SmartSDR™ FlexRadio Systems® Pros

Step in the right direction but needs further workThis software is most welcome to OSX users and adds to the suite of native SW apps for ham radio like MacLoggerDX that are superior to competing Windows applications. That being said, this new OSX SW is rather frustrating for the following reasons: 1. The windows cannot be rearranged much. There is one long verticca column that you are stuck with and it more than fills your screen. 2.The settings are inconsistent with respect to Tx and Rx. For instance, the TX bandwidth setting is a wheel, and the RX bandwidth setting is a graph. They both should be the same. 3. The noise reduction is actuated in two places but only one allows adiustment. 4. Many things like band selection require opening a sub-menu. Who wants to do that? 5. The tuning flag covers up the signal and makes it hard to work DX. You can't move it, apparently. 6.There is a much better layout on HPSDR for the Anan that sets the standard, with every frequently used function in the open, and not under sub-menus. 7. Windows don't scale well. 8. The separatable VFO wheel is too small. 9. If you are going to supply WSJT-X, then why not WSPR too, and why not have it work on 630M which the 6400 is capable of. Other than that I like it. It sometimes does crash at present. Let's hope the layout gets fixed. Also, there seems to be no support for a Flexradio station running the new Power Genius amp. I was about to buy that amp but am still not sure I can control it remotely, which is how my station is set up. It has been pretty stable and the audio quality with the native Mac HW has been very good. Bravo - let's keep going, and do look at HPSDR or Thetis for the right way to lay out SW like this for DX and CW ops..W1xyzVersion: 1.4.12

One of the best Apps I ownMarcus continually fixes bugs and adds functionality without taking a break. All I can say is its worth every cent. I can see some Flex users that are PC based eventually migrating to Mac. That says something!.VE6 landVersion: 1.9.09

SmartSDR™ FlexRadio Systems® Cons

Nice, but not great for digital usersI've been using SSDR for iOS since it's introduction, and found the software to be intuitive, easy to use, and performs well. All of this has translated into the macOS version. It's a very visually appealing app on my aging 7 year old Macbook Air, and runs without issue. A testimant to the programmer's capabliities. My issue is that this is a $160 desktop class app that provides mostly iOS levels of functionality. Firstly, the lack of a native DAX solution, of which the reccomendation to fix is an additional $100 piece of software from Rogue Amoeba. Keep in mind that this is just traditional DAX audio channels, and does not inlude any ability to get IQ audio from the radio. CAT solutions are limited to two connections at once. After tax, we're near $300 in to get something close, but not near the same level as SSDR for Windows. It's a hard sell. If you're an SSB or CW kinda guy, it's a wonderful soloution. If you're more into digital stuff, and want to do someting/anything other than the built-in FT8 solution, just be aware of the lack of IQ and CAT limitations and added cost for external software to make it happen..Fizz306Version: 2.0.15

Not worth it. Very buggy. FT8 client is worthless.Yes, it "works". Does it work well? No. Especially the FT8 client, as it won't run F/H mode, won't let you force transmit, and it goes into standby if the person you're trying to call is working someone else. Totally worthless in a rare DX pileup. You can either use the logging client or the transmit client, not both at the same time like one would with a real logger. I also noticed a lot of bugs when trying to configure it. I very much regret buying this software. For the same money, I could have just bought a Windows laptop and had something that worked well. So disaapointed..SierraHarropVersion: 2.5.05
