✓ Loud audio bug!There is a terrible and embarrassing bug in the most recent version which has made me dread playing a video in public: Even though the system volume could be muted, I can play a video in Narwhal and it will play at full blast which causes a mad scramble to try and turn it down. I still love the app compared to other Reddit clients but this is is absolutely ruining it for me currently, please please fix it!.Version: 2.44

✓ A step forward but not at the finishing line.Honestly this app is better than Narhwal 1 but it is no where near Apollo. For starters, the navigation bars are constantly on display. This is distracting and ugly. I don’t need to constantly see a nav bar when I’m just scrolling through a thread The other thing is it doesn’t use Safari web view. I was hoping this would be one of the things that would get changed with the new version. I appreciate that the dev added an ad blocker but really I would prefer it opens links in Safari web view instead of this weird in line view that doesn’t offer reader mode. Lastly which I can’t really fault since most Reddit apps did not have it is long pressing a child comment to quickly view its parent comment it is responding to. ✓ I avoid videos because everything freezesI don’t typically write reviews for apps. But, I am incredibly frustrated. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max on a later version of iOS 14 (non-jailbroken, thank you very much). But, there’ve been many times I get stuck watching a video because the app bugs out with anything longer than 30 seconds. I can’t use any swipe actions or go back to the main page; nothing works once a video is playing, and I have to remove it from the background. I don’t know if it’s something with how the app processes or displays videos, but I just get stuck. There have been numerous occasions where I’ve had to completely exit the app and remove it from the background, only to continue hearing the audio from the video for another 15-20 seconds. I only downloaded this app because it was an alternative to Apollo that wasn’t Reddit’s official app (which is garbage). I’m glad to have been around for the golden era, and disappointed to see reddit fall to total corporate greed and poor leadership..Version: 2.48

For crying out loud, the logo is a button to switch between light and dark mode.... who needs that?!?! Why replace a standard UI feature like the logo being a home button with something people absolutely do not need instant access to.... Besides all that, its riddled with bugs. Gestures constantly skip around the screen, causing you to execute the command you were trying to do on a completely different post. ✓ The most recent update killed it, please fixThis app used to be fantastic and I would have recommended it to anyone (and did!) However I can not recommend it in its current state. A random loading circle comes up from time to time that wasn't there before (very annoying and disrupting!) and the great multiple account feature has been destroyed- you can still use it but it's terrible. If you swap accounts, the mailbox is still the account you switched from (so can't read new messages for different account) and also if you post, the post will also be under the name you switched from! ✓ Excessive costI understand the reason for needing to apply a subscription but the costs are mad. When 2.0 launched it said there would be a lower $2.99 option, which would translate to ~£2.50, but the lowest option available is £4 per month. It’s sad because this is easily the best Reddit app, but to pay nearly £50 a year for a free website is mental. ✓ Removed featuresUpdate on narwhal 2.0: you guys took away the hide read posts option! That’s was main reason I was using the app Has all features the Reddit app doesn’t have and isn’t a nightmare to use like the reddit app. Only feature it is missing is the ability to swipe through posts. In this app you have to exit every post snd click on the next one. One annoying thing with this app too is that when you click on a post with a video or gif it doesn’t open the full video. So on every post you have to click the post, then click the video, then click off the video to get comments and finally click to exit the post. I just have one minor grumble with your app. In the drop down menu with share,sort,report,etc you only have an option to refresh comments and no option to refresh the contents of the actual post. I have a questionable internet connection and often need to refresh several times before pages with start or finish loading. In a browser this is no problem, i just click on the address bar and press enter. I probably won’t ever use the Reddit official app, so I’m glad this exists, but the user experience is so abysmal…it’s like the programmers never uses the app themselves. Example: clicking on a link to a video, opens with the video only taking up half the screen, so you have to click on it to get it full screen. Then the play controls are extremely limited, play pause only, no sound controls etc. then when you try to go back to the thread you have to click a link to load comments…what the heck is this? The ads have always been unobtrusive, and the app itself has always been flawless. ✓ Loud fire alarm sounds. Poorly created app.For most part it runs well. There is one issue though and that issue is giant: The ads that are displayed in the app are downright disgusting. What I mean is that they are incredibly intrusive. Browsing the app I suddenly got an incredibly loud fire alarm sound. I was incredibly confused and suddenly realised the sound is coming from my phone. I turned the app off and it disappeared immediately. Searching outline it looks like lots of people have had the same issue over the past years. The developers have clearly not done anything to address it. The above combined with the guild tripping, manipulative pop up message that instead of asking you normally to share your data with the app, instead gives you a sob story telling you how they would never use your private data inappropriately but really need it because they are making the app for free is a deal breaker. ✓ Never mind, overhearing back07 Aug 2022 - Overheating is back again, was just using the app for about 30 minutes and felt it through my case. I use an Apple silicone case so it isn’t very thick. Hot to the touch after taking the case off. Previous update and original review follows: Overheating issues were fixed. Developer commented that it was due to bad banner ads. I still have the other issues so not 5 stars but still the best experience I’ve found as most other unofficial Reddit apps that would measure up require you to buy the app to post or sign in with an account. Not giving those apps the time of day. Original review below for posterity: As of writing this (24 July 2022), the app is causing my phone to overheat. This started within the last 1-2 weeks. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max that’s up to date on the latest public iOS 15.6 (no beta channel). Sometimes it takes about 7-10 minutes, other times it’s noticeable within just a few minutes. App is also up to date. Not sure what’s causing the issue. Going to check out other apps because I’ve had assorted smaller issues (GIFs playing slower than they should be, accidentally triggering gestures while scrolling). It’s not every iPhone that these issues happen to as my roommate uses the same app on an iPhone 12 and doesn’t have the overheating or GIF issue..Version: 2.44.2

✓ Some annoyances but otherwise a decent appI'm not a fan of some of the functions. When I figured out how to up/down vote I couldn't help notice how backwards the process was. To up vote you swipe left, but to down vote you swipe left even more? Why not swipe right instead? The whole thing feels awkward. Even when swiping the length of your screen doesn't always work. The ads at the bottom of the screen are incredibly bright especially when using night mode. I still don't know how to comment. I saw it once but forgot what I did. The report feature for posts doesn't allow you to provide details in why youre reporting. I do like the viewing cards when browsing. You click and see the contents and from there you can press view comments with out having to go back. This makes it easier to view articles without leaving the comments section. ✓ Videos ignore mute button!!I came to this app because Antenna was getting too out of date. I wish the gesture handling were more like Antenna’s but I recognize that that is a design decision that is mostly over. Here are my major griefs with this app: 1) Videos don’t say they’re videos (they look the same as photos) and they don’t respect my phone’s silence button. So I can’t use this app at night next to my spouse. 2) The image and album handling is poor. I struggle to exit from having zoomed on an image. I thought zoomed all the way out and so can now swipe to get away from the image. Nope. I have to try two more times. 3) Albums are frustrating. There’s no way to swipe between images. I have to completely exit the image back to gallery view to view the next one..Version: 2.44.2

✓ Well, it's a Reddit appI don't really browse on my phone all too much anymore. Some of the "features" laid around over lap each other and can be difficult to use. Like down voting can lead to upvoting or constantly opening the subreddit menu. The god awful sideways feature kicks in all the time like all other bad apps for the iPhone. I'm still on iOS 9.3.2, and that's not changing anytime soon, so I have to thank the people behind the app for at least for keeping it optimized for my end, unlike the actual Reddit app. Last complaint, I hate ads, but I have Reddit gold!..but narwhal doesn't care. Overall I'd like to give it 3.5/5 bc it actually still works.Version: 2.14
