✓ Ads and more adsTo start off, when I first downloaded the app it connected to my Tv just fine... the only reason I need this is because I haven’t seen the actual controller in like a year. And because it was easy to connect it gets an extra star, because from the reviews I’ve seen on other controllers, weren’t happy about connecting it. This app would be perfect... if it didn’t have ads. I get it that you need to make money and it’s free to download, but $6?! You can get rid of ads on Tetris for $5. This is a TV controller. Tetris is a free video game and it has less ads than this. I believe that a TV controller should have little to no ads because who needs them. As I said, it’s a controller. You’re supposed to be turning up the volume not clicking out of ads. Another complaint is how slow the buttons click, not too much of a bother for me but it still is annoying. I’ll tap the volume button 5 times and it’ll turn it up by 2 (then pops up an ad). My recommendation, if you want a decent controller, honestly, go buy an actual one. But if you don’t really care about advertisements that have nothing to do with their $6 to have freedom from a random app. Then download this. It’s not that bad, without ads, my only complaint is that if you want to turn it up higher you have to wait about 2 seconds for every tap. Which is easy to get used to..Version: 3.5
✓ Convenient... When it works.This app always has trouble connecting to my television even though both are on the same Wi-Fi network. I usually have to try five times and it finally works. You will spend most of your time trying to connect to your TV in frustration. Be warned. Update months later... Still the same situation. I have to go through the same song and dance with the app every single time I load it. I try to connect four times finally says it connects on the fifth time but it is not really connected so then I have to try again and finally get it to connect for real on the sixth time and then it finally works. It gets really old. Another update more months later: I have figured out that it takes five attempts to connect the remote to Wi-Fi before it will give you notification that it has been connected but then you have to let it connect at least three times or it won’t actually be connected. They drive me crazy especially when you rewind quickly and end up not being able to press play due to a stupid advertisement to then have to fast forward....... ✓ Absurd that u have to pay and limits the amount of downloadsThis app works great but it’s absurd after paying hundreds of dollars for a tv I have to pay for the remote. I have multiple TVs 4 to be exact and I can’t use the remotes that came with the TVs because they work all 4 TVs at the same time. The app allows ,e to work the TVs separately but if I bought 4 Samsung tvs including an 82” why does Samsung need 6.99 from me. Also, I did pay the one time fee but u can only use the ad free access on 6 devices then u need to pay again if u have more devices. Additionally, the app forces you to watch the advertisement for 5-10 seconds before allowing you to skip. The developer has succeeded in prompting me to finally buy a new remote. Thank you. I don’t know why these companies decided to advertise on this aggravating app — it’s one of those situations where you swear to never buy their products out of spite. ✓ UnfortunateThe advertisements are completely out of control. There are videos with sound that you can't exit out of until you watch a given amount of the ad first. When switching from another app to the Sam remote it will initially display the remote screen before reloading another advertisement which leads to clicking on the screen only to be hijacked to the advertisement's webpage. When you come back from that advertisement to open use the remote you GET ANOTHER AD!!!! It is incredibly annoying. ✓ Intrusive Ads Render This App Almost UselessThe intrusiveness of the pop up Ads on this app make it one of the worst I have ever used for this purpose. I’m perfectly happy to be advertised to as an alternative way to pay for my use of a product but this app is ridiculous. Unhappy with the continuous banner advert at the bottom of the screen the app will pop full screen adverts up whilst you are pressing buttons, for example while you are raising or lowering the volume, effectively tricking you into clicking the advert. On top of this, sometimes when the full screen ads pop up, it is impossible to close them (the ‘x’ symbol simply does not work) without just clicking on the link and then going back. My one reservation is that whenever I’d open the app, was idle for a while, or revisit the app from another app an advertisement would come up. It was understandable, it’s how they make money. But since the newest update there are now ads for every (about) 20 times you press a button on the remote! It is quite ridiculous if I’m trying to type something on my tv. ✓ Works with my TV but is this app safe to use?Downloaded this app as I’ve lost my TV remote... who knows where it is. The app worked straight away with my TV which is great. Very happy with the amount of control I had without a physical remote. HOWEVER later this evening I opened a banking app (Monzo). I did a few tasks and then switched back to SamRemote to see an Apple notification saying “SamRemote pasted from Monzo”. Immediately I am concerned... did SamRemote just take a copy of text or even worse a screenshot of what I could see while using Monzo? (My bank) If this is true I would say this is a serious mistake on SamRemotes part. If any app is collecting data from other applications I should be notified and grant permission. In just about a week or so, for no rhyme or reason, it stops recognizing the TV. In an attempt to reconnect, it keeps flashing pin on the TV and the pin entry dialog box on the app keeps appearing and disappearing before I can even enter, any one of the pin numbers being repeatedly shown on TV. ✓ Unbelievable deceit and greedI downloaded this app in 2020, paid the one time payment to permanently remove ad, and everything seemed to work smoothly. 2021, for security reasons, I had to create a new iCloud account, downloaded the app again, and just as the first time, I paid to remove ads permanently. 2023, I try to use the app, and I see back to ads. Oh no big deal, I think, let me just restore my purchase. Ok, nothing seems to be out of order, at first, then as I try to connnect the app to my tv, I caught drift of how they essentially will screw over people who had made the one time payment. So I see in these reviews they keep saying “hi, just restore purchase” but that’s just their way of mediating their duplicitous nature and appearing to honor the deal with the customers who have paid that one time fee. But that is as far as the honor it. Just telling you to restore it, but that doesn’t do anything. Sure the ads are removed, but lacks functionality. When trying to connect, you won’t be able to. It will suggest you download their “universal control app” every time you try to connect. Even Samsung devices this message will appear and will only take you to the App Store to download it, or dismiss the pop up message to remain disconnected. This universe app, of course, is subscription based. No one time payment. No honor. Just scummy vultures fueled by greed, avoiding to take accountability for the actions derived from their undeniable greed. Unbelievable..Version: 4.1.2
