Dictionary Linguee for Positive User Reviews

Amazing AppGreat application, I improved my English vocabulary thanks to this application I really like the offline mode, I highly recommend this application to all those who want to learn a new language.Version: 2.5.3

Great app with a few issuesI find this app for German vocabulary to be invaliable and easy to use most of the time. It has many good features and the examples are very helpful. It still freezes up regularly, which is very annoying. But the biggest problem I have with it is that a user cannot increase the font size of the text, which is very small. These things need to be fixed, then the product would deserve five stars..Version: 2.5.4

Fantastic when learningI found this to be the most helpful app when I was learning and trying to determine the gender of words. I highly recommend it!.Version: 2.5.2

FantasticThis app is super. Excellent vocabulary and the ability to download dictionaries so it works offline. First rate!.Version: 2.5.2

Most useful app!Excellent app!.Version: 2.5.4

RatingFunctions well as a dictionary and gives useful examples. Does not provide audio nor exact translation of phrases..Version: 2.5.3

Linguee - handy im Handy! This app and the original website are so useful, when it comes to looking up German words. What I like in particular, is that you not only get to use it as a dictionary, but you also get to see varying uses of the words you look up in true context. All that's lacking is a list of the most popular searches for the given day. I seem to remember that the website has that tool - if the app had that, then it would be 5* for me, no questions asked..Version: 2.5.2

An excellent learning toolI have found this application very useful. It helps me bilingually and expands my vocabulary significantly..Version: 2.5.2

Language is phrases, not wordsLinguee is the next step above in learning translation because it deals not just in words, but phrases, colloquialisms, metaphors and rich context..Version: 2.5.3

Very GlitchyHave had the App maybe about a week now, and almost every time I access the app, it will freeze up on me. I won’t be able to give any keyboard input and none of the app’s controls will work. I can close the app, come back to it at a later time and all will work fine. I give the app 4 stars only because the content is so good. Every time I get a notification of app updates, I’m hoping Linguee will have one to fix this problem, but no such luck..Version: 2.5.4

Would be even more useful with a wider range of source textsThis is a fantastic app. You can see vocabulary in context and learn the register in which a word is used, the range of meaning it conveys and how it can be deployed in a sentence. My only complaint is that the range of source texts could be wider. There are many technical manuals and political papers, not enough artistic statements and explanations..Version: 2.5.1

An AMAZING translation App !!!!This app is a surpising gift for any student. You can download its Dictionary, it directs you to all of the top alternative Internet references, it provides an AMAZINGLY practical resource of many contextual uses for most words, it appears automaticaly in different forms for instant reference and use, it allows convenient “drill-downs” for amplification, relevant synonyms, ‘frequent-use’ suggestions, Instant contextual capturing as you type, and more. As far as I can tell, these German developers saw a “need,” and made and fullfilled a commitment to flll it. Congratulations to all! And Thank You!!!.Version: 2.5.2

A step up from any other translation app I have usedI used this app on my travels to Sweden and Denmark. I was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy and the many examples it provided. Its seems we have entered a new age of digital translation. I wonder if this would be as hard to do for non-latin based languages like Arabic..Version: 2.5.2

Linguee reviewI'm a French interpreter I use this app to prepare for jobs using cross referencing for more complex vocabulary. It contains extracts from formal texts allowing you to see the spelling, how the word is used and the context. It allows you to switch between languages or back and forth between two languages. It has helped me a lot even for more complex terminology..Version: 2.5.1

Great appGreat app with very good English < -> “other” dictionaries. The two best things are that you can download offline dictionaries (which when you are in a foreign country is very useful) and that it gives you plenty of examples (useful when dealing with more colloquial things). One suggestion is to include some verb conjugations (even if only in online mode). This would be relatively easy to implement but would add even more value..Version: 2.5.2

Great but...Excellent dictionary. Love the examples of words in use that are pulled from the web. But! It would be perfected by the addition of verb conjugations..Version: 2.5.2

Great appBest dictionary It has been very helpful on my studies.Version: 2.5.2

IndispensableThis is a smart and valuable idea. Time and again Linguee comes to the rescue after my conventional French-English dictionary app (for which I paid) has let me down. Highly recommended..Version: 2.5.2

Easy access to vocabulary in contextThis app is perfect for those times when the exact word is on the tip of your tongue but you need to be sure it fits the context exactly..Version: 2.5.2

Most useful real world Spanish dictionaryThe app is amazingly useful when learning Spanish at any level. The real world examples really give more than just a one to one word translation. You can really see how the language is structured and the way real people speak and write in both languages you are translating from and to. I use this every day now and I’m quite a competent Spanish speaker anyway but this is helping me take it to another level and I can see the next stage of my learning rocketing because of this app. I love the way you copy words from an article or book and when you open the app it’s already pasted in and ready for you to read the various examples. Very well thought out app. Would recommend to anybody..Version: 2.5.3

Excelente para aprendizadoExcelente app para aprendizado. Uso muito. Recomendo..Version: 2.5.3

Brilliant offline dictionaryI can’t recommend this enough as a tool for helping learn languages. If you don’t know I word, type it would n, and the app will give you translations, and if online will also give you examples of its use in text. Brilliant app..Version: 2.5.2

Great but some flawsSeems to have a huge vocabulary (eg more that Dict) and integrates well into iPhone (but sometimes highlighting a work takes one to Lingue and in some other contexts it does not). Really annoying is that you can't see the first letters of the word you are typing into the search..Version: 2.5.2

Looks GreatI am visiting Germany in a few days and I have only just downloaded this app. It looks very promising. However, I really need a bit more time with it to be able to give an objective opinion. On first impressions, though, it looks and feels great..Version: 2.5.2

A real lifesaver!I am married to a German and we are about to move from Wales to Germany. I am not a natural linguist and having Linguee available has enabled me to communicate much more easily and to get my point across. Thank you for this wonderful piece of software. Being able to highlight and then double click a word or phrase to translate, is great for emails..Version: 2.5.2

IndispensableI came across this app in the process of preparing a translation of a piece of technical German. It has afforded me a high degree of confidence that I have accurately rendered the sense and meaning the language. Even though it has occasionally glitched and frozen, so I have had to restart it, I would recommend this app to anyone who wants both a dictionary and multiple examples of the language in original contexts. Thank you!.Version: 2.5.3

C’est super!Il m’a aidé beaucoup à appendre les langues!.Version: 2.5.2

IndispensableI am learning German. I work mostly on an iPad. I added Linguee as a ‘second’ app running over on the right side of the screen, tucked away out of sight most of the time but always ready to pop out whenever I need to check something I’m reading or listening to. Its content and construction seems to cover all bases, with extensive example sentences as well as the usual definitions of the word or phrase in question. It is without a doubt one of the best bilingual dictionaries I know, and easily the best I know of available as an iPad app. Highly recommended..Version: 2.5.2

Incredibly usefulI speak German with my kids and parents-in-law. Linguee is the most important language resource I have ever found. It provides more subtlety and nuance than any static dictionary..Version: 2.5.3

Pretty goodI’ve been using this app for a good while. But the app hasn’t updated in 2 years. These days since the last iOS 14 update, it started glitching. It keeps saying “Linguee pasted from Wikipedia” or from whatever source you paste from - endlessly, and sometimes without even pasting anymore. The auto clipboard-pasting used to be useful while reading, because it cut some time and gestures if you want to do a quick search. But now, I just had to turn it off. If they don’t update a fix, and you like this app, this ⤵️ is the best option. To make it so clipboard doesn’t automatically paste the word you copied from somewhere: — 1. Open options ⚙️(gear shape on bottom right). 2. Switch off “Look up clipboard content“. 3. Close and reopen app. Now it should be fixed. —- I just paste things myself now. No big deal. Regular review: Linguee is very useful while reading in languages like German and Spanish, and you come across something like “ Das hat geklappt “ or “ imitar “ . It gives some examples of how to use words in sentences, as well as other possible meanings..Version: 2.5.2

Great translation, poor loadingAble to see words translated with full context and further references as well as examples used in a sentence. My only problem is swapping between apps or just loading the page is often very slow and is glitchy roaring the keyboard. When pulling up the app once it’s already open it will very often take 5-10 seconds to load and respond and very often not load what I had previously..Version: 2.5.4

Un des meilleurs dictionnaires avec le contexte du mot recherché à l’appui!Le meilleur!.Version: 2.5.3

Great utility, but it freezes often :(See above.Version: 2.5.4

AmazingThis is the best dictionary I have ever come across. Not only does it give you a translation and then a series of other options it also shows these in context by using the Internet and that’s super helpful to get the right words for the right contexts..Version: 2.5.3

Get the true meaningWhen I was in Japan, I asked a couple if they would like a picture together. The boy protectively grabbed his girlfriend and ran off. Without realizing it, I used the inclusive form of “together”- I asked them to take a picture with me! If I had this, I wouldn’t have had that problem! Linguee gives you verified translations that help you find the matching nuances between the two languages. It surpasses dictionaries and gets you closer to asking a native speaker. I can not recommend this enough..Version: 2.5.2

Good but no keyboard shortcutsPros: It works and is often more useful than other dictionary apps Cons: It’s kind of janky (e.g. the search field will re-populate the last query a few seconds after the app opens fresh, making it hard to open and search quickly). The app itself would be better with keyboard shortcuts especially for iPad use. Better than most translation-oriented/dictionary apps nonetheless..Version: 2.5.4

Innovative app in language translationI love that feature where you select and copy a word and switch (or in iPad, multitask) to this app and the appears. Of course it also so helpful to be able to compare multiple translations already done by others. The different approaches taken with similar texts allows you to choose the way you want to go in terms of learning phrases or doing translation yourself. Fantastic! It would be helpful if there were a way to easily choose between the set of translations and the dictionary portion—an ability to switch back and forth..Version: 2.5.3

Sans phrase complèteLe.Version: 2.5.4

I can’t do without itWhich is why it is bad that it has some glitches, like freezing and crashing.Version: 2.5.3

Concise and accurateConcise and accurate. Especially like the offline dictionaries, for free too! There are very few free apps nowadays with as many features as Linguee.Version: 2.5.2

A Hidden gem in language apps!Personally, I recommend this app to anyone who is learning a language. I’m studying French A - Level at the moment, and before finding this app I struggled a lot. I relied on Google translate too much, and it doesn’t translate very well. With this app, it gives me a range of contexts and choices, as well as an option if they can’t find the word im looking for in several internet sources. 5 stars out of 5!.Version: 2.5.3

Muy útil! One of the better translation apps out there, especially for tricker words. Example- the English word “cell” has at least 4 common meanings. Jail cell. Cell, as in microorganism. Cell- short for cellular phone. Cell- a group of spies/terrorists in a country. These different uses are listed, and the appropriate translation listed. Then, you are provided numerous examples in context. This app is NOT MEANT to translate large phrases! It is designed as a dictionary. Use it as such, and you will be very satisfied! (Native USA English, learning Spanish and Portuguese).Version: 2.5.2

Give it a go.The best ever one!.Version: 2.5.3

This app is the bombWow, its great, it has so much features, i can ask a phrase and it shows me how its used in a sentence plus i can click a word and it will show me the sound.Version: 2.5.2

Wonderful AppI have used this App for years for German and French translation. What is wonderful about it is it is so up to date and will translate phrases when necessary that you never could in a written dictionary. Certain words that are actually names or historical facts are covered too. Thankyou Linguée!.Version: 2.5.3

Perfect - 1 suggestion thoughThe app has a feature that randomly asks you if you remember the translation of x phrase/word that you have searched. Great idea, well executed. As someone learning a language I appreciate it a lots and would like it to appear more often. My suggestion is to elaborate on the feature so the user can define the frequency at which the ‘quizzes’ appear..Version: 2.5.2

So goodBest online foreign language dictionary I’ve ever used.Version: 2.5.2

Used for English-French TranslationI use this app all the time. I’m American living in France, learning the language. I loved being able to download the vocabulary because I don’t have data most of the time. The example sentences were also one of my favorite features. However, I found that there were not very many food name translations (this could be because of many reasons), however it would have been nice to be able to use this app more for understanding menus. Overall, really love it, so helpful but can still improve!.Version: 2.5.2

Great service, frustrating app bugsI use Linguee dozens of not hundreds of times a day learning German. I am a huge fan! However it also means if I’m running into the same issues all the time, the app freezing, being unable to type / search when returning to the app, it gets really beyond frustrating. I feel like I’m at a point where I don’t want to use another app for my go to mobile dictionary, but I may need to. I think the issue may lie with suspending the app while searching, and it not handling this event properly. Without this one bug of being able to quickly search a term without clicking on a search result causing the app to freeze or sometimes crash, it’s effectively everything I want in a multi-lingual dictionary. Please fix this y’all ;_;.Version: 2.5.3

Awesome digital dictionary formatAwesome digital dictionary format and an incredibly productive tool for learning your target language as once you have a small grasp of the language you can use the full phrase and sentence translation to examine the form and function of the words and phrases of your target language, i like it so much that I sometimes donate to the creators when I have spare change in my account forget Duolingo, this is the way to do it.Version: 2.5.4

Best translator in the marketI use Linguee to translate the languages I speak. First, it gives translation in context, which is amazing. Second, it gives various options. Lastly, it often gives me better translation choices than I, as a native speaker, come up with. As explained elsewhere Linguee is more of a “translation memory”, based on how words have been translated in context in the past. It does not have as many languages as other apps, but I imagine it is because they take a depth rather than a breadth (and shallow) approach. It does cover all the major languages. Hands down, Linguee and its sister app DeepL are the best translators currently in the market. Stay ahead of the curve Linguee/DeepL!.Version: 2.5.4

Fantastic! And free, with no ads! It's really useful to see example sentences, and real transactions from the web. I have tried many translation apps, and this has the best design and the best combination of features. The only thing I would like is verb conjugations, so that if I search for "comprendre" for example, I could easily find "compris" etc. But that's a small thing..Version: 2.5.2

Bon appHelpful.Version: 2.5.3

Great app, if only it wouldn’t keep freezingThe beauty of Linguée is the list of source references for each word that gives you some context. This is very helpful when a word has a secondary, figurative meaning. A combination of the various dictionary meanings of a word and usage examples is unbeatable. The only problem is that the app freezes regularly - maybe every half-dozen times it’s accessed. Closing and re-opening the app fixes it, but it is *by far* the worst app on my phone in this regard. Still, it’s worth the trouble..Version: 2.5.4

Great app! Offline dict; sample sentences; related searches; sometimes limited in scope for slangI love this app. Besides the big database of real example sentences, my favorite feature of the app is the drop-down list of phrases using the search word, that updates while you’re typing. You can also download dictionaries for offline use. The only downside I’ve encountered, it doesn’t do well (for Spanish at least) with slang words and phrases; for those, I typically have to look somewhere else. Still 5 stars for a GREAT app!.Version: 2.5.2

An indispensable online tool for writing FrenchI am good at French but writing important documents needs this app. This app replaces your constant use of French Dictionary and gives you instant different layers of meaning of different words. The outstanding feature of this app is providing you instant diverse linguistic references which help you use your required french word in appropriate context. The best part of this app is that it is FREE :).Version: 2.5.2

Excellent resourceAs a french-canadian, i am fluent in french but sometimes need a quick double-check for spelling or to find the best word for the context in which i wish to use it. Linguee is fantastic. It's not only reliable and portable, but can be used offline and provides contextual examples from the web! This app is a must-have..Version: 2.5.3

Two thumbs up!Quick easy and helpful.Version: 2.5.4

Super AppThe top app for looking up words and understanding their context of use. For each definition it provides examples and then a series of real life examples where the word was used. A suggestion would be to add the Präteritum and Perfekt forms of irregular verbs. That would be heaven..Version: 2.5.2

Great language appFinding the context phrases very useful in learning different ways of using words much better than a simple dictionary and being able to download dictionary so you don’t need internet is a huge bonus.Version: 2.5.2

ConsultationRapide précise et informative O.Version: 2.5.3

Useful examples of usage.I am not always sure that the translations into Spanish from English reflect current usage. It maybe that the language is a little dated or formal, or the Spanish people we meet use slang. Otherwise, I find the app easy to use, comprehensive, and I like the examples they give where a word or phrase appears in real life text..Version: 2.5.2

Best language dictionary appIt’s the best language dictionary app. I have bought and tried every one I could find and Linguee is the best by far. I am a student learning French and I use it every day. I use it less since I have moved into intermediate level but when I started a year ago Linguee was a huge helper for me. Having tried every other app I could find I can say confidently that they are not as easy to use. There is nothing even close..Version: 2.5.2

Can’t download offlineVery nice app but I can’t download the offline German English dictionary.Version: 2.5.3

Super app, intuitive designVery intuitive. It automatically recognises the language of the word you are typing and gives you example sentences in addition to one word translations. The best part is that it allows you to tap on any word and you are offered options like pronunciation, word search etc. Fabulous!.Version: 2.5.2

So very helpful!Linguee is great. I use it all the time for my French, and have downloaded the offline dictionary. Even without internet connection you are provided with one or two sentences in which you can see the contextual use of whichever word you’ve looked up, and when online you are provided with endless more. The layout is also very professional and attractive to read. Top quality for sure!.Version: 2.5.3

Must-have app/App essentielleI’m not a great collector of apps, but I think Linguee is exceptionally good. I have a University Diploma in French language and literature, but day by day I find Linguee an essential guide in looking for a forgotten or unknown phrase or finding the right word. Linguee is a premier app. Je n’ai pas l’habitude de collectionner les apps, mais, à mon avis, Linguee est quelque chose d’exceptionelle. J’ai un diplôme universitaire en langue et littérature française, mais jour par jour je trouve Linguee un guide essentiel dans la recherche d’une expression oubliée ou inconnue ou à trouver le mot juste. Linguee est une app de haut niveau..Version: 2.5.2

Happy UserIn order to keep up with my German, I’ve made a commitment with a friend to read at least five minutes of German every day, and then I sent her a text. She does the same thing except she is reading Swedish. This accountability is fun and it also works. I found the Linguee app extremely helpful, easy to use and very satisfying. I feel like I’m learning so much from it. I highly recommend it to other friends who read foreign languages..Version: 2.5.3

Have not found anything that even comes close!Linguee is the app I have wanted for years and only in the last year discovered. The way words are laid out (I’m mostly using the German to English and English to German) with lots of examples in context is so helpful for teasing out the nuances that you want to employ or avoid. I do a lot of checking of my translations and word usage and Linguee is spot on..Version: 2.5.2

My go to dictionaryMy native-speaking French teacher recommended this one and she was right. Three years of use now confirms this..Version: 2.5.3

Amazing app, needs small changes and fixesThe app is truly amazing, the content is well written and the design is fantastic, but I wish that the “pronounce” button is right beside the word without the need to press on the word and then press the pronunciation button, this will save a lot of time and effort when reading a hard article and you need to translate and hear the pronunciation of a lot of words. Also “look up for clipboard” option does not work in split-screen and sliding view. Other than that everything is amazing..Version: 2.5.3

Legendary lifesaverAmazing app helps me so much thanks heaps.Version: 2.5.1

Ease of useI think if you’re already reasonably proficient with one of the languages on the app, and you need quick translations and example uses, this is the best app I’ve found. The offline dictionary is also very useful. Fantastic!.Version: 2.5.2

Best translation dictionary for GermanThe translations and examples in Linguee are the best by far out of all the German-to-English apps I've tried..Version: 2.2.3

Excellent for language learningLove this app and how it searches for uses of the phrase in question via online sources. The fact that it also gives you more often than not example sentences of many of the various uses that a word has is also really helpful. The app does have a tendency to freeze occasionally and it would be great if this could be fixed, but it still deserves at least 4.5 stars.Version: 2.5.4

Best translation AppI love this App - it is very informative and gives you many possibilities which allows you to make a better informed decision! 👍.Version: 2.5.2

The best translator I’ve ever met!We know some words are really hard to translate because their indistinct meanings and contexts, however this app allows me to find the word in the right context I needed to use it. Definitely worth it!.Version: 2.5.3

GaenselThis app is so good I’m looking for the catch. I can choose to load dictionaries wifi or via my provider. I can choose offline from within the app. Translation is adequate offline but online - WOW The variety of dictionaries is good too. I use English and French.Version: 2.5.2

The only dictionary app I use (for German)This app is amazing. It is very clean looking, easy to use, and available for offline use. My favorite part is the online feature which shows you the use of words in context from the internet. This helps me see how words are used in idioms and phrases, which case certain words take, and reminds me of the grammar rules I’ve forgotten since I last took a language class. My only complaint is that there is no Turkish. I would love a German-Turkish or Turkish-English dictionary on here, especially since I’ve been unable to find any truly trustworthy Turkish dictionary apps. Thanks so much for an amazing product, and hope you add more languages in the future!.Version: 2.5.1

HcfdvgherhI like it because it helps me learn French.Version: 2.5.4

One of the best free bilingual dictionariesI use the Portuguese-English translations, and rarely do I find that there’s any words missing. Plus you can see which are European versus Brazilian portuguese which is very useful for his language. And the recorded pronunciations are great. Would like to see verb conjugations (and maybe more example sentences, perhaps) but that’s a small criticism, and there are other apps specialising in that anyway..Version: 2.5.2

Awesome and easy to use!I use it for all of my language studies and love it! It gives multiple word choices and examples of how to use each one. It also gives real life examples of the word you searched in actual documents, which can be extremely helpful! It’s super easy to use and has an offline option if you need to take it on the go. I definitely recommend it..Version: 2.5.2

Contextual clues make it great! For every word there are many examples, many sentences, that show exactly how whatever you are looking up is used in daily life. This is so much better than ordinary dictionary‘s they just give you a definition but don’t show you how people use it to communicate. Ordinary dictionary‘s lead to very stilted and awkward conversational skills in Portuguese. The real value of this program comes when you reach intermediate skills, and can appreciate the value of knowing the many ways a word is used in ordinary conversation. This is not to say that it has no value for a beginner, it does. But it has my conversational skills got better I can do appreciate more the incredible design of this program..Version: 2.5.3

Nice little app that I’ve been using for GermanIn the morning when I listen to German radio and don’t understand a word, I use this app to figure out what the news is. Only glitch is that it sometimes freezes, but that might just be my old smartphone..Version: 2.5.3

As a New Zealander learning françaisLingui has never let me down. Examples are great. I use this tool more than others available because of it’s accuracy..Version: 2.5.1

CleanVery clean app. I love it..Version: 2.5.4

Good dictionary, fast searchingI am really enjoying the Linguee dictionary so far, and my review focuses on the Portuguese/English portion. The app is very good for finding words quickly—suggestions pop up as you’re typing, and the suggestions even include similarly spelled words. This is particularly useful when you’re not entirely sure how a word is spelled. The translations so far are very good. I really like the examples given below the definitions—seeing words used in the context of a sentence helps cement it in the brain better. However, the dictionary could really use a “favorites” or “flash card” option to review words and phrases. While there is a history of recently searched words, an option to save particular words/phrases would jump this app up to a five star review..Version: 2.5.2

Advised by U3A tutor to use LingueeOur U3A tutor suggested that we would be able to find more accurate and appropriate translations using Linguee. I have been using it for a couple of weeks and have been delighted by the depth and range of the vocabulary I can discover in context. Linguee is very easy to use, and is equivalent to having a thesaurus to refer to when translating from Spanish to English and vice versa.Version: 2.5.2

Probably the best Ger>Eng translation dictionaryI use the daily while I am currently learning German. Coupled with Deepl these tools are essential and have helped me immensely. The fact the are both free is amazing. The only fault I have with Linguee is it can be painfully slow sometimes, that’s the one improvement I’d like to see. More responsiveness. But thanks to the devs on this great app 👍.Version: 2.5.3

Absolutely worth it, but tends freezeThe app is incredible considering it’s free. I like that you can download the dictionaries for free, and I really appreciate the fact that I can search multi-word phrases to translate. The main problem is that the app freezes all the time and is often slow and buggy. If this gets fixed, the app would be perfect..Version: 2.5.4

Excellent resourceI frequently need to translate English into French on technical documents. Not only is this a very convenient app for this purpose, but I find it useful to see a variety of options and their source to know which is most appropriate..Version: 2.5.3

Very niceIt’s very helpful for my French class, no ads ad everything works really well. Nice interface too :).Version: 2.5.4

Very helpfulI am a professional interpreter, and I occasionally use Linguee to double check terms. I like the fact that they’re in context and you can see what country or website they’re from, so I can decide for myself whether the translation seems accurate for my situation. It is also quite user friendly..Version: 2.5.4

Excellent tool for language learningHave been using Linguee for years. At the moment using it to learn German. Absolutely invaluable in helping me to learn words, particularly the more complex ones, in their proper context..Version: 2.5.3

Very useful appApart from a weird bug with the search field where the first letter of the word you type is not visible, I love this app. Very quick and easy way to find the meaning of words I read in German, and I like the real life examples of usage..Version: 2.5.2

Great additional app to utilize for Language Learning NeedsAs we all come short in perfection, so does this App, ... however, utilizing his app alongside a regular translation app like Google Translate will absolutely help you cross examine your target language adequately enough to maintain a high level of interpreting and understanding texts. I personally believe that this is how the app should be intended to be utilized. This app helps gives everyday usage and perspective while a translator gives more direct translation and linear thought..Version: 2.5.2

So useful!!This app is so good!! Under the definitions you get example of usage in sentences!! And it’s a multilingual dictionary !!!.Version: 2.5.4

Fantastic for russian and englishThe only issue is it sometimes crashes, but that may be more a fault from me having an oldiPhone rather than the app..Version: 2.5.4

Excellent online and offI’ve been using Linguee for a few years now as I’ve been learning German, and watched it evolve just when I needed it. The offline dictionary was amazing for when I went on an exchange program, and the context given for words on the online dictionary is invaluable for choosing the correct tone in written work..Version: 2.5.2

Highly practical and realistic toolFantastical app to use as a compliment.Version: 2.5.3

Lovely app butLovely app and so informative. It’s the best I’ve found to translate verbs and also the examples are incredibly helpful so I can full understand when to use the verb. Two slight annoyances with the app though. It crashes and sticks often (I have a brand new phone with lots of storage so I doubt it’s the phone’s fault.) and sometimes it refreshes itself whilst I’m looking at a verb. Other than that, it’s the best but those fixes would make it super awesome..Version: 2.5.4

Excellent app. Use it all the time as language tutor. As a language tutor with thorough knowledge of French and German, I was always sceptical of such apps but Linguee has completely converted me. By showing many examples in context you can pick the correct translation. Fantastic quality for a free app..Version: 2.5.4

Helping me enormously in mastering complex German vocabularyAfter studying steadily for the last year I am now able to read German mainstream and business news with a 3-5% unknown-word rate. That means I can reasonably get the gist without a dictionary. But this was only achieved through systematically working through articles using iPad tools including Linguee. Much of this complex vocab involves terms with multiple meanings, or terms that need to be understood as phrases, not single words. That's why Linguee was crucial to this mastery..Version: 2.5.1

LingueeI use this many times each day and find it invaluable. I use the German, Spanish, French, Russian & (less) Danish. The alternatives and contextualising are really really helpful. It is also really quick. Thank you more than I can say. Caroline AGARWALA.Version: 2.5.4

5 stars, although I would love a featureI often look up the same word more than once, and would love a feature where I can save words to photos. I think this would help build up vocabulary and make it easier for people to transport the words to a quiz app or something. Regards, thanks for the great app.Version: 2.5.4

Your dictionaryIt’s yis v. Good but can you also put Cantonese voice and a bit more explain action on the english too.Version: 2.5.2

The absolute best mobile/online dictionaryOut of all the online dictionaries I’ve tried, Linguee always has the most entries even for niche words. The contextual examples are always relevant and plentiful. The app works perfectly so I have no complaints..Version: 2.5.2

Best app for GermanAlways gives good translation with examples and alternatives. Better than all the other translation apps as it provides many examples in context. So far has never let me down..Version: 2.5.2

Love it!This app is really helpful. It is so easy to use and beneficial while you are learning french..Version: 2.5.3

SuperThis really fantastic. It was recommended by my German teacher and it puts the vocabulary in proper context with examples of phrases. Highly recommended.Version: 2.5.2

Best and deepest translation engineThe best and deepest translation engine I have ever used. It defines the word, sure, but it also pulls actual usage from real texts. This is extremely valuable for understanding words in proper contacts and in many different usages. I use it every day and my studies of German, usually multiple times a day. It has become a sensually for me. I highly recommend it to anyone studying or speaking German..Version: 2.5.2

One of my favorite app for many reasons!Love this app. I’ve never had a problem with it. It’s quick, I’m able to find different popular true meanings in many languages, never has crashed, ever! I love how it gives you many translations of on word, tells you the most common to least common, with written examples. This app is great for anyone who is learning another language, who knows another language or just for fun..Version: 2.5.2

Favourite language appI am currently studying for my A level French and this app is an absolute dream. It’s the absolute best tool I have for finding idioms and grammar structures for specific sentences. It makes it so easy to see how other people have written a sentence and to compare across sources for the most accurate translation. I also love that the phrase I request is given in context and the layout of the app is just great. I would (and do) recommend to any language learner..Version: 2.5.2

Saved me buying two dictionaries. This app is incredible! As someone studying two languages, it is great not to need multiple dictionary apps on my phone. Furthermore, the examples and contextual reading is amazing! Truly invaluable for getting a grasp on how a word is used in the real world, especially for words that may not have any direct translation and instead serve a grammatical purpose!.Version: 2.5.3

User since 2016Best translation app out there. I love that it shows you real text examples of language usage..Version: 2.5.4

My favorite multi-lingual dictionaryLinguee is a must-have reference app for language learners! It is so easy to use my mom could do it. It offers many languages and it’s easy to switch between them; it even suggests a language if you have the wrong one selected. The example sentences are simple enough to help me understand the connotation of whichever word I’m looking up, and they introduce other new words. Often I can figure out those new words from the context. I love that it automatically looks up whatever is in my clipboard (eg from another app), especially while multitasking with Linguee beside a foreign language text on my iPad. The only thing I would add is verb conjugation. It’s still the best even without that! ¡Muchas gracias!.Version: 2.5.2

Excellent translation app, minor UI bugsI use Linguee a lot to translate from Spanish, and it’s really helping me a lot, especially when the text involves idiomatic expressions — which generally don’t translate well in word by word format. I like almost everything about the app. There is into a small UI glitch when typing text on latest iOS and latest app version, which hides part of the typed text under the left corner of the input field. This makes it hard to correct mistyped letters in the beginning of words. Except for this minor UI glitch, everything is amazing though..Version: 2.5.2

Absolutely the bestA truly brilliant French-English dictionary. You don’t need to switch between input languages: just type a word and it will give you translations from both languages if applicable. Each word has examples of use in sentences, so you can be sure you’re getting there right translation. This isn’t the case with most dictionaries: if you want there French for, say, “chair”, you need context to choose between chaise, fauteuil and siège - or whether you’re talking about the leader of an organisation. There are also plentiful examples of the word in use gleaned from online sources, with translations, for extra clarity. The app will also (optionally) automatically paste words from your clipboard, when looking up translations from other apps. This really is the best translation dictionary there is..Version: 2.5.3

Hooray! It’s working againHooray, the search field and iOS14 issues have been fixed. Pity it took a hammering from reviews to get the developers to act. I had deleted it and gone to a competitor; glad to see it’s back, but please talk with users..Version: 2.5.3

Amazing.I was not expecting this App to be this good. The developers did an incredible job..Version: 2.5.3

Very useful!!The App works perfectly well, you can even download the whole dictionary to view it offline. Not only does it show you several different translations, it also looks up examples in the internet and presents them to you. Very useful, my favourite translation app!!.Version: 2.5.2

A great app. Super usefulI am living in Germany and I find this app really useful. It has a great representation of the words. The pronunciation is very helpful for some of the tongue twisting words. A great addition I think would be the ability too create a simple flash card with the main definition so one can review and read and memorize.Version: 2.5.4

Perfect tool for any skill levelI am a native English speaker who speaks Spanish well, but not often. For the speaker whose grammar is good, but who needs an active vocabulary of the words you commonly use in English, Linguee is the perfect tool. It’s a very comprehensive translation engine for anyone seeking the context and subtlety that matches the way you normally speak English, without having to flounder around in a static vocabulary dictionary. The beauty is that there are scores of snippets of published speech, so you can easily and quickly choose the translation that most closely matches the closes sense of meaning you intend. I have searched quite a bit, and have yet to find a better product for learning, and for keeping my vocabulary growing. It really works well. -Scott Portland, OR..Version: 2.5.3

Love this appSomeone else mentioned this app to me as they were learning English (my native language). It greatly helps me when learning German 👌. 10/10 stars for Linguee.Version: 2.5.2

I love this app so much that I’m writing my first ever app review on itMy French 3 teacher recommend this app to my class since it can give you better definitions as well as examples for single words. I’ve also used it for Russian, and one of my best friends who is half Russian also says it’s pretty good too so take that as you will. I just don’t like how you can’t do full sentences, but then again, that’d be less accurate I’d think. All in all I’d give this a 9.5/10..Version: 2.5.4

Almost perfectLinguee has become essential to me. My Spanish is quite good, but Linguee allows me to look up everyday expressions and gives a range of really useful examples from which I usually end up learning more than just the expression I looked up..Version: 2.5.2

Great ResourceEasy to use, accurate, quick, with numerous actual examples in sentences that contextualise the translations. A must for everyone with an interest in translation..Version: 2.4.1

Useful AppVery handy. Good to see words used in a variety of contexts. I like that you can hear the correct pronunciation of a word.Version: 2.5.2

C’est la meilleuere!Such a good app for learning French. Much better than Google translate. The example sentences and pronunciation button are great features..Version: 2.5.2

A Study HelpFor the past several years I have tried to keep my Portuguese language skills sharp. As I read Portuguese and try to improve my comprehension of vocabulary as well as grammar, I find that Linguee facilitates the process. I would recommend this app to anyone trying who has similar goals for staying current in a language that they do not use on a daily basis..Version: 2.5.3

Real Life ToolI speak fluent German. I learned it in school and studied it as a college student. I use German almost everyday in my work. But even for the best foreign speaker of a language there is sometimes a certain phraseology or wording that you know would be better in a certain situation. Knowing these nuances is what sets apart native speakers from fluent foreign language speakers. This app bridges that gap and makes it possible, especially in writing, to express yourself more clearly, precisely and in a way that a native speaker would..Version: 2.5.2

Amazing resource, but buggy on iOSLinguee (and DeepL) are my daily use apps for translations. The tech and features themselves are really useful. However the app is very buggy on iPhone mini 13 with iOS 15 and 16. Freezes and lags all the time when switching between apps, keeps asking if you want to allow clipboard text to be pasted, often non-responsive. I hope this gets fixed. In any case I would just move to using it through the browser or the macOS app when on my laptop..Version: 2.5.4

LingueeIt has a sure and certain ability to translate from English to other languages and vice versa; it is free as well apparently….Version: 2.5.3

Amazing app to improve vocabulary and understanding. The app is really useful, it help me a lot to improve my vocabulary in English and the understanding of words in a bunch of contexts. The only thing I think that would be developed in the app is to give us the opportunity to create a note where we can save the words we want to improve and maybe would be create flip cards..Version: 2.5.2

Not working with IOS 16I updated my iphone last night with the new ios 16, and ever since this morning, I couldn’t use the search bar to search translations. Please update because this has been one of the most helpful apps to me.Version: 2.5.3

Very useful over and above a dictionaryI use this app frequently to ensure that I am putting words into the right context when translating. So far it has not failed to find an example of what I intend to say, meaning my writing is more colloquial and grammatically OK I can thouroughly recommend it provided you have a grasp of the basic structure and vocabulary of the language in question.Version: 2.5.2

Finally a truly educational translatorFinds phrases as well as words, shows multiple examples of usage so you can both identify synonyms and where different words or phrases are used depending on context. Also quick. I was exhausted by translators that couldn’t distinguish between tenses let alone tell you which of the multiple translations often offered actually corresponds to the sense you mean. This s a gem and amazing resource for improving ones speaking and usage beyond mere literal translation..Version: 2.5.2

So much more than a dictionaryLinguee has been an essential resource in my self-directed language learning journey. It provides quotations from a wide variety of websites, which include the searched word in both target and native languages, enabling us to truly grasp the nuances of various uses of the word in multiple contexts, so essential to acquiring fluency..Version: 2.5.4

An indispensable tool for transpatorsWhat did we do before Linguée? I shudder to think. It makes work much easier, and provides concise, real-world examples of alternate terminologies to cover almost any context. No more hammering square-peg terms into round-hole instances! It helps you find just the right term. A real time-saver, and having this useful app as a dedicated resource on a handheld device helps to eliminate disruptive switching on your computer between word-processor and browser, so you can stay in Focus mode..Version: 2.5.3

Bad Pronunciation - unclear word stressingI’ve been using Linguee for a long time now and I’ve been using the German-English part which is definitely very good and everything. However two things bother me: One of which: I don’t know why but whenever I write something in the searchbox it removes what I wrote and writes me previous search in it again and that’s just too annoying. Secondly, although the pronunciations are good and all, you CAN NOT AT ALL find out the word stressing..Version: 2.5.2

Best dictionary everI couldn’t ask for anything better. Free multi-language dictionary with offline mode and access to external sources such as Wikipedia. A clean layout and super easy to navigate. Keep up the great work!.Version: 2.5.2

Amazing!I can memorize the words through sentences and small texts..Version: 2.5.2

Awesome!I use it for English to German translations. I can enter a word or two and the app provides a number of choices. Additionally, there are English sentences which are translated into German so that I can find the word being used in various circumstances. This is so helpful in finding the correct useage! It’s very handy when reading online. I don’t have to find my dictionary or open another website-just go to the app and check. An additional useful feature is the back arrow. It allows you to revisit the translations of words you recently looked up so that you can reinforce your memory. And yet another feature is pronunciation. You can press the button and the pronunciation will be supplied. It’s a wonderful app! Thank you very much!.Version: 2.5.3

I don’t know why I can’t get the offline dictionary downloadedThis app is fantastic, but there is a problem for me to download the offline dictionary, please let me know how. Since when I click on the download button, the time bar is not working… Please reply to this review. Thanks in advance!.Version: 2.5.3

Crash often, poor privacyThis app used to be good, but after it starts to require my local network permission it starts to crash frequently. I use my iPhone 8 to study German, now it is to a degree that affected the fluency of my study. A fact that might be relevant is that I use 3D Touch to switch between other apps and this app. 1 As a dictionary app, it requires local network access without explanation. 2 It crashes often..Version: 2.5.3

Context mattersI’d been depending on Google Translate, which is quite useful — until it isn’t. Google generally tells you what a translation is, and leaves it to you to reverse translate it to make sure it’s what you meant (and even then, there’s no guarantee). Consider the word still. Maybe you mean “I still want this.” Maybe you mean “This lake is so still at 8am.” Or maybe you make whiskey in a still. In Portuguese, at least, these are different words. When Google translates for you, do you *really* know which one it’s suggesting that you say? The wrong word will mean your reader will have ZERO idea what you mean, like: “I elephant want this.” Linguee tells you the part of speech for each word, gives many examples with the word uses in context, and helps you understand different ways the word can be used. I’ve found it helpful to clarify and to expand my vocabulary. I still use Google Translate often — it’s great for certain things — but when I really need to be sure of something, I use Linguee..Version: 2.5.4

Better than any other onesJe l’aime beaucoup. Merci..Version: 2.5.2

DkGreat app. Very useful.Version: 2.2.3

Very functionalIt's very good app. Help me to improve my English..Version: 2.2.3

Searching…. C’est le françaisEasy to type in a word or partial phrase in either language and voilà, a plethora of possibilities. Then simply peruse choices that make sense to your situation.Version: 2.5.3

The bestEs una aplicación indispensable a la hora de mejorar tu aprendizaje de un idioma. Simplemente genial..Version: 2.5.4

Practical and helpfulI use it for German-English, and find its translations to be reliable, the examples very helpful in understanding context and usage. But my favorite feature is that it asks you later (on the lock screen) if you remember words you’ve recently looked up. Spaced repetition like this is well understood to improve recall. It’s great to see that the app developers understand that when I look up a word, I don’t just want to see the translation. I want to *learn* it. Love the app!.Version: 2.5.2

User friendly AppAbsolutely love this App and use it every single day. A very useful app that recognises when one makes a spelling mistake searching for a word and very quickly prompts the suggestions. I find the printed texts and sentences very useful as I can check if I used the cases right. I would recommend it to all people that learn German..Version: 2.5.3

Excellent AppI use Linguee all the time for studying German and French. I’ve downloaded the German and French dictionaries in order to have access even when I don’t have internet access. The user interface is very intuitive. One of the most useful features is the “history” feature. I can easily go back and see all the words I have searched, which is very helpful for review..Version: 2.5.2

Excellent, but lost quick “share with” feature in iOS 13?Excellent app, particularly for the contextual sentences and list of prominent collocates (the latter of which seems only to be found in Linguee!). It does seem that the ability to look something up directly from another app (say Safari for example) no longer functions with the new iOS 13 update. I really miss that feature, as none of the other translation/dictionary apps quite match what I was getting from Linguee (Reverso is close, and I use it every day in other scenarios, but I prefer Linguee for this particular use case)..Version: 2.5.2

Brilliant!Quite simply, Linguee has become my ‘go to’ reference supporting my French studies at Alliance Français. I love the multiple examples -in context - for each word or phrase that I am researching. It’s so good & so interesting that I have to stop myself browsing!.Version: 2.5.3

Linguee is genuinely fantasticThis is the first time I’ve ever taken the time to write a review for an app. Linguee goes above and beyond what you might expect of a dictionary app, and it’s completely free. So far I’ve found that it’s also ad free! It has pronunciations for words, it’s user experience/user interface is phenomenal. Linguee is a shining example of the sort of quality, free products we’re privy to in this technological age..Version: 2.5.2

Many features + offlineThe best language app! with text examples, pronouncing, offline available etc. all the features I needed and for free, thank you!.Version: 2.5.3

Best foreign language everI've been through several dictionary apps but Linguee is the best of them. Like other dictionaries, it shows lots of alternative meanings and their examples; besides, there are examples for rare words even when they dont appear their meaning ('cause the word is too long), so that I can understand. The word appears on the app right after being copied from the text is another plus, how convenient! Just on the way to conquer another language but it feels like I'm such a lucky beginner with Linguee-fellow alongside.Version: 2.5.2

Pretty goodSo far no problem, which is better than most I’ve tried..Version: 2.5.3

Great, the best I have come acrossExtremely useful for learning and user friendly, especially the ability to enter phrases and have a number of contexts provided in translation - many cuts above anything else that I have come across..Version: 2.5.2

Great for translators and language learnersThis app is a wonderful recourse for interpreters and translators, as we are continually expanding our professional vocabulary. Along with a very comprehensive dictionary, Linguee contains a database of actual translations of different terms and phrases so you can see in context which works best for whatever you’re working on. The ability to download the dictionaries also facilitates being able to use them at moments notice. I use it every day and if you work in the language industry or are studying a foreign language, you should too!.Version: 2.5.2

Incredibly usefulI really enjoy this app for quick and current translations of English to French. I have used it daily for years!.Version: 2.5.3

EXCELLENT FOR STUDENTS 👍👍👍I am currently studying Spanish and Linguee is has helped me out a lot. It is very helpful and gives you the exact translation from both languages. It is MORE trustworthy than google translate as it shows the word or phrase you are looking for in real life (evidence:news papers, etc).Version: 2.5.2

Linguee is a great dictionaryI typically use more than one source when I am studying. Typical dictionaries give you different definitions and some examples but infrequently do they give you context. Linguee gives you that context in a variety of actual examples drawn from actual texts. Other dictionaries can “tell” you what a word means but rarely can they give you the “feel” of the word and it’s proper use. Definitely I recommend Linguee!!!.Version: 2.5.2

Really very goodThis app has the usual headword definitions that you expect of any dictionary. It has, in fact, a particularly wide range. The unusual and strong feature is that it also finds the word in lots of online translations and presents both versions side by side so that you can see the word in context and take a view about usage. Obviously these online ussages are not guaranteed to be idiomatic or correct but they are at least presented so that the experienced user can evaluate them. The beginner can stick to the conventional dictionary function. The advanced user will find it very helpful to be able to examine words and phrases in context..Version: 2.5.2

Practical usage examplesI’m really pleased with the wide variety of examples provided by Linguee for any given word or phrase. Reading through the examples rarely fails to turn up one that suits the required context. It is a very practical app for anyone with an interest in language, be it for personal or business use..Version: 2.5.4

Easy and functional appI am English living in Germany and the linguee app is an absolute dream. As well as looking up nouns, adjective, verbs, past participles and various conjugations, the app also provides translations for commonly used phrases. It also searches real texts on the internet in order to show the user usages of their searched words and phrases. Can’t recommend this app enough!.Version: 2.5.1
