Story Planner for Writers for Positive User Reviews

Great tool, but wishing for different layout options.I want to start by saying that this app is far more in-depth than I had anticipated and I love it for that! When it comes to fleshing out your characters, this is a go-to piece of software. The primary reason I purchased this however was to work on outlining. While it does have an outline feature, I find the layout of it to be a little strange. I’m wondering if there’s any way that a cork board-type note system for scenes could be implemented? It would be nice to be able to see more information from the scene without selecting it and also get more of a bird’s eye view on the way things are shaping up rather than having to scroll from top to bottom every time. Aside from that, this is a spectacular app and worth far more than the $5.99 they’re asking for..Version: 5.2.8

Great!Very detailed, super helpful, good app for writers!.Version: 4.4

Great app!I absolutely love this app! It’s very useful for jotting down ideas and building on them. One change I’d make is to be able to customise some of the tabs (like character, locations, etc.) so that users can add more info boxes to do with the plot. That would make it a 5 star app!.Version: 5.2.8

So usefulI can’t speak to how well this app serves seasoned writers but i can attest to its usefulness for us novices. I am in the middle of penning what I hope to be my debut novel and have found this little known gem invaluable. Pros; Can work on multiple projects simultaneously while keeping everything separate and organised. Keeps everything in one place and is easy to tag themes, locations, plots, characters, making it easy to world build and develop ideas. Helps keep things on track as you can easily access an idea or thought to work on by searching key terms. I found with a physical notebook (of which i have hundreds!) I often lose ideas or scene starters i scribbled in a moment of inspiration. Here i can always find them Supports split screen which is immensely useful when needing to research the density of air or the speed of light. While in the distance of writing a scene, so as not to lose my flow, I will fill in uncertain measurements or facts with [x] and then afterwards I will go back through and add them in later. The ability to split screen on iPad is essential to this purpose. Additionally, I like being able to Pinterest open with my inspo boards while I write. I tend to write directly in the app, but of course if you are writing in a word doc, the split screen function would be ideal for this as well. I like that I can add photos for the locations and character helping me to visualise and become immersed in my story. It also helps keep things consistent having that constant reference available. Cons; I quite literally can’t think of any. I love this app. If you are a budding writer, get it!.Version: 5.7.4

A quick reference outline that keeps excess paper and computer boot ups out of the wayAlthough I have already created an outline via Microsoft, I immediately inputted that info into this app. It gives me quick access to all notes I need so that I can continue to work on my writing without having to search for hand written notes or toggle back and forth between windows and files on the same computer I’m using to type. It was well worth the small amount of money it costs. If I could rate the app higher I would. Some may like conventional methods (I still use pen and paper when an idea comes to me and I need to jot it down fast), however, the ease of mind knowing where and how easy it is to access information that is critical to your creative work is a godsend..Version: 4.15

E-awesomenessI love this little app. Makes it simple and quick to jot down any fiction idea I get, anytime, and I can keep several stories going and organized at once and lose nothing. I’ve been looking for this sort of app for years. I use Scrivener, but that’s a bit too bulky and complex to be popping out of my pocket just to jot down a sentence or brief idea. Notepads don’t cut it, either, because I’m too disorganized to sort through random jabbering later. The organization— plot, characters, settings, etc.—is logically laid out in a way that makes complete sense to me— not perfect but close enough. And the price is definitely right. I don’t think I would have purchased this one for 20 bucks, though I’m not sure about that now that I’m using it. Paying a total of about eight dollars for the desktop and iOS versions was a sweet bonus that encourages me to look at what else the developers might come up with. The short version: love it!.Version: 4.10.5

It is good for this beginner. Helpful with arranging my thoughtsI enjoy the app, but really! This is a writing app. How about proof reading the content of your own product! There aren’t just a couple of typos. It’s really bad. I’m not trying to be a jerk. I’m just being very honest. You get zero stars for grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, and the like! (I do realize that, either someone writing in English as a second language wrote your content, in which case....good work!, or an A.I. wrote it, in which case, gods help us!) Thank you in any case. It’s a great sketch book for me so far..Version: 5.3.8

Recommend, but...I use this app daily. I’m working on a poetry collection, and I like being able to separate poems by “acts” and “scenes”—it helps me keep track of the number of poems in each chapter. One thing I don’t like, however, is that there’s no way to simply preview each piece. The only way to read over my work is to go in as if I’m editing. Otherwise, it’s a decent app. Just needs a few things added to make it more beneficial for the writer..Version: 4.9.2

Love it!This app has helped me be more productive as a writer. I don’t think I’ve ever had a more structured plot, thanks to this app. One suggestion I would like to make is a section to put important objects. Lots of good stories have plot-driving objects, like the ring from Lord of the Rings and King Arthur’s sword in the stone. It could have descriptions like the special properties it has. Just a suggestion, since it can be confusing to put stuff in the character section, but I’m otherwise in love with this app!.Version: 4.11

Great for organizing, but marred by technical issuesI’m not really a writer but I enjoy dabbling from time to time. So, this app is great for organizing stories without just diving in to begin writing. I really like the different sections, and the prompts and assistance that the app gives me. It helps me flesh out the ideas by just following the prompts. However, the app frequently force-quits when I try to do anything. Luckily I never seem to lose information. But restarting the app and jumping back into where I was is jarring and frustrating. Still, I’m enjoying the app so far!.Version: 5.4.2

The subscription model..I luckily am not required to have the subscription (legacy user). Even with that I do not believe the contents here are worthy of a subscription model. A simple price increase would have been better. Personally I’m someone who’d rather pay 10$ for a quality app over paying 10$ a year. If I wasn’t a legacy user I wouldn’t have ever bothered with this app. Update: Dev’s listened to their customers and changed. It’s 5 star again.Version: 5.1

Exactly What I NeededI’ve been searching all over for an app like this — I even googled it. I love how it breaks down each section and subsection of my story so that I don’t miss any details or leave any holes in my plot. That’s exactly what I was looking for. It’s user-friendly, the subtle navigation animations are very fluid, and with the split-screen feature, I can write my scenes and have my character’s bio up at the same time for reference. That way, their characteristics remain consistent throughout the story. Best of all, it’s a one-time purchase, not a monthly subscription (why is that even a thing?) and there aren’t any hidden “premium features” that you pay extra to unlock. The example story that comes with the app is a good reference if you’re not sure what to put in the boxes to build your story. It’s seriously the best app for writers that have trouble structuring all of their ideas into a story that makes sense. It will be the best $5 that you ever invest into your work, believe the hype!.Version: 5.2.2

Amazing by BethCI love this app. I use it everyday just to add notes or a new character. I would be lost without it!! :).Version: 2.5

A Fantastic AppI couldn't believe my eyes when I first discovered and started using Story Planner. It's a great app that not only helped me write and structure my stories but also educated me about the craft of writing and laying out a good narrative. It's also great that it allows users to export their story plans to Final Draft. I highly recommend this app, 10 out of 10!.Version: 4.3.3

So easy to navigate through! Love how easy it is to add thingsThis app’s design is simple yet really effective! On the first day, I already figured out how to add new characters, locations, and events. Everything’s practically already laid out! Honestly, it’s very worth it for the price. I’m absolutely loving the app! It really helps the planning process flow easier. I feel more confident in my plot. I can remove the boring parts and compare different routes. It’s also really easy to move things around. Honestly, if I could suggest something to add to this app, I’d say “more features to help organization.” I love having an aesthetically pleasing board. Sometimes while working, I’d wish I can add a text box so I can separate texts in the same category. Or create another category or subcategory. Or that there was a way to add bullet points. Maybe change the font too. (These functions might actually be in the app though. I haven’t explored it for long.) Anyway! It’s an amazing app! Absolutely adore it, and I’ll be sure to recommend it to my friends who like writing!.Version: 5.5.6

Great toolI stumbled across this app. Love it. It is so easy when I'm on the go and have a story idea. Helps me break it down and send through to scrivener..Version: 3.0

Extremely UsefulAs a writer, I often have a hard time remembering all the attributes about my characters. Now I have one place where I can put all that information and it’s accessible from my MacBook, my iPad and my iPhone seamlessly. Plot info, character details, notes—it is now all in one place instead of on index cards that somehow manage to disappear just when I need them. Also a great place to store your ideas for future books. I’ve found it to be a lifesaver. It’s convenience is fantastic. I use it almost daily to track my projects and its so easy to use if you decide to change ideas or characters, etc. I think it’s a must have if you are serious about writing. It can also be exported to Word or a txt file where it can easily be stored and/or printed. Great product!.Version: 5.3.2

When is the Mac version out?Your website says this is now for Mac, yet it isn't... when will it be ready? I have changed this to five stars. It is actually surprisingly good! Not much documentation, but if you actually have a story, and load it in, and learn to observe and fiddle a little bit, it all becomes quite clear. Seamless across my IOS devices, now I want it on my Macs (hurry up guys!). I'm also hoping we get a print function on the desktop version, with tailored fields, then you can pin up your road map. Oh... did I mention I am agog for the Mac version...?.Version: 4.4

Great app but a bit confusing for beginnersI would love to have more help and guides in the app about each tab or feature. That would help a lot. I know some sections have information like what is a plot, what is a character, etc. But it would be more helpful to have some videos or just written guides on how each tab works like the plot and the scenes, etc. How in the end of the day it would become a book for example or a story in an orderly manner. I can give 5 stars if the app can be improved..Version: 5.6

This app is pretty good! But some thoughts for improvement...So, I have found the app to be very useful. I like a lot of the features it has, particularly with creating plots with different colors and the statistics. I also love the drag and drop feature for rearranging scenes. In general, this app has a lot of good ideas. However, I think there are a few features that would really make this app a five for me. -When I am adding a scene card, I notice that unless I click the down arrow at the bottom left corner of the interface, I can’t scroll. I’ve found that exceedingly frustrating. -It would be really nice if the “Acts” were collapsable. I have a lot of scenes per act, since I’m using this for story outlining. So, it’d making the interface easier to use if this was a feature. -Along the same lines as the above, I think it’d be nice if I could choose different layouts for the scene cards. For instance, if there was a compact view where you only see the scene titles. Or a view where you could see the scene cards as cards in along a timeline. I’ve just found myself scrolling and scrolling to find what I’m looking for. When you have a lot of scene cards, it gets cumbersome to rearrange them when you are scrolling and scrolling just to find them. I hope your team will consider some improvements!.Version: 4.14.2

Loving it so far!I’m currently writing a book and have done extensive research on helpful writing software, but unfortunately most popular options are a big expense and still have their downfalls. I honestly just wanted something simple, affordable and that had a clean design aesthetic. Story Planner is definitely delivering! At first I was hesitant about the rigid outline structure and not being able to fully customize how I wanted things organized, but tbh sticking to their method of organization has actually forced me to try a new way of outlining and it’s been really helpful so far. I also really appreciate their “info” notes that are available in each section that further explains the process of professional outlining. This app provides a way for me to keep all my random notes organized and in one place. Having this this planner on my IPad paired with google docs for writing my actual chapters has kept me productive and inspired. I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I really wish that the ability to insert pictures was not just limited to the characters and location sections. I also wish that in the characters and locations sections I had the ability to add multiple pictures. Being an extremely visual person I keep a Pinterest board for all my storylines and I wish I could insert images I find that inspire scenes, plots, character development, etc..Version: 5.5.2

Nice appWould so much appreciate the ability to attach images to characters, locations, plots.. etc Please look into this..Version: 4.8

A feature requestI love the app, especially being able to export out to scrivener. I have one request - could you please add the functionality for the users to add their own custom fields within the main categories? Example under locations we have the fields: description, name etc. It would be nice to add more fields such as: smells, season, sights, sounds etc..Version: 5.3.11

Awesome app, but I can’t use it on my laptop :(This app is amazing, and I can’t fault it. It would get 5 stars if it were available on windows.Version: 5.7.1

Simple and CleanThis is still an ease of use app. And I've figured out that the Scrivener and Final Draft aspects, are Project based, as a whole, exported, which suits me fine. While the individual sections, Character, Location, Scenes etc can be exported as txt or rtf, which suits me fine as well. The Icon is fixed in the latest update. Very nice! Now I just need an Object list, similar to Locations and Characters, but for weapons and or other items, handheld, wearable, or vehicles etc. And it would be great if we can add our own categories to be filled in. Example: For Characters: Name, Age, Role in Story etc, I'd like to add my own set of categories, such as in the physical description section I'd want it separated by body piece, Eyes: Colour? Number of? Glasses? Hair: Length, Colour, Style/Cut. Basically able to customize what's important to me. Same for Locations, the ability to add more detail, through customizable options would allow me, to describe a building in full, like say Castle In the Sky, Where Found on Map; floats above so and so, exterior. Then Castle in the Sky Interior, Kitchen, Dungeon, or Throne Room. Describe lighting, windows if any, seating arrangements. But then there are the Macro Locations, on a Galactic,Empire,Planetary/Realm scale etc..Version: 2.2

Great App, would like character connection sectionI think it’s a great app! It does everything it says it would. It does have some spelling errors though. For a writing app, I would expect no grammatical errors. Also, it would be nice if it allowed a section to display the kind of relationship specific characters share. But still good app..Version: 5.2.8

Just started usin it and I LOVE it!Just what I was looking for to help jot my ideas and plots and characters down. Literally just started using it and know I’ll be hooked on this for a loooooooong time. The one thing I would like to see added is a timeline function. Something linear that can visually show you what happens instead of looking at drag-and-drop boxes. This would help me out immensely with character development as I can develop a backstory I can glance at and see when things could/should have happened..Version: 4.11.4

I needed to organize my thoughts. And this app was perfect for that! It has fields to fill in about people and plot points that I really needed to address if I were to really get this story off the ground. Not only that, but it helps define the different aspects of a story to help me better understand what to write and where. Thank you SO MUCH!!.Version: 5.4.2

I love this app but I’ve i found and issueYou see I use this to outline and control what I’m writing but after I downloaded the new update I’ve been experiencing some glitches Or maybe bugs is a better term but anyways a white bar appears on the right side of my screen and the cyan as it appears to be cyan bar where you have the add a new story and download to social media buttons I think that’s what there are though I haven’t clicked button number 2, appears on the bottom of my screen and I can see the area you put the plot there I still love this app I’m just wondering of this was intended or not (sorry it’s long).Version: 4.8.6

Best app everI love this app it's actually fun and easy to use.Version: 2.6

Fabulous, uncluttered, reliable, easy to use. Well done!I have used quite a few software tools to assist my writing. Some too simple, some over-complex. StoryPlanner walks that fine balance between providing the write with good functions and recording functions, without locking you in to one particular Theory of Story. Combine the MacOS app with the iOS/iPadOS version of this app and you have a highly portable and flexible writing tool. I have spent today loading up my current working projects and the clarity of the App allowed me to spot a couple of things that would need to change. Finding them early saves multiplying a problem. There is one thing I would like to see included: 1. Props or Objects : In the same vein as Locations, being able to record create and assign Props or Objects would be handy. (Mrs Peacock is in the Library but has she got the Candlestick?) A 'Nice to Have' option would be to be able to import a Chapter / Scene outline as text. You can work around this by creating one or more Story Templates as Stories in the App. Overall score: full points for both MacOS and iPadOS/iOS apps. Well done guys and thank you..Version: 5.3.13

Love It!Definetly worth a buy. Makes script planning fun and manageable..Version: 4.3.7

What it says on the tinIgnore the negative reviews, as they're not understanding what this app is actually for. This app isn't here to help you brainstorm ideas. It's a tidy, clutter-free space to sort out and outline your ideas once you have them. In this app you can organise your characters, plots, settings and scenes in one place, ready for writing, editing and later review. A pro of this app is that is syncs well with scrivener, another great app for the actual writing or your story..Version: 4.4

Amazing appPreviously I used an app called “a novel idea” however it was taken out of the App Store. For a long time I could find no other app like it until I found this. It’s the perfect tool for organizing your story ideas. It’s simple, versatile, and cheap. I’d give it a 5 star but I feel like it is missing a couple more features that could really set it above the rest..Version: 4.10.5

The app keeps crashingI can’t even open the app on my iPhone or on my laptop and it’s already sent a report that detailed what happened. However, they have not taken any steps to fix it. Until it starts working again, this app is a waste of money. Update: They were able to help me fix it and get it running again. Thank you!.Version: 4.14.3

Very well thought out; helps put ideas on paperThis app is a must have for those who have stories in their head. It helps organize them, flesh them out, take the burden off the writer for having to remember all the key details, especially when a new thought pops up that might disappear if not recorded quickly. I would love to see the ability to add new categories and boxes on all the screens and fully customize the app to fit the writer and his/her ideas. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to future updates..Version: 4.6

Helps this autistic/ADD woman out with writing!!!This is THE BEST PLANNING app for writers! The visual statistics for the scenes and plots helps me PROFOUNDLY! I LOOOVE Scrivener, but at times I can get lost in it and not focus on my planning/researching. This app helps to take out all the ADD distractions I normally get in scrivener and centralizes the meat of planning your book all while looking aesthetically pleasing! I LOOOOVE how it keeps my notes organized, because I’m a notes kind-of-gal. I write a lot of them. This app helps me to find certain notes I’m looking for with tags and color-coding (great for autism) all while keeping each note in a card with its own details! This helps sooo much!! Also, the fact that it can easily integrate with Scrivener is a HUGE plus! There are also several helpful information icons throughout that really help you to understand storytelling! If you have scrivener then I HIGHLY suggest you use this story planner app as its companion!! Especially if you struggle with storytelling due to ADD and autism!.Version: 5.7.1

Fabulous appSo simple on its face. So useful in action..Version: 5.5.6

Excellent organizer for projectsI use this to replace The Board for breaking down the structure of scripts. It does a great job at it and if you take the time to prepare before you dive into the Scenes, it can provide you with some nice stats at the end, such as how many times a certain character appears in the project, which is the most popular location, etc. The more info you give it the more it gives back. After everything is laid out, then I start writing the scenes in Final Draft. So, pretty good tool, does exactly what promises..Version: 4.4

My Saver! This App has helped me so much in planning my story! I will DEFINITELY use it in the future! It’s a 5/5 rating for me! What are you waiting for? Stop looking at the reviews and get this yourself!.Version: 4.3.4

Great AppI’ve been looking like an app like this for a long time since A Novel Idea was taken down. While the app is great, one suggestion I have would be the ability to organize character functions better. As an example, every character under “protagonist” would all be grouped together. You should also be able to just type in the character function rather than choosing. It could help organizing groups, like having all people of team “A” and people of team “B” all under one file or headliner. Beyond hat, great app and definitely would recommend it to others..Version: 4.12.1

Excellent application.Excellent app for storytelling..Version: 5.4

Great for Capturing IdeasI like having a specific place on my phone to keep quick notes and ideas I have for a story when I’m out and about rather than loose bits of paper (adhd). Years ago I was using an app that I can see in the App Store hasn’t been updated since 2016 or something so I downloaded this one instead. One thing I think story planner is missing that I found really useful in the other app is the ability to add character relationships! I suppose the tag feature could be used to show groups of characters together but I would also like to be able to have a list of the characters friends/relatives/enemies/whathaveya on their profile..Version: 5.7.4

Really helpful for novel writingStory Planner is so great not just for novel planning. But, more critically for those of us starting out for novel writing - it helps introduce the concepts needed to write a satisfying novel..Version: 5.6

Thank you!☺️I want to say thank you for making this app available without a subscription fee. I know that’s a huge sacrifice. These days it feels like every app requires a subscription, and it’s frustrating to keep track of each one like a monthly bill. I hope that users of the Story Planner will donate to you all when they can, and that you all are able to receive funding and peace of mind to continue maintaining this lovely app. Thank you!.Version: 5.1

This is probably the best story creator app I’ve ever had!I have a few questions, and I’m gonna ask them through this review since I can’t find the website(I found the website, but I was expecting an option to type in questions). Number 1: How do I show a character ark by typing it? I can type a character ark, but I don’t know how to structure it correctly. Number two: Do the inner and outer goals for a character have to always go like “He/She wants to do something or needs to do something”? Or can I type it and structure it differently, like for example: “He/She plans to do something” instead of “He/She wants to or needs to do something”? Again, Gmail is a good option. Still a great app! For the second question I’m just curious. I’m sure you can structure it however you like, but just curious..Version: 5.2.8

Great! I thought it had 800k reviewsSo, I was looking for a way to plan my novel and I came across this app. I thought it had way more users based off the reviews and bought the app. So I was pretty surprised when I used the app and came back to leave a review only to see very little reviews. The app looks great on my phone and makes it easier for me to keep track of characters and locations. And scenes too! While it’s not an app to write out your entire novel it’s incredibly useful. I like using the app to help plan while I use another app (Scrivener) to write my novel. So basically, this is a great help if you want to plan your novel using your phone in a easy and convenient way..Version: 5.5.6

Everything you want for a story planning appThis app is perfect! I literally can't stress that enough. Since they added the option for adding photos of characters/locations it seriously can't be beaten. I've got my novel planned meticulously on this app and I wouldn't want it anywhere else..Version: 4.3.2

Really nice, only one issueI’ve really enjoyed this app, but recently it hasn’t been saving my progress. I rewrote an entire paragraph and added new info, but when I went to add to it the next day, the progress was replaced with what I had before I changed it, and the new stuff was completely erased. I can’t remember exactly what I had written, so this is very frustrating. This has happened a couple of times, so I’ve had hours of work just vanish..Version: 5.2.8

Fantastic little app! This app has everything you need to get started. The UI is very helpful- it’s simple and easy to learn. A suggestion- as of right now when I’m under the “Scenes” tab I can only see one colored bullet point for the main plot. It’d be nice to see bullets from the “other plots” section underneath so I can see everything at a glance on the main page. Other than that I thank the developer(s) for making this a one time fee! I was having so much trouble finding a story organizer that didn’t require a monthly subscription..Version: 5.2.6

GreatThis app is very easy to use and keeps me organized though I do have some minor critiques. I think it could use another tab for world building (landmarks, wars, government structure, religions, etc.) as there isn’t really a place for that anywhere else unless you use the “Notes” feature. Also, I think you should be able to select multiple character roles for each character (ex. Dumbledore: mentor, confidante, protagonist’s help, etc.). Other than that, I think it’s fantastic..Version: 4.11.1

Nice app, with a caveat...I like this app. It does its job well. However, the developer’s decision to release an update every few days with the vague description of, “minor updates to make the app more helpful” is a little bizarre. To my eye, the app has remained unchanged over the last year. If they’re just making bug fixes, I would much prefer if they were released in batches, as is standard. Or in the very least, if the description offered some indication of what bugs are being fixed!.Version: 4.11.12

Love, but have a couple of suggestionsI absolutely love this app!! Definitely worth the money I spent on it. However, I have a couple suggestions to make it even better :) First, we should be able to add our own question things to the character & location forms. I’d love to be able to have all the info about my characters in one place, rather than having to rely on Word or something similar to keep track of favourite/least favourite things, religion, schooling, etc. Second, it would be great if we could search things (possibly add hashtags at the end of each form, so that we can easily find different categories of things at the same time) Other than that, awesome app! Thanks for making it :).Version: 4.15.1

AmazingI’m incredibly happy i brought this app earlier. i haven’t even been using it for a full day yet and it’s already making planning so much easier. i’ll never have to use my phone notes again lol. keep up the great work!.Version: 5.3.2

A MUST for any writerI have been using Story Planner for a few years now and from the time I first opened and used this program I was instantly hooked. This is by far the BEST Outlining App that I have come across. I use it both on my iPad and MacBook and I never have to double type or copy and paste from one platform to another because the Syncing feature works perfectly with the occasional hiccups that might require a re-boot but I have yet to lose any part of a project. The ONLY part of my writing that I do not use SP for is when I actually am ready to sit down and work on either one of my Screenplays or one of the book series that I am working on. That is when I use either Scrivener or Final Draft along with Story Planner. Story Planner is inexpensive and DEFINITELY worth the money. SP is hands down one of the best outlining / story planning app that money can buy, especially for anyone who has an interest in writing as a profession no matter if it is a project for a screenplay, book, play, or even poetry. Try it out, and you will see what I am talking about..Version: 5.7.1

Very nice novel designer appI have tried several novel planning apps and this one is my favourite. Unlike other ones, this one looks professional, has no known bugs and has syncing between iOS devices. The iCloud syncing is wonderful. Sometimes there is a delay in syncing between devices but I cannot identify the cause. This is only a problem if you want to use the software on one device and then immediately use the same app on another device. In my opinion, it is missing one feature. There is no facility within the app to store ideas for a novel. For example, you have started writing a novel, then you get an idea for another part of the novel, but the idea it not formed enough for a whole scene. The solution is having a separate app for the initial design of the novel, perhaps a mind map, and adding new ideas in that app. When the idea can be incorporated into a scene you can then add it to this app..Version: 3.0

Finally an all in one appThis app is pretty good. I can write locations and characters which is concisely descriptive too (not too much, not too little). This app has a simple and a nice look to it. You could even customize the project settings, unlike the story plotter app. The notes and statistics is also a nice addition, and I'm surprised there's no recent reviews to this app. (The only reason this isn't 5 star is because I only used the app for like 2 days).Version: 5.6

Good Fiction Writing AppTaking a fiction writing course at the moment, I stumbled upon this app looking for somewhere to keep different fiction writing projects and build up characters little by little, plot, character arc, and all else I need with fiction writing. Overjoyed at finding this app. I like the fact pictures can be added. A nice addition. I carefully read some reviews and found the developer seems to implement what users ask for. As it stands I find this app incredibly useful in the state I find it now but also hope for further development..Version: 5.3.13

A great entrance into organizing all my ideasI love this app for a few reasons. It's hard to find a free app that backs up your work automatically to the cloud. I have a very scattered 77 page draft and this app is helping me fill in my holes and create a well rounded, efficient , piece of writing. I only wish there was a desktop version so I could write on my phone when I'm on the go and refine on my computer at home..Version: 3.3

Excellent tool for writersAs soon as i got this app i was able to organize my story ideas easily. I use this on my iphone at work to jot down notes and ideas in the appropriate boxes as well as on my ipad at night...that way i can always get a line or two down per day. They all sync with the same app on my big mac where i usually have it open during long writing sessions. I bought it for my big mac and paid another $5. to get it synced on my other 2 devices. Well worth the money. Get it, you’ll be glad you did. Writers need to write everyday. This will help!.Version: 4.14.3

A writer's dreamIt's the easiest and most efficient app I've come across to help budding authors handle the tricky planning, outline and structuring process of novel development. And the results can then be exported for use by a number of writers tools - Scrivener and Final Draft being just two. What also delights me us to be able to fiddle about on basic input on my iPad and then progress happily on my Mac. Highly recommended..Version: 4.14.2

Great!Very excited about this. Just downloaded it and it works just like it should. Very simple perfect for outlining story beats. Already helped me after 10 mins thanks!!!.Version: 3.0.1

Simple and successfulThe app is clear, intuitive and stays out of the way of the process of gathering and developing ideas. It is easy to jump to different areas of story/ backstory development..Version: 5.1.4

Initially I was a bit disappointed, but now...This app is my go to app for getting ideas quickly organized and seeing how things play out. Being able to move scenes around especially helps me figure out the order of events. Best thing is, I’ve done all this in bed, laying down, just moments from falling asleep when an idea seizes me. I fill in as much inspiration comes to me, and then I pass out without worrying about forgetting something. I would recommend this app to a friend..Version: 4.12.1

Exactly what I've been looking for. This app does exactly what it states and does it well. It's very easy to plan out characters, locations, and scenes. It even allows you to organize by act and chapter. The UI is simple, clean, and easy to write in. Backing up and importing with iCloud is easy and fast. 5/5 I have no complaints about this app so far..Version: 4.1

Good app for planning your storyUsing this app allows you to plan and create your story and characters!.Version: 4.35

Great AppI love this app design - it works very well for the way I approach my writing. It makes it so easy to keep track of all my plots and characters and location, etc. My one gripe is how it lags. I try to scroll and it freezes then I have to wait till it catches up. Then once I do scroll down I have to wait again to tap - then I have to tap multiple times. I type and it takes a while for the words to appear. I deleted all my location pictures because i thought that would fix the issue - sadly that didn’t. Other than this one very, very frustrating point - its the only app that I’ve personally ever come across that is structured almost perfectly for outlining. They really hit the nail on the head with this one and I look forward to new features..Version: 5.7.1

More options for choice lists pleaseThis is a great app and wonderfully simplistic! I use it often as a quick reference and enjoy creating barebones plot summaries with it. However, I sometimes have trouble fitting characters into the “function in the story” category and would love more options (such as a simple ‘secondary character’ choice) or a way to add my own terms to the lists. Overall still a very helpful product idea!.Version: 4.8.3

Well-organizedI love that you’re able to not only create scenes and characters but also link the two together! I only wish there was a way to add custom fields for more detail, and/or an “objects” section (I think another reviewer suggested the same thing?). Otherwise it’s easy to use and I haven’t had any major issues yet..Version: 4.15.1

Excellent writing toolI got adhd, so I have a hard time organizing. I definitely don’t regret the $5 or whatever I dropped on this. If I could say I desire anything from it that it doesn’t provide yet, maybe more places to put pictures and visual references, maybe in the notes section. Something to where you can pull up visual references you may have uploaded into the app easily. And possibly have more dungeon master friendly tools. This app is mainly for getting stories written, but with a few settings and jigs, this app could easily be a one stop shop for dnd people to get an adventure/campaign written. Things like places for stats or have it ask you what format you want out of novel/game when you open a new project, just spitballing. I’ve been able to get SOME use out of it for that purpose, but as it stands, my final drafts of a game end up in a different app altogether. Other than that, this is my favorite writing app when getting organized before I jump into the pages..Version: 5.7.1

A fantastic App for writersThis app is fantastic for anyone look to make a story short or long. My only issues with it is the time setting in the scene section. With a story that takes place in the future, the scrolling way is inefficient. And that you can’t sort your characters and locations into bigger folders or categories to improve your productivity. But other then that your investment in this app is well warranted and its clear the developers have passion. I can’t wait to see how the app grows in the coming years..Version: 4.10.4

Great app, sync would make it perfectFantastic story-plotting app. I was able to get a story drafted out whilst on a flight recently using my iPad. Just wish you could sync over iCloud or Dropbox. I use this iPhone and iPad, but once I've started a project on one device I'm then restricted to just that device. Please add sync ASAP!.Version: 2.5

Great App!Update: Thank you for your response and clearing that up. And, you were right, so I amend my review. It is a great app. Period. Great app! Love the outlining capabilities. However, changing characters and locations once you’ve made a scene card isn’t possible. Is this a glitch because it would make sense for a writer to have the option to change things or simply correct a mistake. Other than this small concern, this is a very great app. Please check into this please..Version: 4.10.3

Amazing tool for any writer or noviceThis app is great. It has everything broken down into sections so you can write in any order you wish. Plug things in as you go and see your work come together! Amazing customer service too. After the last update it was crashing for me but when I emailed them they had it fixed within 24 hrs and probably would have sooner had I replied faster. This app is worth far more than the $6 to buy it..Version: 5.3.2

Great app for any writerI tend to write large stories, so it’s valuable having an app where I can create and keep the whole outline for reference..Version: 5.0.9

Great App / Great DeveloperIf you are a creative writer, this is a fantastic tool to have in your writing toolkit! Even if you think you don't need it, you should take some time to consider its features and benefits. As a screenwriter, I find it is excellent for helping me outline solid stories with rich and well developed plots and characters. It goes beyond just “fill in the blanks” and encourages you to consider the “why” behind your creative choices. This app can save you countless hours of rewrites by helping you lay a solid foundation to build your story on. The developer also cares about their customers and is very responsive to resolving issues. Story Planner is an essential part of my creative writing process and I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a tool to assist them with story development. Happy writing!.Version: 5.1

Big OofIncredible just how much you’re actually getting with this app. It’s completely saved my project from development hell and months of agonising and procrastinating. Legit can’t thank devs enough!.Version: 5.2.6

Excellent story boarding program for writers and more!I got this because I struggle to keep focused on projects. I recently started a small indie game group with some friends called Team Pantsu and although the writing for our first game is complete, the more narrative driven games were too complex to hold on paper alone. This program helps a lot, giving you an organisational tool that splits down to overall plot, characters and locations with extra space for added parts. This allows you, whether novel writer, game maker or D&D player to keep track of what is in your project and pick out any issues that you would otherwise miss. It certainly helped me with a couple of plot hole issues in 'Tatari Mokke', a game that comes out soon. Even better, it's cheap, especially compared to Scrivener, and still offers bang for your buck..Version: 3.3

Clear and simpleExcellent, stripped back templates to focus on what matters..Version: 4.6

A quick questionI’m being really dumb here, I’ve just downloaded the app, all the suggestions are there about how to build your characters, locations and scenes etc, but I can’t find a blank ‘page’ where I can actually begin writing the story itself!.Version: 5.3.13

A must-have for any writerI can’t believe this app is free! I have spent money on apps that are less helpful than this. The app allows you to record different details about characters and locations, and even provides a helpful guide explaining different types of characters, scenes, etc. No more searching through what I’ve already written to find out a character’s eye color. You can tie it all together by adding scenes. I especially found the chronological timeline helpful, which helps you keep track of when your scenes are occurring. You can also record other details including the characters, locations, and type of scene. The statistics are not necessary but I do enjoy looking at my top five characters and locations. TL;DR - Absolutely necessary for any writer. My whole writing process would not be the same without it..Version: 4.15.1

Really good appI’ve also purchased the MacOS version which is virtually a mirror of this app and works flawlessly. I think the magic of this app is in its simplicity enabling one to focus on the story at hand. Combined with plenty of updates from the developer ensuring confidence in the customer, this has to be the best in its class. Totally recommend!.Version: 4.14.1

Loving the update! Also if only i can access it on my windows computer so I can print my stuff!.Version: 5.1.2

So glad I found this!I'm an aspiring, young writer and also a visual learner. People always advised that note cards, post-its, corkboards and marker pens were the best way to outline a novel... and I found it totally aggravating and uncoordinated 😡 Then I found this app! Perfect for me to categorise and make a detailed yet concise outline for my WIP. Finally feel like I'm making progress thanks to your app 👍 the 'master cat' example is also excellent for newbie outliners 10/10.Version: 4.35

Useful and efficientI’m always writing and storyboarding but I don’t really have a place to keep it all. This app was perfect for organizing and maintaining all my characters and plot lines. Only criticisms are that it randomly closes- which isn’t too bad because it keeps everything saved constantly and that sometimes it’s hard to back out of an area I’m typing in to go to another area. Even so, I highly recommend this app to writers..Version: 4.14.1

I use for animation storyboarding, script ideasI am just getting into it, and I love this app. It suits my needs really well and I find other writing software a bit overwhelming since I am a beginner. I am more of an artist than a writer and many of the outline features are exactly what I need for hitting story beats that I can quickly see altogether, I don’t need formatting for writing a huge novel which most writing apps put at the forefront. Love this app for organizing all of my characters, major scenes, and tabbing between my different projects very easily. I would really love a video tutorial that goes through using all of the features in real time :) It’s intuitive now that I have it open and can muddle around, but I do love a good tutorial to make sure I’m not missing any cool features lol..Version: 5.1.5

Surprisingly a very useful writing tool.Though I am not usually a long term planner of my works, I have found that this is really good for on the go. Simple platform but with enough to make you think more about hat your writing. Very happy! 😄.Version: 4.3.7

Commendable: Existing Users Exempt From SubscriptionExisting users who had purchased the app before the subscription model are exempt from the subscription! This is incredibly rare behavior for businesses these days. I went from wanting to delete the app when I saw the subscription model to wanting to tip the developers for their acknowledgement of existing users. Thank you!.Version: 5.0

Great app for outliningI’ve tried a bunch of apps for writing and this is definitely my favorite. This app has been great for keeping all my writing organized and allowing me to outline on the go across devices. It’s also great for fleshing out characters, and I like that you can add photos for characters and locations. It’s also wonderful to be able to have as many notes as you’d like in the note section and not have to keep your research and ideas elsewhere. The app works well across devices and it’s handy to be able to add little things that pop into your head at odd times. One thing I’d love to see added would be a section for a timeline to keep track of world events/when scenes take place in relation to them for the purpose of world building and avoiding mistakes. I’m currently using the notes section for this, but it would be nice for such a timeline to be more integrated with the other aspects of the app (such as being able to indicate that certain characters were present at an in-world historical event in a more visual way than plain text allows)..Version: 5.4.2

Lovely little appLove it. Love that you can develop all your characters with photos and characters. Left a negativey review yesterday, but the developers responded instantly and explained and it was my mistake. But I can’t seem to remove that. Ignore the one titled ‘confused’ - I’m not! :-).Version: 4.10.2

Great Story Building ToolVery thorough story and world building app. Only issue seems to be when creating PDF’s, the formatting could use a little more work here. But other than that a really good tool..Version: 5.4

Awesome App with one requestI absolutely adore this app. The multiple story planning management has been so helpful to keep track of my stories. I’m big on visualization. I was wondering if you had ever considered adding a simple mood board function? It would awesome to see multiple images in one place to capture the vibe and tone of each project, to get inspired. Keep up the exceptional work!.Version: 5.3.3

Exquisite app!First off, I love that the app is a one time purchase. I refuse to download apps that require memberships or subscription pricing. That being said this app I feel is well worth the money and I would have paid more for it and would do so even now if they add in some features (suggested down below). With that out of the way this app is extremely useful for planning and gathering all of my ideas into one location with easy templates. First night after downloading I was up till 3am enjoying planning my book because I felt like I was truly making progress again! The app is easy and user friendly. My only suggestion is that it might be nice if we could choose more detailed templates for locations for instance. The other thing that might be really nice is if the devs could add a new category called events that would be where you can have events that might have happened in the past or future that people within the story might reference. Again though wonderful app!.Version: 5.3.7
