Garmin Pilot for Negative User Reviews

Poor logbook reports and morePlease, improve your logbook reports, it’s almost impossible to print the legit logbook for an interview. Thanx for 2018 iPad Pro Screen support! Needs to be added: *TEC routes in flight planning **Apple watch support ***Access NOTAMS faster, maybe thru radial menu ****Ability to bookmark relevant pages in chart supplement *****Ability to print the legit logbook for checkride or interview ******KHHR is still showing awkward airspace on VFR map (very dangerous for pilots not familiar with LAX!!) that penetrates the LAX bravo! *******Missing a lot of stadium TFRs (Stub Hub Stadium), I can find them even thru SkyVector Please improve.Version: 9.6.3

Canadian PlatesPlates are not up to date as valid period has expired even though they saw this is how they do it. No VNC or WAC charts for Canada This is not a Flight Bag as no current charts and expired plates. Not worth the price.Version: 7.0.1

When it works it’s greatI love this app but the pre-release testing is inadequate. Every few updates it crashes nonstop and I have to remove the app from my iPhone or iPad and reinstall along with downloading all the data. I’ve never had this issue with FF. This is a serious problem with something I’m spending real money on!.Version: 9.1.3

Some function are not working properlyIPhone 7 Some functions are not working properly. Please fix Profile view. After loading altitudes constraint on flight plan nothing changes on profile view..Version: 10.3.4

Excellent tool but support lackingGarmin Pilot has progressively improved during its development. It was, however, the ability to send flight plans almost instantaneously from an iPad to a Garmin GTN 750 equipped with a FlightStream Bluetooth SD card that pulled me away from my previous navigation app and this remains a unique and enormously valuable feature. Not so good is what appears to be a total lack of opportunity to interact with Garmin”s product support. The current problem with checklists highlighted this: first an upgrade deleted them all, then the next upgrade brought them back, now they are gone again and any new ones created and saved vaporise when the checklist pane is exited— very frustrating, especially as there appears to be no way of contacting Garmin to report these issues..Version: 9.1.1

Used it for 4 years nowI’ve been using this FB for 4 years and like it a lot, only issue I have that has not been addressed in any of the updates is how terrible the document download is, every new version for some reason there will always be one file (the tpp for me on version 10) that will forever be stuck loading and there is no way for me to know if it’s downloading it at all..Version: 10.0.5

UselessI tried to set up the aircraft profile. After putting a load of data in, it gives the options Import from aircraft Clone aircraft Delete aircraft What? What is that supposed to mean? Whatever I do, anything I have already input is wiped out. I give up on it. Maybe I’m stupid, but shouldn’t it cater for stupid people? Without putting in an aircraft profile you cannot do anything else. Hence- useless. And how do you get help from Garmin? You have to put in a serial number. Does an App have a serial number?.Version: 10.0.0

Poor and sluggish Rendering PerformanceUsing high end iPad Mini 4. one generation before the current. Reset to manufacture settings to remove fragmentation to make it fast again. Yet rendering performance of Garmin Pilot is poor. Maps take sometimes 5 seconds or longer to render, sometimes track of plane jumps a mile due to lag. Touch sometimes takes many seconds before reacting. It also crashed, albeit ForeFlight crashes as well. Flight planning not as intuitive as ForeFlight. Default VFR map color scheme is way too over saturated. Unless one also invests in the latest iPad Mini 4, performance is unacceptable..Version: 10.2.2

Needs MapsLove the interface as it makes it a very user friendly app. However, until maps are available for Australia, I think pilots will spend money on other alternatives that do provide up to date charts. Will look at purchasing when charts are available for Australia..Version: 6.2.3

Still poor European cover or functionality compared to USA.Can’t even get the basics right like UK airfield frequencies despite me messaging support for 3 months..Version: 9.7.1

Really poor UIIt’s a mystery to me why Garmin have produced such a weak app. I have an Aera 660 which it is supposed to connect to but you can’t even transfer waypoints. There’s no vertical navigation view and the maps are just impossible to make head or tail of whilst flying..Version: 9.3.1

Lacking so many featuresPretty useless compared to ForeFlight, even in Europe. Use it for database concierge and that’s it..Version: 10.2.8

Too dim to see in cockpitI have a iphone 13 pro and shortly after take off in my rv-9, which has a bright cockpit, the screen will dim so much that the app unusable. I've tried changing or adjusting every possible setting to no avail. I don't know if Garmin is at fault or apple but this combo simply does not work in bright environments..Version: 10.7.4

Easy to useThe split screen feature with various options saves a lot of page switching time. (5th gen 9.7inch iPad). The problems I have with the app so far: 1. The CFS is not directly available in a split screen widget. It would be great if CFS pages are provided as a Widget, or as part of the Airport Info widget. 2. The "Clouds" overlay cannot be turned off after it is turned on. 3. VNC edges are not aligned perfectly. For example, Bella Coola airport (CYBD) is completely invisible..Version: 9.0.2

Unresponsive teamI’ve had a GP subscription since it first came out. I pair it to a flight stream for interaction with my avionics. For several years I’ve requested a feature with the team via email and in person at Oshkosh regarding the loading of waypoints. If an approach is loaded the GP App stops navigating at the first fix. I also have FF and it seamlessly loads all the fixes through the flight stream. If a non Garmin app can do this why can’t Garmin? Also the WX imagining section no longer offers things like winds aloft. It started off strong years ago but seems to be slipping by the wayside. For the first time I’m considering not renewing.Version: 9.7.4

Too expensiveIt's a real shame there is not a Europe subscription priced the same as the US version..Version: 8.1

It’s ok, but not as good as othersI use Garmin in my plane and would like to continue to use Pilot for consistency, but somethings are just irritating. Weather in Garmin pilot is not as good as the GPS or other equipment. Just cumbersome to navigate options. Airport information is not clearly shown and you have to go through tabs to get basic info. They have a navigation and planning mode that’s very irritating. More things to click around when you are flying. Overall it’s not a bad product, but the flow and overall feel of the use is not even close to other options in the market. And by the way, many of this issues are recently added options that has regressed the development of the product..Version: 10.2.2

Good, But Not GreatGarmin Pilot is great for maps and charts, integrates well with my Garmin avionics, and I overall enjoy the app. I do have a few beefs though. 1) I can’t file VFR flight plans in Canada 2) Time fields in the log book are wrong. If I were Garmin, I’d be embarrassed about this. They don’t seem to know the difference between air time, and flight time. Also, the total time field doesn’t automatically calculate after entering Time Out and Time In unless you know the secret trick. 3) Aircraft setup for flight planning aren’t associated with aircraft for the log book. 4)PDF files like CFS pages used to open in an external app like Adobe for reading. They now open within GP, which doesn’t do as good of a job. I find there’s too much overhead around the documents on small screens, which hinders readability..Version: 11.2.3

So disappointingI bought a plane with perspective + and garmin pilot was designed to work seamlessly with updates and flight plan exchange. When the program doesn’t crash it can exchange flight plans with the panel but it’s a few swipes and clicks more than ForeFlight. The updating of databases... SSSSUUUUUKKKKSS. after you set it up which took me 4 hours... I had to create multiple accounts with 3rd parties then activate them to work properly. Then pair Bluetooth and WiFi. Then download lots of stuff then enable. I’ve had to do this several times as the app is glitchy. The database concierge is very confusing and has worked only a few times. I don’t even try anymore. I just use the cards. I’ve had the app crash on me many times. Brand new iPad. Brand new download. Tried it on multiple iPads. Crash. Crash. Crash. Honestly... it’s horrible. Sorry. I love garmin aviation. But the app, despite some clever interfaces and ideas, is totally unreliable, clumsy and confusing..Version: 10.1.2

CFI Tools need a huge improvement.I find Garmin pilot superior to Foreflight, however the CFI tools are appalling in comparison. They do not have all the endorsements pre loaded. The character count for adding notes on log book entries is quite small. Although the checkbox items for reaching goals associated with a certificate in foreflight are a little gimmicky. They are helpful. Please make the app more CFI to student friendly..Version: 11.3.2

Need Support for Garmin GPSMAP66iLove to use the Garmin Pilot app and was really looking forward to paring my Garmin GPSMAP66i in reach with it like the Explorer+. Unfortunately looks like it hasn’t been added to the apps support! Really was hoping to use the GPS capability with the Garmin Pilot app to act as an external GPS receiver. Can’t for the life of me understand though why the GPSMAP66i which is basically a better more updated version of the Explorer+ doesn’t have the same support or connectivity... Please Garmin add the software support for the GPSMAP66i!.Version: 10.2.2

Doesn’t work on older iPadsI have had this app for a few years now and it worked fine until apple went to iso10 now the app won’t work on anything less that a 10 running machine. Called them up and they blame my “old” equipment The techs are really worthless and know nothing about bug fixes so needless to say you pay them $75 for a worthless app. Very disappointed that a company this big can’t get their s..t. Together.Version: 9.3.3

Craft page in scratch pad not working.Ever since the update, anytime I try to write on the CRAFT page in scratch pad it is as if the one lags and it doesn’t take any of my inputs. It only starts once you lift the pen. Very inconvenient.Version: 10.5.4

Missing ability to import waypointsPlease add ability to import GPX and/or CSV waypoint files..Version: 7.5.0

Can not loginApp login doesn’t work... what a shame.Version: 9.5.2

Not great for VFR planningI have used runwayHD and SkyDemon and for VFR flying and planning they are far superior, versatile and easy to use than the Garmin App. The simple process of importing and exporting a route between any other app (which is possible on all other apps) is not possible with the Garmin Pilot App. From a user experience point of view the interface is poor. I am disappointed as I have recently installed Garmin equipment in my helicopter and was hoping for an easier integration. They have a closed system approach. One can only hope for improvements ....Version: 9.4.3

MehGood, I guess for fixed wing. Unacceptable for VFR rotary wing..Version: 8.2.1

UnstableLots of great functionality for a GA pilot, but Crashes or locks up frequently, and plagued with bugs. For the annual subscription costs I am paying I expect a far better quality app..Version: 8.7.1

Great app but missing a few key featuresThe app is absolutely great much better now for VFR UK pilots with their new partnership with NATS and access to NATS UK VFR charts but there’s one key feature that is missing and that is the ability to view frequencies that you need/may need along your route. I actually can’t believe they don’t have this as it’s so simple to implement and it’s definitely a needed feature for any pilot! A few more things I would like to see is route navigation warnings say if you have planned your route over a TFR or Danger area it should alert you so you can amend this, I would like to have the ability to look further in depth at TFR’s, restricted airspace and Danger areas as some may only apply to helicopters/microlights. I would like TFR’s, Danger areas and restricted airspace to be in a different colour rather than just blue so you can instantly know to avoid them. The app should display both aerodrome code and Name example- EGGD, Bristol. The app should also show you your distance from the next VRP along with you compass heading, example- currently ‘3nm S of E Nailsea VRP’. I would also like the ability to create more scratch pad pages. There also should be a cloud service where you can store your flight plans and there should be a better system for importing/sharing a flight plan rather than just by text or email. You should also be allowed to import your own plates/notes into the app. I hope Garmin takes some of these comments on board ESPECIALLY THE FREQUENCIES COMMENT, this app is so close to being my go to but right now skydemon is just better because it displays the frequencies straight away and it has better location information and flight plan sharing and storage. However if you’re an IFR GA pilot in the U.K. I believe this is your best option right now nothing comes close to this as an IFR pilot assistance application for Europe it would cost you £240 for all Europe IFR charts and the subscription compare that to foreflight which would be $300 for the subscription then another $782 for all of Europe’s IFR charts with Jeppesen, this is clearly the better option..Version: 9.0.4

Great app, missing an important featureI have been a Garmin Pilot user and subscriber since its first release, and I love its functionality and user interface. However, I find it difficult to understand why Garmin is not including the “vertical navigation” capability that is present on my 1998 Garmin GPS III Pilot, that I am still using to determine the top of descent and rate of descent (very appreciated by my passengers who get a smooth and consistent rate of descent as we approach our destination). Come on Garmin, this is a very important feature that would cost next to nothing to implement! The added features on v. 11 are in my opinion just fluff and eye candy, adding almost no values at least to U.S. customers..Version: 11.0.1

Newest Update makes it unsafe to useThe newest update has rendered this app useless at best, dangerous if you do not carry backup paper charts. There is no longer airport information, it will not open when selected and you cannot even get to it in the radial menu. I cannot load any airport information even if I am using WiFi. Garmin really needs to rest their updates before sending them out, fortunately I caught the issue before I got in the air. For a product that has worked well I am thoroughly disappointed, and will not renew my subscription should these issues not be addressed..Version: 9.7

New version not as user friendlyWith the latest updates, flight planning is difficult. It’s not nearly as user friendly as it used to be. The familiar user environment to the flight deck products and 760 was what kept me using it. Now I find it difficult to navigate and to create a flight plan and manage it. It feels very buggy..Version: 10.2.2

Freezes occasionally while trying to view weather and then won’t openA little concerning that an aviation app freezes/crashes so frequently. Called support and they told me to use the Restart Option (in main iPad settings) “Switch to Map Page” as a workaround to get it out of the freeze. This worked, but after doing so, the map settings I selected were reset to default and turns out the app “backup” that it does doesn’t include these settings (so restoring the backup is worthless) so I have to redo these every time I have to reboot the app with these settings..Version: 9.6.2

Useless if you’re CanadianCan’t file a VFR flight plan in Canada. I called Garmin support and they confirmed these are the rules. Canceling my subscription now. What is the point of this? We fly VFR in Canada all the time… bizarre. Get it together Garmin..Version: 10.6.4

CrashesI’m stuck with an older version because I got an older iPad I can’t update. Garmin pilot keeps on crashing and I can’t do anything with it..Version: 11.2.3

If it would not go blank, it would be great.Has great features but goes blank often, usually at the most inopportune time. A friend has foreflight and it never goes blank. I have the latest iOS on an iPad mini 6th gen and have deleted and reloaded the app several times and it still crashes. I am using on trial subscription that runs out in a few weeks. If the problem is still occurring I will opt for foreflight..Version: 10.6.5

Lousy, Expensive & UnreliableThis product is out classed by so many others. It’s fine on the ground but in the air it’s worthless..Version: 9.5.1

Nice app but not great for VFRMostly I really like it. Would be nice if the app could cater for different altitudes for the programmed legs of the flight. VFR pilots often need to change altitude to avoid controlled airspace and currently this app only lets the user set one altitude for the entire flight. I have to have SkyDemon installed as well just to cater for this issue as SkyDemon incorporates this feature. I also find that Garmin Pilot is missing a lot of the smaller airfields in South Africa compared to others. Would be nice if we could add them either manually or submit a request..Version: 10.0.1
