Halide Mark II - Pro Camera for Positive User Reviews

Very NiceHas booted the otherwise good default camera app off my home screen.Version: 1.5.2

The “go to” Camera app for iPhoneThis is by far the best camera app available on the App Store. On my iPhone 14 Pro Max, Halide runs silky smooth & I’ve yet to experience any bugs or stutters so kudos to the app’s developers for their great work.Version: 2.13.6

BrilliantPhotos taken through Halide are easily distinguishable. Controls will take time to get used to but it’s worth the extra minutes..Version: 1.6.0

HeyYea I can do it anytime after church or anytime.Version: 2.7.2

I read that release note…… so here I am with a review. In short, Halide is the most fully fledged camera app available on iOS. It gives you a depth of control and a range of features that bring your phone as close as is technologically possible to an SLR (and better in some ways.) if you are serious about smartphone photography, you should subscribe. It’s not perfect - hence 4 stars - for just a few reasons I’ve spotted: - no native quick edit functionality - no bulb or long exposure function - 1s the longest exposure possible - no night mode photo option - might not integrate with Lightroom as neatly as you might like But new features and improvements keep coming, bugs are swiftly fixed, and their update notes are among the best and most human (and occasionally funny) in the business!.Version: 2.14.3

Thoughtful MinimalismI feel like most apps and even Apple themselves have made the concept of minimalism merely a "style" or marketing tool, and it takes an app like this to truly see it as an ethos. The little click feedback when your camera is parallel to the ground, the ways the app gives you useful zoom previews when manually focusing, theres so many little touches that really help ease me into the concept of controlling a camera manually. Could not recommend enough (:.Version: 2.2.3

More than RAWI largely downloaded Halide a while back to use RAW. Even with Apple enabling ProRAW, I’ve stuck with Halide. More than creating the highest quality file, Halide is the closest experience to shooting on a camera. All the settings you need to shoot are available, without needing to dig through sub menus. On other apps I’ve tried, the clunky interface takes so long to go through that you can miss shots — not Halide. The Halide team update so consistently & are responsive over email and on social media. Well worth more than its price — wish the Halide team could have a crack at redesigning Sony’s camera menus!.Version: 2.2.3

Great app-terrific pricesHalide is like a professional multi-thousand dollar camera, but in an iPhone. Plus, at only 15$ a year, it’s a great deal for amateurs and professionals alike..Version: 2.11.3

It’s all about the light for meHi, firstly I am not a IPhone user. But I did buy the Haide full version for my iPad Pro 12” I love photography and I mostly shoot with my mirror less cameras. Though lately I have been drawn to how detailed and focused my Haide App works on my IPAD so much so my eyes light up because when I shoot raw in mirror less the camera does not have power to combine files Right off the bat Haide produces, of course I learned much and how to get the most outstanding pictures out of my small pixel camera and it comes down to high quality outdoor light with the IPAD PRO 12 for me. And if they ever added the📷to their platform that would be nice to..Version: 2.5.3

Best blend of professionalism and simplicityThis is what the stock camera app should've been. No tomfoolery, and a lot of handy features.Version: 2.11.3

Finally my photos are AWESOMEHalide has been my go to camera since the first day it was released. I am a very ordinary photographer (not the fault of Halide) but with the new Macro Mode I can finally take the type of images that I love. My first image was fantastic and I have been striving for this type photo for years. It was a macro shot of a flower bud about to bloom taken on an iPhone Xs. I previously thought that I would only get this photo with an iPhone 13 Pro. Keep up the good work guys..Version: 2.5.0

Amazing good & great customer serviceHallide 1 was amazing. Just found out about #2 and rushed to get it and found out it’s free for previous owners. Happy birthday to me!! Can’t wait to try it with iPhone 12 Pro Max.Version: 2.0.1

Amazing AppHonestly the best camera app I have ever used, if only there was a feature to change where your photos are stored or if you could make photos save to a specific folder that would just make this an absolute 10/8 👌.Version: 1.15.0

Beyond astonishingIt’s hard to imagine an indie app making your iPhone camera go far beyond what Apple’s own camera app does, and yet Halide manages just that. Whether it’s the slick UI, the power features, the remarkable speed, or their ability to support new functionality almost immediately, I have been impressed with Halide from the first day I downloaded it. That it’s also built by a small team of lovely people is just icing on the cake!.Version: 2.2.3

WOW!!I’m not a photographer, I’ve never really used anything more than the camera on my phone and that was that, then I stumbled across Halide by accident in the AppStore. I started reading the reviews, liked was I read and what I saw and thought what the heck. I thought it would be more overwhelming than it actually is, I signed up for the 10 day tutorial which explains in simple perfect English all the features and how to use them. Now I’m taking photos every day and loving it. The app is so simple to use and I highly recommend signing up for the tutorials if you’re a first timer like me and don’t be afraid to experiment. Well worth the money and definitely not something I regret purchasing. I love it, my only question is, Will we see a Halide for video app any time in the future? Now that would be really awesome!.Version: 2.7.10

Best camera app for iOSIPhone 13 Pro user here. The native camera app is excellent, but Apple’s image processing really cranks the sharpness, contrast, and saturation to the point of being a little silly. The cameras on this phone are capable of taking amazing photos, but the over processing can really turn a detailed shot into a noisy one, especially where foliage or fabric textures are concerned. Halide does what Apple should’ve - they’ve taken Apple’s existing image pipeline and cut out some of the extra processing. Deep Fusion and Smart HDR still apply, there’s still excellent noise reduction, but the haloed edges and unnatural colors and lighting are gone. The result is a softer, more DSLR-like photograph. Halide isn’t as smoothly polished as the native app, and there are a few UX quirks and bugs that I hope get smoothed out over time, so it’s not my choice for most day-to-day shots. For art though, it’s Halide all the way. Totally worth the money..Version: 2.9.3

Great controlUsing this app I’ve been able to take pictures that are just that little bit more interesting than what I normally achieve using the standard camera app. With the right white balance setting it’s also possible to take pictures with Fuji like colours :) It slows down the process a bit, but this also helps you consider your shots a little more. Very pleased.Version: 1.12.2

One of my favourite camerasHands down the best camera on iOS, and one of my favourite cameras overall (including all my hardware cameras).Version: 2.0.1

THE BEST but…Halide is easily the best pro camera app on iOS hands down. There’s a lot to like for enthusiasts and pros like myself. I subscribed in the past but didn’t feel I was getting enough to justify the sub. What I’d like to see is wireless tethering with iPad, better stability and faster operating speed. I’m on a 1TB iPhone 13 Pro (I upgrade yearly) and even with apples top iPhone the app is slow to launch. I’ve lost more images than I can count and often have to rely on the default camera app. I have a feeling iOS 15 is somewhat to blame here. If I could wirelessly tether, that alone would be worth the price of subscription. As one who’s helped major camera companies move into mirrorless I’ll tell you that the iPhone is good enough for pro shoots. I sold my pro gear a few years ago and have been fully on board with iPhone. Just need tethering to complete the what I need for pro studio shoots..Version: 2.6.0

Much better exposure control on iPhone XSSince upgrading to iPhone XS I’ve been suffering a lot from its camera. It is constantly trying to outsmart the photographer and its output looks like poor man’s HDR. Halide has literally made my iPhone usable again as a camera. Its exposure compensation works like a proper ev and not trying to recover shadows at any cost. Generally this app feels a bit cluttered and fiddly but I give it 5 stars anyway for giving my camera back to me..Version: 1.12.1

Good, but not great! This app is good. Gives you the freedom to adjust your exposure in a very simple way, I love the fact that I can use the manual focus which works well. The depth feature can produce some really good shots. I hope the developers will introduce the feature to adjust the shutter speed, if that is done this app deserves 5 stars..Version: 1.5.2

Simple but powerful interfaceThis app is well-suited for smartphone photography, keeping things simple but letting you quickly change settings in an intuitive way, using gestures and easily accessible on-screen icons, without a steep learning curve. Some users complain that this app doesn’t ‘take better pictures’ or ‘offer more facilities’ than other apps, but that’s missing the point. It’s a no-frills camera app that focuses on the experience of taking photos quickly and effectively and dispenses with fancy filters and effects (which, let’s face it, you can do in dozens of other post processing apps). I’ve tried many of the other camera apps on my iPhone X and whilst they’re all pretty good, none come close to the ease of use of Halide, which suits me perfectly and always gives very acceptable results..Version: 1.6.0

Restore function ????!I have lost multiple photos whist using the restore function . It sort of defeats the objective of capturing shots if you are not sure if you can keep them . Really disappointed and surprised it has such good reviews . I realise the restore function is to overcome an Apple problem but it has to work . Will now be deleting the app so what a waste of money.Version: 2.7.10

OoooooohhhhLove the new update, the new UI is fantastic and intuitive.. makes this already phenomenal app even better and more happy happy joy joy <3.Version: 2.0.1

Great balance of features and usabilityVery sweet app. Easy to use with pro results and it shows the people behind it really care. Also: I love reading the release notes. Thank you!.Version: 2.14.2

Outstanding app, except for a couple things…I’ve been using this app for a few days now, and I love it. It gives a noticeable improvement from the default camera app, even with both running full auto. The macro mode is quite good considering the hat my iPhone SE does not have a macro camera. The UI is very clean and premium feeling. I just have two complaints about the app: 1. You can’t swipe left from the Lock Screen to use Halide. I didn’t take a star away for this because I don’t know if this is Apple’s or Halide’s fault. 2. You can’t zoom in. Or if you can, it’s too hidden and hard to access, as I haven’t found a way yet. This seems like a basic feature that is well implemented in the default camera app, and I don’t understand why Halide can’t use a simple touch gesture to zoom in. They have a digital zoom in macro mode, so it’s definitely possible. This is what kept my review from being 5 stars, and what’s stopping me from always using Halide. If these issues are resolved than this app will definitely be 5 stars for me..Version: 2.6.3

Profesional app works well with Adobe work flows.Halide is the first truly professional level camera control app (full manual control &c. easily accommodated) I have tried for iPhone. Given it has an accurate watch app for remote shooting and it has a very useful iOS 16 Lock Screen widget, this app is ahead of many competitors. Halide fits perfectly in my work flow. I have iOS set to send photos to Adobe Lightroom for post processing and cataloguing on both Mac and iOS. I laud the lack of editing tools in Halide as I do all my post processing in Lightroom. Non Lightroom users can post process in Apple Photos. There is clearly no reason to have a bloated program with redundant tools. Needless to say the ability to shoot RAW (DNG) is greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work. I look forward to the addition of time lapse shooting in Halide..Version: 2.9.3

Privacy setting bugAfter a photo is taken by the app, the app can not view the photo if privacy setting is set to "Selected Photos". This is definitively a bug since a photo taken by the app is automatically added to "Selected Photos". I don't want to allow the app the see my entire photo library because I don't see a reason for that. Otherwise a perfect app..Version: 2.10.0

Mark II is a Whole New CameraHalide has always been the best manual camera app on the store. But, with the advent of Mark II this has been taken to a whole new level. I’m not a professional photographer. Instead I’m just a gal with a phone that enjoys pictures of beautiful landscapes. Halide, however, makes me feel like I could be. Having this app over the years has taught me so much about photography, and I’ve been able to watch my photographs go from amateur to gorgeous. Mark II does this better. The new interface puts all of that manual control within instant reach, yes, but where it really shines is the feedback. The new colour zebras and the new waveform display, combined with the real-time XDR have already saved a couple of my photos that I’d have otherwise unknowingly under-exposed. Combine this with all of the amazing stuff that Halide has possessed for years and you have the ultimate tool for manual photography on iPhone. Want a quick snap, however? Over the years Halide has got better and better at this, but with Mark II I can safely say that I’d reach for it in even more situations and expect decent results with little effort. All in all, I love Halide. Though I’ve owned the app for years, the new version was an instant subscribe for me. The team at Lux deserve so much more money than I can give them for the joy and learning their app has given me over the years. Thank you..Version: 2.0.1

XR Camera Dream Come TrueI’m a designer and DSLR photographer, so the camera features on my phone is a big deal to me. When I upgraded from a 6, I was torn between the XS and XR. I’d been gravitating toward the XR due to the colors, battery life, price, and better lowlight photos, but was devastated it only had portrait mode for people. I heard about Halide finding a solution to this problem, so I went with the XR and bought this app. I took a photo of my dog and I’m in love with its ability to pretty accurately map out data for bokeh shots. My photo went straight to the default apple photos app, and reads it as a portrait photo now so I can adjust the blur like I can on people portraits. The only setback is not seeing bokeh in live mode, but it’s no biggie and who knows what exciting features future updates will bring. Thank you Ben & Sebastiaan for using your intelligence, skills, and talent to make a camera like this for the iPhone XR. Buying this app finally made me 100% happy with my decision to get the phone I did..Version: 1.12.1

Great camera appOctober 2021 update: Got to say this is still an excellent camera app that is better than ever on an iPhone 13 pro. And Halide have done what Apple need to fix and given the user the choice of camera focus mode rather than forcing on the macro mode when you don’t always want it. Thank you devs. * * Loving using Halide. For normal shots and manual control it takes a better pic than the Apple stock camera software. I’ve taken the same pic with both apps on several test shots and each time there is a bit more detail. Just a cleaner pic. And that’s with both cameras shooting in HEIF format. Halide has higher quality formats too. Then there is the manual control which proved invaluable on a museum visit last week. Snapping those exhibits that were behind glass is so much easier with manual focus controls. No issues with the auto focus locking into the reflections with manual controls. Only thing Halide doesn’t do as well is the portrait mode shots. The background depth effect isn’t up to that of Apple’s standard. But I don’t use portrait mode that often so it’s no issue for me to swap back to Apple’s software on the occasions when I do want to snap one..Version: 2.5.0

A Review Written by a NoviceThe iPhone 11 Pro Max is my first foray into the iOS ecosystem so for quite a while I was just happy with the default camera app. Once I started getting interested in upping my camera game I was advised to pick up Halide and I haven’t looked back since. Even with the automatic settings applied the pictures come out crisp and the layout is easy to understand. Once you dive into the manual settings however a whole new world feels like it’s opening before you and even as someone who doesn’t understand the inner workings and possibilities I can tell how granular you can get with each shot if that’s your wish. Easily worth the price and a must have for any camera junkie.Version: 2.0.5

Halide keeps getting better! With each update, Halide keeps getting better — retaining simplicity with accessible complexity. It’s my hallmark against which I compare other camera apps. And it’s always been at the top! Thanks, you three. Looking forward to what’s next!.Version: 2.13.0

THE BEST PHOTO APP HANDS DOWNEverything you need that gives you control over the camera that you wish you had, now you do. I’ve deleted all of my other paid and free photo apps. None have the functionality and control nor the display that this app gives you in such a neat and tidy display that just works 100% of the time. Plus the Devs are constantly working on making it better, how I don’t know, but an update comes around every once in a while and it just makes it a little bit sweeter to use. Thank you guys and gals. Even though my iPhone 6 Plus may be old at least my pictures look great. It’s lightweight, but it packs a hell of a punch! I’ve had this since version 1.0.1 and have loved it since day one. I love this app is my favorite photo app!.Version: 1.6.0

Changed my mindI originally shot with the RAW image type on an iPhone X and wasn't impressed with the results - I couldn't get satisfactory results using various editors - it seemed like the information just wasn't available in the file to get a good overall balance of tones and colours. Now I have an iPhone 13 things seem to have improved and I'm starting to use Halide more - specifically for shooting RAW as I'm able to produce far better results than before. The files it produces also seem to be the only pure 'RAW' images from a camera app that can be imported into RAW processing tools like Capture One..Version: 2.9.3

Good, could be betterI’d like an Exposure Bracket mode, especially because we can’t shoot RAW for more latitude using the Ultra Wide lens. I’d also like a Pitch Level, not just a Tilt Level. Seems a bit basic for this price. The Histogram is tiny and almost useless. The one in Darkroom is infinitely better and would be a welcome addition to Halide..Version: 1.15.0

Best camera app that can be even betterI like the intuitive control of different parameters when taking photos. The app focuses on just taking photos without bloated features like filters and editing tools, which keeps the interface very simple and clean. I prefer editing my photos on Snapseed or Lightroom. The Smart RAW feature works quite nicely as well. However, it would be even better if exposure time feature can be fine tuned. First of all, when the shutter speed is low, the preview becomes so laggy. Second, the max exposure time can be further increased. Currently on iPhone XS, the max is 1 sec. But sometimes when taking photos for light painting or moving scenes like waterfall, it’s necessary to have even longer exposure time, possibly with a help of a ND filter for mobile phone lens. If such improvement is done, I would have no excuse not to give 5 stars..Version: 1.10.2

Enable focus peek by defaultWould be great to have focus peeking stay enabled on start/when switching lenses. It’s an amazing feature that can help get the exact focus since the screen is small and the subject is fiddly.Version: 2.7.2

Almost perfect but...Almost perfect but... Should have a slider or something to measure and customise white balance in my opinion. Maybe I'm using it wrong? Without this I'm using another app😩.Version: 1.12.2

Best photography app. By far!So just wanted to say great app. Amazing! I’ve tested a lot of different apps, camera +, pro camera, pro camera 8, the native app, Reeflex and camera m to name a few. Something about the way your app processes the proraw takes and the 48mp heic files is so good, that it’s even better than apples native app. It’s manual focus is also a cut above the rest. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have a semi-manual mode and for some reason I can’t get the manual mode to work properly when I’m photographing in heic format. I understand proraw but why is heic having troubles? But if you add a semi manual mode or shutter priority mode, this app will be perfect. Love the app!.Version: 2.10.1

Excellent interface designI started using cameras 35 years ago, and have never much liked the iPhone picture-making experience. But Halide has largely changed that - all the familiar camera tools are there, beautifully presented and intuitive to access. I never find myself fumbling for a setting: they just lie to hand, as they do on a good camera. One of the most pleasing apps on my phone..Version: 1.8.0

RAW CaptuteLove the quality from RAW!.Version: 2.10.0

It's been too longI have been waiting for an app like this for ages now, there have been a few apps before it but none that actually worked properly. I'm am really impressed at the level of control you have over the image, I know it's not as much as on a DSLR but it's amazing none the less. Really good app, highly recommend. (used in an iPhone SE 32GB).Version: 1.6.0

Quality RAW Photo app with a modest annual subscription feeI purchased to have my iPhone photography blend into my photo library along side my mirrorless camera. Shooting RAW with Apple’s Deep Fusion (over sharpening) turned off has been flawless for my workflow. Quite the day when it’s hard to tell a difference comparing a Canon body and dedicated lenses against a modern iPhone!.Version: 2.9.3

Issue with Raw files was iOS 13.0Issue with raw files not being handled properly was an system wide issue with iOS 13.0. It has been fixed on iOS 13.1. All in all I am happy with Halide. Now that I can save photos in both raw and jpeg formats, I have the flexibility of either playing with raw files or use jpeg as it is. Generally the results I get buy editing raw files are superior (better colors.) Darkroom integrates nicely with Halide, I with premium upgrade on darkroom was little cheaper than $10. Anyone with iPhone should have an option for capturing raw files. Until Apple integrates that in built in camera app, Halide is an excellent option. I like its smart raw capture more than other manual camera apps. It doesn’t offer lot of granular controls, but I like it for keeping it simple. ProCam 7 offers more manual camera controls, but it can get little overwhelming. Halide over any other manual camera apps any day..Version: 1.13.1

Too spoiledThis is definitely a nice app, and I love the manual controls to give me more control over what I'm doing. It makes a huge difference in helping me get the look I want. It's just that if I'm really taking this time to set things up I might just grab one of my camera bodies and do the same thing faster. There are two things I'd wish on this app: white balance off a color checker and to remember all my settings when I close and open the app. When I pick up any of my camera bodies, all the focus, exposure, and white balance settings are the same as they were when I last picked it up. This doesn't necessarily remember and I have to set it all up again after I quit the app..Version: 2.5.2

Not as polished as I had hopedHalide has an amazing reputation, so I was expecting something super clean, polished and perfected. But it’s not as I expected - it’s somewhat middle of the road in terms of camera apps I’ve tried. It comes down to little things, like small UI animation bugs, inconsistent icons, etc. Nothing catastrophic, but a bit surprising given is reputation, and I didn’t feel it offered enough to justify its unusually high price in comparison to other manual/RAW camera apps - many of which had nicer UIs and more features for a lot less money (ie. raw photo editing or video recording)..Version: 2.14.0

Awesome app and tutorialA camera app that is easy to use, taps all the capabilities of the iphone and comes with helpful tutorial course by email. I have signed on a paid members - thanks team Lux!.Version: 2.0.2

Shutter speed maxes out at 1 secondI bought this app hoping to try my hand in astrophotography with my phone. The app is quite intuitive but it misses out on shutter speed, one of the most important manual settings. Not sure if it’s a feature likely to be released soon..Version: 1.12.1

Top of the world!!! Nothing better!!!First thing first; I have been a user from day one. I started taking pictures on my iPhone as a hobby, but I had no idea what I was doing. I took a photography class in college and someone told me about this app and it’s been magic and great times ever since!!!! It’s frustrating to see people get on her and bash these people about their own misunderstandings of what Mark 2 means for mark 1. As someone who purchased the app early I still get to enjoy the features of this new app for no extra charge!!!! Most devs try and force you into buying the new app because they drop support for the old on, not these Devs. Updates until Dec 21 is fair. The functionality and ease of shooting has allowed me to take some breath taking shots, I have even started making picture books for my friends. I love the tutorials within the app, would be cool to have a section were you offer classes on how to shot with a mobile camera, It would make the subscription model more appealing to those who may not want to go pay more than the original cost and help to bring in Mobile users who may feel intimidated by all the features or just want to learn mobile photography, you could even offer a subscription for the classes alone if advertised correctly(worked in sales for a few years now, I know how to sell a product especially one this cool). Anyway 5 stars!!!! Amazing app and I’m looking forward to your future. Keep killing!!!!.Version: 2.1.1

Just a thoughtI am just a learner/ beginner or a naive user, I just contributed to the app as I my self is a growing person in technology so support is a must. But with that said how about you guys install presets into the app which can be use while taking photos like apples photo style not to copy the feature but with your range of thoughts you guys can install a lot of pre photo shots which would be faster for a lot of people who can focus on the shots instead of settings some time. Other than that thanks for making world better I haven’t used it a lot of being an engineer it’s always fun. Keep going and happy snapping 😃.Version: 2.5.0

Excellent upgrade to an already strong cameraIf you have Halide 1, you may need to delete it and download Halide 2 (for free) from the App Store. If you update, you may get stuck in a loop where you get promoted to subscribe, even with a trial. (A fix should be available soon.) The camera itself retains all the UX touches that made Halide great, as well as a bunch of new features that I’m enjoying trying out. It’s a solid upgrade, free for Halide 1 users. Definitely the top, or one of the top, cameras in the App Store..Version: 2.0.1

SuperbeBravo, j’aime beaucoup cette app et continuez à l’améliorer Ajoutez le zoom 2x Amélioration des fonctions en mode manuel Merci.Version: 2.9.3

ExtraordinaryThe proof is in the beautiful images that come out of this app. The slick ui means my images are focused well and perfectly exposed. Sharp, rich colours, flexibility to choose between processed .heic and raw after the fact. I wouldn’t use any other app, even the great new iOS 14 default camera app is worse. Halide 2 has earned its position on the lower right hand side of my iPhone dock, alongside Mavis for video. Count me as a lifetime subscriber..Version: 2.0.1

UnbelievableI just got both the Halide and Spectre apps and I am amazed at what you have done and the numerous choices that I have to structure a photo. I now can really enjoy using my iPhone for Photography with flexibility to take great pictures..Version: 2.11.1

Very good - very very goodThis is my go - to photo app, I use it semi professionally now, as a b-roll often. I recently went on holiday and decided to leave my dslr at home for safety and shoot the whole thing on my iPhone with halide - got some amazing shots didn’t miss the big camera at all, mixture of RAW and JPEG all were excellent. Macro works brilliantly- zoom functionality would be useful.Version: 2.7.10

Amazing Pro Camera AppHalide is the best camera app I’ve used, well worth the cost. Super easy to use as a point & shoot RAW camera app, plus intuitive manual controls when you want to dial in a perfect pro shot. Includes a great macro mode too, even on older iPhones. My only complaint at this point is I wish you could turn off the RAW album it creates in Photos - there’s a system-level folder now!.Version: 2.13.0

Looks, feels, and is, super hi-tech.Such a simple app, so beautifully thought through. Simple gestures, just the right amount of controls, and amazing technical features when you want them. The focus detector overlay (and the new depth detection feature) feel like science fiction. The level detection is another fantastic feature..Version: 1.2.0

To zoom or not that is the question.Well zoom crash now fixed. So app seems good to go, but seriously apples now had multi years to fix its phone problems, and they seem to get worse. It is almost a trillion dollar company, so what are they doing with all the money..Version: 1.8.1

Finally. Unlimited Potrait Mode on XR!I am a Chef and Take pictures of my food constantly. When Apple released the iPhone XR, it wasn’t a well known fact that the Portrait Mode on this phones camera only worked on humans. I was not aware until after I upgraded. I felt that Apple was making a huge mistake. Now I had to scramble and find an App that would bring back the unlimited potential of Portrait Mode. Halide does just this and more. This App takes beautiful pictures. It is so far above Apples camera App that I hid that one and use Halide for all of my pictures. However, one note to everyone considering purchasing this App. Research the App before buying. Go on their website and read everything. If you buy it and start snapping away, chances are you won’t understand what this robust App is doing and your photos will NOT look like you want them to. So read up on it. Highly recommended App! Thanks!.Version: 1.11.1

Truly The Best There IsI’m a professional photographer by trade. There is simply no better camera app for iPhone. The results in Halide are exceptional, and far exceed the stock Camera app..Version: 2.7.10

The best manual cameraI love it for the iPhone 10, just wish I could slow down the shutter speed to 4 seconds..Version: 1.5.2

Great but there is room for improvementThe app itself is very simple, but it’s also the best for raw capture app in my experience. You can tell it’s made by pro photographers and not just some random engineer and that’s what most times makes a difference. The interface is very sleek and simple BUT, there is something really annoying that I thought I would share... the app won’t remember your settings and since I only shoot manual, every time I open the app I need to start tweaking it to get into full manual mode and adjust exposure with the ISO controls. It would be great if you could just chose wether you want the app to remember you last settings and also more options such as min and max ISO range and shutter settings..Version: 1.15.0

Great App !!Great app but it would be greater if built with long explosion, light trail, night mode, and a video record option on it just like other camera apps. Aside from that. It’s exciting Camera app I enjoyed using it. Just a ish it built in other features together in one app!.Version: 2.11.3

Good photos, GUI getting better! It does help you take better photos - provided that you have an appropriate editing app to process them. I particularly like the haptic “nudge” when the camera is horizontally level. The downside is that the user interface is hard to use in places. UPDATE Aug 2021: happy to see that the developers have addressed the issue with the appearance of the capture format button so that it’s easier to use. Thank you!.Version: 2.2.7

Very good, but...I love this app, I’m new to photography and this is a little more than what I probably need to use for starting out but I don’t mind it gives me more time to get experience with a more advanced camera. My only major problem is that the depth feature is not made for people with glasses. When using portrait mode on the camera app installed from the get-go on my phone it works excellent. But when I try to use the depth feature on Halide It can't correctly focus on my face and blurs through part of my lenses on my glasses. Other than this the Halide app is amazing and works exactly as it is supposed to. Definitely, a five-star experience when the issue I have with the depth camera feature is corrected or when find the solution that doesn't involve taking my glasses off. Love it!!!.Version: 1.11.1

Fantastic!Being able to shoot in RAW and edit in Photoshop is far better than I had expected! Even close up using manual focus is amazing! And all with my humble iPhone SE!.Version: 2.10.1

Simply the best third-party camera appReally well done. Simple but powerful interface. Love the flexibility to quickly switch between file types and Auto/Manual modes. Slick histogram implementation comes in handy, too!.Version: 2.2.3

Cat ScanLux has the capabilities to create a brand new type of camera app. The shutter button (volume button?) would trigger a sound that captures the attention of cats and dogs. An instant AFTER grabbing the pet’s attention, the shutter snaps. The pet is therefore looking right into the camera when the portrait photo is taken. The next sound the pet hears from iPhone camera would be different from the first, as pets get bored easily. Literally, the same sound twice no longer captures their interest. A cutesy UI might appeal to general end users, but pro photographers need to take photos of pets too. Hence, RAW support and manual exposure and vignette and square aspect ratio are good ideas. Please make this dream a reality..Version: 2.11.3

Great but issues savingI’ve lost several shots recently because the saving to the camera roll simply failed. The image wasn’t in the app storage anymore and it never ended up in the camera roll. I’ll switch to using the app storage so at least I can extract the image later rather than simply lose it. I hope this gets sorted soon, wasn’t an issue for me until recent updates (12promax). Not related to storage, 60+gb free always when going into a shoot..Version: 2.5.3

Very good, but!Really impressed with the thought, user interface and image quality. However, it’s clunky to move an image (RAW) from the camera to Lightroom. Which is odd given the target market. As with all these apps I would love the option to store the images on the app before allowing them in to the photos app. It’s madness to upload 25mb of RAW image without being able to batch cull them first..Version: 2.6.3

Halide a good portable RAW cameraI know we shouldn't, but we all grab a shot and say 'I'll fix it in post'. Halide allows that functionality with an iPhone. It's a quality app that calculates and meters quickly and produces a RAW file. Recommended..Version: 1.0.3

My default camera app.I am a professional photographer and usually have some very nice gear with me whenever I am out. But, whenever I am shooting with my LUMIX S1R, my iPhone 12 Pro Max with Halide is also right there as well. Surprisingly, the iPhone will more often than not get the shots that I keep most often as people let their guard down in a way they don’t when a large lens is looking. Halide gives the quality and control to let me match the color and tone of my other cameras with RAW shooting, combined with features missing on my other cameras like zebra bars, color meters, and a customizable UI so I can hide stuff I won’t use behind a collapsible menu. Very happy to have such a great camera app available, and this my replacement for the built-in camera..Version: 2.2.3

New update fixed for meGood camera app. Works well since last update cheers.Version: 1.1.0

Halide is the best!Any bad review you see for this app are nothing more than user error and stupidity. Learn how to use the app properly THEN write your review! They have a 10 day course (one educational email a day) that you can sign up for in the app. It’s fantastic! I’ve been using this app as well as every other app by Lux, since 2020. And have been continually impressed with the developers hard work they put into this. Because of that fact, I pay for the subscription instead of the one time purchase. Simply because I want to give them more money for making and upkeeping a great product for a reasonable price. That’s how great this app is! I do have one request: please make a lefty mode for me and my fellow left handed freaks. The same thing— just horizontally flipped. All that to say, my thanks and compliments to Benjamin and Sebastiaan for creating such a great product. I truly appreciate this app in the midst of all the poorly developed applications by greedy companies with absurdly priced subscriptions.Version: 2.14.0

Love the app!Everything is good about this app, it’s like shooting professionally but I would totes love to have the depth portrait effect for iPhone 6 as well 😭.Version: 1.7.4

Well worth the money and cheap for what it isAn incredibly good app and I have managed to take some amazing shots with my iPhone XR that really do rival DSLR quality. Main problem for me is when trying to export to raw and save images to camera roll. If I click the share sheet and save image as raw, once done this takes me back to my last picture again. Usually scrolling me right to the top of my camera roll when I’m editing photos taken weeks before. Also would prefer if the layout mimicked the camera roll with the newest photos at the bottom. Plus when I scroll to the top of my images, if I scroll too fast it takes me back to the camera. Also no way to zoom unless I’m being dumb. Last thing is for when saving files it modify the original instead of making a copy👌 However most of these issues arise for me because the app is so good and I use it on a daily basis..Version: 1.12.1

Halide, best camera app everA versatile adaptable photographic app to get the most out of your iOS/iPadOS device.Version: 2.5.3

Spend 10 quid for a years worth of epic photosI’ve long been a fan of the app and the amazing people who obviously love making it. Moving to a subscription model was a no brained for me. The results the app gives the ease of use and it’s so much more powerful than any other third party app I’ve used. Kudos. Update. It just keeps getting better. New macro mode on my 12 pro is awesome. Means I can spend money on a new 14”MacBook instead of upgrading the phone! Love Halide even more now. Thanks!.Version: 2.5.1

Great app, easy to use and focus peaking!!Please add a video function so I can start using this instead of my default camera app, thank you!.Version: 1.12.2

I Love It!I absolutely love this app! Been using it since I got myself an iPhone. Halide Mk2 makes it even better. Although, I would really love to have dark app icon. Or an option to change it in the settings. Besides that, using it is very simple and intuitive. If you are buying this app, that means you know photography. But, in case you are lets say “scared” to experiment on your own I highly recommend the 10 days of mails, where the devs explain all the features you need!.Version: 2.0.2

Best Camera App, can be improved.Easy the best Raw and manual camera app. Keeps the essence of Apple intuitive design but allows for enough control that any professional photographers can use the iPhones camera to its full potential. The interface is quick and easy to understand and everything about the app seems to take full advantage of what apple has put into the iPhone... except 3D Touch. That’s something I would like to see implemented more thought the UI and more haptic touch feed back such as when using the manual focus slide or adjusting any of the exposure, Sutter speed, IOS sliders. If I where to be more specific, I think having 3D Touch for the grid layout gives the option to have a level indicator and pointing at the horizon or different grid layouts. Also when the pulling up from the camera mode the icons don’t line up with the bottom of the photo frame and doesn’t seem to look right. Also maybe have 3D touching the part of the view finder tracks and autofocus on a person or object. This feature seem like a reach but maybe have RBG histogram when clicking on it. Over all I think UI/UX could be made all around for a few updates. Having a solid and intuitive interface to work with then improving on the technical side of the app would be something I would love to see as the technology seems to be great so far. Easily the best app I’ve bought on the App Store!.Version: 1.11.0

Excellent camera appEasy to use with full auto or can set manually. RAW files easy to export for desktop editing..Version: 1.11.0

Update Release DescriptionGreat to see an app that keeps in touch with their customers and describes updates fully and I, for one, really appreciate the comprehensive information. 😁.Version: 2.14.2

NiceI'm loving using Halide and I'm hard to please. Simple but nice features and easy to use. If it had custom white balance and a time delay (so I could shoot from a tripod without getting camera wobble from the tap) it would be perfect..Version: 1.0.3

Great App with a Few CaveatsI really like this app. The RAW quality is fantastic and the manual control is excellent as well. The portrait mode leaves something to be desired: the quality is excellent but as far as I can see there is no way to adjust the depth of field the way you can in portrait mode in Apple’s own camera app. The developer’s website claims you can load an image shot in portrait mode in Halide into Apple’s Photos app and adjust the lighting and depth of field from there. The lighting can be adjusted but unless I’m missing something the depth of field cannot. The macro mode is cool. It defaults to 2x zoom when you use this mode but I get the impression this is essentially just cropping the picture. I don’t see much of a difference vs. taking a closeup in Apple’s camera app. If these features were addressed and implemented this would be a five star app for me..Version: 2.11.3

Not just the best app, but the best support too!Top-of-class app design and ongoing development. The app is responsive - and so are the support team. They speak photographer, so they know what you are talking about. It’s a breath of fresh air..Version: 2.14.3

An incredible app made by a wonderful team.I can’t yet use Halide to its fullest as I’m still on an older iPhone, but the photos you can take with it are brilliant. The controls and UI mimic a “proper” camera beautifully and its a pleasure to use. I love seeing apps where the makers obviously take huge pride in their craft and what they’re making. Keep doing what you’re doing!.Version: 2.2.3

Great Camera AppI was fortunate enough to support this development team when they first released the app and they have gone from strength to strength. The app is clean and modern looking while retaining the feel of a professional camera set up. An excellent addition to the native IOS camera app and highly recommended. Professional photographers will live the interface, control and results and in a world of monthly subscriptions I feel the price you pay for this app wether annually or monthly is a bargain compared to other developers that are shilling pure crap to the social media zombies..Version: 2.10.0

Halide on iPhone 13 Pro Max 1TBI have several filming & photography apps on my new iPhone and find HALIDE to be one of my main go-to apps for photos. I like the options available. The lifetime upgrade price is a little too expensive for my liking & should be halved..Version: 2.6.1

Super appTruly a manual photo app perfectly integrated with the iPhone 15 pro, the action button and the PolarPro grip. But... it would need a screen saver mode, which is essential for battery survival when you're out for a long time taking photos..Version: 2.14.4

AmazingVery good app amazing if you know how to use the settings properly good work guys 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾.Version: 1.7.3

Simply the best!Halide Mark 2 is, quite simply, the best. Complemented with my iPhone 11 Plus, together with my own (less than perfect) artistic flair, my photos are now amongst the best I’ve taken - and that includes using my rather bulky DSLR gear. I’m mightily impressed. Thanks Halide!.Version: 2.0.1

Great Interface the only way I see to improve is to add shutter speed adjustmentThe interface is clean and lets you take a photo quickly without messing around!.Version: 1.9.0

Easily the BEST Camera for iPhoneI have been using Halide for a few years now - and it just keeps getting better. The latest version 2.5.0 allows you to take sharp Macro shots on older iPhone versions (8 and later). All images can be RAW + JPG. This app can be used by professional photographers- the results are that good..Version: 2.5.0

Great app with great updatesGetting an issue when swiping to favourite a photo. Photos are stretched vertically and only goes away when swiping to another picture. Hope this bug gets ironed out soon. Might I suggest allowing us to choose which photo editor we can set as a shortcut instead of defaulting to darkroom?.Version: 1.7.1

Wonderful!I’ve been using Halide since release and it has never disappointed. The app doesn’t rely on any fancy gimmicks to give you what you need but still allows for great control over the moments you’re capturing. In addition it is beautifully designed and performs well. I can’t recommend it enough..Version: 2.2.3

Great but missing a few featuresReally like the app but i would like to see aperture priority and speed priority mode. An annoyance is in manual mode, if i touch the screen to help it focus at the right place, it actually “optimize” the speed and depth of field..Version: 2.10.1

Very impressive app!Probably the best camera application I have ever come across. Searingly fast and responsive, with the controls all enthusiasts look for. The Raw function is the jewel in the crown. Latest update is very nice, consolidating a very impressive camera app. Dig a bit deeper in the settings and fine tune the app to your own specs. The self timer and new reviewer now make this application a must for all serious photographers. The complete package!.Version: 1.8.1

Photographers must haveIf you were taught to shoot with film and know your way around a darkroom this is the app for you. Total control of exposure, focus and lots of other handy settings. Best raw photo tool available for iOS..Version: 1.15.0

Very reliable cameraAs someone with only one working arm a camera i can rely on to get the pic i want without needing two hands and half an hour setting things for the shot is very important. No other camera app comes close..Version: 1.12.0

Halide Portrait mode on iPhone XR reviewIt does work. You can take photos of anything through Halide in the Portrait (depth) mode. But the trick is not to actually use Halide for the final result. Use the depth button to take the photo in Halide, save it to your photos. Then open up the photo in the iPhone photo app, press edit and adjust the bokeh in the iPhones built in app. Halide clearly builds in metadata into the photo which allows the photo to be adjusted in the regular app. The Portrait button is active from photos made by Halide. Hope that helps..Version: 1.11.1

Great app, fair pricingAn incredibly polished and reliable app. I bought the original version and got a handful of new features for free, even though the developers switched to a new subscription model. Fair. Much appreciated!.Version: 2.13.0

Once Great App now hobbled by Subscription Issues.I really want to give Halide Mark II a perfect score and previous versions of the app were absolutely worthy of that. This App is the most advanced Camera App for iPhone- period. I also use Filmic Firstlight which is a great App however Halide is better for some of the types of photography I do (Macro). However he current version has locked me out of the App twice now when I’m out in the field beyond the reach of WiFi and Cellular Service rendering the App useless. I get a pop up to start a trial version and it never gets beyond that screen. I had to ultimately reinstall the app to fix the issue but who knows for how long until it crops up again. If I’m out taking pictures I expect my hardware and software to perform. If it can’t do the job I’ll be forced to look elsewhere..Version: 2.9.3

Best camera app I’ve ever usedThis app has it ALL. It NAILS the user interface, allowing you not just manual control, but it makes that manual control intuitive and quick to use. This app has FOCUS PEAKING!! This is one of the best things anyone could add to an app like this. For those of us with not the sharpest eyes, this helps a LOT. My only gripe is how long it takes to process each shot before you can look at it. I’m not sure if it’s the app or iOS so we’ll see if it gets fixed soon. Still worth five stars. This app makes my phone feel more like my pro-level camera that’s laid out and designed for people to make quick decisions about their shots on the fly. Recommended for any serious photographer wanting their phone to do more..Version: 2.5.0

Ecstatically Updated Review!Update: About a day after leaving my initially unhappy review, an update was released. More than that, though, is that I recurved a response to my review to personally let me know about the update. First: Brilliant customer service that they would reach out to let me know about the update. Second: The update fixed the issue I was experiencing; I now see what all the fuss is about with this app! I submitted my info for help via the app regarding errors I keep getting and got an undeliverable message back so at this point I’m incredibly disappointed with this purchase. The app gets great reviews but when I take a portrait photo, it can’t be recalled because of an error. I’m just gonna get the purchase refunded..Version: 1.10.2

Outstanding Attention to DetailI first purchased Halide simply to record RAW images, but I’ve grown to appreciate the care that the developers have taken in the interface. This is about as professional as an iPhone camera app could get. I’m glad these guys are putting in the effort, and I was happy to subscribe, to make sure that they can keep developing this app that has become important to me..Version: 2.0.1

Love it!Thank you, loving Halide so far! pretty intuitive, and I love the haptic feedback when locking into a level rotation :).Version: 1.2.2

Great RAW camera appThis is an updated review of my previous comments, wherein I lamented a couple key features that I thought weren’t there. I’m not sure if I had a “bad build”, or if I completely missed them (though I’m certain I spent a good 20 minutes trying to find them), but nevertheless after updating I now see them (I probably just didn’t find hem before). ANYWAYS. Great app. Easy to use. I’m looking forward to shooting with my 8+ a bit more when I’m in Europe next week, knowing I can use RAW and post process later without loss..Version: 1.5.0

Amazing!I’m new to IPhone photography and I have an IPhone XR “yes I know the 12 is out “ but that’s not an option for me right now lol. I poured over review after review on which camera app was best for me as a beginner and was instantly drawn to Halide even though I was Nervous I wouldn’t understand how to use it. I went back-and-forth for about a week and all of a sudden the mark two announcement was made. I took that as a sign since Halide had already been out for a bit. With only a couple days using the app I have to say I feel like it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made on the App Store. The ability have the raw, JPEG and the mixed image is amazing Because it gives beginners the ability to actually see the difference side-by-side. The UI is very clean elegant and calm and very much appreciated by a noob like myself. I’m still in my Trial period but my photos look amazing and I cannot stop taking pictures lol. Super excited to edit some of my raw photos this evening. To all my newbies out there who may be in a position like I was where you want the best quality but you also need it to be cost effective and future proof you will not regret Halide . Ben, Sebastiaan,Rebecca, Thank you for a beautiful product and Cheers to you all..Version: 2.0.1

Nailed it.I was already super impressed with Halide, bar a few missing features and some UI quirks. All those missing features arrived with this new update, and the quirks are gone. You just can not beat Halide for control, design, and features..Version: 1.8.1

Unmatched down to the tiniest detailI’ve had Halide since the day they launched 1.0 and it’s always stood out as one of the few apps that cared about craft and design. From the onboarding manual to the way they’ve thoughtfully laid out the interface and made it feel like a true pro tool. It would also be amiss not to mention the advances they’ve made in getting the absolute most out of your iPhone camera has also been unbeatable. It is *the* app for people wanting to push their phone photography even further, with more precision, especially those coming from a film/DSLR background. Lastly, love these people that make the app what it is and will continue supporting their every photography related endeavor 🥰.Version: 2.0.1

Tell me the price upfront.EDIT: I’m increasing the stars, not because of the app, I never tried it. I still think the pricing is too high for what it is. However, I gave a poor rating because I thought they were hiding the price. Apparently there is a way to see the pricing in the app store that I was unaware of. I increased the stars because I didn’t want to leave a negative review with a false premise. I’m also guessing they have decent customer service. $50 for a lifetime purchase of this is ridiculous. If you just put the pricing out I could have saved the time trying to figure it out. Eventually I downloaded it to get the pricing and deleted immediately after seeing the price. This isn’t even the top rated camera app and the other’s are all under $10..Version: 2.5.1

Best camera appHalide is the best camera app with so many options including those typical to SLR cameras. Highly recommended!.Version: 2.11.3

The near-perfect camera appOnly thing I with they would add is the ability to turn certain features off. For instance, I would like to turn off the haptic feedback for aligning the center rectangle when the grid is on (or all haptic feedback actually). Or the ability to turn off some of the icons at the top of the app and having the rest show up always instead of having the fidgety slide-down menu..Version: 1.8.3

WORTH THE UPGRADE!This app gives you total creative control. It has everything you need to take to the next level with just your phone. Gives you the option of shooting in RAW and developing them with its companion app Darkroom. ********.Version: 1.16.0

Love using it!A lot of needed controls, which the iPhone default camera app doesn’t offer. Being nit picky, but I would love the option to change the icon colour within the app which a lot of apps are now including. Thanks devs, love the latest update as well.Version: 1.7.1

What the stock camera app should've beenFantastic app! Enough control over everything without over complicating things. Also, the blog posts by Lux group are super educational!.Version: 2.13.6

Amazing appI love this app. So much better than the standard iPhone camera app. But I would love to be able to zoom in further that 2x. The iPhone camera app allows you to zoom but I would love that feature in this app..Version: 2.1.4
