✓ Easy to use.I made my first couple portraits of characters in pixel art and it was actually easy to figure things out. (I draw already, so no, it didn’t grant me the ability to do art instantaneously as I had never done before, unfortunately. And it didn’t even make me look younger or more moisturized :() (Odd way to end a parenthesis right? Anyways,) I actually managed to use this app so easily and since it’s on my phone already, I just did this instead of doom scroll for the last couple of days… I have an understanding of color and shading I never thought possible. ✓ Confusing but GoodI’m usually not the type of person to critique things, but I have a few things to say about this app. It would be nice if when you first download the app you could get the option of a tutorial- or something to help you better understand what’s what. Luckily I have a friend who’s familiar with the app, so that’s lucky. But I’m also having trouble exporting my gifs- for some reason it doesn’t appear in my camera roll. I’ve tried almost every way I could think of but nothing works. This app has a lot of potential, I’m just staying some minor adjustments that I think would help a lot! I’ve only had this app for a few days, so I’m not going to give it a bad rating. I know what this app is capable of, and it’s results are amazing when finished! I’ll just need to get the hang of it. ✓ Robust Tool for Pixel ArtA very powerful pixel editor that is easy to use even on a small touchscreen. Ads are long but only pop up when in menus, which is honestly very thoughtful design, and a decent tradeoff for such an excellent app being free. Would love if it had built-in tile and fixed-palette systems for applications where you’re trying to emulate looks from specific hardware, but having real layers and such good pan & zoom controls are already far more than I expected from a free pixel art app I downloaded on a whim. One critique though: I couldn’t find a setting to invert the pan controls—I can get used to the controls moving the paper, but my natural intuition is to have it move the camera, so I have to re-acclimate whenever I use it..Version: 3.39

✓ Pretty great, but one gripeSo far it’s been the best free pixel art app I’ve used to date, you can do quite a bit with it without having to go through with the in app purchases. The only issue I have with it is that it’s a bit confusing with how it saves, and the system itself doesn’t explain to me what it’s doing when it saves, like I’ll have an untitled work, edit it and the name, then save it and it creates/saves it as a new document instead of overriding the original untitled one. I also don’t know how to delete the documents in order to get rid of those weird duplicates, if it could just be a little more clear then I would give it 5 star..Version: 3.39
✓ Pixel art for game devPixel art is a great way to get back into art and illustration for me, and this app is navigable, relatively intuitive, and the ads are actually pretty unobtrusive and don’t interrupt you in the middle of a piece (only triggered by the main menu, and usually skippable pretty quickly). I tried a few other apps, but they were either difficult to learn how to use quickly or had obnoxious banner/wall ads that took up too much focus or space. I respect a small charge to remove ads, but those apps wouldn’t even let me try the app long enough to LIKE it, let alone make purchases. You can export your files in various ways even without going “pro,” and it’s made jumping into art for indie game dev a lot more enjoyable and accessible. 👌👌✨.Version: 4.87

✓ One of the Best Pixel Art Applications PeriodThis is one of the best pixel art programs/apps especially on the handheld platform. Sure there are some apps with enough tinkering you can probably do some of the same things. For IOS there isn’t much and the quality even for the free version is pretty impressive. I personally use Aseprite but I travel a lot for work. This app works amazingly well and integrates well with Aseprite and Photoshop. Sure doesn’t have every tool, but still beats a lot of the original programs that were used back in the day for pixel art. You may not have a feature or plugin that you are used to and it may take you some more time, but honestly it’s worth it..Version: 4.44

The files transfer so easily to my computer and the quality still remains. The features are great and very useful all around. And it’s free! ✓ Very good, aside from a few minor issuesI use this app all the time. It’s great for drawing on the go or when I don’t feel like booting up my laptop. Lots of features, simple UI, and the ad frequency isn’t too egregious. The fact that it’s free to use is also appreciated. However, I do run into multiple technical issues when trying to export or save my work. The loading bar will usually freeze, forcing me to force shutdown the app. The image still saves, but it’s still a bit annoying. On the other hand, sharing always takes a couple restarts before it exports. ✓ Amazing! Just started using it.I just started using this app because I wanted to get into pixel art and make an rpg. I immediately knew that this is the best app I could use on my phone! ✓ Is this app real?This app has completely changed the way that I work. I am a retro streamer and I have ADD, which makes it hard for me to work in the same spot all day. I have made a dozen emotes since downloading this app last week, all from the comfort of my living room and bed. Before it would take me hours to make one emote because I just couldn’t focus sitting at my computer. Purchasing this was a no-brainer for me after realizing how much it has impacted my life since downloading it. And now I can make banner art with the upgraded canvas size! One thing the app is missing, in my opinion, is the ability to put an actual image on a layer. I like taking pictures and drawing over them to create a pixel art version of my photo, and I wish I could do that in this app. I also wish it was a little easier to save files. After I save the first time, the app doesn’t keep that as the name the next time I go to save and I have to type the file name in all over again. I haven’t written an app review unprompted before, but I am so grateful to the creator of this app for giving people a good way to make pixel art, especially since the site I used to use shut down. I am so incredibly grateful for the resizing feature, which lets me have a general idea of how to make the same image with less pixels. I would have spent an hour making the base for kid sprites otherwise. Also, while I haven’t used it much so far, the rotation tool seems extremely useful for animation. It’s not hard to navigate the app once you figure out which is the layer/frame settings button and which is the menu one, which is great because I get the feeling I would have gotten frustrated and punched something otherwise. Not only that, but it is free AND doesn’t show you an ad every minute. I would estimate that it only shows ads once every two to five times you close out of a project, rather than them popping up in the middle and ruining your focus. ✓ Wow, It’s great!Pixel studio, it does what its intended to do. You can draw, with pixels! Yes its that simple! Except for the annoyance of ads when you are in a situation that needs Wi-Fi. Or the Subscription feature which locks pretty much all cool features. I can understand why you’d need one to make money, but don’t make all of it Subscription based. I feel like there should be an option to edit colours in the palette, because there have been a few times where I accidentally add a duplicate of a colour I already have, or I make a new entry that's extremely similar to another. ✓ Just brilliantIntegration with LOSPEC and google drive are a real bonus. I’m drawing on my iPad with pencil, have a Tiled map open on my PC with the tile set referencing the google drive image. ✓ Finally!I’m a college student studying game dev and this app has been a game changer for me! Sometimes I have a small burst of inspiration but taking the time to turn on my desktop computer, plug in my drawing tablet and open aseprite can be cumbersome. This app lets me quickly grab my iPad and draw something with my apple pen almost immediately. I can tell that the developer put a lot of thought into the features and UI. ✓ Priceless Pixel Art resourceIt has everything you need to start making Pixel sprites, even animated ones. I used this program, the free version, to make sprites for a programming class and it was beyond useful. The controls take a little getting use to if you’re coming from other Art programs like photoshop but it was easy to pick up after a bit of playing around with a fresh canvas. I’ve come back and purchased the ad removal just recently. I was excited to see this is one of the few remaining programs that allows you to make a onetime purchase to remove ads. So many others have swapped to subscription models and I avoid those at all costs. Would be 5 stars if it could save/load work with iOS files / iCloud and had an indexed palette mode. A lasso select tool would also be nice. It would also be nice if you could navigate the zoomed canvas using the minimap. Also, it seems like the latest update has broken the toolbar scale function. I used to have it set to 50% on iPad, but now the minimum I can set it to is 80% meaning the icons are huge and requires unnecessary scrolling. I have access to all the features I need, and I’m sure the paid version would be totally worth it for someone who needed the expanded features. ✓ This app is ALMOST perfectI LOVE this app so much, it is absolutely phenomenal for someone who makes art often especially that being pixel. HOWEVER i have one issue. Yesterday, as i was doing a commission, i came across a problem that i couldnt fix. I had four layers open for the characters movement animations, and then i added other layers to animated butterflies floating around the. I wanted to merge each frame of the butterflies, with the frames of the character, however as i merged the butterflies i realized, oh no, those character frames didnt have visibility on. As i merged them it was too late, the undo button didnt work and all the animation frames were gone 😢 This is a really big problem, it was devastating. Luckily i saved most the frames previously as images but i was unable to re add them to the app cause you cant open different frames onto one piece on the app which is also sort of a problem, meaning i cant fix my work that was lost originally. ✓ Awesome pixel toolI’m surprised I hadn’t stumbled on this app sooner! I’d been searching desperately for a powerful enough pixel app so that I could do game dev work on the go. If the dev continues to work on this app I can definitely see it being my go to! Pros: Has essentials for dev art: color replacer, tile view, plenty of export options. Palette import and export options. Animation tools (I have just been tiling to start so I need to dig into these more) Has some nice UI customization options. I actually really like the gamification of the app with profiles & check ins and such. Cons: The UI layering is janky af. Rather than having a main menu that goes to different folders or canvases, it centers you on a canvas and you access your main menu and i finding it jumps back to my canvas a lot or opens an image in my current canvas over what I’m working on. Layers are kind of wonky, stuff darkens weird when you’re swapping between layers don’t love it. Another random critique would be to unbury some options from the main menu > settings. Ie. grid on/off & tiling mode. I would definitely like to see those as individual tool bar buttons or at least one canvas settings button. I love art apps that have active devs (procreate, aesprite etc) and want to support them so I’m hoping this app will continue to grow!.Version: 2.07

✓ Nice app, but having a few problems exporting sprite sheetsUsing this app to create 2D sprites for my own Unity games. Works well for the most part, but exporting from the desktop version to my desktop doesn’t seem to be easy. Ironically it’s easier to use the mobile app to export to the desktop via airdrop. I also can’t seem to figure out how to export a sprite sheet with the transparent alpha layer in tact. And how to export the sprite sheet as a png, it always seems to be jpeg with a white background which means I have to convert it to png and deal with the white background before it works in my Unity project. Maybe this would work better with the pro version? Maybe I’m missing something? But if I have to use photoshop to redo the alpha layer, I may as well use photoshop for creating my sprites..Version: 3.97

✓ Perfect with huge filename flawThis is a perfect sprite editor, well-designed for iPad. Unfortunately there’s a major flaw with file names. The app seems to get confused between the default filename and the name you save the file as. This means you can’t easily save while working, as you have to manually enter the desired filename every time. ✓ The best pixel art program for iPadsI’ve tried several pixel art programs for the iPad, some of which were completely unusable. This one works well, except when I try to save animations on my iPad. I’m able to save them, but it’s a little slow and the PS screen seems to get stuck, so I just close and reopen the app, or export the still frames and animate them elsewhere. The one thing that I haven’t figured out how to do is copy and flip/mirror an object that I’ve already created. It would be nice if that could be added beside the rotation buttons. *Update I finally figured out how to mirror an image. The one flaw that I can see is that I often want to design something where everything is white because it is tinted later in software. Initially it is impossible to see what you are doing but the transparent background colour can be changed for the main view. Unfortunately the layer and animation previews are still white on white. If I may suggest a new feature I’d personally like, that already partially exists… that being a tile pallet where you can just chose a tile sheet, and tap on a tile and draw that tile on the canvas, sort of like a map/level editor. The biggest criticisms I see here are that the UI is confusing; this really isn’t the case if you are familiar with any other similar software. Even if you aren’t, the most basic tools are so easy and intuitive to use that a child could write a tutorial. You can figure it out, stop complaining about that. There are a couple minute details I’d like to see fixed in this app. The only reason I haven’t posted criticism before is because the developer has been incredibly proactive—most bugs and inconvenient features get fixed with each update. That being said, I’d really like to see the select feature fixed up a bit. The fact that I can’t two-finger-scroll/zoom without losing my selection can be frustrating, though the button controls fix this somewhat. There also seems to be a few bugs with the “flip” functions, though I can usually get them to work after a little trial and error. Animating is easy - I can adjust exactly how long each frame is, no more duplicating frames to make them last longer! Each frame has its own set of layers! The UI is easy to use - functions are put in the menus I’d think they would be put in, meaning no searching for something I need. However, I’ve seen that some users are more confused than I am. I’d like to help with that. First of all; the save and share functions are very different. ‘Save’ saves it to your device as a file, not into your photo gallery. For that, you’ll want to select ‘Share.’ Also, you’ll almost always want to share the artwork at a higher resolution (by using the 2x, 4x, and the rest directly under the image preview). Also, using the Amino Pixel Studio community, you can request help from other users, including me! ✓ I’m making art againI have been a digital art, hobbyist for many years, but in recent years, I’m just haven’t had time to sit down at my computer and make art. Having a means to make digital art on my phone has been a humongous game changer for me. Pixel art is a natural choice because I’m not really able to connect a stylus or tablet to my phone. if I’m already going to be trying with my fingers, I might as well focus more on topping than anything else. ✓ By far the bestI’ve been using this app for a while and it is the best mobile pixel art studio by far. It is easy to use and while it includes in-app purchases, you can use it for free with access to nearly every feature and very few ads which are also short and skippable. The app makes many aspects of pixel art, editing, and animation incredibly easy and beginner friendly, even linking helpful tutorials. There are a few bugs, but none that are very major or difficult to work around. Overall it’s a great app and I haven’t been able to find a better one on mobile devices..Version: 3.39

✓ Great app, but...No custom brushes!! I want the brush tool to let you make custom brushes, which is really important to me. I’m making my first 2D video game using this app to make the graphics, and there are only 2 round brushes, the rest are frames, crosses, X’s, decorative, or dithering brushes!! I really do love the app, and paying for the pro version is definitely worth it, but the only setbacks are the lack of custom brushes, the fact that you can set the brightness of the tiled mode to a maximum of 70%, you can’t edit the tiled sections in tiled mode like you can on Aseprite, and there is no way to choose which axis to tile when in tiled mode!!.Version: 3.32

There are still an few things I would love to see the developers add though: 1. Resize canvas. Especially important for animations where exporting a selection won’t work 2. Reflect a selection / frame. Would be very useful in the common cases where I am making something symmetrical 3 . Two finger tap to undo. ✓ Best pixel art making app on iOSThis app, in my opinion is the best app to use for pixel art on an iOS device, good for burning time if your bored somewhere or just to make cool art, although there is one issue I have experienced and it’s kind of annoying, I will often use the reference feature to add a photo to the background, but the photo easily moves around if you miss tap or drag it, this makes tracing photos onto a high resolution pixel canvas hard as you can accidentally move the image and you have to spent a long time re-putting the image back to its original place, I would like any solution as long as it fixes this problem, weather it’s a reference lock or a photo snapping option, all is good, other than that, amazing app!!.Version: 3.39

I’ve been searching a long time for a good program to make pixel art, but all the ones I’ve tried have been clunky or just plain frustrating to use. But THIS. This app is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The controls are far more sophisticated than any other free program I’ve tried, but aren’t confusing or difficult to get used to. It allows you to expand the canvas while you’re still working on it- which sounds like a small thing but man, I wish more art programs had that. ✓ Best mobile pixel art app I’ve foundEvery other pixel editor pales compared to this, in both ease of use and features. I want to practice pixel art but I don’t get many chances to use the computer. Being able to use this on mobile has made it so I can practice pretty much anywhere. I’m happy with the features as they are tbh but it would be cool to see features similar to what is found in Aseprite, like the ability to index colors, or quickly add an outline to a sprite. It would also be nice to be able to save and upload color palettes. EDIT: looks like color palette stuff is already there. Neat!.Version: 4.05
