✓ Not possible to turn off “show errors?”I loved this app, but after the last update I noticed the option I always used to turn off “show errors” is now gone? Or has it just moved somewhere else? A lot of the fun for me in crosswords is figuring out which of several possible answers works with the other clues around it, and by showing errors in big red blocks the mystery and problem-solving is taken out of it. It’s a useful tool on a hard puzzle if I’m stuck, but I hate having it active constantly. I would love to get the feature to turn it off back! Edit: Thank you for the response! ✓ My Favorite Crossword AppNever written a review for an app before, but I really do love this app. Ads don’t pop up often, I usually just download packs and turn off wi-fi and cellular data so I don’t get any. The puzzles have great difficulty range and you can customize gameplay to your liking so you can play to whatever skill level you want (I usually play on hard mode and make it so that I don’t know whether my answers are correct until the puzzle is completed). Very user friendly and accessible so anyone can play. I’ve even found favorite crossword writers, particularly Ada Nicolle. She writes puzzles with a lot more pop culture references geared toward a younger audience, which is GREATLY appreciated as someone in their 20’s. Can’t recommend this app more :).Version: 1.6.5

✓ Best Crossword AppI do crosswords daily and have several apps across multiple platforms. This is hands down the best crossword app I have seen. Maneuvering and word entry is simple and straightforward. The multiple help/hint levels are easily adjustable and will be useful for those who wish to train up for higher levels of difficulty. The puzzles provided are well done and cover multiple levels of difficulty. The free version requires one to view an add after every puzzle, but the price for a non-ad upgrade is reasonable. ✓ One of my favorite apps!This app has so many crosswords and no ads except when you complete one. I’m legit addicted, would definitely recommend! They’re doable but difficult enough to keep you interested. Love it! Edit - I attempted to submit this online but it didn’t go through: My one frustration is that the game keyboard can be really laggy. I’m not sure if it’s just my phone, but it isn’t as responsive as my regular phone keyboard and I often accidentally hit the lookup key instead of the letter O. I was just wondering if there was any way to maybe improve the keyboard experience or allow users to use their phone keyboard? ✓ Enjoyable but not the most user friendlyI’ve played about 20 puzzles now and I like it. Sometimes, actually a lot of times there’s repeating words in different puzzles, but that’s not a huge concern. And maybe it’s just on the easy setting so far. My advice or recommendations for this is the keyboard. I really wish they would use the device keyboard instead of their own because it is just slightly different than the normal one to the point where I struggle to type lol. Also I think the organization of the puzzles should be a little better. Maybe do sub settings where you can specifically choose easy medium or hard instead of all at once. Overall I really like this app, I think it’s a much better free alternative to the big name one, fun puzzles that are challenging yet doable. I like the variety of writers, and I like that we see who they are because I don’t understand one particular writer’s work. (Not that it’s a bad thing, it just makes it frustrating for me). ✓ Outstanding Mind Exercise !!!Crossword is a wonderful puzzle app that stimulates the mind with a variety of authors and levels of difficulty. Having tried other apps in both the iPhone and Kindle environments, I can attest to the ease of use, ease of moving from clue to clue, use of auditory and visual alerts to erroneous letters and the satisfying sounds and visuals that occur on successive conclusion. The layout is not showy which is an advantage and the clues typify the level at which I have played. Having enjoyed the puzzles of a number of different authors, I can say that a few of them construct puzzles, the clues of which resonate to my manner of solving puzzles better than other authors. I found this to be true regardless of level. I am a PhD in Psychology and offer this discovery as a suggestion for you to find authors from whom you find clues that lead to your success at puzzle solving because there must be a correlation between how various choose clues and how various players solve puzzles. This would even Len itself to a great piece of research by a grad student some day !!!.Version: 1.3.8
✓ Puzzles are great interface not so much.The interface on this app is very poorly done. I do the NYT puzzle on my phone everyday and I have no problems using the keyboard. However on this app the keyboard is very touchy. Frequently I touch letters but it doesn’t register which is very frustrating. Unlike the NYT interface there is no options for skipping letters that are correct when erasing nor can you skip to last incorrect letter. The pluses are a seemingly endless supply of puzzles which I love. I tired the free version there were some ads but it wasn’t ridiculous however, purchased the ad free version because I find them distracting..Version: 1.4.9

✓ Amazing app, supports the wrong Oklahoma football teamThis was my favorite crossword app until I opened a new crossword and one of the clues was Oklahoma Athlete, as an Oklahoma State University Student I only support the cowboys. But the answer was S****r, I had to disgustingly type out those dreaded letters in order to complete that crossword. I still shudder at the thought of possibly typing that word again. I'm not sure I can ever use this app again. You may feel this is childish or immature, but that only means you clearly have never felt love. I only continue to play in hopes that I can type the letters Cowboy in response to a question relating to Oklahoma State. One day I will see this and when that day comes I will give this app 5 stars, until then they remain sub par. ✓ Great App some errorsThe app is fantastic. Great puzzles frim a variety of authors. It would be helpful if all of the authors had a website or the app developers had an error submission page that could be forwarded on to the authors. I understand that this could be problematic as many users might mistake a puzzle theme for an error, but i have found a few puzzle errors (not many). Most recently in Mason Fleming’s puzzle “Songs IV” (Very Hard) 15 across is hinted as “Eagles hit” with the answer as “Hotel CaliRornia” which should obviously be “Hotel California”. There doesn’t appear to be a running theme either such as “R for F” or something that would require swapping “F”s with “R”s as this was the only misspelling in this entire puzzle. Extensive internet searches found no trace of this puzzle’s author on the web for explanation..Version: 1.3.7

✓ Too addictingI’m on this app every day! It’s such a wonderful way to stimulate my brain. I do crosswords when I eat, during commutes, and before I go to bed. I ask friends and family if they can solve some of the harder questions (I never google). I even send some of my friends text messages of the board! It’s too addicting to get through a whole puzzle and even fun to see how long you’ve spent on it (sometimes it adds up to hours!) I do have one suggestion. It gets pretty annoying to have to press the delete button through an entire correct word that is “locked” in order to get to a word you haven’t found yet/an empty box. I hope you can add a future feature (possibly an on-off setting so users can have a preference) that allows the delete button to skip locked letters in rows and columns. It would make it so much easier to navigate the whole puzzle. In addition, since I play this in bed, it would be really nice to have an inverted color scheme (white letters black background) so that it’s less hard on the eyes. ✓ Great lil sound when I enter the correct wordThis is the second iPhone crossword puzzle app I have tried. The first I won’t mention, but let me say it is from a very well-known and established newspaper that has a stranglehold on perceived quality crossword clues. I have greatly enjoyed this app even though I have no idea who is writing these puzzles and whether or not they are legitimate crossword canon. As the title of this review indicates, my favorite feature is the delightful animation and jingle that happens when you enter the correct answer into the puzzle. Some might say that that’s cheating, that one should disable that feature to more fully enjoy the challenge of the puzzle. I go back and forth on this issue, but ultimately I will continue to revel in that “right answer” song..Version: 1.6.5

✓ Great app but has a few issuesRight off the bat, this app is pretty awesome. It’s the best crossword app that I’ve ever used. On the iPhone it’s awesome. However on the iPad I keep hitting accidentally the button to go to settings every time I hold the device to play the game. That is somewhat annoying. One improvement that I could see would be able to play the app using side view maybe. Or maybe making the app more button friendly with an iPad so instead of having the buttons all at the bottom, it would be best to put them on the middle side to where they are out of the way of what you’re holding but at the same time or easy enough to get ahold of. ✓ A GREAT OLD GAME LAID OUT PERFECTLY!!I loved the day where you opened up the paper on Sunday. My dad would read the news and I would go for the funnies and play the cryptic game. The crossword puzzles were a gem. I grew up watching my father drink coffee and work the puzzle. After a few years I started working them and slowly became hooked. Marmaduke and Garfield were in the funny section. Darla was great and then the crossword. I would try to help my dad only it was the other way around. ✓ Landscape Orientation!!!!!I really like this game, there are tons and tons of really good puzzles, and they’re not all ridiculously easy like in a lot of crossword apps. HOWEVER, I wish you could rotate your device and play it in landscape orientation. I have the game for iPad and my iPad has a horizontal stand, it really makes no sense to design this only for portrait orientation! PLEASE just let me rotate the game. Also, there are a lot of ads, and the more you play the game, the more frequently the ads start to appear. I don’t mind that you see one when you open a puzzle or close it, but like multiple times, in the middle of the puzzle, as soon as you fill in a clue, BAM. 30 second unskippable ad. ✓ Challenging at TimesReally enjoyable puzzles. Because different authors are submitting puzzles, it is a challenge to get into the mindset of the different authors. Some crossword authors are more literal; others are metaphorical; some use wry humor. This adds a level of challenge that I appreciate. I am curious as to whether there are available statistics on average time to solve puzzles of varying difficulty ratings. I play only the puzzles that are listed as very hard. Some I solve in less than 15 minutes; others in 30 minutes. In my wish list, I’d like an average time of other players by puzzle for comparison. I get that this is an app and the creators are free to include whatever content they wish. But I think it’s enough religious content that it should be included in the description of the app. Like, after the 100th puzzle with book titles from the Bible or have “idol” be an answer for the clue “false god”, it kind of gets tiring and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. ✓ Great app, but would prefer a new keyboard or at least optionalityI’ve loved this app and its abundance of crosswords for a few years now, however I think it can be improved by updating the keyboard ideally to match that of the phone. I find that the current keyboard isn’t as user friendly given the shape of letter keys and seems to be less sensitive (ie i often have to press numerous times to get a desired letter, and sometimes will press the wrong one too, but I don’t really have this issue with my default iOS keyboard). ✓ Great App!!!So, I absolutely love crossword puzzles. And this app is great! It’s only 20 dollars to remove apps period, no continuous fees. (I don’t have money, seeing as I’m a teenager, but I would definitely pay it if I did) They don’t make you watch ads to get hints, and you can choose whether or not you want it to show errors. There are tons of crossword puzzles, and better yet: they save your progress so you can go do a new one if you’re stuck for a little bit. They don’t throw ads at your face every few minutes when you’re in the middle of a puzzle. Overall, this is a great app and a great way to spend my time. ✓ Great but be aware non-UK citizens…Great puzzles for sure but there are times when it is important to know the UK or British spellings and terms for various clues. Something I have limited knowledge of but am slowly learning so maybe it’s good! Learning, it’s a good thing! Not griping at all but it’s helpful to be aware. Today I learned that tyres go on wheels in Britain, not tires. I previously knew that a car trunk is called a boot in the UK so that one didn’t get me too bad. So if you get REALLY stuck, just keep in mind that you may have stumbled on a Britishism that you are unaware of and that you will need to do research. Easy and Medium are fun too for a quick one. The free version requires you to watch a short commercial after you complete an entire puzzle so not bad at all. No pop ups or anything else. After four puzzles, I was hooked and ponied up the $6.99 to get the “commercial free” version. Only thing keeping it from being 5 stars for me is some of the creators use repeated clues in their creations. So if you do two puzzles back to back by the same creator they will likely have 3-5 clues the same as the previous one you did..Version: 1.4.1
✓ Great app; needs a frantic decluttering.I've been using this app for some time (ad-free, paid version). I like the wide choices with difficulty levels, authors and even the size of the puzzles. Any given day I can go through ten puzzles or so. My only gripe is that I cannot sort or save puzzles by specific author. By size or difficulty, yes. By author, no. I've been doing a binge on Marc McLain's puzzles for several months now, and I must scroll through forty to fifty pages in order to find his earlier puzzles. Then I "bookmark" them by solving the first few words in Puzzle 1 of the group. That way, his puzzle groups stay on the first screen (i.e., the screen that first appears with the new ones listed) where I can see them and access them easily. (Yes, this is a weird way to use the app, but it's how I roll. Work with me here.) If that feature could be added in a future update, I would be an even happier cat. ✓ P. pasco if you see this i want moreMy biggest qualm is that lot of words are super repetitive within a particular creator, especially short ones (like “era” or “ccc” or “old” over and over). no one specifically, but generally across the options. so for example within one “pack” or whatnot i’ll have the same word multiple times and even multiple times within the same puzzle. i stopped doing the “easy” ones and that helped the repetitiveness. hints/solves you can use from the one across website are hardly ever right/helpful/even remotely possible with what’s “locked in” from being correct. the only puzzles i like are by p. pasco, so she or he should do some more. i finished the pack and now im bored again. i’m still going to play it because i don’t have a better option and in the grand scheme of things it’s really not that bad. overall i recommend. edit: i also like the ones by Gentry. need more Gentry and Pasco talent on this app asap!!! edit: i think i’m biased towards pasco because the content is young and fresh and interesting and incorporates some spanish. it’s things that are actually relevant to me. so maybe you need more young authors? idk, good luck!.Version: 1.3.8

I like the fact that your crosswords are not too hard nor are they too easy. I am playing on the easy section but I am sure I am in for more of a challenge when I switch to medium and hard puzzles. This app allows me to choose the type of puzzle I want if I want a thinking challenge then go hard if I want to think but not too much play medium and if I just want a casual think sit by the fire place crossword I have it. ✓ Love this App — only one issueI do like everything about this game — its operation is great, etc. Only one complaint — I’m really only engaged by the ‘hard’ or ‘very hard’ categories (sorry if that seems like bragging but there it is) and the introduction of new/free puzzles is too infrequent. But the real problem is the price of the paid puzzle ‘packs’ — these contain 25 puzzles for $3.99. ✓ Great way to pass timeThis is the best crossword app I've found in the App Store, so far. I don't care for a couple of the puzzle authors (bad clues and abbreviated answers galore), but there are more than enough puzzles to keep my brain from turning to jello. My only real complaint is the reveal button placement. If there's anything I can't stand while working on puzzles it's being given the answers. On a few occasions, I have accidentally tapped the reveal button when using my thumb to go back and forth between the clue box or a letter box in the puzzle and the top row of the keyboard. It would be nice if there was an option to remove those buttons completely or move them to the top of the screen..Version: 1.2.7

✓ Great! One thing, though…I really enjoy this app. The ads are not too forceful and the puzzles offer a good variety. The one thing that I do find quite frustrating is the keyboard. It’s different from the regular iPhone keyboard, so I’m constantly having to correct myself. The app also automatically jumps to a new section once a word is complete (correct or not). ✓ I have PTSD - use this every night to fall asleepLove this app. Probably the most used (or at least top 3) on my phone. The presentation of the app is clean and easy to navigate. I love the variety of crossword creators offered so I never get tired of doing only one person’s puzzles. I also like that I could pay a tiny fee to never have ads. Of course I want to support those who made this app and definitely do not want ads popping up every night but I’m grateful not to have to subscribe for the package - I wouldn’t use the app if a monthly charge was asked. ✓ Keeps me sharpI’ve been using this app for a couple of years. I have the free version and although it has ads, they aren’t overly intrusive and only last for 30 seconds to one minute. It’s great for filling in time while waiting in a doctor’s office, for a friend while they run into the store, or the pharmacist to fill a prescription. One of the best features is that you can stop anywhere in a puzzle, close the app, and go right back to where you were when you closed it. The dashboard allows you to set up game just about any way you like. Among other features, you can go from a light to a dark mode, set it up to turn letters that are mistakes, red or set it up to let you complete the puzzle and then tell you that there are x number of errors that need to be corrected. Finally, the actual puzzle is easy to navigate with arrows that allow you to move from down to across or vice versa, delete mistakes, or move to another location in the puzzle..Version: 1.6.2

✓ My first crossword appSince this is my first crossword app, I have nothing to compare it to. But I do like it a lot. If there are words I just can't seem to get, I'll set it aside for a little while and when I come back I'll get a few more. I've learned some new words, and some different ways to look at other words. One of the funniest was "shoes worn with a robe." I've been in church choir for many years and always wear my regular shoes with my choir robe, and didn't know what it was asking. It was only after completing more of the puzzle around that answer that it became clear it was "slippers." Guess I've been in choir too long! Thoroughly enjoy this app!.Version: 1.2.7

✓ Good crossword gameI've tried a few crossword apps and this one is my favorite. The controls are intuitive, the number one thing I look for in a crossword game. I love that the games are by different authors so that you get varied "flavors" of games. I don't play this a lot but there's enough puzzles to keep me occupied for years and years! There are some ads, yes, but so far I've found that they only appear when you are in the menu system, and I've never had ads interrupt when solving. Nice! I understand that the devs need to do some ads to make money, so I love how they do it while you are not involved in a puzzle! Nice! ✓ Good, with some issuesThis is probably the best crossword app I’ve found. Others charge way too much money or have a very limited set of puzzles. This one is free and has a ton of puzzles, which is great, but be prepared to watch a lot of ads. I mean a LOT. I can get through an easy mini puzzle in less than 30 seconds, then have to sit through a 45-60 second ad. Sometimes you can skip the rest of the ad after 15 seconds, but not always, and you’ll get an ad after every single puzzle, and it’s usually the same ad. The interface has some issues, namely the custom scrolling. You can swipe to go from page to page of puzzles, but if you try to drag the scroll bar it will jump around and not show anything until you stop scrolling. Usually it just dumps me back on the first page and I have to swipe to get to where I want to go..Version: 1.6.6

✓ Seriously loveI’ve never been one for crosswords.. they get hard and overwhelming. I have had a few brain surgeries this year(3 within 30 days), and have memory/cognitive issues. I do physical, occupational and speech therapy, to help. In speech, we work on memory and words, and they had me use this app.. I was nervous at first, but loved it so much, I downloaded it when I got home! I LOVE that you guys give hints and don’t try to make people pay for them(so far, from what I’ve seen anyways). You give several options for hints and they’re easy to get to. This app has helped me a lot, being able to stimulate my brain and make me think, yet offers help if needed! Love this. ✓ Great Xword AppThis is by far one of the best crossword apps on the store. I waited through 2 updates to write a review as I wanted to see how the company fixed issues through each update. For instance, in one update sponsor ads in the free edition would sometimes cause a black screen to appear and make it seem as though your app had crashed, when in reality the home button just needed to be tapped and the app reopened. You don't have to go through a full re-load sequence like you would if it had gone through a full crash or if the app had been closed fully. Once re-opened you just open right back to the puzzle. So far, the latest update has resolved this sponsor ad/black screen issue. I am also quite fond of the idea of telling the player the grid size, puzzle ease, and author up front. There are some authors, for instance, that I am inclined to not even open their puzzles while others I gobble up every chance I get. The maker of this app puts out as many free puzzles as they do paid! The paid puzzles are rich and totally deserving of the price of coffee (some less than the cost of coffee!) Often the paid puzzle packs come with more puzzles per pack than freebies. As I mentioned this is one of the best crossword puzzle apps I've played - and I have played almost all of them. I like this one so much that I wrote this review-something I don't normally do..Version: 1.2.7

✓ Quite enjoyable with only one minor complaint.I really enjoy this app! The variance of difficulties and dozens of authors. Depending how much time I have for a puzzle, I’ll adjust the difficulty to suit me. Never have any issues with the app itself aside from crashes now and again. But I think most apps do that. I like… no, LOVE that they don’t cram ads down your throat. The ads are brief and I’ve found that you can just shut off Wi-Fi and you can play with no ad interruptions. But that’s kind of cheating so I don’t do it. I thought about purchasing to remove them, however this leads me to my only real minor complaint: I pretty much blazed through most of the puzzles and they do update with new ones now and again, however, I would love to see more frequent updates and maybe some new authors as well. Other than that. Solid app. By far the best crossword one out..Version: 1.6.5
