KORG Gadget 3 for Negative User Reviews

😳😳😳😳.Version: 4.6.21

Randomising saved files. It was a 5 star app until the update randomised saved projects. Why not leave them in chronological order. Whose idea was this and why did the tech heads agree with it? Please fix it and I'll give it my high five..Version: 2.0.0

Save function too broken to make this worth itSeriously the most aggravating app I’ve ever used, don’t get me wrong the workflow and sound is amazing, and it would be quite possibly my favourite app, if it ever saved anything, I’ve stopped using this after purchasing a bunch of the add on synths as it simply will not save my files, I’m sick and tired of spending 8 hours working on great new music, hitting save, having it tell me the save is completed, only to come back the next day and find NOTHING was saved, and that’s practically every time I use it, I’m tired of losing my work and until this is addressed I refuse to waste anymore time at all, and it’s not my device, I’m running this on a brand new iPad Pro..Version: 3.5.2

Sound dropping outDisappointed that V2 keeps having sound dropouts. Hopefully this glitch will be fixed quickly... sick of re-booting. Come on Korg!.Version: 4.0.0

MAC + IPad version pricingGadget is great for quickly developing song ideas, and even writing complete songs, especially, if you later export them to Ableton, and finalize with EQ, compression, etc. The problem I have with Kong and Gadget has to do with pricing, and Korg’s understanding of the customer (I have both the Mac and iPad versions of Gadget, and I also own all the individual Korg instrument plugins on the Mac and IPad). On the Mac, you get all the plugins, and you can use them in any DAW. That is absolutely great - thank you! On the iPad, you don’t get all the plugins, and lots of them are priced as if they’re very special. Korg has a user ID which only knows about my ownership of the Mac version of Gadget, not the individual plugins, and not the iPad versions. The upgrade to Gadget2 on Mac has a special price for me of $100, which gives me nothing new, and I need to spend another $100 on the iPad, to get the plugins that I’m already using on the Mac. Korg can charge whatever they want, but as somebody who likes and owns a lot of Korg products, I find the business and customer side of Korg far behind the technical side. In my opinion, they should know what I own, and make it easy and meaningful for me to upgrade everything, so that I can use any platform, not nickel and dime me in different ways, and ultimately not get another penny from me..Version: 4.5.1

Wonderful sounds but infuriating lack of functionalityThere is no doubting the incredible sounds and beats you can make with this app. However when I can't do the most simple thing such as placing the play curser where I want to so I don't have to always start at the top of each scene there is a big problem. It has wasted so much time for me. Also the copy function has a lot to be desired. You can select and copy any notes but you can't place the curser where you want it and then paste what you copied. Frustrating lack of thought to these simple tasks but over all I do love what is possible with this app..Version: 1.3.1

Metronome volume control essentialPlease put a volume control on the metronome ....please, please, please! Stops me using this wonderful app. I know there are workarounds but it is super annoying after all these years and show developers just not listening as so many people have asked for this. So so many people would like this request and i just can’t believe that the developers STILL do not listen..Version: 4.6.32

WARNING! Does not do what the manual says it will do!The manual states that an external midi instrument can be synchronized with the iPad when “Int”. However, an external midi instrument cannot be synchronized with the internal clock of this app. The wording in this section seems to be worded very awkwardly on purpose. Additionally, the settings to determine if this core feature of midi will work for you are not adjustable in the free version. When you try to adjust them you are told to upgrade to be able to “output midi data”. They do not tell you that half of the essential midi data (clock data) will not be there. I am demanding my $ back and feel a little ripped off. It would be like telling someone a car has cruise control but it is actually just a string connected to the gas pedal..Version: 4.6.6

Only import standard midi file?I’m NOT going to purchase any additional packs for Gadget until I can import WAV files. There’s only an option to import standard midi files. I can SEE the wav files in my Dropbox folder, but they are greyed out! I import the midi files, then of course they only present themselves in the default piano. I have Gadget on my iPhone and iPad, and really wish this could be easier. Please!!!!.Version: 3.5.2

Serious Lagging Issues. On my Ipad 3 anyway, can't seem to handle the load, my only option for smooth playback is to export the session, other than that, very slick..Version: 1.1.2

Timeline!?!This may sound odd, but, I agree with Sehr Kosmik - when every other sequencer I’ve used to date (about 6 in total) has a timeline left to right, trying to get my head around top to bottom is really hard; it’s like trying to read right to left, it’s sort of do-able but not something you would chose to do. Can the option of having the ‘standard’ left to right timeline be incorporated at all? It would make such a difference..Version: 3.6.0

CrashesAm on ( and it will not connect via audiobuss to Cubasis. Open Audiobuss select Korg Gadgets and crash..Version: 1.0.4

Could be great but...Having used gadget for a few years now I have reached a few conclusions. It has excellent sound.. quality instruments.. although these are fairly limited. and is great for getting the initial loops going.. it’s also very stable. however it is not a daw.. it is a fairly comprehensive groovebox imho. Song construction is a nightmare as the track count increases and one wants more complex song structures. For me it’s just not logical without a linear option to structure. As time goes on the limitations start to wear on you a bit. The stacking of the fx and lack of auxes on the channel strips is too limiting. Lack of tempo sync on the phaser flangers etc.. is crazy. The bottom line is it’s a good app but it’s really too limited in the realms of sound editing to be called a daw. It’s a real battery hog as well. Maybe the next update will improve gadget to a more professional level as it is a bit toy like at times..Version: 4.5.3

Great, but need amp sim updateThis app is great! But the amp sims for bass and guitar could use an update/overhaul they sound dated. But all the synths sounds are great!.Version: 4.6.22

KorgGadget 2 brings IOS Troubles.Hello I just updated to korg gadget 2 from gadget 1 and I would’ve loved to leave a positive review but your update is causing migraines here’s my frustration with what you guys call a update the midi portion right I use BeatMaker 3 and gadget together or used to because now for whatever reason I’m not sure if this was on purpose or system malfunction but gadget no longer allows me to use it coupled with beat maker 3 with my midi control I wished Korg Gadget would listen to its consumer base about having auv3 abilities but it doesn’t even have iaa abilities anymore this disheartening what ever you guys broke in this version 2 I hope you fix it soon. Signed a unhappy customer..Version: 4.0.0

Last update killed itThe app no longer shows a play button in the controls at the bottom below the instrument. Just a greyed out “eternal sync” neither will it play from the project menu. This has been going downhill since Gadget 2 launched. Also erased saved projects. It’s tie to Dropbox only is annoying. Guess I’ll be deleting this once useful app..Version: 4.6.32

DisappointedAs a professional recording studio owner, I am absolutely disappointed after purchasing this product. It is laggy beyond believe on an iPad Air and the latency does not change even after adjusting the preferences. My iPad has more than this App on it and nothing is laggy. I owned over 5 different hardware synths from Korg over the last years and they all worked fine. I would like my money back!.Version: 1.2.4

Over rated. This app is an expensive toy. Does not support external midi control via older keyboards which is somewhat dis-appointing. You can however control externally if your willing to spring for Korgs own midi-controller keys. Which I am not willing to for another ‘toy’..Version: 4.0.3

Audio in brokenI really thought I could comfortably use audio in monitor for my external synths with Taipei gadget. Problem is when I record enable Zurich gadget, and after I open taipei to edit the midi, record enable gets disengaged - every single time I have to manually engage record again and again as I do my work with taipei - this is such a chore that I stopped using Korg gadget with external sources. It feels like a minor fix could resolve such a major pain but this problem has been present forever, please Korg fix this do i can use Gadget.Version: 4.5.3

Favorite pre set.Is there a way to have favorite pre sets that you can quickly change between?.Version: 4.0.0

Excuse me ?Listen I don’t know what you have going on at your company as of lately but as someone who has been a loyal consumer of your products for years hardware and software, I’m genuinely tired of you insulting us as customers with stupid purposed business tactics cool we get you want to make money but you can also do that with out ruining your own reputation with loyal customers. The fact I paid 54.99 for this app only to not be able to have a play button anymore. How do you leave that out ? Seriously what are you doing over there. You slap people in the face with the wave state mk2 release which has NO difference…okay I got over that but this is literally my last straw as a paying customer. As of today I will never buy anything from you ever again in fact I’m probably going to sell everything I have with your name on it. This is a disgusting business practice goodbye sad to see such a great legacy be ruined by greedy idiots..Version: 6.0.0

Never worksEver since I spent money on some gadgets and installed monopoly, my app always glitches and doesn’t load any gadgets or make any sound..Version: 4.6.16

MixedI love the sounds of your gadgets, very Korg high quality I am more a BeatMaker kinda producer and I find the work flow very robotic. I guess for the gadget concept it is how it is but as a BeatMaker it’s kinda weak in those areas. I wish i had different options for putting things down Maybe make it more sample friendly on the grid.Version: 4.5.3

NewNew to music apps , this tends to crash if I get to busy. Could be I just ain't driving it right !! But there's a shipload of sound @ less than a finger tap away . I m digging that bit.Version: 2.9.0

Needs some basic functions addedCool app and fun to use, but it could really benefit from the following: 1) Allowing a playback cursor. It’s really annoying that when you’re trying to hear just a few bars of a gadget in relation to the whole scene that you have to play the scene from the beginning. You can move the start/end cursors at the top, but those only apply to the gadget you’ve opened, meaning it will play just the selected bars of the gadget while the rest of the scene plays in entirety. As far as I can tell there’s no option otherwise. This is critical if you’re trying to layer gadgets and work out harmonies. 2) Please allow a traditional DAW timeline view where the gadgets are horizontal and stacked! Having the option to view this way would greatly open up the possibilities of using this as a go-to DAW. I get that it wasn’t designed that way with the individual edit options for each scene, but I think it would help workflow for more linear minded people like myself. 3) Please move the ‘Velocity’ banner to a different place instead of at the bottom of the piano roll. I constantly hit it by accident when trying to edit the roll, and it opens up that huge window you have to swipe out of..Version: 4.5.3

Update:2024 Gadget v3Update Jan 2024: Wow. This doesn’t deserve to be called a v3. Nobody wants an electric guitar simulator. The Sydney looper time stretch algorithm sounds awful. The first version of Ableton Live from 20+ years ago sounded better than this. No new fx added to the modules or the mixer. No sequencer improvements. This is a version 2.5 at best. One star added for actually not abandoning Gadget. Update 2023: Gadget 3? Any new modules? Hello? Sound packs are no fun. Sad. Korg abandonware. Update: a General MIDI pack? Disappointing. Dear Korg, Please add some new modules (software Volcas maybe?). Stop with the sound packs from module pro. Gadget is really a 5-star app, but I’m hoping this will get your attention that it needs a refresh and don’t abandon it like some of your other apps. Thanks..Version: 6.0.0

Good But Not GreatUnless you have a good music background, this is really not worth the money. The interface is clunky. There is no 'undo' button. There doesn't appear to be any preset rhythm options. It's OK fun to play with, however, Garage Band offers quicker and easier results..Version: 1.2.2

For crying out loud implement a Midi-out Gadget already!Great app. Zero responsiveness from Korg regarding the myriad of forum-requests for the ability to control external gear and/or other apps from within Gadget. The addition of the this functionality would be of great use for reasons too obvious to list here, which reasons having already been exhaustively discussed in online forums. Without having quantitative evidence yet having followed closely any new developments (there were none) up to 2017, peak clamoring for this feature seems to have been flagged as of about a year ago but i suspect this was not due to a loss of interest but due instead to 1) non-responsiveness from Korg as far as delivering - that is, actually implementing this widely requested feature and 2) sheer frustration at Korg’s lack of interest in merely confirming or denying the existence of any plans to implement the feature. So users are stuck with inelegant work-arounds for what would surely be a substantial improvement to such a great app..Version: 3.7.2

Needs landscape mode next updateThe title for this is pretty much my main gripe. Midi clock in/out would be a massive improvement too. iOS music is becoming all about intergration with other software. Producing 'In the box' is great with Gadget, but the ability to have the 'box' do it's thing in conjunction with the other amazing ios music tools available is something we're all keeping our fingers crossed for.Version: 1.0.2

Can't change presetsJust purchased and installed, only to discover that there seems to be a bug in many of the browsers that is a major downer. For example, in "Glasgow", can only choose one preset: "Strings". In Amsterdam, can't change the sample assigned to pads. Bummer..Version: 4.6.2

Another forced useless sequencerMake the app for musicians and not noobs please. Korgs apps are always the most promising and the most difficult to use it is so sad because all the problems are obvious conscious decisions by the developer. Like midi support, they don't let you do certain things because it would make sense! And I find the exclusion of obvious features and never adding them after all these years is so insulting to the user. Dear devs of this software and korg execs, I am onto you, and you don’t get any of my respect..Version: 4.1.0

Could be a perfect tool for creating. There is a problem though, the lack of midi clock output. Taipei is great but trying to sync some outboard Roland drum machines say, involves a convoluted routing process to generate midi clock. Gadget presents itself as a quick and easy way to get down ideas but is hobbled by a glaring lack of some necessary features to take it to a pro level. Korg’s Plugkey only features midi in, so on release of Taipei it proves useless if you want synch and the ability to sequence external gear. Gadget could have been an MPC killer, with the right implementation of a controller that you dock with your iPad. It’s a shame but I’m going to have to move on to other software..Version: 4.1.0

Zoom!!!I am 1 starring this app for 1 reason. Zoom control. It is an incredibly important tool of any note editing piano roll and it is almost impossible to control on this app! It's so frustratingly bad that I don't use the app at all any more. I am amazed how people are getting by with it as is. Currently it has about a 5mm area in which you need to pinch within to zoom, for anyone with adult size fingers this is a difficult challenge, and if you miss the area by 1mm you end up drawing notes or deleting them. Please this should be an easy thing to fix and will change this 1 star to a 5 star..Version: 1.1.2

Not PerfectTracks disappeared in some of my songs ! Retitling has been removed, why? Importing wavs into Bilbao fails and crashes, frustrating! Imported samples are no longer than 5 seconds which makes the workflow tedious. Caustic 3.0 is better in so many ways and is cheaper. Too many chip sound gadgets and redundant. Please add append sequence feature like on Ensoniq EPS ! Please make colors customizable, thx for adding fx on mixer channels..Version: 4.5.0

Cash cowCharging for iPad and iPhone versions separately, plus then double dipping for all extra gadgets charged twice, is total BS, never mind that every new gadget is an extra charge. I just bought moog model 15 and it works on both iPad and iPhone, no double dipping and it's quality, not crap like gadget. Gadget is a money pit that's nothing but a toy..Version: 3.5.2

No Files support?I decided to make the switch from GarageBand and have been really enjoying tinkering with everything. Had no issues adjusting to it, even with the different way you lay a track opposed to GarageBand if anything in finding it more easier. The price I have no problem with, as similar software on a PC would cost way more anyway. But the one big flaw for me is no files support! I decided to master one of my tracks using another app but I couldn't just export to files or open it in the other app like I would in GarageBand. Using all the export options you have available just doesn't work for me. Uploading to Dropbox just takes longer. Please can you update to add this inline with pretty much all other apps that have export options? Lastly I did say I had no issue with the price but I will say I was a little let down by the small amount of presets on some gadgets that cost half as much as the app itself. Everything you get with GarageBand is free in comparison. Until Files support is implemented I can't give this more than 3 stars..Version: 4.5.3

Crash time againGreat update with the AU functionality, but my first foray back into creating a track in Gadget itself, and it’s crash time again. New track, saved, added some drum fills, then it froze up when trying to save the drum fills, edits lost. This is why I stopped using v1, and v2, and now….v3. Back to AUM then..Version: 6.0.1
