*read before downloading* app is great, customer service is notTLDR: app is great, customer service is impossible to reach and not helpful. If you need more stories do some research and look on Reddit. Stay safe out there :) The app is nice. It’s easy to use and I like how easy it is to look at different sizes versus the other apps that have “my size”. I’ve bought and sold many things on here and I’ve always had a good experience until about a week ago and I wanted to warn everyone about it. I asked to return something (the title said it was something and showed up as something else). I reached out to customer service and if you ever need customer service good luck… they only respond to your email at the max once a day, they have no chat, and every time I’ve tried to call it automatically says they cannot support me. Then I thought ok I’m done with it here, turns out if you want to transfer out the money you made it’s a $2 fee…. So I am just warning everyone to proceed with caution because the customer service is non existent and they are not looking out for you. They tried to blame me for my need to return saying I should’ve asked more questions, but the title was wrong, I even looked it up by the product number since it was new with tags and compared the name of the product versus the name of the listing. If you don’t need to use customer service the app is great, but when you do expect to get no support and no remorse for the support..Version: 7.33.0

Shipping services…TERRIBLE!I’ve only bought, not sold on here and love the platform but every item I have bought so far has taken just about a month or exactly a month to arrive! Sellers tell me they are using what Mercari says to use which is FedEx? It is terrible and really has me contemplating whether to continue using this app or not! I wanted to try and sell on here but I don’t think so. I do like the fast pace sales-just need better rules for sellers to get their items out! Or monitor sellers that have posted an item and ditched the app! I’ve bought things only to have to wait to get my money back because the seller is just MIA! App needs time stamp for when seller or buyer was last on. I also don’t like that a seller can cancel for no reason! Nowadays people have their items cross posted so again, have bought things here and elsewhere and then the sale gets canceled because they forgot to take item down on this site! This is the LAST SITE I GO TO if im really looking for something. That’s saying something. Improve and grow and I would be on here way more than EBay or even PoshMark and Poshmark is really bad with sellers being MIA for years and they allow their items to continue to be for sale-BUT-at least there is a last known date on app for the seller so like I said-I’d be here more if it were more user friendly and not just a GAMBLE when you spend money With wondering if it’s going to take longer to get her than if I was to order overseas! The app is ok but search terms are problematic at bestI use the app pretty regularly when I can’t find something on eBay or offerup but I constantly run across issues with the app from search results changing based on how you sort, limiting listing to a certain price if you sort by lowest price(even if you know there are listings that exceed the price the search is ending at when you’re scroll down) and even listings disappearing all together(like switching from newest to best). The other annoying item is searching for more generic terms but still specific enough to be for a specific sub category. The search terms are not yielding correct results like typing telescope yields 90% of the listings for binoculars, spiting scopes, etc. with no ability to remove key words from the search to further filter results like I can do on other sites/apps and the search filtering process just lacks the intuitiveness I would expect for search algorithms. At this point I would even request a sort by highest price just so I can find what I’m looking for quicker than having to scroll through hundreds of listing for low prices items that aren’t related to my search only to find that the app will no longer display the rest of the listings that exist for that specific search term because of the amount of $5-10 items that really don’t relate to the terms I’ve entered. Would also appreciate even more sub-category options to filter terms as well.Version: 6.124.1

Customer service needs improvement!!!!The app does what it needs to and works well in terms of selling. However, the customer service needs to be better. The one time I reached out to them was due to a bad rating I received. Mind you, you can’t see that rating until you’ve rated the buyer. They left me a bad rating claiming the product was damaged and used, which it wasn’t, but the buyer made no attempt to reach out to me to rectify the situation. Mercari customer service told me not to be discouraged and continue selling bc it’s just one rating. They should have reached out to the buyer and have them send proof of the damages the buyer was claiming. Their msging system won’t allow you as a seller to do so. Or at least let me comment on their rating in attempts to rectify the situation. Honestly, something other than we can’t do anything about this. What’s the point of customer service then if not to help sellers and buyers with things like this? Also, I have friends who have had their photo listings stolen by other users and they reported to mercari. Same response of we can’t do anything about them, just block them. Blocking a user doesn’t prevent them from viewing your listings, only from msging & buying. My friend was also harassed after reaching out to the person asking them to not use their photos. What does mercari customer service do? Nothing. Point is, if you ever have a problem don’t expect mercari customer service to help..Version: 6.102.0

Used to rate Mercari as the best but…Now they’ve added features to the app that I absolutely do not like. Firstly, they raised their shipping rates which affect both the buyers and sellers. With the amount of volume that is shipped out through the app, I know for certain that they can renegotiate better rates even with postal rate increases. Instead they pass it on to us. To boot it always defaults to the carrier with the highest option to ship (UPS) so I’m sure they're getting paid on the back end, making a profit off it. For those of us who have our own accounts with USPS and Federal Express, we should still have the option to use our own carrier accounts to ship. The sellers and buyers are helping keep the USPS and other carriers employed & busy so the rates should be lower. The app used to let us ship on our own, now our only option is to use the carrier and rates that they have defaulted. Some of us can get better rates than what they offer. Seems like the bigger an app gets, the greedier they become. On top of that, they now make “recommendations” for sales prices to sellers as we post an item, then if it’s not what they think it should be they say “slow sale”…no one needs their input. They’re getting a portion of the sale amount so why should they care what we price things at. It’s an unnecessary and annoying feature. I like the old Mercari much better..Version: 7.67.0

Mercari Ripped Me OffI downloaded Mercari after a friend told me about it. I noticed they had a referral bonus that when I refer a person they get $10 off when purchase first item and then I get $10 credit. I decided to tell a bunch of friends/family and we were going to do an outside white elephant party where you wrap gives and open them where you can then steal gift or open a different one. I ended up getting 7 of the people coming to party to use mercari. I was then going to use my $70 credit to buy a big gift and put into the mix to make it exciting. However, when I started getting my referral credits, Mercari froze my account. I tried to reach out dozens of times to get it fixed but then ended up not responding. Then when I got a item I actually purchased for full price $65, it was broke. Ironically, mercari also made it so I couldn’t respond to seller to let them know and I could not submit that it was broken to mercari. I again sent multiple responses to mercari through help tickets and got no response. The only option I had left was to tell credit card company not to pay until situation is fixed. Instead of fixing mercari deleted my account and now I have a broken item and no help on what to do with it. All my friends are going to delete their apps. This is why I was hesitant to switch from eBay. I also was planning on selling through mercari and instead of eBay as well but wanted to test it before I switched. I am glad I did a trial run first..Version: 6.101.0

Has a major flaw…..the pre shipment labelMercari is fine usually , but several times now I have encountered a seller who will simply create a pre shipment label for the item I purchased without sending the item. Mercari then sends me an email saying “get excited your items on the way” , even though the item hasn’t been dropped off at the post office. The seller then has 15 days to drop the item off. Your only recourse is to “request” a cancellation from the seller , who already is using a loophole in the system to trick Mercari , and even if they don’t reply they still have the full 15 days to take their time and mail the item. If the seller doesn’t send your item after 15 days then yes you can get a refund from Mercari , which can take up to 10 days to be back in your account. So 3 weeks or so after you placed an order you get your payment back. And once you get a refund they consider the transaction closed & there’s no way to leave a review for that seller to let people know they may or may not get something if you order from this person. It seems that Mercari has set things up to make sure the sellers don’t get in trouble for not honoring a sale and shipping the item. The person that made me go through this last hassle , who had a 5 star rating , simply re-listed the exact same item for a higher price. I will probably still use Mercari as it is a good place to find collectibles , but not happy with this aspect of the service..Version: 7.85.0

Most of these reviews are bought.So I’ve sold and bought on this app, and had horrible experience with the customer service on both ends. Even if you provide evidence that an item wasn’t delivered or an item was replaced with a different item. Even if you are in contact with the post office, trying to find a lost item or a missed delivered item. They will pretty much tell you that they’re not gonna do anything about it in a roundabout way. As well as providing photos of this. They will still fight to not return your money or side with a buyer that clearly switched the item. Their is a lot of counterfeit items sold on here as well. They make it difficult to report anything and won’t believe anything. The customer service responses are 90% copy and paste answers. Now I’ve had good experience on this app as well. There are sellers that are amazing as well as buyers on this app. The biggest problem is with this app is customer service and the ability to easily report about counterfeits or anything else that should be reported. Oh also the shipping service they provide is terrible. They offer this low cost shipping for $1 something that is supposed to be trackable it’s only track of all through the app and not through the USPS website. I even contacted the post office and they said they can’t track ether. So it the app says it’s delivered and it hasn’t they will not refund you. So you end up being out an item and money. Be very careful using this app..Version: 7.73.1

Going downhill fastI have been using this app for years. The customer service is abysmal the way they deal with customers and sellers as I am both is horrible. Shipping is insane they will blame the post office and say that they are in line with everyone else but they aren’t they are greedy and want more and more of your money while not understanding that it is killing their business. On one of the main pages it states for you the seller to price your items competitively which is hard to do when you are looking at insane fees. A t shirt four to seven ounces costs $7.40 to ship which makes it not even worth it to sell most items anymore. Other apps ship that same shirt for 4.50 or so and then you can bundle for another two or so until a few items become free to ship. I have been a seller and buyer for years have spent a ton more than I earned and still don’t have instant payout. I have to wait sometimes a very long time before being paid out other apps have this pretty early on. They also unlike other apps charge after the fact if the box you used to ship items makes your package weigh a little more. Other apps give you five shipping forgiveness tickets a month this comes in great if you want to ship your customer a little something to say thank you maybe an extra shirt or something along those lines. Again I haven’t used the app in quite a while due to these reasons it’s sad cause I used to buy multiple things a week..Version: 7.82.0

Easy to use, but most issues fall on sellerI’ve been using this app for years and have made a decent amount of money on my used items I’ve also spent a good amount on purchases from here. I would have to say that from the perspective of seller you totally get the short end of the stick. The fees just keep climbing, an unwarranted low rating for a sale with no merit is permanent, and they will not remove it. A real time example is when I sold a Harry Potter Lego set in my description I clearly stated the box it’s self had been damaged in storage and. The buyer left me a two star rating saying the item was great in excellent condition and was shipped fast but the box was damaged so they gave me that rating considering I had only sold about 5 items at that point it move my 5 star to a 4.5 I reached out to support to ask them to remove it using my original post that had !pictures! of the damage I specifically listed on post with **read before purchasing ** at the very first line of description and I was told that they would not be able to remove it and nothing could be done about it which I found incredibly unfair my page did not make another sale for several months after that with so many sellers anything less then Five stars does not fair well I ended up deleting my account and starting new all because of one person and I had a lot of items that I had to manually relist one by one which is very frustrating and time consuming..Version: 7.96.0

I Don’t UnderstandOverall the app Itself is great and works as intended. The only issue I have is if you plan on taking any money you make selling on Mercari and sending it to your bank account. I added my account info and tried to send my balance to my account. I was wondering why it was taking so long to transfer and saw a notice that said “Transfer was cancelled by Mercari” which said my account # was wrong in which I was charged $2 fee. I checked and my account number correct, so I decided to eat another $2 just to get the money transferred to my card same day. Transaction went thru but when I went to transfer again later it says that I cannot use that account to make a transfer. I added my other checking info in which the transaction was later cancelled stating my account info was wrong in which I was charged another $2. I had one last account I usually just use for bills in which I added my info. Again the transaction was cancelled for wrong account # which was actually the right info and I was charged $2 again. So from what I’m suspecting is they really want you to keep the money you make within the app and spend with them so they can get their commission fee. If you try and transfer out to your bank they will cancel the transaction so they can get their $2 fee. Never had any issue like this with no other sellers app..Version: 6.143.0

RATING SYSTEM NEEDS IMPROVEMENTI like this app and I have sold quite a lot of things on it. Even things I never thought I would be able to sell! However, out of all the apps I sell on (Vinted, Poshmark & Mercari), I do not like Mercari’s rating system. It seems flawed to me that people can give you less than a 5 star rating but not have to explain why. When I receive a random 3 star rating without any explanation, I would like to know the reason behind it! I take pride in having 114 5 star reviews so I want to do everything I can to fix the problem or know feedback when I am given a rating less than 5 stars. I would like to be able to have a chance to defend myself or figure out the reason why. So, a seller rates me 3 stars then blocks me so that I can’t message them to ask about it, or buy anything from their closet even if I wanted to. How is that allowed or even considered fair? It’s kind of an unjust rating system. Especially because you can’t see what you have been rated as a seller until the buyer rates you. You could be rated 1 star by a really rude, unfair buyer and not know it until you have rated them 5 stars. I feel like the rating system could definitely improve in that if you leave less than a 5 star review, you should have to actually write out a reason why and give the person a chance to explain (like on Vinted) instead of just leaving 3 or 2 stars..Version: 6.54.0

Active UserI’m a five star active seller/ buyer, with 140 transactions. I used to love using this app. I was on it, more than I was on Facebook, from what my Data report read. From what it was in 2016, to what it is now, it’s become really annoying. Sometimes sellers don’t realize shipping an item them selves, is cheaper than Mercari flat rates. I stopped selling, because of the interest rates that apply. When I first started, all the money I made from my sales, went directly to me. That was nice. The app constantly tries to get you to come back with small cheap coupons like $3 or $5 to an item, as long as it’s over $15 sometimes, before shipping costs. I’ve been kicked off the site in the past, was able to reach out through Facebook messenger and the problem was resolved. I had to help my cousin fight to get her money for an iPhone she sold, that someone stayed they never received. Mercari said they’d investigate. My cousin lost. I had to do my own investigation, write out all the facts, stating the weight of the item is on every receipt of a package sent. If the package was empty like the buyer claimed, it wouldn’t have weighed more than a pond for an empty small box. Crappy investigation on their part. With my help, she won and the money was turned over to her. It was a headache. Because of that, my cousin never sold on the site again. I think they’re too overwhelmed with how fast pace the app is, and even with all the updates, the site is still garbage..Version: 5.11.1

Hit and missIt’s pretty convenient to sell things on this app, but buyer beware. I’ve purchased eight items from this app and have had issues with three. One shirt said new without tags and arrived quite worn and covered in animal hair. After requesting a return via the app, Mercari told me to keep the shirt and gave me a refund in the form of credit with a 30 day expiration time. (Annoying but ok, would have rather had my money back.) A couple porcelain figurines arrived broken. The app didn’t give me a return option so I called Mercari (12 minute hold time). They sent me an email to which I could respond with photos of packaging and damaged items. Upon reviewing the photos they agreed to refund my card and did so in a timely manner. That’s not the end though, UPS sent me emails about needing photos of box, tracking, broken items, etc but with no easy way to upload them. Eventually just called them and gave them a verbal explanation of damage and appearance of box, etc. Third problem item is duvet covers for a twin bed with significant shrinkage (not noted by seller). Again the app is not giving me a request a return option so I’ll have to waste time tomorrow calling them. Hopefully they will approve the request. The sellers on this app seem to be more shady than sellers on the other re-sale apps I use (PoshMark and eBay). I’ve had minor trouble with those sites, but my success rates as a buyer are way better than 5/8..Version: 6.80.0

Great for buying or selling but not for problemsI have had a great time selling and buying on this app, good prices and friendly people, but recently I sold 2 items that U.P.S had messed up by putting two different products in two different boxes, so one got the right label but wrong product as well as the other person. So the purchaser told me that I had sent the wrong product ( not my fault u.p.s put the wrong product in the wrong box) so I tried doing the normal thing witch is refunding, asking for the product back so I can get this right. Once I refunded the product, the chat ended. So I couldn’t contact this person to further fix this issue. After not getting any help or guidelines from mercari on what to do with this kind of problem( like if they have to send the product back so I don’t loose my product or money) I asked if I could give them my phone number or address to make a proper shipping label. Then I get a notification from mercari that I made a prohibitive statement. So after getting no help from mercari On what to do, if the person has to send the product back or if a shipping label will be provided to the customer to send the product back and if it will be paid for I’m left with getting a warning and my chat delete. Thank you for no help and for me possibly loosing a product I spent money on and went out of the way to go get ..Version: 6.90.0

Wasn’t expectingLet me start off by saying when I was just buying stuff the app was perfect. Everything I received was exactly what I wanted and if it wasn’t I returned it no problem The problem didn’t start until I started selling so I’m in the military and just moved duty stations I changed my address yet I sold some shoes and they didn’t fit the individual and she returned them yet the address was still my old address I had deleted over a week before. So I never got my shoes back yet she got her money back. So fast forward I made another sale the items sold when I went to get my money in order to get an immediate direct deposit I need to verify I am who I am but to get in 4/5 businesses days I don’t which seem pretty goofy. So I went to verify my drivers license and they denied it because my address isn’t the one I have now mind you I’m in the military so my address changes frequently so driver’s license stays at my home of record which doesn’t expire till 2025 but instead of verifying MY FACE MATCHED THEY SAID THE ADDRESS DIDN'T MATCH SO I TRIED MY GOVERNMENT ID BUT THEY DIDNT ACCEPT IT. Tried a deposit in 5 days didn’t accept my account info basically I feel like they want you to use your money only with the app their costumers service is the worst they seem automated because I explain the problem and they give general answers or steps so now I have over 400$ just on the app and can’t get it and I just want my money so I can delete the app because it’s ridiculous!.Version: 6.118.0

Okay but be cautious buying used electronicsI purchased 2 Ooma Telo devices from this platform, both were defective. Sellers claimed the items were “like new” or “used” but “functional”. Upon receipt of the items both were found to have some type of hidden internal electrical problem that prohibited the devices from communicating therefore they were “NOT functional”. I would recommend caution to Buyers because of this. Make sure Sellers are qualified to insure the electronic item is indeed functional as advertised before purchasing. I will say that Mercari does have a purchase assurance policy and promptly refunded my purchase when notified. They only give you 3 days which is not enough time to determine the quality of purchased electronic items if they will require some type of setup process. They list a lot of already “Sold” items, outdated, expired or items no longer available. I found this to be disappointing when I found a great item I wanted to buy but the Ad was several years old the item was not removed from their inventory. Mercari should require their Sellers to reaffirm their advertised items at least periodically to make buying experience better. This platform would be great competition for eBay and other auction type merchants, sellers, traders, buyers & shoppers if they would fix those issues. Hopefully this App will improve soon if Mercari takes note. Thank you..Version: 6.174.0

Starts great but can end badly...I should start off by saying I loved this app. Yes, I got rude buyers occasionally but that’s with any selling site. Also this site has a lot of rules and regulations. Which is fine, just make sure you know them. Unfortunately I wasn’t aware of all them. I had a buyer that wanted to purchase from me. She lives in another country but has a forwarding shipping company here in the states. I was aware of all of this considering the buyer purchased from me more than once. I recommended we try Mercari because the shipping would be cheaper. The transaction went through no problem. Printed my shipping label and dropped it off at the pack & ship by my house. Only to find out later Mercari canceled the transaction! I tried to get my package back but couldn’t. The buyer was nice to pay me for the item that I sent. I tried messaging Mercari several times only to be told they don’t accept those shipping places. I even tried to pay Mercari for the shipping label used only to end up getting my own account suspended. No warnings.. no emails explaining that the behavior was against there rules. And out of 7 customer reps I emailed asking the same question did I finally get an answer regarding the package and shipping label I used. All the rest just emphasized my account was suspended. & this was five days AFTER the packaged got sent out. Good thing the buyer paid me! Needs better customer service & more warnings instead of immediately suspending accounts..Version: 5.11.1
