DisappointingI thought I had read good things about this app, but that has not been my experience. Sitting right under a chickadee making one of its two most identifiable calls, the app did not even give me chickadee as a choice. Similarly with a white crowned sparrow. Over a few weeks of trying to use it, I’m tired of repeatedly getting the choice of marsh wren or kestrel as two of the three options for a pretty wide variety of calls. In all that time I think I have successfully identified one bird reliably..Version: 2.2.4

Do NOT buy in the UK. USA only birds! This should not be on sale in the UK store. Paid £10 for an app that only recognises US birds. Impossible to get a refund from Apple as no option to “report a problem” with this App. DO NOT BUY..Version: 2.1.1

Please add more birds !I like this app for homeschool. We like to look at the beautiful pictures and listen to their songs but while studying the 50 states, many many birds are missing !! No scissor tail flycatcher. No loon?! Please add more birds especially state birds. And many birds in our area can’t be identified correctly..Version: 2.3.4

Only America centricUseless for identifying birds in Germany.Version: 2.2.9

Not for the U.K. a total conI am sure this is a great app which Apple sell and all so quickly took my money but it’s only for North American birds . I’d do a no star if that was possible, and just how exactly do you get your money back? Yeah, nowhere. Disgraceful con, should say clearly for UNITED STATES US ONLY,..Version: 2.2.9

Poor support - has only ID'd 2 birds correctly in the hundreds of recordings I have madeFirst the app functionality- if your purchasing this to ID birds by song save your $. In the hundreds of recordings Ive made since 2017 the app has ID'd two birds correctly. As such this app is only used to record songs and upload to eBird for my birdsong life list. second- app support. there is none. i purchased this app in 2017 for 9.99. when i purchased my new phone the app didn't come across and showed that I had to purchase it again. i contacted Wildlife Acoustics who referred me back to the app store. after two hours on the phone and repeating the issue multiple times to multiple representatives at Apple Support I was told to just purchase and download it again. When I did this it said you already own a copy and would I like to download it for free (tell me something I don't know). So if you make this purchase realize you will be wasting time trying to maintain your 9$ purchase on an app that doesn't do what it says it does. Once you realize that good luck with support!.Version: 2.2

Doesn’t work very wellI just spent half an hour in a mosquito infested wood trying it Id a distinctive and often repeated call. No dice. It suggest some inane choices nothing like the call I was hearing..Version: 2.2.9

RecordingsBest bird recording app I’ve found but has limitations. I love the three second delay so that I can wait before I start recording. But it often requests me to rate the app when I first open it, so I miss getting the recording. It doesn’t open consistently to the same screen so that is frustrating also. I have a hard time with cropping songs, the crop tool isn’t intuitive. I also would like a way to crop and save a new version rather than writing over the first one. I don’t use the predictive function often and it’s confusing that I have to cancel to save the song and return to record again..Version: 2.2.4

Worked greatWhen I first downloaded it, it worked great. It could identify all kinds of birds in my area. But as of late, it’s giving me some really strange results. Such as squirrels, when it’s a fly catcher. Not only this, but the search doesn’t work. Perhaps I should reload it..Version: 2.3.4

Not quite there yetCrashes when I change a setting. The app identified pileated woodpecker alarm call as a bobwhite quail after careful selection of the sound on spectrograph. Identified mallard quack as a grackle. The only call it got right was northern cardinal. Oh, and when I try to display the FAQ from the menu I get a Not Found error. I will keep trying though, and look for updates. I like the way it captures a couple of seconds before you press the record button..Version: 2.1.1

I’m forever hopeful, but...This app just doesn’t come up with identifications that match my recordings. It will generally offer three possibilities, with recordings of their songs. The recordings are far different than what I have just recorded. It’s as if the app is just taking a wild guess. It would be absolutely wonderful if the app were right on target with the IDs. It would be exactly what I need, and I would learn a lot. I keep trying. But even with the clearest recordings, I get no help at all. I do wish....Version: 2.2.4

No U.K. coverage. What is the point in downloading this in the U.K. and then being asked to select your USA state. It should say that it is for the USA in the description - or just not be available in the U.K. until they add a U.K. database..Version: 2.2.4

UselessI’ve given this app well over a year to correctly identify bird songs. 95% of the time it’s either giving me a result that I know is totally incorrect, or it simply can’t identify a clearly recorded song. Not worth the money I paid..Version: 2.2.9

Some perks worth havingBest part of the app is that the recorded songs actually call in the birds for you! I put out a sunflower feeder and a thistle feeder. The first day I got 2 pairs of cardinals flying around my area and sitting within 15 feet of me. I now have at least 4 goldfinches at a time. One day I was just playing all the bird songs and a red bellies woodpecker came flying in like he was late to supper! The ID is spotty but at least now I can see the birds that I’ve been hearing in the woods! And they’re enjoying my feeders. So much fun!.Version: 2.2.4

Don’t remove features that work!I like this app better without the “improvements”. The new selection box makes me select the particular bird song I’m interested in and then makes me select one of the possible matches. If I knew which bird is singing, I wouldn’t need the app in the first place!! We have a wooded area in our backyard which is home to lots of local bird. It’s very rarely that we can actually see the bird that is singing. And that is exactly why I need the app. Making me select the bird species that I think is singing based on short-listed suggestions defeats the purpose. I don’t see a way to turn off the selection box. I’m okay with the app making close guesses as to which bird species it might be based on my location like it did before but now it seems useless to me..Version: 2.0

Upgrade made my app unusableI’ve tried every thing I know but it keeps giving me a pop up error that I have to select bird species. Previously when I would record and ask for ID it was quite accurate. I’ve recommended the app to many people. I’ve deleted the app and will try to download it again to see that corrects the issue..Version: 2.3.3

Great idea, butWhile I have been a fan Sibley’s products in print and electronic , this app simply does not produce accurate results in my experience. I’m pretty knowledgeable about birdsong and have tried it on easy ones such as spotted towhees and chickadees, but it rarely offers a correct i.d. Also the fact that it appears to isolate such a small fragment of the soundscape perplexes me. I’ve tried expanding the analysis frame to no avail..Version: 2.2.9

No SleuthingI was very excited to be able to learn to ID birds from their song but have been disappointed in the apps performance. The process is straightforward and clever but the birds it IDs based on recording their song are way off. I have tried it about a half dozen times and it hasn’t come close. It seems to just suggest the most common bird in the area (like a robin) even if the song recorded isn’t at all like a robin’s song. Too bad..Version: 2.2.9

More miss than hit8 out of 10 calls are misidentified. I’ve recorded birds while looking at them, and the app doesn’t even have them in top three suggestions. In field it has identified calls as birds that migrated months before and as species that would be incredibly rare for this area. Being able to record and save calls is nice as is ability to see and edit spectrographs..Version: 2.2.4

Needs more work.It appears the song catalog the app uses might be biased towards recordings made in the eastern US. Even when I isolate the part of the recording to the relevant phrases, it more often than not suggests nonsensical species. Species with large repertoires, like Bewick’s wren, are especially problematic. I do like the sonograms created. Wish I could control, or even knew, what file format is used by the app..Version: 2.2.4

Used to be excellentThis used to be my go-to app to identify bird songs/calls. It was, for the most part, quite accurate. Apparently, a recent update makes it unusable in that it wants you to select the bird first. The whole point is to figure out what sounds I am hearing from which bird(s). If I can’t search for that sound, I won’t know which bird it is. Deleting the app. It doesn’t work the way it used to. Update: I was told the app glitch had been fixed. So I decided to give it another chance. We are sitting in our back porch listening g to all the birds. There is a mockingbird in one of our trees. We turned on sing sleuth to identify the other birds around. The mockingbird is loud and clear to use. The app is picking up every other bird but the mockingbird. So, we wonder why we should continue with this app at all, again. 🤷🏽‍♀️.Version: 2.3.4

Just rarely correctI try and try to like this app, but it is so rarely accurate. I can point it right at a bird I know that is in song, and it was come back with chipmunk, squirrel, human, or some bird not common to the area. I keep it and try it because I hope it will work and improve. Once in awhile it does. I just think the technology is not there. I am surprised that it cannot ID more accurately from the sound map as many of these are cataloged..Version: 2.2.9

Less than acceptable resultsMaybe need to use an external microphone. You must be absolutely still in handling the phone/iPad. I tried playing songs from the app and listening with the app on another devise and it didn’t pick the correct bird. Sometimes I think there may be some database problems that need resolved. Have you tried testing as I outlined above, you should be getting near 100% success..Version: 2.1.1

Doesn't work and Species list is uselessI can't complain much since it was free and I did enjoy the app for a bit, but then it seemed to go completely defunct. I recorded what ended up being a redstart and the app suggested the best match was "human, common." That was a joke right?.Version: 2.2.4

Not impressedWouldn’t recommend this app as you have to choose the type of bird before it will process your recording. What is the point then? 🙄. Also only usable for USA areas 😳 but not stated before you download. Don’t waste your money folks..Version: 2.1.1

Song I’d is broken nowUsed to live this app - simple and worked great. Now song ID is fubar. You have to select the species then compare it to the recording. Well if I knew the species I would t need to run the ID! Used to be simple record bird songs click run id and it gave you likely matches. Why they changed this is incomprehensible- app is largely useless now..Version: 2.3.3

Bird songI got caught out by not realising it’s only for birds of USA. I can’t see how to delete it as it’s no use for uk..Version: 2.2.9

Doesn’t match at allAfter recording and trying to id five different bird calls, I had to give up on this app. Doesn’t do what it advertises..Version: 2.2.9

No goodThis app do not work Want my money back.Version: 1.0.1

Pretty much uselessNot even close. Good clear recording of a warbler or vireo at the top of a tree. App suggested either a killdeer or woodcock. Seriously???.Version: 2.2.4

Very disappointingThis app only accurately identified very common birds, like a Robin, which is great if you don't know what a Robin sounds like. I wanted to identify less commons birds. The app wasn't even close, offering suggestions that aren't anything like the the recorded sounds. This app is way too expensive for what it delivers. A complete waste of money..Version: 1.0.5

Song sleuthUseless for me! I am in Uk. .. Thankyou for NOT informing its only USA . What a waste of subscription! Jo Shephard.Version: 2.2.9

PoorUsed 10 known bird calls and the app id'd one correctly. This was in a controlled environment. Pretty poor performance..Version: 1.0

Don’t waste your moneyDon’t waste your money..Version: 2.0

Great concept-doesn’t workEvery birders wish-just record the song and it IDs the bird for you. I tried it out on several birds which I could see or whose song I was already familiar with. In only one case was the correct bird even among the choices. I then tested it at home on recordings from Cornell Macaulay Library with very poor result. Even the format, giving a choice of three or four birds, isn’t really helpful. If I could see the bird to confirm it I wouldn’t need the app. This format works well for some nature apps like iNaturalist where you can compare their suggestions to an actual plant or insect in front of you or in a photo you took. I gave Song Sleuth two stars versus one as I did find the graph of the recording useful to help me envision the differences between songs in another birdsong learning app I have..Version: 2.2.4

DisappointingSo far, far from impressed. Many of the birds in our province aren't in the app, but that likely wouldn't matter since so far it has failed to recognize simple bird calls which are in the app..Version: 1.0.1

Pretty uselessI imagine it must be very difficult to ID a bird song, because I can’t find any apps with good reviews. I tried this app on a very distinct and very common and very clear House Wren song. It came up with absolutely inane suggestions that weren’t even close, such as Goldfinch. Really?.Version: 2.2.4

0 for 20 so farI was listening to a red-eyed vireo that was loud and clear... app said it was a great horned owl. Tried numerous others and have yet to come close. Maybe it's the operator?!?.Version: 1.0.5

Song sleuthHow can I cancel this app. It is useless as it is only American birds.Version: 2.2.4

No use for ukPlease make this clear in ur app info.Version: 2.2.9

Great app, sounds, artwork. Bluetooth Speaker Unrecognized.Great app, recently moved up to Montana. It’s been great to help me identify the birds in the area. I would have liked to have heard the sounds over my external Bluetooth speaker. But the app will not recognize the external Bluetooth speaker. I tried this on iPhone and iPad. I would have paid for the app. Thank you..Version: 2.3.4
