Used to work fineThis app used to work great. However, recent updates have made it impossible to connect to. Have tried every suggestion I’ve read on forums to resolve the issue but I still cannot connect. I think I will just download a different app..Version: 3.1.1

This app needs fixing.The amount of hatred and annoyance I have for this app is insane. It doesn’t connect the phone to the camera and it never works. If and when it works it’s fine but that’s very rare. It takes forever to connect and I don’t think it’s a problem with my camera or my phone since they both work fine and it’s definitely to do with the app. Unfortunately it is the only way I can get photos from my camera to my phone but this app needs fixing..Version: 3.1.1

Doesn’t work anymore after the recent updateThis app worked SUPER well and fast……until they did an update this year. Now it won’t work at all. Occasionally, it will connect but after like half an hour of going back and forth. Once you finally get it to connect to your camera, it won’t connect anymore unless you delete ALL your previous settings and spend another who knows how long trying to get it to connect again. After whatever update they did, it’s completely useless. Terrible. Canon, you need to fix this!!!!!!!!.Version: 3.1.10

Problems with ConnectionI feel like every time I go to connect my camera to my phone, it will be connected for about three seconds before it disconnects. Sometimes I won’t even be able to find the camera on the phone, it’s really frustrating. When it does connect though saving the photos can be a problem too, it would be nice to be able to do things outside of the app while they are being transferred. I haven’t been able to save 300+ photos cause I keep on getting mad cause the app wouldn’t stay connected. When the app does what it’s supposed it’s a good app, but they just need to work on ease of connection..Version: 3.1.10

Disappointed, needs improvementOnce the camera is off, the app no longer works, your unable to see your images. You can only save one photo at a time to your phone, there isn’t a way to save more at once, very time consuming. Each time camera is on and you want to use the app you need to set it up again, it doesn’t remember automatically. You can only use it with wifi so once I’m on remote holiday I won’t be able to use it?? Put the shutter button back on the right!I shoot real estate all day every day with an iPad mini on a strap, in landscape orientation - have been for years- and suddenly the shutter button is no longer where my thumb naturally lands on the right of the screen. Not to mention with it at the bottom, there is now just empty wasted space and if you show the camera controls, the preview image is even smaller. Too laggy for selfies! g9x mk2I don’t understand why it’s so laggy to use the phone as a viewfinder for the camera! I wouldn’t mind connecting the phone and camera with a cable to fix this issue since it is unusable for getting group photos without the help of a stranger. Works (just) but not intuitive or fastHave just set up a new camera and with a reasonable understanding of WiFi / network setup I was able to get the direct connection to an iPhone to work. The usability is poor as you need to switch your phone to the camera’s WiFi network and you can’t use a WiFi internet connection at the same time. The iPhone defects lack of internet connectivity via WiFi after a while and then you get an alert offering to activate connection via the phones cellular data signal instead. Reconnecting the camera the next time you use it is not automated and requires repeating some of the same steps as when you first set it up. Automating it via Bluetooth would have been much better, and possibly a single button synchronisation option to transfer new photos (what I really would have preferred!). Once the app is connected, you can select photos to import (very slow transfer) and also use the iPhone as a remote viewfinder with limited camera control. That part is a good option to have. Photo transfer is probably much easier using any of the following: a wired connection to a computer, an SD card reader, or WiFi uploading via the Canon online service. You’re stuck with this app unless you use these options..Version: 2.6.0

Can No Longer ConnectI have the Canon PowerShot SX620HS. I used to be able to connect my iPhone with no problems in the past. I’ve had to re-register the camera because of the updates and now I can t even get past the registration process because it will not recognize my phone even when they are connected to my WiFi. Somewhat unstable at timesThis app works well when it works, but I’ve had it fail to connect vis Bluetooth repeatedly. I’ve also regularly experienced connecting to my network successfully, only to have it fail when I select photos to import into my phone. A second attempt to join my network and import photos usually works (except for today). Bluetooth is enabled on my iphone (IOS 15.7.3) and the phone connects to the camera, however the Camera Connect app can’t seem to connect via Bluetooth. I’ve tried unpairing the camera and phone, then re-pairing. Clearing wi-fi and bluetooth settings on the camera. All sorts of recommended fixes. But the only thing that works for me is to delete the app entirely, then re-download and install, followed by re-registering and re-pairing. This is annoying, frustrating and time-wasting. Please work on the stability of your app. It is a good app but it needs to be more stable. I know that Canon makes great cameras but a great app to go with it would be really great..Version: 3.0.10

Not continuously updating GPS CoordinatesOngoing issue with GPS Continuously updating with each new location/photoshoot. This is incredibly frustrating as I need to manually adjust the location of photos by copying the coordinates from the map application and pasting them into the photo/photos location. It seems to only mark the coordinates for the first time the app is activated with gps on. I hope the app can be updated to correct this major frustration..Version: 3.1.20

New Problems After Update.I’ve been using this app for a few years now and would always have given it 5 stars however, since updating the app I’ve had the following problem. When I connect my phone to my camera, the app connects and then within a few seconds, disconnects from my camera. I must have tried this 100+ times and it’s still doing it. Probably the Worst App Ever WrittenIt’s beyond me how such a piece of garbage was allowed out. I mean, how hard can it be to connect iPad to camera? Well, for Canon the answer is very hard thanks to an utterly illogical sequence of inputs. And one would think that, once you have managed to connect (no idea how; it just sort of happened), connecting the next time would be easy. But no, of course not. This is Canon, after all. Anyway, the camera’s SSID appears on the iPad - 10 points - but then you’re asked for a password. Somewhere in the chaotic process passwords had appeared but they changed with every attempt (they looked like OTPs). , no matter how hard I tried I could not find the thing nor could I reconnect. So I gave up, put my Bose headphones on - instant connection - and listened to music instead..Version: 2.4.10

Doesn't give an option for Raw/JPEGI'm shooting in both Raw and JPEG and when I choose the photo from the app, it only gives me RAW files to choose from. Not really ideal to use when uploading to social media. File is too large and gets compressed too much..Version: 1.2.30

Needs fixingI’ve used this app for awhile now and it’s been great, I’ve been able to download my photos from my camera to my phone and as a young, learning photographer it’s really helped me show my photos to people. However, ever since I have got my new phone the app doesn’t seem to want to connect my camera to my phone and so I can’t get my photos, I work as a photographer at my youth group so I really need to get them onto my phone in order to send them to my youth after the night ends and because it now won’t connect I’m unable to. Won’t connect IPhone 13 IOS 16.5I’m not sure if this is on Apple or Canon, but my IPhone 13 with IOS 16.5 WILL NOT connect using this app and it’s very frustrating. I have tried everything under the sun to get it to connect and nothing has worked. My husbands Motorola phone and my Old iPhone will connect so it’s not the camera. I’m wondering if the new IOS update is causing issues because it is switching back from cellular to wifi depending on what connection is better. Something else from Canon that stops workingCanon’s response: “Just buy a new canon camera, it should probably work then.” I’ve been trying to connect canon cameras to my phone since the EOS M, and always there’s a problem. It’s faster to drive home, transfer photos to your computer, then email them to your phone, than to wait for the app to connect to your phone, EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAIRED IT AND THE CAMERA IS LISTED IN THE APP!! If, by chance, you do get this app to work, do not update the app, because it 100% will not connect to your camera again. Can we go back to EyeFi SD cards? Other camera companies go way out of their way to make this process really easy, but not canon. Help within the app is useless and online help just quotes FAQs and does address problem. Conclusion: If the app connects to your camera, don’t change anything. If it doesn’t, you’re out of luck..Version: 3.1.10

I see the same complaints 10 years agoThis app is a complete waste of time. I was so thrilled to upload my photos wirelessly on vaca as a backup. It is cumbersome to figure out, insisted on uploading to google photos and google wanted access to all of my photos. Figured out how to transfer to my iCloud instead (could not tell you how, but I did it). Takes forever, even on my home wifi that is Fast for everything else. The biggest problem is that it doesn't transfer sequentially, neither by date/time or by img #. There are skips, uploads 10 in a row, skips one, 2 more uploaded, skips 10. Then it numbers them with a (2) that puts it all out of order. This is the same complaint from a review from 10 years ago. Why, canon, why? Fix this thing, or don't offer it. I have 3000 photos from a long vacation with intermittent missing photos. I have spent a week trying to figure out which pix are missing. I'm giving up and buying an sd card reader. The positive reviews must be from canon employees. Cannot fully express my disappointment in this app. (Love my Eos R 10, but maybe I should have bought a nikon).Version: 3.1.1

Doesn’t workUseless. Doesn’t ever connect. Wasted part of my life trying to get this stupid app to link my phone and my camera. It’s quicker and easier to buy a card reader, eject the SD card, put it in the card reader, insert it into a computer, download the software, edit your photos in Adobe camera raw, upload to OneDrive, then access your OneDrive on your phone, and download them to your phone. Please add IntervalometerThe app works great and I love that I can quickly share images with others without having to download the SD card. The Geotagging option is great too. What I would really appreciate is an intervalometer function to be able to set long exposures in Bulb mode, say 2min. each, and then programme the camera to take a number of them, say 10 exposures of 2 min. each with a 30sec interval. Having to hold the shutter to n my phone and watch the time go up is not very practical. Also, it would be great if the lens‘ focus motor could be remote controlled to fine and precise focus the lens while watching a life feed on the tethered phone/tablet‘s display. Not having to touch the lens reduces vibrations which make it hard to accurately judge focus on single point light sources, such as stars. Otherwise the app is a step in the right direction..Version: 2.6.10

Very sketchy, very patchyI can’t believe this app gets such good reviews. I’ve used it for years. The Canon instructions online to make the initial connection bear no resemblance to what you actually have to do. Then when trying to connect your camera to the app you are very lucky if you can get a connection to stick first or second time, it is more likely to be third time lucky, but it can easily throw you out or not show your images or not let you download them. It could be simple as clearly the technology is there but for some reason it is mighty complicated. Why for example do you need to confirm that you want to make a connection (to the camera) six times… it seems absurd..Version: 3.1.10

AwfulSimply would not connect or hold a connection to my RP, neither on bluetooth nor wifi. On screen instructions are jibberish, the sequence of steps appears to be wrong and they don’t match what appears on the camera screen. I gave it one star because zero stars is not an option..Version: 3.1.1

Not goodLike most of canons apps, they sound and look good. However they are not ideal Canons instructions are vague and you don’t go via the menu click on wifi etc… Someone suggested using the wifi on the main screen, now that goes further, picks up the wifi but refuses to connect as it is insecure, directing you to fiddle with the router to get access approved. Shouldn’t be like that Canon, you telling us that you set up cameras with an unsecured network… that is poor. So like many I will rely on a cable or take the sd card out and use the photo downloader from Apple or the one via Adobe Bridge - both work with no problem as they should. Overwrites Time and Data when Importing?!It’s a good app but when I import photos to my phone it sets all the date and time metadata to the current time. Recent Update Broke Direct Wi-Fi ConnectivityI’ve been using this app with my EOS R with out issue until today. Looks like a recent update broke the app’s ability to direct WiFi connect my iPad Pro to the EOS R - does’t matter if I select the camera’s wifi before or after launching the app. Found that I can connect using Bluetooth, then letting the app connect via Wi-Fi. Only issue is my RAW files appear color swapped(?) in the default photos app… files are fine once imported to Affinity Photo. Before the recent update I had no issue connecting directly via Wi-Fi, or importing raw files. Please fix Canon!.Version: 3.1.1

SuspiciousI’m beginning to believe that the comments saying the app is "easy to use" and "helpful" are from Canon employees. Refuses to connect to cameraI have a Canon Rebel SL2. Both the camera and my iPhone 13 Pro Max (iOS 17) connect to the camera’s wifi, but my camera then crashes with an “Error 17.” This issue has been occurring since January 2023, and I have been unable to transfer any of my pictures as I do not own a laptop to input the SD card. Always DisconnectsMy opinion about the Canon App is negative. Whenever the Canon app is used and a call, message, or email is received, clicking on it and returning to the app leads to disconnection from the camera. Reconnection is required afterwards, which consumes a lot of time. I hope there can be a way for Cannon to fix this problem. There are plenty of other apps and Bluetooth Wi-Fi products that don't disconnect when a call or message comes through, allowing you to stay connected. They should find a way to reconnect without going through all the camera options manually. Nonetheless, I appreciate this app as a wildlife photographer because it allows me to take pictures without disturbing the subject by setting up the camera and stepping away. Lacks basic intervalometer feature.It’s alright for what it says it does, but it is limited in what it can do - no built in intervalometer? Come on. Once you realise you’d have to keep pressing the shutter button in the app every 10-15 seconds, it quickly loses its utility, for me. I can’t be the only one who planned on using this app on the assumption it would have such a feature? I still use it for the occasional shot where I don’t want to physically touch the camera but I really expect the app to have a basic timer feature. Glacial photo transfer speed on iPhoneI use Photo Connect for both my iPhone and iPad. The iPad’s transfer speed is pretty good; however, the iPhone transfer speed may as well be dial up. For example, 30 photos took almost 30 minutes to transfer. This was a consistent issue for both my old iPhone 11 and my current iPhone 13. I’ve read online, some people say there is a chip set issue. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it numerous times. I’ve reset my iPhone numerous times. Nothing fix this. For Canon, this shouldn’t even be an issue. I use mainly for geotaggingI use this app mainly for geotagging. It connects with my R8 and RP quickly to transfer gps location, unlike fujifilm’s app and Fujifilm cameras. Worst Camera App on the planetI have a canon 6DmkII. Part of why I bought this camera was for the remote capability through my phone, this app almost never successfully connects. There is no way to use Bluetooth. The odd 1/1000 tries I get it to finally connect it lags so badly that its borderline useless. I have better luck setting the 10 second timer and running back into position. It also loses connection if you don’t take a picture within a minute and then refuses to reconnect. I just tried using this to take pictures of my kids and myself for Christmas and both of my kids are crying in every image because of how frustrated I was fiddling around with this pos app. I would give it negative stars if I could. Surprised to see a 4.8 ratingI always come back to check on the reviews of this app. Has decent features but the connectivity is never good. Complaints - remote shooting can be a nuisance - canon log doesn’t show LUT on device when remote shooting - if I walk more than 5 ft from my camera, it disconnects and gets jittery during live shooting. Transferring photos to the phone has got better over the years, along with the way you setup the connection between the device. I have it 3 stars. It’s ok could be really great if it weren’t for the connectivityI actually really really like this app and it’s one of the motivating features for getting the Canon camera. As a safari guide i often have guests for only a couple of days and with this app I can quickly transfer a bunch of photos onto my phone, tweak them a bit then WhatsApp them to guests so they’ve got some treasured memories to go through whilst on their way to their next destination For that and controlling the camera the app is really brilliant together with the Olympus (sorry oms..) app they’re easily the most user friendly of all the manufacturers apps. Wouldn’t recommendFinally a app that connects to your phone in a simple way! WRONG. This app since adding the registration is completely inoperable as it doesn’t enable my camera to simply connect as it used to. Used to be a good easy to use app! Now it’s entirely useless.Version: 3.1.10

I expect more from CanonThe app is actually fine when it works, but getting it to connect to my camera (m50) is extremely unreliable. Even right next to my WiFi router. If I do get it to connect it doesn’t stay connected. I’ve been 100% unsuccessful with Bluetooth and can’t connect at all on my work WiFi network. The connection issues are frustrating because the app is pretty handy when it works..Version: 3.1.10

Worked Well and then Stopped WorkingI’ve had this app on my phone since 2019 and it worked every time. Recently, it decided to stop working. The app would not connect to the camera. Seems like Canon said “screw you, we’re going to stop supporting wifi capabilities, spend more money and buy a new camera.” It’s really annoying as my camera isn’t even 10 years old. Thanks canon. Better setting up instructionsAn update to my last review of one star, what the app fails to tell you is delete every previous setting on your phone and the Camera otherwise they both say they are connected but they are not. Cannot Connect to CameraThe latest update has rendered this app absolutely useless. This app was perfect once - so easy to use and could easily transfer photos from your camera to your iPhone. Perfect when out and about and to share your photos instantly. Now, it takes several attempts to connect to the camera if at all and it drains the camera battery in the process. Can’t connect with any of my Canon cameras. Bring back the old version!.Version: 3.1.1

Promises much. Delivers little.Brand new 5D mkIV, first commercial shoot with the unit and we connected it via the canon camera connect app so the client could look through photos as they were shot.. connected effortlessly for the first shot but then as we set up the second shot it went to sleep and is now impossible to reconnect. Restarted both camera and iPad and now the camera thinks it’s still connected but the iPad/app thinks different. Asks me to reconnect but the functionality of the camera thinking it’s still connected makes it impossible. Very disappointed in what could be an amazing piece of kit, hopefully Canon can spend a bit more time on this one as it was brilliant for that first shot, but now seemingly useless and frustrating since it was one of the deciding factors in purchasing the 5D mkIV. It’s just ok!I would love to be able to utilise this app more. There’s a bit of lag, you can’t remote shoot video nor can my canon 6d transfer a video file to my phone which is super annoying. Needs work. But I don’t see any improvement to this app, ever happening..Version: 2.6.10

Location Stuck at Initial PointRead about this on internet and unfortunately true. The location function is not working. Takes the first location where the app is started and then uses that for everything. Very disappointing to get home and find all my locations were in one spot. This is a basic feature and should not be a problem for as long as it has been. Come on Canon..Version: 3.1.1

Can’t connect IPad Pro 13I was told to the delete app, then delete the wifi connection, reset the camera, I even went to canon who told us to reset our iPads, no app should force you to factory reset brand new iPads. Fails to meet basic needs of professional photographersI was hoping to use this app to turn an iPad into a dedicated high-res viewfinder to inspect shots immediately after shooting them, to verify focus, and check for any little details, which often go unnoticed on the small screen on the back of the camera. Unfortunately, this app fails to meet this need in a most frustrating and ridiculous way… Of course, the live view image is significantly reduced in size. This is expected. What surprises me is that after taking the shot, the app insists on displaying a low resolution version of the image and sticking it in this tiny window that cannot be expanded,. And when I click to download the full resolution image, it doesn’t display it! Instead, it offers to open it in another app, or download it to my iPhone Photos. And if I do that, it bounces me away from the Camera Connect app, and when I switch back to the Camera Connect app, it has disconnected from my camera! And so I must renegotiate the camera connection after viewing the full resolution image in another app. This is totally unworkable. This app assumes that I am some kind of social media influencer, not a professional photographer doing critical work. Very unfortunate. I’ll have to stick with desktop based solutions..Version: 3.1.10

Frequently disconnects from cameraThis app is a pain to use. It disconnects from the camera so often there’s just no point to using it. The process of reconnecting is a faff: it demands going back into the camera’s WiFi connection settings, then re-connecting the phone to the camera’s own WiFi network (which generates a new key every single time). An exercise in frustration..Version: 3.1.10

Too complicated.Why does it have to be so difficult? Unable to connect despite having an above average tech knowledge..Version: 3.0.10
