Star Walk 2: Stars and Planets for Negative User Reviews

Full version is not “full version”.Paid full price for the app so I could see now wise, then when I searched it on the app it told me I needed to pay more for additional content. Total scam. Do not buy..Version: 2.9.6

Cluttered and confusingI can only imagine/assume an early version of this app was simple to use. On loading the current version, I see a sky cluttered with silly graphical representations of star constellations... and plenty of stars that are in no way visible. This should please astrologists but, sadly, planets are very much second class citizens in this app; they’re only visible/findable if you enter their names in the search bar. Additionally, if the sky position becomes out of sync... it’s not obvious how to reset it without quitting, swipe-exiting and then relaunching the app. As soon as you calibrate the position, the compass icon in the top left of the screen changes to a share icon, with no hint as to how to go back a screen. Poor design... glad it’s free..Version: 2.10.1

No live satellite’s anymore! !What happened to the live satellites, very disappointing that this has gone missing as it was one of the best parts of the app. Now when I see satellite my live sky doesn’t even pick it up and I’m left scrolling through which satellite it could of been out of a list as long as my arm! ! 🥱🥱satellites gone, I’m none the wiser and left with a app that in my opinion has gone downhill..Version: 2.12.3

This app WAS great but now.... it’s a money grab!Paid for the full version. Now you have today for all kinds of supposed add ins. Like the dwarf planets. Seems like total greed to me..Version: 2.11.12

DO NOT BUY. BROKEN APP.Bought the 3.99 DLC, only for the app to not work at all. All I get is a splash screen and some music. What a waste of money..Version: 2.11.12

Battery drainI love the app awesome features but for some reason it’s been draining my iPhone X battery. The only thing the app is running is the widget ?.Version: 2.7.4

Ads in the notifications? No. Just no.I used to enjoy getting notifications of events in the night sky. So tonight I eagerly looks to see what new event was happening but was instead presented with an ad trying to sell me something. If I have paid for a product I expect no ads. None. Ever. Without exception. I didn’t even read what they were pushing, notifications have been completely disabled, and with that this app will now gather dust on the back pages of my phone with the other disappointments until I delete it to free up space. Great marketing idea, not only did you not sell me anything, you’ve lost another customer, and how’s this review doing for your reputation? Shame..Version: 2.8.6

Northern hemisphere centricProbably good for the Northern Hemisphere not much use down under. The stars are ok, but all the notifications are for Northern Hemisphere events. Just about as annoying as the American dictionary used for this keyboard. Stopped my subscription.Version: 2.11.9

Not what I expectedThought it would be easier to find out about the night sky. Used to have an app that you could scroll into to look at stars closer. This doesn’t let you do it. Rather annoying to use really especially when they advertise all things it does so you pay the £2.99 and find out you have to pay an extra £2.99 to get what you really wanted. Bit of a con!.Version: 2.8

Great Except SatellitesDownloaded this app and all the add-on content as we are currently staying in a “Dark Sky” location. The star, constellations, visuals are all excellent. Why three stars? The app only seems to know about one satellite. Over the past 4 nights we have counted approximately 20 satellite objects each night, confirming with other online sources. The only one that ever showed was Tiangong. That satellite showed reliably on multiple nights. Considering most resources claim 8,000 or so sats orbiting the earth, and this app claiming to know more than 10k, I am at a loss why more are not being identified. Read through the manual checking for settings, and did not find anything “off” or set incorrectly. I then deleted and reinstalled. No change. Correct me if I am missing something here, please. Love this app, but disappointed in this aspect..Version: 2.13.2

Not worth itWanted an app that I could point to the sky with my kids and it would tell us what was in the sky but this app just tell you horoscope ones and I really don’t feel it’s accurate at all in Canada. Will delete it.Version: 2.12.3

AVOID THIS APP Very disappointed just a money-making scamI Bought this thinking it would be a good upgrade from the original but as soon as I paid I was asked to pay again for the features listed in the original advertisement. I paid as it said satellite tracking but the reality is there are only about six satellites it tracks if you want more then its subscription time in a different app. Totally disappointed and I WANT MY MONEY BACK ! I STILL WANT MY MONEY BACK ITS A CON ! You have the audacity to contact me trying to justify your scam but not offer me a refund ! And STILL WAITING FOR MY MONEY BACK !.Version: 2.8.2

First app more reliableLiked the first app better. This Skywalk 2 does its own thing, you track across the sky find what you want next thing the screen keeps moving then drops below horizon. Does not always show what your looking at, how can it not see Venus when it’s glaring at me in the night sky. Getting annoyed with it now of no help at all. Would prefer the old one back..Version: 2.9.4

TerribleTerrible, shuts down in cold weather.Version: 2.5.0

Overpriced and bad !DO NOT BUY!I bought this app to see the NEOWISE comet and after I get in and type it up it says I have to PAY ANOTHER 4 DOLLARS to see its location !!!DO NOT BUY THIS APP THERE ARE WAY BETTER FREE STAR TRACKERS!!!.Version: 2.9.6

Neowise cometVery disappointed in the app. I paid $4 and I point to the sky and all it shows me is the horoscope stars etc but is not mentioning or showing the comet at all. All this app wants is for me to pay another $4 for add one.Version: 2.9.6

Wish I could return itI had this open for less than 10 minutes, but apparently that was too long to return it. The music was annoying, but easy to turn off. The sound effects were overdone, but easy to turn off. The constellation images were over the top, and they have animations that shimmer and sparkle when you pan around the sky. They are very distracting and can make the stars of the constellations difficult to see and identify. I couldn’t turn off the sparkle. One option in the settings looked promising, but it didn’t do anything that I could identify. Most annoying is that the app requires an additional in-app purchase for more than a very limited discussion of simple things like individual planets. That isn’t clear here In the App Store. Fortunately this is partly corrected by a button that links directly to Wikipedia. After playing with it some more, I found the setting to “dial down” the animated constellation images. But even the simple stick figures are animated, disappearing and redrawing (note: not “reappearing”) as I pan through the sky. Someone might find that entertaining for a few minutes sitting at their desk, but the feature makes it difficult to compare to the night sky. I’m still very annoyed that an in-app purchase is required to see full content. The jury is still out on notifications..Version: 2.8.3

Cool but have encountered some errorsI really enjoy this app, I love space and seeing all the different constellations and learning about new stuff fascinated me, however I got a notification about a solar eclipse today, and went outside to check it out, and getting confused as there were no signs of an eclipse, I checked the app and sure enough it visually showed there was an eclipse so I checked my location and saw I was in the correct location (I even tried different towns near my city) I then noticed the app said that the eclipse wouldn’t be visible here but it would be in Argentina and Chile, but the app visually showed it being visible in my location, I also checked news sources and they all said it wouldn’t be visible in North America, maybe something went wrong with the tracking, but just wanted the developers to know!.Version: 2.8.4

Greed. Vito won’t let you share with your family. Hide behind Apple policy.Bought this and the in-app extra since I felt I was missing too much content with the baseline purchase. Looks pretty, though I haven’t seen Sky Safari 6 Pro yet to compare. I politely contacted Vito Technologies, the Solar Walk 2 app creator, asking how to share via Family Sharing with my son on his iPad. The answer was that in-app purchases aren’t shareable and that I need to invest my $15 of in-app purchases (for Solar Walk 2 and Star Walk 2) 4 times, one for each family member. I asked the rep if I should similarly also buy four telescopes, one for me, one for my wife and two children. No response. Just greed and arrogance. They aren’t the only company that hide behind the “in-app purchase excuse” to circumvent Family Sharing, but let’s boycott family-unfriendly apps like this one. When Vito Technologies become obsolete they need only look at the mirror to determine cause. Good riddance..Version: 2.7.1

I don’t know what to thinkThis app looks amazing without a doubt but kind of annoying how I pay 5Aud just to have to pay an extra 5Aud to learn more about what we take for granted.Version: 2.11.2

Request to allow for recalibration!I love this app. I loved its predecessor too. But I'm getting increasingly frustrated at the app's inability to recalibrate. I tried using it this morning to show my 3-yr-old that Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, and Pluto were all in a line (more or less) but had to shift my phone a good six inches to the left to get it to display. I was trying to use the moon as a large visual reference, and no dice. I tried closing the app and relaunching when I got to work, this time using the sun as an easy reference point, and still nothing. I seem to recall that I could recalibrate the original Star Walk whenever I felt it was necessary, and now I can't find anything that lets me even check calibration settings. Extremely frustrating. This app is otherwise totally worth the cost, if I could get it to function!.Version: 2.7.6

Date time. Very unintuitiveI got this got the widget. I widget says moon out tonight. I tap on widget. It shows grid of planetary bodies. It says moon close to Mars. The other widget says poor visibility. This should be on this page Tapping on moon does nothing Have to go search for moon manually. Its below horizon so I try and change the time Tapping on hour and minute does nothing. After a number of attempts notice vey faint scroll bar on right hand side. Works for hours and mins fine. I want to check tomorrow so tap on day. Try and drag on scroll bar slightly and it spins off madly and pick random date in future. Very hard to just jump one day. And you also got to wait while sky does it time machine star trails to catch up Might be all explained in help or walkthrough could not see one..Version: 2.11.3

DishonestPaid ‘twice’ for it and still don’t get all the features. And the compass feature is about as accurate as a drunk taxi driver..Version: 2.11.12

Money grab scam. Worthless.Bought it for $4 to see Neowise, when I got in it only offers the most BASIC none sense and when I tried to find neowise it said I had to pay another $4. Not being cheap but tracking the comet isn’t worth $8 and maybe would have been if it wasn’t sketchy by making me pay multiple times. Better apps out there that are up front about costs. The way these guys operate are verging on scam territory..Version: 2.10.0

Gone downhillOnce was good, now flashy nonsense. I can’t seem to turn off the darn constellations. In addition the live update stopped working during using the app and it couldn’t orient itself even after I quit and relaunched it. Time for a new astronomy app for me..Version: 2.12.3

Keeps crashingWorking fine but updated to most recent version and keeps crashing, re installed same problem. iOS up to date, iPhone x.Version: 2.7.3

Not happy with it allMost of the time is does not work I can’t get it to track the sky like others also really spammy The music is w. Looking if something more professional than this.Version: 2.11.12

Needs better location recognitionI would rate it higher, but as my actual location isn't recognised, all the object positions are out of synch, which is quite annoying when trying to locate and identify objects..Version: 1.3.1

Sky map good. S Hemisphere info poor.Descriptions and alerts focus entirely on the Northern Hemisphere. Working out how these things relate to you is frustrating and time consuming when you’re in the Southern Hemisphere. The star map is very good - but the app’s overall usefulness is less than it could be for us in the south..Version: 2.8.6

HorribleYou took a really excellent app and ruined it, star walk 1 was great, I still use it all the time, I was very disappointed with star walk 2 you've added bells and whistles and destroyed some of the original app's best features. Please make the original star walk available again, I recommend it all the time but I'd be too embarrassed to recommend star walk 2, it's trash..Version: 2.4.5

Nickel and dimeAdd on after add on already paid for the app and can’t believe the charge for information available free on Google.Version: 2.12.3

BewareI thought I was purchasing this app in one payment . but 3 times in the last 10 days star walk 2 has taken $4.49 from my bank account without my permission, for what I assume is in app purchases? That I did not want or request ! I did not even have the app open and it took money from my account ! . Beware . They just steal your money over and over - and it doesn’t show up in your apple subscriptions menu - so it took me a while to Even figure out who was taking my money without my permission ..Version: 2.12.3

Not the best appWould love to discontinue my subscription but it’s literally like pulling teeth to do it if someone could help me out that would be great..Version: 2.9.6

Could be great except…This is a convenient way to find objects in the night sky. However, there are a couple of problems using it on an iPhone. 1) the labels for objects are very small, and if you are using night vision, they are very hard to read. This is actually the primary reason that I am looking for a different app and will no longer be able to use this one. I cannot find any accessibility accommodations at all. 2) when I am able to see the labels, a planet label is often omitted in favor of the label for a constellation. E.g, Mars is not shown on the star map because it is under the label for Gemini..Version: 2.13.2

NiceI’d really like a lot more information about the stars in the app itself. Size, distance, origin of the names, age etc. Many of the stars just have a default description of a sun..Version: 2.11.0

Extremely Displeased with new AppGot the original Star Walk about 7 years ago and got many friends and family to get it as well. Haven’t used it in quite some time and when I opened the original app it wasn’t working very well, so I purchased the new version. I don’t know what has happened in the last few years, but the app is NOT intuitive. It used to immediately align with the skyline of my location when starting the app. I am using a 12.9 iPad Pro and have spent way too much time trying to just calibrate it to see my local night sky to no avail. This has too many additions and has lost its original ‘fun’ of being able to open app and begin to see what is above us. Sadly disappointed and will ask Apple to refund..Version: 2.12.3

Needs improvementsNeeds to be modified for more convenient use such as finding satellites which I purchased. Also I have a hard time getting it to work sometimes on a new iPhone 11.Version: 2.9.4

Not what I expectedA lot of information but couldn’t figure out the augmented reality/ live view at all. Disappointed i spent money on it..Version: 2.9.3

Had star walk and got the new version.Well so what? It’s all the same and I purchased all the add ons and they are pointless. For example I got the planets extension, yay! Yep the Pluto pics in its gallery are from another frigging century even though New Horizons just blew by only 6 years ago. So I would have to say that their lead time on picture gallery updates needs some work. For such an expensive app I can’t find out basic info. What’s the date and time of this years summer solstice? Nope not here. So you get nothing over and above free apps of the same type. I have paid for and used these apps for a decade or more maybe. Star Walk Starwalk 2 Solarwalk..Version: 2.12.2

Got squat for 3.99I paid the 3.99. Said it was a bundle. Got starwalk 2 with next to no features and no other apps. Almost seems deliberate all the different apps with similar names, and far as I can tell every one offers options but when selected I’m directed to a different one that wants another 3.99 🤨.Version: 2.10.0

Slick app, lack of customisationReal slick, nice aesthetics and awesome to have information at your fingertips for celestial objects. A bit disappointed in the lack of customisation for enabling or disabling certain types of bodies and no ‘bookmark’ option to keep certain bodies in the sky for quick reference..Version: 2.5.0

Good content, poor supportEnjoy the app, almost accurate. I purchased the All-In-1 bundle about a month ago, stuck at 89% downloading after all this time. There’s no support so...fml.Version: 2.10.0

😎Don’t like this version going back to the original. Have to keep paying for the same add ons. Where as the original ver is all I need, look and find objects. All the rest is just gouging money. Also too much astrology that can’t de remove, over too limited..Version: 2.6.0

Original Star Walk App easier to useWhile I appreciate the advanced graphics in Star Walk 2, one aspect makes it much more difficult to use than the original App. When I select an object such as a planet, then select the day of the month to advance it using the time line slider on the right side of the screen to see its position over the coming days, the display advances WAY TOO FAST! It is impossible to control no matter how slowly I move the slider. This does not happen with the original Star Walk App. If you just enjoy nice graphics this App is OK. But if you want to really learn the sky, I would recommend the first Star Walk App instead. I sincerely hope this will be fixed. Please!.Version: 2.9.6

Awesome App!Can't beat it for answering all the questions about the night sky that a few years ago were just pondered upon, yet never really answered. But now with such a clever app, all that knowledge is just within my pocket. Keep up the good work guys!.Version: 2.3.0

No zoom to objectsIn the previous version you could zoom into nebulae and see detailed astrophotos. Now when you zoom you only see stars, even with all the additional context installed. Disappointing..Version: 2.9.3

Full moon tonightI should have stayed with the basic Starwalk 2. I would love to have the camera on simultaneously..Version: 2.11.12

Bait and switchI have an older Starwalk app, so when I received a notification that I could view the new SpaceX train of Starlink 60 satellites that were just launched if I had Starwalk 2, I purchased it. However, when I followed the directions on how to view the satellites, a screen popped up that indicated this was considered additional content and if I wanted to view them, I would need to pay AGAIN. What a bait and switch racket. I would not have downloaded Starwalk 2 had I known I would need to pay twice to see what was advertised. Perhaps Starwalk could better serve their customers by informing them up front that simply downloading version 2 would not suffice, they need to pay for the Additional Content bundle to see what was advertised..Version: 2.9.4

Bit naff.So it was on offer for £2:99. I brought it but it’s totally useless. Just a bunch of stars with no deep sky objects at all. That’s another £2:99. Don’t like the response from sliding your finger across the screen not responsive enough. Clumsy idea who ever thought of that. Waste of money really is there anyway of getting it back.. you can’t beat stellarium. Supreme over this app. Colours are to vivid the layout is terrible and clumsy. Give that guy his p45 👍.Version: 2.9.6

Takes up too much memoryThis is amazing! BUT Only problem is that it takes up too much memory! I have to delete other apps just to put this on. Later I have to delete this and re-install the Apps that I deleted. I think the interface could be improved so users can select what components they need and dump stuff that is not needed..Version: 2.13.2

What’s TelRad?I found how to remove the shimmering constellations in Settings > Visual Effects > Constellation flare. Ideally want very light (adjustable) translucency for constellation overlays. Image and lines concurrently, but separate adjustments. I bought the full bundle for this, but still seem unable to use some features!.Version: 2.9.6

Really pretty app but too many addons ££It’s very serene and very knowledgeable However even though I purchased it, every time it sends me a notification about something occurring in the sky (which is a great feature btw) when I click the link, it asks me for a few more quid to be able to read the details! I understand that a quality app (which this is) really needs some money to keep it ticking over, but they ask for money too often in my opinion. If it wasn’t for that, I would have rated this five stars.Version: 2.11.9

Star Walk+Terrible! Maybe smarter people can figure this out. I really only want to identify stars, etc. but there is so much extraneous crap! I am not a high tech guy but you would think I could look at the sky, identify stars, etc. but instead, I have various confusing overlays and many still images none of which I care about. I only want to view the sky in real time and identify stars and other objects in the sky! So far this is impossible! I’m sure it is possible for some but not for me. I plan to cancel everything related to this App to avoid more frustration!.Version: 2.13.2

Used to me amazing not ad money hungryHonesty this app used to be amazing and even if it had ads and a paid version that’s cool but literally every time I click something a ad pops up now. Also why not just have the one app and just keep updating it. I don’t see the point in multiple apps..Version: 2.11.2

Not good. There is no essential requirement for constellation viewing. The app developer is too much of a cash cow. There is no essential requirement for constellation viewing. The developer of the app is encouraging the purchase of other apps he has created, and it is difficult to find a star on its own. I'm so upset that I think it's a waste of money..Version: 2.9.4

CrashesBought the app and it won’t open on my phone. It crashes every time. Want my money back.Version: 2.5.0

CheesyYou can't turn off the labels of the stars and constellations etc. This prevents you from being able to do a proper comparison of the sky in real time, or just admire the sky in its raw digital form. They told me they would fix this but they haven't so - one star..Version: 2.0.3

Stop with the ADS!!!!!I enjoy the app but have had reason to question their policy of pushing their other apps. A box asking me if I wanted to download another of their apps popped up right across the screen while I was observing the Orion constellation. I was told if I dismissed it, it wouldn’t show up again. We shall see, but that’s still intrusive to the experience and shouldn’t happen. Also a list of other apps popped up on starting the app. I was told this was a “what’s new” offering. Again a list of their other apps for sale. I just want to boot the app and enjoy the experience! Stop these peddling intrusions! Especially when you’ve paid a lot for the app!...not ads!!!.Version: 2.5.0

Great app but still an underhanded moneygrabI paid $4.50 for the app but then have to pay an in-app purchase of a further $4.50 to unlock extra features. The developer is essentially offering a free version or a paid version with additional costly upgrades. Seems a bit rich..Version: 2.8.1

Will not search/find locations in Canada.Bought all the StarWalk 2 upgrades, still won’t find/search locations in Canada. Even with full access to location services. StarWalk 2 support not responsive. Suggestion: take a $10 bill and a $5 bill and put them through a paper shredder. You’ll get the same effect as buying StarWalk 2..Version: 2.8.4

Good graphics, poor controlsGraphics show the sky and with tap Identify the object. Controls are a problem: to change date or time one clicks on the unit to be changed then slides a finger across the right side but it’s nearly impossible to get a desired date as a mm of movement makes the numbers (date, hour...) fly by too fast to isolate the desired one - eventually the screen goes bonkers - spinning wildly. Also, The menu’s “sky now” really means select object of interest, as it doesn’t show the sky now but a list solar system elements and their location coordinates . Also, the real time sky view requires the user to hold the phone up so that it is between the desire sky element and the eye-this helps the phone and app know where you are looking but prevents you from seeing both the sky object and it’s representation in the app. Holding the phone straight in from of you displays the horizon across the middle of the screen, instead of at the bottom. Yes you can slide the picture down but this freezes the view so that it doesn’t change when the phone orientation changes unless one taps a button to in freeze it. The app should display what the phone is targeted at but with an offset so the horizon is at the bottom and both the screen and object are seen simultaneously..Version: 2.11.2

Star Spotter Feature Not Working on new 2021 iPad MiniHello, I have been a Star Walk user for years on iPads and iPhones and never had an issue that couldn’t be solved with a little troubleshooting. I just upgraded with the new 2021 iPad mini -awesome. Star Walk 2 will not go into the Star spotter mode with the app giving a message that the star spotter will only work in full screen mode. I have spent hours trying to solve this issue - tried everything to include asking the Dev for help. App is pretty much useless on new iPad until this bug is resolved. Hopefully an app update will fix this. Thank you..Version: 2.12.0
