DRAGON QUEST for Negative User Reviews

No controller supportNo controller support while the original game has it? Only portrait mode and no landscape mode? This is a terrible port Square Enix..Version: 1.0.6

Music play crashFirstly the ability to play music, podcasts and the like should be a standard feature here, in a grind heavy game like this the ability to enjoy music or listen to a podcast to relieve the repetition of grinding should have been a standard feature however even through work arounds (entering the game, then using apple headphones to restart music) the game then hits a glitch with music playing the game crashes at the end of every battle phase. This a serious issue for a game of this nature and needs patching.Version: 1.0.1

GoodDated by today's standards, but a piece of gaming history which you can still sink a few enjoyable hours in to..Version: 1.0.3

DisappointedThree stars for a good try. But not the same as the original or at least dragon warrior the American version. The difficulty has been lowered. Monsters are easier to kill, they are not in the traditional locations therefore you can walk farther without danger. Your gear is more powerful so they are easier to kill. In addition, they all give you more gold and XP making the game move along a lot faster. Although I can appreciate that. They also give you a minimap with key loa toons listed. It almost feels like cheating. With auto save included they basically dumbed it down so there is no risk reward involved. You can play 100% mindless. Although this is the case in the original for the last 1/3 of the game when you have to grind for 2+ hours to level up. The beginning 2/3 requires you to fight with caution and conserve gold to get ahead. One misstep and 1/2 your gold gone and your back to the castle. May seem rough to the new guys. But back in the day it was normal for games to be rough if you missed stepped. Wasted 2.99 for a sub par experience of the original..Version: 1.0.6

Weird you can’t turn your phoneWhy am I forced to play it upright only i have a case that holds like a gaming controller holding upright hurts my hands I’m so disappointed that I just wasted 2.99$ plus tax to be forced to play a game in a physically painful format on either my palm or pinky finger depending on how I hold my phone I give it one star for the fact I can play it on mobile which is good and it isn’t unreasonably priced -4 stars because there was no thought in mind for the users preferred format I.e turning the phone to its side to have more comfortable hand positions.Version: 1.0.6

Not badThe controls aren’t great, and I can’t listen to music in the background. Odd choice. The colour palette could use some softening; the sharp colours and contrasts are jarring..Version: 1.0.6

The problem is the controls. / Le problème c’est les contrôles.Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Dragon Quest. I’ve played every one of them that have been localized in North America on consoles. I was thrilled to finally be able to play the very first one. But the control pad is such a pain, that I couldn’t even progress properly... It’s a shame. It looked awesome. Comprenez-moi bien, J’ADORE Dragon Quest.

Sorely disappointed once again...So I've recently purchased DQ II, and it kept crashing on me after random encounters. I thought to myself, "hey, it must be a one off thing, so I might as well try to download the title that first started everything off, hopefully that will work." Sad to say, I'm still encountering the crashing that I encountered with DQ II. Do not download this or DQ II until they fix it. It's a waste of cash. I gave DQ II a 3 star rating (due to the fact that I'm a massive fan of the DQ franchise), but no more. Disappointed yet again..Version: 1.0.3

Sound issueWon’t allow me to play my own music while this is open..Version: 1.0.4

Crash crash !!!!Just wasted my money on this game!! very good game but to many crash when i reach a level and the app crash and i need to do again im not happy!!! just lost 2.99pounds just deleted the game on iphone 6.Version: 1.0.1

The screen shots are doctored for a reasonYou can only play in portrait not landscape. Seriously SE? Can’t spend the extra few bucks to have the developers port this properly? The ui is half-@**ed if seen cheaper indie mobile rpgs with better ui layouts..Version: 1.0.6

Hated the over use of Old English...This is one of the greatest games ever made. I played it in 1989 and beat it, and have been hooked on JRPGs ever since. I have played through twice since on other platforms and loved it. However, the use of Old English in here was not only over the top, but just flat out unnecessary. I felt like I needed subtitles... The controls were pretty good, but I like an actual ACTION button to press. But the graphics were just beautiful - not too smooth, pixellated just right. I wish I could apply a language patch to this wonderful game so I could enjoy it again... a patch that translates Old English to modern English..Version: 1.0.6

Great gameCrashes quite frequently, but I still need to play it..Version: 1.0.0

Great game - keeps crashingI’m level 15, and about at the town furthest south, and for some reason the music will cut out every now and again, and when that happens I know the next monster I engage with or town I enter or leave will result in my game freezing. It was a great game up to this point, but considering the fact that you have to save at the castle (which I do think is a nice old-school RPG touch), it just isn’t playable. I’m going to take a break from the game and see if the issue fixes itself..Version: 1.0.6

Extremely dumbed down from originalToo easy. Fly through early levels without even taking a single hp of damage. Monsters drop way too much gold to leave even the slightest hint of a challenge. And the dungeon maps are not the same as the original. No challenge at all to this version, not even worth the time..Version: 1.0.6

I wonder how many reviewers replayed it as an adultThis game I loved as a kid. As an adult? Not so much. There is hardly any plot. The enemy sprites just get recycled with different colours. Grind. Grind. Grind. Grind. Grind. Just to safely cross a bridge. To grind. Grind. Grind again. Supposedly they sped levelling up in this version? How bad was it before?.Version: 1.0.6

Needs landscape modeThe game is good, if dated. The worst part to modern gamers will be the required grinding before you can beat the final boss. The game can only be played in portrait, which some phone users might not mind, but as someone who plays exclusively on tablet I find it highly annoying. The Final Fantasy ports are much better for no other reason than they are landscape games, which better fits how the game was actually designed.Version: 1.0.6

Controls just unbearableSadly the 4 axis controls are just the worst on ios, too bad don’t waste your money on this..Version: 1.0.4

Not badGreat for nostalgia but the color needs to be softened or something. Too much contrast hurts my eyes (ipad). Or could add an in game display settings to adjust to suit the player.Version: 1.0.1

No sound on ipad mini2Game installs, loads and plays fine but there is no sound at all, I have tried everything! Sound working on other apps, volume up, game sound up etc..Version: 1.0.0

Can't get past the first 5mins!Was looking forward to playing this, however I've tried to play this twice and both times it has crashed within the first 5 minutes..Version: 1.0.0

Nostalgic but a little disappointingI played the original Dragon Warrior on NES, and if you are looking to relive that experience then you’ll be a little disappointed like I was. 1. Graphics. This game is less pixelated and more cartoony than the original. I was looking forward to the classic graphics and was let down. 2. Difficulty. The challenge of the game has been reduced to the capability of children..Version: 1.0.6

DisappointedLaggy. The whole experience is not smooth. I want a refund..Version: 1.0.3

Could really use a couple new basic featuresLike controller support and cloud save so you can play on your iPad , pick up where you left off on your phone etc. at a minimum some way to back up your save so a move to a new device (Or formatting your device) doesn’t mean losing all the time you’ve put in..Version: 1.0.6

Poor quality portThe visuals are all distorted, the pixel art is rendered incorrectly..Version: 1.0.6

Save yourself the moneyRuns terrible, only vertical layout, no customization, poor quality sound. this is not worth the price and should be removed from the store till it is optimized.Version: 1.0.6

This is a great old game but . . .I liked this game but it only took me about 20 hours of playing time to beat. I booted up my old Nintendo and looked at the original Dragon Quesr/Warrior game and I found that the old Nintendo game was substantially harder than this game. You really have to be an idiot to not finish this game it is too easy..Version: 1.0.6

Kinda barebone-no option for original 8bit music or graphics -support for traditional Chinese but not for simplified -virtual gamepad in the way + very cheap + a classic + looks gorgeous.Version: 1.0.4

This is a fun throwback to my middle school yearsI was excited to find this port for iOS. “Dragon Warrior” (as it was called on the NES) was one of my favorite games back in the day and I was excited to find this port! The gameplay is good to great on my iPhone 14, but why can I not get any sound on my iPad Pro (3rd Gen)? That is the only thing keeping me from giving this 4 or 5 stars. I don’t know how much Square Enix still supports this port, but it is disappointing compared to their FF1 and FF2 ports for iPad: those were spectacular..Version: 1.0.6
