MIT Technology Review for Negative User Reviews

No audio read back optionI love MIT Technology Review & I’m a subscriber. However I’m also dyslexic. I wish there was a more accessible / inclusive option to have the text read aloud..Version: 1.5

No access to websiteRead the fine print! Subscribing through Apple does not give unlimited access to technologyreview.com..Version: 1.1

Needs WorkI use the app on my iPad. It is very surprising that an app with the MIT representation, would not have incorporated some basic features such as being able to adjust font size to make it more accessible to this of us who are visually challenged. The content is great, please improve the accessibility functions of the app!.Version: 1.7

App will not open/browser login req’dCurrently I tap on my app and it acts as if its opening but just goes back to my home screen. I am using the current version of the app. Any suggestions. Tho not this app…When I go to articles on technologyreview.com it always asks for me to login. Is there a reason it doesnt recognize me as a subscriber even coming from the app or from The Download emails?.Version: 1.9

Don’t sizeAn institution as savvy as MIT should have an app that can adjust font size. It really reduces its accessibility..Version: 2.1

Basic but works. But why are there 3?!There are 3 mit tech review apps! Why? Each of them has entirely different content 😅… finally settled on this one. Who knows what the difference is … poorly documented.Version: 1.7

GlitchyGood content, poor user experience.Version: 1.5

Fairly basic but functionalIt’s a very simple app, and in that sense it does what it is meant to do. It displays each magazine as an issue and you can then move through the articles. It doesn’t, unfortunately, have any more sophisticated features than that, which you might expect of an app like this. Other magazine-type apps I use have options to change the font size, and have reader modes, dark modes, text-to-speech, etc. This doesn’t seem to have any of those, which is a shame both for general use but especially from an accessibility standpoint..Version: 1.4

Terrible App, Great ContentNo doubt, the content from MIT is terrific. I’ve subscribed for years. But, the content is so difficult to reach. The app can’t keep me logged in. And reading in a browser constantly requires logging in and it’s common to loose the article I was logging in for and need to start all over. I’ve complained multiple times to the staff directly. They never have a solution that lasts. If I wasn’t addicted to the content I would happily drop this annoying process. Wouldn’t you expect that the smart people at MIT would be able to make the subscription and logging in process work? The New York Times can do it, so can many others..Version: 2.5

Lost my money due to to the app glitchI had a subscription and when I signed in using the app, my subscription couldn’t be found. I thought my previous subscription was over so took another subscription. Turns out that my previous subscription has not expired. Reached out to customer, responded after 10 days and literally no use. I cancelled all my subscription. I do not recommended this publication to anyone..Version: 2.5

Functionality is still poorThe app is still not as seamless as the economist or wsj. But there is progress.Version: 1.1

Subscription does not include websiteFine Print: "subscribing in this way does not include unlimited access to technologyreview.com" FAIL i lost $35 buy not reading the fine print... if you want the App AND website access, you must open your account and spend the $35 on the website. Apparently you are punished for using Apple to setup an annually recurring subscription. How does that make sense? I just cancelled my subscription and will continue to buy at the airport newsstand once my remaining issues run out..Version: 1.1

Good articles BUT super bad app- the app doesn’t store on which page you stopped reading - you cannot adjust the font size - doesn’t sync across devices.Version: 1.5

Glitchy LoginUnable to create a new account and link it to my Infinite Connection..Version: 2.5

It’s okAllow reader to hide the top bar, it sat there the whole time spoils the magazine experience..Version: 1.3

Very slow in loadingIronically that a technology review magazine from MIT has a sub par app..Version: 1.1

Cannot loginFor a while I have been waiting for this app. I love reading the review and I pay to read the excellent articles. But this is useless bordering on the insulting...... How can the tech review have an app worse than the economist or the times.Version: 1.1

Wish more features can come outLove their content for sure, but I hope this app can display the articles on the website like Harvard Business Review does..Version: 1.2

Keeps reloading whenever I open the appKeeps reloading and refreshing whenever I reopen the app. Cannot multitask at all. Surprising considering it's 2022..Version: 1.7

Basic app but needs dark modeA basic app that is better than reading the website in a browser, barely. However the app does not accept the subscription login via OAuth (E.g. gmail login), does not remember last magazine or article you were reading and does not have dark mode. In 2022! I think the dev team need to get their development better. Apps like The Atlantic and The Week support dark mode already at an online subscription rate that is very similar..Version: 2.0

App does not work well - can’t login access my paid subscriptionOn iPad, login prompts for user id, but not password. Don’t know if I’m logged in or not, can’t access back issues. Apps basic functionality does not work - MIT please fix this..Version: 1.1

Good app but.The app is fairly good however there is no way to increase the text size. I have to squint to read it..Version: 2.1

Misleading ScamThis is a scam. It is not an actual magazine subscription in the sense that nearly every other similar app is. It (1) provides no access to the same content outside the app (e.g., on the website) and (2) does not support standard iOS features like sharing links or bookmarking or opening in the browser. It should probably be removed from the app store..Version: 1.4

Poor user experience , session managementDoesn’t remember my subscription and always have read on web instead.Version: 1.5

Not Synchronized with Web SubscriptionI purchased the subscription on the phone using the credit card saved in my app store. Then later I want to access from web page, it doesn’t find my account and cannot access any issue..Version: 1.1

UnusableCan not even log in.Version: 1.0

App is awful, content is fineYou know what you’re getting with the magazine. The app is terrible, I deleted it just to use the web browser instead. The app takes forever to load and if you lock your phone it closes everything and needs to load again and you lose your article and your place in it. Still have the same trouble, doesn’t provide any benefit over using a browser..Version: 2.5

Really poor appI purchased a 12 month subscription to this last year and still have many months remaining. Yet the app won’t recognise me and keeps prompting me to purchase the issues. I am absolutely dumbfounded that an institute as prestigious as MIT would associate its brand with this rather broken app.Version: 1.1

New app fails to restore or recognize subscriptionAfter signing into new app > I needed to kill app and reopen before it would show me as a valid subscriber. This is what happened after this new app updated on my phone… Opened new app, signed in with my existing subscription account. App UI would not update and show me as a valid subscriber. Kept show upsell to subscribe and not letting me read the articles. Signed into website to make sure my account was valid and it was. Went back to the app tapped restore purchase and it said success but app still did not update and show me as a valid subscriber. I needed to kill app and relaunch before it would recognize me as a subscriber..Version: 2.5

Something called Tech Review should at least have basic functionalityDoesn’t hold your reading position, can’t read offline..Version: 1.4

Paid for subscription via Apple - app will not let me loginThe credit card attached to my appleID has been charged for the subscription I made - but the app doesn’t recognize the associated email — so I have now paid $50 for content I cannot access. Waiting to hear back from help desk to confirm they will issue a refund..Version: 1.7

Basic functionality missingCan not change font size Can not mark text or highlight No bookmarks, need to use paper notes to remember where I left ... Please add this features, thx.Version: 1.1

ONE SUBSCRIPTIONHave just one subscription platform please.Version: 1.5

App not openingThe app will not launch.Version: 1.5

Log in issuesCan’t properly log in - does not load password input page..Version: 1.0

Always ResettingEvery time my screen turns off and I open the app back up the article resets to the top and I have to go and find my place again. This is annoying. Also it would be nice to be able to download articles so I could read them on a plane or in the subway..Version: 1.4
