Word of the Day・English Vocab for Positive User Reviews

Simple and sweetI look forward to the daily words I get cos you might have a word you know very well, even if it’s a strange one, or you’ll be blindsided by something you’ve never heard of before. Anyone that’s a writer is gonna love seeing these random words pop up - I keep favouriting ones I want to use eventually as they’re so specific or fun sounding!.Version: 1.9

Best vocab appI like how easy the app is to use instead like other app, they have constant ads popping and very inconvenient style.Version: 2.1

Love this app!!I really love this app, I have wanted to enrich my vocabulary for a while but didn’t really know where to start, this does all the work for you.. it has found words I haven’t even heard of and gives you the meanings to go with them!! I also like how it allows you to save words you really like and want to keep I would rate this app 5*.Version: 2.1

Love the word of the dayI have a very extensive vocabulary. What makes Word of The Day special is that the words you get are not the easy ones. Many times because of reading so much I will come upon a word that I don’t know and use it correctly but spend five years mispronouncing it. Word of the day doesn’t let that happen by having audio of the correct way to pronounce the word thus saving you embarrassing revelations when someone takes pity on you by telling you the true pronunciation. My father always taught me that you can only think as deep as your vocabulary is so Word of the Day will expand your mind thereby expanding your mind..Version: 2.1

Honestly? I adore itSleek, simple interface and although it does present "ads", they're nothing more than a push to buy premium, easily ignorable! You can complete as many word searches as you want per day, and although it makes me sound old, it's great to sit and go through them! Love the app..Version: 6.6

Good enoughIt's consistent with the new words every day, but advertising sometimes is so annoying.Version: 1.9

PriceI can’t figure out how to change my settings to dedicate more than one minute a day and get more than one word a day. Additionally, it’s too expensive for an app that gives you only a word a day. I pay for quite a few apps and I’m happy to, but selective about which ones I actually are reflective of the value that they bring. I would love to have this app but paying the price charged just seems ridiculous..Version: 8.4.1

AwesomeLoved learning new words!!!.Version: 1.7

Lovely!Really simple and beautiful app. I set my daily reminder for the morning and try to use the word in either conversation or writing that day to help remember it! There are some words which I find to be quite simple and well-known, but there are some great (often obsolete) ones. Annoying that sometimes the adverts will interrupt as you’re reading through the meanings, but what can you do. I also wish it had a better algorithm for the types of words of interest/new to you, as mentioned some words can be pretty straightforward. 4.5/5..Version: 4.9

Change the app and don’t like the new format! This used to be a great app when I initially signed up last year. I could catch up on earlier words before my subscription and catch up on days that I may have missed. The artwork was also beautiful. They also used to provide the etymology of the words to better understand the meaning which they do not do anymore. Unfortunately I will not be renewing my subscription. It’s not worth the money..Version: 9.0.1

I was engrossed in this appThis is the word I just learnt in the app “engrossed”, they make learning so fun and especially the don’t say section captured all my interest and that is the best part about the app. I wait 24 hours for the new word in dint say section each day, they just make learning fun..Version: 8.6.2

Keeping up with languageWotD has been a great resource which enables me to expand my vocabulary. It is easy to use, and the words which it covers are easily inserted into everyday writing and conversation.Version: 2.2

This is the best app everTo be honest, just from learning about 15 new words today i feel eloquent about myself, before I started using this app i was a very laconic person however now i confabulate with my friend, family and even in school making me feel confident with my vocabulary, speech and spelling. ( by the way the majority of the vocabulary that i included in this short message were some of my favorite words that I learned today.).Version: 6.1

Great App!!As a non-native speaker, I have to say that every day is a new day to learn new words enjoyably and easily. The pronunciation of the terms and the different accents in this app. have helped me to understand better the English language spoken by so many people all over the world, and my vocabulary keeps growing faster every single day. I love it, and I recommend it to anyone, native or not. It does not matter if it is simply for fun, academic level purposes, or to improve reading or listening skills; you will always find a piece of valuable information to learn..Version: 6.6

Great APP and daily incentive to have fun with new wordsI have used this free App now for three months and every day I look forward to my new word, They even pronounce it for you and word puzzle. Great incentive and a wonderful app to expand your choice of words or just make you aware of their existence. It’s very tempting to buy the monthly fee extra on offer to have more words. For me . One word a day , a puzzle day keeps the mental doctor away … thank you. Definitely one of the few apps I really use ..Version: 8.4.11

Good but just fix the speaker functionSome time you have to press the speaker function multiple times before it actually pronounces the word. When it eventually does it says it many times over each other..Version: 1.9

Would recommend!Everything you could want from a word-learning app. All the words are well-chosen uncommon words that are usable in day-to-day life, the ability to save interesting words is incredibly useful (and a feature that I find myself using often), and the daily reminders are excellent for a typically forgetful person such as myself. The recent addition of phonetical spelling of the words is also a very welcomed change, allowing the app to be used more readily in public spaces. Ultimately, I would strongly recommend the app to anyone looking for a way to extend their vocabulary..Version: 8.2.4

Fantastic app!!I LOVE the illustrations for each word! It’s absolutely wonderful and puts a smile on my face in the morning. So clever and cheerful. For example, for the word “operose” there was the sweetest illustration of worker bees. Great idea and makes the word stick. The improvements to the app are fab and I love going into the app every day to check for new words..Version: 8.3.5

Excellent!I like how you can still cycle to choose previous days words instead of missing out on them on busier days! 👍🏻 Great that it has a widget too! And free to download! With no adds! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.Version: 1.3

Unreal educationI have been using this app on a daily basis between friends. I have found it fantastic & really good educational tool..Version: 1.8

Great app but room for improvement!I totally love the idea of this app; it’s smart, quick, and simple, but the real thing has a few issues. Mainly the words and sentences: the words are usually ones I don’t know and they can be really cool, but other days the words are very oddly specific to certain things or are not difficult words at all (dabble and gullible, for example, respectively). Usually the sentences are good ones, as well, but also some days they can be strange or have issues—take today’s word, for example, pallid; the sentence is “I looked at her her usually glowing face was pallid”, with the line between the two and no punctuation at all. Other than this, though, the app is wonderful and I like it very much!.Version: 2.1

75% rating. 5 star because that’s as good as it gets these days with apps.Pretty good app. Sometimes when the word of the day pops up, it somehow relates to current circumstances. Or maybe I have selective calculations..Version: 2.0

MustHaveGreat simplified way of encouraging building your word bank and exspanding colourfully in new words. Great easy app, clear and bold. Daily reminder A+++ points.Version: 1.9

Love the cards system but experiencing a bugI love this app. It’s so fun to discover new words. It’d be more fun if it was gamified and I could trade words with my friends. But I’m currently experiencing a bug where as soon as I open a word the app crashes and I have to restart it forcefully. Latest build, iPhone 14 Pro Max.Version: 8.5.4

A Useful AppThe words are at just the right level- there are some I know and some I don't. It is always good to be reminded of the concrete meaning of words you think you know, but learning new words is why I downloaded the app, and it has successfully delivered on that point as well. The definitions are direct and easy to understand. My only complaint is that the app does not use the words in a sentence. However, this isn't essential... Ever notice how as soon as you learn a word, you start seeing it everywhere? I am pleased with this app. It's teaching me knew words without the unnecessary muss and fuss some apps feel the need to include with their services. It's quick, easy, and the words build up over time so you can greatly expand your vocabulary..Version: 1.9

Love it!Our language is constantly evolving, which makes this app so useful. I love using the perfect word that exactly defines what I am trying to communicate or describe. Just makes life easier when discourse is more clear. Also, the art depicting each word of the day is rendered beautifully and also is an extremely helpful aide to those of us that are visual learners. Seeing a pictorial definition helps to reinforce the meaning of each word for me, compared to text only (as goes for audio learners, hearing the word of the day is useful for pronunciation and another manner to bolster comprehension.).Version: 8.4.11

So weird and glitchyDoes not work well.Version: 3.9

Very GoodThis app is great. I wanted to find something to expand my vocabulary but i couldn’t be bothered to get a dictionary out everyday. This is perfect as I am on my phone and i will get a notification on a new word and i can listen to it, read it and understand it. Although it should include synonyms and antonyms to deepen the understanding of the word. Overall, very good and useful..Version: 2.1

GreatThis app is great for extending your vocabulary to extraordinary measures but please add a feature where you can search a word and see the meaning thank you..Version: 7.0

Very clean presentationA delightful app that presents the word in an easy-to-read and understand format. Those that complain about ads need to realize developers don’t work for free and they have the option to purchase the subscription like I did which is very reasonably priced for a year..Version: 4.8

Things I liked and things that could be better.I think the words are good and have an aura of interest to them - which is a great thing!! As well as this , it helps that there is a whole glossary of words you can view and not just the ones you have recently seen. However , I feel as if the words could be a little bit more difficult so it is suitable for all ages because - like many people my age - I like a challenge!! Despite this , the positives outweigh any negatives and therefore I think this a good app!!!!.Version: 2.9

FantasticAt first I didn’t like how you could only get one word per day, but I absolutely love it. I could be sitting in class or doing something and when I get the notification I immediately stop everyone and read them the word of the day. Everyone loves it..Version: 2.1

I miss the version before the updateI miss being able to search words and find out what they mean and I miss the word search puzzle it’s still good but I miss some of the old features :(.Version: 8.2.2

Possible UpdateAbsolutely brilliant app, everyday there is a word that I want to add to my vocabulary. Of course, the problem of remembering them all arises! Each day I screenshot the new word and set it as my lock screen background; I don’t know how possible it is but if the app could do this daily FOR me it would be incredible! Also the ‘feedback’ link will only work through Apple mail but I have the outlook app on my phone and use this. As I don’t have ‘mail’ installed I could not send feedback through the app..Version: 2.1

My words are getting better!!This app is great there is no adverts or videos or anything just the app. You have a word of the day and a great 👍🏻 definitions! The only ideas or comments I have is I wish you could put in your age and then you could get words around your level. Other then that I really love this app..Version: 2.1

Great but could be betterWould be better if the word search has a feature where the definition of the word is displayed right after you find the word..Version: 4.4

A must have!!!A brilliant app that provides beautiful new words each day to add to ones vocabulary, in addition to a simple explanation and even a contextual example to accompany such!! A must have for anyone seeking to augment their vocabularic prowess or simply to enhance ones own magnitude of intelligence!!- whether literarily centralised or within any other field,- of which will undoubtedly utilise such units in its communication!, become smarter in them all with this wonderfully simplistic, yet simultaneously marvellous app!! Thank you so much developers!!! If only all fields of intellectual pursuit possessed such creators, capable and willing to produce such magnitudinously spectacular applications!! ☺️😊.Version: 2.1

Perfect for defining and recording new wordsI wanted an app where I could look up words I come across in everyday life, find their definition and record them for future reference. This app does exactly that. It gives a "word of the day", or you can search for your specific word then favourite it with a little star. Perfect..Version: 1.8

DoozieSimple. No extra BS. Easy to use. When I was a kid, my father would write a word of the day on my napkin in my lunch box. I had to use to word once at school and once at home. Word of the day does me the favor of giving me a new word every morning to use! Sometimes it’s a word I know while others it’s a new word! Sounds nerdy, but it’s a fun little challenge to knock my word goal out everyday, especially given that I don’t have time to read as much as I used to. People always tell me I have a great vocabulary, always a plus to hear 😉 10/10 recommend if you’re a bit of wordsmith like myself, or just want an easy way to actively improve your vocabulary!!!.Version: 2.1

Inspiring my EnglishI work at a meat works and I quiz people each day if they know what these words mean. They love it. I love it..Version: 1.9

You know what, yeah. I’ll rate you. This app is one of my favorites. I commonly skip the adds and hit ‘rate this later’ but frankly I should give it its due. It’s been a phenomenal app that has admittedly given a word or two that didn’t have much relevance to me but there was a period of about five weeks where all but a handful of words were not relatable to my life. It’s an amazing and simple app that when used regularly can really expand your vocabulary and help you understand words you already know even better. Have definitely recommended it to friends and I’m recommending it to whoever is reading this..Version: 1.9

GreatVery good app launch so much.Version: 4.5

SplendidI love adding to my vocabulary I very much look forward to Word of the day.Version: 1.9

On a roll! These past few weeks the words have been so esoteric!.Version: 6.1

Vocabulary expansion on steroidsLove this app! One of my goals is to learn something new everyday. With this app I get to learn a new word everyday. Loving that my vocabulary is expanding.Version: 2.0

Superb! With a suggestion...I think it’s a great app, the layout and the words and the games are fantastic! But it’s so difficult finding different day’s words! If you were to put that in the search section, I think it would help everyone out lots!.Version: 5.4

Addictive and fascinatingI love the word a day concept, but also the random word feature is great when I just feel like discovering a few more words! I wish you could find a random word amongst your favourites though, as a kind of revision. That would make it perfect for me..Version: 1.9

Love itLove it.Version: 1.2

Superior app for the seeker of knowledge! This app is a work of art for today's world. Having matriculated over two decades ago it's quite refreshing to receive new words daily and incorporate them into my general conversation. I get trapped into using the same small words as I come into contact to and repeat; but thanks to this app and my busy lifestyle, once again go back to putting more thought into and having much more creative, interesting, and stimulating conversations. Download the app, listen to the words, write them down and incorporate them into your daily routine. Learning is exciting, remembering is monumental, rewiring your brain to think before you speak can save you in many many ways. Keep up the excellent work! ~Rico.Version: 2.0

A Great DiscoveryAs a writer who strives to improve whenever the opportunity arises, and thus searching the Internet for ways to do just that. Having stumbled upon this app was a real blessing. Grammar is very important to me, along with being too repetitive. This app has helped me with both in their own way. Being able to favourite/bookmark words is a huge plus. As well as the freedom of not having to pay. If I may make a request for the developers, you can deny it of course! I’d love to see an app for grammar aid. I have no doubt in my mind that you can make one that will rival those websites out there. Just as you’ve done here. It’d be more work I’m sure and I could understand it being a paid app, but I have faith that it will be made right. Either way though, I thank you for making this for us. ps: advice for fellow writers; don’t overdo your story with complicated words. Doing so will turn your reader’s away real fast if they have to look up every word. I do however encourage using one now and then to be a form of teacher to those who read them..Version: 2.1

The ART makes it 100% worth it!!!The transformation that this app has undergone is one of the best I’ve seen out of any app in a LONG time. Special shout-out to the art and design team- you guys create the most beautiful, expressive, descriptive, and accurate cards for each word of the day. And I’m so glad that us free users can go back and see previous days. Your art deserves to be visible to all for more than 24 hours. The art seriously makes this app!!!! And I won’t shut up about it! I love everything about the recent update. It’s so much more interactive and useful in learning new words and way more attractive overall. Bravo! It’s a widget on my Home Screen!.Version: 8.4.1

Exactly what I wanted.Provides a notification for a new word everyday and the feature to save words I want to keep. Exactly what I wanted..Version: 2.1

A much saner start to the day than TwitterI love this simple little app. Every morning I am introduced to a new word. Sometimes I’m baffled! Sometimes I feel superior by knowing the word and it’s definition. Most times, I smile with the discovery of a new interesting word and I immediately star planning how to use it. I always check for my new word before descending into the mire of the internet..Version: 1.9

Love itI think this is an meritorious app, perfect for expanding vocabulary. So far I’ve really liked all of the words picked for each day.Version: 1.9

IdeaI absolutely love this app! It has broadened my vocabulary so much. I was wondering if the team could make the app double as a dictionary as well? Because that would improve the app even more by giving people the option to look up a specific word. Just an idea!.Version: 5.2

Love it.Idk, honestly it’s nothing groundbreaking or new. Or, maybe they do sincerely choose a good word for each day. I have a hard time believing that’s difficult to do, but perhaps that’s part of it, as well as the nice format. I enjoy the page turning (again, not new). As much as it sounds like I’m knocking it, it’s just me saying I don’t quite understand, but I love this app. The ad’s are a huge bummer, and I’d happily pay a small fee to own the app, but there’s no such thing to do! I say that being almost positive, because last I checked there wasn’t, but I can’t look now because I'm typing this unnecessarily long review. tl;dr: The app is somehow surprisingly super awesome and totally worth having notifications on to throw a “word of the day” at ya!.Version: 2.1

Love it!I love the fact that this app will say the word to you so that you know how to pronounce it! Super fun and easy to use.Version: 1.8

Love this AppAs a young boy I used to randomly pick 5 new words a day from the Oxford dictionary and tried to use one of those words everyday. I found that my language skills improved enormously very quickly but carrying a dictionary with me was a little difficult so I slowly lost the habit - now it’s in my pocket wherever I go and I also get reminded !! Amazing. 👌.Version: 2.0

Perfect for writersI’m a native English speaker, and a writer as well. I’ve been looking for a vocabulary app that would benefit me as a writer specifically, not as someone studying the language as a non-native, ESL student, which seems to be the majority of the vocabulary apps out there. I already have a good command of the English language, but wanted to learn more of the uncommon words that might benefit my prose. Word of the Day does just that. While it would definitely benefit ESL students, I’ve found it fits my use case perfectly. Highly recommended to both ESL learners and native English speakers looking to learn those ten-dollar words, as Hemingway called them..Version: 8.6.1

Word of the DayMy senior year of high school (graduated in 1966), I had an English teacher the stressed the need of a good vocabulary. Each week she would give us 10 words that we were to familiarize ourselves and then record if saw the word used during the week. Sources could be newspapers, magazines, books, or any printed material. I can remember many of the words today and where I found it being used. My career choice as a nurse encouraged me to learn medical terminology. When I married, I faced a person who could challenge my knowledge. My husband was an auditor for the US Air Force and was responsible for writing reports to the Pentagon, to the Congress and the Senate, generals, etc. His reports were word perfect, written logically. I hate to play Scrabble or any word game with her. Even when writing a personal note to him, I am careful to be word perfect. This app is a godsend to me! Linda.Version: 8.4.12

Great but annoying advertsGreat for finding out new words every day, but annoying when ads appear a couple of seconds after opening the app. They’re only short so you can exit out of it within another few seconds, but it’s still a little annoying. Like, c’mon, all I’m doing is looking at words..Version: 2.1

Exactly what I️ was looking forSo far, this is exactly what I wanted. Not only does it give you a new word everyday, you can go back and look at past days and what the words were. Even MORE fun and enticing for me is the search function. I am an avid reader, lots of times I come across words I can figure the meaning of just by the sentence it’s in. But this app has a function my phone lost last time ‘They’ made the new year and new phone....it will speak the words for you. That’s just invaluable to me; not only do I get to read dictionary definition, I can learn how to say the word too. Ultimately making it more likely the new words I learn will make it out into my conversation. Thank y’all for the great app and thank you for making it available without pay..Version: 1.9

Never thought about expanding my vocabularyUntil now. English was always my worst subject. Im assuming my ADD was the fault. I can always read well and fast but nothing would stick. Especially words and their definitions. But overtime with all the nerdy games Ive played Ive slowly became more articulate than ever before. Games that involved lots of reading like Zelda, FF series, plus all kinds of other RPGs really helped a lot. Anyways theres only so many words in games that I can google up. But with this app. It gives you the definition and an example of the word being used in a sentence. That is what always helped me remember the word. I barely downloaded this app and am very excited so far.Version: 2.1

Amazing vocabularyI love that this app gives you a new word everyday, completely recommend this app..Version: 2.0

Great motivation with excellent materialsLearned about this app from a youtuber introducing English study methods and much appreciate them doing so.Version: 8.4.5

WoahThanks. extremely helpful <3.Version: 4.8

I love it!!So much fun to flick through the days I’ve missed and learn a whole vocabulary of words Too handy 😂😊 too good.Version: 2.6

Great ResourceGreat for students and teachers alike! Even if you’re just curious, or trying to improve your vocabulary, I’ve been pretty happy with this app. Handy that it has the audio option, example, and the ability to go back to previous days..Version: 2.0

Great app!!This app does what says, it isn’t complicated. It does have neat features though. You can favorite words, and then access them later. You can see a list of the most popular favorited words, you can flip back to words at least year or two ago. The app gives a word and it’s definition, an example sentence and how to pronounce it. The word is often challenging. It is good app, especially for students. I would highly recommend the app. Suggestion: I don’t wish to sound like a know it all, but I am a prolific reader and I know most of the words. (certainly not all, some of them are really different) So, I want whoever decides what word for the day to choose harder ones, less known ones. Especially one geared towards more AP exams? It wouldn’t be hard..Version: 2.1

Excellent appI have just started to us this app, it does exactly what I was hoping for; simple to use and a great way to learn and understand the correct use of new words. I have found it much more useful than a dictionary for explaining the context and correct use of words. Strongly recommend, I have not suffered any problems whilst using this app..Version: 2.6

Absolutely in love 🫠I recommend this app to anyone who would like to boost his vocabulary. Cool way to familiarise yourself with English. The app is colourful, fun, easy to use and has many different vocabulary level to match your requirements. 🫡❤️.Version: 8.4.8

Really great appIve tried a few of these daily word apps and this is by far my favourite. I really like how you can view previous words and save your favourites. It’s an easy to use layout and has some great features. I highly recommend this app to all! I look forward to seeing which word pops up on my phone each morning..Version: 1.9

❤️ thisSome days I forget, or don’t want to learn a new word... and other days I want to learn at least 10! The “popular words” and personal “favourites” lists in the app allow you to be flexible in how you average “1 word a day” 🙃.Version: 2.0

An entire new word every dayEvery day you get a brand new word free of charge, yes you read that right, an entire word straight to your phone for free. Included in this is a full explanation of the word so you can dazzle friends and family by using obscure words to confuse and and bewilder. Make people feel stupid and sound more intelligent and interesting than you actually are. It worked for me and it can work for you too..Version: 1.9

Love itLearning a new word everyday has really broaden my knowledge of the English language. Impressing my friends is an added bonus!.Version: 2.1

Great addition to daily routineOne of my favourite apps, look forward to getting a new word definition every day. Helps expand vocabulary and relearn definitions and use of less common but still frequently used words. It would be even better if brief word etymology was included, but having said that, under every definition there is a link which looks up full definition on the internet..Version: 2.0

Always loved words, now learning new one’s every day! Thanks!I love most that I can review words that I’ve already learned!! Excellent app for word nerds ;).Version: 1.9

Clean and easyOnly thing that’d make it better is if there were more voice options! Aus doesn’t quite cut it for New Zealand all the time.Version: 2.1

Great learning toolLove the words in the library. and how you can save your favourites. Definitions are helpful.Version: 2.2

Great app , but few suggestions.I love this app so much but I think it would be even better if you could create an account so you can access your own personal set of words from any of your devices, I also think maybe you could have your own creations section for your own words you have discovered that are not on the app. Apart from this love it! Very easy to use and nice design..Version: 2.1

Love it!This little app is great! Especially when words come up that you kind of know, but not too sure of their meaning. Of course there are words I didn’t know at all. I like that you can choose which voice and which country to speak the word to help with pronunciation (I already knew y that word haha).Version: 3.6

Interesting and fun for those who enjoy wordsIt’s a fun and intriguing way to kill time, leafing through these words...if that verb is still applicable. I only wish it could have a go back button and I would be able to simply tap a word I do not know thus showing me the definition. There are a couple dictionaries like that available as apps, and I have become accustomed to the feature. As this is about the word of the day, it is nice! I haven’t taken the time to fully explore this app either; meaning I haven’t tapped every button yet, so I may be missing a couple of features, but it seems pretty straightforward..Version: 1.9

Highly RECOMMENDEDMy intellectual abilities are literally increasing everyday, and at times when I feel unmotivated to work or do anything, I just use this app to learn new words, it makes me feel amazinggg!! I hate physically using a dictionary but this app DEFO SAYS WHAT IT DOES I recently just got this and it’s so useful, some words are so unique and it’s fun that you can click on the like button and it will be categorised to the favourites and you can always go back to that list of all the words!! AMAZING ..Version: 2.0

Fav Daily AppNot intrusive. Just does what it says. Gives a good mix of new words an daily used words that can often be confused on their meaning. One of my favourite apps. A+.Version: 2.0

Does what it says on the tin, but can do one betterThe app does exactly what it says on the tin — gives you a word of the day, every day. However, retaining learnt words is only possible through repetition or a test. Revisiting learnt words shouldn't be a conscious decision (apart from marking them as "favourite"); it would be invaluable if the app could take the learning experience further and provide an automated means that replay your favourite words to you, or test you on their meaning. Thanks..Version: 1.9

Great appThe more I use it and discover the functions of this app I am finding it more versatile and more beneficial as a resource. Really agree that five stars..Version: 4.6

Jazzy JanineGreat, makes me feel much smarter than other people and I like to try and use the words in conversations so that I can make others feel dumb and small... 😀😀👌👌.Version: 1.9

App RedesignEDIT: Since the major redesign, most of my complaints below have been addressed. I’m much happier with the app now- the last thing I’d like to see is a way to quickly return to a specific calendar day, rather than having to swipe between each word. But this is a relatively small issue, given the ability to save words to lists, etc. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Lifetime subscription member here. While I like some of the features of the app redesign (the art for each word is fun and a good way to get a better sense of the word) I really dislike the fact that I have to wait several seconds upon opening the app in order to “reveal” what the new word is, and even then you have to wait for an animation to complete, then “flip” the card in order to even get a basic definition, let alone any etymology details. Pleas give us an option to turn the word “reveal” theatrics off. On top of that, it would be hugely useful to have a way to scroll through the daily words and not have to flip EACH of the word cards over to get a definition. This is not the way I want to have to interact with the app. Let me easily scroll through words and their definitions, with an option to look at the word art if I want to! Lastly, it doesn’t seem like there is an easy way to look into past days/months/etc. like there used to be. Scrolling through weeks and weeks worth of words having to swipe to love one word at a time is getting to get old fast- the old “calendar” view was helpful in this regard..Version: 8.3.5

Excellent vocabulary improvementNew words everyday of varying complexity, and not too many ads. Fantastic.Version: 2.0

Today WidgetLove this app. There are so many in the AppStore but this one stands out above the rest. I have had this app for quite awhile and loved everything about it, until recently. I miss having it located in Today's widget, it was always included on the iOS versions, then suddenly remove. It was a helpful reminder when checking the News to see your Word for the Day shown, instead of waiting for your selected time of notification to pop-up. It would be nice to have it back on all iOS levels and not just on the newer versions. Please consider adding it back to the lower ones again..Version: 8.3.2

Does What It's Supposed To DoWord of the Day. That's a pretty straightforward explanation of what this app is and it delivers. For those who are looking to advance their lexicon, this is one to consider. Words provided vary from "oh I've heard that word before" to "is that even English?" but the app always provides the necessary information to make even the most exotic of words accessible; use of the word in a sentence, phonetics, etc. Words can be favorited and referenced later. A word of advice; coming from someone who needs coffee in the morning to begin properly functioning, having the app provide you with a new word immediately after your alarm is a great way to kickstart your brain before the caffeine strikes..Version: 2.0

Love seeing what the new word is each dayHaving the pictures to help with memorising is such a great idea!.Version: 8.3.5

Fun educationI have always had pride in my vocabulary — until now! I never knew how many words I didn’t know (irony?). Thanks Word of the Day for bringing a little evolution to my brain. 5/5.Version: 1.9

Just one thing :)This app is brilliant for expanding your vocabulary, especially for English exams etc. The only problem I have is the constant flow of ads which pop up with no warning, and I don’t think this is an effective way of advertising because it’s making me want to delete the app. Banners would be less invasive, or as there’s a premium option far fewer ads are probably required..Version: 5.2

FantasticAn absolutely wonderful creation. This may be pushing the boat a little too far and removing the beauty derived from your app’s simplicity, but it would be useful to have other advanced synonyms for each definition. I would like the ability to make groups. For example, I could make a folder for positive adjectives and add all the appropriate words in there. The recommendations above were the product of a half-minute’s thinking as I deliberately sought after ways the app could improve; therefore I would like to clarify I am very happy with the app. Hats off to the team behind this!.Version: 2.1

Very good but...The app is very well made and put together with hardly any adverts, it has a good purpose however i wish there were more examples on a word. Sometimes I need more examples to fully get how to put it to a sentence but you only get one. I won’t Criticise this to much because it links you to google but it would help if you added more than one example..Version: 1.9

Great wordsAs a family we’ve been enjoying the words every day. It’s easy to use and sends notifications each day which is handy..Version: 2.1

Exactly what it is one new word a dayGreat app best of them all.Version: 2.1

Sail awayGreat app. Learning lots of new words.Version: 6.2

Great appI like to word choices . Nothing to different , and my kids can use the words also . Easy to use.Version: 2.0

I like!A nice, simple, no nonsense app that helps me widen my vocabulary. Really like that it gives one word a day, that it speaks the word so you know its pronunciation (American and British pronunciations available), and that you can save it to your own personalised dictionary for later reference. Methinks this app’s gonna stay on my device for a long time. :).Version: 2.0

AwesomeIt's nice for increasing vocabulary.Version: 1.7

Too much work to get the word revealedWhen I bought this app it gave me a word and definition on the notification screen but since the last update I know have to play a game to reveal the word and then flip a card. What happened to the purely informative version? Surely the user should be allowed to choose which way they want the information display? Since the update I have to give it 1 star. I just want a quick inspiring new word each day when I pick up my IPad. UPDATE: The old way can be found in profile settings. Thanks support for pointing me in the right direction. Now it’s the best of both worlds. It’s up to the user!.Version: 8.2.2

AwesomeLove the app. Keeps you learning new words day after day..Version: 1.2

The words had become an addiction of communicationI looked forward to reading the new word of the day. For some reason the app no longer works and just comes up with a spinning wheel.Version: 2.1

Helping me improve my vocabulary one day at a time!Absolutely love this app. Worthwhile purchase for anyone looking to expand and improve their vocabulary!!.Version: 8.4.1

Solid and ReliableDoes exactly what it says it will do. Clear definitions and clear examples. Ability to check list of favourites. Excellent!.Version: 2.0

Great appleLearning everyday something new awesome app.Version: 1.9

Word of the dayDoes what it said it will do. Easy to use and easy to install. A worth while addition to any persons Cel Phone. Greet way to start the day. Word of the Day? Much more: Yes! It’s a moment of reward and responsibility. It’s our destiny to improve our minds and we’ll bring. The obligation to ourselves and our existence to expand our minds and justified our being. Not forgetting the joy in self improvement. When we increase our vocabulary we expand our understanding and open our obligation of living. Learn and understand the complete meaning is the essences and reward to being human. A moment every morning to celebrate humanity..Version: 2.0

Word of the dayWord of the day is the best thing ever it is so good but I would recommend kids 8 or 7+ to get this app because younger kids may get frustrated and wonder what to do and expect a fun game to play but other wise it is a great app and you learn a new interesting word and the meaning with a sentence to go with it every day you do not need to pay (I don’t think) and you get to choose what time you get the word each day and I totally think you should get unless you can’t read!😂 I only got this app today but so far I learnt a word called blabbermouth and I wonder what will come up tomorrow😊 I am only eleven years old and my name Alooka.Version: 3.6

Could use some improvementsSo far I love being able to see a daily word. As a writer, having words to get a situation across without something being too wordy, is crucial. This app has been a huge help! I like to write a small prompt with the word of the day if it inspires me. However, there can be some fixes. On the favorite word list, I would much rather be able to see the list of words with the definition. I don’t care to know have many people have saved the word. I just want to be able to access words and their definition on the fly, especially on writing streaks! Or, remembering one of the words and trying to see the definition on a whim. Also, the widget shows a different word than the daily word. When I click see example on the widget, I get the word of the day, not the word on the widget. Thus, I have to manually search it. I don’t care too much for the crossword game. However, I don’t get the notification for it so maybe it’s a glitch?.Version: 6.6

Great app!!!Awesome!!! But could I suggest having a British voice or Australian so I don’t end up with an American accent. Many thanks from New Zealand. 👍.Version: 1.9

What’s with the ads!!The recent app update done a couple days ago, what’s with the spoken voice. Cannot understand it, it is squeaky. It needs to be fixed. —— I have used this app for years to help improve my vocabulary. Now all of the sudden along with all the other app developers they have to start doing this monthly fee or yearly fee, this is RIDICULOUS! If you don’t pay the fee you now get pop up ads. It is very sad that an app I have used for many many years without all the intrusion of these ads now follows other developers to gouge the customer out of their money. As I have said, in many reviews of apps that switch to a monthly fees after years of use I do not do monthly fees. I do not do yearly fees. It sad that everyone seems to be getting greedy. I have been using this app for many years. Now pop up ads. REALLY!! Update: this app was great now I am having issues. The speaking will not work. If I go back one day it actually does that almost a year. Right now I am not happy and I will be looking for another "Word of Day" app..Version: 5.8

This app is beautiful & educational. The people that run this App are Super Helpful. This app has the most beautiful daily images that illustrate the meaning of the words they are helping us to understand and learn. I am a visual learner and I cannot say how beautiful their daily drawings are and how helpful they are to me to remember the word meanings & definitions. I look forward to a new word and its’ illustration every single day. I had an issue with the app deleting my history and the app developers remedied the situation in less than 1 day. I have never had that quick of a response from any app. I give this app 5 stars!!.Version: 8.5.1

Great! InformativeA great app. I am enjoying the new artwork features with the latest update. However, I do miss the ability to have the app running on landscape rather than just portrait mode..Version: 8.3.2

Enhanced metal performance! Our mind is built on language without Out we wouldn’t be able to think.....Version: 1.9

Neat words!Love getting new words everyday! The words are interesting and out of this world.... which I love! Also love that you can personalise the voice and time you receive the notification for the word of the day!.Version: 2.0

Would recommendWorks as it’s supposed to. It doesn’t have every word in the English dictionary but that’s ok. I use it everyday without fail, and would definitely recommend to word fanatics..Version: 2.1

Wonderful appThe unveiling of each word car bring anticipation and joy. Clever little card / word of the day app. Thank you..Version: 8.4.5

GreatI took it upon myself to learn a new word every day, so when I found your app i was ecstatic! I love all the words! I’m just going to have to make sure my sentences don’t become too verbose now that I have all this describing power!.Version: 2.0

WowGreat site.Version: 1.9

Word a DayAbsolutely the best app for learning new words of the English language!.Version: 7.3

Love the app. Learning a lotLove the app. Fun and easy to use. Learning a lot.Version: 8.3.4

Changed with new year*update* still don’t like the “chat” feature and the new look AND customer service was great. They explained why and respect my comments. I miss the old look and now will have to get used to the list. 5 stars customer service averages against the look. Glad to know customer service is available. My brain will take time and I will practice what customer service advised. Thank you. Getting some new “chat” with no explanation. Used to be able to review the week or months at any time and they are now gone. The other version was much more user friendly, accessible to review all of it any time. The previous version worked with my learning style. This does not. With a brain injury, Asperger’s, a PhD, and as a former professor I know how we need myriad learning methods and options. The previous app offered that and this one is limited, annoying in the way I have to battle to find information and zero customer service. I al so disappointed because it truly was a lovely app before. No longer worth the money. This iteration is boring, colorless, unaccessible, with too many changes. Why change what wasn’t broken?!?.Version: 9.0.1

Really awesomeThis app is really awesome! It teaches me and my family members a ton of new words! There is really nothing wrong about it. One time, I gave this app to my sister and she would not give me my phone back for the next half hour! This is one of the apps I really love because THERE ARE NO ADS!!! That really is great and an app with no ads is really great for children, especially impatient ones who love to learn. Maybe in this app, you could include a space where you can make a list of all the words you like and want to use more often. That would be really cool and I would even update my phone for that! Also, you could even make a word challenge where if you told your assigned word to someone, you would get a coin. You can save up your coins to maybe look at the next day’s word. As I said before, this app is astonishing and I love how I can educate myself with it!.Version: 4.4

Pragmatic and commodiousThis virtual phrontistery provides sesquipedalian words, while penumbral at times, with laconic and pellucid explanations; all executed in a protean and quotidian fashion. Mastery through fartlek literacy will lead you to literary empyrean where you can then speak extempore (even for the vociferous who may be at risk of becoming a pariah through their diatribes). This app is perhaps neither for the impecunious miser who scrimps nor those tending to feel nonplussed — they may just abjure. This puerile review may cause umbrage to some for which I do not feel attritional or compunctious..Version: 6.7

So-so and Good at the same time.First the so-so. The example sentences most often, are terrible. They continue the definition as opposed to using the word in a “real” relatable sentence. Then there are times when the syntax is off. I find myself reading the sentence multiple times to try to understand what’s really being said. As others have mentioned, a word retention system would be great, maybe mini daily games that train you to remember the word you’ve just learned. Now the good. I love that the words are very diverse, there are current language words as well as obscure words from the past. The app isn’t too obtrusive with notifications; I get just one a day, letting me know there’s a new word available. I really enjoy sharing the words with my kids and co-workers..Version: 2.1

Word of the DayIt's wonderful to be able to find the correct spelling of a word. It's also nice to learn new words as well. You can also ask about a word you want to spell without going through nine shades of you know what! Great job guys! Don't stop creating easy to use programs! I’ve wanted an easy to use program that, once YOU start to use it, YOU just start printing and eventually it corrects the word. Now that’s why I’m getting into this program a lot!! This is a sweetie of an app!! YOU guys keep it going!!🙂. I still LOVE!, this app. I know that it will always give anyone, the ability too learn about ourselves, as too know and understand how to speak to others. I know, that this is a lot, too take in at one time, but the thought Theorem it takes too create such an awesome app, is astounding!!👏🏻👍🏻😉😃 DON’T STOP!!, upgrading this app. Well done, everyone!!.Version: 2.1

Great way to be reminded and to learn something newYou can view not just the vocabulary for the day but flick back as though turning pages and view words over many days and weeks. In addition there is an alphabetical vocabulary store... like a dictionary. I have read words that previously wouldn’t have read so easily. It’s a nice thing to do for oneself; an easy way to expand or affirm your vocabulary..Version: 2.5

FantasticOnly just downloaded it and I can already tell that it holds a large variety of unique words! Going to be super helpful in the future..Version: 1.9
