AncestryDNA: Genetic Testing for Negative User Reviews

HopelessI can’t seem to find DNA matches’ trees, I can’t search by place, everything has been changed so much in the app that it makes me want to give up. This is an excellent way to stop mr wasting so much time on Ancestry.com, so maybe that’s a plus..Version: 5.23

Redundant appAdds nothing to the ancestry app. Frustratingly difficult to use. Can’t find my way around it at all. Would never use it when ancestry app and website work fine..Version: 6.13.1

Wasting my timeEvery time I select a person from the list of “relatives” I get the message uh oh something went wrong & AncestryDNA is not available. This has been happening for weeks..Version: 4.26

Stick with the DNA don’t download the appHonestly I have been a fan of ancestry for years I even gave my family DNA kits for Christmas a couple years back because I am truly interested in family history. The DNA side is fantastic but the tree and subscription could use a lot of work at least when it comes to customer service. I had paid for a traveler subscription for eight dollars a month and after two days of the subscription I was no longer able to access documents so I reached out to ancestry for troubleshooting they basically told me to log out of the app and re-download it which I did it still doesn’t work I am unable to access any documents. So then after speaking with them I asked about a refund if I was unable to access the services they were providing they told me that is not possible. I honestly don’t understand charging someone for service they are unable to use when they reach out to you for help. Like I said I believe in what they’re doing and I love the DNA side of the services however when app isn’t functioning and you can’t access your subscription that you paid for and you can’t fix it or reimburse the customer that’s when things get a bit shady..Version: 7.12

Terrible!Keeps saying “Server Unavailable” on every tab I select. Absolute rubbish! I would suggest using the main Ancestry App, instead of this load of tosh. It doesn’t work at all..Version: 4.17.1

Not much useThere’s no ‘sort’ feature or search option, so what is the point of this app? The only good thing (and why I’ve given 2 stars) is that you can see where in the world a ‘match’ lives (if they have updated their profile, that I)..Version: 4.30

DNA Match SearchApp no longer allows a thorough search of DNA matches. Would have preferred that it wasn't changed..Version: 6.1

Connect through Social networksIt’s good, if we can Connect through social networks like insta, ....Version: 4.17.1

Somewhat interestingI was excited to do this, and the results essentially mirror what I expected. Unfortunately, there are three overlapping maps and no explanation or percentage estimates for how my DNA matches to the different maps. It would be nice to know if my ancestry was 100% from the bigger map, 80% from the smaller map, etc. Sounds like others have received that kind of info. but I did not. Also, buyers should be aware that when you buy the kit and nothing else, all you get is basically a map or set of maps, and some basic Wikipedia- type info. that is generic to that particular region, which is fine, but I guess I was expecting something more..Version: 4.3.2

DNA mother/ father sideHaving done father/son DNA when searching through profiles it used to tell you the relationship for each parent, given I only had my fathers DNA it would say fathers side and anything other person would be mothers side. The iPad app I use no longer distinguishes those relationships..Version: 5.16

Overall pretty poorIt is jus a way of throwing you some weak links that then cost you to follow up. Will delete 👍.Version: 6.9

Does not updateThe app does not update the kit status I had an email saying my DNA kit had arrived but the app is not showing the same status.Version: 6.0

Just a noveltyI was very interested to see my results, and each result I get is different from the other. Also some ethnicities are just merged with others and not specific. I’ve also noticed, since I have traceable roots to Natives, and my family truly looks like we have to native roots that we do not test for having any native. I look at the map they’ve tested, and there is no way it would show up anyway, because they didn’t test most of North America or Canada! They write this off as it skips generation, or you just didn’t inherit any. How’s that when you only tested Texas/California surrounding areas, but my ancestors are from Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland region! They do not all have the same DNA factors, and they do not all look a like! This test gets complete fail if you have Native Ancestry!.Version: 6.14.2

Useless - access using Safari insteadThis app has very little of the functionality that is available on the website. I deleted it and went back to using Safari to access ancestry.com DNA functions..Version: 5.15

Unauthorized purchaseI was given an Ancestry DNA kit for Christmas by my daughter and Son-in-Law. I sent it in, and had to have 4 sent in before I received results. I was informed by Ancestry that beginning in April 2020, Apple submitted and then cancelled the purchase, including May, June and July, but submitted it again in August and it went through. Ancestry stated the App was purchased through Apple and I needed to get with them. I could not reach them after trying every way I could so I advised my credit card company of the fraud. They investigated and returned my payment. What did Apple do? They charged my second card. I have cancelled the accounts and if the second card payment go through, I I have done everything in my power to take care of this and will contact my attorney.Version: 5.17

TerribleAncestry would not recommend. Spent hours on my tree and and glitch on their end meant I had unconnected tree and lots of duplicate records. They told me it was their systems and even though I spent hours trying to fix the same problem occurred. Was told they knew it was their problem and even though I had paid membership they would do nothing. Updated records on DNA webpage but this doesn’t update on app. Avoid Ancestry as once they get your money they don’t care..Version: 6.10

It’s crapOops something went wrong all the time crap.Version: 4.29

Update to AppThis App went through a redesign which made it less user friendly. What a colossal waste of time and resources. I am able to see a lovely list of 1-4 cousins with minor details and a green button for their tree. A tree which I am now unable to access. I used to be able to, and now I can’t. How am I supposed to use this as a research tool? Really disappointed that it has been made harder to use. Very poor customer experience..Version: 5.23

Strange...Both my parents are on here but we don’t share the same ancestry?? Also we are not white but all there is on here is white ancestry???.Version: 6.0

Great potential but terrible appI’ve used ancestry for years now. I use ancestry on my computer when at home but when at libraries and archives I use my iPad. The app looks completely different than the website and works completely different. I knew there would be some differences but it’s like there not even done by the same company. Also there are somethings that you can’t do on the app and your redirected to a webpage. For example viewing your matches tree when you click on it on the app your redirected to the website. I love ancestry and I think there is potential for a great app but this falls way short..Version: 5.14

Interestingly LameI was excited to purchase this app to learn more from my Ancestry DNA results. Ironically, none of the responses I gave matched what my DNA should have shown. Each item has a disclaimer stating that the genes can be different than what the science shows they should be. Really? And the purpose of this app is what exactly? Each item you answer the question they ask, eye color, hair color, does asparagus make your pee stink, do you have a cleft chin, etc. For every one (no exception) of my responses, and I know myself pretty well, the answer was that my response does not match the science. Example: I have brown hair but I should have dark hair. I have green eyes but I should have blue eyes, etc. Each item was a non-match! How’s that possible? Didn’t learn anything new about myself that I didn’t know before buying this app. Waste of $9.99 for me. I hope your experience is better than mine..Version: 4.3.2

DNA app reviewI much preferred the original version..Version: 4.30

You don’t get what you pay forThe data is minimal about where ethnicities are from and the connections are awful because it doesn’t show potential for which relative comes fro where even after distinguishing where many come from leaving you to do the work you pay them for, it scratches the surface of what they can give you and then hey ask for ask for more money for other things also, I just hate it. 23 & me is no better, it’s a lot of money and you don’t receive a lot of info it’s very very disappointing..Version: 7.19

Now designed for dabbling not serious researchI used to be able to use the DNA Matches function in the Ancestry App to great effect. What’s left there is now useless, and so is this separate Ancestry DNA App. I can’t see my notes unless I open a miniscule Notes icon, and only then whilst in an individual match. I could previously see my notes even on the matches list, and these notes are crucial to me managing and querying my matches. So is the capacity to check Shared Matches for each match in an easy way. This is now lumped in under a tiny Compare icon with less important comparative ethnicity percentages, and no ability to see the notes associated with the shared matches that enable one to determine which part of the family the match is from. This App might seem ok to new users who just want a bit of entertainment, but it is simply not up to the task of allowing users to research and manage their DNA matches..Version: 5.22

RatingI am finding the actual information of origins is less than accurate. My full brother looks like me except that he has lighter hair was given results 88% Italian/Sicilian, 12% Maltese. I got results of 84%Italian/Sicilian 10%Maltese and the rest English/Welsh and 1% Nigerian? I have a cousin who’s father is my mother’s cousin and her mother is my father’s sister. In addition, our mutual grandparents were cousins. Her results were Italian/Sicilian/Jewish and some Phoenician. I have very light greenish gray eyes like my brother. The trait match said that I have an 84% match to my dark eyed cousins, most of which have light green, gray or blue eyes, even with dark hair. Despite our Italian/Sicilian background are we an anomaly with all these light colored eyes? Also, how can I be the only one with Nigerian roots? I believe that answering the traits questionair was a mistake. Have advised others not to do it..Version: 4.29

IOS SupportAncestry MUST support iOS 12 in its app, because many perfectly functional devices run this version and CANNOT BE UPGRADED. I have paid for ANCESTRY DNA and EXPECT you to provide the means to access this information..Version: 4.33

Delay delay delay!Poor service, still waiting since 23 April for AncestryDNA to even begin analysing let alone provide results. Impossible to get any meaningful response about what is going on, why the delay..Version: 4.34

Paying money with no accessShocking app; can’t sign in and paying good money. Only way i can access my DNA matches is via my laptop. Not very convenient when researching my genealogy while visiting family. Please fix..Version: 4.30

CancellingI have cancelled this trial, and it won’t take, says I don’t have a subscription but won’t let me download other apps from the App Store till this is cancelled? Wth.Version: 6.6

New update is bizarre and real costlyThe new dna update suddenly bumped one of my ethnicities that has been one of my lowest for years to over 30% more and now my second highest? How does this happen? Also, the price is killing me. I only pay so I don’t lose all of the work I’ve done on my family tree and the documents attached but it is very hard to keep up with these payments for something I only use maybe once a year. I get that there will be a few. It’s not cheap to do what you do. But I have to pay quarterly and whether I do that or annually, the price is very high. Now with these strange updatesd dna results, I’m wondering if this is worth it at all? And please stop asking for a profile pic! If I wanted to put one up there I would have. But every few days I get a reminder. Enough!.Version: 7.9

Takes soooooo longI mailed my kit in on Dec. 3rd, 2020. Today is February 10th, and I just received an email saying I should get excited for results that could show up as soon as 4 more weeks. This has taken so long that I don’t really care anymore. 23&Me is significantly faster. Two of my relatives had to call Ancestry and complain about the delay, after which their results quickly became available. Not good business. Ancestry can’t produce results in a timely fashion, but the moment you activate your kit they sure can fill your email inbox with solicitations to give them more money. Here’s an idea Ancestry, maybe finish the job I already paid you for BEFORE aggressively trying to sell me more of your services..Version: 6.1

Quite underwhelmingI was excited to find this app, however I was extremely underwhelmed. Half the homepage is taken up by advertising their DNA service. Bit confused by this, as the people using it have likely already had it done. Anyway, that aside, the app can’t do anything that the normal Ancestry site cannot do. In fact, it’s probably best to use the site or you could end up going backwards and forwards between the two. I’m afraid the Ancestry app and the DNA app leave a lot to be desired..Version: 7.1.2

Needs improvementWould like be able to view matches in common from the app, it’s pretty useless with out this feature..Version: 5.18.1

Totally dysfunctional!0..Version: 6.23

Loading Matches infoNone of my DNA matches download.Version: 5.24

USE THE WEBSITEUse the Ancestry website on a computer or even ur phone… but do not use this app. The site shows more detailed information that may even vary compared to what the app shows… really stupid. Don’t use this.Version: 7.6

Strange ethnicity regions“Your DNA shows that you have ancestry from Scotland and links you to these specific regions: Wales & northwest England” So basically NOT Scotland 🤔.Version: 6.3.1

£80 !!!Y do I have to pay £80 just to know who my relatives are?!.Version: 5.22

Just updated and still brokenAncestry is unavailable. Complete joke..Version: 4.32

Ok if you are into you’re family historySorry but I’m not into my family history, but like thousands of others I took the bait and sent off for my dna results, was impressed first of all but then you realise it’s all about getting more money from you so not taken it any further as if you want to go down that route be prepared to spend lots of money and time…..Version: 6.9

Utterly uselessI’m not sure what this is meant to do, but I’ll be sticking to the website, not the app. The main app has also been degraded..Version: 4.30

Pointless AppThis app is pointless, just get the main Ancestry app, the AncestryDNA section of the main app is far superior than this app. You get much more information and much better user experience in the main Ancestry app. This app is awful, they would have been better off transporting the AncestryDNA section from the main app to this app than have this app in the state it is! It’s a complete waste of time and effort for ancestry to have made this inferior app when they already had a far superior version already in existence. If ancestry want to save money, start by stopping throwing money at creating pointless apps that are a huge step down in quality and user experience, it’s a complete waste of time and effort by a company with financial issues. For anybody looking to download this app, DON’T!! Download the ancestry app and use its inbuilt ancestryDNA section, it’s much better, you get better ancestry breakdown too!.Version: 5.22

WhyWhy can’t I see all of the reviews?.Version: 4.21.2

My dnaI Am sure they mixed up my dna nowhere in my family tree do these people focus and Ivan go back to the1700 How can we check.Version: 5.17

RichTFinally deleted the app as it’s so inflexible. Feels like a prerelease app. I’ll stick with the website until it’s finally finished, thanks!.Version: 5.18.1

Glad to know my rootsIt was exciting to trace my roots back to before my family came to the US. However I don’t want to be hounded by constant requests to pay for more services. I haven’t seen anything that is worth paying more money for yet. Also I feel like the website and app could use some improvements. It’s not as user friendly as I would like it to be. I’m sure that you guys could benefit from sending out a survey about improvements your customers would like to see and brainstorming ways to make your site/app more enticing. I do like the services that you offer with the basic package and dna test. I am giving 3* because I believe there are some definite opportunities for improvement..Version: 4.4.1

Ancestry storiesThis app sends stories about ancestors supposedly related to you...only one problem..the link to verify the relationship won’t work..no way to know if these stories are just fiction.Version: 6.9

Server issues with IOS versions older than 14.01Your latest update requires iOS version 14.01 or higher. It seems that the compatible versions of AncestryDNA app is unable to connect to your DNA server anymore..Version: 6.17

Needs more functionality.Lack of search and sort features limits its usefulness. Map view would also be a welcome addition..Version: 4.35

I need HELP finding my family .I.Version: 6.4.1

Don't expect to receive your results right away! The app is fine. But be warned, the process of receiving your results is lengthy (2 months?). I ordered my kit during the Thanksgiving holiday. While I sent my kit back to them right away, they have not processed it yet. And they are still many steps away from providing me with the results. At the current pace, I don't expect to receive the results until after the new year. If you set that expectation (long turn around), you'll be just fine. But if you expect to receive your results within a week or two, you will be disappointed..Version: 4.1

Unable to sign inAlready have an active Ancestry account and have no trouble signing in on my browser. Unable to sign in using this App..Version: 4.7

Crash crash after crashI had an old iPad and it crashed when I click on something so I updated my iPad to a pro and still crashes it looks good got a lot of good stuff on here but just when I click on anything it comes up which a message? Would love to see this work one day give it more stars..Version: 5.18.1

Important functionality lostAncestry DNA has been moved out of the old Ancestry App to Ancestry DNA. Many of the original functions have been lost (or are so well hidden that I can’t find them): switching between DNA samples, filtering matches and other advanced search strategies, grouping matches, etc. Where is Thrulines? I will have to go back to the web browser version for my match analysis..Version: 5.21

DNAI purchased a DNA kit for myself at Christmas 2019 and had the results within about 5 weeks. I was amazed at the results. I purchased kits for my stepdaughter, wife and mother in law. The kits were all sent off around May 10, 2020 and my step daughter got her results within a month. It’s been close to 2 months and the DNA progress isn’t really moving. If 3 were sent in the same day don’t expect to get results anytime soon on some. I purchased another kit for my mom and it has been “processing” since May 27 and today is June 18. I watched the videos and once the kit is “processed” machines and computers pretty much do the rest. Not sure why the business is running so far behind but I would like to know. I was thinking about 4 stars at first but...I also found out that if you are a Mormon you get free access to the site, everyone else has to pay. Ancestory, DNA, and findagrave are all ran by the same company and they cater to LDS..Version: 4.34

Missed the BoatThus far you’re seriously striking out! You said on my brother’s DNA test that he had 4% French and my DNA 0% French. My Father side is solid Irish but my Mother’s side is 75% Irish and 25% French. So how do I have 0% French and my brother 4% and my Grandfather was half Irish and half French my mother’s 25% French, certainly my brother and I should be 12.5% French so where did it disappear to? Then you say my Irish Ancestry is from the southern area of Munster of Ireland and as County Cork is where my Hagerty ancestors came from you were on the money, but that’s just 50% of my Irish ancestors of Munster you left out County Clare up on west coast! And you’re not even close to 50% of my ancestors who were from the Northeast area of Ireland Counties Antrim and Armagh and I know the most about Armagh of the four! I knew that in 1998 thanks to Armagh Ancestry and help I got from friends on Rootsweb that you destroyed..Version: 4.36

Something went wrong...No luck so far.Version: 4.25

PoorI have been using the ancestry tree app for many years and have found this to be excellent... but the DNAancestry has been very disappointing the app keeps crashing and if I eventually do get it to work I can’t justify the cost of the DNA kit as the 3000 plus matches I have, I have yet to find someone or something new....... and when I did complain, they simply sent me to the help pages on the App. Complete con!!.Version: 6.3.1

Very buggyThis app for me was very buggy kept turning itself off both on my phone and on my iPad both devices are running the latest update from apple so at the moment this app gets a No from me.Version: 6.4.1

TerribleEvery person I click on says that it’s unavailable. Even my own profile . I’ve uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still the same !.Version: 4.25

Not Enough informationNot enough information to view, without having to Pay for upgrades , 23 & Me in the US is much better, & gives more information & DNA health information without having to pay for extra subscription ..Version: 6.10

Worst DNA site, gives very little info without looking to get more $$$I received my DNA results today and I feel all Ancestry wants to go is sell me something and get me signed up since I’ve been reviewing my matches, I find it the worst DNA site to navigate of find any useful information. All it does is try to make me sign up so I can find how I’m related. I find it extremely annoying that I’ve paid to share my dna with Ancestry who will charge to share my info with others and give extremely limited information on my DNA matches. I’m not referring to info the person is not willing to share. For eg, if comparing me with a relative it will say what a common person on both of our charts are to me, eg 1st cousin but will not reveal the relationship to the other person & when I try to search deeper it tries to get me to sign up. My heritage does share this information. Definitely the worst site and will not be recommending to anyone..Version: 7.1.2

For Americans it seemsAll the search files are on US citizens, none of my family immigrated to the US, all the info on Italians are about Italian immigration to the US and nothing about immigration to Canada..Version: 6.24

All for political manipulationNothing is scientific about their test results, they cannot actually tell you where your ancestors from. They usually manipulate the information they get from you and other people and try to guess, that’s why your test results keep changing. One day your ancestors from Germany, next day you are Italian. They are just using this for political manipulation. Do not take this test results seriously. Bunlarin amaci politik propaganda yaparak insanlari Turkiye Cumhuriyetinin sozde Ermeni soykirimindan sorumlu oldugunu insanlarin beynine islemek. Paranizi bu tur sahtekar firmalara vermeyin..Version: 5.23

Ok when it works...... but app frequently freezes on my 2020 IPad 12.9 Pro..Version: 6.6

My reviewSince downloading I have not been able to get it to sign in. I am paying money every moth for something I can’t access. To post this I have to put a nickname. I have tried three. All already in use. Why? Stupid. Want to give up. Is that the purpose?.Version: 4.30

Horrible service, do 23andMe insteadI ordered the kit three weeks ago, and when I try to track the package the only information on the site said that it was shipped two days after I ordered it, and put it on a truck the next day. Then for the next week and a half, there was nothing, except that the delivery day was supposed to be over a week ago. UPS has no further information about it, and USPS also never received it. I called Ancestry on the phone and all they did was tell me to keep waiting for a few more weeks. I asked if I could cancel it, and they said if I cancel it, there is a $15 restocking fee. A restocking fee for a kit that I never received! Unbelievable! What a bunch of crap. These guys apparently don’t know the meaning of the customer service. I would recommend NEVER ordering anything from them, and going with 23andMe whose customer service is light years ahead..Version: 4.36

Uh oh somethings wrongAlways says there’s something wrong, comeback later. Could be a good app if it worked.Version: 4.34

App dose not work!My spouse and I both are waiting for the results of our DNA test. We have been receiving notifications through email on the progress of our results however according to the app they haven’t even received our kits back at this time. When attempting to contact them the computer tries to guess the issue based off key words and then gives you links that it thinks may be helpful. You are given the option to escalate your questions which may possibly get you to a real person. The first time I did not and was told someone would email me. No surprise, I didn’t receive the email. I contacted them again and went through the whole process again of the computer’s wrong guess work. The second time I actually reached Barbara who didn’t pay attention to the actual issue. When I finally got her to understand that there was a problem with the app her resolution was for me to delete the app and wait for it to reinstall. Well, I have no problem in deleting the app but once deleted I will not reinstall it..Version: 5.18.1

DNA app is terrible. Ancestry, what were you thinking? This app must have been made by someone that doesn’t actually do genealogy. I am so disappointed! The old app worked so well. You no longer easily see your common ancestor. To look at a match’s tree it opens on the internet. When you look at a match it focuses on ethnicity. All my careful colour coding is there, but you can no longer hover over it to see what they are, or read your notes. Now you have to search for the area these codes are stored. What a huge mistake this is. Hate it!.Version: 5.20

Where’s the beef?Lacks a chromosome browser which is an essential tool for serious work with autosomal DNA. The ability to connect with distant (and not so distant) cousins is heavily promoted, but most users will quickly discover that a very small proportion of these “matches” have submitted an online tree (so it’s impossible to understand the basis for the match), and fewer still maintain updated contact information on the Ancestry system. Ancestry’s marketing effort has focused heavily on their “ethnicity estimates” which promise to tell testers whey they are “from.” In actuality they do no such thing: They convey an inadequate and even dangerous notion of how human beings transmit cultural values and traditions across generations.Version: 4.33

No new functionalityI don’t understand what this is for, there is no new functionality. Along with making the main app worse there is now no reason to do anything but use the web site in a browser. That has been better for a while and this just confirms it..Version: 5.23

Terrible!I’ve had this app for a few months and it won’t let me look at anything! Every time I click on anything of interest, I get an error message! I’ve contacted the company numerous times and it’s still not sorted! Not happy!.Version: 4.29.1

Not providing too much added value....compared to Ancestry app.Ancestry DNA app could really do so much more. But app is not dynamic, and really a big let down compared to the full functioning and dynamic ANCESTRY app. Here is what you guys need to focus on to be a 5 star app. More intuitive menu to quickly toggle from one DNA profile to another one which is managed by the same person. Improve your messaging functionality. I waste too much time messaging someone and never hearing back because they no longer are an active member of Ancestry. This is a huge disappointment and bringing down the overall value of ancestry DNA and the use. You need to clarify this ....who has an active membership and who does not..Version: 5.18.1

TerribleNo sorting, not connected to family tree app..Version: 5.15

Good basic functionality with some frustrating lapsesMost of the basic functionality is there and works well. However there are some frustrating gaps when compared to the browser based version. First is the issue of persistent hint leaves in the tree view long after all hints for a person have been addressed (ie no “new” hints remain). These are understandable for minutes due to the need for data to synchronize, but they persist for hours and days after all hints are addressed. This makes for confusion and wasted effort rechecking indicated hints only to find there are none. Second is reduced functionality in the app vs the browser when viewing documents. Where it is possible to page through a document in the browser it is only possible to view a single page in the app. So for example if the user wants to see the page before or after the launched page when viewing a census document then the browser is the only option. This cannot be done in the app. Third is the search function. This is severely restricted in the app. The browser version has far, far greater functionality..Version: 3.11.1

RestrictiveBit disappointed really. Not showing anything new..Version: 4.30

Disappointing appFlaws in app, keeps coming up that something has gone wrong when you try to click on matches..Version: 5.16

Why don’t managed tests get equal treatment?I purchased 3 tests for my family. I manage them all under one account. Yet this app stupidly doesn’t give you the same opportunities to explore DNA matches on the managed tests as it gives you for your own test. For example, with managed tests you cannot store a note with the DNA relationship. With managed tests you cannot view a DNA match’s public family tree in order to find the common ancestor. In fact, the ONLY information you can view in managed tests is how closely you’re related (e.g. 2nd cousin), a comparison of your shared ethnicity, ans what DNA matches you have in common. But for the primary account holder’s DNA match, you get all that AND... 1. More info about the matched person, like their age. 2. Ability to see their public family tree 3. Ability to store notes about the relationship 4. Ability to see how long they have been an AncestryDNA member, and when they last signed in. 5. Ability to see a DNA match’s entire profile photo by clicking on the avatar. It is super ridiculous that this app is nothing but crippleware for your managed DNA tests..Version: 4.30

AncestryDNA resultsJust got my results back. I was hoping for more where the tree was involved. It turns out you have to buy a membership to see any results there. I have two first cousin matches then an unlimited number of 3rd and 4th cousins which mean noting to me. So I found that to be fairly useless. The ethnicity was interesting but not a huge surprise. The traits were the best section of all it is the most fun and interesting facts that were pretty much right on. I’ll have to give it time to see if I enjoy the rest any more. However I’m sure I won’t buy a membership as the tree is still very manual and not clear..Version: 4.2

App crashing after last bug fixSince the update at the start of March 2022, the app won’t open or work on iPhone with iOS 15.3.1.Version: 7.1.2

MatchesI prefer the way the matches showed before. It was clear and showed the cm’s without having to click on the person. Also, my ethnicity showed one thing on my site and something totally different on my mother’s matches prior to the update. Currently the match on my mom’s site shows as my prior estimate. I called to find out which one was correct at the time but you cannot get ahold of anyone who can do more than look at the site questions to answer you leading to frustration and the feeling that I cannot necessarily trust Ancestry’s estimates. It would be nice to be able to have someone that can forward the question to a person that can answer dna questions..Version: 4.6

Help! Why does the message keep coming up ‘oops something went wrong, please try again later!’.Version: 4.28

Poor implementationNew app is poor substitute for browser access to ancestry..Version: 5.24

Had high hopesThis test… doesn’t work. I had some really high hopes about finding out a lot more details about the places my genes come from, but I also decided to do the genetic traits add on test to see how accurate it was on measurable appearance based traits. Almost none of them were correct, even those that are easily identifiable and pretty well established in other genetic tests (i.e. hair or eye color, earlobe shape, cilantro aversion.) In addition, the ethnic origins directly contradict the majority of well documented history in my family genealogy in ways that are quite literally impossible. Lastly, I was still excited to see some of the detailed regional breakdowns, but I just got some wide regional guesses and generic Wikipedia information about a few countries. I would go ahead and splurge on a more reputable test like 23 and Me instead of going for this..Version: 4.6

Very limited and not accurate statusGot an email that my kit was received and the app still doesn’t reflect this. Have no idea what my sample’s current status really is. The whole process is taking forever and ever and ever. I’ve done molecular testing before and they must only have one person in their lab who works two days a week.....maybe. So far NOT worth the money 😢. Am a bit worried about the results as far as their accuracy, etc. Seriously, I sent my dog’s DNA sample in and it was finished a LOT quicker (a couple weeks) and the customer service was WAY better. For awhile I honestly thought my sample was lost - didn’t even have tracking information. This app/kit is so highly rated and I’m very surprised about it. 😲Maybe should have done 23 and Me instead. Really bummed..Version: 6.2

Full of promise but lacking in substanceThis app does not appear to update. Several weeks ago, my mother received email notification that her sample had been received but the app has not updated for this step. The same issue appears with my login. All the bells & whistles but lacking in connectivity..Version: 6.1

New appMuch more difficult to use now ancestry has split the DNA and family tree app. Also frustrating to not see the details of specific communities on a list without clicking further links. Sorry but disappointing..Version: 4.30

Not recommended at allTry to spend a bit more money and go to a better company. I got my results in almost half a year. What a waste of time and money..Version: 5.18.1
