✓ TerribleI cannot begin to express how much of a waste of time and money (certainly not worth £4) this 'game' was. It wasn't a game. It was interview footage told in a non linear order. That's all there is to it. It wasn't until I was long past the point of hearing the same 'clues' told in a slightly different manner that I decided to look on the internet only to discover I had apparently already completed the game the night before. I really have paid the price for ignoring the poor reviews and believing those foolish enough to think that this was a unique and immersive experience. You've been warned..BotbotsukVersion: 1.1

✓ Great story hampered by overly minamalist game designI've got to admire this game's ambition. The developer dared to do something original, and, in that sense, this game is a success. But for narrative-driven games to really work, they have to allow players to become emotionally invested in the characters and their situations, and I found that this game lacked the necessary breathing room. The acting is very good and carries real nuance. It's difficult for one person to carry a movie, play, etc., but Viva Seifert pulls it off. Unfortunately, the power or her performance is hindered by the clunky, excessively minimalist game mechanic. All you can do in this game, basically, is search for video clips using keywords. This type of minamalist design sometimes works in narrative-focused games, but, with Her Story, the lack of interactivity made it difficult for me to connect with the story. Interactivity can establish context: who am I and why am I watching old police interviews? You find out at the end of the game, but if you had been able to somehow uncover this context earlier, I feel it would've made for a more emotionally-engaging experience. I also found that being able to uncover clips in random order reduced the impact of story. I imagine that this was done to make the narrative more mysterious and open-ended. But it means that how the story unfolds for you depends on what keywords you enter. I learned the main twist pretty early on through a fluke search, and that interfered with the narrative tension for me. The story is well-written and fascinating. ✓ What am I missing?Ok, I get that this is an innovative approach to a mystery genre, but there are some things that could be vastly improved. I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to be doing and how I completed the game, to start with, so it would help if there were more instructions or context. Unfortunately I felt that the actress was very poor, I mean a level drama class poor, which was a big let down given the brevity of the story line. At one point she plays a guitar in the interview (the actress is a singer in real life), though undoubtedly cute, it just takes away any credibility from the experience.I was able to piece the story together very quickly (within 25 minutes) after stumbling on a key piece of information, so anyone with a modicum of intelligence will be able to guess at the basic direction of the story pretty quickly. ✓ Promising idea but underwhelming and didn’t give closureThe concept is decent enough but the game just seems to be a very basic search tool with little or no intelligence built in. If the exact word isn’t entered, then no manner of synonyms will help you. This effectively ruined the gameplay for me and seemed at odds with the point of the game itself. At one point there are a series of yes/no answers which are pointless. I suppose the idea was a blind alley, but it was poor. Acting was odd and over-egged. ✓ Ok but then what?So, like many other people have said, they found out what had really happened very early on in playing the game. Same thing happened with me. Her acting was okay, but not the best. But i could sense the difference between the two characters. I enjoyed working around and piecing together Her Story, but what I was waiting for is to bring her to justice. Or to have more action or direction as to what I am supposed to do once I figure out the entire story. The files on the computer were useless to be honest. Nothing worthwile. ✓ Over too quicklyI like this concept and enjoyed the ride but I resent paying for a game that can be solved so quickly. The game relies on you using search terms to discover a murderer, if you happen to use the right search terms within the first few attempts and understand what took place, the rest of the experience is pretty fruitless. ✓ Kinda DisappointingAs a big adventure game fan I was quite looking forward to playing this. I think perhaps this game has been too hyped up. The writing and story are very hacky, and I think people must have just been so dazzled by the presentation and nonlinear unfolding that they assumed the writing was good? It’s not, it’s very soap opera-y and has nothing much to say about the themes it tries to evoke. The character at one point says “aren’t these all just stories anyways?” which I think we’re meant to consider some kind of profound thesis statement for the game? All well and good, but the game isn’t terribly interested in exploring why people lie to each other and themselves beyond a sutface level “idk this chick’s crazy lol.” Disappointing! Runs great and the search function was a fun hook. ✓ Great story and premise with one major glaring flaw......That I figured out shortly early on, and then got lazy and used the flaw to figure out the story easily. It took the interest out of it, because before that, it was very intriguing to try to piece the story together... ✓ Upside down!The reason I'm giving this a bad review? Because iPads have a magnetic side designed to hold a cover that converts to a stand. And when using said stand, the iPad is oriented with the home button on the right side of the screen. Except this game, for some reason, ignores that. It ONLY plays oriented the other way, so instead of keeping the iPad on the desk, you have to hold it. The entire time. With the home button on the left. Using a stand makes the game upside down, as opposed to every other app I own that rotate to properly align with the screen. Fix that, and I'll boost my rating..FilmYakVersion: 1.1

✓ Very basicNot what I was hoping for. Basically its a big bunch of video clips, and the *only* way to interact with the game is typing in a keyword to search the transcripts. From there you are supposed to piece together her story. The videos only contain her answers and not the question she was asked, and they span lots of different dates which you have to keep track of yourself on paper. There are no clues to submit or any measure of progression other than what you do yourself on paper. Likewise the game offers no way to even type notes. ✓ You will either love it or hate itIf you need your gaming experience to have a specific list of rules, your objective constantly spotlighted with an icon hanging over it, or enemies to destroy, then this game is definitely not for you. However, if you are of the ilk who can take initiative, listen intently, and put two and two together, you will enjoy the process of deciphering Her Story. Simple production values and a very solid performance allow you to concentrate on the unfolding narrative and be immersed in the experience. You rely on your own skills at putting information together to solve the case, just like a real detective has to. ✓ It's rubbishI got the game thinking it would be really good then I got it and it did not tell you want to do it just came up with a computer screen and lots of videos so I watched them thinking it would tell me what to do then I finished watching them and there was no help button or anything just a place to put the videos and a bar where you type stuff in I put in it robbery nothing came up ! I am just going to say, beware that there is a possibility you may find it as annoying and awful as I did. I found the idea to be interesting and I feel it could be amazing if put together right, that is why it deserves 2 stars from me rather than 1, but the acting is terrible. In my opinion incredibly bad, "I could do better" level bad. I will admit that I didn't watch long enough to find out the killer or reveal a lot of the story, so the whole story may be good. But honestly I couldn't care less about what happened to the man because the whole thing is so unrealistic. I can't suspend disbelief at all when the acting is this bad. It's also a little preposterous, the part where the actress left to throw up was so badly acted it was laughable. The point where she started playing the guitar was completely ridiculous (the guitar playing wasn't even that good!), at that point I just couldn't take any more. ✓ Different and Fun but RushedThe gameplay was something different and even though the acting was pretty poor it's still neat to play full motion video games. Unfortunately the ending was abrubt, I had no clue how I came across it, and it was apparent I had not seen around 50% of the game. This is why I say the games release was rushed, they should have worked on a more "complete" ending. Having said that, if they release a sequel perhaps with extra features that take you outside of the interview room and perhaps into a chat room with an AI bot or something, the game has potential. ✓ FrustratingI liked the mysterious nature of the game, but there is NO definite ending. You are never told anything or shown that you got to the end of the case or you have watched all the relevant videos. I kept waiting for something to tell me I solved it, but nothing ever did. It was only after I went online to chat groups that I figured out that I had solved the story literally the first day I started to play. I do not like games that have no sense of accomplishment or finality. The idea of the game is clever. But it’s ridiculous to not give it an ending or definite story. It’s like the makers want it to be so mysterious that they forgot to have an ending. It felt like they wasted my time because I kept searching and playing, thinking that there was more to the story because there was nothing telling me I had won or found all the videos. It’s also ridiculous that there are sites dedicated to the discussion of what the real story is. If no one is sure, then the creators have not told a tight, definitive story in the first place. Seems bizarre that developers only allow game to run/display with home button to left. I have a keyboard attached, and home button is permanently on right. This means, I take iPad out of keyboard holder to play, or play game in awkward holding position. ✓ Dropped into another world where you have to figure everything out.Her Story is a different kind of game — other reviewers do a good job explaining what it is, but not all of them mention what little instruction exists. You literally have access to a computer terminal of clips and nothing else. Watching all the clips and searching for different ones seems to be the only thing you can do to figure out the story. On iPad, the screen is locked the wrong way (home button on the left) so it cannot be used effectively with most keyboard docks and an iPad Pro. This is a simple fix, just enable rotation. I’m surprised this game has been around so long and that fix has not been implemented yet. I will give Her Story a continued look and update my rating if my opinion changes..Ben2009Version: 1.1

I'm not going to complain that the game interface is 'only' a search function, and that you're 'only' watching videos. The idea of catching key details and using those to unlock more and more of the story is neat. The person complaining about keeping track of the dates has totally missed the point of the game, as have the people complaining that you have to keep your own notes. The issue is the execution. I uncovered key details which revealed the exact nature of the whole story very early on. As a result, various story details that would have seemed like key clues to many players lacked any punch when I saw them. What doesn't help is that a game like this relies entirely on its script and acting, and neither were realistic, or very good. It feels entirely unnatural. I was really looking forward to being immersed by the game’s retro computer interface, but I would have to use the onscreen keyboard, kinda spoils the fun a bit. I still would strongly recommend getting Her Story if you don’t intend to use it with the Folio Keyboard for your iPad Pro. ✓ GAME??Hardly! Not a game at all. More like an interactive B-grade movie. Literally. All you're doing is entering search words to bring up the next movie clip... then as you progress, you end up with the clips completely out of order. No other functions other than simply watching these interview clips, unfolding a bad story, which you can guess as if goes along. There is a 1990s version of a tile game in the background which is completely out of date and boring, and a chat window pops up at the end to close the "story." This is definately worth no more than 79p it's got a really tacky feel to it. ✓ Disappointing it can be mirroredBought this to play with my SO and figured I would screen mirror to the ATV. when mirroring is enabled it crashes on startup and when starting g the game then mirroring there is far too much lag and no audio. ✓ Not really a game.I'm all for interactive stories, but that would be a loose definition. This is a game in the absolute loosest sense of the word. You type in words to find videos and watch video clips. You don't really have to do anything with them. You don't even really have to pay much attention. You just have to find keywords to find all the clips and once you've found them all, that's it. There's nothing more to it. No real puzzle solving or much of anything. It's not a terrible app, it has some merit, it's well written and the acting is solid. I just don't think it's worth $5. ✓ Nice conceptI appreciate the innovation. There isn't any other game like it. Although it doesn't really feel much like a game , but more like a bunch of videos that you look for using search terms.
