Northern Lights Photo Taker for Negative User Reviews

Doesn't workI had high hopes but it doesnt work for the Northern Lights. It is just an all black picture..Version: 1.1

I wish I could give it negative stars.I got this app on the suggestion of a tour guide in Iceland while out hunting down a good spot to view the Northern Lights. However, it wouldn’t work. Basically I got a bunch of black pictures, although in all fairness one picture did get a faint red glow from the bus lights...I can’t believe I actually paid for this..Version: 1.1

Makes your camera worse on new iPhones.Anyone with an iPhone 10 or 11, avoid this as it just doesn’t work. The camera on its own takes great photos, then using this app you get nothing but a black screen. Amazingly this somehow makes taking a photo of the thing it is designed to do, much worse..Version: 1.1

Do not buy this appDoes nothing. Scam. Want a refund..Version: 1.0

Not as good as the reviewsI have an iPhone & the normal camera is rubbish when trying to take photos of the NorthernLights so I checked out the apps, this 1 had really good reviews, easy to use & only 99p so I thought brilliant. Oh no it was rubbish!!! Followed the easy instructions but still could get a picture, just darkness. I could see them in the sky but this app wasn’t picking them up, I tried it on all the different strength settings but no joy. Glad my boyfriends phone was getting amazing pictures otherwise I would have been even more p***ed off..Version: 1.1

Waste of money!I brought it while travelling to Tromso, Norway, I wasn’t expecting dslr quality but it didn’t pick up any lights at all. I placed the phone on the windscreen to keep it from moving/shaking and despite lights being all around all I have is black photos. Unless you own a purpose built camera with shutter speed, iso setting, a tripod and remote save your money and time and just look up and enjoy..Version: 1.0

Doesn’t workEvery time I go to the app it always says I need to accept the permissions and let my phone use the app but when I press the show me button it just takes me to my settings and the app doesn’t appear anywhere in my settings.Version: 1.0

You could get better pics without itIn Iceland right now and this app takes pics of just wide expanses of night sky. Nothing shows up. I have never been as disappointed as I have been with this app. The lights are beautiful, but this app will do nothing for your ability to capture them. You will still need a camera, tripod and skill..Version: 1.1

Not even closeAs mentioned by another review, setting it to weak is the only way to get anything on photos. Even so, the image is so faint, you don't know what you are looking at. I played around with custom settings too to no avail. This is a complete waste of money. Other free apps did a much better job. Do not rely solely on this app. You will be disappointed in failing to capture once-in-a-lifetime experiences..Version: 1.0

Does not workI am not able to allow this app to access the camera on my phone. The app does not even show up in my list of apps in my Settings. When I tried the “app support” option, the listed page no longer exists..Version: 1.0

Doesn’t workDoesn’t work. Even tried the recommended settings but still doesn’t work. Just a waste of my money!.Version: 1.1

Don't waste your money!I downloaded the app and paid fir it. It doesn't work - all you gat are black photos even when in daylight. How on earth did apple let this rip off an app get published?.Version: 1.0

Black boxThe app wasn't able to pick up anything for some fairly bright lights. Save your money and get procam for free, it was able to take some from the same night. Of course it's no replacement for a real camera, but if your phone is all you have, skip this one..Version: 1.0

Use your iPhone app insteadYou are much better off using your iPhones actual camera. I wasted my experience watching the northern lights using this app, it’s hard to determine what setting to use and any bit of shakiness will ruin the whole photo. Definitely would not recommend.Version: 1.1

Poor app! Do not buy!Very poor app, try other options before purchasing. Does not deliver!.Version: 1.0

Does not workI downloaded this app to use on the NorthernLights in Iceland. Now have 9 pictures of nothing but the dark!! Got slightly less dark pictures from my basic camera phone. High level of disappointment achieved from exposure to this app only!!.Version: 1.1

Save your 99 centsI have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. It takes pretty good northern lights photos, but I thought this app could help me take even better pics. Wrong! I deleted every single photo taken with this app… the pics were awful..Version: 1.1

Bought this as I was going to NorwayI bought this, as did my friend, as we were going on the Hurtigruten cruise in Northern Norway to see the lights. Well we are on the ship and the lights have appeared for the last two nights but the app doesn’t work on my iPhone or iPad nor my friends Samsung..Version: 1.1

Doesn’t Work on iPhone 11 ProIt immediately starts firing off photos as soon as it launches then crashes on an iPhone 11 Pro. But with an iPhone 11 Pro the included Night Mode with the Apple camera app likely works better so this app isn’t needed. I used to recommend this app to participants in my Aurora tours but not now. Buy at your own risk..Version: 1.1

Doesn’t work!I downloaded this app to take a picture of the northern lights. Safe to say didn’t work at all, I saw the most vibrant northern lights and all I got was pitch black pictures on my phone. Don’t waste your money!.Version: 1.1

Waste of money.I bought this app for a trip to Norway because I hoped it would take better photos than my camera did. Sadly it really didn’t do very well - better than my iPad alone which captured nothing, but my (not very expensive) camera took much better shots. I have deleted it..Version: 1.0

Don't waste your moneyIn Reykjavik bought this app and despite trying all the different settings all i got was a black screen. The most annoying thing is you have to keep going out of the app to review the photos. The lights were bright and there was a meteor shower with clear clear skies tonight so must be the app. Very disappointed would like a refund.Version: 1.0

If you have a newer iPhone with long exposure on it use that insteadApp is good if you have an older iPhone If you have a newer one with the 3second long exposure nighttime setting use that instead. Had great results with the iPhone standard nighttime mode in Reykjavik and wished I’d never paid for this app..Version: 1.1

Didn’t workI brought this as was recommenced by an Iceland tour. It didn’t pick anything up at All my photos were just pitch black. It was a rating of 3/9 to see the northern lights so didn’t help and you couldn’t really see them with your bare eye. Maybe the app only works when they’re at their brightest but didn’t work for me.Version: 1.1

$.99 out the windowThis is pure junk. I bought it before an excursion in Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The lights were very strong, but this app mostly brought up a black screen. Once in a while I caught a glimpse of the lights with it, but then the screen went black again. I tried all the settings, but to no avail. And, yes, I gave it access to my camera after I first downloaded it. I just took shots from my iPhone 11, and they were spectacular. This was recommended by an article about taking photos of the Northern Lights with smartphones, but I’m quite positive now that it was a paid endorsement. Save a buck and find another app..Version: 1.1

Didn’t work!Wasted my $1 on this. My friends and I got it app for our Iceland trip. We saw northern light at the outskirts of the city but the app couldn’t capture anything. Then we saw the northern light again in the city with our bare eyes. We lifted up our iPhones to capture. The simple iPhone 7 camera can capture the light, BUT NOTHING WITH THIS APP! So disappointed!.Version: 1.0

TerribleThe worst app I’ve ever bought. Did not work at all. Avoid!.Version: 1.1

Difficult to customizeI just downloaded this app and it may be great on the auto settings (haven’t had a chance to try) but the customization seems nearly impossible to use—very hard to see since text changed to yellow, sliders give wrong values (sometimes go up to right, sometimes down, and when you return to it, the value changed from what you set), and no interpretation of the settings (what’s the difference between shutter and expose ? Is color the color temperature and what units, which way is tint going when you change settings?). Needs LOTS MORE instructions, descriptions and repair of slider malfunction..Version: 1.1

Very disappointedWish I had taken the time to read the reviews before I had purchased but as it had been recommended I purchased without checking. Very basic app simple to use but unfortunately the ISO only goes up to 704. Very disappointing!!!.Version: 1.1

Didn’t workI installed this app when I was in Iceland 2 weeks ago. We had two nights of amazing northern lights activity and I was anxious to take photos on my iPhone. I started Shooting and the camera just kept clicking, maybe 7 times each time I clicked the shutter. I thought this was normal and then found out it wasn’t. Anyway, all I got were several totally black photos. I never got one photo of the northern lights other than photos sent to me by traveling companions. I tried again the next night with the same results. The app did not work for me..Version: 1.1

If you have an iPhone Pro Max you do not need thisWas shakey, slow to use and didn’t take pictures a quarter as beautiful as simply using the night mode of iPhone pro max. Waste of money if you have this phone.Version: 1.1

Not helpfulI probably should have done a bit more research in the difference between Northern Lights photo Apps... my bad. I didn’t find this one very useful (most of mine came out as rather dark tie-dyed blobs) but luckily was on a trip with others who had better apps and got better photos... good luck....Version: 1.1

IPhone 11 or newer? Skip this appI was in the Arctic and only had my iPhone 11 with me so I was quick to buy on a peer recommendation without checking the reviews first. Unfortunately this app doesn’t seem to work at all for at least the newer iPhones (11 and up). While I did see it work well in the peers phone, their phone was much older (5s maybe?). The native camera app crushes this unusable app. After the initial stress and disappointment of this app, I sorted out how to use the native camera and got great shots of the Auroras. So if you’re not currently stuck in 2015, save the $.99. Stabilize your phone and leverage the up to 30 second timed exposure option on your native camera app..Version: 1.1

Dont waste your moneyDreadful photos, Waste of money.Version: 1.1

Did not work at allI have the iPhone 11pro and got this app to take aurora pictures in Alaska. Tried several different days, times ,to use the app. All we got was a black picture. The cell phone by itself was taking better pictures. Total waste of 99 cents. Maybe the app doesn't work with the new phones?.Version: 1.1

Waste of moneyI purchased this app in hopes of catching the northern lights in Iceland. It was a level 3 night so the lights were not strong. This app caught nothing on a tripod. My DSLR caught beautiful pics! So disappointed. Didn’t expect it to catch pics like my DSLR but something would have sufficed. I got black pictures. Bummer!.Version: 1.0

AwfulI tried using this in Iceland when staring at the Northern Lights on October 19, 2021, it was crap and buggy. I just used the iPhone camera app which auto adjusted for the best settings and I got great pics of the Northern Lights. Waste of money..Version: 1.1

You don’t need this appIt turns out my phone‘s camera (iPhone 13) took better pictures than this app..Version: 1.1

Doesn’t work on ios 12 and iPhone XSI bought the app but can’t allow me to use the camera The app doesn’t show on app list. Probably is a iOS 12 or iPhone xs limit Can’t also complain or have money back Don’t buy if you have a newer iPhone.Version: 1.0

Waste of $If you really thinking of having those green clear northern lights , you better download some pictures on google. Unless you have a professional camera , you are not getting any good quality picture. Don’t waste a dollar not your hope on this app.Version: 1.1

Worst appWorst app.Version: 1.1

Not worth a dollarI tried to use this last night in Iceland. Unless the lights are bright enough (which apparently is rare) it won't pick up anything and will be black. I couldn't get it to work, so I used my own eyes to look, which was much more rewarding! Wouldn't pay for the app, any digital camera probably has enough settings to take better pictures..Version: 1.0
