✓ Most useful app on my phoneI am always travelling to new places and use this app more than any others. Although some little problems came with the last update. When doing a search it automatically zooms out of your location and when you find what you are looking for and go back to the map, the same thing happens. ✓ Un instrument essentiel pour voyagerDepuis plusieurs années j’utilise Guru Maps (anciennement Galileo) pour préparer mes voyages. Je mets des icônes sur les endroits que je prévois visiter, coucher, randonner et autres attraits des lieux à visiter. Une fois rendue sur place, c’est beaucoup plus facile de se retrouver, même si aucun réseau cellulaire n’est disponible. On l’a utilisé en Namibie en plein désert, la savane du Serengeti en Tanzanie, au Japon, en Inde, en ville comme en campagne. On peut donc toujours connaître notre emplacement exact partout, sans réseau cellulaire. Guru Maps m’est également utile lors des randonnées pédestres au pays. La quasi totalité des randonnées pédestres est cartographiée. On peut aussi avoir les courbes des niveaux. Vraiment un outil essentiel pour voyager..Version: 5.1.1
✓ Great mapping system on iPadMy only criticism/recommendations. It shows the grid reference very small at the bottom of screen (mgrs). I feel this should also double up as a button to enlarge on screen if needed in a hurry. If I needed to relay my mgrs grid I’d have to get fairly close to my screen to be able to get the grid. Even more so if I wanted to break it into 6/8 figure grid references. Additionally I feel a speed warning facility would be highly useful to alert me if my driver was speeding. The speed can be monitored but an adjustable, audible speed warning would be very handy Other than that, I rate the app 9/10 as it meets all requirements for my current role.Version: 3.11.3

✓ BrilliantI use this app in anger, at work. We need to be able to repeat test routes - Galileo is peerless and magnificent. The zoom on maps is fluid with excellent detail (POI and street name alignment is rather clever). Crucially, if you have like us an iPad 2 Mini you need a Bad Elf GPS dongle - really impressed that Galileo can grab the compass info and have the position arrow point in the direction you're travelling. The downloaded Maps were very stable when offline. I have very few gripes - one of them being that the icon types didn’t import from basecamp. They all came in as generic. ✓ Accurate Off-Line MappingUsed the free version for 12 months before going pro. We initially used it to import waypoint data bases for camping sites and general points of interest as a back up to our GPS when traveling. Obviously being an off-line mapping app, it provides a great redundancy. Our use has expanded into creating our own data base of were we stop, stay and visit. ✓ Tracks anywhere, even without wifi.I use it on my iPad in very rural areas. My iPad is not on a cellular network yet I can track my position, speed, elevation and lat/long. I even tracked myself on a plane going 300 mph. I tracked myself on a 4 day hiking trip in the mountains. I wish I knew how they can do it, but it works great. ✓ Essential tool for travelersI have used it for several years. I live in the USA and travel a lot there and internationally, especially in China. Guru (Galileo) has never failed me. I never use google, and rarely use apple maps. My first look is always Guru. It even works to track your flight path when in airplane mode. I walk around foreign cities and countryside, never worried about network connection. I tag my hotel, or friends home or bus/train station to maintain my orientation. ✓ Fastest map redraw...and moreThis app has exceptionally fast map redraw speed of its offline maps. Import of GPX files is easy and once they add Routing to Galileo (Guru) it will be a 5 Star App. UPDATED: Turn-by-turn was added and works flawlessly offline. Did I mention the maps? They are the best map implementation of any mobile nav app - OSM or proprietary maps - and I've tried them all! I travel the world and have the world's OSM maps on my phone - 69GB!!! I was really impressed that I can actually follow public footpaths in the British countryside which includes farmer's fields and small towns where cell signal is non existent. ✓ Personal MappingThis is an amazing app, one of the great things is to store routes and places in folders, so a holiday trip for example can have all the hotels, walking routes all saved in a folder which can be toggled on or off or individually. Look back at previous holidays etc. So like a real map but you can mark unmarked and remark. You can go from point A to B and then save as a route marked on a map so you can navigate by simply looking at the blue dot and the route. The folder feature means I use it as an address book with built in maps rather than the apps address. You can even add a phone number and any other details to the 2 text fields name and details. What’s lacking is the map seem to be pulled out of a paper map. The visual effect of google or apple maps is missing giving it an old feel to it. ✓ Great GPX logger, compact OSM mapsSince the late 1990's l've used various handheld GPS loggers, usually Garmin, for weekly hikes around the region and far afield. Galileo is the first app good enough to use a phone instead, for all except extreme or multi-day outings (where a phone is too fragile for dependability). It records GPS logs with basic statistics and has a good-enough filing system to accumulate and organize logs and waypoints. Logs are overlaid on its maps and can be color-coded by relative elevation or speed. It can't generate separate altitude profiles, unfortunately. Logs can be transferred off-phone using Galileo's cloud, or e-mailed directly by export once saved inside the app as a GPX or KML file. The maps are the usual set of OSM choices, some with topo lines and/or shading, and lots of labels. The maps are compact because they're in vector format rather than bit-maps. So one can download an entire large state like CA - or a region - in just a 32GB Phone. Maps for most of the world are available. Battery usage while recording is minimal, a full day uses less than half the charge in my iPhone 6s unless I'm constantly checking the map..Version: 3.5.11
✓ A great navigation app for hiking !!!I do winter hiking through the winter months, several times a week. I go to places where it would be easy to get lost. The app uses very little phone battery reserve and the combination of the comprehensive off line trail mapping with the satellite location feature is powerful in terms of knowing where I am located and what my options are for a great hike and getting back to the trailhead. The “two-finger” distance measurement, while not crucial, is extremely useful and unique to navigation apps. ✓ Excellence in digital mapping and navigationAfter over 6 years use when it was called Galileo, this is still my app of choice for use on hiking and snowshoeing holidays where I want to use my own offline custom raster maps together with Guru’s OSM-based offline maps for viewing and navigation in the car or on foot. The contour and hill shading overlays are helpful too. Large choice of on-line mapping and satellite imaging which is cached for viewing when off-line. The app’s use of folders and subfolders and the management of viewing/hiding routes and waypoints is exemplary. It can easily catalogue hundreds of these. Unlike some other apps, the importation of a GPX file containing multiple tracks (e.g. from exporting a Garmin BaseCamp List keeps them a separate. Works smoothly and is very stable in use. On the few times I’ve needed them, the Support desk has been helpful and responsive. All of this and it now supports Car Play. Awesome!.Version: 5.3.0

Galileo is less powerful than pocket earth but that's why I keep using it is not too cluttered and the offline search works well. Only thing is some maps, such as for Japan, are not in English.
