✓ ProblemsThe game is great and still very addictive. The problems I have that could be changed is remove friends that haven't played the game for a certain period of time. Also the search for a particular type could be better. (Age/country category) It's far to random and again once they've played they are on the system. Some you may see may not have played for over 6 months so pointless swiping right!! Smart Match works well tho 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Also I'm trying to rematch a player but it says they are maxed out so I have to wait. I'm forever trying to rematch them but always says the say. ✓ Problem!This is an add on to a review written previously. Take away 2 stars!! I could no longer play Word with Friends on my old iPad due to the game not being supported on that device. I reopened in my newer iPad and now only get to play one game each time before it closes down! To keep playing I have to shut down the iPad and restart the device each time. Won’t be playing long if they don’t fix this problem! Up to now I have enjoyed the game. Previous review I've been playing Words with Friends for quite a while now, and one thing I have noticed in recent times, is that more and more words apparently Not Valid are being accepted in the game, but whenever I try to get a Not Valid word accepted the word is not accepted. It just seems so unfair that are players are able to do this. Makes it harder for those players who try to play the game fairly. I've still given the game 4 stars as I quite enjoy the game, even though it doesn't seem to be a level playing field anymore..Version: 13.0.7
✓ QuestionableI miss the 'number of games waiting to be played' that was shown on the app 'face'. Now when I look at my WWFRIENDS app, I do not know if I have any games waiting to be played. Also regarding the chatting with friends- I do not like the way it sits 'open' once you have written your chat. I find that annoying. I like all the stats about plays etc. New review: I don’t like the display of the latest update. The app is now hard to read because the display is too large & pale. Not happy. ✓ More scammersI am also getting bombarded by scammers, in the last 4 weeks I must have had 5 or 6. I completely agree with ‘not that gullibles’ profile of them, I had one that said he was a scriptwriter in California, his English was that poor it was laughable. They are very easy to spot and I just report them and delete them, however I have noticed that some of them have not been kicked off the game. On another note over the last few months I have had a lot of problems with the messaging part of the game. I can be playing against friends (real ones) and the messaging just stops working. ✓ Spoiled by fluff and stuff but fun to play if you pay for it to avoid the insufferable adverts.Almost totally worth it. As a LONG time pay to use - user, I play a lot of my friends regularly... but when I see the INCREDIBLE amount of ads you are bombarded with (if you don’t own it like me). If I didn’t already own it from when it was cheaper... I would not pay that much for it because even though I’m a paying user I STILL get provided an option to watch adverts to get currency. I hate the animations of stupid stuff and journeys and other meaningless achievements of “playing JXCQZ” I mean... who cares. Just let me destroy my opponent friends in a fair game of scrabble. Also. Get an option for switching off the optional extra coin power move things. They screw over the person without them. Without currency or without purchasing currency with real money. ✓ Words with Family and FriendsThis is a great App on it's own merit. What I really love about words with friends is that it's a way to keep in touch with friends and family who are far away. It's a way of checking in with my nieces and nephew who otherwise I might only see on Holidays. I also like that you are able to send messages back and forth if you wish, during play "nice game!" A pat on the back is always appreciated! I like that you don't have to commit to an entire game at one sitting. I have 5-10 games going with different people at the same time. Some days I only play one word per game. And if I'm particularly busy I don't play at all. Know this, you will always have something to do when you have a moment and you will be making a connection with someone you care about at the same time. Win/win..Version: 5.62

✓ Please get rid of the annoying suggestionsIt’s a trivial thing but it annoys me that when I’m trying out a word, if I pause to think about it the “play” at the bottom flashes to suggest that I play that word. I don’t need this function, and equally I don’t need the radar function to flash up after a while saying that it can tell me where to play, so please could you get rid of that too. Otherwise a good game, but don’t overcomplicate and spoil the fun of it with suggestions. ✓ Words!! why the unnecessary ban?Been on this game for years but went off for sometime and started playing again just a month ago and after few days of playing, I got banned! I don’t chat no one but they keep coming to my dm pestering me. Same chat pattern with questioning and demands. I once caught one fraud guy in the net and told him point blank to stop that act cos it’s spoiling the fun of the game as they kinda concentrate more on the chat than the game. This imposter went mute and not playing so I decided to block him n surprisingly, I couldn’t see his account again(meaning he rather blocked me first). Just after some few minutes, I couldn’t access my account and I had a pop up message that my account has rather been BANNED. It’s will be a big shame if I got blocked cos that imposter might have quickly reported first with Zynga not doing any investigations or even checking our communication. ✓ Spoilt by scammersI have played this game for ages as it’s easy to pick up and put down, but as other reviewers have pointed out, it is now being used by scammers. If you are a woman beware of “invitations” from men whose profile says they are from the US but are playing the English version. They will only have been playing for a short time. They will try to engage you in conversation, be ridiculously interested in your life and try to get you to chat on another platform like WhatsApp. Eventually they will start asking you to send phone cards or even money. Usually they have a sob story that involves tragedy and dead spouses. As soon as I get rid of one I get another. I wish the makers of this game would do something to stop this as it’s ruining one of my favourite apps..Version: 11.62.1
✓ The Devil’s AdvocateContrary to pretty much every recent review of this app, I like the new little features. I love collecting powerups. Me and my opponents openly use them and now see them as part of the game. I love collecting tile skins, and it’s fun to see me and my opponents mix and match the colors we’ve collected. I really don’t mind the event collectibles. Or the chests. Especially since they give me goals to strive toward as I play and reward me when I complete them. I’m a lot happier now that the company stopped trying to force us to switch to Words with Friends 2, which I avoid like the plague. If it isn’t broken, don’t try to fix it and force that fix on us. Also glad that the whole ad issue seemed to be resolved and I don’t have ads in my paid version. If I had any gripes, it would be that they are incredibly stingy with coins (you get 3 max in your daily gift while things in the store can cost like, 100). And that once you complete all solo challenges you have to wait for the next set. If I have a daily goal that needs me to win a solo challenge, I can’t get it since I can’t replay them. I’d like that to change. But anyway, I felt compelled to write this review after seeing nothing but hate for the new features. I know a lot of people that like the features, but I guess you’re more compelled to write a review if you have a complaint, right?.Version: 12.16.1
✓ Educational and great funI enjoy playing, it's overtaken 'Peak' as my favourite game. The adverts are a pain but then, that's why it's free. I have an extensive vocabulary but I make silly mistakes with spelling. Playing this has really sharpened up my spelling. It's like Scrabble although the words accepted aren't always in my Collins Dictionary. BRILLIANT FEATURES *A green box with a lightening strike appears if the word will work. *It shows the number of points. *A tap at the bottom brings all the letters down. *You can try lots of combinations to get the higher score. *If the word does't work it shows an exclamation mark in a red box. (This is when playing on my iPhone 6. If I play on my iPad this feature doesn't work properly; very frustrating). *You can have a chat with your opponent. *You can access info on the number of games you've had against each opponent, who's won the most, average scores etc. Disappointingly, after my 10 weeks of playing with no problems, it has started crashing. The screen goes black and I have to come out and go back on to continue the game. If you're thinking of playing, I'd say try it, it's free. If I could pay for it with no adverts I would. ✓ CoolThis is a berry good app which teaches words. When you put some random letters that you think could make a word it will say I it is a valid word. The problem with it, is that there are way too many adds. I’m fine with watching lots of adds when an app gives you more coins or gold bars or whatever their type of games money’ is. But this app just has an add almost every time you make a word and play it. A cool thing about this app though, is that it has power ups. You can swap out your letters without loosing a turn, or you can see what word you could of made. You can also see all the areas you can put words in. And finally, you can have the app illuminate different boxes and the letter tiles that make a word if your stuck. This is an ok game, but please try and take out some of the adds. Throw of letters appears to not be random...all vowels or all consonants, or all consonants with no blends is frequent occurrence... Sometimes the promised 50 coins for completing challenge goal doesn’t register Sometimes Word Game presents a blank screen for a day or so...player can’t earn swap coins toward weekly goal. There might be too many U’s and V’s in the game because More often than not, I am left with them for the last few plays. The Dictionary of allowed words crack me up. So many words are Celtic, Old Scottish, Hebrew, meanings from an antiquities list I think, while many commonly used words today are not allowed. ✓ Update to dictionaryI love playing words but the new update to the dictionary uses predictive text and I am forever re writing what I have put in. Get rid of the predictive text. Since you added adverts that have to run for the whole advert, it takes too long to play the games I like to play. I realise you have to get the advertising and I will watch them if I am interested in what they are saying but if it has nothing to do with what I need, I put the iPad down until it is finished and go and do something else until it is finished so you have achieved nothing. ✓ The solo challenge feels like, well, just like work.I’ve been committed to my relationships I have built over the years against my fellow competitors, though sometimes I randomly play sone one else. All in all it’s a great set up. They did change the solo challenge that lasts 6 days. I have played this rather seldomly since the change ….it is less giving of prizes. This reward is probably statistically decided but on a human note it’s too much work to get the rewards. As such I take a star off. Their standard of play is that of a 6 year old. After a few exchanges you realise they are scammer. One actually admitted to scamming people out of money. ✓ Help.I bought a brand new phone and now the game won’t open. How do I get it to work without wiping out all of my existing games, that is, if it hasn’t caused me to time-out on all of them already? ✓ Brain stimulating game!Years ago I went to nursing school and led the class in the Pre-board test out of my entire class. After working as an RN I suffered a brain injury from “lack of oxygen”. After having surgery on my painful varicose veins. It was caused by a series of events that began with pain leading to a dose of Morphine, which can suppress the drive to breath. It made me extremely nauseous , so my nurse gave me an anti-nausea medication in my IV, . The combination of drugs set up a situation that resulted in depressing the drive to breathe. Then the hospital was short of nurses and “floated a nurse from the psychiatric floor to the surgical floor. She would come into the room and look at me ,charting “patient sleeping soundly, not checking to see if I was getting enough oxygen. Meanwhile an aide had gotten me up to the bathroom, taken my oxygen off and failed to put it back on. My lack of oxygen caused the injury to my brain, so my memory is poor!.Version: 16.61.1

On going in to the dictionary it comes up with 'this is an acceptable Words-with-Friends word. Sorry there is no definition at this time'. When other dictionaries are checked the word is found to be non-existent. This, to me, implies that at some stage someone has accepted this combination of letters without challenging it as a legitimate word. Surely these words would be better removed from the game's lexicon so that only words appearing in the Oxford English and Webster's dictionaries are valid. ✓ No way to close some adverts!Love playing this, have done for a few years. Just had a small “Ziffit” advert covering my letters, whether I held the iPad landscape or portrait. Had to close the app and reopen. Hope this isn’t going to start happening a lot! Update: Adverts are getting ridiculous now. After playing a word, an advert for a product appears and has multiple screens now that you have to partially watch until an arrow or X appears for you to be able to close it - but that just takes you to the next part of the advert, then the next, and then the last part! Just sitting waiting for arrows and exes! And tricking us by putting them different places on the screen. Come on WWF! These adverts are putting me off and I might move onto some other word game if this carries on. I refuse to pay for no adverts because almost everything is asking you to pay for no ads now. ✓ WORDSWe have been playing Words with Friends for a long time now and we evidently enjoy the play or we wouldn’t waste quite so much time at the app. We do find that the WORDS DICTIONARY contains words that do not appear in the other dictionaries and that the WORD DICTIONARY doesn’t contain some actual words that do appear in the WEBSTER DICTIONARY, for example. Even if a word is recognized as a word, it should not be allowed in play if it has no meaning. Fact is, it shouldn’t be recognized as a word at all. It is only a group of letters that no one can pronounce and that fits into a space. Scrabble rules should be more of a guideline perhaps. Updates have cluttered the app with a bunch of meaningless activity and worthless prizes. I know, its all for fun but all the extra stuff just makes the app less convenient to navigate. Regardless, we engage the Solo Challenge and find it quick and challenging but the distribution of letters sometimes stinks and the computer persons we play against surely come up with a lot of trees and vines and bugs and stuff from millions of years ago. Maybe they are in the dictionary but, if they aren’t, even the WordMasters shouldn’t be allowed to play them..Version: 17.40.1

The rules states no proper nouns or abbreviations, yet the game accepts many of each; There are ridiculous examples used in an attempt to demonstrate the use of many words; Many non-words are accepted as a “valid word with no definition”. Not many appear in Websters Dictionary; Some words in Websters Dictionary are not accepted; The introduction of rewards might appeal to some people but certainly not to me. I use the American and English versions- but why is there no dictionary in the English version? The only dislike is that the game allows improper words, such as abbreviations. ✓ Infiltrated by scammers 😳Over the past few months I've been challenged by new players (male)around a dozen so far . Profile reads ... they are recent to the game ... US residents but play with UK dictionary.. they start chatting and it's the same pattern. Widowed, wife died tragically .. cancer , child birth, car crash ... left with a child or children. Working in the oil industry and usually abroad . Or a medic working in the Middle East on a peace mission. Ask about my marital status , kids, employment , religion, favourite colour, food ... it's like a questionnaire. Declare they are God fearing. Call you "dear" . English is a little dodgy. Then they want to chat off the game despite the fact you tell them you are married . Invitation to exchange email, google hangouts or viber ... er no thanks ! I've been asked for iPhone gift cards twice and if I'd purchase a mobile phone for someone's daughter ?because apparently when you work on an oil rig you can't access your online banking ! ✓ Word. Game reviewI like the word game slot . I wish the pay amount was less when your striving to swap letter. There is one big problem. It seems that many of the men on here are scammers . I have encounters about 5 of them . This scam is on the Nigerian scam which these black men impersonate white men who look like business men and start off telling you how beautiful they are . Then it escalates to talking w u everyday morning and night ! They act like they like you but In Reality they want you to invest your money which I found out is the Nigerian scam . Also when I thought something was wrong I went to a physic and yes she said I was scammed by these men. Then I went to the local police and they agreed it’s the scam ,! So can you possibly prevent these men from coming on this site because they are ruining our lives? They have American names and have 3to 4 digits after their name . ✓ New Bells and Rolling suggestion at bottom of screen!I have been playing WWF for many years. Please, take this rolling suggestion of which game I should play next, away! It is so very annoying! I am capable of picking the next game to play since I prefer to pick my own order. Currently I have about 56 games going, so I believe I can make that decision myself. Also, this latest update slows down my rhythm, having to wait until the opponents words displays slowly, one letter at a time, and only then can I see my available letters. When I’m playing back and forth , live with my opponent, it’s distracting to have to wait. Please give us the option to do away with the suggested next player. Now you’ve added all the extra bells when forming a word Omg, the noise is distracting, slows the game down and is redundant, we already had the thing that acknowledged an acceptable word! Then all the extra steps to get to the dang rewards. We don’t need all the new flashy bells and whistles. With all the extra time it takes now, just waiting for the bells to stop, I’ll have to cut back on the number of games I play. ✓ Great game but has too many adsI am loving this game and I recommend it to everyone but the only thing I would say is it has too many ads. You can skip them after about three seconds but it’s very annoying and to pay to get them to go away is way too much and it just isn’t worth it. I would also like to be able to take away friends from my friends list because when I play with random people they seem to automatically go into my friends list and I would like to save that list for my actual friends only. ✓ Really great game - but one issueThis game is REALLY GOOD, apart from one thing: this could just be my divice, but there is one add in the games that takes FOR EVER to load: in fact I have never actually seen the add it just displays the loading sign. I have to close the game, stop it from running in the background and then turn the game back on. Could a developer fix this please and give me a response? ✓ Peculiar problem since last update on 6 Jan 2018. Same problem occurring after update on 22 Jan 18Problem reported earlier is back as below :- When you have formed the word to send and you check the points won, it is correct but when you click the Dictionary to check the definition, the tiles shown are certainly not as those sent and there is no definition or pronunciation possible as the tiles shown are totally random. I wish there was a way I could flag up to people who are using it as a potential dating site that I am not interested before they start their inane chats. Some people put it as their name (no chat)but I haven’t worked out how to change my name. Also I am happy to chat to people who are interested in real conversation so don’t want to put them off. I also haven’t worked out what all these pages I am supposed to earn are or how the point system works. For example, is my monthly score how many points I totalled in each game I played? ✓ Invalid Words being playedWithin the last 2-3 weeks, it’s come to my attention that invalid words by “Words With Friends” own definition, are being played. It doesn’t matter the version of game, or operating system. Examples are: squit, tov, je , and so many others. I’m to the point I’m tired of playing. It was outrageous when an opponent played JE, and I then tired to play JE. Mine was not accepted, though hers was. I thought perhaps it was the older version(s) I was playing (I have several devices), so I updated one device to the latest version and nope. Same thing. Opponents playing invalid words, but I can’t do the same. So now not only am I losing because of this bug, but now that particular device is on the latest horrible version of a game that looks like it was written for a child. All the various annoying pop ups during the game, essentially cheat power ups, and invalid words is driving me from the game. I’m over it!.Version: 12.36.1

And some run for 30 seconds and you have to go through up to 3 processes to stop the ad. playing. How dare you. ✓ More bugs and so expensiveI love Words and have used it for years with several friends. I bought the original ad-free version, and it was great. Then the game was bought by Zynga, and the ad-free version started to crash, stopping me from opening new games, and eventually I removed it and reinstalled. I then found that the only way to remove ads was to pay £9.99 per month, many times the cost of the old ad-free version, and almost with each update a new bug. With the latest, on an iPad Pro, the game now freezes periodically, after a move, and the only solution is to turn the iPad off and on again. Had to do that more than 10 times in the last two days. The game, when it works, is fantastic, but so many bugs and ludicrous cost for removing ads (£120 per annum) makes me more and more inclined to switch to Wordfeud..Version: 15.00.6

But, the technical problems with the game app are the worst I’ve ever encountered! Being locked out. Childish censorship within messages that violate free speech. Notification numbers always wrong, stuck and incorrect. Being temporarily suspended by the makers just because some scammer says you harassed them when you didn’t. The number of fake players who are really scammers is out of control, where they use the game and its message system to contact legitimate players and ask them for money or contact information. Not knowing the rules of how to advance on the Progress Maps. Past badges not accessible. Links within the game not working. The list goes on. ✓ Great Wordy fun!!I've been playing with friends as well as new players for quite a while now, and love it. Merging the chats into one chat with each player takes a bit of getting used to. Especially if you want to chat about a specific game, when you may be playing multiple games with the same person. But no real problem. Great that there's no real rush to make a move or finish a game. Read the other reviews re scammers etc. Use your common sense, and if unsure about someone. ✓ Great game but the dictionary is pretty weird and what’s with the flying boxes I don’t want?Love the game and play it a lot but I do have a couple of beefs: 1. What’s with the dictionary? It accepts words it says are,valid words but it doesn’t have a definition for them. Some of these words are accepted on some games, not others. It also doesn’t accept perfectly good words that are in every English-language dictionary on the planet except, it seems, this one. Who writes this dictionary, anyway? And do they even speak English? There used to be a feature where you could suggest words and provide a definition. Not any more, or it’s so well hidden no one can ever find it. 2. Yeh, I know that some people don’t just want to challenge themselves to play word games, they want all kinds of gew gaws to play with, win the game for them, boxes flying around that give you the right to do whatever for extra jollies. ✓ Good game but poor dictionaryHaving played hundreds of games on this app now, with a big range of competitors, I can say that the app is good. But many words are allowed such as abbreviations and a host of totally out of date Scottish words that no one uses, while many Shakespearean words are forbidden. They also allow many fake words. The dictionary needs rewriting and the rules changed to omit fake and archaic words. ✓ Love itI enjoy this game and play everyday. I find It at time intruding into space set up for me to do other things. Takes some discipline in my part. I enjoy being able to exchange lettters without penalty one time. I didn’t think being able to see spaces available where I could play would benefit but find it does help especially on a challenging environment. I like being able to chat. And presentation after the play to see if I placed my words in the best place or utilized the highest points that turn is fun. The advertisement sometime get stuck and I have to stop playing and turn off the game. I love scrabble but didn’t always have company to play. So I played the board by myself. But words with friends is so much more fun than the physical board of scrabble. I enjoy solo play but gets frustrating when I make real words and the game won’t except. I’ve been a dedicated fan of this game for a long time, but the update they did for ios12 is cluttered, rigged with all kinds of pay offers, and simply lousy... In response to the developer asking me to “take time and get used to the new look of the game”, I simply say, you are NOT listening to the criticism... badges won’t clear, you’re loading the game up with so many “paid feature” notifications and things that a user must clear each time they open the game... if you want revenue, why not offer the OLD game as a paid, crap-free app? Recently I have noticed there are a lot of fake players (mostly male) who are only interested in chatting, all seem to be of an “engineering oil rig” type of employment & have had some sort of “bereavement” wife, child, relative! This only happens when I finish all my tiles first. I then have to go and resign these games. Quite annoying really.
