They just lack the graphical bells and whistles that I wish I didn't crave, but know that I do. This game comes the closest to playing with toy soldiers that you are likely to come. ✓ I like the game a lotBut it ends too abruptly and arbitrarily. There is no hard cutoff time in war, and having the battle suddenly end when you’ve wiped out the opposing forces and are 50 yards from taking their base is not realistic. It;s not a foot race. They deal with this better in the PC version of the game, but in mobile, they just cut it off. As such, there isn’t much time for strategy ... it’s just a mad dash to capture the base because you only get a few minutes and the troops move slowly. Having the pc game makes playing mobile frustrating..Version: 1.14

If you manage to finish the game 100% on every difficulty there’s nothing left to do after replaying the campaign over again. ✓ Great GameThe game is awesome. We get very few games like this due to todays sensitive society. When the developers are true to history, then they can make a game thats worth playing. Too many companies look away from what the fan wants and what the society so called “needs”. Hence why Ultimate General is a great game. Though I have had great fun at gazing through the battlefield and leading my troops into battle. 1:The first issue with the Brigades breaking so easily. Whenever im in combat with the enemy, I put my men and defenses in place in preparation for the attack. Ive noticed that whenever the men hold on too long, they falter. I dont know if its a in game problem but it has caused me to lose battles whenever a singular brigade of infantry, sometimes with over a 1000 men, decide to break. It’s frustrating having to change your entire plan whenever a large unit randomly breaks. 2:Another issue that I have is why cant the generals cavalry charge the enemy. Im used to to total war and being able to use the General to do calvary charges. Besides the issues I've listed, the game is a definite purchase and a keeper..Version: 1.14

✓ IT could use some workThis game is amazing, but I think they could add something more l. It lacks the addictive side of most game, it's like yea I finished the first level and you forget about it until the next month. This happened to me. Also it needs some different battles that where important to the war, like the battle of Appomattox. I love the civil war so when I looked up a game the other month I was like wow this looks cool so I got. It is not bad for 3.99 it could use some ideas the community has and put them in the game. Some parts of the battle is fun and your like sweet I'm winning then it just turns the wrong way. I think they should help you out a little bit more on the first battle instead of the 1 min tutorial and it says good luck. The first game should teach you strategy and other stupid that would make you win and be better at the game. Over all I like this game and I'm a civil war geek and I would buy it again. ✓ Great game but....Like the title says, here’s the but: the Campaign is too short. The developer also chose to focus solely on every individual engagement that took place at the battle of Gettysburg.... and they executed it well. Another thing is they could’ve made the maps a little more interactive ie; I shouldn't be able to march my infantry formations over rivers, but there is a cover system and you can utilize topographical features as well. My main gripe is for $4 they could’ve added a couple of extra scenarios. Such as if you’re playing as Confederates, you could march on D.C. after You win at Gettysburg... or something of that nature. ✓ General Admission to 5 Star GeneralThis is a pretty light & easy to pick up & play, Real Time Strategy game. What distinguishes this from most other offerings on the iPad or other mobile devices is that it isn't hexagon turn based strategy. While it doesn't quite have the same level of depth, complexity or control of the PC version of Sid Meir's excellent "Gettysburg" which is the most obvious game of comparison, Ultimate General still has a lot going for it. It is quite apparent the makers have gone for a minimalistic approach with very simple touch gestures & commands which makes for a fluid gameplay experience. It works pretty well. Even novices should be able to play with relative ease in no time. Overall a fantastic game & a must for fans of this genre. My only quibble is I wish they had sharper Retina quality text to make reading a bit easier but aside from a few bugs, there is not a lot to complain about. ✓ Good but artilleryI love the game but for a phone can you zoom in a little more. It’s so hard to control your troops, especially if you have bigger fingers. Also with cannons I wish you could seriously just tap an enemy unit and have them focus fire on that plot of land or specific unit, it’s frustrating when my cannons are firing at a completely different unit than you want them to. Also make their reaction time better since they are somewhat useless and don’t even react unless an enemy unit is literally right on top of them..Version: 1.14

✓ Fun but not replay ableThe game is as good as you can get on mobile but there are some glaring issues. First, the bugs. There are far too many ways to break this game and end up having to replay the same battle you just won because of them, my personal favorite was routing the entire confederate army while retreating to cemetery ridge and beating them so badly that the game didn’t end. Second, there isn’t much replay ability as there are only two campaigns with the same objectives time after time. Overall a good game to kill time but not forever..Version: 1.14

✓ Great gameThis is a great game but the problem with it is that I can have men on a point as the union on the third mission which I can not pass the reason I can not pass it is that I can have troops on a point but when the confederate charge at me and I have men on the point but then they capture it and my troops are still fighting on it and it gets captured and then when I charge at it to capture it at the end and my troops are still there but I can not capture and then I loss the battle which I should have won but I can’t because the point has been captured and I can’t beat it. But besides that the game is great and I can not wait for the new game you’ll are making.Version: 1.14

The campaigns are short, but actually highly enjoyable, because they’re not interrupted every two minutes by ads and microtransactions. The mechanics can be a little weird to someone who haven’t played Total War or Cossacks, but if you’re familiar with how formations and morale work in those, you’ll be quite comfortable. I’ve no doubt that the original PC version is much more impressive, but this is still Ultimate General. Worth the money in my opinion..Version: 1.14

✓ The game title says it allBeen playing it for about an 2 hours since downloading it. 1. I'm a miniatures gamer. It's the closest to that on a tablet I've seen. 2. I am "generalling" not futzing with a bogged down interface. 3. I'm not a realtime action gamer. Even though it's realtime the pace is not overpowering in that regard. I feel the urgency of the decision making a realistic way not frenzied mind numbing way. 4. The map is amazing. Having spent time walking the fields of Gettysburg in a detailed manner a few years ago, playing this game takes me right back there in my mind as I play. I wish I would have had the sim while I was there. Sure I have some "I wish the sim would do this or that" but that's nit picky and the experience is just too good for me to do that. Ultimate General Gettysburg is an Intellegent, well conceived and a completely refreshing gaming endeavour. I wish there more such games out there for true historical gamers. I want more...... A huge scale of battle on all of the levels, the ability to engage in whatever strategy best fits you, and a realistic use of the different unit types and even a level of portrayal for the reputed skill of each individual brigade involved in the battle. ✓ RTS StandardsFor WHAT THIS GAME IS, it’s S tier. It’s a full fledged, dynamically complex, stylistically distinct, graphically impressive grand scale RTS game (that you can play on your phone). I’m a huge fan of the PC original and it’s sequel, and I’m satisfied with what has been accomplished here. There are occasional bugs and no dedicated save option. The game sort of decides when it will choose to save your game as it pleases. The only major issue I’ve encountered is that the Union seems severely underpowered. I don’t think it’s possible to beat their third level, even on the easiest mode. A shame..Version: 1.14

✓ Ken Burns: The Civil War COME TO LIFEI read and read and read Ken Burns’ The Civil War book when I was a kid and still do now not only because of how knowledgeable it was, but the full scale battles the artists made that showed the entirety of each battles. This game feels like reading that book and I am in love with that, even if it’s a simple mobile game. I play the glory and Gettysburg soundtracks while playing this and adds to the feeling. My only complaint is that I wish you could play more beyond the campaign. It’s so good though I’ve now played it multiple times and keep going back to it to try out different strategies. I think the people that don’t like it are comparing it to the PC version which is ridiculous because most games are a lot better on PC. ✓ Great Casual GameThis game is probably one of the best strategy game apps out there. Unlike most strategy games Ultimate General allows you to use strategies that are very basic and fundamental like flanking or encircling, rather than having to understand statistics for each units all the units are really straight forward and each play equally important roles. Infantry units are just Infantry units with one not being better than another aside from it amount of men. Very easy to get into; makes you feel so good when your strategies work. However, not a ton of replay ability campaign is very linear and difficulty doesn't change how the AI acts, as far as I can tell. This game is definitely worth the 4 dollar asking price..Version: 1.14

✓ If you like massive battles this game is for youAt first before I got this game I wasn’t sure of getting it, but when I did and played it was good, and recommend getting it, but one thing that I kinda disliked was that it was more different than the pc version and I kinda wished they had custom battles instead of just the campaign, and probably add a little more to the campaign, overall you should get it. ✓ As an Avalon Hill Board Gamer of the 70’sGreat game... As a kid that grew up in the 70’s playing Avalon Hill and other table top strategy games with cardboard counters being able to simulate this battle on an iPad or iPhone is awesome. When the C64 hit the scene I hoped for a game like this with no “hexes” for facing. The simple movement, grouping, charge, ranged attack all make this “feel” like the strategic RTS that military strategists enjoy. I hope another one would be produced but I understand this app has been around several years. I hope you produce more. Definitely feels like a labor of love and definitely appreciated by those of us older gamers..Version: 1.14
✓ Fun and good AI opponentA nice game after just visiting Gettysburg. Tough AI but easy controls. Need a bit of luck to win, units break and run on both sides, not just fight to the last man. Good game for a decent price..Version: 1.13
✓ Great game but something to add.I love this game so much. What I want you to add is a Custom sandbox mode where we get to use any brigades in the Gettysburg campaign. I think it would be cool to put Iron brigade or Louisiana Tigers and other brigades against each other. Over all great game..Version: 1.14

✓ Played a thousand timesI think this is one of the most realistic battle simulators out there. Men lose morale if they are under cannon fire or away from their General. Canon are vulnerable so have to be protected but you also need them to keep moving forward to support the infantry. Terrain slows down units and also provides cover. Skirmishes can be deadly but only if they are not under direct fire. Every game is different and it’s great for 20 minutes on the commute. There is much more complexity to games than initially meets the eye. Please bring out more like this as I think they are great!!.Version: 1.14
✓ GREAT IDEA!!!I love the game for all it is although i wish it was the equivalent of the pc version. The creators are very skilled for using this game mechanics for a civil war game and it would be cool to see the same concept be put into a game based around WW1 with trench warfare, morale for your troops, artillery similar too the cannons and WW2 with beach invasions and defences, maybe even some type of air support system. ✓ Really got hooked!This is a great strategy game. Even if you are really new to this sort of game you can pick it up pretty easily. The controls are very intuitive. One element for improvement could be a better defined view for artillery units. Sometimes you may not crest a hill to attack and the unit is just idle. I really love the detail to historical elements and hope that their is an investment being made for a WWII version as a modern twist to legacy game Panzer General..Version: 1.14

✓ Great Game for the price!Once I realized this is the game I played on the pc when I was younger I freaked out! I loved that pc game so much and now it’s mobile! Keep in mind it is only a 3 or 4 dollar game, and it’s for mobile , it’s not a pc game it’s a mobile. With that in mind this is an awesome game! I am more than happy with my purchase and I love how strategic you need to be in this game! Just buy it already and quit reading in to reviews to much!
