Podbean Podcast App & Player for Negative User Reviews

Very frustratingJust had to delete the app because there was an error showing up. Reloaded the app and when I went into the podcast, all my podcasts I have previously listened to have all had the red played removed. So now I don’t know which ones I have listen to and which ones I haven’t. Also pressed on a podcast to listen and it is t downloading the podcast. It is skipping from one episode to the next without actually playing. Not a fan of the new update. Please fix..Version: 5.3.12

Good but buggyI was looking for an alternative to Apple Podcasts and decided on this. Quite good for a free app, but I’d rather pay to have something less buggy. For instance, swiping right on an episode to delete it is allowed sometimes but not others. Also, if you set it to play the next unplayed episode once the current one finishes, often it plays the next *played* episode. But generally it’s workable, has a fairly intuitive interface and has a nice visual design..Version: 4.3.1

Good, but lacks a few smartsFor example when you start listening to a pod series, it always goes from the newest to the oldest and usually you need to start from the beginning! The search function does not find episodes below 100 which means I am scrolling for ages to get to the first ones..Version: 5.7

Poor InterfaceAs many have gone into, this app’s interface makes No sense. There are multiple ways to search for new content, but what I really need is to get to and view the podcasts I’m already listening to and their episodes. The episode list is Infuriating. Every podcast I’ve listened to likes to list and play in reverse order...so, for example, when I finish Episode 5, it will autoplay Episode 4, which I just heard. To make matters worse, the episode lists start with only recent episodes shown and then an option to “see more” - which will let you see the next 5-10. Well, God help you if you’re starting to listen to a Podcast with 100+ episodes, as you’ll have to get used to tapping “See More about 25 times at the start of every listening session. Two stars because it works and many podcasts are available - now just take the time to redo the interface/menus. I’s say ‘fix’ instead of redo, but this steaming pile of hot refuse is beyond repair..Version: 5.0.1

No issues until…So for 4 years Podbean was incredibly reliable. I’m sure it I would leave a 4 or 5 star review if I was still recording. Interestingly enough, when I decided to end my podcast, I knew I would be dumping all my content, they were very clear about that, but what they were not clear about is dumping me as a user! So I still like to listen to other shows, I’m just not producing any more. So when I went to end my subscription which was over a 100 a year, they completely booted me off the platform, I can’t even log into my account or anything, it doesn’t exist, and they still billed me for the following year even though I ended the subscription the day before the billing cycle. Lastly, all my episodes are still downloadable on other platforms even after they supposedly cleaned me out..Version: 5.4.1

BrokenWhenever I select an episode to play, it just keeps cycling through all episodes available without allowing me to play them. Reinstalled the app and tried a bunch of other podcasts, same thing. I’m running the latest iOS version..Version: 5.4

So close to greatI find this a reliable podcast player (I used overcast previously and it somehow downloaded 19gb data overnight grr). It’s a little slow to buffer the podcast when you first hit play, but is okay now I’m used to it. Main feedback: the ‘Following’ section. I want to be able to sort it how I like, eg options of sort by alphabetical or most recently updated. Instead it always reorders so whichever podcast I’ve clicked on most recently goes to the top of the page. (Pretty silly, if I clicked it most recently it’s probably the one I don’t want soonest next time). Also it’s confusing cos the order changes constantly because of that shuffling. Since the latest update the time stated under the followed podcasts is inaccurate. So things say they uploaded a new ep a few hours ago, but there hasn’t been a new ep for a week. Annoying since that’s the information I use most when choosing what to listen to. I have found several new podcasts through browsing on this app which I’m very grateful for. Update: now I can’t reorder podcasts within playlist?! Ugh!! Two more updates have happened and still can’t delete episodes from playlist or reorder playlist 🙄.Version: 4.5.4

Ok, but frustratingLike the layout and how things are organized. However, after using for many months, I am fed up with the CONSTANT loss of memory on where I am at in a given podcast. It is so frustrating to scroll through and find where you left off. This happens all the time. It also is very inconsistent in downloading new episodes automatically. I frequently see that there is a new episode. Yay! Then look at downloads and... nope. Not downloaded. Finally, when streaming, it will often take 4+ minutes for the stream to start. Cellular, wi-fi, doesn’t matter. Quickly check Netflix or other apps on streaming something new.... no problem. Not the connection and not the phone. Podbean will still be waiting... time to move on to something else..Version: 4.5.4

FlawedWhen pausing a podcast to resume later the podcast will only replay from beginning. When removing AirPods and putting them back in the podcast plays for a second before pausing again. Some episodes released same day state they were released 7 days ago. Recommendations all based on something I listened to 2 months ago for 10 minutes instead of based on the 5 hours of various podcasts I subscribe and listen to each week. EDIT: after dev update have to add all above issues have occurred on iPhone 6S and XS max over a period of 6 months before giving up on the app. It’s one thing to say you continually update, it’s another to ignore bugs that render your app useless..Version: 5.1.6

I really want to love thisI’m a binge listener. I love how you can make a playlist and add whatever episode you like from any of your favourites. However, I’m finding that more and more the app will crash midway through a episode and trying to replay it causes buffering for AGES. So much in fact I’ve had to stop the app and restart it, and it does not like it if you try and scroll through to where you left off, it just buffers for ages. I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled but same problem persists. I’ve tried numerous other podcast players but I do really love how this is set out, and you can custom set how you want new episodes to download. It has so much going for it, I hope an additional update will fix the bugging issue I have. Will be happy to amend to five stars if this is sorted 😊.Version: 4.1.7

BuggyUsed to be pretty decent despite nativagtion etc not being the most intuitive. However, recently it hasn’t been saving my place in a podcast making it frustrating to use as I dip in and out throughout the day. This is among other bugs. Seriously considering switching to another app. -update - still buggy! If a moving ad plays on the screen the podcast audio completely stops, useless!.Version: 5.7.2

Great app till the updateI have been using this app for all my podcasts for a few years. I find everything works well, then they do an updated and you start to get issues. Now with the latest update the app won’t download podcasts and as they do the updates you lose a record of what has been listened to. Sometime the podcasts I’m follow won’t show up even though they say I’m following them. Please can you get just one update right. I’m currently looking for a better podcast app..Version: 4.3.0

Good but prefer Podcast GuruThis is good. I use this and Podcast Guru. I prefer the latter because it has no ads, a greater range sleep timer (3 hrs), and an easier way of arranging podcast episodes in a playlist. I still use this because I discovered this far earlier and accumulated so many episodes and, to be fair, I like the smaller shape and vertical arrangement of its playlist thumbnails. Anyway, there are times when I’ll play a podcast episode and it won’t get marked as played or I’ll press download and the episode won’t download. These are minor, easily fixed issues overall this player works decently and does the job..Version: 5.3.8

FrustratingI’m not sure if it’s the interface or what but of the handful of podcast platforms I use (3 in total) Podbean is the least intuitive and the most frustrating to use. If I don’t finish an episode in one sitting I can rarely get it to load up so I can finish, usually I just have to close the app and come back after a few days to see if I can restart it. I also followed a podcast for a while that offered bonus purchase episodes which was something I enjoyed, and I could access them easily, but Podbean killed that option and now the episodes I did purchase are mixed back into 10+ years of episodes by release date and a pain to find, which really is a mood killer. Overall I only use it to listen to the aforementioned purchased episodes I’m still hunting down one by one and adding to a playlist but I don’t use it for anything else and probably won’t unless they make the app better instead of intentionally making it worse..Version: 5.8.1

I don’t know what’s happeningSo I’ve loved this app for about 3 or 4 weeks now and I’ve been really happy with it, it’s the only site I’ve been able to find my favourite podcast on. I listen to this podcast all the time but recently when I try and cast it to my google speaker it crashes and nothing plays. It’s been bothering me for a while and the only solution I’ve done that works is to uninstall and reinstall the app, and that only gets the job done for a day or two that I have to uninstall and reinstall it again. I was hoping that I could get a solution or something at least but yeah, would appreciate it if something was done. Still love the app and it works fine with Bluetooth just the casting is super annoying 👍 Update- the uninstall reinstall thing is no longer working. Quite annoyed but it seems it’s only me having this problem? I’ve made several new accounts and I don’t know what to do about it..Version: 5.9.2

Not showing downloadsSo the app was working really well for the longest time but then suddenly it would tell me new episodes were available to download but when I went into those podcasts, they didn’t show up. While it worked it was good but ….Version: 5.5.1

Battery DrainI thought I’d finally found the prefect podcast app and even better, it’s totally free with no IAP, some of the podcasts play ads at the beginning but it’s hard to know if that’s the app or the podcast content creators own deals. Either way, I loved everything about this app, the ability to comment to the podcasters, the ability to curate own playlists with a mix of episodes from a variety of cast, the ability to speed up playback, timer and a elegant yet easy to navigate user face. I’ve even found several more fave podcasts that I’d never have come across on casts, sadly though this seems to guzzle my battery. It’s def this app. I installed on my phone and can usually have podcasts playing while I sleep but phones flat by morning with this app. Initially put it down to oldish phone but sadly have a brand new iPhone 8 and on running this app there’s a big diff in battery drain in comparison to using casts. Old phone fine as can listen and charge at same time, however with no headphone jack it’s problematic, I have wireless headphones but don’t like them for sleeping in and I’m reluctance to buy wireless earphones when I have several pairs of good ones already, sole purpose of purchasing anymore would be so I can plug in to use this app and listen at same time. Ill keep installed just because I like how the catalogue is presented but I’m still looking for the perfect podcast app..Version: 4.3.1

Not Able to PauseThis podcast service is unfortunately not useable on my iphone, because it will not restart after pausing, even after closing and restarting the application. Also, when I first downloaded and registered, I got a strange email from them, addressed to a name that wasn’t mine. Even after emailing Podbean about it, that name still appears on my personal account. I’m about to delete the app from my phone, and go back to listening to podcasts directly from the original source..Version: 5.0

Awful AppConstantly plays the wrong episode at times..Version: 5.6.1

Breaking up with wholesomeWhen I mentioned it in conversation, a friend asked, "Podbean? I don't know that app." I said, "Just a podcast app with the name BEAN in it so you know it must be wholesome!!!" Then I actually __*thought*__ about our relationship. Why did I put up with it?! The constant "no connection" message, even when connected to WiFi. The difficulty rewinding, which left me waiting for many long minutes for the audio to randomly reload-- like the anxiety for a text response from a date, you fear, is just not that into you. Pressing backup 30 seconds several times only to end up at the same minute mark! Talk about poor communication. Or opening the app with anticipation only to see the Discover page with suggestions that made me feel like you didn't even know me. Sometimes, Podbean, I don't even know why we did this. I think you just seemed so good, so genuine, but now I see that you don't nourish or support me at all. You'll call me a sell out, but I need to go with someone bigger; more reliable. Thanks for the memories; I wish you well..Version: 5.3.9

Unresolved issuesI have been using this platform from some months now and at first it worked great and I loved all the new features that my other platform didn’t have. However, for the last few weeks I have had many problems with the mobile app, which is what I always used. I can’t end my live recording, it just continues even after I press the end button and close the app. I can no longer upload my live to my podcast on the app either. This is a big problem for me. If it would work properly as it did before I would have given 5 stars but do to these unresolved issues it only gets 3 and I almost gave 2. These problems are really causing an issue for me..Version: 5.7.2

It works on a basic, below average level*I used this app as a listener only* tldr: not user friendly/unintuitive app that works for listening… sometimes. The app overall is not convenient/easy to use. It’s not intuitive, you have to find and figure out the weird ways to use it and get what you want from the podcast app. It’s particularly annoying that you have to make your own podcast page, when you have no intention of creating a podcast, just to listen or become a patron. The patron program is especially aggravating. Signing up isn’t easy and canceling is impossible. I shouldn’t be surprised since the app has never been user friendly. The basic point of the podcast, listening, is inconsistent too. At times an episode just won’t play or won’t save your place mid episode. I’ve also noticed that there will be parts of my podcasts that are soundless… I thought it was an issue with the upload or creator but then I realized it was happening during several different podcasts. When I listened to the episodes on a different app, there was no break/silence and I was hearing parts of the episode I missed before. I was using this app because my favorite podcast was hosted here and used Podbean for their patron program. I am SO excited they are moving to a different app with an easier/better patron program and host site so I don’t have to use this app again..Version: 5.3.10

Terrible interface, buggy, frustratingUsing this on an iPad and it is so frustrating how many times the app crashes or stops randomly. Getting it started requires having to navigate an amazingly user unfriendly interface. Want to access the player controls? Scroll, scroll, scroll and finally get to the controls at the bottom of massive ads for other podcasts. Illogical! The actual controls are tiny compared to the amount of space taken up by the podcast icon. Why? Surely they’re the most important part? Got a web link to a podcast on Podbean? It’s useless. Won’t take you anywhere but the app home page. What’s the point of podcast web links if they don’t take you to the actual show? Despite all this it is still better than the Apple podcast app, which speaks volumes about the shocking quality of the apple app. UPDATE: lowered to 1 star due to the latest version removing all my unplayed and mid played podcasts. Gone. More than annoying..Version: 5.1.5

It’s more reliable than Apple Podcasts.I only started using this app after the IOS 13.5.1 update destroyed my phone and I deleted as many proprietary apps as possible to prolong my battery life. As I’ve stated, Podbean is a more reliable app but the sound quality is poor by comparison and there’s a bizarre problem with shows speeding up at random for short bursts. I’ll continue using Podbean until Apple sort out the problems with IOS 13.5.1 but don’t expect I’ll continue using it beyond that due to the problems aforementioned..Version: 5.3.0

Crashes after latest updateThe app doesn’t open after the recent update. Also the app is slow, laggy and doesn’t remember where you left on on more than one occasion. Downloading and flicking through a podcast can be a nightmare no matter how fast your broadband is. It really needs sorted. Apple podcasts is still far better because of how smooth and easy it is to use. Fix the speed, crashing, simplify the layout and Podbean could be great..Version: 4.3.3

I wanted to love this app...I originally posted 5 stars after switching to Podbean. I did love several of the features of this app that I didn’t have with others, and it never crashed. It also downloaded episodes quickly (I didn’t have mine set to auto download, just chose the individual episodes I wanted), and the downloads deleted immediately after they finished playing space and time. HOWEVER, I just deleted the app. Podcasts I listened to daily would disappear from my feed. I would have to search for them again to follow and listen. I thought it was me at first, maybe an accident with my touch screen. But then it did again, more than once, it happened with more than one show. I reached out to customer service, but the response was completely useless. Even if they didn’t/don’t have a fix or answer at the moment, the response could have been handled better. I would have preferred them not to answer at all than what I received. I was too annoyed at that point to keep trying. Promptly deleted..Version: 5.0.1

ConfusingI came across Podbean while searching the net. I am finding it very confusing to navigate and I am not sure if I am being charged for listening (I used my Appleid to download it from the App Store) I am sure there is lots of very interesting content that is well worth listening to, but I am finding that being presented with a massive gallery of podcasts quite intimidating. I shall probably delete it and stick with the Apple Podcast App..Version: 5.5.4

Literally the most buggy and worst podcast appI only use this app because it has a backlog of my favorite podcast. Outside of that: -Stupid to navigate. -Buffers indefinitely on a strong wifi connection until I close and restart the app -Several of my podcasts have “-1233% left” or something equally obscure. -Downloading takes a strangely long amount of time compared to other apps, far below my wifi download speed is capable of -Trying to skip forward or backward is a nightmare -Navigating or trying to play/pause from lockscreen works about 10% of the time -A range of other bugs. When I start playing a podcast on wifi, I expect it to download the full episode immediately so that I can leave wifi without it losing connection and stop playing. That is a basic necessity for a podcast app. I shouldn’t need to remember to download all the possible episodes I plan to listen to before I get in my car for a morning commute. Other podcasts apps do this, even the default iPhone podcast app. I’m running iPhone 14 pro with latest software updates. I don’t know how there are so many positive reviews for this app, the developers clearly aren’t trying to make the best app that they can..Version: 5.7.3

Half halfNothing wrong with the podcast and there are quality options plenty. Welcome one and all and enjoy. But… the app itself is not good. Twitchy, slow and awkward. Don’t pause, ever, cause you’re never getting back to that story again. If you just press play and never touch another option you’re ok otherwise you may not enjoy this experience. Update- I can’t even listen to a single episode, it never returns, never ever pause, randomly chooses episodes, loves to play same ones, it’s like I’m stuck in a podcast vortex. Podcasts sound great but the app not worth it. AVOID..Version: 5.8.1

$12.99 per yearIt’s not clear in the app description that to get rid of ads this will cost 12.99 A YEAR..Version: 4.3.8

Nice design but too many bugsI turned to Podbean when my favorite podcast app shut down. I generally use it when driving, so of course had the auto play next episode setting enabled. It does not play the next episode. It hops around skipping forward several episodes. You have to restart the app close it down, open it again, then manually go to the next episode. Obviously, this isn’t ideal when you’re in a car driving, and can’t constantly grab your phone and stare at the screen to start and restart an app. Hopefully I can find a different app to use that has better functionality. On the plus side, the app interface is pleasing, it’s easy to search, like the design and layout. If I was using it from home or work, it wouldn’t be as much of an issue to have to start and restart the app. But considering I do most of my listening while driving, this app simply won’t work for me..Version: 5.9.0

Great app but...Podbean will, at any given time interval, randomly decide to forgot what I’ve been listening to and not allow me to continue a podcast from the place where I left off. This forces me to start again or spend time trying to find my place; difficult when a lot of pod casts I listen to are well over an hour. This might happen the next day, but it’s even happened 10 minutes after putting it down! Very frustrating for what is otherwise a very accessible and intuitive app..Version: 4.5

Interface touchedHas potential, needs a little work on the interface. Some tips on usability from the podcasts app would do it wonders ..Version: 4.1.2

Locks you out of your account when payment is dueI recently was charged another yearly fee despite not using the account for 10months and then my card expiring so nothing could be debited. However after a few emails from podbean with one stating that my account is no longer active and should I choose to continue the service I will need to pay. I was worried that once I get a new card they will attempt to take the fee again without notice. So I went to log into my account to find out I could not gain access unless I pay the fee So I could not even access the account to remove my card details And then once I updated my expiry date, they charged me instantly, I have since sent three emails to pod bean with no answer from them on the matter. I am a novice user of this service and was trying something out, to which my life changed direction and no longer use this service as anyone at podbean would acknowledge to be true but yet will still take your money, make it hard for you to disconnect the device and not even get back to you. If there is another device providing similar product I would use them before these guys.Version: 5.8.0

I AM VERY IRRITATEDI downloaded this app because I wanted to listen to the Speak of the devil podcast and I can only seem to find it one here, it’s taken me four days to get through two episodes because your app is so bad. The episode will just stop and buffer for HOURS and I’ve tried logging out and in again, restarting my phone, uninstalling and re installing but none of it works. I’m now stuck on episode two waiting if maybe I will be able to listen to my podcast in a few more hours. It’s caused me so many tears and so much stress you’ve got to fix this honestly, it’s so annoying. Your app is basically unusable....Version: 5.1.9

Virtually unusableI’m sorry to be so negative, but this app is genuinely not worth the effort to download. I only use it to access the premium content from the podcasts using Podbean to host (because unlike other premium programs they won’t let you use your podcast app of choice). Episodes are terribly slow to load, play with frequent loading interruptions on very good internet signals, the UI is clunky and funnily enough there’s always enough bandwidth to throw never ending irrelevant video ads. I’d be inclined to pay for the ad free if I thought there was any chance it would fix the ability to play. Really frustrating to use, to the point I want to contact my premium podcasts and beg them to move to another service..Version: 5.3.10

DisappointingVery disappointed that after paying for a yearly subscription I have made favorites of all my books but many have file errors and won’t play even more frustrating is that I can see others have same issue repeatedly and nothing being done about it should have stayed as a free app feel I have wasted my money.Version: 5.5.2

Counterintuitive setupI really want to enjoy this app. But everything about it feels backwards, and there’s no option to sort the locked episodes in with the standard ones based on date, which makes keeping up to date super difficult. For some reason downloading episodes is also separate from the original location, and I have no option to have it automatically deleted after I listen to it from that different location, which makes me spend a lot of time on the unsorted list, rather than just seeing the ones I have left to listen to. Clicking on an episode automatically begins the recording, rather than popping up with options about it. What happens when you tap the wrong episode? Now it’s redirected you to a new page, and you’ve got to backtrack to get to the right one. It’s exhausting, honestly, and if I didn’t have to use it to reasonably access the bonus content I get, I would just delete it. I wonder if they’ve got an access link that I can punch into Overcast..Version: 4.3.0

HorribleI had a 5 minute podcast and it didnt even save dont get this app.Version: 5.9.2

Can’t Scrub without BufferI like this app because the podcasts I listen too are available on it. What I don’t like is that when I attempt to scrub forward by sliding the little marker ahead, on any podcast, there is always a long buffer period where the “play” button turns into the spinning circle. This goes on literally every time I attempt to jump ahead in a podcast. Doesn’t matter if I’m on wifi or not. As I’m writing this review, I’ve been waiting for my podcast to start playing after I attempted to jump to a random mark in the show. I contacted support months ago when I first got tired of this issue but the round and round led me to believe they had no idea what I was talking about as they wanted me to send them an example of the issue...so a screenshot?!?!! How would that help?!!? Hopefully it gets fixed because the “other” podcast app is barely usable either with it’s constant “can’t connect right now errors”...Version: 5.0.1

Works well. Glitchy recently.Enjoy listening to various podcasts. Sound quality is good. Usually loads well (sometimes error downloading). Starting in about Dec23, I noticed it no longer saves my place when I stop mid podcast - if I stop a podcast (done with my walk, done with my drive etc) and try to come back later, nearly always I have to manually forward to when I think I left off, fiddling around to not relisten to content which is a waste of time and frustrating. It used to stop where I stopped and then when I hit play it just resumed which was a great convenience. Now even after a short break I have to manually find where I left off. Very frustrating. PodBean was where I first started listening to podcasts but I’m about to go find another app for them..Version: 5.9.3

Watch out for the tone!!!!I just downloaded this app and went to record my first podcast. I would have presumed that the tone set to 0 would mean my natural voice would be recorded. In fact, I would presume that like all other recording devices, my normal, natural voice would be recorded, but no...I sounded like Mickey Mouse’s cousin. Total waste of time and I have to bin 25 minutes because I sound like I’m five years old. Would not recommend for this reason alone! Totally disappointed. Ps. In response to the developer, I used my headset. But I would have never thought that the tone set to zero would automatically augment my voice..Version: 5.1.6

Nice podcast app but some annoying issuesI replaced the Apple poscast app with Podbean and it was a great improvement. Being able to search for older podcast is a must. Sadly some issues are making the app annoying to use. First podcast are not found by the app as soon as they are released. Then the auto download doesn’t work when multiple episode are released at the same time, the download indicator is very buggy. I had issues where when I resume a poscast, it wouldn’t start where I stopped last time. The whole app feel a bit buggy. The ads are a shame on the free version..Version: 5.7.2

Insanely frustrating appI am a podcaster who uses podbean to host my show. I got a comment today and instead of just being able to respond to the comment on my computer it forces me to use the app. First I download and then it gives me a listener account and I can’t respond to the comment. Once I get this all sorted out I finally find the comment then it won’t let me respond. I can’t access the comment. I try over and over to respond. Then I finally get to type something and it kicks me out after one line making my response sound short and frustrated with the listeners comment. The whole system is very glitchy and should be 100% scrapped and started over in my opinion. This is enough for me to seriously consider another host who has their systems up and running correctly. There is no reason why should be forced to use an app just to respond to a fan. Please fix this!.Version: 5.1.7

Great app with great features, but still buggyI love this app with all it's features, especially the control that you have over playlists, and batch managing podcast episodes. It's perfect for someone like me who listens to nearly 20 episodes a week of different podcasts. However, there are a couple of small bugs that keep me from rating it five stars. When I'm connected to a Bluetooth device, the first time I try to play from the app, it will stop immediately. I have to press play a second time for a podcast to play. Second, the app will not always delete played episodes from a playlist. And third, the app will often disappear from the lock screen when paused. Edit: I dropped my review from four to three stars because the app stopped automatically playing the next episode, even after turning the option off and back on and restarting the app..Version: 5.1.3

Podcasts never workThis app is really good… when its working. It constantly never plays podcasts especially when you are midnway through a podcast and come back to listen to it, it will always have the loading circle of death but never actually loads. This now happens more often than not and i’m scared if i dont finish a podcast that it will do it.Version: 5.5.1

Needs a recently played tabI’ve not listend to much on here as I downloaded this app to hear a specific podcast (I listen on iTunes normally) the thing I find annoying is it’s not obvious how to find your library. I’ve only subscribed to one podcast but I can never find it easily I have to go into my profile and find it. Also when I’m halfway though listening and I want to pick up where I left off I have to go I’m and search for it again. Instead of having a recently played section.Version: 5.1.6

App doesn’t function as advertisedI’m sorry to be solely negative but this app simply doesn’t function properly when streaming episodes, AVOID it at all cost as there are plenty of other podcast apps that function correctly. This app fails at its simplest task, streaming podcasts. Unless you download the episode prior to listening it won’t work correctly. The episode will skip randomly to the next episode while trying to buffer or the audio will cut yet the episode will continue playing without sound until you attempt to skip forward or back. Also when selecting an episode to stream it will buffer for several seconds before seemingly giving up and simply moving down the list to the next episode where it will attempt to play that episode, often failing again and continuing the process down the list. Downloading episode first will solve most of these issues but it shouldn’t be necessary and isn’t always possible. TLDR: Doesn’t function as advertised. !!!AVOID AT ALL COST!!!.Version: 5.4.1

Crashes so much I can’t use the appAs others have said, this app is totally unusable unless you want to listen to an entire episode in one, uninterrupted stream. If you pause, stop it playing for any reason, knock your headphones out etc. the app will crash and not work again for that episode for anything short of pretty much deleting and reinstalling the app. I can’t believe that anything is so unfit for its primary purpose - don’t really see the point of this app if you can’t actually listen to podcasts on it..Version: 5.3.5

Works, but has annoying featuresConstantly resets to default home view, so you can’t find what you were listening to again. Hides favourites, so I have to constantly use search to find the station I want. The menu system is horrible and user-unfriendly. The picture ads are annoying but do close when the x is pressed. The ads need vetting because some are 18+. Most of the ads are for trash products. Often does not show the latest podcast that you know is there, even when sort by date used. The whole GUI needs redesigning..Version: 4.5.4

Love/HateI have a love/hate relationship with Podbean. I’m a podcast addict and listen to 4-10 a day. I love that they have so many podcasts that I cannot find anywhere else. Love the choices in speed playback. Also, I love that it is easy to share with others, even if they don’t have an account. The isssues I have are with the tech problems. I often have issues with using the FF button and linking to AirPods. Sometimes it also will not locate specific episodes in search, but when I try later using the exact same terms it works. I find I only use Podbean for podcasts I can’t get elsewhere, but would use as my main app if the tech issues were resolved..Version: 5.7.2

PerformanceThe app freezes and then crashes when participating in live podcasts. It easily crashes and becomes so slow making it not enjoyable to use on iPhone and iPad. Also, can you let the keypad stop disappearing after each text when typing comments on a live show. Makes typing very daunting. Thank you..Version: 5.9.3

AverageI don't know if it's just me but the app is really glitchy. When you open the list podcasts from one creator, it requires pressing refresh button instead of refreshing the list automatically. If you wanna forward audio, it does not work 3 out of 4 times. downloading file does not work from the first time too. It's 2019 and the app brings me back old and unstable to iOS days. On a bright side, intelligent speed works really well, like that feature a lot..Version: 5.0.3

FrustratingI don’t know if the below was ever sent as here it sits when I went to review again. I am changing from 3 stars to 1 star. If BARDSFM was not on Podbean I would discard it. Not only does all of the below continue to happen, the episodes change on me - once I choose one, it frequently jumps to one next to it…over and over. I have an iPhone XR and an older iPad. I DO, however, enjoy the chat feature on live broadcast - mostly reading, not participating. PLUS- since downloads are automatic, I had trouble with data storage. So did my sister - we went to Geek Squad and if I wasn’t there to point them to Podbean as a possible cause, they may not have figured it out. OLD Review: [Podbean carries one of my favorite podcast followings. I never investigated how the live chat works, etc — that’s on me. However, trying to advance the recorded episode times frustrates me because it buffers and buffers. E.g.: wanting to move past the beginning to when an interview starts; or wanting to “slide” it back to the beginning. I even tried to get out of Podbean and re-enter to hopefully reset, but it still kept the episode to where I left off (which, in some circumstances would be good, if one could easily maneuver the time-line). I am not tech-y, and respect your efforts. I am just telling you how it is with me. Thanks.].Version: 5.5.4

Functional, but not intuitiveI can listen to podcasts, but it’s not easy to find them along with the recommendations that seem to foist themselves upon you (they seem to have disappeared after the seventh time of deletion). Confusing pop-up messages regarding ‘filters’ with no further assistance are an annoyance too. Sorry, I really wanted to like my experience =(.Version: 5.5.3

Subscription will not sync across platforms!I have an iPhone that I made a subscription on, but I also have a Google pixel tablet. Now you would think since you have a subscription that it would carry to another device, but that doesn’t seem to be the case! That is unethical! I will not be renewing my subscription! Buyer beware! To the developer: I have sent you an email and waiting for your response. Day two and still waiting for a response from the developer. I hope he didn’t email me just to make himself look good due to this bad review. UPDATE RESPONSE TO DEVELOPER: I don’t know why you’re telling me to “wait with patience for a response”. You’ve already responded to me and so that’s why I already updated my review a couple weeks ago! My response still stands. You are requiring two subscriptions for each platform. This, as I stated above, is unethical. It is unethical because you do not this stipulation in your details regarding your app..Version: 5.9.3

The app is beyond glitchy and needs to be fixedIt’s been months since I’ve been using Podbean on a daily basis on my phone, iPad, you name the device. The app is so glitchy and doesn’t let you play the exact episode you want to play! It will start skipping on to a few episodes down the line, even if you’ve clicked on something entirely different!! This is definitely not an internet issue as I’ve used data, 5G and various wifi networks and it always does the same thing!! Please Podbean team fix this issue. It’s really annoying and irritating constantly having to restart the app just to be able to play the exact episode you want to play, this is a very basic thing..Version: 5.7.1

If I could give this half a star, I would.I’ve had more issues with this app than any other since buying my first smartphone. I haven’t been able to access content for a month, even though my payments have still come out of my account. I just deleted and reinstalled the app and now it’s not recognizing me as a user at all, it’s trying to get me to sign up for a new account when I click the reactivate link. I’m hoping my favorite podcast switches hosts soon. I have a Stitcher Premium account as well and have never had a problem with it. Update: just resubscribed to some premium content 6 days ago, and I inexplicably received an email today saying, “this is a confirmation that you have cancelled your subscription to...” I absolutely did not cancel or request a cancellation. I logged in to my account on my laptop and there is no sign of a cancellation and my subscription is still active. What is going on?!.Version: 5.1.8

Dear Podbean, from a loyal user...I’ve always used this app for my podcast addiction. Its most likely my most used app of all time. However, as others have said; it crashes every time i use it, without fail. Usually twice at least (within one episode) it will freeze and load without working again. I have to close the app and find where i left off, only to have more loading issues. Its become so difficult to have an enjoyable listen that I’m finally downloading other apps to potentially replace yours. I don’t know why I’ve stuck with your app all for so long, i guess because i liked every other aspect of it, and i assumed you would fix these issues. I guess i was wrong. Farewell dear Podbean. (Top rate app bean and gone).Version: 4.3.1

InfuriatingThis is one of the worst apps I have ever used. Looking at reviews from over year ago, and the copy and paste responses, I can tell this problem will never get resolved. Without exaggerating, podcasts take between 3 to 5 minutes to start playing. This is while on Wi-Fi, 5G, or even if downloaded. If you ever pause a podcast and come back to the app later, it will not play again. It will skip to a totally random episode and start playing. The only controls are skip backwards 30 seconds, or forward 30 seconds. This is ridiculous and you have to relisten to so much unnecessarily. Although it doesn’t matter, because when you skip backwards, the app freezes, the podcast glitches, it continues playing where you were originally, or it skips to a new episode. Even quitting, the app does not seem to resolve this issue. It will not let you play the podcast from where it was last pause. This is ridiculous and I’m glad I have not paid for any premium edition.Version: 5.9.2

Ok but had some issuesI want to love this ap, but it has some issues. First off, I like the format, the way the podcast are organized, suggested, and searched. It’s user friendly and that’s why I continue to use it. However- lately it’s been a little more difficult to enjoy. It randomly skips episodes unless you download them. So if you want to binge a season in order- download the whole thing. It also doesn’t go to the most recent episode anymore. You have to scroll through all of the listened episodes to get to the new one. Nbd if you are up to date, but if you are starting with the oldest and catching up- can take a while. So. As long as I download episodes I want to binge for the day, the ap is perfect! Does need some work however..Version: 5.7.2

Occasional issues but workableThe app is good for conglomeration your podcast together in an easy to access way. It sometimes struggles to open old episodes in back catalogues, citing an Error Opening File. The occasional dialogue box prompting to rate the app at 5 stars with no other rating option is annoying. There were claims they would change that but they never did..Version: 5.3.10

Good design, poor practicalityApp has many nice features that iOS podcast does not. However, having used it for a few weeks, I find podbean spends waaay too much time "spinning"/loading. If I select backwards or forwards, it can takes minutes(!) to reload the new play position. In that time, I can go across to iOS podcast, find the episode, load it, fast forward to the desired position and play, and podbean will still be waiting!!!!.Version: 4.3.2

Needs to catch up with iOS 11Great app. iOS 11 compatibility is an early issue in need of a fix. I was able to send up the app to my Apple TV before hand, now it isn’t so smooth. Plus, the stream just isn’t going ahead like it used to before iOS 11. It used to stream right through and I knew I could get the whole podcast. But now it buffers very slowly and sometimes the stream dies because the buffering doesn’t hold up in time with the playback. Great app. But it’s the usual update issues that need to be ironed out..Version: 4.1.5

App has glitches like a prototype or beta app.It starts with the fact the app closes by itself for no reason. It will skip the podcast I wanna hear and go to another one in my list, that happens often. The worst is when it goes crazy, starts skipping all my list and end up playing nothing like if it was searching for something. Sometimes in even does the whole list several times before crashing. Already unisntalled, re-installed, same thing. This shouldn’t be out with all those failures..Version: 5.7.4

Quick response from developersI left a poor review after my app quit searching and eventually required me to sign in again, after several years of not requiring anything. The developers got back to me within 24 hours and their fix worked, although I had to set a new password. So the fast response was appreciated. That said, I was traveling and lost my downloads while this problem occurred. Additionally, there was no prompt from the app to tell me that a sign in was required, at least not until I appeared to have lost everything. So still a bit grumpy but giving it app a second try, albeit with two other back up podcast apps..Version: 5.1.6

Has all my podcasts on it but it’s glitchyHas a great selection of podcasts and I like the playlist feature. But the app has been rather glitchy over the 2-3 months I’ve been using it. It frequently doesn’t download new podcasts that are posted from podcasts I am subscribed to, rarely functions on my CarPlay radio, I almost always have to make selections on my phone instead of on the radio because it doesn’t load on CarPlay reliably. Also I don’t like that main page it automatically takes you to isn’t a list of your current podcasts, it takes you to an explore page and I have to click two selections before I even can see what podcasts are downloaded and ready to play..Version: 5.3.0

Useless updatesThis app was amazing! Compared with the useless Apple podcast app it was easy to use. You could tweak it easily to delete listened to episodes, change the order easily (old-new, new-old) and it would always pick up where you left off. For some reason though, the recent updates have made all of these things harder to find and more annoying to use. The episode always just starts from the beginning even if I'm half way through listening (this happens a lot if listening on the way to work) and it's all of a sudden developed a lot of bugs. Sorry Podbean, you were great, but like Apple you've gotten worse by doing pointless updates..Version: 4.3.6

Glitchy, difficult to navigateGlitchy- If I press pause or hit the back button more than once or twice during a podcast, it will stop playing. Won’t go back, won’t go forward, won’t play. I’ve closed and reopened the app. Tried starting a different podcast, then gone back to the one that stopped- no change. The only way it will start again is to close the app for several days (ridiculous) or if I delete and reload the app. Due to this issue I would never use it, but a favorite podcast has bonus content only on Podbean so I listen only to that podcast on the app. Difficult to navigate- I’ve probably got about 30 podcasts saved on my Podcast app. My list of shows and episodes comes up immediately and is easy to navigate and toggle through. Using Podbean is like “50 First Dates”- I’m greeted with a generic home screen with no mention of my listening history and recommendations that clearly aren’t relevant. I have to search for the ONE show I listen to every. single. time. Once you finally get to the show you want, you have to go into a menu to have your episode list refresh- otherwise you’d never know that another episode had been released. Glitchy, not intuitive, cumbersome..Version: 5.3.3

CommercialsThe commercials volume is way to high. Please fix..Version: 5.9.3

Podbean is mediocrePosbean is riddled with annoying adverts that cover half the page, the yearly subscription rate is excessively expensive for a mere podcast player, and Podbean lacks the functionality that other podcast players include as standard. I’d be willing to make a one-off payment to get rid of the ads but you can forget about a yearly subscription. I’m slowly moving my podcast listening to another player..Version: 5.5.1

Good for freeGood app overall but frequently have problems restarting a podcast I’m half way through. Get errors of “Can’t open file” or have to push the Play button several times to get it going again. Many a time I’ve got the irrits and killed the app but that doesn’t resolve it. Have the same problem when restarting. A few times I’ve just given up and moved on to the next podcast which it loads no problems. Normally I wouldn’t review but the app keeps pushing a pop up at me to rate it 5 stars and, well, it just isn’t 5 star material..Version: 5.3.7

Impossible to use unless podcast has been downloadedDevelopers please fix this issue of episodes skipping. And please do not give me your standard response about the app encountering errors blah blah and the best workaround being to download. you have previously given me and another user from quite a while ago the exact same response. It would seem you have no intention of fixing this error..Version: 5.7.2

Mostly works fineThe app is perfectly fine, until you want to skip back, let’s say, 30 seconds or 1 minute to listen to what was just said. The “back 30 seconds” button causes the audio to stop while it spends a lifetime trying to load the previous content. And then it just goes right ahead playing from where you currently are. It doesn’t even skip back. And if you try to use the seek bar to move to a different spot it just completely freezes on the spinning wheel but never loads the audio again until you quit and restart the app. If you are just listening straight through a Podcast it works fine. This happens on both 4G LTE and high speed WiFi.Version: 5.3.3
