FlyQ EFB for Positive User Reviews

Good app but it could use one minor improvementI’ve been using FQ for 5 years and found it to be reliable and simple to use. One improvement I’d like to see: don’t require the iPad to be awake and the app loaded when downloading charts. If I could start the process and let things run in the background, it would be a lot handier. Second, I’m concerned that the trend to more features and social media is cluttering up the clean, simple user interface that made the app useful. There’s only so much real estate on an iPad and my fingers aren’t getting any smaller. Throw in a little turbulence, and it’s way too easy to wind up in a function that I didn’t want..Version: 4.0.1

FlyQ EFBI have been a loyal user of this software for 4 years and found it to be the best app for the money that is available. As a flight instructor, I have tried a number of the apps out there and found this one works the best for my students and myself. They do their best to update this app quite often with the newest features, always trying to make this app easy to use, yet quite powerful in the features it offers. Keep up the excellent work, SeattleAvionics!.Version: 6.5.0

FlyQ EFB from ForeflightI was a long term foreflight user and for a long time had FlyQ installed in parallel to contrast between the two apps. I have to say that I finally let my foreflight subscription expire this month and will use FlyQ solely moving forward. There are still a couple things I miss about foreflight even though there are many areas I like FlyQ better, but at the rate FlyQ is enhancing its product, I anticipate those features will be included very shortly..Version: 3.3.1

Best out there!I ran ForeFlight, tried others. Found FlyQ, ran it for 12 months alongside FF. I truly think anyone who stays with FF is insane... FlyQ with it’s not more than 2 clicks’ is by FAR the best. The new weather heavy release is fantastic. The responsive of their staff to both trivial and serious e-mails is both prompt and efficient. Looking forward to even more new features soon! Try it, after a little learning curve, I’m sure you’ll sign up and allow your FF the lapse as I did. ( oh, and it’s cheaper too...)..Version: 4.5.2

Great for Civil Air PatrolI have used FlyQ for my personal and Civil Air Patrol flying needs. It includes all the tools I need to plan a CAP mission including grids and actually more search pattern options than I need. Plus they offer a CAP discount which is much appreciated. The app is very easy to use and functions well. Highly recommended..Version: 6.0.2

Outstanding intuitive EFBOutstanding form, function and fit. Hands down the best value EFB on the market. Version 4.0 is packed with user friendly upgrades and the user support for questions about the features is fast and informative..Version: 4.0

One Click EasyI started using FlyQ when I was earning my Instrument Rating. The combination of geo-referenced approach planes, approach plate overlay and position data from my Bad Elf GPS receiver made it easy to learn how the IFR chart products interact to support a pilots ADM and approach processes. I am a member of a flying club and have many chances to fly with other pilots to see how they use technology in the cockpit. My use of FlyQ is fast, accurate and effortless compared to the users of similar products. It doesn’t matter if the weather is CAVU or hard IMC, the one-click interface gets me the information I need quickly so I can scan the sky or my instruments, instead of my iPad..Version: 3.0.1

Intuitive and easy to useThis navigation app is perfect for VFR pilots flying locally for the hundred dollar hamburger and on medium range cross country flights. Easy to use, everything you need is one or two screen taps away. Flight planning is a breeze with the rubber band feature. For local flights, wind data is immediately displayed at the destination airport and NOTAMs are a screen tap away. Having tried FlyQ’s competitor, this is the right tool for General Aviation flying. And it may be the best value in its class..Version: 6.6.0

Great App with Continuous Updates and Innovative IdeasI’ve been using FlyQ since I got my private pilot a few years ago. Like many student pilots, I tried using ForeFlight originally as all of my CFIs at the time were recommending it. However, after trying FlyQ, I was very impressed. The value of what’s included in what you’re paying for is leaps better than what foreflight offers and FlyQ continues to update the app with new and innovative features, like traffic pattern entry display for VFR flying. If they still offer it, try to grab a lifetime subscription at Black Friday time as well. Otherwise, you get so much more than what you’d get at foreflight and for a better price! I will be a FlyQ user for life.Version: 6.7.1

FantasticI have had FlyQ for 3 years and it keeps getting better ! I am a Commercial Helicopter Pilot / CFI and have this software connected to a ‘Dual’ GPS+Dual Band ADS-B Antenna. It has surpassed expectations and can be connected to Garmin Avionics Stack or ‘Stand Alone’ . I use it independently in the cockpit and it performs Better & Faster than installed avionics. The In-Flight Traffic Display is better than cockpit avionics. The features for Weather, Winds, Traffic, etc are rapidly accessed with the two-tap of a finger and screen response is as fast as I can blink! I have compared it to other EFBs and will never use the others again ! I fly the heavily congested LAX basin and Pacific Coast and this FlyQ has provided me with much needed Safety of Flight and Situational Awareness !.Version: 6.1.0

FlyQ on IPhoneI use FlyQ in my Taylorcraft on my IPhone. Easy to use and intuitive. I can quickly change things as needed to look at different information. I have had a couple of questions that I emailed support about. Quick response was great! Looking forward to trying it with ADSB in another aircraft..Version: 5.0

3 year userReally like the app. It does what I need to do in a simple and intuitive and convenient way. I have watched the training videos and webinars on the more sophisticated capabilities especially weather, but don’t use most of them very often. I have nothing against the “other” app, have used it a few times.. I simple find FlyQ works well for my missions and is a good value for my needs..Version: 6.1.1

Always Gets Me HomeNot only is FlyQ EFB easy to learn and affordable - it is accurate and reliable. I use mine with an iPad /Bad Elf / Stratux. Returning home once unwisely got on top of a cloud base and was sweating it out. Fly Q EFB gave me accurate real-time info on what fields were VFR. Obviously I made it. Recently bought a fancy plane with a fancy panel. Bringing her home for the first time -the new “buttonology” got the best of me. Smartly I had my faithful iPad/Bad elf/Stratux autonomous FlyQ set-up. I’ll never leave home without it!.Version: 3.3.1

Excellent Intuitive AppI have been using this for about 4 years now. I started with this and Foreflight at the same time w/ 30 days trial and loved this one hands down. It is very intuitive to use for non-professional pilots, while foreflight is good as well but more geared towards commercial pilots. Over the years, FlyQ has come a long way and like one pricing subscription over “Chinese menu” for foreflight. I love the choice of multiple ADSB receivers over limited with other app. Hands down, great app that continues to add options..Version: 4.5.1

Brilliant EFB app5 star app.Version: 6.0.2

Very cockpit friendlyVery concise user interface which is not crowded with options as with other EFB-type software, even on a small screen footprint. This is a big plus when trying to fly the plane and navigate the EFB-user interface. Looking foreword to a weight and balance feature with pdf/png/jpg Dropbox/google-drive/mail upload feature. An inflight glide-ring might be a plus feature in a future release. One of my favorite features is the indicated wind-speed vane relative to the airport runways. A relative crosswind reference for each runway might be nice, however, the lack of that feature doesn’t diminish the effectiveness of it’s current function. I currently subscribe to both foreflight and Fly/Q. Fly/Q is by far easier to learn..Version: 3.3.1

Never takeoff without itIn the year that I have owned a copy of FlyQ EFB I have been impressed by its utility in both planning and executing my flights. Seattle Avionics continually improves this great product adding features and improving the iPad / user interface. I literally use it every time I fly..Version: 5.0

The only way to flyI have tried ForeFlight, as well as FlyQ. This app is better then having a copilot. Well, unless it’s a blonde co Pilot. You can get lost in all of the ForeFlight pages. FlyQ is intuitive. Easy to come back to your chart. Weather and airport information enlarges at A touch making it easy to read. The app includes tools that you have to pay a premium for in other applications. FlyQ now works with stratus 3 If you have stratus 2S, you’ll have to upgrade or use stratux. I’m not sure about German and others. I wasn’t sure about ADS B But now I wouldn’t fly without it.Version: 4.0.1

I kept FlyQ and dropped ForeflightI have had subscriptions to all the major aviation apps for over three years, and this year I started weeding. I dropped my subscriptions to Foreflight and WingX but kept FlyQ, FltPlan Go (which is free) and Garmin Pilot, all of which I prefer to those I dropped. FlyQ is the most simple an intuitive of the major EFB apps, in my view. I think any pilot could be planning an long VFR or IFR within a few minutes of first loading it. It is also easier to stay proficient with it than most others because of its simplicity. I do prefer Garmin Pilot slightly, but for many people, I suspect FlyQ is more useful and simply easier to use..Version: 3.2.0

Excellent!!!This application contains more than what I need. Previously I used the other one (F...F...t) but the price raise to the heaven. I evaluate this one and I think that it’s better, and the price is perfect, also always send a sales offers with good price. Works perfect with simulation softwares like Xplane, FSX. Important they have a lot of training videos. Also the support is a 10 for me. 👍Jose E Ortiz.Version: 4.5

Guns and ButterI’ve been using FLYQ EFB since v2.0 and contributing beta participant through v4. As a former pro flying jets around the world, I chose FLYQ when I bought my Mooney Ovation applying the cash vs value of all the available EFBs. It was not ready for prime time world wide travel. It has now arrived giving both Guns and Butter for the GA market. Seattle Avionics has always delivered quality and functionality above cost. I would hope they reopen their Lifetime options for new subscribers. Using our public charting and stitching it all together has been nearly bug free and much appreciated. Not like some of the other platforms that charge a premium for what has already been paid for as a tax payer. Information here, now, outside the US will drive a rise in cost but I hope it will still beat the subscription cost compared to the rest of the pack. Excellent job on this new version..Version: 6.0

Great EFBI’ve been using FlyQ for several years now and I really like it because of the essential features and ease of use. I compared FlyQ to another EFB app but found the other app had more features that were of no interest to me and it seemed a bit more complicated than it needed to be. Also, FlyQ includes geo-referenced charts that the other app didn’t in its basic product (you would have to pay for the higher priced version if you wanted this feature). Like one other review that I’ve read, I’m not crazy about the Version 4 release. I’m a firm believer in the KISS principle. For me personally, a few tweaks to the pre-Version 4 release will really make this an outstanding product. Lastly, customer support at Seattle Avionics is very good..Version: 4.0

Great Flying AppThe app covers about everything I use flying, both VFR and IFR. I use it professionally with the AHRS feature as a safety backup that is remarkably accurate and compares closely to the Garmin glass I fly with. I also use it as a VFR reference for my private flying; the Merlin provides timely weather through ADS-B plus it adds a safety backup should other instruments fail. Easy to use and fairly quick to learn..Version: 4.5.2

Great appI am a lifetime subscriber probably going on 8 years now, I have seen many changes and it just keeps getting better. Very supportive staff, I have had a few issues not that something was wrong just could be better in the next release it was there. This app is very easy to use and understand. The charts are updated regularly so you are never behind or using outdated charts. The new profile view and icing charts are also very helpful.Version: 5.0

Works! The only thing I wish for is canadian airspace coverage with synthetic vision. The flight from northern michigan across to buffalo or from Seattle to anchorage means no maps. Some coverage of the marginal areas where overflights occur would make this a 5..Version: 1.4.3

Excellent site and super easy to useI have used this for over 2 years now and I find that it is really easy to use, when on a flight I have all of the information I could possibly use at my fingertips. Well thought out on the way the information is set up and all of the wanted info is at best only 2 taps away..Version: 3.3.1

Very SatisfiedHave used this app now for 3 years, mostly VFR. Never had an issue of any note and customer service has always been responsive. I have used the other popular app FF and while it has a lot of capability, it takes more to become proficient in its various uses. So for me, at the cost and capability, I am Very Satisfied..Version: 6.0.1

User-Friendly and AffordableFlyQ provides the best bang-for-the-buck in my opinion. While I have used the app for both IFR and VFR flying, the bulk of my use is VFR. The app is intuitive and it is easy to pull up weather, file flight plans, and view NOTAMS, traffic (with ADS-B, obviously), and graphical depictions of TFRs. The pricing for current flight instructors is also outstanding and greatly appreciated. I have not experienced any issues with the software and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a highly-functional EFB at a reasonable price..Version: 6.0.2

Excellent app especially for the rental pilotI fly both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft and rent them. This app doesn’t cause me to have to learn a new system each time I fly. I just carry it with me and add the aircraft I am flying. I do not spend a lot of time learning aspen, garmin, or the other gold plated on board systems, and I feel safer doing it that way. This small inexpensive app is just excellent, in every way. I put it on a knee board, thus spending a lot of time looking outside, and some time scanning instruments, only referencing the iPad occasionally or when I reach destination,or have trouble ....I just touch nearest airport and head there for fuel or emergency..Version: 2.5.1

Still awesome - second reviewSo this "rusty old pilot" has been flying continually for over 2 years now with FlyQ. I am finishing up my commercial rating, and will soon be working on my CFI. I consider FlyQ as a “must have” for all my flights to provide situational awareness and easy access to any function. The price beats any app out there and the stability is excellent. I believe in flying the airplane rather than being fixated on my EFB, and FlyQ lets me get the information I need quickly and get back to paying attention to flying. There may not be as many “features” as some other apps, but the team is always making improvements, and adding things that pilots request..Version: 3.0.1

FlyQ-Review RefreashI bought this because it has all the bells and whistles that I need for GA, while remaining intuitive and easy to use. Some others programs seemed more suited to an ATP in their mindboggling complexity. The InSight feature just nails it. Feelings and rating haven’t changed, just keeps getting better..Version: 3.2.0

New VFR userI sampled 3 EFBs before deciding on FlyQ. I found it to be the easiest to learn and use. I actually used the 30 day free trial and my wife's old iPad to fly a Piper Cherokee 140 from First Flight airport (FFA) in North Carolina to Guthrie Edmond Regional (GOK) in Oklahoma. As soon as I got home, I bought my own iPad mini and paid my annual subscription for FlyQ. I also canceled my VFR Chart subscription with Sportys. That alone will more than balance the cost of the FlyQ annual subscription. I have always had current paper charts but now I can pay less once a year and have ALL the charts. I'm not really looking forward to buying ADS-B out. But I am looking forward to having ADS-B in because of the in-flight weather and traffic. I expect a high percentage of general aviation to forgo ADS-B out, but at least I'll be able to see all commercial and regional traffic right on the iPad! I feel safer already. Thanks to all those at Seattle Avionics for making FlyQ EFB such a great app. It has it all and I love it. One year later... I built the dual band Stratux ADS-B-In receiver using the Raspberry kit. All for under $100. It works perfectly with FlyQ!!! Now I see traffic and weather on the latest sectional charts and my actual flight path. Very slick! Seattle Avionics keeps getting better. I expect to get the least expensive ADS-B-Out when it is required. Maybe the new uAvionix wingtip unit or a Garmin GDL 82..Version: 3.1.0

Great App, but. This is one good app, but I wish it would support Canadian content. That is the only thing holding me back from subscribing..Version: 2.3.2

Great EFBFlyQ is super useful as a VFR private pilot, I used it when I was getting my license and continue to once I got it. I don’t use all of the features because there are so many but for the ones I do, it’s super easy to use. My only complaint is that oftentimes, METARS and TAFs don’t refresh quickly, but I think it also depends on the internet connection. Overall 5 stars..Version: 6.0

Excellent functionality and user interfaceI have been using FlyQefb for VFR since 2015. It’s functionality competes with Foreflight and I find it much easier to use. All the data I need is easily accessed through the touch screen and is updated regularly including airport, weather and TFR data. I find the wind data listed by surface and altitude to be very accurate. The terrain cross section information is also very useful for flight planning. Customer support is superior. The cost is also better than other aps I have evaluated..Version: 6.0.2

Great but watch outI have been an enthusiastic user for several years, after being turned off by the overly complex competitive products. Now FlyQ version 4 has started down the path to “bloatware”. Features that are of no use in the cockpit are being added. This will likely create the chance for getting into the wrong parts of the program at the worst times. It will increase the iPad resources needed to run the program. Descending into the bloatware morass has been the fate of many successful applications like Microsoft Word. I will continue using Version 3, but I doubt that I will be able to do so for long. I hope a light version like Version 3 will be made available without the superfluous features..Version: 4.0

Absolutely the BEST Performance/Value in Aviation AppsI’m a Gold Seal CFI/MEI/AGI/A&P/IA with ATP multi and Commercial single engine. I’ve used EVERY aviation app for iPad, and was a beta tester for some of the first aviation apps available. In my opinion FlyQ is competitive with or better than every other product, and is available for a much smaller investment than anything comparable. The feature set is huge, and often has features that others either take years to catch up to, or never get there. Try this app, check out the tutorials, and I think you’ll be glad you did. I think there are also special deals still available for student pilots that make this a no-brainer for pilots in training..Version: 5.0

Amazing with Digital ChartsI’m a lifetime subscription holder from back in Fly Q’s launch days. I’m blown away by the progress Steve and his small team have made over the years and now with the new digital charts this product is amazing. Subscribers are treated like family too as the team is engaging and responsive..Version: 6.0

You can fly to Oshkosh and back with this.So handy to have on the iPhone. We flew the Husky from So. Cal. to KOSH and back and used FlyQ on every leg. The winds were viscious that day, my firends, but with my wife on FlyQ in the back seat and ADS-B weather in the front seat, we were able to use best winds aloft, ATIS and ASOS/AWOS reports well in advance, as well as cloud tops and other needs. Also useful for the nearby burger..Version: 6.0.2

Excellent EFB!I have been using FlyQ for about 3 years now. It is a really powerful EFB, especially with ADS-B In. If you need that, Seattle Avionics (makers of FlyQ) sell a Merlin, which allows you to get traffic and weather in real time while you fly. I have also used ForeFlight quite a bit. FlyQ is just as powerful as ForeFlight, but it is far less expensive. I strongly recommend FlyQ over ForeFlight. And to all you students and CFIs out there, FlyQ is extremely friendly to flight students and teachers. Reach out to Seattle Avionics for an excellent deal!.Version: 6.0.1

Constant improvement, stability, user friendlyI’ve been a subscriber for a few years now. As a recreational pilot, picking an app that fits to it needs can be daunting. The features are plentiful, and switching isn’t always easy. I started with this app because of its user friendliness, and the data I need being handy and accessible quickly. Over the years, the product has been enhanced constantly with useful features, most recently a large weather package. I’ve renewed my subscription again for a few reasons: 1. Stable platform - very few, if any, crashes when in use, even with a 3 year old iPad. 2. Continuous improvement of the product. 3. Familiarity has remained with new releases, avoiding a complete re-learn on my end. 4. Compatibility with home-built stratux ADS-B in (less of a differentiator in 2020+) 5. Customer service is excellent..Version: 4.5.2

Easy to use as a noviceI use this app in my volunteer service in the Civil Air Patrol as an Observer and Scanner/AP. It is much easier to use than the default aircraft instrumentation, and more up-to-date. Have been using it for about 4 years now, and it keeps getting better. Includes CAP search grids and patterns. I recommend it..Version: 4.5.2
