Textastic Code Editor for Positive User Reviews

Solve my orgmode problemFinally found an application that work with Google Drive and can view/edit orgmode files. Alexander is very responsive and solved my questions within 24 hours and followed up with more useful information. Totally recommended..Version: 7.0.2

Love this app a lot, feedback:Love this app a lot, don't know if it is much to ask, Would be great for an option to expand and contract items of code? Like in the PC app Brackets. It would make it easier on smaller screens..Version: 9.8.4

ObsevationThe application works great!!!!.Version: 9.7.1

Mary Poppins of Text EditorsI just mean it’s practically perfect in every way. What’s more, it gets better with every version. The built-in SFTP makes this the perfect companion for web development and countless other tasks. The network storage (including Dropbox) options make it the perfect travel companion for developing pretty much anything. This has more features (and costs far less) than many popular desktop text editors. It’s one of the most useful apps on my iPad and has been for years. I can’t recommend it too highly..Version: 8.0

I use this at HarvardAbsolutely worth far more than the ten bucks I paid for this thing. I can now work on my JavaScript and CSS homework assignments on my iPad. Of course my keyboard turns this into a mini-Mac for the most part. But this app makes it all possible. Also, a good app to pair this up with is “Inspect Browser,” since you will need to debug on iOS. I like Brackets for the Mac, but I may check the OS X version of this out since the iOS one is amazing..Version: 7.1

The best text edit on iPhone for sure!No words, I use this program over years, it’s simply the best. Easy to access FTP with the phone, transfer files, edit files, just wipe out for example an error on your website immediately on the go. Because I use it over years, I can say the programer is an amazing guy!! He didn’t bring a program to the App Store for a fast money, he’s passionate about it and loves it, there is a regular improvement and development since years! I read the change log from 8.0, and again saw it will be better now than ever before :))).Version: 8.0

A great application.Something as simple as editing a text file on iOS is impossible unless you have an app like this. That is not a good thing. I just want a simple text editor like Notepad or TextEdit for iOS. Most apps that work with "text" only work if the file actually has a ".txt" extension. I have tons of PLAIN-TEXT files with extensions like .conf or .ovpn or .sh that nothing wants to open. Textastic opens everything just fine..Version: 9.6.4

Really nice text editorI use Textastic to edit Clojure code, and it’s fine for that. The on-screen keyboard shortcuts are a great time saver. Most importantly, the developer provides great support and has been very responsive to my questions..Version: 7.0.2

The very best availableThis app more than exceeded my expectations. It is by far the best way I have found to write code on iPad. I especially like the option to preview HTML/CSS/JS directly in safari saving a lot of time from connecting to a remote server. The app is not perfect however and here are a few features I would like to see in the future: proper auto indent, code beautification, full OneDrive support and possibly split view to compare two files side by side..Version: 7.1.2

I was looking for a GREAT mobile IDEWhile looking for a mobile IDE to perform simple web development I came across Textastic. This simple to use and customizable platform made it easy to access my work from other devices and share easily with co-workers and clients. Just what I was looking for..Version: 6.4.3

Solid iPad & iPhone dev appI'm not going to list out the features, you can see that on the app product page. I especially enjoy the UI attention to detail, dark mode, icons and connections. I got SSH, GitHub repos, local iCloud files, external iCloud files etc. Simple integratation with apps like Working Copy. Powerful iPhone app with RegEx search and web Preview. All good things. If you need anything this app doesn't have – just use your laptop..Version: 9.8.4

Well Designed ApplicationThis editor has improved tremendously since it has started. It continues to be well-supported, and follows iOS conventions very well. The user interface is well designed, mouse support is great, and windowing works perfectly. Autosave is also very convenient..Version: 9.2.1

For Working CopyCame for the Working Copy integration, stayed for perfect text editor. After years of trying dozens of other text editor apps both free and paid, I'd given up, and assumed there must be something impossible about developing a usable text editor for iPhone. But here's Textastic to prove it can be done. Great work, dev..Version: 10.1

Excellent, functional app.Update: just noticed the syntax niggle was my fault. You simply need to tell the app which syntax to use! #### This is probably my go to IPAD text editor, Java, Matlab, C especially. Works well and is stable. Nice and clear to use and the syntax highlighting works well. Criticism? Well a few niggles. It is not hugely different (I can't really tell the difference), between this and the version 5 series. If you code and you need an editor I would strongly recommend this, if you have version 5, I would save your pennies! The function tips that spring up look to me that they are based on C? I was writing a Matlab program and I don't think the suggestions that were springing up were Matlab functions? It does support Dropbox to a degree, but it could be slicker. It won't open on Dropbox (unlike Permanote?), so you download to work and then upload when done. It's OK, but if you are editing masses of files it gets messy. I love THIS app though, because I find it so clear when editing. The syntax highlighting is way better, IMHO than Permanote..Version: 6.2

Just what’s needed for text.Having tried many of the text editors for iOS and looking for the BBEdit of iOS I thought I just wasn’t going to get there. Then I stumbled on Textastic and it’s fantastic. Does everything i need and much more I’ll probably never need. Recently I was sent a file which everything else declared as being unopenable but Textastic just fired it up like it was a regular txt file. Good selection of customisations and all the useful things like copy/paste between iOS and MacOS just work. It’s a really versatile and useful tool..Version: 9.9.2

Best support everNot only is the app is well-designed and full featured, but the support is first rate. I was having trouble getting a particular syntax package installed and working, and the developer kindly took the time to try it out himself, then sent over instructions on how to do the same..Version: 7.1.2

Almost perfect. Wish it had one more common IDE feature.I really do love this app, but it’s missing one feature that is close to being a deal breaker to me. I wish I could collapse sections between <div>s and other HTML markers. Sometimes in working in particularly long documents the lack fo that functionality can make using this app tedious..Version: 9.2.1

Great app ! Love itI found Textastic for IOS is great i’ve Never seen for coding . But still missing some great features. The first I one I would like to see in next update is ONE CLICK UPLOAD. When we edit file in FTP or.... We knew we gonna upload much often so we don't have to click on Share icon and click upload file, that's so annoying! It will be good if quick upload button outside that option. It will be great if we can edit in remote server and save instead of download and edit on local and trip load again. Thank you very much . Anyway great job . :).Version: 7.1.2

Brilliant for mobile codingI've used Textastic for several years now and been superbly happy with it. The SFTP support works seamlessly, allowing me to work on files during my commute and very easily copy them back up during brief periods of reception. The UI is clean and effective, the syntax highlighting is effective without being overdone, and frankly the app offers more features than I'm likely to ever need. The addition of split screen in the latest version has addressed my one remaining irritation and now this is certainly the best iOS text editor I've tried so far..Version: 6.0

A great text editor / ssh terminal / ftp clientThis app does so much well. At times I have used it exclusively as an ftp client or ssh terminal going above and beyond a normal text editor which it also excels at! The developer updates regularly and is frequently adding new features so a big thank you to them for this amazing product..Version: 9.0

Reliable text editing with many markup languagesGreat tool.Version: 9.8.2

ExcellentBy far the best text editor and development tool on iOS. This is a truly professional tool that has improved at a steady pace over the years. It really should cost more than it does — we need to support these kinds of apps because iOS (especially iPadOS) desperately needs them..Version: 9.0

Great for the niche it fillsIf I need syntax highlighting, this is my go-to app. For composition with reliable and extended undo/redo capability and customization, Drafts is my app. For whatever weaknesses this app has, it does not charge a subscription. It's there when I need it, which is only sometimes. I don't use the ftp and ssh parts of the app, so can't comment on them..Version: 9.9.2

Amazing Editor for the iPadI have been able to do on the go web development with Textastic and it's built-in ssh terminal. This new update adds a ton of nice-to-have features that push this app from great to fantastic!.Version: 8.0

Comprehensive and Fundamentally NecessaryIt’s versatile, perfectly functional, and has the features (regex search & replace, line numbering, built-in ssh/sftp) that make remote development possible. Well worth the minimal cost..Version: 10.1

ED25519 password protected key support missingGreat app, however one important option is missing: SSH via ED25519 key protected with password not supported. Please consider adding. Otherwise would recommend this app to anyone who required to edit files on the go. Thanks..Version: 7.1.2

Bloomin' marvellousNot a single penny regretted. love it..Version: 6.2

Best text editor for iPadEasy to set up and get working. Love the flexibility of the code editor and the UI theme availability. However the best part is the remote development integration, in my case over SSH/SFTP. It is easy to connect to a remote server via SSH and access all the files for your workspace. The ability to upload/download files is relatively easy - once you tell the app which files you want from the remote server, you can upload your changes to the remote server with a keyboard shortcut. However, one area of improvement may be to automatically upload the files when they're saved - this is the behaviour of VS Code's Remote Explorer tool. I understand this might not be desired for everyone, so perhaps this could be an opt-in feature if it were to be implemented. One other thing I miss from my desktop code editor - some more advanced code editing shortcuts. I'm used to sublime shortcuts like "Move Line Up" as Ctrl + Shift + Up, or "Select Word" with Ctrl + D, or "Duplicate Line" with Ctrl + Shift + D. If this app had these, it could really compete as a daily driver of coding productivity. Overall though, I love it and it outmatches anything else available!.Version: 9.9.2

Great editor. Even greater Xcode alternative for playgrounds.I remember using Textastic before this newer universal app came out, and I fell in love with how amazing the app was. I’ve been using the new version for a while now, and. I am extremely impressed with just how capable this little editor is. It even opens and edits Swift Playground Books, meaning that I can safely and happily cut Xcode out of the Swift Playground book equation. Overall impressed and can’t wait to see what’s in store!.Version: 6.4.2

FantasticThis is a great text editor for when I'm using my iPad to code on remote servers. It works flawlessly (at least I haven't found any flaws) and the sftp support is well implemented..Version: 9.8.1

Great for Web EditingI hadn't come across Textastic before, having used other iOS code editors for many years and coped with their quirks and problems. Textastic feels fresh and snappy compared with those others and it didn't take long to figure out to use it for updating web pages - I'm using it heavily to edit field hockey tournament pages during the tournament. I particularly like the file transfer display on the iPad (10.5 inch iPad Pro), which displays which directory you are working in and which directory you are pointed at on the server. This is a simple enough idea but is not implemented on either of the other apps I have - with them, you have to remember which server directory you are in. To be fair to them, that's still the case with the iPhone version of Textastic - there's not the screen area available for side to side directories. Instead, they have a pair of buttons which allow you quickly to switch back and forward between local and remote directories to make sure that you are about to upload to the correct directory. Another big plus is the ability to use iCloud for 'local' file storage, which means that I can do a quick edit, like adding a score, on my iPhone while out and about, then work on the same file on my iPad to put in more detail when back at base. I haven't tried this in the wild but it appears that, if you have pinned a file, there is a local copy in the app on which you can work in a case where you have neither WiFi nor mobile data access. In my short time with Textastic (one day!) I have come across the need to work offline several times when on a train and Paris Métro, with mobile data signal disappearing sporadically. Code highlighting is not all that important for editing existing files but it will be very useful for creating new web pages, if I decide to go down that route. I don't know of another code editor which takes advantage of the split screen facility on modern iPads but it's nice to be able to view the results of changes in Safari side by side with Textastic. OK, one of my other apps has web view as a tab so you can switch back and forward with code view. Since all my sites are mobile friendly, I'm quite happy with a relatively narrow Safari window. The manual is pretty good but it is online - I'm the kind of person who reads the manual first but I couldn't do that because I bought the app at the airport and set up my site while waiting for my plane while I had internet access. Of course I couldn't read the manual while on the plane - no WiFi even for money on Air France domestic flights. A PDF manual would be handy. EDIT: I'm not able to remove half stars but if I could do, I would take a star and a half off my original five because of Textastic's handling of images which are not in iOS Photos (one star off) and lack or response from the developer after an initial speedy and helpful response (half a star off). One of my needs is to downsize images for web pages and you can't do that in Photos. For that and other image manipulation I use Affinity Photo, which can export to iCloud Drive. Unfortunately it can't save to the Textastic folder in iCloud Drive though it can save to any other folder there, and you can't transfer into the Textastic folder using the Files app either. Bizarrely, you can drag and drop the photo from any folder in the Files app (or from the Photos app) into the appropriate Textastic folder on an iPad which supports Split view. Still, that's an extra step which ought not to be necessary. This of course does not work on an iPhone or an iPad without Split View. I contacted the developer about the image issue and he replied instantly giving me the drag and drop workaround (I figured out myself that this would work from another folder in Files and it did). He said that I should be able to move files into the Textastic folder in Files but has not since responded when I replied twice to say that this still didn't work after rebooting the iPad. In summary, I was absolutely delighted with Textastic and wished I'd had it sooner. I'm now not so delighted because using images is so much extra hassle so I hope the developer is listening and fixes this issue. It's still a very good app, just not so perfect..Version: 8.0.1

StunningNo words.Version: 6.4.3

Great, lightweight App. Highly recommended! Was looking for a lightweight but powerful App for working with code on my iPad, and Textastic does not disappoint. An absolute pleasure to work with and makes coding on an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard attached a joy not a chore. Great support too from the developer..Version: 6.4.3

No ProblemsEverything works fine. Great App..Version: 8.1

Wounderful! But it could be betterI’ve been using this amazing tool a long time ago, to write and edit HTML and CSS files. Love it because uses prediction to increase your productivity and the margin of errors decreases. One thing that I would love to have is a HEX color picker. Than would help immensely. Thank you!!! NOTE: Recently working with -WebKit trying to fixed a navigation menu, it won’t display correctly on the native web browser..Version: 9.6.1

Delivers what is promisesI have used Textastic for years now. It provides a portable and uncluttered tool to edit Markdown and html. I have not been disappointed with it. The developer fixes bugs, maintains it, and provides updates..Version: 9.9.2

Excellent editorI have used this for a few years as a great way to edit or review code on the move. I use it for syncing via SSH (built into the app) to/from a remote system, very helpful. Good for musing on code/problems on the move..Version: 9.0

No doubt better than mostI use this awesome app to typeset LaTex documents only, but I love it more than any of the other apps I currently use. I have got only two feature requests at the moment: (1) include a feature that will compile LaTex documents and output in PDF; and (2) include LaTex symbols (statistical and mathematical). Thanks again for this wonderful app!.Version: 8.1

Superb, indispensableI can't rate this text editor highly enough. It's indispensable, not solely for programmers, because its text editing aids such as cursor movement controls, enhanced keyboard and full undo will prove extremely useful to just about anyone. It's a plain text editor that handles full Unicode text and uses monospaced fonts, so that makes it ideal for programmers. It can store files in the iCloud or locally. It can also transfer files to other machines using a variety of mechanisms. Alexander’s support is fantastic too. Run, don't walk..Version: 8.1

Great privacy policyThe privacy policy is clearly worded and respects your information: “Textastic is designed to keep your information private. It does this by collecting as little information and using as few third party services as possible.”.Version: 9.9.2

Top-notch!This is my go-to coding app on the iPad. Intuitive, full-featured, customizeable, support for all popular programming languages, and easy server connectivity. The additional bar above the keyboard is an ingenious time saver. The developer's timely customer service is also five-star and puts this app in a league of its own. Highly recommended..Version: 9.8.8

Textastic is FantasticThis app opens up the possibilities for all sorts of file editing and management of remote servers in a way that makes it easy. From this app I have been able to access my remote servers, transfer files to and from them and create and edit files while remaining in the app. I have used this app for years and love it. Highly recommended..Version: 9.9.2

Excellent in every areaExcellent editor with solid connectivity and "open from" support, code completion, etc and a very nice, clean interface with the ability to use custom syntax highlighting schemes. Highly recommended!.Version: 6.3

Quite fastTextastic is the only plain-text editor for iOS I've found that will edit a multi-megabyte file without slowing down. The only feature I'm missing is a setting to wrap text to (for example) 100 characters if there's more space to the sides, but turn on auto-wrapping if the text area is narrower than the set maximum (due to the sidebar being visible or other apps being active in split-view)..Version: 8.0.3

Textastic has now solved a longstanding ios barrierThe sweet "sharing" feature of Textastic now permits me to ignore Apple Notes altogether, receiving html from my favourite writing app THEN Preview or quickLook & copy-paste to Scrivenor which can be made to emit the rendered texts completely off-the-iPad & so onto MacOS. The iPad does its tasks & then it is left behind. For me, money well spent, thanks-all.Version: 9.7

AWESOME Text Editor for iPad!I used this app to first teach myself programming languages and now use it on the regular for independent projects. It’s great! I do hope that the developer will continue to add additional functions and improvements, but this 5-star review is well-deserved. Textastic is well worth the money. Please keep it up!.Version: 9.4.2

AmazingWhat a great app well worth the price and make life so easy, I can edit on my iPad any time on the move. Thanks.Version: 6.3.2

Perfect for offline workNow with split view you can tap to preview in Safari and code alongside. If you have the iPad keyboard attached it's an amazing environment to code in offline. So great..Version: 6.3

Great softwareThe best.Version: 9.9

Great AppThis app is just perfect. I hope they include VB in the future..Version: 8.1

BrilliantOf all the coding editors I bought this one beats them all, thank you dev. 5-07-18, UPDATE: still the best coding editor on its. Well worth the money.Version: 7.0

Exemplary app ...It’s hard to believe this editor is running under IOS. Very capable and robust. Hope it’s around for a very long time as I’m growing dependent. *Kudos*. PS: Please don’t wreck this great app by switching to a subscription model like some other (previously) great apps have and have since been abandoned..Version: 6.4.3

Excellent appI particularly like the way it handles external files on iCloud, something other editors can find very awkward, for whatever reason. Very solid and user-friendly..Version: 9.8.6

Great productWell thought out UX, pleasure to use, well worth a few £/$/€.Version: 9.8.1

Still the bestPowerful, easy, a pleasure to use..Version: 6.3

Good Editor & Keyboard/InputClearly very polished, but seemingly so simple, solid, ‘just works,’ that it’s easy not to notice... I’ve never had a problem with the functionality, which is robust beyond my and most uses, but which never seems in the way. I also get used to the special input keys quickly. I’ve used the keyboard onscreen plenty; for me this is at least as natural as typing a document this way. Very nice editor..Version: 7.1.1

Amazingly good at what it doesThe pseudo-keyboard is a little marvel. now, you wouldn't want to write a full-blown program on it, but, esp on an iPad, it's an alternative to printing out something just to review it quietly somewhere. and this way you can even fix things. a little git wizardry over the webdav mount helps. It’s really quite amazing that it manages to be so complete. Have used it for years, it’s never been buggy either. 👍.Version: 8.0.3

Rock solid - worth every pennyBeen using this app for (literally) years and it just gets better and better. It. Just. Works..Version: 8.0.3

I Can’t Believe ItI wasn’t even prompted to rate this app - I just had to get on to do so immediately cause it’s the best app I’ve ever used in my life. Everything is so streamlined, detailed, functional and intuitive. Thank you for making this. It makes a big difference and has just about anything you’d need for front end & back end work if you’re a web developer. This is the first time I’ve rated an app without being first prompted. Thank you again..Version: 7.1

Good AFThis is gonna help me pass. Gg bro..Version: 8.1

Great app! This app is exactly what I was looking for. Being able to access my own local/iCloud directories and add the folder to the app is very useful. I can now mount the directory with my whole website and easily make changes. What’s also very useful is the “Preview in Safari” feature, which really makes it handy when developing a website. App is very responsive with many good themes. Highly recommended!.Version: 8.1

Great editor that's always improvingA great editor that keeps on getting better. Unrelated I have various apps, that work on python, LaTeX etc, which can give code completion for that language, I wonder if there some way of getting language aware code completion in Textastic..Version: 9.3

My favorite editor on the App Store!I've used most of the top rated editors on the App Store and this is the one I keep coming back to! Love the ability to connect to my servers and Dropbox. Works great with Apple Keyboard and has some nice keyboard shortcuts. Please add the ability to edit multiple lines at once!.Version: 6.4.1

A+ editorA professional text/source editor for iOS. Highly mature code base with a large number of features..Version: 9.9.2

The essential text editor for iOSThis is probably the best plain text editor you can get for iOS. If you are a Macintosh user then Textastic is the BBEdit for iOS 😁🥺😬. This app will take some time to master but it will be worth it. Most of my writing is done with Markdown documents. I use an app called Taio because it’s a specialised Markdown editor. But there are many occasions where I need the additional power/features of Textastic. Highly recommended, Peter.Version: 10.1

As perfect as it gets on iOSThank you so much for this app! I just can’t say enough about how well executed Textastic is. There are so many wonderful features, and all integrated with so seamlessly. I love all the connectivity options, the innovative keyboard, the previews, and even the surprise terminal emulator. Just a steward tool! I couldn’t be happier. 👍.Version: 8.0.3

Delivered on expectationsThey are only few Great Apps on the apple App Store that truly deliverer on the quality & capability of what is expected from a premium App Store app, This App is one of them. My hats off to the developers. Please continue to live up t the high standard i hold you at.Version: 10.1

The best code editor on iOSSometimes you want a code editor or text editor when you don't have a computer in front of you. Those are the time I find Textastic invaluable. 👍👍.Version: 6.3.2

Excellent web editorParticularly versatile especially for updating webpages away from home/office on iPad. Especially like on screen keyboard with so many characters/ symbols..Version: 7.0.2

Super intuitive and easy to useThis allowed me to connect to my server using SFTP and FTP, download files, edit, and re-upload on iPad Pro. Without any problems! I’m sure there are nuances that aren’t perfect, but most important, it did what was promised. Yeah!.Version: 6.4.1

Very close to what is neededGreat editor. Actually an editor you can use to edit files on iPad. An ability to upload all changed files at once not one by one would make it much more useful though..Version: 7.1.2

So versatile! ExcellentI’ve used Textastic across my iPad, iMac, and occasionally iPhone (usually when I need to make a small change right away) The support across programming languages is amazing, I use it to edit files on my web server and Raspberry Pi. Feature request, able to send terminal commands directly without having to fire up another app for remote desktop.Version: 6.4.3

Merci.Version: 7.0.1

Great active development!I just bought this app earlier this week, and I’m so glad to see that it received an update for the new iPads already. Also highly appreciate support for syntax highlighting packages..Version: 7.1.1

This app is awesomeI just found it. I use my ipad pro 12.9 a lot and really was looking to edit my latex and matlab files. If you support all features of these two, it will be great. Thanks :).Version: 9.5.1

First class text editorBrilliant plain text editor, not just for coders. I use it for editing GPX and TCX files, but also with the Stylus app and my Apple Pencil to just hand write notes and instantly convert them to text. Then I can correct and copy or export to another app for formatting if I need to. It’s fast becoming my most used app, highly recommended. One major issue though, it crashes with what it calls ‘large’ files of over 5MB - for me thats a really small file, so I still find myself having to use a Mac or PC to edit real large files.Version: 7.1.2

I like itIt's a little bit confusing and I think there can be more done with the UI. I do like it though and especially on the iPad. I have yet to hook up a keyboard and I would bet that it really would shine. I am still trying to get it working with Working Copy and once I do I think both will make each other great and my stars will top out. It's mostly for the UI which like I said could be much better but then an app like this is really all about functionality. I think he would get way more downloads if it was pretty. Like most editors are these days..Version: 9.5.1

Genius.Great programming editor..Version: 6.4.3

Best in classEasily the best code editor (and FTP/Dropbox/file manager!) for iOS. Gotten me out of a hole when I've been out and about and needed to fix websites and things and more than capable of heavy development work. I love this app..Version: 6.3.1

Amazingly Powerful AppI’ve searched high and low for an app like this. For one reason or another, I’d talked myself out of purchasing this, instead choosing to use other apps (that were an absolute waste of money). But finally I decided to try my luck with this, and I can’t stop kicking myself for not choosing this one sooner. It works so well. It’s easy to use, setup. I was up and running in no time. Paired with the iPad magic keyboard, this feels like I’m typing on my old MacBook. Can’t thank the Textastic team enough for developing and maintaining this app!.Version: 9.6.4

Brilliant but could use some improvement.I have to say, Textastic is a fantastic bit of software. The developer has done a remarkable job with it. I do however think that the app could be improved. Auto closing CSS tags when typing them would be a great time saver, along with automatic indentation of the CSS when you click the enter button. I've only just got the app and I'll be sure to update my review as more improvements are found and implemented. Again, great work by the developer..Version: 6.3.2

Fantastic EditorGreat editor, I wouldn't ask for anything more. Excellent working space with cloud uploads. Working between my new iPad Pro and MacBook has never been easier..Version: 6.3.2

Great code editorThis is a very capable text and code editor for iOS. I have used it since 2012 and it continues to improve..Version: 9.8.5

Better Support for Swift?Currently syntax highlighting is not working correctly in swift source file, especially in some structures like protocol. Symbols cannot be extracted from source either..Version: 9.5.1

FantasticThis app is super useful as a general purpose text editor. Don’t ever forsake the value of a plain text editor until you find yourself needing one and not having it. This is worth every penny and is perfectly minimal and well implemented..Version: 10.0.3

Matlab supportWorks great with Matlab, and a whole bunch of more mainstream languages..Version: 6.3

Great text editorThis is a really nicely thought out application. Upload and download work well, integrates well with Dropbox etc. Intuitive UI..Version: 6.3.2

Proper detailed updatesKeep up the good work. I appreciate that you do detailed change logs. Apple really should not approve change logs that are “various bug fixes and performance improvements”. Those big developers really need to try again!.Version: 8.0.2

Great AppThe app is vey good for writing code. Created a site on the iCloud drive using the iPhone version. Textastic folder shows up on iCloud drive on the iPhone but the folder is not visible when viewing the iCloud Drive from Finder on an iMac or iCloud website. Not sure if this is a bug yet to be corrected or whether I need to have the desktop version of the app installed to make the Textastic folder visible from Finder on iMac or Macbook. I like the WebDAV feature. A real life-saver. Can transfer files out so I can split up my project and continue working with Brackets on Linux. I like the features and the portability of the app..Version: 6.4.3

Textastic will be improving, and I love that!*update* I am so thrilled about a Test Flight version I received allowing me to set a default overwrite of files for upload/download, and what's better is you can set it for quick transfer or the file transfer windows! This is a HUGE *time saver* and makes me work flow so headache-free. The developer does care.. As you can see I was very upset before:: Previous review: I used to be able to fix the "Error uploading" of the "Transferred a partial file" by simply opening the files that failed to upload. Now, no matter what I try I simply cannot upload certain files or even their parent folder containing them no matter what I try. New “Upload To” feature is appealing, but … Developer absolutely refuses to save you time, forcing you to “confirm” EVERY time you want to upload multiple files. Yet, somehow “upload to” is the only option you’re allowed to disable the dialogue box with. This developer does not care about developing a true Textastic, a great app, but instead an app that only suits their low standards of "good enough". This has to be one of the most obnoxious app developers I have ever had to work with. Textastic has become completely unsable!.Version: 10.1

Really great coding experience in iPadosI’ve been using this app for a few months now and have to say that the timely updates as well as all of the features make it really compelling. When iPadOs finally does build in features for developers, textastic will be the clear app for coding..Version: 9.1

Fantastic Coding App!I love this app so much! It has helped me to go from a total beginner in web development to be able to build full stack web apps with python and flask. I am very excited to see new features added. I love that I can now open two instances of Textastic side by side and work on them both!.Version: 9.0.1

Great Text Editor!I love using this editor! I can create custom themes, view HTML files as they would appear in a web browser, and importing files from web servers is dead easy! I just wish that there was a way to easily import from GitHub. Other than that, this is a great app for mobile software development..Version: 7.1

Needs ‘files’ supportThis looks like the app of my dreams for further replacing my computer while traveling. One request... instead of Yet Another App Asking For Dropbox Credentials, and yet another file browser, this needs to integrate with the Files app in iOS 11. Apple has solved this problem, and once everything I need supports it, I’ll be happier for the consistency..Version: 6.4.3

Transformed my coding experience on the iPadTextastic coupled with Working Copy makes dev work not only possible on the iPad but also extremely productive and enjoyable. I'm seriously considering buying the full size iPad Pro to do my dev work now (and wanted a reason to justify buying one :-) ). Highly recommended! Paul Watts Gold Coast, Australia Twitter: @paulfwatts.Version: 6.1

ExcellentExcellent application with the best documentation I have ever seen in Apple store. Beautiful interface, perfect online manual, foru, email support..Version: 9.2.1

Fantastic app for Web DevelopmentNot only is the FTP great but as you save files they auto-upload to ftp so you can dev wherever and never worry about saving. On top of this the code editing has convenient shortcuts to compensate for the lack of a mouse on iPad, great syntax highlighting and customizable themes make it feel like any desktop IDE. I have wanted an IDE on iPad for a long time and never thought I would have one that felt like desktop. I could not recommend this app enough, it makes me so happy to have found it. As a final note it also supports local servers for preview, essential for testing. I ran an angularJs SPA on it without a hitch!.Version: 6.0

The 'go to' app for serious programming.Textastic is the best portable text editor there is. It matches the features of brand name editors and keeps developing new ones. This is a complete working station to review/ create/ modify and update any project on the go! "Not even the toilet will be able to stop you!".Version: 6.3

Wonderful app, couldn’t work without it.I’m iPad only and still build and maintain websites for myself and a few clients. While the workflow is different on iPad, I have been using this app for a long time and I love it. It is very powerful and does exactly what I need for website building/maintenance I do. I have put in a request for PHP rendering and hope this becomes available soon as that would make this app PERFECT! Thank you so much Alexander..Version: 7.1.2

My daily editor.I’m a hardcore Python and web developer and this is by far the best (lightest-weight, fastest, simplest) editor I’ve found for iOS. Doubly so when combined with apps capable of file sharing, such as Working Copy, a git client and another vital tool in my arsenal. (I consider built-in SFTP to be an “anti-feature” encouraging bad practices such as editing production sites “live” and without traceability.).Version: 7.1.2

UI feedbackDont put the comma tab in the UI when using the app. It’s clutter and not intuitive. Fix this next update please.Version: 9.6.2

One of my favorite toolsIn the past several decades I’ve used a wide variety of text editors on all sorts of platforms. Textastic is one of the best I’ve ever used. It works well on all of my devices; it gets used for everything from writing scripts and configuration files to taking down notes. I’m also visually-impaired, and the ability to customize the interface to make it easier to use is extremely helpful. VoiceOver support is fairly solid, and overall it’ easy to navigate the UI. The developers have done a good job and as a result Textastic is well worth the money..Version: 8.1

Finally a decent oneI went though at least a dozen apps trying to find a decent code editor that didn’t crash with larger files and whose search actually functioned in a way that makes sense. Pretty stoked about that, I ditched all the others. The developer did a great job. Would be nice if it has support for "open in" though from the share menu. Not a big deal, just have to open the app first and browse from it instead..Version: 9.6.4

Great feature update!I absolutely love the ability to add entire repositories or folders from a local repository using working copy. Great integration and lovely on-the-go editor..Version: 6.2

Excellent appBest code editor on iPad Pro..Version: 6.2

Textastic reviewTextastic is an editor that I have been using for several years now an simply put - it is the best editor of its type that I have found for use on my iPad. Powerful and feature rich with a support that is excellent, development is continual and the creator listens to your needs and supports/resolves issues. I no longer look for alternatives..Version: 9.8.5

Absolutely brilliant!A must have app for developers. As a professional web developer I've found it invaluable, providing the ability to code and experiment on the go. The extended gesture based keyboard is easy to get the hang of within no time, allowing me to start cutting code in HTML, CSS and JavaScript then previewing it in the built in browser. Loving it!.Version: 6.1

Still the bestTextastic was one of the first apps I got on my first iPad over a decade ago. It's still just great..Version: 9.9.2

Terrific appThis is a really great little editor. Tons of features, including ssh terminal and web browser. Works well with onscreen and physical keyboards. Wish it had ability to search across all files, plus the ability to issue one command that would find all changed files and present a list of which to upload (then maybe a command to execute in a remote terminal... then it would be a breeze to do remote builds). Oh, and maybe the ability to have it check for remote changes to files?.Version: 7.1

Superb text editor which integrates into iOS seamlesslyIt’s had endless updates without requiring new purchases, so huge thanks to the author! This is just a fantastic multi-file project text editor. It understands code and markup systems, integrated beautifully with Working Copy, Files, and other document providers, doing exactly what you’d expect and hope it does in terms of working with files. On top of this, it’s a keenly priced editor with a whole suite of extra functionality - SSH integration, syncing with the equally efficient and sane macOS application, and more than you can even remember. If you do any kind of work with Working Copy, Markdown, or code of any time, you need this app. You will not be disappointed..Version: 8.0

Amazing productI have never used such an easy tool on the iPad. I have never been able to edit my website on the fly with the ease I can with this app. Thank you.Version: 9.4.2

The best iPad appThe best iPad app for development environment! Connect to Working copy Connect to sever via SSH key I enjoy it very much ^^.Version: 9.4.2

InvaluableThis is the best thing since soft toilet paper! I use VSCode at the office and home, but this is a life saver when I am on the road. I can open source code directly on my iCloud and upload the changes to the server. And the code editor works great. Thanks!.Version: 9.8.6

ReliableBeen using Textastic for years, always has been my go to editor for quick edits on the go, never failed me, and it hasn’t become bloated like a lot of other editors. Really great quality application!.Version: 9.8.2

ALL DAY, ERR DAY!Hands down the best compiler / IDE on the App Store for mobile. I’ve tried them ALL… ALLLLLLLL.. and if it was not one thing it was another with them. Whether that be failing to load the preview in browser, as I am primarily a web dev, or lack of Emmet support. This app is clean, you can work local (off any drive you want, should you want) and most importantly it just works. Great job! :).Version: 10.1

TextasticUnexpectedly powerful agile program for mobile users!.Version: 7.1.2

Stunning, simple greatI have used this app since 2011, I have known friends for shorter periods, I have worked in places in less time. This app does it all, clean, clear, code and terminal use. I use it constantly and the constant development of this app is what makes it stand out from all the other iOS test apps..Version: 7.1.2

Bob The Web Page BuilderI’m a web developer and I love this app. Very easy to use and being able to code on my phone and continue coding on my laptop by iCloud sharing is awesome. Thank you for a wonderful app.Version: 7.1.2

Very goodReally good editor, the best on iPad I've used.Version: 6.3

High QualityThis product is amazing. The only thing I would want to see added is native support for connecting to git repositories. This app really gets it right when it comes to editing. Other apps might have more IDE features but I love that the things Textastic does are of an extremely highly quality..Version: 7.0.2

CapableHands-down the most capable mobile code/text editor I’ve found. Full, flawless regex search/replace is my favorite feature, though I do wish it remembered recent searches; there are a few I’m constantly retyping. The process for editing files stored on Dropbox/GoogleDrive could be smoother, but it does make it very clear what you’re doing. (Once you’ve downloaded a file, any time you open the local copy you can hit Menu, then “upload” or “download latest“, and confirm overwrite.).Version: 9.3

Please add support for a native iOS keyboard + code minimapMan where to start... there are sooooo many things I love about Textastic I don't know where to begin... Just try it, you won't regret it 👍🏻 @Developer(s) please make my dream come true to have the ability to use your wonderful keyboard extension outside of app as a native iOS keyboard as I'm completely in love with its functionality as a power user. UPDATE: I would also love to see Code Minimap Support with syntax highlighting being a bonus (especially for the iPad)..Version: 6.3.2

I do all my web development in this appYes, I have a Macbook Pro with all the latest web dev tools. But I always have my iPad with me, and I end up doing all my development with Textastic. It has its own local file structure so you can build the server folder and file structure locally and develop with relative links. You can store all the resources (graphics, images, scripts, stylesheets, etc.) in their proper places so the entire site can be uploaded as it exists on the device. My typical workflow starts with Graphic for graphic and image resources, Pixelmator to edit images to size, and Textastic for html, css, and Javascript as needed. iCloud files are synced automatically so I can pick up on any device, and upload to the web host directly from the iCloud directories. This is one of the essential apps that make the iPad so incredibly useful..Version: 6.4.3

THE code editor for front-end devsWith Emmet support, previews and the JavaScript console, plus seamless operation, this is the code editor of choice on iOS for front-end languages (as well as many others). If you're a web developer, there are a mass of iOS code editors out there. I've tried at least 5, but with TextTastic you don't really need to look further..Version: 6.3

A superb iPad IDEMost days I use Codeanywhere cloud IDE which works great on PC, but if you want an IDE that works on iPad then this is it. It runs fast, downloads and uploads files super fast, and is flexible and has a well structured interface that is quite easy to use. A stable and superbly written app of genius - thanks!.Version: 6.3

For years people have been asking for spellcheck to be enabled.I used to love Textastic, but it is getting stale and long in the tooth. It pales in comparison to editors that I use on other platforms. If you have ever used UltraEdit on Windows, you will know what I am talking about. Textastic has been around for far too long to not get similar features. Especially spell check..Version: 9.4.2

Learning to codeVery nice. Learning to Code on my iPad was intimidating but Textastic is making the experience smooth and im already building websites and maybe castles to :).Version: 9.7.2

FEEL LIKE A REAL CODE EDITOR!!To code on the go, this app just perfect! I use to code in JAVA and ok it doesn't have all the automated function as something like IntelliJ could have ooooff course but still I'm able to code just as fast as I used to! Again, great app!.Version: 6.3.2

Wow!!! Fantastic!!!I’ve tried several other apps to edit plain text files (.txt) and this one is the best. It’s fast, reliable and easy to use. My biggest .txt file has more than 30,000 lines and I can read, edit, search strings and all operations are really fast. The search feature is really nice, type any string and the app shows you all occurrences in a snap. You can jump into your text easily. The app also support .zip files which is pretty nice. Congratulations and keep up the good work!.Version: 6.4.1

Very useful app for text-based files editingI use it on a daily to create and make changes to different files across my device's directories.Version: 10.1

Consistently excellentIt's a great app, and I always return to it even having tried Blink, Code, Runestone etc. My one gripe is multiple carets. It's the one thing that stops it from being amazing..Version: 9.9.2

Great text editorI’ve been using Textastic for years, and wander off to try something else, then find myself using it again;) the extra keyboard options are often what do it…great app..Version: 9.8.5

So far okeyNot that impressed, may be because I’m coming from phpstorm but there is no highlighting for object methods like $obj->method(); I setup a google drive folder but to get it to upload there is pretty confusing, I see local files and iCloud only, where is the drive that I just setup? Haven’t used any other IDEs for smartphones so maybe this is the best there is so I’ll leave 4 stars but really not blown away so far Little buttons with shortcuts should have -> as a choice and the little window that pops up should be much bigger.Version: 9.2.1

My Macbook is gathering dustI’m not a developer; I work in email marketing, so my use case is pretty simple and pretty much just consists of building out our content in raw HTML. This app is so simple and straightforward to use that I’ve actually begun doing 100% of my job from my iPad Pro. The times I’ve gone back to the text editor on Mac, I’ve kind of just wished I was using this app instead. Can’t speak to the more advanced features it has but if you just need a quick, simple text editor and are curious about living the iPad life, give it a shot!.Version: 9.9.2

Great app!Works great! The only thing missing is multi-cursor support. I often use this app when prototyping and mapping out new ideas before i bring them into my VSCode projects. I do recommend using a different browser than the default. The console isn’t very useful for working with large objects. The Inspector browser or something similar works much better. Thanks for making this app!.Version: 9.9.2

Tons of featuresReally great app. I’ve been using it for web development and every time I google something like “how to open the JavaScript dev console on iPad” I find out that it would have been difficult to do, except for the fact that it’s already included in Textastic. Basically a one stop shop for web dev..Version: 7.0.1

Could have been betterSamba connection works, terminal works fine too. But few improvements really requires - 1) persistent smb connection, 2) mosh client in addition to ssh terminal. 3) a built in terminal for accessing ipad file system..Version: 9.7.2

BrilliantIn combination with working copy this is the best way to edit code on ios..Version: 6.3.2

Very Good IndeedActually, it’s really the MacOS version that requires a little improving to bring it into line with the apps. Although, it could very much do with RTF support..Version: 6.4.3
