Stepz - Step Counter & Tracker for Negative User Reviews

UpdateLoved the app till I opened it this morning to find the 7 day history ‘tower’ blocks have been removed!! Why? It was so good to see that history on a weekly bases..Version: 3.11.7

New features and excessive ads ruined this StepzStepz has more ads than any other app I have ever used. The cost to stop the ads is ridiculous especially for an app that took a giant step backwards with its “improvements.” Color scheme and readability due to the washed-out colors is terrible. Over-all display of data including every facet of miles/steps data displays are now awful. Ads pop up at almost every touch of the screen and are very difficult to close. Video ads, that are way too loud and are just plain obnoxious constantly pop up as well. I realize there will be a, “we’re sorry you’re not enjoying our app and here are the reasons why you should be” response to my critique but it just doesn’t cut it. I’ve read all the reviews which are dead-on and the responses which are weak. If you don’t have this app, don’t waste your time getting it. The frustration level it creates just isn’t worth it. I gave it try after try with all the downgrading it’s gone through and now I’m done. There is no redeeming value for using Stepz at this point and without a major overhaul it will end up in the pile of once good apps turned bad that no one uses anymore!.Version: 3.5.4

What happened to a great app?I have been using Stepz for years, but this latest update totally ruined it. The ads are very intrusive and they appear 7 or even 10 times while I am in the app looking for something. It is not possible to turn off the sound so it stops the audiobook I am listening to while I am walking. Also the overview of days and steps is not clear as it used to be. Sometimes the easiest way to display thigs is better than the fancy way. I understand that developing app costs money, but I would rather pay one time instead of this. I am looking for a different app. Bye.Version: 3.1.4

Ruined App - Don’t DownloadThis is actually an updated review from one I gave a few weeks ago. I was complaining about the bugs in the app with incorrect data and a few other items. After leaving the review I noticed a follow up from one of the developers saying they had had an update that fixed a lot of the bugs so I thought I’d try updating it and see if it fixed any of them. So I deleted the app and reinstalled it (why it didn’t automatically update like the rest of my apps, and yes it’s on auto update, is a good question but one I’ll leave for later). So, after running the new app the developer was correct, those bugs are fixed. BUT, now there are so many ads that pop up it’s basically unusable! I just left it the app when an ad came up where there was no way to get out of it! Seriously! They had a really nice little app that they have screwed up so bad it’s unusable. Sad. So DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS APP. GO FIND A BETTER ONE. -Rob.Version: 3.10.1

Just gets worseA good app recently destroyed. Only imports the current day right now, even though it’s supposed to have been fixed . Years of data disappeared.. I hope that can be fixed. Then there’s the new pricing £2.79/week for premium! I know they have bills to pay but that’s a joke frankly. *Update 16/02* another day another release. I now have data for 2018 imported but nothing for any earlier years. Very disappointed with this app and until sorted do NOT update. *Update 18/93* next update and the app at least seems usable now. Unfortunately all my historical data has still gone and clearly won't be coming back. This version has a manual import from health feature which is fine if you haven't changed phones in that time but if you have all that previous data is gone, forever.. I trusted this app when I hiked across America, twice. I trusted this app walking the length of New Zealand, I trusted this app walking the length of Norway. Together we hiked 10’s of millions of steps over the years. ALL THAT HAS GONE FOREVER! Goodbye Stepz, I'm GONE..Version: 3.1.2

It’s become very disappointing.... I recently got a response to my reviews below. The reply was to repeat what had previously been advised which was to reload history. (There is a function to do that). So I followed the instruction and now the App. is significantly under reporting the steps that I have taken. This App used to be so good but now it’s so frustratingly bad. I am compelled to reduce it to 1 star. Below is my original review. The app. Has still not been corrected. Essentially when the time zone is changed all the historical numbers are effectively doubled making a complete nonsense of the app. A huge disappointment. What’s good is this app is very straightforward. What’s so annoying is that every time I turn it on the data has changed.... significantly changed. Even refreshing the data doesn’t help. This used to be a good and consistent App. Now it is not. I have contacted the developers and they simply suggest I refresh the data after 7 days. They don’t seem to listen or understand so hence the App. remains poor. It was a really good App. but now it isn’t..Version: 3.8.3

Good appThis app challenged me to walk more. It is a simple yet powerful app. The best feature is the automatic goal setting. If you don't take 10,000 steps a day, this setting will ease you into that goal and encourage to to go beyond. However, I have a complaint. I encouraged my husband to get this app. Instead of being able to buy the app there is now a subscription! And what a rate! Really? So many apps developers have become greedy. This app is great but I’m not sure it’s worth such a rate and with the black cloud of a recession or worse looming over our country there will be many that won’t be able to afford it. In addition to that, the ads are so in your face the app is not worth having without the subscription. The app itself is worth 5+ stars but because of the high subscription rate and the in-your-face ads, I have dropped the rating down to 2 stars..Version: 3.10.1

Improve speed with last update generally a great AppA good App can recommend it, however the cost of the new version is ridiculous, I would not get it now. My wife would like to update to the nw version but monthly fees is ridiculously tooo expensive. A once a lifetime cost is much more reasonable there are other apps that do the same and are as good and are free..Version: 3.11.7

Excellent, but one problem needs fixingThis is excellent and I use it daily. I would give five stars if the one annoying bug could be fixed. When it passes midnight the last days numbers are forgotten. I have to stop and start the app to get correct steps. This bug has been there for a long time. This happens on 6 plus and 8 plus. Lowering my review to 2 stars as the bug above is still there. It must be easy to fix! Also the weekly active times are just random numbers. I assume they should the total of the 7 daily figures but they are at least half. These bugs should be easy to fix but I am seeing that there seems to be no urgency. Why ruin a perfectly good app with silly bugs? P. S. I am a paying customer. Not fixed! Ok down to 1..Version: 3.11.10

ReviewUseless - does not store - in a short time went from from 900+ steps to zero - an actual pedometer looks like a much better way to go.Version: 4.3.2

Works as promisedJune 2019. Used to be good, latest upgrade seems to have ruined it. Takes FOREVER to load, keeps wanting to import data so instead of getting an instant result I have to stand around for a minute or more to see how far I’ve been walking. I’ve also realised I can no longer set my stride, so the steps total doesn’t reflect the actual distance I’ve walked. Why can’t developers just LEAVE THINGS ALONE when the app is working fine. If they don’t fix things next upgrade, I’m deleting Stepz..Version: 3.3.1

DisappointedThis app was great for the first 2 weeks that I had it but since then there have been daily issues… I have been exceeding my daily step count but the % is showing as 0 and the colour is staying in red which is disappointing after working so hard… This morning my weekend stats have disappeared so it’s showing as 0’s right across the board! Also, on the day I downloaded the app I was awarded ALL the achievements which is obviously wrong and I can’t see that I can reset them anywhere. I have given it 3 stars in the hope that these issues will be fixed but will be deleting the app if I don’t see a change soon. It’s a shame as the 1st 2 weeks were perfect.Version: 4.2.0

Last update ruined my favourite appI loved this app and used it every day but last update it’s absolutely rubbish and it crashes constantly. It is nearly impossible to open it. I would really love to use it like I used to during at least three or four years but it is simply impossible. Please make this wonderful application useable again or send me information how to download old version of it. Hopefully it will work smoothly again shortly..Version: 3.0.29

Deleting this appWhy are you forcing me to pay weekly for something I’ve already paid for once? This app used to be amazing and now I’m going to have to delete it. I refuse to pay $3 a WEEK for something my phone, and countless other apps would do for free! On top of that, I emailed you guys three times about not being able to recover my initial account and you NEVER RESPONDED. Thank goodness for my password book because i never would’ve recovered my account. And now that I’ve recovered my account, you don’t even offer the option to DELETE IT!!! so my information will just be sitting out in space for God knows how long. I wish i never downloaded this thing. Im definitely deleting it and removing it from my phone today. You should at least offer a basic option and then move up to premium for those who can afford it, but instead you want to FORCE all of us to pay for it. That’s greed..Version: 3.0.29

Was good. Recent updates ruined itMe and my mum have used this app for years with no problems and loved it but the last two updates are a mess. It constantly overestimates my steps and glitches on the daily target stopping it changing colour when the goal is achieved. The home page used to show the last week of steps but now only shows about 6 days which is an annoying change. I had to switch to another app last month because it took ages to load up my previous steps. I like all the features and statistics that this app has but the recent UI changes and the overestimation of steps make it hard to use.Version: 3.3.1

Main Stepz ProblemUseless app! Shortly after installing Stepz, it shows unlimited ads & will not allow you to see your steps. The only way to get out of ad after ad after ad..is to shut the app down. Sometimes it has taken me over 30 attempts before it even ‘ALLOWS’ you to close the ad & see your steps! 😫.Version: 4.2.9

😡😡👎🏻👎🏻too much advertisements 😡😡.Version: 4.2.5

A simple app but not as good as it should beThe adds are an annoyance when trying to track steps. They seem to make the app glitch, that the colour for the day doesn’t change when the step goal is met. A couple of times now I’ve had problems where the step count changes and goes down after I’ve reached my goal..Version: 3.10.1

AdvanceI reinstalled the app because it wasn’t working and it won’t let me advance to the page where my steps are, it’s stuck on the page where it asks me to import my steps and I already activated the health app to work with it.Version: 4.2.0

Discontinue - very disappointingApp repeatedly needs reloading and despite canceling subscription both through the App and Apple my account was still charged..Version: 3.10.1

Great user interface but the ads are awfulToo many ads, each time you try to open the app an add pops up, you cant close them straight away, the close button is timed to appear a few seconds later, the ads interrupt your song/podcast and you want to check your progress during your walk but I dread opening it because of the annoying ads. I’m not against ads, you need to make money, just don’t make them so intrusive like you do—a banner without sound would have been ok..Version: 4.6.0

Rubbish since last upgradeUsed to be a nice simple app that simply did what it claimed to do Now it crashes repeatedly when starting and ads are major annoying!! Would have considered upgrading but totally unrealistic price to do so A one off fee would be ok but a regular fee for flakely app is not going to happen PS Latest iPhone and up to date.Version: 3.1.2

Data issues and crashesIt worked brilliantly then it was rebuilt a couple of years and has never worked since. Weekly totals doesn’t equate to the sum of the days. It gets completely confused when you cross time zones. The app design keeps reloading the data which takes forever especially if it stalls as it regular does. So many adverts on the app that play loud music. The user experience is shocking. Today I simply wanted to see how far I had walked and it took 8 goes over 20 mins on the app because it wouldn’t load the data and kept playing ads and the ad screen then freezing..Version: 3.11.11

Not workingApp not recording my steps this last week so it’s not working properly.Version: 4.5.0

New versionTerrible performance since the new release this week..Version: 3.0.16

Latest update ruined itI’ve used the paid version for years. It just did what it was supposed to do. The latest version made the usability worse, but most significantly it also now sometimes shows zero steps for some days. I haven’t figured out the pattern for it. But I disliked the interface changes enough that I installed a couple more pedometer apps, and they don’t have this issue. The worst part is that I don’t like these other apps as much as the old version of Stepz. I don’t need confetti animations, or my step progress visualized as liquid sloshing in a round tank. (Is liquid height still linear with progress?) So now I’m left with the health app. Which is functional, but isn’t as simple and focused as a dedicated pedometer. The step count as the round notification badge was a great feature. Update: deleted stepz. And no, I don’t want to email you at bendingspoons so you can personally respond with boilerplate explanation of why I should pay $150/year for a step counter, which the health app provides for free. I’m a software developer, and I always buy the paid version of an app. But I’ll never pay a recurring rental fee. Not for photoshop, and certainly not for stepz. And stepz wants to charge MORE than adobe does for photoshop + Lightroom. Madness!.Version: 3.1.4

No Longer UsableUsed this apps happily for years . Unfortunately it has become a chore to use , the continual bombardment of game advertisements that you can’t switch off is hopeless & insulting to the user . Be warned if thinking of downloading this app they have taken this to a whole new level , making it unpleasant to try to use . In a marketplace full of competitors I am hopeful of finding a usable alternative ..Version: 4.2.1

Used daily before this upgradePlease! can I roll back the old version back this upgrade doesn’t give me any functionality improvement -just changed all the colours into something really hard to look at.Version: 3.3.1

Too many ADsToo many ads make this app painful… you click to get out of the AD and another AD pops up and you have to wait 30secs but when you click out of it another one pops up… and you have to wait another 30secs … and repeat…once you get into the app it is ok … just painful getting past the AD loops.Version: 4.2.9

AdvertisementsThis app has changed to total games and advertising, totally frustrating, ridiculous and I am searching for another app.Version: 4.2.9

Thumbs DownNot happy with the new app. Do not like the fact you can no longer set the step length. I spent time fine tuning the old step length such that in a 4 mile walk I had my number of steps within 50-75 steps of the actual total. In addition in a four day span the number of steps recorded are bogus. One day showed Zero steps although I walked over 5 miles. The other days on either side only recorded 3200 and 3300 steps when again I walked over 5 miles each day. My step count should be 2000 steps per mile. With this new App I just walked the same 4 miles I have been walking for 3 years, the previous App recorded 8000 +/- steps and 4 miles. The new app recorded 8960 steps and 3.5 miles. Not even close! Not accurate at all..Version: 3.0.29

No Longer Worth UsingMy walking group of 20 people had used the Stepz App for over 3 years but it’s simply not worth using anymore because the latest update bombards the dashboard with continual advertisements making it a complete waste of time. It’s just another case of corporate greed trying to force people towards paid versions of their Apps. The developers of Stepz once had a good product but have shot themselves in the foot - they just lost 20 users in our group and I expect there will be many more to follow us..Version: 3.0.29

I PAY for this app, yet I still get ads when I open the app! Canceling!Isn’t the whole point of paying for an application so that you don’t have to deal with annoying and unwanted ads every time you open the application? I never had ads on this app before, yet all the sudden I’m getting bombarded with them every time I open the app now! I will be canceling! My subscription is still in tact so I’m not getting ads due to non payment. I refuse to pay to use an app only to have ads & commercials shoved down my throat…no thank you! I just want to open the app and see how many steps I have really quick, instead of having to patiently wait for these stupid commercials to play out! I can use a free app if I want ads, and save my money! Do not pay for this app unless you love paying money only to see the same repetitive ads. Smh.Version: 4.6.0

App PerformanceOverall the app is great; however, from time to time it will lose a day of data. Powering the iPhone off devv and on normally works - not this time h. I cannot get the 20k+ steps walked last Friday. 12/27. How can I get that fixed in order to have accurate data? Thanks. Today is Jan 9th and have noticed that once again have lost the previous 5 days of data. Power f in and off did not work. Very frustrating. Have deleted the app whichi was I means all of my past 4 years kicks by by TVof data is gone. I used to love this app. Can you fix the bugs or what ever is causing the data to disappear? Lost 4 more days of dada in May. Powering the phone off and on does not always work. Still am missing about 5 days worth of steps. Very aggregating..Version: 3.11.11

These ads are annoyingI literally had to download a new app because the ads on this one hold you hostage and don’t let you check your steps..Version: 4.2.5

ADSI understand the ads and the need for app developers to have them in their apps but man oh man, overdone with Stepz. Have banner ads and stop or limit the video ads that just keep taking you to another ad page when you click X or fast forward - when it allows you. The ads are ridiculous in this app. Looking for another step counting app..Version: 4.3.0

I liked it until the last updateI downloaded this app during the summer and checked it every day through fall and winter. Overall, i find it really encouraging to know that i walked 4 or 5 miles on days when i haven’t taken time to “work out” but I’ve been busy/on my feet throughout the day. Having the data also gives me an incentive to walk at least as much as I did on other days within the last week. But I just deleted the app last night because the last update screwed up my data. On Friday I had more than 10K steps, and on Saturday I barely had any because my phone battery was dead most of the day. after the update it showed Wednesday as having more than 12K steps but barely any for Thursday Friday or Saturday, like the one really low day was stretched out to three. I’m also skeptical about the accuracy because there have been times that i was sitting on the bus or subway for a while, and the step counter went up before I stood up. I’m not sure if I’ll download the same app to see if that fixes it or just try a different app..Version: 3.0.29

PublicitéJe suis très mécontente d’avoir toujours des publicités , quand j’ouvre mon Stepz. Veillez me soustraire de ces publicités . Car je vais me plaindre à qui de droit. Merci Jacinthe Moreau.Version: 4.5.0

Why I deleted your appFor a number of years now I have been using this app I absolutely loved it I kept track of my miles daily, weekly and yearly. Since March 2015 I have walked over 6015 miles keeping track using your app. With the new update it lost almost 1000 miles of my walking, your screens became very confusing as to what I was looking for and displaying information properly. The fact that the only way to get this app to properly run is to sign up for a temporary free trial and then it goes to $2.99 per week. It is now been deleted from my phone and I’ll just have to find something that works as well if not better than stepz. Very disappointed in the changes that were made to the application. I wish you all well, thank you very much for a good product in the past..Version: 3.0.16

No longer counts stepsThis used to be my go-to step counter app but a recent update (as others have pointed out) has made the app unwieldy, more difficult to use (more scrolling instead of all on one screen) and today 1.2 miles in to my walk - the app told me I had take 250 steps. Fortunately I had another exercise app installed that gave me an accurate count of 1.2 miles not .01 miles. A very big difference. In closing, this app no longer counts steps. The developers updated this into irrelevance & missed major bugs that defeat the very purpose of this app. Very poor & very inconsiderate to users. One can only guess how poor the update testing was. Turning to other apps. I suggest those reading this do the same. I see the developers to their credit are answering the many new negative reviews. To them I can only say do not forget the whole point of your app which is to count steps..Version: 3.0.29

Good app too many adsGood app too many ads annoying.Version: 3.6.1

Cancelling this prescriptionsI’ve tryed to cancel this and just couldn’t.Version: 4.2.5

Nice little app but for a couple of issuesI downloaded this app on the recommendatio of a friend as the current app I’m using has no Apple Watch feature. I have a couple of issues, however. Firstly, despite there being an Apple Watch app, there doesn’t appear to be a way of installing a complication on my watch so I can’t see my data at a glance. Secondly, I am a Voiceover User and honestly, it’s not easy to see your data on the dashboard at all. There appears to be 4 pages of information but using the flick gesture to move between pages makes no difference. I still see the same information that I see on the first page of the dashboard. If you could fix these issues or, in the case of the Apple Watch one, correct me if I’m wrong about there being no complication then I will absolutely update my review and rating..Version: 3.11.2

Now WORST. APP. EVER!!!I would give this ZERO - 0 - stars if possible. This was once one of my favorite apps for counting steps and monitoring physical activity. Recent ‘updates’ and so-called ‘improvements’ have now made it one of my most hated. Deleting as soon as this review completed. We all understand App development and maintenance is a business and needs to be profitable. BUT... the number of ads, games, videos and pictures (some of which are offensive in both content and noise level) is utterly ridiculous. And your supposed subscription ‘fee’ is absurd. Even though I could afford it, I would never purchase it as you have completely violated my confidence in the quality aspects of your product. You will soon (if not already) be amongst the many failed companies who have taken a great program and trashed it. Another one bites the dust. :-(.Version: 3.5.4

‘Stepz’ REALLY need to fix international travel ‘bug’!This app has been on my phone since around 2015 and I love it except for recently I noticed that when I travel overseas from UK (for example Greece, +2 hrs), the auto change in time zone messes up the steps and Stepz duplicates several of the ‘hour’ entries. It ends up that I might have done, in reality, 12K steps (per Apple Watch) but Stepz jumps from 12K to 18K (as an example) when the time zone changes. The only way to fix this is to reimport the historical data every time you change time zones, and this in itself results in errors, for example 13 Nov last year, my Fitness app shows 15,082 steps yet Stepz only shows 9,383 steps despite several reimports! Despite posting this review several months ago, I’ve not had the courtesy of a response from the developer :-( Top tip for the developer, don’t pester me to leave a review if you’re then going to ignore it!.Version: 4.7.0

Was good now garbageThis app works nicely but there are now so many ads that’s it unusable. If you are looking for a free app that counts steps use the free Apple Heath app. Stepz is not even worth downloading to try..Version: 4.3.0

App was great, but now sometimes loses dataI have used this app and found it great for years until early this May/ 2-3 weeks ago when it started losing step data from a day or 2 days ago, showing zero steps, even though on that day it showed the data correctly. Then a day or days later it will show that day back at its non-zero total. In short, unreliable!.Version: 3.2.0

Inconvenient at its Best!!I used to love this Stepz app until I was unable to check my mileage and other factors because of annoying ads that were impossible to X out and rendered this app useless in real time! I understand the necessity of advertising to support your business model however allowing this intentional ridiculous design to impede the purpose of this app in order to encourage paid subscriptions is extremely upsetting and I would never respond to any of those ads on general principle alone. If your purpose is to annoy your users by posting ridiculous ads that aren’t even appealing or relevant you’ve accomplished your goal. I think that you personally would feel the same way if you were out walking and couldn’t utilize this app which used to be much more user friendly. Something to consider..Version: 3.11.12

Terrible- too many ads that won’t closeRecently it started loading game ads that won’t close until a bunch have appeared, and then eventually I see the ‘x’ button to close the window and get to the steps app. I will be deleting this app and looking for a new one..Version: 4.2.9

Not good graphicsI have been using Stepz for four years and enjoy it very much. However lately it is not been able to show the steps that I’ve taken in grout form. The newer versions do not seem to work on my iPhone 6s. Updates in the program should still allow it to function the way it did originally, but that is not the case. I guess the updated versions do not work on older iPhone software. However I like the graphics that they use. The software says I need to enable the health app and I have enabled it but it does not seem to recognize the command so I’m going to have to look to buying another car application rather than Stepz. Sorry..Version: 3.11.12

StepzHave been using stepz for some time now (off and on) but i am getting very sick of getting these gambling games and apps coming up....and...not being abke yo shut them off easily....in fact, i am very close ti deleting my stepz app....very p..... off.Version: 3.11.10

Good app going downhillUsed to be a great app but over the last 18 months it’s become really unreliable. It somehow loses days worth of information, sometimes the same day appears twice, sometimes takes a while just to open. I’ve restored the history but it changes the numbers significantly. Really noticeable when you go from weeks of achieving your goal only for it to appear as though on most days the target was missed. Seems completely out of step with the Apple step counter...but not consistently. Just bizarre..Version: 3.8.3

Once the best… now not so muchI have used this app for about 6 years. It was the absolute best. I refreshed it lately and discovered the ads…. I get it, you want to get paid for a great app, but full page ads??!!? The app also takes longer to load and the location of the onscreen ads is not ideal. I looked at the premium price, and thats where you really lose your stars. $3.99 / week??? I would happily pay a one time charge of $10 for this app. Had I been subscribed for the 6 years I used it, I would have paid over $1,200 for this app. Thank you for 6 years of the best step counter ever, but now I need to go look for another one…. If you ever switch to a 1 time fee model without add I’ll come back..Version: 4.6.0

Why ‘fix’ what wasn’t broken?I got this step counter because I just wanted something simple to count my steps and see how far I’ve walked. Now it’s been ruined by changing the display so I can no longer see easily what I’ve done; It takes several minutes to download info each time I open it; It wants me to connect to an Apple Watch (I don’t have and don’t intend to get one); There’s a heading to count floors climbed which never shows anything however many stairs I climb; it doesn’t count steps accurately anymore. I cannot set my step length and if a step counter does not count steps what good is it? I’m deleting and looking for another..Version: 3.0.29

Would like to see past weeks progressI prefer the old version of the app where you could see past weeks step count and see how far you have come. Much easier to use.Version: 2.4.1

Poor quality control, unaddressed flawsThis app has a good basic design but its primary flaws haven't been addressed after years of weekly app updates. There's no dark mode long after most apps have added one. There are no options for modern control center or lock screen widgets. The number of steps is always higher than the amount displayed by Apple's own Health app or most other step counter apps. The app doesn't reset for the current day and shows inaccurate totals for every category, requiring me to force quit the app and relaunch it almost every morning. As I write this I can't actually use the app after the latest update because it shows "Please wait while we finish importing your history" and a progress bar that never ends. This happens at least once a week. Waiting five minutes and force quitting the app doesn't help. Deleting and reinstalling it hasn't helped either..Version: 4.7.0

Not accurateThe app seems to also include driving and somehow counts it as steps. How can I trust it to be accurate?.Version: 4.2.2

Questioning the workability of this appI just got a new Apple Watch 6 and I had Stepz on my phone. So I was excited to try walking with my watch on. I walked about 1000 steps— my results are zero on my watch. I walked a little more, it still says zero. I go back to my apartment where my phone is, and I open the app. It now says that I walked so many steps. I look at my watch and all of a sudden all the steps show up. Do I have to carry my phone with me and use the app on the phone in order to look at the steps I have walked? It kind of ruins the use of the watch as a pedometer and phone if you have to carry the phone everywhere with you while wearing the watch. Can you not get an immediate reading on the watch?.Version: 4.2.0

Gone downhillThis used to be such a neat little app, did what it said in the tin, counted steps, and gave a historical perspective. Now it is so cluttered with ads, that get in the way before you can access the figures. Every time, even if you switch momentarily to another app, there’s some loud interfering music and a screen you can’t dismiss right away. Plus you get unwanted alerts telling you how many steps you need to reach your daily goal. Plus it now sometimes gives you an alert that you should have got yesterday. Or shows last week’s days at 0 steps, wrongly. I still do use it though, as unfortunately there isn’t anything else. But that’s a pretty low bar..Version: 3.11.5

Not good, don’t useApp hangs/crashes when trying to import historic data.Version: 4.6.1

Junk App!I had no issues with this app until a recent update. It told me to wait while it imported my history but despite trying over WiFi and 4g the progress bar gets almost to the end and sticks. I contacted Customer Support and emailed them a screenshot but still I haven’t been contacted with a solution! The Customer Service is disgusting! The least I expect is an email from a human being explaining what has gone wrong and a solution. Unless a fix is found I have lost 2 years worth of data and all through no fault of my own! I would avoid this app at all costs until they employ technicians that know what they are doing and drastically improve their Customer Service Department!.Version: 3.6.1

DisappointedI have always used Stepz and loved it! Love the look of the new update but that’s not a cool move making lots of the previously free features pro subscription only now. I don’t think it’s worth $4.99 a month for something that the Apple Health app does for free..Version: 3.0.13

Lowkey a scamThere was absolutely no way for me to use the app without signing up for a free trial, which would automatically charge me $2.99 weekly if I didn’t cancel it before the week was up. Checked my bank account and I was charged $1.49 for a “free trial + 1 week”. Sorry, no, I signed up for a free trial, not a free trial plus a week. Nothing on the app said that I would be getting charged today. Nothing on the app said I would be getting charged before my free trial had ended. What a bunch of dodgy tuesdays..Version: 3.10.1

New Updated StepzThe original version was solid and appeared accurate and enjoyed the simple clear presentation of info. The new version is unreliable in its recording some days simply not recording anything others approx half the actual activity. If it was still reliable which it no longer is the info presentation has now been developed to be a bit too tricky for what it is- also now plagued with ads which is very unappealing for an app which is so personal....so in short a great idea that has fallen prey to overdevelopment and commercialisation - a pity as will now be looking at alternatives!.Version: 3.3.1

Was a nice app.I’ve used Stepz for about three years and found it useful and it became part of my daily routine. Then it was “upgraded” - and RUINED. I don’t know what to believe. I’m on an extended vacation so I can’t compare to my usual routes but in my limited testing the upgrade is broken. Using this mornings walk if the number of steps recorded is correct (6590) my normal 27” step shows as 6.6K and 2.3 miles. If converted, via simple math, 6.6K would be 4.1 miles. Conversely the 2.3 miles would be 3.7K. Those comparisons just plain don’t agree. On or both are wrong. Further, assuming the number of steps is correct, that would have been 2.8 miles with my length of step. What is a user to believe. Come on, this only requires simple math. I am being generous giving this one star. I must now go look for an app that works better than this..Version: 3.0.29

Tons of invasive adsUsed to be good but new ad campaigns make it impossible to use - too bad.Version: 4.2.9

It’s pretty good!I haven’t used many step apps but because this is easy to use, does everything I need and works even when not loaded into memory, doesn’t hog system resources I see no need to change. I even feel compelled to purchase the pro version simply to support good app! Update; not liking the latest version as it bugs out on launch, takes three attempts to get it to load, then 5 to 10 seconds later you get a pop up screen which is not interesting, just annoying. Also the current step count that used to show on the Stepz icon is no more... As a result I have reduced the selected stars from 5 to 2.... 😒.Version: 3.0.29

Later updates have made this worse overall...I like many others have used this app for years (since about 2015) and become frustrated with how with the most recent updates it either became clumsier, full of adverts or just plain broken. I also suffered the recent doubling-up of historic step counts and that really wound me up! I’ve found that if your Stepz app is linked with Apple’s Health app (iPhone’s Settings > Privacy > Health > Stepz and make sure the steps, flights climbed, distance and active energy are allowed) then you can re-import the historic data (Stepz app > Settings cog > Reimport Historical Data) and it reloads it correctly from Health’s data (which is direct from your iPhone and should be accurate) so that fixes the problem. Developers - please fix the app so this isn’t necessary!.Version: 3.4.0

Not happy with the new appI liked the other way much better cause when it opens you see the steps, miles and calories then see the other when you want but this new one doesn’t always open on the first touch if it does it blinks off again. I have over 13 million steps and many times have went over 30,000 steps in a day also new colors and no explanation as to what they mean. I will continue using the app but change isn’t always good for everyone more for the few. Thanks. Also I absolutely hate the pop up adds that come on now also don’t think anyone actually reads this but what the hell at least I am venting and it releases my stress.Version: 3.0.29

Flakey app, intrusive adsUpdate (after 1 year’s use): The ads are intrusive—full-screen with blaring sound and no way to set default to silent. The ad screen stays open after timed animation and is difficult to close w/o inadvertently being pushed to websites or app store. —Therefore I no longer look at app during my walks—I ask my walking buddy for her step count instead. Too bad. I’ve also noticed flakey app behavior—periodic disappearance of my step goal or failure to register a day’s steps; sometimes counting one day’s steps as 2 days. Disappointing. I like the app’s features (see first review below), but I now avoid looking at app except once at end of day. I used to look at small ads on app dashboard; now they disrupt app use so much that I use the app much less. ———- Earlier review: I’ve used the free app for 4 months as a pedometer. I like the easy-to-read display of current & recent days’ activity, esp the weekly average. I am a light user and can’t justify spending $50+ a year for a subscription (that price is just under a low-end fitbit with accompanying app). After a recent update, full-screen ads regularly pop up during app use—one had sound that I couldn’t lower, which was really aggravating. I didn’t mind in-screen ads, which I sometimes find relevant, but the new full-screen ones are so disruptive..Version: 3.11.12

An upgrade not necessarySince the new version, this app has become more troublesome. They have removed app icon which could tell your steps without opening it but now only in paid version. Several crashes. Previous version was better..Version: 3.0.29

StepzAds sometimes freeze, occasional black screen, no way out other than reboot phone, I just reduced rating because I do not want a nickname.Version: 4.2.8

Riddled with and a Stupidly expensive subscriptionThe free version is a big standard step counter that’s nearly unusable due to the intrusive adverts. Get Steps+ instead. For a mere £2.79 a week, you can get a step count on the app icon (previously free) and an improved Today widget. Yup, that’s £2.79 a WEEK, not a one time purchase. Just to recap, the authors of this little step counter want to charge more than an Apple Music subscription or Netflix 4K just for a badge on their icon. They must be having a laugh. App now deleted and replaced by Steps+ which, although it lacks the badge icon, is much better in terms of overall functionality and achievements..Version: 3.2.0

Good app. Ads are a hindranceI’ve used the app for years and does what it is supposed to do. 5 stars for that. I used to be annoyed by complaints from users about advertisements in an app when they were getting an app for free, but you’ve taken annoying ads up a notch. They pop up on every screen or touch and actually stop what you are doing. Annoying is one thing, but hindrance reduces functionality. Some ads have a large no thanks button at the bottom to clear the screen and get back to what you were looking at, but most have a tiny x tucked in the upper left corner of the screen which takes multiple attempts to properly detect I am pressing it (yes, most likely my phone case in the way and fat thumbs). Reduced rating simply for this reason.Version: 3.1.8

Now with a $2.99 per WEEK subscription!Wow, at $12 per month for a step counter this new version’s premium features should be life changing. Nope, unless you consider that many people will be switching to another step counter. I originally used this app for its simplicity and clean design, and a local only step counter without all of the extra social and awards crap, but that has changed. I can’t imagine anyone paying $2.99 a week to add an icon badge and remove Advertisements for any App that is mostly a UI for the builtin step counter. “We currently offer the following auto-renewing subscription option: 1 week of free trial followed by $2.99 per week. By subscribing, you get unlimited access to all our premium features (historical data, advanced stats, widget, achievements, icon badge) and you will have a fully ad-free experience.”.Version: 3.0.29

App OK but Ads annoyingThe app itself works fine, and I realise ads are necessary for the app to remain free. However, to force users to watch and listen to a gambling ad for some time before allowing a user to shut it down is very annoying. Thinking seriously if looking for another more friendly app..Version: 4.3.0

New update now app not workingApp has been frozen and not working since update. Not tracking steps. Unable to click on anything. After watching short ad on opening the screen is just frozen. Before update this app worked great. Used daily..Version: 4.6.1

ExpensiveAfter a month i received an email that my weekly subscription fee is going to change. This app has increased my fee doubled than the regular payment.intially it gives a different number to insist customer to install the app then, the started charging more. It’s fraud. Don’t install it..Version: 4.6.0

“upgrade” ruined an enjoyable appI used Stepz every day for about three years and enjoyed it. The upgrade ruined my experience and has made me seek a different app for counting steps. I understand that I may need to look at ads if I want to use the free version, but I am not willing to tolerate gambling ads that play with no way to exit them. Banner ads OK. Video ads or gameplay ads that play over and over again and can’t be exited without exiting the app? Nope. Plus the app stopped counting my steps accurately. Whole days were missed. This is not acceptable and so I’m going to move onto a different app. unfortunately there is no way to export my data from Stepz so that is three years of walking 10,000 steps a day that is lost from my step counting history. If the subscription fee had been more reasonable, I would have subscribed and paid for the app. But the subscription fee is far too high for me to consider..Version: 3.5.4

Absolutely Hate New DesignThis app used to be great. It was easily 4-5 stars. Then they changed the interface a few months ago and now it’s horrible. 1) Before, you could see your goal AND number of EXACT steps achieved for the day on one screen. Now you have to look at 2 screens for the same info. 2) You use to get the EXACT steps achieved above the graphics so you could tell at a glance what you did different days of the week. Now you have to tap on each bar to see that # at the top for a single day. You have to tap each bar to get the steps for that day. 3) There is a pop-ad EVERY TIME you touch the screen for whatever reason. I get you need to make money, but REALLY??? 4) You used to see the entire last 7 days by default. Now you have to scroll in order to see that ... along with another ad pop-up. 5) The washed out colors are horrible. The vibrant ones were much more pleasing to the eye. I’m so disgusted, it’s getting deleted after happily using it several years..Version: 3.1.7

Badly targeted ads ruining this appThe app is becoming nearly unusable due to ridiculous adverts for Candy Crush-esque games, Solitaire and first person shooters. They have no X button, are noisy (this has caused me problems when I checked my step count in a quiet environment) and last for minutes. According to your own information, you have access to my personal data, meaning you know what I purchase. You make money from adverts, fine, but why are they very suddenly so totally misdirected? I’ll never buy any of these games. You’re losing the enthusiasm I had for this previously useful app..Version: 4.2.9

Annoying and inaccurateI used this app for quite some time, and liked it. Then suddenly I started getting ads that popped up so fast I couldn’t push the H first even if I was poised and ready. I usually have to press the x on the as 3-5 times to get it to close. Yesterday I got a new phone and when the ads open they start playing a video with loud audio, even if my phone volume was set low. I can’t stop them without exiting and clearing the app. I’ve been climbing stairs a lot, and it doesn’t show. Last week one day I went up and down a staircase 15 times. A half hour later when I looked at the app, it said I had climbed 2 that day. I know I had more than that in my house. Needless to say, I will delete this app. I wrote a complaint not too long ago, but never heard a solution and as of yesterday it is worse than before. Bye-bye!.Version: 3.3.0

Used to be a great appThis used to be great but now most ads are long, loud with no way to turn them off..Version: 4.2.9

Shame about the adsReally annoying adverts pop up and sometimes can’t be muted or closed Useful pedometer and better than it was when they lost the last seven days total in favour of week by week. Useful hourly, daily, weekly etc. totals. Seems to need to download data every time you check and defaults to a pop up advert rather too often. Usually about whether I’m planning to get pregnant. The owners don’t respond to messages. Don’t cross time zones- it doubles your steps Adverts more and more annoying.Version: 4.2.1

Apple Watch ComplicationApp looks good simple and is just what is needed simple step counter so we know how we are going. Pretty disappointed though that there is no complication made more this to add to the home screen of the Apple Watch. Please look into it..Version: 2.3.1

Latest version is poor.I’ve used this App for a few years & on several different iPhones & it was very accurate. The latest incarnation of the App is extremely poor in measuring the distance covered. With the older versions you were able to enter your own step distance figure in the settings. I’ve used this information with actual known distances (miles) & found it extremely accurate over the years. In the latest version they have come up with a computed figure for step distance & you can’t enter your own actual step distance figure. In my case it’s very inaccurate. The App is ok for counting steps but rubbish at actual distance covered. They’re not planning to put this feature back at anytime soon they’ve told me via email..Version: 3.0.29

New update is the worstI wrote a review about a week ago which never got published. I wonder why? The new update is rubbish. Firstly it stopped showing my steps on the widget without having to open the app, whereas now you have to pay for this convenience. After writing my last review stating how terrible the new update is the app won’t even open. As I’m hoping it is still recording everything I’m waiting for an even newer update to fix said problem so I don’t have to delete it and reload it. If they don’t listen to all of the bad reviews about the widget not showing the steps without paying for it I will delete the app altogether and find a new one. Not impressed!.Version: 3.0.29

Not worth $155/year!!My sister told me about this app last year-she was over the moon about it so I got it also. I went with this one over “Pedometer” because the display/interface was better. I’ve loved this app/5 stars...until this”update”! Now...2 or 3 stars! $155/year? You have GOT to be kidding me?! It’s now like Pedometer only EXPENSIVE! The interface is less user friendly & more cumbersome than before, the badge icon is only available if I “purchase” the app and I’ve lost my data from before May 15, 2018! Somehow I’ve also lost my data in the Apple Health app from before that same date!! I’ve had this phone/an iPhone for at least 7+ years & all my Health data uploaded to the Stepz app when I got it last year. I’ll probably be going to a different app! A real shame. Developer: yes, I know this feedback is “precious” to you. If your customers were precious you wouldn’t have gone in this direction. I do not understand some perceptions of “progress”! I say “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!” Bring back the “old” version, please?! I think many Stepz users are feeling the same. My sister is furious and very disappointed!.Version: 3.0.29

Say something Stepz!I feel for you Stepz. You’ve clearly hit a lot of negativity about the recent updates from your most loyal fans, including me. But you could take the front foot by communicating back to us about the thinking behind the changes and whether or not any of them can be quickly updated again or reversed back to what they used to be like. Come back to us on the main themes of our feedback rather than simply sending occasional apologies and asking us to send emails. I sent an email and got an automatic reply asking me send another email which I did. I got another generalised response to that one too. That’s so frustrating. I realise you probably don’t have the resource to reply to the hundreds of messages you’re receiving, so why not put out a statement which is more specific, responds honestly to the issues and settles us all down. Then consider changing your automatic responses to contain the same info along with an apology for not sending a tailored response whilst you’re concentrating on trying to fix things. Comms is everything and unfortunately yours is letting you down more than the update itself. Apologies if you have already put out a statement and I’ve simply missed it. If that’s the case, please point me in the right direction and I will eat humble pie. Thanks for listening..Version: 3.0.29

BrutalThis app used to be great, much better than what you get from the health app on an iPhone. Then they decided to start playing ads all the time, and now it sucks. Find something else..Version: 4.3.1

Gone downhillHaving used this app for a while I recently updated it. I wish I hadn’t. The UI is harder to read and it is now plagued by adverts. Also keeps freezing and sometimes the totals are wrong so I have to switch off and on - very disappointing. Even more frustratingly since I moved to a new phone it is no longer accurate - ok on the day itself but then adding steps later - often with two consecutive hours showing the same totals. This means I can no longer trust the week, month or year. I’m really annoyed as I’ve used it for two years and now I have no choice but to move to a different app and start again. I’ve looked for ways to ask for help sorting this out but can’t find any - hence the review. Gutted - used to love this app..Version: 3.6.2

Good app ruinedThis was a very good free app with the occasional ads to keep it free then it changed the you hit bombarded with loud game ads with very slow faded x that make it hard to clear. I understand the need to sell’s ads but it is no good if your customer base decreases which looking at many similar reviews no doubt would have seen customers reduce, have your ads to keep it free but be sensible and sensitive to customers.Version: 4.3.1

Annoying ad machine that sorta counts your steps“If it’s not broken - break it!” is the motto of one of the developers who is part of the team now in charge of Stepz, and it’s exactly what they have done with what used to be a favorite app. You are constantly bombarded with loud and intrusive ads that make using Stepz a nightmare. You get those more or less every time you switch to the app. It’s very careless to have that on an app that people use when they are physically active. It’s not just annoying and frustrating, it’s also distracting and can be a safety hazard, showing a high degree of disregard for the users from the developers. Apparently the permanent ad bar on the Stepz screen was not enough for them. What you get for all this is a very questionable aesthetics update and lots of distinction which the pre-2019 version didn’t have - your monthly, yearly, etc, totals are always miscounted after midnight. To fix it you must 1) open the app 2) force close the app 3) reopen the app (yay, ads); if you ever travel to a different time zone all your data gets totally corrupted and you have to download it from....the free in-built step counter that comes with your phone! Each and every time! And one wonders why they demand those outrageous prices for “the full experience”. All of this has been the same for quite some time now, so obviously the developer does not care for us, users of Stepz..Version: 3.11.2

New app updateWe as a family used this all the time. But the new update is totally rubbish. My mum Couldn’t even get in it, and two of my children have moved to different apps now. It doesn’t auto reset the next day for everyone so you never know if that was their yesterday’s or today’s steps. Most of us don’t get the ads because we got the paid version. But one child who does says they’re terrible now. We as a family of 8 on stepz will be moving to another when we find one which is a shame as we loved it before. It needs to go back to how it was. This update wasn’t needed and is terrible and dull..Version: 3.0.29

Dumb adsI’ve been a long-term user, but they’ve recently introduced ads that are way too long/impossible to turn off… seriously! Even when the tiny “x” appears at the end of the ad, you click it and it acts as if you’re clicking on the ad… then you go back and a whole new ad starts to play! Disappointing, will be looking for a new app.Version: 4.2.9
