Verses - Bible Memory for Negative User Reviews

It’s okI purchased the pro versus only for the app to not allow me to complete a verse I’ve already memorized. The speak out beta option (which is necessary for the completion of the memorization of the verse) doesn’t understand certain words and I actually speak great English fluently with a slight Jersey accent. Anyway it’ll mark the word red sometime well after it was white and I’m a line past it. It’s extremely frustrating and super annoying as well as very discouraging seeing how it’s hard enough to stay encouraged and focused in memorizing scripture. I would’ve gave it 4 starts but I emailed a while back about this problem and never got a response. I’m so disappointed because I really felt this app was going to be great. I gave it 3 stars because it does help and all the other features work pretty well. Please 1. Fix the speak out beta or remove it all together & 2. Can we have an option to move the verse somewhere once WE have memorized it? Like in a memorized or completed folder?.Version: 5.4.3

Doesn't work at all :(Unfortunately, I have to agree with one of the users below. This app doesn't work and as far as I am aware, it hasn't worked for a long time. You cannot create a new collection of verses, nor can you add anything. The collection of verses I had before have all disappeared. I paid a lot of money for this app and it worked fine at one point. It such a shame that it is virtually unusable and I'll have to buy another app. Otherwise, it's a great concept that needs A LOT of work..Version: 4.4

Please fix!!!!I was really impressed until recent update. Can't create my own collections and can't delete previous ones made. Please fix because it has become so frustrating..Version: 4.4

Great app, needs more workI am thankful for this app that finally got me started with memorising and meditating on Scripture. It is quite buggy, though, watch app doesn’t work, and customer support is virtually nonexistent in my experience. Updates should be more frequent. UPDATE: with the latest update, I have noticed a significant improvement both in the app and customer support. Still early days, but things are promising! :) Looking forward to testing the relaunched Watch app, when that happens..Version: 5.0.2

You have to pay money to be successful...apparentlyWhen my friend first told me about this app, I was so thrilled. I loved the motive and I couldn’t wait to get started...until I found out that it was only supporting KJV. KJV is one of the most DIFFICULT translations of the Bible. Why not NLT or NIV? One of those should be the default version. I understand that you guys have to pay your employees with the trials, but this is a cruel way to do it. I’ve seen the reviews...most people AREN’T thrilled with the KJV version. They, like me, would rather have a translation that’s easier to understand. The motive of this app was to make it easier to memorize verses...right? So how can we memorize verses if we can’t even understand the context in the first place? Seems like major hypocrisy. We shouldn’t have to pay monetary value for wanting to memorize God’s Word. Again, you guys had great motives but with a very poor execution. I’m so disappointed..Version: 5.4.3

DisappointedI am so disappointed with this app. It has so many great features but it will not load at all on my phone.. and I just bought a new phone so I know it’s not that!.Version: 5.3.6

Potential but still not yet there1. It makes you practice far too many times before giving you credit for memorizing a verse 2. This is a phone app — there is no margin of error for typos and sticky fingers. It just marks you wrong and makes you practice over and over and over. It wasn’t a wrong choice - it was a typo! 3. There’s no levels. Maybe memorizing is my gift, but I find this app losing my interest because it makes me do the same thing 35 times. Geez, I already memorized it but the 7th try, stop making me do the same thing. Give me levels to move on when I’m ready. 4. It’s a great idea but needs much improvement. 5. The female voice reading the verses is more annoying than Siri 6. ****For $9.99 I expect a MUCH MUCH better app. **** 7. If this app were free, I’d give it a higher rating and not be bothered by the above issues. 8. No app developer even cares that I gave it * star rating.Version: 5.4.3

Really good!I have been looking for a Bible memory app and it seems like Verses is one of the better ones. The number of ways to memorize a verse are helpful because they not only help in the different ways we memorize things, but they reinforce each other as well. A few things need improvement so be warned…. They have not fixed this in over two years. The speech to text function is wonky. I can say the same word over and over again but for some reason it doesn’t recognize the word I’m saying. For instance no matter how many times I try to say “entrust” (2 Tim. 2:2), the app doesn’t recognize the word. The other problem is when a verse has a dash the word right after won’t come up until you press the right key three or four times. So there are some verses you want to memorize that you will never complete fully. I was fine with it for awhile but it’s starting to annoy me, mainly that it hasn’t been fixed yet. Update: still waiting for the fix after a few years even though the developers reached out to let me know it was coming. Not sure if I’m going to keep subscribing now.Version: 5.4.3

Hope for moreI love this app. I love memorizing scripture. But I don't like that you have to buy another translation. Instead it's easier to keep the standard translation a better translation. I still don't know how to add people to this app, to grow accountability, so if I could do that, I would recommend this to many people. It would awesome to see my friends progress, but without Facebook. // I really want to be able to share this, and start scripture accountability and challenges for my friends, and students. Best app I've seen, and would love to use it in the future, but I can at the moment. Thanks. Keep pursuing..Version: 4.4

ReviewThis app is very good at helping me with memorising scripture, especially when I need to. It has different methods of memorisation such as speak out loud, type it out, word bank etc. However,I did have to subscribe for a 30 day trial to get it in different translations and in my opinion I feel like the main translations especially NIV or NKJV should be free because only the KJV is free and it will be much helpful if only mainly used translations would be free..Version: 5.4.3

Only KJV for freeThis is a lovely app. But I'm disappointed that the only free Bible on offer is the King James Version. Strikes me as strange considering - and I don't mean to generalise - that most who'd consider this app aren't KJV readers? Perhaps a choice for one free translation would have been more appropriate? Or NIV as more universally read?.Version: 4.4

Just a heads up.....I was curious about this app and downloaded it at the end of January to try the 30 day free trial. The app requires the user to set up an account, in order to try it. I wasn’t prepared to start yet and go through that process and figured the 30 day trial would start from the day I set up an account. Anyway, at the end of February, I was billed for the app. I sent a refund request to apple telling them I never used the app- never set up an account. They denied my request. A week later I tried to sign into the app, but since my account was never set up, it said there was a problem. I was disappointed and annoyed with the situation, and sent a screen shot to the app customer service explaining what happened on March 7th. I finally created an account figuring if I paid for it and can’t get a refund, I might as well give it a try. Since I only saw the KJV, I wasn’t really interested. Today (March 27th), the app customer service finally responded and checked in. They saw that I had created an account on 3/7 and wanted to make sure that I no longer saw the error message. I don’t. I have never tried this app, so it might be the best app in the world. But this disappointing situation makes me not want to use this app or support the people behind it..Version: 5.3.4

Not working & not providing supportI have loved this app, but it just has so many bugs and they don't seem to care. I have emailed and messaged on twitter multiple times asking for help and get ZERO response (other than one twitter message asking me to give my email address so they could look into it - I gave it and then received no follow up whatsoever). They really need to fix both their app and their customer support..Version: 4.4

Speak out (beta)Speak Out (beta) doesn’t work, seems to have particular trouble with proper nouns. But you can’t progress without using it and if you get a lot of it wrong (which you will, because it doesn’t work) then you’ll lose most of your progress..Version: 5.4.3

Why go the way of login required?I enjoyed this app and have really gone through a lot of verses. Then an update came that requires you to login. I realize every app in the App Store is going the way of login required these days, but for what purpose? The claim is to backup data, connect with friends, and encourage one another on line. The real purpose is to track your data for sale back to Facebook and collect your information to sell to marketers and 3rd parties. I realize apps take money to make and update, but I’m fundamentally against this business model. I’d rather pay $5 even $10 for a really solid app that doesn’t nag me or sell my data. It’s clear the company is not interested in spreading God’s word, but keeping the cash flow high for as long as possible. I’m uninstalling this app and moving to a different bible memory app that doesn’t (yet) require you to login in. I mean really, just make it optional..Version: 5.3.0

What happened?I love this app, but am super frustrated, I can't leave collections I want to leave, and new collections randomly disappear. I've tried emailing multiple times with no response. What's the deal?.Version: 4.4

Tap to revealTap to reveal is not working, please fix it..Version: 3.0

Errors inhibiting completionI use the speak out feature and it picks up the words correctly. However it marks the correct word as wrong and takes my completion back. Mark 9:23 starts with If (NIV) and while it shows “If” it lists it as red. The passage is below, correct but it marks it wrong..Version: 5.4.3

Great start, could be betterI love how the app has me in the “memorization mindset” when approaching the Bible. There are just a few things that could be better . 1. The word bank game makes you start over at level one every time you leave the app which is frustrating because the intial level doesn’t even leave out keywords . It’ll leave out articles and conjunction words that are not vital to understanding the scripture . I feel like if I’ve left off on level 3, I should be able to start at level 3 when I return to the app. 2. The game where you’re hearing the scripture is not helpful. The woman’s voice sounds to robotic and unnatural to contribute to any type of learning and there is no way for you to control the speed at which she’s speaking the scripture. I wish the voice was an actual persons voice and I wish I could listen to the scriptures at a slower pace. 3. I wish there was a spaced repetition portion built in . That may be very helpful. Regardless of these issues, I continue to use the app because it actually helps with discipline and consistency. I just hope it continues to get better :).Version: 5.4.3

Have had this app long time, since the early days. This app has changed a lot. It went from free, then, hey one-time buy the translation of the Bible you want to memorize for like 6 bucks (I don’t exactly remember long time ago). It changed again, perhaps somewhat recently it seems, to paying a yearly fee — but originally it was just a one time purchase for the translation (KJV was always free— good). And can now only memorize them if I continue to pay. I don’t like it when apps keep changing their policies on payments. — A different thing that is frustrating: one thing that I don’t like is that if you expand the verse (which is an option that is nice) to see the context of the verse. You cannot Undo it… which is annoying. Because it does not always mean the person is expanding it to memorize more of the verse. But wanting to expand out to reorient themselves ect. — But compared to other apps Is is great for mémorisation. The fill in the missing word option seems to work well— so does typing in just the first letter— as these are techniques folks use with good old pen & paper, & old tried and true ones..Version: 5.4.3

MisleadingThe description tells you you can buy individual Bible translations. This is NOT true. This is a completely subscription based app. As no one is likely to want to memorise more than one translation this is completely pointless. This makes it unusable. Why on earth should anyone pay an annual subscription for one translation? Better to use a flash card app. Much cheaper in the long run..Version: 5.4.3

A 5/5 app but…I’d happily give this a 5/5 rating, however it’s success is seriously hindered by the fact that you have to subscribe, albeit a small fee, to access basic bible translations ie the NIV. This, to a degree, makes the app unusable to me and im sure many others Maybe look to make other features paid instead, which would still allow people to use and recognise the value of the app. At the moment, unless you speak old English full time, it’s a struggle..Version: 5.4.3

It's free, but wants you to give up your privacy. After downloading and preparing to memorise, it asked me to logon or into something or somewhere. There is no offline option, tracking my memory progress is done by someone else, somewhere else out there on the web. Obviously MY iPad is not a suitable place to store MY score. So it's a big no thank you from me, before I even began..Version: 2.0.1

Huge RipOffWhen I first got this app I was using ESV to memorize all of my verses, but now with the new update they make you pay for each translation you want. You only get KJV for free. I already paid for this app. I don't want to have to pay again so I can get back what I had before. I would not recommend this app..Version: 3.0

Developer Contact Please.I must have the opportunity to open this in landscape mode. Please help me..Version: 5.4.3

DisappointingI upgraded to the pro version in response to an offer for a year free trial. However the app has now completely frozen. I can’t do anything with it. Have deleted and reinstalled several times but no change. Very disappointing!.Version: 5.0.1

Still crashy, buggy and power hungryUpdate: 07/02/2021: continues to crash and behave erratically. My annual subscription renewal is coming up. Update: 26/12/2020: Still crashing when reviewing long chapters, scrambled Recents, high battery drain. I have no problem paying for quality apps, but leaving these issues undressed for a subscription app is unacceptable. Update 10/2020: the crashes continue when doing Type Out on long chapters Unfortunately despite having filed bug reports with the developer, the app continues to crash and exhibit very high battery drain when doing Type Out of long chapters, especially when doing several in succession within one app session. Also there is still no way to memorise passages across chapter boundaries, so you can't memorise and review entire books in one go..Version: 5.4.3

Love this app - Person with bad memoryI’ve been using this app for less than a week and already love it. Have memorized more than I ever would have without it. But I just paid for the ESV translation and now the app won’t work! I’ve turned everything off and on and deleted and downloaded it again but it still doesn’t work. 😔 I ready miss it for my morning quiet time..Version: 4.6

DisappointedThis used to be a fantastic resource and I gladly recommended it to many other people. Unfortunately, now that it has gone to a subscription only version, I can no longer do that. It is one thing to require an in app purchase of your favorite bible version (which I gladly did) but to require an ongoing subscription purchase is quite another. I’m just glad I was able to share this incredible app with many others before it went with the subscription model. It had made “hiding God’s Word in my heart” easy and fun. I had never been able to memorize scripture before, but with this app I was able to memorize whole books of the Bible and long passages as well. If you are willing to buy a subscription, this is still a great app, but many people I’ve talked with aren’t able to do that. I am sad about this change..Version: 5.4.2

Good idea, poor execution. This is such a brilliant way of learning! In a matter of days I've learnt an entire chapter and am a significant way through a second. Recall isn't word perfect but it's getting better. Having wanted to learn the version of bible my church uses, I happily subscribed; £20 per annum being a small price to pay. However, I wish the developers were better! This is a very buggy app which freezes or crashes far too regularly. And it appears to be getting worse. I'm really happy to support a method of bible learning this effective, but it needs to be better..Version: 5.1.1

Great appBut not enough translation.... Will use once you have Indonesian translation for Roman Catholic bible.Version: 3.0

Love the app but no way to contact if neededI love the app and got it on my daughter’s phone so she can work on verse memorization and we can connect and work on them together. I haven’t used mine in awhile and lost the ability to change bible versions. I went to restore my purchase and I get a pop up that says restoring purchases but nothing happens. I canceled my subscription thinking I can repurchase it and there is a problem. I do appreciate that if you had a subscription and cancel and sign back up, it won’t allow you to so your not paying $10 for the year instead of the $5 but I would really appreciate it if I can get my purchase to restore. I really love the app and need to get back into memorizing scripture again but I can’t at the moment..Version: 5.4.3

Its a good app but not for meIts a really good app, but I normally read KJV on my bible but i guess the UK KJV and the American KJV is a little different, which had me soooo confused. I wish this had the option to type in your verses yourself that you want to learn. But other than that its a really good app, but unfortunately i wont be using it, since it doesn’t have the option of the Oxford KJV. Learning any other versions really messes me up. But I totally recommend this app.Version: 5.4.3

Shameful!!😡 charging so much in iapCan't believe this Christian app would try ripping you off by so much!! Couldn't even try it out as for some reason it wanted me to enter my email to sample the free KJV (£4.99 for the NIV).Version: 4.1
