✓ It was my favourite cam appI am a news cameraman used to work with big broadcast cameras. I liked Mavis because it’s so fast and it reminds me of broadcast cameras. I’ve bought and tried about 10 cam apps . Mavis was my favourite cam app , together with beastcam , until recently. I could lick the shutter and it woul remain locked, no matter how much I would change the exposure, it’s the only app I know that really locked the shutter. But the horrible ios16 damaged the app and Mavis didn’t care to update their app to fix the problems caused by the new iOS. The shutter is now erratic, for example. I contacted Mavis three times but they never cared to respond..Version: 5.6.2

✓ Paid features won’t unlockEven after I got my receipt from Apple by email, none of the paid features were unlocked. DOA app features are a bad sign for app stability that is critical for live events that will never be repeated. There is also no sign of sound functionality in this app. Expected to see the ability to set sound level, select sound source(s), Bluetooth, monitoring, etc. No apparent capability to hard-select from camera sensors either, which is a huge problem when using external lenses. ✓ Not great with iOS 16I needed something with some control for a shoot I had over the weekend. Even when set on manual, the controls keep going back to default. This app was recommended by a friend who shoots with it regularly, but he has not upgraded to iOS 16 yet. Wasted my money for sure. Thankfully not an expensive app..Version: 5.6.2

✓ Overwhelming UI -> Underwhelming FootageI’ve used many cameras, from Canon, RED, ARRI, as well as the built in iPhone camera and go-to app Filmic Pro, and was expecting a lot more out of Mavis than it delivered for me. The UI just puts everything up on the screen at once, and leaves you with a tiny preview window. I know you can turn some/all of it off, but it ended up feeling like I was gonna have to spend all my time working ON Mavis instead of working IN Mavis. To each his own, I’m gonna stick to the built in camera for quickly getting a shot, and Filmic Pro for when I want to dial my shots in without getting taken out of the moment..Version: 3.1.1
✓ Typically a great app, but a problem has gone unaddressedMavis is actually one of my favorite cinema camera apps, but since the last update 5 months ago, the bit-rate selection in the settings is broken. For example, if I were to select 100mbit with 4k UHD H.264, rather than the bit-rate actually recording at 100 mbps, it records at 56 mbps, and sometimes a smaller number. The same occurs with the other settings such as HD, where it will not even record 50 mbps. I know Mavis has recently made a partnership with Atmos recently, and hope with their new broadcast system, it will provide new spark to Mavis. Updates have dwindled, which is a shame, since it truly is an amazing app..Version: 5.6.2

✓ Good app, some problemsI really like Mavis but it’s not perfect. I dont like having the super long file names as the only option. I’m not crazy about it freezing up semi frequently. It appears the front camera will only shoot 1080p, not 4K. How odd. Seems like you’d almost have to try, not to have that working. I’m not crazy how they don’t reply. ✓ Won’t Find Zhiyun Smooth 4I’m trying to connect my Zhiyun Smooth 4. Bluetooth is on and when I press Scan under Hardware> Zhiyun Gimbal, it doesn’t bring anything up. I did test the gimbal with the ZY Play app and FilmicPro and it works. Mavis looks better then Filmic, but if this problem persists, I’ll have to go with Filmic..Version: 5.5.0
✓ Not JustifiedIt might be a good paid version but you cannot justify spending money on something you cannot review. There is no free trial or ability to check how good are its function before you commit to spend your money. The developer would gain so much by even enabling short trial so that potential users can review their features. At a glance... unfortunately you can’t find out if you can shoot in flat or log or use an external microphone unless you buy the add-ons first (which are more expensive that FilmicPro so I presume it will. It would of course be nice to know this info before you spend money on the add-ons. I suspect this is why the app isn’t as popular as some others!! ✓ Latest update intro’d multiple bugsControls are mushed up now on the left side. Setting custom frame rates now requires tapping continuously, as you can no longer press and hold. Not sure yet what else is broken, but now won’t be using it for the project I was aiming to start shortly. I don’t want to risk it. Funny, this app barely ever gets updated, so I jumped on the “bug fix” release, and now it’s partially broken. ✓ Mavis app fails using iPad 12 Pro… ☹️I have no issues with the iPhone however, on the iPad 12 Pro Max the viewing of the screen holding the iPad in the normal position with the cameras in their usual top right corner upright, the viewing through the app is upside down??? I have been unable to fine a setting to correct this serious issue. The iPad screen rotating lock is unlocked as is normal Note: I have reached out to the developers of this app twice using their email support regrettably not receiving any replies to either email. ✓ Won't shoot 4kI purchased this app to shoot 4k video with the front facing camera on my iPhone 12. The app lets me select 4k in the recording settings but when I hit done it goes back to 1080p. I purchased the bundle that allows me to adjust the recording settings and the iPhone 12 is capable of shooting 4k with the front facing camera but the app won't let me do it. ✓ Good app, HDR video not working on 12 pro maxIn general you should already know whether you want this app as an alternative to Protake or filmic. My experience was good so I purchased, but then when I test the outputted video which was recorded with the hdr toggle on - it turns out to be 8bit sdr. ✓ No AirPod supportNo AirPod support. When you go to the MAVIS website to learn about audio input options, they give you a very positive feeling about having options for external audio input. It would sure be nice if they would actually mention the number one wireless mic option that people around the world use with their iPhone, which is AirPods. There’s no support for AirPod input. So annoying that their support section is focussed on marketing, rather than telling it the way it is upfront..Version: 5.6.2

✓ Inconsistent results in manual mode...There’s quite a few problems with this app (iPhone Xs Max) and paid for the full version: 1. Weird smearing of skin tones - inconsistently too. Even with the same manual settings, in the same light, sometimes you get great results and others a weird smearing. 2. If you switch from the front camera (1080p) back to the rear camera, it defaults back to 1080p, not 4K. 3. Intermittently, the rear camera will show a mirrored image - weird! 4. Stabilization doesn’t seem to crop in or change anything - I’m not even sure it’s working. It’s got a lot of potential, but the #1 problem prevents me from recommending it..Version: 5.4.1

✓ Software Good/No Tech SupportI like what the software can do but I can’t connect it to the Zhiyun gimbal. It’s as if the software doesn’t actually initiate a scan for devices. The app has access to Bluetooth and Bluetooth is turned on but no luck. The Zhiyun shooting software connects right away. I say no tech support because I emailed Mavis a month ago and followed up two weeks after that but I’ve never heard anything from them..Version: 5.5.0
✓ No Apple Log with iPhone 15 Pro and no external SSDI’ve used Mavis for a while but am very disappointed to see that it does not support Apple Log on iPhone 15 pro. It also does not allow you to use an external SSD drive. Worst of all it does not allow you to record in ProRes on the iPhone 15 Pro as it did on the iPhone 14 Pro. Not really a fully functional pro app. The Blackmagic iPhone Camera app does all three..Version: 6.1.1

But, with the last update, I lost all the pro features that I've paid for!! It asks me to pay to access the more advanced controls etc. As a freeware app. I don't even believe this is right!
