with errors route calculation not possible please download maps. A viscous circle then keeps you going round in circles rubbish. Now thinking of changing apps and charts for boat might go over to Raymarine charts unless all these bugs fixed..Version: 20.1.2

Subscription issuesLove this app as has all the detail that I need being new to the boating world but have had issues with the app wanting me to renew my subscription every 3 months. Can’t access the features I am entitled to and can be frustrating..Version: 14.7

Avis sur l’applicationElles est à amélioré trop de détails.Elle devrait être simplifiée a vouloir trop bien faire on fait le contraire..Version: 19.1

Chart has lost all informationPurchased this app years ago and now I have to pay to view my previous maps . They have deleted all my app info water depths and channel markers etc just want what I paid for not interested in subscription.Version: 17.2.2

Update: Hold off on this latest version2022.11.16 in a desperate attempt to remedy the continuing worsening problems after the last update i completely deleted the app and all associated data. i also deleted all my saved routes and waypoints. (i run the app on my phone and ipad - routing data is kept in the cloud and will reload when you log in.) after reloading everything from scratch, the app appears to be functioning as it should now. i still have some playing to do as per map updates and working offline but so far so good. i raise my rating from 0 stars to three. if the app turns out to be as reliable as the original this rating will go to 5 again. ——————— this app used to have it all. now not usable without internet connection. oh, it lets you download all your maps but seems to need to download more whenever you want to edit an old route or plan a new route. previous planning functionality has also been lost. i suspect that this might be remedied. i have given this app 5 stars in past and have virtually lived on it when cruising. now i'm looking for something else. note: make sure you test ALL your planned routes BEFORE you leave home and fast internet. there are many 'hidden' downloads required not included in the 'update maps' function. just downloaded an additional 4Gb of 'hidden' map data to get me from the Broughtons to Bella Bella. very slow and uses up your data allowance..Version: 18.1

Anchor watchGreat app needs, anchor watch function..Version: 13.2

Do not purchase.I purchased this app a few years back. Once iOS 11 was release like many others on this review I couldn’t use any more. The developer is making it hard for people to get upgraded by asking for old receipts. The developer will have our purchase information and should make our lives easier. This is a great app but not cheap..Version: 10.9.4

At least the maps are goodThe bathymetry data for most of the waters I paddle and fish in are excellent and accurate, but the app itself is terrible. Not a surprise for a Garmin product, unfortunately. They have great hardware and maps, but their software is often disappointing. Power efficiency is rubbish. My phone becomes hot to the touch within 30 seconds of opening the app, and using it for any length of time tanks my battery. Since I often use it from a kayak, where connecting to external power is not possible, this is a major liability. The app is incompatible with the Deeper fish finder app — seemingly an insoluble bug. So I can either have sonar or bathymetry. Given the power consumption issues, I choose sonar when I’m out on the water..Version: 18.2.1

Do not download latest update!I had a subscription for a chart that expired in 2019. Since then, as advertised, the chart remained but did not receive new updates. Updated the app today and now the chart is gone - left with block graphics instead. Tried “restore purchases” but all it tells me is that my subscription expired! Then goes on to tell me that expired charts will remain on my device! Oh no they won’t..Version: 16.2

I can’t read the DEPTHWhat is the one thing you need from a chart but can’t get from just sitting in your boat ? WATER DEPTH. So, I bought the $15 subscription and kept this as a digital plan B when out on the water. When I tried to use it on the water (not an ideal reading environment ) I had to stop the boat and zoom in and out so the water depth was shown in a font bigger than 1cm. When zooming, the iPhone will digitally zoom and increase the depth markings to a readable size. Then the app redraws the map at a higher magnification and dutifully represents depth in the smallest font possible. I could not see depth on a iPhone plus. Why can’t this be set as a user option???? By the way, the finger pinch is generally interpreted as a “move to a location 100 miles from here...”. This app is too mature to suffer from basic user interface problems like this. Can’t the developer just clone a fishfinder/gps user interface? Garmin has one, and Garmin owns Navionics. Why sell an app that sports a half-baked user interface? But if you are sitting in a dark room with reading glasses, have plenty of patience, and perfect the pinch maneuver, you can scope out some new waterways with this app. Better yet, use the web browser interface for free and on a HUGE monitor you will be able to see depths. And you will avoid pinch vs move user interface confusion..Version: 15.0

Not able to get password resetI must have messed up my password into the app. So after several mistakes? Don’t know why. The app then locked me out. All requests to get a new password sent to me have met with a non responce. I called Garmin in Australia, they confirmed that I have an account registered to the email I am using..Version: 18.0.2

Was my primary navigation toolBeen using navionics for over 10 years. Back then it was my goto tool. I’ve captured thousands of sea miles and hundreds of anchorage. But appears stability is a problem the last few years, for me that’s a show stopper - because my life depends on these types of apps not crashing (especially when I’m approaching an anchorage or New Harbour). Please navionics address stability asap - I don’t want to change platforms, but will if I have to SV Sweetwaters.Version: 19.0.2

Warning, forced subscription. Cloud and big data ahead. With the last update, Garmin is now forcing users to create an account before allowing access to the app. Even if you have a current subscription purchased under the old model. They are claiming the community asked for it and it was done solely to share subscriptions and stored data across devices. However if this was truly the case, they could have easily made use of an account optional. One has to wonder what exactly they are up to with user data. Garmin folks: this practice violates trust with the user community and will result in loss of market share when the next option comes around. Please consider supporting all your user types, not just adjusting policies to what the business guys say provides the best return on investment..Version: 14.8

Captains problemsI have paid for this app mow more times than i care to remember. I have just switched back to apple and have had to pay for it again. Just sorted the maps for my iphone and now when i go on my new ipad it says there are no purchases. Are you trying to get me to pay per device now. This is becoming a rip off. I rely on your software as a back up for the on boat systems but am likely to change..Version: 10.9.3

I have used this Ap for years, but almost useless nowReally disappointing. I use this on an iPhone 13 max. Went from great to crap in the last couple of seasons. Do not think developers have ever been on a boat, and certainly never fished. Too many things to complain about, but the main reason I will dump this is because the NavUp/CourseUp/NorthUp is so screwed up that it is right about 1 times in 8, but as soon as you zoom or recenter you get to start the whole process over and there is guarantee that you get it right no matter how many times you cycle It is maddening and basically useless if you are trying to move to a specific destination. Does not happen on my chart reader (which has the same synced data) SK I know it is a bug in the newer versions of the Ap (last 2 seasons). Other grips are the subscription system which are terrible. I have an active subscription, but every time I look at anything it wants me to buy another subscription. Just a very frustrating Ap from start to finish. And I loved it for years!!.Version: 19.0.2

Frustrating appThis is one of the most frustrating unintuitive apps I have ever used. The directions on the side do not match what you see on the screen, that is extremely frustrating. Especially when the app does not work like you would think it would. If you are creating a route you should be able to"save" the route. That is not how it works you're supposed to press route again, completely unintuitive. The other way to save her route is to actually press start, but I don't want to start the route this is a row I'm creating for the future. But this is the only way to save the route. Even though the app says I have two routes I only have one. Extremely frustrating will not be renewing my subscription.Version: 14.8

Markers synced then disappeared while fishingI dropped my iPhone 6 in the water, put navionics on my new iPhone 6 the next day and miraculously all of my markers appeared. They stayed for 2 weeks until the weekend when I got half way too one of hem and all of them disappeared! So bummed I didn’t write them down, this app is good for navigation yes but not worth the money you pay if the marker information is so worthless too the app producers. You should be able to go to a page where not just markers come up in a list, the last and longs should be displayed underneath!.Version: 11.1

No longer able to download previously purchased mapsI’ve been using this for about 10 years and it’s was good up until this month. I bought Australasia maps way back, and have been using it since. The latest updates no longer let you download any previously purchased maps unless you have an active subscription. Their excuse is they’ve changed their subscription model. I don’t want any premium features- just the maps I paid for. I’ve reported it to the ACCC..Version: 20.0.2

What Happened?I have used this app for several years and it has been stable and easy to use. This new version has added all kinds of automatic features that make the experience repetitive and just plain bad. Why does the map zoom out when I select an item? I have to zoom back in to see the detail again. What happened to the route creation where you would add points as you go and see your fuel consumption? Now it automatically adds a final point and you have to move it out of the way when creating waypoints and there is no fuel usage information. I paid for 2 subscriptions and after the third crash neither are loading so all I get is a blank chart and pop-ups asking for more money. This app doesn’t even deserve 1 star. I feel robbed!.Version: 16.2

Error logging inSince Jan 1st 2022 I can no longer log into the app on my IPhone - it just keeps saying connection failed. Incredibly frustrating - I have even spoken to the help chat and they couldn’t fix it. I am away cruising in my yacht for 4 weeks - what a total fail. Something you have changed has caused an issue and you need to sort it out and hand out refunds..Version: 17.1.1

TheivesThese people sold an expensive app to the public - nearly 100 dollar one time fee…then they systematically terminated it and replaced it with a subscription service. When I contacted them, they said if I had the ORIGINAL PHONE with the ORIGINAL APP installed it would work, and that it was their choice to not support it. When I countered their argument, they refused to answer. They deserve bankruptcy - get something else. Was a crap app anyway..Version: 19.0.2

Appalling helpI bought this some while ago, then just recently it would not let me in without logging in with a password which I never remember creating and have no record off. That wouldn’t be a problem if if then did as it said it would and sent me a password. I have sent several messages to their help desk and tried to do an online chat but they have failed miserably and I am still unable to log in.Version: 14.0

Fonts for depth are too small on ipadBack in the day, when I first started using on my ipad, there were two options for the size of the fonts on depth. Since they dis away with this feature, and left it at the smallest size, it has been uncomfortable to use when putting down crab and prawn traps. When zooming in to close ups the depth reading fonts should zoom as well..Version: 20.0.2

Position cursor freezesI’ve used the old Navionics app for Europe (mainly for rivers, canals and lakes) and it worked perfectly on my 5th Gen IPad...smooth running and no glitches. Reliable. Just a few days ago I downloaded the new app and updated the chart and on two journeys now it’s just frozen ...worse than useless as I’ve been constantly attempting to fault find whilst cruising. How did such a formerly reliable app become so useless? Update: Thanks to Navionics who responded via Facebook to my comments. But you guys must make it CRYSTAL CLEAR to customers before they give you their cash that this app won’t work effectively on ‘WiFi only’ 5th Gen iPads/Apple devices not fitted with ‘A-GPS’... ...otherwise you are still going to cultivate a lot of disgruntled (ex?) customers..Version: 14.1

Not stable any more. Unsafe. Poor supportI’ve been a navionics user for over a decade and have considered the subscription to be good value for money. During the last year though, the app has become very unstable (iPhone 11), crashing without warning after minutes or seconds of use. I do not feel it is safe to use at sea any more. The support is also disappointing. I have emailed recently several times and not even had a reply after 2 weeks. I doubt I’ll renew my subscription, as there are other similar products that won’t crash all the time and so let me record a track..Version: 19.0.2

Sick of itHave been paying big money for years for this app for iPhone and iPad. Well behind the times. Crashes when looking at anchor history input Of it her users. I feel like I’m using game boy instead of what should be a cutting edge app.Version: 19.1

Expensive and deceptiveI bought this app years ago. I used it for planing kayaking trips. It was great back then. It included all the data. There was no subscription fee. It was EXPENSIVE at the time; the most expensive app I’d ever bought. I think it was $48. I hadn’t used it for a while. Now I had to pay for a subscription to use it. None of my data is there. Not only that, but the subscription price doesn’t include any data. No nautical chart is included in the subscription price! You have to pay an additional $15 for a nav chart “overlay.” And to get both US and Canada (which my subscription was supposed to cover) I need to buy two overlays. What once was a great app is now a very expensive subscription service. It might work for you if you use this on a yacht and can afford it, but for paddling I guess I’m going back to paper charts. It’s not worth it..Version: 17.1.1

UnfortunateThat is all I can say about Version 18.0. With limited data available and often sketchy cell service when away from the big downtown city, requiring cell service to have complete functionality of a marine product is ludicrous. What were the developers thinking? I would like to roll back to the previous Version 17.2.2..Version: 18.0

Cannot connect to log inCompletely useless waste of $30. Can’t log into the app at all. I continue to get a message saying “Connection failed, please try again later”. I’m not using an antivirus or ad blockers..Version: 17.1.1

Can’t even create an accountBlocked by their server offer downloading app and attempt to create account.Version: 19.0.2

Not what I had hoped for 😞So I’m quite new to boating and am concentrating on in shore fishing, after downloading my local map adjusting all the depth and couloir ranges I opened it up to plot my day only to find that 90 % of the water i fish that I know to be in excess of 10 ft at high tides still show as zero water and the same at low, how can I trust a app that tells me there’s no water when there is on average a 2/3 meter difference at high and low 🤔.Version: 19.0.2

Fee gougingBeen using this app for years (10+) and was happy to pay the subscription until now . A 5x increase to $100 is unreal. Will start looking elsewhere. All the best, your old loyal supporter..Version: 20.0.3

Can’t log in or create a new account in new version of appThe older version was great- enjoyed using it and we would love to continue using the app, it’s a yearly subscription that is affordable - now with the upgrades we can’t log in nor can we create a new account - however we can log into the older version but all of the info that was saved ln the older version has been lost - someone please contact and leave an email address that can be used outside of the app for those of us they are unable to access the app at all. Thanks in advance.Version: 17.1.1

Why can’t we turn off auto subscription renewal via app!Currently we can renew our subscription and use all features via app. But when it comes to turning off subscription we need to go to a website… and this process is not shared in the app’s subscriptions section. This doesn’t look right. It means you are trying to make it difficult for consumers to turn-off their auto renewals..Version: 20.1.2

IPad & iPhone versions are different products, which don't syncI tried the iPad and iPhone versions, which have good functionality. I bought a subscription from on my phone, because iPad was charging. Turns out the iPad and iPhone versions are different products and don't sync. I now have the product on my phone, when I rally wanted it on my iPad. You can install the phone version on iPad, but looks very clunky as resolution is for phone. Actual nautical functionality seems quite good, but very disappointed with the fact they are completely different versions isn't explained, and a subsequent lack of support. Feel ripped off..Version: 11.1

Connection Error - Needs Fixing!I’ve been attempting to download and purchase the sonarcharts etc, however despite reinstalling the app, trying other peoples phones, and triple checking my internet connection, the app refuses to let me past the login/signup page saying “Connection Failed” this seems to be for the IOS app only. If this can be fixed as soon as possible that would be great. I’ve also attempted to purchase the charts through a account created on the website but it insists on canada and US residents only. Any help would be appreciated.Version: 17.1.1

Waste of timeAccount creation failed, no login possible, app deleted: waste of time....Version: 17.2.2

Garmin Money-GrabSo like so many other apps you have turned to an exorbitant subscription revenue stream. Well I am not impressed. Just because Garmin smelled money does not justify this renewing price hike. And worse, you are threatening users with making the maps and features inaccessible if they don’t go along for the ride, including people like me who previously BOUGHT said maps. Why not have a two-tier system: Entry (can still purchase and use maps but they will be static, i.e. no updates except to the app itself) and Pro (subscription based that provides users with all the bells and whistles, as stated in your recent promotions)..Version: 20.0.2

Full version did not transfer to my new phoneA few days after purchasing the full version of Boating Us & Canada my I phone crashed. When I setup my new phone and went into my I cloud to retrieve my apps, only the 15 day free trial reloaded. Now I’m stuck without the app and being asked to purchase the full version again. Also have had no response from the help line on Navionic’s website..Version: 11.1

Works but I bought it years ago now it wants a subscriptionWas great payed good money years ago and then they removed the old app and now it wants more money to use the features that I payed for already.. other then that it’s a good app..Version: 18.0

Bought subscription and now forced to upgradeThis was a great offline app, which I bought years ago. I tried the new version (which seemed good), however have now lost the ability to use the old app which was fine for my purposes. I don't use this frequently enough to justify purchasing, especially for features that I don't need..Version: 17.2.2

Recent switch to a full subscription model and cutoff from SonarPhone is unethical and unacceptableI bought my subscription for the last three years with the understanding that if a time came when I cancelled my subscription, I would have access to whatever version of charts I had previously accessed. That’s what I paid for. That’s what was advertised - indefinite access to charts that would no longer get updates if you stopped paying. Fine. Whatever. I begrudgingly accepted that. Now, they have simultaneously removed support for SonarPhone (and expensive and reliable product that I bought precisely for Navionics) and made it so they can go and steal what you bought out from under you. All this while subscription prices have quadrupled since I first looked into Navionics four years ago and literally no improvements have been made to the GUI, user friendliness, or legibility of their charts. At this point I’m almost inspired to develop my own charts because I fail to see the advantage of Navionics anymore. Really quite disappointed two years ago I would have given it a four star review..Version: 20.0.3

Problème au lancement de l’apps!Depuis la nouvelle mise à jour, L’application ce ferme tout de suite.Version: 18.0.2

Buy at your own riskI bought this app from Navionics back when they sold regional apps. Later they got “seller’s remorse” and decided that they didn’t make enough money off of those of us that purchased their product, so they discontinued it and went to a yearly subscription. I opened my app to use it only to find that I needed to pay to use it AGAIN! Every other app developer grandfathers their current customers who helped support them. Not Navionics! Make sure you know that at any time Navionics may decide that they want to make more money off of you and when they do, they’ll simply stop providing what you paid for and demand more money to use the product you already bought. Buyer beware!!! Note the response from Navionics. I can re-download the app I already bought. They replaced my purchased app with the subscription app hoping I’d just roll over and pay again! Deal with this unscrupulous amoral company at your own risk..Version: 18.0

App saying downloaded maps couldn’t be foundAll of a sudden on the same device the app wouldn’t get past where I could use it, as if I had no subscriptions so I uninstalled and now I can’t even log in. Been a long time user and the website is useless for customer service please fix this issue, not sure if it happened after the last update.Version: 19.0.2

Related or notThey updated the terms of service and made it so the coordination account they allow now only allows two users to be logged into the app. This is NOT the licensing of the application itself. It is the data repository the application allows. This limitation is to two devices. I have two Zeus plotters that I and crew synch routes and highlight navigation challenges on. That means we are using at any one time three iPads, and two iPhones with the account. Suddenly that isn’t possible. Not cool. I see a few other apps have started doing the same thing. Navionics I don’t know the right number of log ins but two makes this app more of a toy than a tool..Version: 20.0.2

Still Trial...heading mode all is upside downWhen I go in heading view (and heading south in this example), all the legends and info on the chart is upside down. Is this as intended? I also fly an airplane, and all GPS's including a GNS 430 keep the info upright and legible regardless of North Up or Track Up. To developer's response: goodness, man, we are driving a boat through moving water...what would make you think all that data is LESS important just because we want where we are going in front of us? Especially depths. Yes, please change that. There wouldn’t be a single boater in a thousand who would disagree. The more I think of it, the more ridiculous this is. We all drive cars with GPSs in them...even the developers do...who ever HEARD of a GPS that would present legends to you upside down! Talk about missing the point of a GPS system. My god..Version: 14.1

Free trial won’t workWants me to pay $35 a year to use the app, but I can’t even get the trial subscription to work to see if it’s worth it..Version: 18.0.2

What happened?!Been using it for years on same lake no problem. Loved it for planning longer distance to help with time a d fuel calculations. Would always struggle some with automatic routing and I could just help it along by dragging and moving red line. Now it takes 5 mins or more to attempt a route. Wont let me edit it “too many points” and the I try to manually add points and let automatic routing help me out and it’s constantly trying to load something. Also map layers look terrible now One they took to much detail away the other added in too much. So bummmed used to recommend to everyone and now will be looking for replacement..Version: 16.3.1

Not good for planning ahead but has its uses.Tides only go 4 days ahead. You can’t plan a trip in advance to work out best dates to travel. Always wants to plan trip from where you are now so if planning a trip in a weeks time from Devon you can’t do it unless you actually go to Devon. It is however useful for real time information & current location..Version: 17.2

I’m confused!Have used the free version for the Mediterranean which is impressive. I’d now like to subscribe on my iPhone but it seems unclear whether I can use the app when I buy an iPad for the boat next year. Tales of needing a second subscription for a higher resolution version. Sadly, don’t appear to be able to contact Navionics via their website..Version: 15.3

Paid for now can’t accessCan you please tell me how to get back into my app - asking me to subscribe but I already did and paid! Update: Quick response from developer. In the end I had to click on start free trial then once in app was able to ‘restore purchase’. This was just irritating as I was on the water at the time and it wanted to redownload base data. Apart from these inconveniences the product itself is great - I mainly use for a simple way to see direction/speed of currents..Version: 15.1

Latest UpdateI was looking forward to the newest update but once I started planning routes, I’m now pretty disappointed in some of the new features. Sometimes my route looks great, other times it just shows me a straight solid line that goes through land. The newly added “hazards” along my route shows me absolutely nothing. On Aquamaps if I click on “hazards” it actually shows me where every hazard is along my route and gives me in depth detail on each hazard. Not sure that it’s useful being told that there are 13 hazards and nothing more. I will probably end up using my husbands phone as I did not update the latest version on his phone..Version: 18.0

Sonar imagery queryI don’t have the sonar imagery as an option on the boating app I have renewed my subscription thinking this would give this option, but it seems not. What do I need to do to get this, I believe to have the latest version of the app?.Version: 18.0.3

Loast all my charts because it made me download the new appHappily navigating my way around the canary islands ( very secluded area of the world ) Am told by the old app to download the new one . As it says, all your data and charts will be transferred to the new app. So i do this, next minute i open the new app and there is not one of my charts ( $200 worth as iam in the middle of a yacht circumnavigation around the world) not to mention leaving me stranded without navigation aid?? I have these charts on 3 different devices as back ups. All 3 decided they didnt want to show me the purchased charts anymore. Yes i could have spend more money and downloaded the chart i needed at the time. But what the hell?.Version: 13.2

Auto renewal should be against the lawEmbedding a preference change in an update that would auto renew is just another attempt from these people to squeeze more money out of customers who have already paid for their product. We should all complain to Apple about this..Version: 20.0.3

Areas of no mobile dataI love the app and recommend it but the navionics boating is lacking compared to the Uk and Holland app as I have noticed when I open the app with no mobile data due to lack of service in remote areas my pre download maps are not available and I get greeted by the world base chart. Which has caused me to use the old app as this does not happen. This needs to be sorted as although I do not use the app as my only means of navigating but it would be nice to consistent reliable charts out of mobile data. This may be a bug but it’s quite a big one..Version: 14.3

Trop dispendieuxTrop dispendieux pour utiliser 5 fois durant l’été. Merci.Version: 15.0

Rating for this this update onlyI have just updated my app which was working flawlessly with this update. I immediately lost all my charts, one of which I only purchased last week, and can no longer get the app to open. Very frustrating. I still have had no response from Navionics so can’t now leave the dock! There is presumably a glitch with the update, so can’t recommend updating..Version: 15.3

Ipad air 5 m1 chip wifi/cellularDo not bother getting this app for this device.. On my new ipad air with apples M1 chip wifi/cellular. the Tracking is very intermittent, rendering navigation useless on my ipad . Worth noting tho is that At the same time tracking stops on the new ipad. The tracking on my iphone XR and my old ipad mini2 works flawleslly. What the hell is going on?Is Navionics not compatible with the new M1 chip on the air and the pro ?.Version: 19.1

Update at your perilI have now resigned myself to the fact that my perfectly functionable iPad that has served me well for years is not good enough for the software engineers that have designed the latest UPGRADE OR UPDATE to the app. When I try and load it now it simply tells me my iPad is no longer COMPATIBLE. No warnings given just a simple waste of subscription again. If you guys want to keep tweaking and IMPROVING the app that's fine, but to just cut me off like this is not tenable and ultimately will result a move to more compatible apps. No doubt this may explain, in part at least, the sudden increase in subscribers and the breaking up of areas to try and increase revenue. It will fail and you software writers will find yourselves redundant soon as we leave. The day Garmin took over the writing was on the wall I guess. Global corporate interests before safe navigation of those of us that have supported what was a great app for almost two decades. Don't bother people, there are plenty of cheaper and more compatible alternatives..Version: 18.0.2

Useless and dangerousDo not rely on this mick mouse app not accurate and misleading.Version: 18.0.2

Where have some features gone?!It seems some features previously available on a basic subscription have been removed and are only available to those with a Navionics + subscription. Also I know several sailing friends who have paid for Navionics + thinking they had to, to continue using the basic service. Navionics don’t make it clear what is available from which package..Version: 17.0.2

Sacramento Delta Fail!!I have tried for a few of years now to get the routing feature to work on this boating app and an earlier navionics app including emails to tech support and I can say that it has been a big waste of time. The routing feature can load for 45 minutes on a route that is just over 30 miles only to finish with a “too many way points“ message when no way points have been selected. Maybe this app works better on a wide-open body of water with simple routes but here in the Sacramento Delta it is an abject failure. Complete and total failure. Please let people know that your app just does not work for short trips with multiple choices for routes. Period. Otherwise you are wasting people’s valuable time regardless of how cheap the app is. I would love to see an app with 5% of the efficacy of google Maps for the roadways. Is there one?? Anybody?? This app and possibly others just will not route a trip for you. Please don’t waste your time like I have!.Version: 14.3

Partially worksThe map works just fine until you need to track a route and then the tracking stops displaying distance and speed. I tried to resolve with helpdesk but gave up as they wanted a video of my phone whilst using my phone with navionics whilst paddling in a kayak. Probably need two phones and four hands to achieve..Version: 18.0.2

Quite DissapointedSo just downloaded the app and am familiarising myself with it. Overall - not impressed: There seems to be no functionality to store a list of waypoints and then construct a course by selecting waypoints from that list. There seems to be no functionality to type in a lat long set of co-ordinates for a way point - rather you have to drag around the screen until you find them. No 3d view to follow track. No split screen No customisation of the screen. This is pretty basic stuff yet it is all missing. Overall - as I suggest in the title of this review - this is a pretty ‘dumbed down’ navigation app - suggest you do your research before subscribing..Version: 19.1

App keeps crashingThis is an amazing app for navigation except for the past few months it has been unusable do to it crashing. Using it on a iPhone 14 pro.Version: 19.0.2

RubbishI paid for the previous app which I used for many years around Australia. I updated to this useless app which is very confusing and dangerous. This app will auto route across shallow water, do not trust it. Icons are not standardised and misleading. Information on marina services is very inadequate. Even our free 24 hour pink moorings in NSW don’t exist. What an idiot I was for buying this app with a yearly subscription, when I had the old one that I bought outright and still work’s well..Version: 17.0.2

DO NOT UPDATEI’ve had this app and its predecessors since 2011. Paid a ton over the years to buy prior version and before that to buy the US&Canada and Asia&Africa modules. Got a new phone which automatically updated the app and as a result I don’t have access to any of the map data previously purchased. This is not an ethical business practice as company failed to disclose that they designed a product that would become inoperable whenever they decide to come up with a new version. Some idiot with a calculator thinks the practice will improve bottom line—I hope instead former subscribers recognize these guys are thieves and seek alternatives. That’s what I intend to do..Version: 20.0.3

Be version aware!I have the Boating HD version on my iPad and purchased a subscription for it. However, i also have the version for the iPhone which has a lower resolution. I use the same login for all versions (including the chartplotter) and if you’re not aware, Navionics would have you buy 3 subscriptions. The subscription for the HD iPad version does not carry across to the iPhone version! Why not i wonder; perhaps its Navionics way of making as much money out of you as they possibly can. I know they are physically different versions but why won’t Navionics allow the subscription to carry across whatever product/device you use?.Version: 11.1

Beware when you renew subscriptionThe Navionics app continues to be misleading when you try to renew your subscription. I renewed my subscription to US and Canada, but the app continued to display “Subscription Expired” and a button to “USA Charts”, no matter how many times I restarted and re-synched the app. Eventually, out of desperation, I clicked the “USA Charts” button, so I got subscribed to USA as well (which are already included in US and Canada). I really feel that the UI misled me. I emailed Navionics, explaining what happened and asking for a refund on the second purchase, but no reply. Navionics charts are good, but I am so tired with Navionics behavior, their in-app purchases are just misleading, they do not follow Apple’s guidelines, and have been this way for a long time. I did report them to Apple, if you have similar problems do the same..Version: 13.4

Subscription cost almost tripled in priceI have been a long time user of navionics plus which was previously about $35 a year for aus maps. Went to renew my subscription and it is now $89 a year! Forget it Garmin, I will be switching to a competitors maps for that price..Version: 20.0

Why no access to the app?I don’t get it I’ve had Navionics for a few years. Just got new iPad, loaded Navionics and paid up for UK and Holland and it was fine. Just went in and it says trial has expired, subscribe. Went to the various charts and there is a big tick next to UK and Holland, subscription expires in 348 days so why can’t I access the app....? Frustrating, so many apps in App Store, confusing, many say app being discontinued. Maybe time to move to another nav app... Update-App now working after contact with Navionics. All good as it is my go to app for nav..Version: 13.4

Re appHello this is Sean I downloaded this app a few weeks ago, and subsequently bought nz australia map, i took it out to sea, gps was not working offline,,,, i try to download again but it only shows me that i downloaded the free navionics, can you tell me what i should do?.Version: 9.0.4

How is it not better ?80 percent of the time I have to close and re open the app to get it to work. Being that this is the main mean of recreational navigation this should be a lot better in so many ways. Please pick up your game Garmin.Version: 17.1.1

Cant access my subscriptionI have a paid subscription for Navionics but cant access my charts from the app, the App says i have to pay another subscription! This app is a complete waste of time and is now deleted..Version: 19.0.2

Forced to pay subscription after already purchasing the appI bought this app outright years ago specifically with the maps of WA and NZ. Now it’s updated and I can no longer access the maps I paid for without signing up to a subscription. Should be offered some kind of refund or given free access to my original maps that I purchased..Version: 18.1.3

Only records 5 minutesDon’t know what happened since I used it last, but I used to be able to start a track, then turn off phone to save battery until I needed the charts and it would happily save my track. Today I have three 5 minute tracks. I checked app was running and had GPS permission for always on. Very disappointed with whatever has caused this and it isn’t cheap. Don’t get me wrong the charts are good etc. Can I recommend it, sorry not until this is sorted. Tempted to ask for a refund..Version: 17.1.1

HopelessUsed to be great but now…… using an iPhone SE which is about 2 years old. The app keeps crashing especially if using the zoom function. It will do this every minute. I removed the app and re-download it, I’ve restarted my iPhone, I’ve got 50gb free space on the phone. Really poor from something that used to be so reliable. iPad app also acting up but nothing like as bad. Looks like I’ll be using the chart plotter a whole lot more..Version: 18.2.2

Chart update blockedGood app in general however if you subscribe to more than one region and keep the charts after expiry of the subscription the expired charts are blocking any automatic updates! That includes charts from all other valid subscriptions / regions. I first noticed this with on SW release 18.2.2 and reported to Navionics now 3 months later on SW 19.0.2 the issue has not been solved. I wonder if might be Navionics strategy to force you to delete downloaded charts after expiry of the subscription. I’m disappointed by Navionics and have tried AQUAMAP which I can recommend..Version: 19.0.2

DisappointedNot as good as thought. Can I pull out and get a refund please.Version: 18.0.2

No longer reliable for navigation.I’ve used navionics on an iPhone as part of my Nav kit for ages. The requirement of an internet connection to log in now makes it unusable for as I’m often out of range. I also believe this is related to the unexpected quitting and general instability I’ve experienced in use. Basically, unreliable coverage has resulted in an unstable app. Not great in a navigational tool..Version: 18.2.2

Useless!!!Purchased this app a year or so ago not on subscription, moved to a new phone and cannot access the charts any more without subscribing??!!!!! Pretty cheeky really!!!Support page is no help at all, and you cannot directly talk with anyone regarding the Navionics map app!!!.Version: 18.2

This app is a scamI had this app for a year with no issues but once i’d renewed the subscription I found there had actually been no renewal. There is no real customer service to help resolve this other than some general information on their support page, an email I’ve had no response from and a chat bot that doesn’t work..Version: 17.0.2

App won’t open!Downloaded app and used it for 2 weeks on iPhone and it worked fine. Then all of a sudden when trying to open I got the blue Navionics screen for 1 second and then crashed. I am tech savvy and tried everything, deleted app and reloaded, cleared cache on phone, freed up space on phone, rebooted phone all to no avail. Definitely seems like a bug in the app. I contacted customer service via email and got one very unsatisfactory reply. This app is necessary for volunteer work I’m doing but am totally stuck with what seems like no help! ADDENDUM: Navionics responded recognizing the problem and stated they are working on it with urgency. Glad to see the company is responsive..Version: 17.2

Missing IconsI am missing fuel icons on my iPhone. They show up when viewing charts on my iPad, but are completely missing on my iPhone. I am able to search for fuel stations… 🤷‍♂️.Version: 18.1.3

Bait and Switch. On August 4th I made an in-app purchase for $29.99 (plus taxes) totalling $33.59 for US & Canada chart data. I received an email receipt from Apple. I was able to use the app on my iPhone throughout August, September and October. It opened and worked just fine on my iphone. But today, (February 5th) after a few months of not using the app, I was surprised to see when I went to open it that Garmin will not let me use the app and data I have paid for - until / unless I additionally create a Garmin login and provide Garmin with my personal information. I just want to be able to access the app and data I paid $33.59 for. Instead, I am blocked from doing so until / unless I give Garmin additional personal information. That’s not what I purchased or signed up for. Garmin should not be able to prevent my access to this paid in-app purchase..Version: 17.1.1

Purchased subscription lost??Downloaded the app and purchased Australia and NZ charts in mid January. Now the app says I have to subscribe even though in the buy map list it says I have 345 days left. Clicking on the support site link takes me to a site in German? Can’t understand anything. App looked promising but is too flaky. I’ll go back to iS****r..Version: 13.2

Not reliableConstant crashes ! Can’t calculate route ! Uploaded app and maps five times and still won’t work ! Not reliable !!!.Version: 19.1

Big problem with loosing gps and random changes to water level settingsThis was great BUT recently I (and others I’ve talked to) have had the default water level settings randomly change- this is really dangerous. Also using my iPhone 14 pro iOS 16.4.1 it keeps losing the gps position necessitating quitting the app and restarting- really not fit for purpose at the moment. Please fix this soon.Version: 19.0.1

Distracting and unsafeThe inability to lock the map view in the course up or heads up mode is absolutely unacceptable and dangerous. Every time you pan or zoom the map, the map view resets. In order to get a desired map view back, you need to touch a very small icon twice while on a fast moving vessel. This app behavior is extremely distracting, frustrating and unsafe! Furthermore, the map doesn't pan automatically as the vessel moves; you have to pan it manually, which results in the map view being reset repeatedly. I recommend the folks designing this app to try to actually use it on a fast moving vessel as that would help them understand how dysfunctional this app actually is..Version: 19.1

Constantly freaking the screen…Developer acknowledged but did not address any of the bugs..! I was considering buying the subscription and was testing the trail. Unable to route very long trips automatically (e.g. Pittwater to Fiji); it would just not work… Very small trips (less the 50nm) have refresh issues with the map (downloaded) on an iPad Pro with nothing else running and plenty of extra memory. This would be unusable out on the water. Happy to discuss with the developer to trouble shoot..Version: 18.0

Please Fix App IssuesThe Boating App used to be great. Fast reliable and very stable. Recent versions have been terrible - the app force quits on launch nearly 70% of the time. When it does launch the map is often white or the GPS location is completely wrong. I’ve also noticed it causing my iPhone 13 Pro to overheat. When I contacted the support they suggested it was a memory issue but the app still struggles to work properly having closed all other apps and restarted the device. I’ve tried a number of fresh installs of the app but still no good. Please fix these annoying issues they are taking the pleasure out of boating for me..Version: 17.1.1

Latest updateSo with the latest update after end of a yearly subscription we can no longer access the old maps ? Auto renew by default ? What a bunch of greedy buggers. I’ve been a Navionics user and buyer of many charts for many years but now it’s time to leave. This sure is going downhill fast since Ga$min took over. 🪛🫵.Version: 20.0

Missing basic functionalityOK, I acknowledge that at $15 it is cheaper to buy this than a single chart, so there is some value in being able to download, plot a course on, and see a visual representation of my live position versus that plot while en route. I just can’t believe there’s no active guidance to actually sail that course like the most basic handheld provides. Tell me how far to my next turn, what heading I’ll have to steer and for how long, how far I might be from the plotted course. Give me a way to confirm position with bearings to charted objects. None of this seems available even though it has access to my position thru my device’s active GPS. This seems like a total waste for anything beyond basic route planning.Version: 15.4

Who are you to force me disclose my personal infoThe latest update is forcing me to create some account and forcing my consent for collecting information about me. That is disgusting. The app is not working without internet connection so you can only log in when you are at home. UPD Developer's response suggests they irritate the users for the benefit of the users. Annoyed user is exactly what they are trying to achieve. Well done developer..Version: 15.5

Navionics AustraliaIt is a great app but given the subscription amount per year (which now updates automatically) I think is too much. For the constant price of the annual subscription you would be better off to do some homework and purchase a decent chart plotter for your boat. Yes it’s a great app but is it worth the yearly subscription of almost $90….. it’s a big no from me..Version: 20.0.3

Used to be goodUsed to be good, now it’s not worth downloading Without paying , we paid with the old app but they have taken it away , already pay for maps on the fish finder and chart plotter , this addition Subscription is just another money grab.Version: 20.1.2

Import downloaded route?Great to have the app now work on both iPad and iPhone, a very welcome step forward. But has some functionality been removed? If someone sends me a route saved in Navionics with the download route option, I can no longer open it in the app? It does not appear as an option in the share menu! This is a big problem and needs fixing..Version: 13.4

Regularly usedIs there current issues at the moment with this App? 7/9/22. The app opens then closes a short time later unexpectedly. Have been using this app for a very long time no real issues. I’ve lost my saved tracks on a few occasions for unknown reasons. Apart from that I recommended this app (paid version).Version: 18.0.2

IOS updates rendered old app useless without notificationI too am extremely disappointed in app support from Navionics!! The very least the company should have done, since they knew well in advance they were changing from a 32 bit app design to a 64 bit design, was to notify existing (who paid $9.99 for app) customers of the change coming!! Since that was not done, they also missed an opportunity to keep existing customers with a discounted “buy-in” of the new product. For these reasons I will never buy a mother Navionics product be it app or equipment for my 5 million yacht. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! Not gonna happen. Next they will replace current 64 bit app with a 124 bit app, be ready for it..Version: 11.1

For frequent technical issuesFor years the navigation and location has been terrible; constantly cutting in and out. In the last couple of weeks and months the app has started crashing sporadically which has been causing lots of headaches as we navigate around the gulf and discovery islands. Today I can’t even open the app. The app has almost become necessary for so many people including myself. But I’ll be looking for alternatives as this is becoming dangerous and frustrating. Paper charts are looking more affordable as subscription fees increase..Version: 19.1

No longer excellentBoth on phone and iPad this has developed a fault which means that depths are always updated to add the current height of tide to charted depth. Why anyone would want this feature is beyond me; it’s just dangerous, but it will not turn off in the settings, despite repeated attempts. If I am planning where to go at a future date I need the charted depth, not the actual depth now!.Version: 19.0

Good - but could be betterGood for most things, but a couple of suggestions that could improve the usability from my point of view. - when searching markers, can you please provide the option to order the search results (i.e. by name, date, or proximity to location). This would be handy. It doesn’t appear to display them in any particular order at the moment. - the app should let you select a point on the map near to where you want a marker (click blue ?), then be able to edit the coordinates/rename. Currently it only has ‘selected location’ which can’t be edited - so where you click has to be perfect. This leaves no option but using the last/long search which is much slower. - I would love to have the ability to have more depth ranges than 5. Unlimited would be great. Or up to 20? Love this feature..Version: 18.2.2

Error when logging inBoth my brother and I can’t login on our accounts, we both get the same error “connection failed, please check your connection and try later” we’ve been getting it for the last few days. We’ve lost our spots and want to renew our subscription but we can’t logon. Really frustrating.Version: 17.1.1

Fraudulent appFeatures that I already paid for no longer work. Not only do they no longer work, but the app developer now wants me to pay MORE than I previously paid. What a scam! You guys should be ashamed, really pitiful business tactics. Nice way to treat your users. I will never buy anything from your company ever again and I will be sure to tell other boaters my story. App developer claims they have removed redundant maps. Ok, the US map and Canada map could not be any different. Why do I care about Canada if I live in the US? Why are you forcing me to buy both and charge more? This is not a good deal, I care only about one specific area and that’s it. YOUR PRICE IS NOT REASONABLE and I don’t appreciate you removing maps that I already paid for and downloaded. Since I can’t use what I already bought, I want my money refunded..Version: 18.2

I paid for my charts, where are they?I used to swear by navionics as a yacht broker, the app always allowed me to use old charts that I bought. Now they don’t allow you to download the charts that you’ve previously purchased..Version: 20.0.3

Can’t log in (“connection failed”)I can’t even get to start to use the app. I’ve created an account but when I want to log in the app it says “connection failed” and I’m clearly very well connected. Confusing and useless if I can’t even use this app, even though has been highly recommended by my hubby. Would appreciate very much some kind of feedback on this. Cheers.Version: 17.1.1

Seafarer's Warning: Navigational App Safety ConcernsThe initial version of this app was flawless, serving as an exceptional tool for navigation. With my 22 years in the boating industry, particularly in the super yacht domain, I found it to be an excellent backup tool, even aiding in sailing during off-work hours. However, recent issues with logging in and out have plagued not only me but several other users. What was once a reliable and secure navigation aid has now become unreliable. Being locked out without the ability to regain access compromises the safety it once provided. I urge fellow seafarers to exercise caution when relying on this app and to have a backup system in place. My plea to the developers is simple: involve sailors and captains in the app's development to prioritize safety and navigation once more. Let's work together to elevate this app back to its former top position..Version: 20.0.3

Not worth it anymoreWith recent changes and limiting connections to two devices Navionics has goon too far. Won’t be renewing next year if remains the same.Version: 20.0.2

Need to Pay Twice for Same ProductI have a Navionics+ card, but after downloading this App it asks for an additional £26 for the same chart coverage? Clearly I am never going to use the iPhone for navigation, but it would have been fun and useful to plan trips when away from the boat, and then sync then resulting route to the plotter. Dock to dock routing and the other planing advantages are great features, and most useful when planning trips when the chart plotter is off or unavailable. Being required to pay twice for the same coverage leaves a bad taste, I can live without the fun/useful stuff - so will be deleting the App..Version: 14.4

Outdated aapApp no longer works on iphone.Version: 11.1

Dock to dock autorouting does not work.Dock to dock autorouting does not work anymore since the last update. It draws a straight grey line. Only manual route works..Version: 18.0

Navionics Lakes North AppI understand that the support for this app was rendered unusable due to IOS updates and that there are no plans to update or replace. When Navionics decided to market via the Apple Store for IOS products I would have thought the need for updates would have been recognized. So I purchased the App which was fantastic and perfectly suited for my area. When it stopped working I was very disappointed but understood the need for IOS updates and patiently waited. After more than a year I sent and inquiry to Navionics about the status for this App. I was informed that there will be no update to allow this App to work but that other Apps were available, “for purchase”. In reviewing these options I found them not suitable for my Region. I know Navionics has a variety of marine navigation hardware on the market that, for a price, can service my needs nicely. The rub is that I can no longer trust them. I purchased software they offered, then they decided to discontinue support with the option of “purchasing” other Apps. How can I trust them not to terminate support for any of the hardware/software they are marketing after I “purchase” these items. I know Navionics to be a competent provider of Marine Navigation system but can no longer trust their after market support..Version: 10.9.6

Used to be greatWas once a go-to, but recently stability is just no longer there. I’m sure it’s my fault, but then so is my subscription dollars…. Adios!.Version: 20.0.2

Cant open appBeen using Navionics for years and have had no problems until the last 6 months or so. App wont open a lot of the time now. I have to remove the app and reinstall it. Not a problem if in an area of reception, but coming back from Indonesia recently it was useless. Very poor for something that is very expensive for yearly subscription. If it continues on will look elsewhere..Version: 17.1.1

Very disappointingI am so disappointed in Navionic’s support of this app. I’ve been a user for 3 years now and can’t depend on it working. Lots of good features, and when it works its just what I want. But often it loses track of my location or fails to start tracking my location. It’s so bad most of the time that I need to have the app open, then reboot to get tracking started. I have reported the problems, provided details, and even helped by providing logs of the problem. Navionics says they’re going to work on it, but I rarely get any follow up. And the problems don’t go away. I make sure my app and phone (iPhone 14 Pro) are up to date, still exhibiting the same problems for last 2 years. When I first bought the app it was $15, then jumped to $30, going to $50 on renewal. Not me - no way will I pay much (if anything) for this level of customer care and performance. Edit: developer has very nicely asked me to contact them, but as I hope I made clear above, I’ve already been in contact. In fact, I’ve been trying to get them to fix the problem for 2 years now. So frustrated - they noted that it’s difficult working with the 3rd-party GPS function. I mean, jeez, it’s a navigation app. You should have GPS mastered by now. Really hoping you get better at this, but for now, I’m not paying another penny..Version: 19.1

Unable to renewAfter using it for a year I am unable to renew my subscription, always comes up unable to connect… no way to use anymore, all data from the last year will be lost. This costs a lot of money for such a poor end result.Version: 17.2.2

Was once a great appNow we have to pay a subscription..Version: 18.0.2

InfuriatingPotentially a superb app, BUT… 1) constantly changes map orientation: set Heading up or Course up from the map options menu, go back to the map, and the app instantly changes back to North up. 2) force the screen to Heading up, then zoom in or out and the screen changes to North up. 3) zooming out loses too much map detail, making route planning much harder than it could be. Why?!.Version: 18.0.2

No more US Govt NOAA chart viewing!!!Taking away the ability to view/use the Govt NOAA charts is the last straw example of this company’s greed. Many of us use those charts for planning but only buy your subscription Charts for areas we will actually sail in. In my case I buy the Caribbean chart subscription, but still want to look at several US locations so I use the Govt NOAA charts for that. It also looks like your Caribbean Charts subscription has increased from about $8 to $28 per year. That also seems greedy and price gouging, at the very least for us customers who have been loyal and supported Navionics for years. If you don’t decide to give us those Govt NOAA map viewing and reasonable subscription fees back, then its time for many of us to find a new Chart app !!.Version: 13.4

Problems with current softwareMajor Problems with: 1. No current speed information at critical passages. BC , Canada coast. Example Dood Narrows(south of Nanaimo - nothing . One of 3 stations in the area (since Aug 2022) current can run over 7 knots. 2. Times for Tides and Currents use the wrong time zone. Northern BC does not use Alaskan Time! Hasn’t fixed in 4 years 3. To use the app on the water the ability to place the boat on the bottom of the screen (Look Ahead Mode) would be more helpful. Most chart plotters have this built in. Boaters normally do not need to view chart information behind them. AIS will show predictor lines from vessels overtaking you. Harvey.Version: 18.1.2

Still no anchor alarm?!I can’t believe they haven’t put an anchor alarm yet 🙄.Version: 19.0.1

Can’t find Apple Watch UltraGoogle Maps works on my Apple Watch Ultra but sadly I will have to keep pulling my phone out of its safe pocket to quickly check my position. Kris.Version: 20.0.3

Navionics is dead to meThe latest version of this app (v20) renders your expired subscriptions useless. You can no longer download new areas to maps you purchased previously, as you could in v19 and earlier, and there are many different ways for Navionics to delete maps that you previously downloaded, never to get them back without paying a whopping $50 a year to have a basic subscription. This drastic change of terms between versions is unacceptable, with Garmin acting in bad faith. I don’t care how “premium” this app has become. The look and feel hasn’t changed since ny original subscription. There are now several alternative apps that are much cheaper and provide excellent functionally. I have stopped recommending Navionics to my fellow boaters and am encouraging people to try competing apps until Garmin restores my original user agreement. By the way, I left a review about this back in October. I was actually the first reviewer to warn users not to update, but that review somehow disappeared. 🤔.Version: 20.0.3

Navionics not as good as beforeWe have been using Navionics for a few years and loved it. The charts and nav functions worked great while cruising SE Asia, Japan, Alaska, and even a run from Annapolis to the BVI. But a while ago we got the notice we needed to upgrade to Boating. As we had such great luck with Navionics we paid our fee and did so. I am regretting it. The new version has GPS issues and often corrects dropping velocity and heading. The new programmer obviously knows little about GPS or cruising. I believe his Kalmen filter doesn’t load properly and when it resets it all goes to zero. I will be looking for another program. Note we have run this side by side on three devices. They all have the same problem but do not do it at the same time so I am making the assumption about the filter..Version: 14.5

DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS APPThis new Navionics App withdraws a significant amount of functionality compared with the previous App. For example, auto routing has been removed, now available only with a current subscription. More importantly, and a deal breaker for me, when plotting a route manually in this new App you can’t insert an intermediate waypoint between two existing waypoints. This makes the new App almost useless for passage planning. There are many other issues and, in every way possible, this new App seems to be worse than the previous one that Navionics has now effectively terminated. I would recommend that users DO NOT update to this new App until they have no choice. Unfortunately, when we all ultimately buy a new iPad or iPhone, we will be forced into this new App and either lose significant functionality or be forced to buy an expensive, annual subscription. I’ve raised my concerns with Navionics Support, and they’ve just flicked me off. They don’t care and just want to gouge more from their customers. Shame on you Navionics..Version: 13.2

NavionicsI paid $50 for Navionics HD (Canada and US) in 2013. I also paid for a one year subscription. Now, we find out if the subscription is not renewed, the program simply stops working with no charts being visible. This is unacceptable. I used Navionics for years with no problems but now Garmin owns it, they feel they have the right to just take away something I paid for. I request the boating community writes to Navionics to voice their discontent with this new policy. I am planning on raising this subject on numerous boating websites. There is going to be a huge number of very ticked off yachties when the word gets out. Some times, app developers shoot themselves in the foot. Please, put things back the way they were and stop taking away something I have bought and paid for. I plan to approach Apple and check with legal advice to see if this is even legal. You can’t just take this away from me. Cheers John Vye.Version: 20.0

Very good appUpdate: Everything I paid for back in the day is now gone and now they want $100 per year for access to maps. Just delete it! Especially when you can get the permanent Linz marine maps for $5!!! ————- My review back in 2015: This is a fun, easy to use charting app. Works very quickly on iPhone 6. Sonar charts have incredible detail. Track recording works very sweetly, though does chew battery. Neat bits like tide and current prediction at various places, and light beacon descriptions, plus ownership of moorings. All nicely presented and mostly intuitive (but note that 'route' is for planning a new route, not recording your current one!) Cons: You have to buy extras to bring out more advanced functionality. Not exactly cheap, though much cheaper than my boat and same price as a single paper chart..Version: 20.1.2
