✓ Amazing reading app!This app gives book lovers a great way to borrow and read their fave books for free without hassle, as long as your library of choice carries the e-version. I really like the dark theme that’s easy on the eyes, plus the fact that I not only get 21 days to finish a book, but I can always renew it within three days to expiry. This app was built well and has always worked very seamlessly, considering I’ve been using it for almost five years now. Great job to the developers!!.Version: 3.8.1
✓ Overdrive appGreat!!!!! I have been using this for a few years now and after saying I would ‘never’ want to read a book that wasn’t on paper, I have had to do a red faced about turn I am a Carer and have just LOVED being able to pick up and return my books from and to the library in the middle of the night, On public holidays, whatever ... just fabulous. I am a complete dimbo when it comes to using anything new or even slightly techy and so I’m also pleased that it is so easy to use! Borrowing, searching, waiting for borrowed books to be returned, I was able to ‘guess’ my way through it and still use it all the time .... best app for readers who churn through their books.Version: 3.8.6

✓ Can’t read on more than one deviceVery glad to have access to my library books without having to physically carry it around. App has also improved since I first used it. However, I am unable to access the same book from ‘My Bookshelf’ on more than one device. I use my phone on the go but enjoy reading from my iPad at home. ✓ More titles neededOverdrive is a beautiful app. There are a decent amount of books but many of the highly rated ones aren’t available. Using Overdrive with a Brisbane City Council library card (or other library card)is very easy to use and the best part is that once you download a book, it is available offline. You can download many books at a time and is perfect to read if you are going somewhere remote or without internet. My only criticism would be more of the highly rated books..Version: 3.7.7

✓ Love itI love this app. It lets me access ebooks and audio books with ease and links automatically between my phone and iPad, so I never lose my place. Borrowing and downloading files was not intuitive to start with, but is easy once I learned how (select the item on Hold, go to Loans, download, go to Files and download all, then play). ✓ Best App I’ve DownloadedAs a bibliophile I have now saved myself hundreds of dollars by using the Overdrive App. It’s very easy to use, has a great range of e-books and audiobooks available, the holds system is perfect as I can have up to nine books on hold while I read/listen to the ones I have. ✓ Good, Needs Usability UpgradeOverall, the app seems to perform well. I have had a few delays with audiobook downloads, but nothing major. All of my (numerous) eBook downloads have worked without issue. However, this app is in desperate need of a usability study. It is not very intuitive, and does not focus on the key areas I think most users look for. Also, the bookshelf/loans/files process is clumsy and confusing. I'd much prefer that all items appear in one place, and that actions could be taken from a main menu by drilling into the checked-out item. Overall though, it's a great app. I have high hopes for its future. For selection, there are quite a few interesting titles. However, I would like to see a greater selection of less current works. Perhaps it's only me, but I'd love to be able to pull up a comfy old book from the past. ✓ Overdrive. UPDATEI figured out my problem. Obviously the update in the program changed the way you change the size of the font. I finally figured out how to change the size (different than before)and am very happy again. Love reading on my iPad and love this app. Thank you for contacting me. I have used this app for a long time and loved it. I was reading a book last night. When I signed on today to continue reading. Amazingly I found the print size so big it barely fit 1-2 words on a line. I checked all my settings, nothing changed. I cleaned my cache, and shut down iPad and restarted. It was still huge print. I returned the book I was reading and borrowed another one, but the same thing thing happened. Then I looked at the app and it had been updated 20 hours ago. Is this an improvement in the update. ✓ Best extension of your library...This is a free app to read books for free from your local library. As such, it’s a 5*. One can’t complain about the app if your local library doesn’t have a copy of the book you want, you have to wait for someone to finish reading their copy or get frustrated at the length of time you can borrow your book for... This is your library’s issue. For me, this app is a godsend and I can find most of what I want and stuff them into my tablet and read them at my leisure without having to stroll into town to check out a dead tree version. I love overdrive for the fact that if I want a book that is out in person I can just pop on my iPad and issue the book online, Especially if I really want to read a book and come back to late and find someone else came before me and issued it, and again pop on my iPad and issue it. I read fast and in large quantities, so occasionally I will run into the sad predicament of running out of things to read 😏. Overdrive helpfully divides books into categories like classics, graphic novels and comics, etc, so I can putter around until I find something that looks good. One suggestion... if you have a book checked out, and someone else puts a hold on it, it would be nice if the app gave you a little prompt to return the book. Two weeks is actually a long time to whoever is waiting on the book, and it’s easy to temporarily forget that you still have a book checked out. Other than that, it’s perfect for reading, listening to audiobooks, and (if the physical library has them) watching videos of picture books (for young children) or movies!.Version: 3.8.1

✓ Excellent app!Not a day goes by where I don’t use this app. I can have multiple books checked out whether audio or just to read on my own. The audiobooks are great for long car rides, cleaning house or at the beach. I use my wireless earbuds so my iPad is safely tucked away in a bag and I don’t have to worry about getting sand in it or carrying it around while I’m doing stuff around the house. It’s also great for those nights when I’m trying to sleep and my mind just won’t shut off. I can turn on an audiobook set the timer for 15 minutes and rewind the next day to hear what I missed. The bookmark is great. I can pick up on my second iPad where I left off on my first. The history and wish lists are great as well. Sometimes I see something that I want to read and then I completely forget about it. ✓ UPDATE: Love the books hate the appI listen to these books while I'm at work and I really love them and their selections but the app itself closes right in the middle of a book and I have to delete the entire app and redownload it and then redownload all of my books because it saves nothing! I use overdrive on my iPad when I read to my daughter every night and I use it on my phone at work. ✓ Brilliant, a lifesaver for the Library SystemThis application has brought me countless hours of entertainment and education. I can select, with ease, from several cooperating local libraries. And I am a “Library Felon” no more, because books are returned automatically, with no overdue fees. Surely this service will bring more people back to the public library system, which deserves continued support. The audiobook options are my favorite feature. What a treat to be read to while driving to work! Please consider adding the ability to look these up by narrator, because some readers (Barbara Rosenblatt, Jim Dale, Stephen Fry, the late Patrick Tull) are very gifted, while others may be drone-y, or absurdly over-expressive. It would be nice to easily avoid those. I agree that the “1 day remaining” notification is misleading, but exact expiration time can be accessed by “Loans”, under the books icon. ✓ Solves my tinnitus problem!I have constant ringing in my ears (tinnitus) that nearly drives me crazy when everything is perfectly quiet, making it very hard to go to sleep. But, problem solved by letting Overdrive read me a book (if there is some sound for me to hear, I don’t notice the tinnitus). Before I lay down, I set the sleep timer for 15 minutes, then I relax while I listen to the story and it turns itself off after I am asleep. The best part is, you can use the bookmark feature to save your place periodically, then you can easily find your place by going to your bookmark and using the fast forward and 15 second advance (or 15 second back up) buttons. I use this app EVERY night. Caution: save thrillers and page turners to listen to on long car rides! For bedtime, I listen to funny, stress free stories like Janet Evanovich books- they are funny and entertaining and don’t keep me awake. Last tip, for best results to induce sleep, I listen to the my favorite books over and over. That way, I don’t have to worry about ‘missing something’. You can have up to five books at a time, so I also listen to Overdrive while I am cleaning house, gardening (great time to listen to “how-to” books) or driving (it plays through my cars speakers). Best of all, you can temporarily download the books to your phone so you can listen to it even if you don’t have wi-fi available. Love this app!!!.Version: 3.7.3
✓ Fantastic functionality, ease of use less soThe good (which is very very good): you can enjoy the benefits of your library tax dollars from anywhere. I especially enjoy listening to audiobooks on my iPhone while I clean...and I’m cleaning lots more as a result. (Good excuse to spring for those AirPods or other wireless earphones, BTW. You can listen surprisingly far from your phone.) The bad (annoying): I have taught people how to use computers/devices and software for over 20 years, but still it always takes me several tries to figure out how to do things with this app. It needs to be more intuitive. I’d also appreciate being able to save my (very long) library card # to the app, and then log in with my fingerprint. ✓ Great app and getting better all the time!I’m very happy with the Overdrive app. I’ve had it for a couple of years now. I love the easy access to library audio books and once I got familiar with the app, it was no issue to navigate. That being said, navigating it did take some getting used to. It’s as if there’s no main page, just various sections all connected to one another, which works, it’s just not what I experience in most apps and is therefore unfamiliar. Also, Overdrive encouraged users to download Libby so I did and although I really like that Libby allows users to include personal notes with the Bookmarks, I still very much prefer Overdrive over Libby. I’m very much hoping Overdrive will add a note option to the Bookmarks section. I hope Overdrive also adds a notes section to Holds so I can have a reference for the books I put on hold. I have a long list of holds and sometimes forget who recommended the book or where I found it and ultimately why I put it on hold to begin with. Also, I only use Overdrive for audiobooks, so it would be quite a time saver if Overdrive provided the user with filters that could be set permanently so non-audiobooks are not recommended or popping up in my searches. That being said, Overdrive’s response to feedback and glitches is excellent. I’m very appreciative of Overdrive’s continuous attention to app updates and corrections. The interface is easy to use and never glitchy or buggy- you can listen to audiobooks while using other apps and pause it like any other audio file. This app is an awesome way to read and listen to more books for free through your local public library. I’ve been making a conscious effort to read more and this app makes it easy. When I’m running errands or doing chores I listen to an audiobook, and instead of wasting time on social media, I try to read an ebook on here instead. It has been so much better for my mental health and it feels like a better use of my time. They are downloaded onto your phone so you can consume them anytime anywhere. I’m seriously so grateful it exists and cannot recommend it enough to everyone. If you’re a fan of books this app is for you! ✓ Please fixI really love using my overdrive app. My favorite part is the opening suggestions page. This can lead me to trying a lot of different books I might not have read before. That said, the ad for their new Libby ad takes up A LOT of real estate on that page that would be better suited to more suggestions. Also, I don’t know if this is an algorithm problem, but it is supposed to give different suggestions at the bottom of the page when you look at a book. I love this feature, but more often than not I get the same selection of books almost every time anymore. If I haven’t chosen to read those books more than six months ago, can we please stop suggesting them even though they are in the same genre as what I’m looking at? ✓ Library books without the ick factorI love that I can borrow books in the middle of the night, and they are “clean” without any funny food stains or dog ears. Granted, it is only as good as your library, and mine has a few holes in its collection. ie missing books in a series. But that is a problem with the library, not the app. I have had a couple of glitches when a book wouldn’t download properly, but that is one in probably a hundred. ✓ Fantastic!Really love this app though I found it a little complex at first. There is a huge range of books, both ebooks and audiobooks, and I keep two on the go simultaneously. The audiobook keeps me entertained while walking, driving, cleaning and falling asleep (love the timer option which is broken in to increments). My only criticism is that some of the books I’d like to read are not available on the app so I have to resort to my kindle but that has not happened very often. Been reading some other reviews and they expect a bit much - it is an online LIBRARY at the end of the day. And yes, you cannot keep the books forever, the maximum is for 21 days. But again - hey, it’s the same in real life! The only thing that I would complain about is that if the book that I’m looking for isn’t there for some reason I’m unable to request it, despite the fact that it’s mentioned on the website that this is a feature that you can use. They are not only fun entertainment, but also a good way to entertain myself while I am doing another job, like writing or carding for my pets. I know there are downloadable books too, but I use the audio books. I like how the app lets you keep a book for 27 days. You do not have to worry about returning your book late either, it just says EXPIRED under the book. I also like how it tells how many days left you have for each title, and if I remember right, when it says 3 days left, the letters and number turns red to warn you that you will have to return the book soon. For the audio books it will remember where you were when you paused it and left the app, unlike audio cds. This app is very enjoyable, but one I would like to have changed it this: some books that they have, they do not have in audio book. Over all, great app! But the most important thing to remember is when on the ‘search’ page get used to where ‘my account’ is and then ‘loans’ ‘holds’ etc are. Once you remember that it’s really good using the main app for listening as you can have a timer and bookmark your place To the app makers I wish you had 0.85 speed instead of 0.5 option as that’s too slow. i.e. if trying to get to sleep with an audiobook it be nice to be able to slow some narrators voices down a fraction. This app takes a little setup: you have to have a library card, and have it handy to log into your local library website. After that, it's quick and easy to search for books, check them out, and download them. You can read ePub versions of ebooks within the app or get Kindle versions if your library has them. Audiobooks are fabulous too: I play them in the car from my phone with a Bluetooth speaker. ✓ Makes reading much more convenientLibraries are truly wonderful and amazing places, and yet they have their limitations (not open 24/7), don't have every book, lots of books can be heavy, etc.). We still go to our library (conveniently right across the street), but the overwhelming majority of my book reading is now on the Overdrive app. I usually have five or six books checked out, five or six books on hold, and hundreds on the wish list (to remind myself of what I want to read next). We listen to audio books as a family on road trips using Overdrive, usually have at least one book checked out that I'm reading with each of my kids, and I've finally read lots of literature (fiction and non-fiction) that I've been meaning to read for decades. My only frustrations are with what my library has available and the app has a "Recommend" feature that allows readers to suggest the library acquire the rights to books it doesn't currently have. ✓ OverdriveI have never reviewed an app. Ever. This app deserves more than 5 stars. In my opinion, this is one of the most innovative programs I have had the good fortune to come across. The ease of checkout is astounding as is the number of available printed books and audiobooks. Since I often travel the East Coast by car, pre-OD, I had to be sure I got to my local library to check out enough audiobooks to get me there and back. If I failed to get there in time I might not have an audiobook to listen to on a trip. Then I would have to borrow audiobooks from a local restaurant and I would inevitably be late in returning them and incur a large late fee. With OverDrive, I never have to remember to return the books (since they just expire into the Ethernet)! If I don’t like a title, I can just delete it and download another! No more fines! No last minute scrambling to check out books! No more being upset that I have to listen to the entire book just because I don’t like the others I brought. I did have a bit of an issue in the beginning, but I persisted and now can easily navigate the site. Hmmm... I was just wondering... does this app check out books and scholarly journals from the Library of Congress? Don’t all US residents have THAT library card? Again, thank you. ✓ Great-the best library appEasy to log onto several libraries at once and shows all borrowed ebooks and audiobooks on one bookshelf. Audiobooks have a timer to turn off automatically and the reading speed can be slowed or speeded up, bookmarks work well on audio and ebooks. Works well offline as well as online. I’ve used this for years and it still works well on my old iPhone 4s as well as a new iPad and iPhone. The only drawback is “Libby” but maybe I just have an aversion to that ghastly logo-I’m sticking with Overdrive. I really like the fact that you can read the same book on different devices and it syncs to the place you left off reading on the other device. However in the last few months, when you open the app, it doesn’t open to the exact spot where you quit reading. Generally it goes back to the beginning of the chapter, then if you “turn the page” it will go to the place you actually quit reading. But sometimes it’s just a page or two “off.” and, if you are switching to a different device, and “turn the page” before the option to sync appears, it’s game over. You are forced to find your spot manually. Prior to the last few months, it worked perfectly, every time, opening to the exact spot where you left off reading, and no issues when changing devices. ✓ Good appI've been listening to audiobooks for several years and use OD almost exclusively now. Easy to navigate and I like the direct link to my library. With continual updates OD keeps up with changes in operating systems with mostly seamless service. Cons: the app freezes now and then when downloading books or when returning them The other issue ioccurs when downloading an audiobook during checkout from the library. Before all parts of the book are downloaded quickly. Now, I have to go into files on the app and download again. Often there are errors with one or more parts, which means downloading the part(s) once again. I have had to go to the library after the process explained above and download the book again because a segment of one part did not download completely. I have an iPhone 12 mini now, so I’m hoping these issues will go away. I am grateful for the convenience of electronic connectivity to my library and the ability to listen to high quality books. You need to stop pushing racial books on everyone as those are the ones that pop up now. This app needs more maintenance on the preview end for sure. The Chinese books about respiratory viruses that started coming up in early March are annoying, at least make them available in English. There are no English books about the same subject? ✓ A little clunky but delivers the goodsWhen I first downloaded this app, I really struggled with it. I could t get the hang of downloading my books and ended up reading many in my browser - not a good option for reading absolutely anywhere! Not sure if it’s the subsequent updates or my increasing familiarity with the app, but it’s working well now. I love that I can recommend books, and they do tend to turn up if they are (for example) the last two books in a series:-) My biggest criticism is that books don’t simply download to your device... first you borrow, then you add them to your bookshelf to read. ✓ Overall favorite and most used appMy wife and I bought a few audiobooks 10 years ago at a thrift store. These were CDs that we would listen to while driving to the beach on the weekends. We then found you could checkout CD audiobooks from the library and did that for a while. Someone told us about Overdrive and we haven’t looked back since - except the rear view mirror. She has her authors and I have mine and we share some. I usually go through at least one book a week and this has opened up many authors, books and series that I had never experienced before. Of all the apps on my phone and iPad, this gets used more than any others. If you have a library card (some will let you get a card online), this will open a world of adventure for you and it’s free. You can finally listen and appreciate some of those high school and college books you were supposed to read but never quite got around to. I was never a big reader all of my life, but in retirement, With more time available, I listen to it in the car & in my house, especially late at night. That means that there are only a limited amount of copies and if all of them are taken then you have to wait for it to be available and sometimes there is a waitlist. And they don't have all the books your looking for because your library doesn't have it. But overall, I like it better than other book apps. ✓ Great library app with only occasional tech issues.I was originally referred this app by my mom and I love it. I’m in a military family so we are always on the move. This app makes it so easy for me use my home state library system to check out books when ever I want without even having to leave the house. One thing I ABSOLUTELY love is that if you can’t find the book you want it will ask you if want to recommend purchase of said book. I have done this once or twice and the book I wanted was purchased within a couple days and made available to me immediately! The only thing I can complain about it, is I can’t figure out how to read the same books across different devices and I experienced technical issues that completely prevented me from checking out and reading any books. That happened only once and after a while, I uninstalled the app and reinstalled then the issue was resolved. I only rated the app at 4 stars because of the technical issues. If it wasn’t for that I would rate it 5 stars in a heartbeat!.Version: 3.7.3

I like that you can change the font type & size, change the background colour and easily access bookmarks & contents. The latest update has changed the way brightness is adjusted and I don't like it (please change it back!), even on the lowest light level it's too bright to read at night in the dark. ✓ Awesome By Not Even Needing To Read More Than One Book(I Hope)I was looking in my backpack 🎒 for my books 📚 to read. Then I found out that they weren’t in my backpack. There were in school! (This happens a lot so I don’t why I was surprised) I was so frustrated and confused because I thought I put my books in my backpack. Clearly no. Crossing fingers 🤞🏻that it’s at school. Anyways, I quickly looked for a book app and I found this. I asked my mom if I canould get it and she said yes! 😁 I did all the process to actually get into it and when I finally did, I searched up the book I needed, “Nine, Ten”. It was there! ✓ Great overallEasy to use and has lots of good features such as bookmarking, remembering where you are up to if the book is returned and then reborrowed some time later, etc. My main complaint is that recently it has refused to download an audiobook to more than one device simultaneously. ✓ Excellent App!I love books. I love the feel, smell and I love the way a well stocked library make a room feel so lived in. To be honest, at first I was anti ebooks, audiobooks, that is until I did some extensive traveling. After that trip and the good things I was hearing about audiobooks, I gave them a tryout and I haven’t looked back with any regrets. I have a Kindle Fire and my phone (iPhone) allows me to use this app and I love it! It it’s free, it’s for me. Plus I convert books from my laptop to audiobook and it’s great. This app is so wonderful. When I was much younger, I lived in the library, but as I grew older, I drifted away from the library networks. Since discovering Overdrive, I listen to at least 4 books a week and read via ebooks about 2 more. I love the ease of use and I can visit so many other libraries (7). This is a great app and I strongly recommend DL it and enjoying all it has to offer. You won’t be disappointed. Also, give Libby a try, another great app. I use both. ENJOY!.Version: 3.8.1
✓ I LOVE THIS APP! 😄I use this app when I go sleep, I listen to it as I fall asleep but the thing is who will stop the audio book that is playing? There is a simple solution there is a moon button and you can set a time for it to turn off. This app is easy to use and you get all of the books for free, you can suggest books and more. I am so happy I found this app falling asleep is sooo much easier. I would also recommend this to people who love Harry Potter because you can ALWAYS get the first book with no wait. You can place holds on any book, but some books have so many holds you have to wait around a year to get them. Overdrive also has good crime thrillers which I LOVE. ✓ What happened to Overdrive?Just in the last week 20th October 2019, my audio book loans have stopped appearing on the Overdrive app. It seems to have been disabled without any notice given. It’s a pity that just when I get used to an app and like it, it gets disabled in favour of something called Libby, which seems to be aimed at children rather than a mature adult. Overdrive developers should perhaps warn users this is going to happen rather than abruptly pulling the plug and switching us over in this manner..Version: 3.8.3

✓ Love the app, needs some tweaksFirst, I love this app. Have been using it for about 5 years to download books to my phone. For me, it works beautifully, but I have three suggestions: 1). I have several pages of Wish List books. If I'm looking for a particular book in the list, I HATE having to scroll to the bottom of each page before I can forward to the next one. Please duplicate the page number/forward icons/option at the top of each page, so users can access it immediately. 2). I appreciate knowing where I am in the checkout queue (23 of 4 copies) for example. But when I am next in line (1 of 1 copies) could you write an algorithm to let me know the date the current reader's checkout is up? Surely the program knows when they downloaded it, and whether it's a 7 or 14 day usage. So perhaps my Hold could say "you are next in line, 1 of 1 copies, available on or before September 17" (for example). I realize some people might finish the book in 2 days, and others 2 weeks, but at least this information would give me an option to download another book to read in the meantime. 3). How about adding a contact site on the Overdrive home page, so readers can email suggestions to you? Most apps have this feature. Otherwise, thanks for a great app..Version: 3.7.0

The downside (like a normal library book) is the book you want is quite often not available when you want it but you just have to stop what you’re reading elsewhere or you can postpone the library one.
